Must be Tuesday.
Something you can do to test out how a max level/geared class plays without leveling is take a new character to the Heart of the Mists (crossed sword icon). There you are boosted to 80 with free access to all the stats, skills, weapons, runes, sigils, etc. You can play around with different builds against the target golems, target professions, there’s even a boss there.
Race plays almost no role in class selection. The racial elite is weak compared to the class elites. Here’s a good summary of the strengths/weaknesses of each class:

Check the Leaderboards, you can sort by guild and mousing over the achievement number will show the last date they earned an achievement.
Most everyone communicates in Mumble, Vent or Teamspeak these days. Too hard to type while playing.
Happy Birthday and supergratz!
1) The combat – it has a very visceral feel, doesn’t feel like I’m playing a spreadsheet. The sheer quality and quantity of animations adds to the experience.
2) The art style – most gorgeous MMO I’ve ever played.
3) The open world – love the head out in any direction, do anything you want exploration aspect. Not linear.
4) The community – hands down the best community I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with.
5) I can play PvP immediately with the highest rated builds and gear on any class I want to, there’s no ilvl requirements for dungeons or any other content. No weekly lockouts. The game respects both my skill and my time.
Welcome to the party
Let me add my thanks to the others – Thank you ArenaNet for giving us such a great game. Over 2000+ hours and this is the BEST, most quality MMO I’ve ever played.
I appreciate your hard work, enthusiasm and open discussion with the community. Thank you for a great 2013 and hoping you have continued success with 2014
I’ve seen mobs that rez and heal each other and I’ve lost count how many do interrupts.
yes doesn’t that mean there are 465,000 people online playing gw2 at the same time?
That is correct. But as you know, not everyone logs in at the same time – some players log in on weekends, some log in the morning, some in the evening, etc.
So you can take the 465k and multiply it by average concurrency to total active players ratios to get an idea of how many players in GW2.
He did say at the same time. So he is not correct (well maybe I don’t know the true numbers only Anet knows). But yes, you can deffintly say that there’s 300k active players and then another on-and-off 160k players.
Nope. Different time zones, the world is round. You take concurrency and multiply it by ratios to get a true idea of how many active players a game has.
Okey.
Lets say in europe in the evening there’s 150k active players.
In America there’s 150k active players in the evening.
And then an average of 70k+ in europe or America every now and then.
But jesus let’s not get so complicated. No, the concurrency would be more like in the evening in EU in a 5 minute window there are 465k players logged in at the same time. Then you add all the other time zones to that.
Well I ment from the begining that the total amount of active players worldwide is 300k and that the total amount of on-and-off players worldwide is 150k+ something.
Im not saying that europe alone has 465k players.
But it’s much much more than 300k if the concurrency alone is 465k due to time zones and people that play on different days of the week. Probably in the realm of 2.5 to 3 million would be my guess.

do you think the average pop now is a lot less than 465,000 or around that. Do you think that this game is dying?
That 465,000 number is concurrency – the most players logged in at the same time.
To give you an idea, WoW published a concurrency of 1 million players at MoP launch and Age of Wushu with 20 million players recently hit 1.8 million concurrency.

Any feature that is only available to a small hand full of the community is a waste of resources.
Luckily this description does not apply here.
There is a rather large difference between, “only available to a small hand full of the community,” and, “available to anyone willing to put in the effort required to participate.”
You mean by joining some guild created to bypass the terrible mechanics of the event? So for the whole community to be able to do the event, you want there to be 500 of these fake guilds rolling around? No thank you!
What an incredibly rude thing to say!
The Tequatl Terror Squad guild was formed by people that wanted to slay the dragon, that have worked their butts off to organize these kills every day along with thousands of other players that want to slay the dragon.
This is Tequatl the Sunless, not Shadow Behemoth. You can’t just randomly show up hoping another 80+ people just randomly show up with voice comms and commanders and you all randomly pull an organized raid out of it.
Tequatl Terror Squad still killing Tequatl 3x a day every day. Up to 11 guilds now.
It’s easier to do with an organized guild group, try joining a guild that does this kill
Poor Dark Catalyst, desperately trying to save WoW on the GW2 forums.

Guilds are the only way you can earn guild commendations, a game currency used to purchase desirable items including ascended accessories and guild-only weapons and banners. Guilds can also provide you with many buffs such as karma or gathering.
The Leaderboard shows the last date someone in your guild or on your friends list earned an achievement point. Of course it won’t show if they just logged in to dance in Lion’s Arch or w/e
I am saving all my skillpointzorzs just in case they ever decide to make this a Super Elite Skill. It can have a cooldown of one week, idc
You can put items into your bank so that your other characters can withdraw them.
Question to people with 500+ gold:
Wtf are you doing to get that much gold? Champ farming?
Heck no, I think Champs is one of the worst way to make gold.
Made most of mine running fractals. I play mostly WvW, dungeons and fractals and recently some sPvP. I also do all the Living Story content.

