They’ve been talking about the next phase of making sPvP more rewarding, of which one of the things on the agenda is being able to use your PvP skins in PvE
No date on it yet, but they’ve been pretty aggressive at getting the new reward program rolled out.
They should be in your mailbox (the envelope icon upper left on your screen).
It’s like playing in a painting. every. day. Daniel Dociu is a master.
I imagine it will be replaced with the CDI subforum.
Thank you for the write up and video Psynch. I really enjoy your videos and theorycrafting of the lore, you’re a great storyteller
I think the people complaining about this really haven’t grasped the concept of this game yet. Look at it this way, if they left all the content permanent it would be the most confusing clusterbomb of a game ever created.
Just imagine, we would have a world where we are simultaneously building road signs for the refugees Wayfarer Hills while the refugees have already arrived and are camping in Lion’s Arch AND have already moved on to Southsun Cove where they are being exploited by the Consortium all the while Queen’s Pavilion balloons are taking players to the Jubilee while Molten Portals spawn everywhere and we have just started to open/build Southsun but the Ancient Karka has already been defeated but karka are still invading Lion’s Arch. Or how about Evon Gnashblade politicking for votes at the same time he’s bemoaning his loss while election banners are hanging everywhere and Ellen is already in the Council? Or how about Kessex Hills with the Tower of Nightmares both up yet blown up at the same time?
Those concepts work well within a linear game where you are working your way through the story via quests and such, but it simply doesn’t make sense here.
I do think the 2 week tempo feels a bit pressured and I’m happy they’ve moved towards letting the content overlap in one month chunks, but I simply don’t see how everything could be left in game within the freeform/nonlinear/multiple layers of content in zones way this game is designed.
Phasing.
Phasing was a failed experiment in other games. Couldn’t play with friends since they were on a different phase!
Um…Phasing was a huge success in WoW, dunno of any other game that used it though.
Actually it failed in WoW so badly they abandoned the concept.

Don’t worry they’ll nerf this method like they nerfed crafting to 80. Give it 2 patches.
They’ve already stated that the glory reward vendor will be removed in the future, that this promotion is a limited time offer. New rewards are incoming however – keep your eyes on the PvP forums
I’ve been waiting for this mask ever since I saw it in the PvP locker. 500 gems seems fair to me.
I see nothing wrong with it either, in fact I think they should have introduced it sooner.
Players with hundreds or thousands of hours in PvP should be recognized for their skill and time investment and furthermore, they should be able to wear the skins they’ve earned in PvP everywhere.
Sometime this month we should see it.

Not quite what you are looking for but you can use the Achievements leaderboard to see the last date someone in your guild earned an achievement point.
https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/achievements
Log in, select the guild you want to check and mouse over the achievement number. Of course this will not show anyone that’s just logging in to dance in Lion’s Arch or w/e but since points come so easily it’s a good indication of your guild member’s last date of activity
GW2Hub published an interview with Chris Whiteside today with the CDI as the main topic of discussion. Chris stated that they are looking at other ways to organize the CDI for ease of navigation and accessibility, I’m sure he will appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

There’s an ingame option to report LFG abuse. Do that and block the player.
There are multiple zones by level bracket, you are not restricted to your starting area. Because of downscaling you still get good xp and rewards but it is a bit easier.

Use xp food – Cinnamon Apples are good for low levels.

Elementalist is one of the most difficult to learn classes in the game. Watch some vids of elementalist play to get an idea how to use your combos and attunements effectively.
Everything gives you xp – gathering, rezzing, crafting, exploring cities and maps.
I’ve never had a precursor drop for me but I have received 7 precursors from the Mystic Forge from throwing in rares.
I have seen a number of precursors drop for friends and guildies from open world, WvW and dungeons but it seems a pretty rare occurrence.
I’ve already got badges out the wazoo but I’m really enjoying the new glory rewards in sPvP

On the side note some of the most satisfying times I’ve had in GW2 was while map exploring by myself or with a friend, climbing mountains in the middle of nowhere. Taking a second while standing on top of the cliff looking around at the beautiful area surrounding me, with animals roaming around in wilderness. Underflows would destroy that feeling making it look like another Queensdale. But then again, that’s an adventurer in me speaking.
I agree with this – we really don’t need massive amounts of players on every map, it’s nice to strike off into the wilderness and get away from the madding crowds from time to time
Pandas are coming over to gw2
After what happened to that game that shall not be named, I doubt if any MMO will ever release pandas again. Like ever

Would be awesome if I could take my legendary into PvP!

Tequatl Terror Squad attempts to do Teq kills on regular servers but with 5500 members it’s difficult not to trigger overflows
Recruitment is currently closed but they do take requests to come to your server:

Cool
Oh, almost forgot – there’s also a glory promotion going on atm. You can use your glory to purchase any of the dungeon sets or Cultural armors from special vendor in the Heart of the Mists.
You can purchase skins from the gem store and you can also create skins in the PvP Mystic Forge with the materials you get from salvaging the PvP items you don’t want.

