Interesting thing to note: When I ran from the tavern to the hideout, with the song still playing, I somehow got a different song to play. This time it was a string ensemble. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JE_qIcRSzA
-shrug- What are the devs up to….
That’s the Dragon Bash song
That music plays in the Main Haven Headquarters in Lion’s Arch. There’s a tavern there and it was looping into the Dragon Bash song back during the Dragon Bash event, not sure if it still does.
Future Client Side/Server Side Optimization ?

There’s a sticky at the top of this forum where Bill Freist has been keeping us up to date with their progress on optimization:
You’ll find most servers run temple events right after reset for the daily reward.
Otherwise most players are doing the latest Living Story, right now that would be the Tower in Kessex Hills or WvW Season 1.
A condi mesmer is OP against those that aren’t using a condi counter build.
I currently sit at 99% world completion, but because of a few POIs and Vistas in Eternal Battlegrounds, I cant finish. Our Server (Jade Quarry) Has been Green for at least a month, and will continue to be green till the season is over. Ive checked EB just about every time i’ve been on, and we never have any of the keeps. So what do I do? Wait till the season is over? Or buy Gems lol.
I thought JQ was one of the top 5 WvW servers in North America. You’re telling me your almighty zergs can’t flip a few keeps?
Why yes, yes they can!
http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/29/121
(last week’s matchup history includes keeps taken)
There’s actually more players now than at launch. But there’s more things to do outside of the open world (dungeons, fractals, the new Tower in Kessex Hills, instanced mini-games, etc.) and just like all MMOs the mid-level maps are quiet (unless there is an event of course).
I’m still hitting overflows every day and queues for WvW. Your server may vary.
You might find this helpful

Fyi, the Explorer achievement is not the same as World Completion. The 174/175 you are looking at is for Explorer and has nothing to do with vistas, poi’s and such. Look at this link for any missing areas you need to uncover:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Bluestone/Explorer
Hope that helps!
The queues are long because of the Seasons matchups. I’m on a T1 NA server and I haven’t seen our maps not have queues since it started.
They are adding a new map to WvW to alleviate queues. The new map will have overflow capabilities – it should start testing soon.

Same as above, still not getting credit for Dawn of the Season.
Just wanted to give a shout out about how much I appreciated the ingame scenes played out by the NPCs at the base camp near the Tower. When the Asura Senna starting having the guilt inducing hallucination, crying and saying it was all her fault and she didn’t deserve to live I nearly lost it. And Bloomanoo seeing the crab – hahahaha!
Very well done, love the voice acting and the stories
My Ellen Kiel badges are ready!
Zhaitan’s Reach drops only from Tequatl. It’s a super creepy looking scepter, a grasping undead hand. Very suitable for a Necromancer.
Most of the named exotics that aren’t made from crafting or mystic forging have a random rare chance to drop anywhere and then there are the named exotics that only drop from Champion mobs but iirc each of the world bosses has a particular one that they and only they drop.
Endgame for me has always been about completing the latest content then jumping into battlegrounds or arena until the next patch.
With the Living Story content every 2 weeks and WvW I have all the endgame I desire.
Very Happy gamer here
According to the patch notes:
The Tower of Nightmares content will be available until the tower’s heart is destroyed. Watch the progress as more antitoxin is injected!
So the Tower will survive as long as players on each server allow it. This means that the Tower could be destroyed on some servers but still up on others. Truly dynamic content, this
so pretty much………keep it alive or they take away our only real interesting content update? yea ok thats great, not. to me thats disrespectful, i’d let the heart die on every server if i could just to send them a message like “dont taunt us”.
They will not be “taking it away” – this one is totally on the players. Our actions will destroy the Tower zone.
Think about that for a minute. Players. Destroying. Zones. In an MMO.
Good points! A zone it is.
So following this train of thought, WE, the players, will be destroying a zone with our actions. Some servers will destroy the zone faster than others.
/mindboggled
You need to unequip them first
So running the Tower got me thinking about this – at first glance it seems like a dungeon or instance: It has walls, a portal entrance and a limited amount of players (we know that since it spawns overflow servers). I have no idea how many players it can hold since it is so huge and there are so many levels inside, if I had to guess it would be at least 100 maybe up to 150. You don’t need to be partied to enter. That would make it more like a zone.
Within the Tower are other instances, the 9 Nightmare Chambers and the Nightmare Incarnate instance which can hold anywhere from 1-5 players. You need to be partied to enter as a group and you must complete events in the Tower to unlock the portals which follows a pattern with many open world dungeons.
So if limiting the number of players to 5 or less and requires a party classifies as a dungeon, then how do we account for mini-dungeons in the open world? Some of those have no portal entrances, some of them do, an unlimited amount of players can enter, they don’t need to be partied. Are they dungeons?
But back to the Tower. Tell me dear ArenaNet before I break my brain over this puzzle, did you add a zone or an instance?
Whatever. Let them pull this post if they want but, I’m talking about WoW and I don’t remember encountering any problems/bugs the last few patches. The only annoyance was updating my addons.
Whereas here, people are saying they are encountering persistent bugginess from release, disconnects, skill lag, etc.
Don’t go there DarkC unless you want me to start linking their bug forums and the total mess they made with merges and players losing toons, guilds and millions of gold
I played that game for years, they still have bugs from launch.
8g will buy you 100 gems atm. There is a lot more gold in the game now that they increased rewards, but the big reason you see the conversion rate increasing is they added some really nice, very desired pieces to the gem store and lots of players converted gold to gems to buy them.
335MB
Your launcher probably was calculating off the largest files since the game downloads those first then moves to the smaller files.