400g currently and maybe another 500g in mats and unconverted currencies like skill points, guild commendations and laurels. Would have more but I like to spoil my alts and of course the legendary I made earlier this year. What else am I going to do with it?
Here’s another good site for viewing weapons:

I’m playing WvW, jumping into PvP, leveling alts, crafting up ascended, and playing some Wintersday games when I have time.
’Tis a busy season!

Still cannot find any info on this – very much looking forward to when it will be available!
Immensus, it seems you took a wrong turn on the internets somewhere. This is the GW2 forums, not the Wildstar forums.
I predict the Year of the Dragon.
You continue to earn skill points after you’ve unlocked all the skill point challenges on the map. In fact, you will have hundreds more than you need and they become a type of currency that you can use to create legendary and other named exotic weapons, ascended armors or use them to upgrade crafting materials – in effect you can sell your experience (time) to other players with those skill points or use them yourself to create unique items.
Here’s a great video that shows what changes you’ll see right away (applies to everyone)

I main an elementalist, I died a lot at first but it’s a pure joy to play once you understand it
An unlock system for permanent, reusable runes and sigils.
If you have your costume with toy weapon equipped, you can enter costume brawl mode by activating any of your weapon skills. The last weapon skill lets you leave costume brawl mode (your character will cower with bird animations to indicate leaving that mode). Also, if you have been KO’d, you need to re-enter costume brawl mode by hitting a weapon skill.
Commander tags in WvW:
- Right now anyone can purchase a Commander tag for 100g and that’s fine, but an idea to consider for commander tags could be different colors to differentiate progression in WvW. Ideally it would be tied to WvW accomplishments and could also include input from other players on their server (other players could dedicate a small percentage of their Wxp to a particular commander for instance). Tags would start at the default purchasable blue, then progress through raritys: green>yellow>orange>pink>legendary. Each level of progression could give more functionality (larger group formation? map movement?) as well as visibility.
- Transferring to a different server would reset the tag to the default blue.
New Skills:
- As much as I like the idea of adding new skills as horizontal progression, I think care needs to be taken so the game doesn’t suffer from ability bloat, entry barriers to new players and of course balancing issues that arise with the addition of each ability.
Cosmetics:
- In addition to the other ideas that have been floated here I would like to propose that additional customization options like new hairstyles and face options could be unlocked through achievements rather than gem store purchases
Thank you for these topics, Chris. Don’t work too hard over your holiday!
You can access EoTM at any time.
Q: Is the Edge of the Mists only open when all maps are full?
A: No, it’s always available from the list I maps it simply is the only WvW map that can overflow.

Per Colin Johanson, we will get a look at what’s planned for 2014 in January.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Collaborative-Development/page/8
Time scale wise, any project we work on at minimum takes 3-4 months from starting production to getting live (and that’s the fast stuff) to include development, testing, design, art, recording the VO, getting it localized, getting the build setup, and the build distributed. This means often times the things we’re working on aren’t constantly changing, so we don’t have huge updates to give all the time, but I do think we can more frequently update the “state of the game” over all to better reflect the minimum development time-frame and that’s totally valid feedback.
I’ll try doing the once every 6 month Gw2 status updates every 3 months starting in 2014 (the next one will be in January) and see how that works going forward. If every 3 months is still not frequent enough we can all discuss that as a community at that time, though I’m not sure a big blog post saying we’re still working on the same stuff each month would be very useful or well received
Guild Wars 2 is like the Harlem Shake of video games. It’s like one minute you’re just hanging out at some dynamic event all by your lonesomes, maybe busting a few moves doing your own thing and then suddenly you’re surrounded by an ocean of players and you’re all like WHOA I don’t know where all these people came from but it’s time to parTAY!
Fun Surprising Alive

We’ll see.. I don’t see why we can’t just have Devs talk to us outside of some central thread. Guess we aren’t a very nice bunch, or we don’t ask the correct questions they are allowed to answer.
I’m sure it’s more for ease of communication than anything. Much easier to keep track of conversations in one thread rather than bouncing around 50 different threads and trying to remember if you followed up with one or not.
That’s why it’s always better to give feedback in the bigger threads rather than making a bunch of little threads so your feedback is sure to be seen in a whole picture kind of way and doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
You might want to check this thread, it looks like they are collecting any clipping or character art issues there to fix when they can.

Get yourself an instrument and use their monotone spam as a backbeat for your musical creation!
You can indeed do a gift purchase for someone else for a smaller amount, then you get the option for any amount for the 40% discount for yourself.
Applies to the next purchase of the same item only.
Casting my vote for NO MOUNTS!
It just doesn’t fit the design of this game.
It’s a bug all new Wintersday minis get affected by combat. Someone’s dog died
Yes, tragic tale. Burned to death at the fire shaman.
Polymock is coming.

Since all the Leaderboards only show the top 1000, I don’t see why you would expect anything else.
This is a dumb idea and when it dies it will leave a dumb corpse.
I don’t think there’s a huge demand for it tbh. I remember the Queen’s Pavilion, how there was an ocean of players down below and only a tiny handful of players doing the gauntlet and Lliadri events above.