(you have to dig around a bit to find the recipes for the skins you want)
2014 is going to be an amazing year for GW2 and the community!
Chris
Looking forward to it
Looks like they’ll be dragon out the secret for awhile yet.
I see what you did there!
The financial model affects the game design. Games with cash shops have to have some sort of mechanics for things to sell in the those cash shops. Games with the VIP model have to have ways of distinguishing between those folks playing for free and the VIPs that are either paying a subscription fee or have purchased something else.
Here we go.. the famous “just because you think so doesn’t mean everyone else does” argument. Over-used and does not apply here.
The financial cost of a game does not determine if it is FUN.
I didn’t say anything about cost. I said the financial model affects the game design. Fun gameplay is only one aspect of what makes a game good. What makes a game good is subjective, so of course the argument that your opinion doesn’t apply to everyone is relevant.
You said you didn’t understand why some folks focused on the lack of a subscription as a desirable feature, so I tried to help with that. I can’t ignore a clunky UI even if the game mechanics are cool, but I can understand how someone else could.
Subscription fees drive game design in a myriad of insidious ways, most notably weekly lockouts. Weekly lockouts for a chance at a boss with a teensy tiny drop chance on the most desirable items.
Terrible feeling to buy a game then you can’t play it as often as you like.

That’s a staff.
I was underwhelmed at first when I saw screenshots.
Then I saw the animations.
It’s legit.
Can’t wait to see the spell animations. My Norn guardian has been saving up base legendary components in readiness.
On the other hand, it looks like ANOTHER greatsword.
I agree that the graphics setting in that pic don’t do it justice, but it’s a STAFF!
They have said that new legendaries are coming and we can see one of them on the PTR for the Edge of the Mists map:
Dodge.
I went back to WoW for a few days when they were offering free play time and the one thing i missed more then anything was dodging, that and moving while casting.
Also the graphics in GW2 are superior to any other mmo.
Every class can cast something while moving. I don’t know why some of the people here insist on being dishonest when describing other games.
umm im not being dishonest, unless they have changed every single caster in WoW to cast while moving in the last few months what i said is 100% true.
WoW is incredibly outdated these days in every aspect, they are desperately playing catch up, look at there new expansion, they have copied paste things from more modern mmos.
Yes, you are. While you can’t cast everything while moving, you can cast some things and you certainly aren’t rooted in one place for a duration of the fight.
It’s more like evolving rather than desperately playing catch up, while GW2 devolved by introducing an obvious, flat out gigantic grind with the introduction of ascended gear.
Warlock 2.5 sec rooted Shadow Bolt fillers and 3 sec rooted Chaos Bolts ftl.
I went back and watched our Heroic kill of Deathwing and it was just awful, sitting there, rocking back and forth casting shadowbolt fillers. Ugh, never again.
Cataclysm ended over a year ago. You obviously don’t even play any more, like most of the others here, and therefore have no idea what you’re talking about.
I will say this, however. Roleplaying a zergling and spamming 1 doesn’t sound like much fun.
Just looked it up on WoWhead, buddy. Nothing has changed, those spells root you like a turret making for the most BORING combat mechanics ever created.
The spec that casts chaos bolt, doesn’t have access to shadow bolt. And each spec has the ability to cast their main spell while moving, if they so choose. Stop being dishonest.
What makes the combat here so great? Dodge? I tried this game and found it to be awful. What strategy is there? What optimization? You just run up and spam your tiny number of buttons because it doesn’t matter. And dodge once in a while, randomly, because you can’t see past the particle spam.
Solo PvE isn’t a challenge, in dungeons you pull to a wall and stack, and in WvW/world champ farming, you roleplay a zergling and spam 1.
Because plugging in macros and boss mods make a game challenging?
WoW is such a borefest spreadsheet game, it got completely ridiculous when we could predict down to the hour when we would take a boss down because a tank got a shield drop or a healer got a trinket. It’s no wonder they lost 3 million subs since GW2 launched.

Three. An elementalist, a guardian and a mesmer.
Plus a bunch of name holder toons that I haven’t leveled yet. Love playing my elementalist too much
Happy New Year from US !
Much respect to ArenaNet for getting the servers up so quickly. I heard League of Legends was down for 10 hours by these idiots.
Thanks for working on the holidays for us <3
You’d be BIS in WoW for a couple months only, after a horrendous grind and begging your friends and guildies to run last tier’s raid to grab those last few essences, at which point they release a new patch and you throw your legendary on the scrap heap with all the other useless tinkertoys of obsolete stat sticks that you can’t even use as a transmog.
Here my legendary is truly Legendary, BIS forever. GW2 respects my time investment, something I never got from WoW.
This is how I picture this scenario went down.
ArenaNet Commandos to the rescue! \o/
DDOSers contained, restrained and detained . It’s going to be a long time before they “brb”.
They are keeping a pretty tight lid on it but I imagine we’ll hear something when Colin previews 2014 for us in January.
Edge of the Mists is opening early in the year. It’s in beta testing now.