Gaile, has anyone told you that you are awesome lately?
That was the most fun I’ve had in a while, kinda like old school Castlevania games with advancing up the towers and unlocking levels. Thanks for the great update.
Loving it so far, really amazing work guys
No, I like the 2 week content patches
They’ve done a lot to polish the game, every patch brings more QoL features, polish and bug fixes.
http://gw2patchnotesearch.david-reess.de/
Is the game perfect? Of course not, but no MMO is. So as long as the bug fixer part of the team continues to polish this game to a high gloss and we still get content every two weeks, I’m happy.
Most servers have their own private forums as well as their own Teamspeaks. I suggest going to WvW and ask for access.
I saw in the Midseason Report that we should be getting up to 3 chests each week depending on how our server performs. I have participated in WvW every day since the Season started and have yet to recieve one of these reward chests.
Also, my Dawn of the Seasons achievement has not triggered although I have completed 10 of the other achievements. Maybe related?
Still do not have Dawn of the Season even though I participate in WvW every day and have completed 10 of the other achievements.
Also not getting the weekly reward chests, don’t know if this is related.
Looks like the patch on Tuesday brought back the Unknown status on some guild members as well as the Nickname function on your friends list.
You might try looking at the Leaderboards to see the last active date of your guild members. Hover your mouse over their achievement points and it gives you the last date they earned one.

If you run out of time you have a two-week grace period before it is removed.
Your custom arena belongs to you, you can use it on any character.
The rewards system had a complete revamp recently and they are still pumping out new content every two weeks with a wide range of difficulty.

