In addition to the things others have mentioned, they also added Guild Missions, Fractals, a major change to the Tequatl encounter (it’s a 80+ person outdoor raid now), Leaderboards, custom arena and spectator mode, Guesting, a progression system for WvW, culling was removed and most all of the reward systems were reworked.
Here is a vid of the some of the major changes you’ll see right away when you enter:

Love that shield – how the grin gets bigger when you unsheathe it lol.
My prediction:
If the shield comes back, the TP price will drop by half.
If the shield does not come back, the price will double overnight.
Going through some screenshots of last year’s Halloween festivities and I found these -
Leaping into the cauldron forge
Watching the decay and corruption of the Lion fountain getting worse each day
Sync dancing skeleton crew waiting for hell to unleash from the fountain
Facing off against the Mad King himself
Me and the Mad Moon
Show me some of yours
That would be a nightmare to balance.
Get it? Nightmare?
mwahahaha
I’m going to laugh when that chest people keep brining up is a RNG chest in the gem store.
Confirmed it is “something dangerous” on the Facebook comments by ArenaNet
Where did you see these armors?
They are in the game code.
http://www.gw2db.com/items?filter-item-date-added=11%2f15%2f2012
Interesting – on page 4 there are a number of new ascended chests.
I’m a god kitten necromancer kitten it, where’s my ragged evil robe and skullhelmet?
You will find it beyond the gates of Arah!

(go to the dungeon token merchants in Lion’s Arch to see dungeon armors)
They don’t have a set schedule that I’m aware of but they always put up notice of upcoming livestreams on facebook. Generally once a week for WvW and at least every 2 weeks for new PvE content.
They only answer questions related to the topic they are covering.
Not sure why people bring up Tequatl, good luck doing it on most servers today. Even on the busiest servers you will rarely see it down anymore. People have moved on sadly.
Don’t be silly. There are armies of players taking down Tequatl everyday. Day before yesterday I participated in a Tequatl kill thanks to the fine people at Tequatl Terror Squad. They were running the event in 4 overflows with more players clamoring to get in.
But it is a raid, you generally want to be part of a guild or associated with a guild to do it.
“Armies” on 4-5 servers out of the 51 servers that exist. That helps.
That’s just one guild’s efforts!
Follow this and you will see that Teq is going down regularly. (this does not include overflow information)

Don’t listen to the hyperbole, they’ve added tons of content to the game. Fractals, Guild Missions, the new Twilight Arbor dungeon, the Tequatl open world raid, jumping puzzles, mini games, new pvp maps, custom arenas, spectator modes and more.
Only stuff that doesn’t make sense for you to do now as part of the Living Story was “removed”. For instance, a couple months back there was an election held ingame for the next council member which also ties in to future content releases. The vote was held, the councilmember decided, it would not make sense for you to participate in a past election.
Many things rotate in and out, like the Super Adventure Box (we just had the 2nd release of it), Labyrinthe Cliffs zone will be coming back and a couple post-launch dungeons that were part of Living Story will be coming back as Fractals later this year.

I think it is pretty alt friendly.
Earning dungeon tokens on one character and being able to spend them with another feels extremely alt friendly to me. In fact, I don’t know of any other MMO where I can do this.
I can also transfer a legendary weapon to another character by way of a transmutation splitter. Don’t know of any other games that let me do that.
I don’t agree that having one fully geared 80 should equal having 5 fully geared 80s or 10 fully geared 80s or 100 fully geared 80s. That seems kind of silly.
But I recently leveled an alt and was able to gear her out very quickly by using dungeon tokens, karma, guild commendations, laurels, honor badges and fractal relics and rings earned with my main.

Read this Marcus:
Seems to me the devs have a very clear handle on what feedback is valuable which is all that really matters for a games forum
Bloody Prince Thorn
Magic find only affects drops from monsters. Does not affect the mystic forge, chests, bags or nodes.
Your server WvW bonuses do affect mining and harvesting nodes in addition to extra gold from monsters. Mouse over the castle icon to see the percent (higher towards end of match as more points are earned).
Hidden Garden, one of my favorite jumping puzzles in the game
There are 4 different Keeper events in Mount Maelstrom, completing any one of them opens a portal into the Hidden Garden. Good idea to bring a friend here as there are no waypoints inside and there are many places that if you fall it’s certain death.
There are 4 paths inside, you get an item from the end of each path and use all 4 to open a chest in the center. I’d rate the puzzle as medium difficulty.
Someone at Anet watches History Channel’s Vikings lol
Love that show! These hairstyles are perfect for it.
Now if I can only get them to watch Game of Thrones……
I just ignore the shrieking harpies. GW2 could give them every little thing their heart desires, design the game down to the last pixel just for them and they would still howl.
There is no pleasing or reasoning with them.
I blame the Mesmers. You knew it was only a matter of time.
Here’s an Imgur album for those that can’t access Facebook right now.
that norn hair O_o
AND THE CHARR HIPSTERS
LOOOL
Charr hipsters look fabulous.

Can I gush? I don’t care, I’m going to gush.
That blonde norn fellow with the Braham hairstyle with the braid and the bedroom eyes and that little smile with the DIMPLE! (I am such a sucker for dimples!)
You can go back to what you were doing now.
I don’t belong to a guild of 100+ that is capable of pulling this off. I guess I get to miss out on content.
Awesome design there.
Join a cross-server guild like Tequatl Terror Squad. You can join up to 5 guilds

Grats!
Got my title last week, it was so freakin intense, we had 130 people on Raidcall yelling and screaming. Highlight of my gaming year
I spent about 1/2 what I would have paid for a sub game. Cool thing is I can do it when it fits into my budget rather than having to pay just to log in.
And when I consider things like character services I’ve paid significantly less, I’ve used ingame gold to get things like character recustomization and name changes.
Happy camper here, will never pay a sub fee again
I main an elementalist, it was the most challenging for me to learn but once I got the hang of it, it is the most complex, situational, diverse and fun professions to play.
In gw2 you stay in place and watch the auto attack animation while drinking coffe.
SOOO ACTIVE.
Go into a dungeon with that kind of playstyle and you will be destroyed.
1) Yes
2) What are you waiting for?
The game is quite different from old school MMOs since there are no quest hubs. You’ll find people gather for meta events then scatter to whatever they do in the meantime whether it’s dungeons or gathering or WvW or hanging out in Lion’s Arch.
I’ve been in queue to get into a borderlands map for wvw for over 1.5 hours so far this evening, I went to a couple temple events in Orr while I waited.
No one mentioned the wallet?
The account wallet is brilliant, not only for freeing up bank space but for the ability to share currencies between characters. None of that having to log onto another character to mail gold to the first one, relogging to the first character and then finding a mailbox. Dungeon tokens earned on any character are pooled and can be used on any other character. Love this feature.
And while I’m mentioning currency, I also love that I have the option of using ingame gold for account services like name changes, server transfers, gender change, character recustomization, in addition to any item I want on the gem store.
There’s actually more people playing now than at launch. Sorry your guild failed.
I use to raid hardcore in another MMO and I thought I would miss it at first but I don’t, not even in the slightest.
I mean I understand why a developer might want to employ raids, they really are cheap content – just make one instance and have your playerbase run it for 6 months to a year by slowly trickling out gear on gear dependent fights.
And let’s face it, the market for raiding is really tiny – even a game like WoW where raids are the end all be all, less than 5% of their playerbase even does them.
Tequatl gets big thumbs up from me though, I really enjoy the epic battle without all the associated grind of raiding

Do you find that if anything is suggested, if it resembles anything from another game you automatically shoot the idea down? Don’t want your gaming influenced by Mainstream? Were you attracted to GW by some of the unique features that were displayed in early manifestos?
I had already quit my last MMO and was scouting around for a new game when I stumbled upon GW2. Played in the 2nd beta weekend and fell absolutely in love with the combat system and the beauty of the game.
Still love the combat and the beauty and really impressed with what they’ve done so far in one short year. Don’t know if I like it because it’s so different (hipster) or if it’s just the right game for me.

Never saw the attraction. Even in the video when the guy asks the girl what they are for she says, “It’s where you have a cup of tea and scone with your friends.”
What?
Loved Halloween last year, looking forward to it again this year.
One of my favorite things was the scavenger hunt for the Mad Memories backpiece. I took so many players through the Lion’s Arch sewers, they’d be all like bwuh? I had no idea this was here right under my feet!
Last year’s trailer to get you in the mood

I need to go find just the music and put it on repeat for the rest of the day…

A new player asked me where to find the bank yesterday so I showed him. He told me he just got the game a couple days ago so I asked him how he liked it so far. He said, “This game is funnnnnnnnn!”
I know that’s what keeps me logging in – it is hands down the most fun MMO I’ve ever played
I’ve been giving the LFG a workout over the last few days and so far so good.
My favorite unexpected use for it is World Events, I’ve both joined in and created listings for world bosses with excellent results. Even rolled a party straight into a TA run afterwards.
Parties form practically instantly, really highlights the strength of no trinity combat. Love that we have this ingame now.