Colin Johanson commented on this recently here:
You will absolutely see a way to create a precursor available in the future. As detailed in our plans for the second half of the year here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/
As mentioned at the end of the blog, as always things are subject to change as test and prepare various systems. Most of the stuff covered in the blog you’ve already seen implemented, or steps towards being implemented, however the precursor building (and corresponding additional legendary items) is the one highest at risk to not make it this year.
It is still something we absolutely plan to do!
This is exactly how i imagined pve players think
“lets take the ram without rank2 or 3, its just for the achievement”“ow if i get the chance ill burn supply on a wall thats actively being trebbed”
And thats why a lot of WvW players have a strong dislike towards the pve achievement hunters.
Are they (/puts on sunglasses) ruining your game mode?
Thank you for the response, Regina.
Ah well, I figured the chance might be slim since Maclaine did say how challenging it was to make the prototype. I guess this charming little creation will just have to move to the realm of my imagination where it will evolve into the most magical of music boxes, becoming more fantastical as the days go by until the dragons circling the base come to life and start breathing fire made of liquid gold.
As an ex-hardcore raider from another MMO, I LOVE that I’m not held hostage by a guild for content or loot. None of that application nonsense, no backstabbing for a raid spot, forget all the politicking to beg for scraps from a loot council – I am DONE with that business! Never again!!
I have 3 guilds now – my WvW guild, my guild missions guild and my Tequatl slaying guild and love them all \o/
If you purchase a skin like the Toxic Mantle skin, you can apply it to one piece of armor. You can then use Transmutation Stones or Crystals to transfer that look to other pieces of armor as you level or change your stats.
Costumes are account bound. They are town clothes only which just means you cannot wear them while you are in combat. If you are wearing them in the open world and a mob hits you, the game will automatically equip your combat/stat gear.
Since Costumes are account bound even after you equip them, you can put them in your bank for your other characters to use. When you equip them you can toggle the town clothes look on and off on your Hero panel but they can only be used on one character at a time.
I think the only negative about living story is the limited time to complete achievements. Achievement hunting can be a great long term goal for those not interested in legendaries, but limiting the window to 2-4 weeks to get these achievements can feel very pressured, which is something that can distress an achievement hunter.
Other than that I really enjoy the Living Story aspect of GW2. I like how it offers a variety of content, a variety of difficulty levels and continually changes the game. Keep up the good work!
After seeing this I went back and watched Britney’s Toxic video and was astonished to see Scarlet make an appearance! It’s true! There’s only one explanation – when the reactor blew the world’s fabric turned inside out and Scarlet has used her understanding of the Eternal Alchemy to bend the fabric of the space/time continuum and is now sporting around in pop music videos of the past!
A few months back a player discovered that if the sound effects of a mesmer’s portal was reversed that the Guild Wars 2 theme was hidden in it.
And then Maclaine Deimer made a video showing the source of the sound – it came from a prototype music box.
I’m wondering if there is any chance this prototype will ever see production? I have a niece that I would love to gift such a music box to.
I’m not saying it’s a good idea, mind you. Just a random thought.
Nods, it’s something we’ve talked about internally.
A lot of times, we’ll preface ideas with, “I’m not saying this is a great idea, or something we’d do, but I’ll throw it out to see if it sparks a brainstorm for anyone else…<insert idea>.”
These types of ideas (and this whole thread) are still amazing for generating ideas. Even if an idea might have a lot of problems with it, still toss it out! Maybe it’ll lead us to the eventual answer!
I appreciate the open invitation to exploring ideas – I’ll throw out some of my wacky ones to see if anyone can brainstorm off them…
1. Make the T8 servers an ongoing live open test server for any changes to WvW. This might encourage players to transfer there to get an early peek at possible changes to WvW and since those bottom tier fights are pretty much out of the race and usually a blowout anyway it shouldn’t be that impactful…?
The rest of my ideas are based on my assumption that any changes made based on map population would only encourage ‘gaming’ or manipulating the system. “We have too many on X map – commanders, pull your teams off”. A better way might be to look at score differential. When a server’s score falls beneath certain thresholds (ex: 10% less than the reigning server, 25%, 50%), then underscore mechanics or scoring could kick in.
2. An obvious idea is that underscore servers earn more points per tick on their objectives or overscore servers earn less. But this still doesn’t really solve how to comeback after a night of unbalance, it just delays the inevitable.
3. Overnight balance could be addressed by underscore server’s objectives becoming increasingly more difficult to take at certain score differentials. It could require a new type of very supply expensive siege to break through their walls. This new siege could have some kind of time gate on it and take hours to build, thereby smoothing out any overnight population differences.
4. Underscore servers could get new tools at certain score differentials – ladders to climb walls or jump pads to vault over them (trebucheting asura over walls haha).
5. The trickiest knot to untangle is how to encourage underscore teams to work together. I really think this is the key to blowout matches in WvW, that 2 “beaten” servers can come together and take down the big guy. The tricky part is how to implement this type of coordination while still maintaining the rivalry and competition between those servers (in addition to how scores would be handled). Some random ideas:
a) a temporary truce mechanic where the underscores could become neutral to each other
b) a form of siege or wall that would require components from both of the underscore teams to create
c) some kind of communication device that would allow underscore teams to coordinate…?
No idea how score could be allocated between the underscores when they were truced, maybe split the score until the truce expires then the team with the most players on the objective owns it?
Keep up the great discussions everyone, you are doing good stuff here.
I don’t think the trinity is the root of the problem. I believe that people could care less about the trinity in and of itself, but people DO want to feel like they’re doing something to contribute to the party in a unique way; Something to make someone feel desirable, as it were.
It is my opinion that the reason people get bored with combat in this game is because there are no adequate replacements for the trinity. The whole “DPS, Control, Support” triad we have currently going on is fundamentally flawed, and it basically just boils down to DPS. Additionally, combo fields were meant to make combat more engaging, but the whole combo system is a bit of a bore. I hardly pay attention to fields that are not water or fire, and anything but a blast finisher is basically pointless, or has so little effect that it’s not worth the effort to really do.
Common misconception. That’s what dps is in other trinity-based games. Tank stands in front and takes damage, healer stands behind and heals damage, dps just stands there and does their dps rotation.
Here you have damage mitigation and healing abilities as well as straight dps. The interactive nature of the combat makes it significantly more interesting, I can combo my own fields or any other players. Of course this becomes more evident as you move into the more difficult content, most open world content and a few lower level dungeons don’t require that level of coordination.
Never going back to boring trinity games.
You missed some Living Story – like the vote for the new captains councilmember. You can’t do it now since the players already voted and that content is completed now so it would make no sense for you to do it at this point.
Check the release splash page link I gave you, there’s a lot of transitional living story type stuff that you can’t do now including some stuff that will return periodically but they’ve added a lot also. Jump on in, the water is fine
Antiquated system best left in old school MMOs.

I just bought $20 worth of gems so I can get another character slot and the new toxic armors, imma make the most ba sylvari you ever saw – woot!
I’ve been meaning to throw some gems their way since the Tequatl update, this gave me an excuse
Gear is indeed part of the new content, strictly speaking.
It is one of the reasons why it has risen, the others being the ones I stated above.
Nevertheless, thanks for your thoughts.
Cheers
Content is something you play through. Armor skins, specifically statless armor skins are merely window dressing.
Gear =/= Content
The gold to gem conversion has risen simply due to the fact that there is much more gold in the economy now. They completely revamped rewards and it’s much easier to make gold now.
