One thing you can do that will give you a feel for any profession at max level is take a brand new character into the Heart of the Mists (crossed sword icon) where you will be boosted to 80 with access to all traits/skills/stats/weapons and jump in a hot join pvp match or practice against a golem.
Some of the most fun PvP I’ve experienced in the game is in the Obsidian Sanctum.
It’s a great game, despite its growing list of flaws.
It’s the game everyone is playing – new MMOs are taking their design ques from GW2 because players won’t settle for less anymore
The figures on games like WoW and other popular MMOs would beg to differ. They’re lower than they used to be, yeah, but they’re still the dominant force in the market and GW2 is still small by comparison. And judging from GW2’s sales figures, it’s not all that likely that all those people who left WoW came over to GW2, so it’s not like people are shifting over to this game.
And I suspect there’ll be another mass exodus from GW2 once TESO comes out, as it’s a very similar sort of game. So I maintain that it’s much too soon to be declaring GW2 as some sort of massive “revolution” in gaming: it still hasn’t proven that it’s had any sort of massive impact on the market.
Would be interesting to compare numbers by region
As far as TESO, no doubt there are many people from all kinds of gaming communities that will try it, but I do think WoW has the most to fear.
My favorite trident is Malachidean (picture attached). It’s an Exotic and has a really cool Orca/Killer Whale design with a purple glow effect. I get asked about it all the time when using it – I guess most folks don’t know about it. It’s not expensive on the TP (3G).
Nice! Is that glow effect on the trident or from one of your abilities?

No idea what the Op is talking about. My server is full of people all zones all hours.
With that said, as much as I love new people TC is pretty full, so if you do pick a new server try the other ones suggested, unless you are into RPing then by all means get over here!
The OP is talking like that because he’s not on TC. I did two server transfers to get to TC and life was great till the heavy guesting. This is why it’s not only the unofficial RP server, but also the unofficial leveling/farming/everything but WvW server.
Someone forgot to inform Sanctum of Rall residents of this unofficial leveling/farming/everything but WvW server because it’s packed!
You may be used to oldschool MMOs where players congregate at quest hubs. The dynamic nature of GW2 makes it a very different experience.
You can be out in the world and it looks completely empty.

A few minutes later an event kicks off and all kitten breaks loose.

1) Watch map chat for players calling out events and linking waypoints.
2) Contribute to the conversation.
3) Join in the fun!
Try exiting the game (to your desktop) and logging in again.
If that fails, try clearing your internet cache.
Kegbrawl World Champion
It’s actually pretty brilliant to have the transfer fee based on the target world population.
ANet stated that Legendary weapons will always be top tier gear, so if they release Ascended Weapons (I hope that never happens) then they’ll bump up Legendary Weapon stats to match them.
I love that my legendary (when I get it) will always be scaled up to the top tier gear <3
Not like some other games where it get replaced the very next patch – ew.
Let’s do some simple math.
3 million players, 51 servers, boss that drops fat loot in zone that holds less than 500 people…..
Guesting is not the issue here.
Got my Veteran monthly kill the first night in one fractal.
Jumping puzzles for life.
I have almost 3 bank tabs full of gear.
I need a closet.
You need to use boon removers to get the fire shield off.
It’s not just TC, it’s everywhere. On Sanctum of Rall it looks like launch all over again.
I’m sure the recent sale has something to do with it.
Was your guild buff active? Did you eat ice cream food for the karma buff?
It reset yesterday at the daily reset.
Here is a table of armors by stats.

He plays a lot, and leans toward the PvE aspects of a game more than the PvP usually. He is a hardcore raider in WoW, so do you guys see anything about raiding in WoW that translates somewhat of the same mechanics to GW that he would like?
I use to raid hardcore in WoW and here is what I discovered.
For difficulty there is:
- High level fractals
- Guild Missions
- Arah
For large scale coordinated content:
- Guild Missions (very much like raiding – on a much grander, more epic scale)
For “progressing” your character there is:
- Ascended gear
- Legendary weapons
But GW2 is not a game that you play with spreadsheets. There is no World of Logs to pore over, no macros to tweak. As far as titles, there’s only a few in the game so far but Dungeon Master is extremely kitten worthy.
Personally I think the guesting aspect could be solved by setting it up so events happen on all servers at the same time. Like the festival finale’s in GW1.
That would quite remove the dynamic nature of events. The pre-events are completed (or failed to complete) at differing timeframes.
People need to scout out the other world bosses to spread the server load
Best MMO I’ve ever played
<——level 80 since September 2012
Fractals of the Mists (difficulty scales to infinity)
Guild Missions
Ascended gear
Legendaries
New content each month.
I’m finding a much better chance of not ending up on overflow by doing the lesser known world bosses. Dragons on a timer will most likely throw you into overflow.
Try the other bosses.
If you could buy one directly from the gem store I would see a problem.
As it is, some player some where went through the work to create said Legendary.
Not guesting. Your server population is too high. Especially on JQ,TC,Gandara, and the other top tier ones. Like on Blackgate the 2 guesters I saw at my last event didn’t have much impact. It was the 400 people from my own server showing up. Open your eyes…..
This.
We were occasionally hitting overflow long before guesting was implemented on Sanctum of Rall. It’s the increased loot drops that are making these events so popular.
There are more people on my server than can fit into one zone. Yours too most likely.
Oh you just missed the sale. Well, weigh it if it’s worth more to buy 1 character slot for $10 or $60 to get 5 character slots + an extra bank.
Oooooh, nice!
Yeah, I wouldn’t open it – it definitely has collector’s value
Even if they were to turn guesting completely off, there would still be overflows.
There are more people on your server than can fit into one zone at a time.
No.
In PvP you can only use PvP items.
In WvW you wear your PvE items and they are scaled according to your level.
Nicely done!
(we oneshotted all 3 tiers on Wednesday but we barely beat the timer – Prisoner 1411 Y U reset?)
enjoy the pve “farming” endgame.
thats the problem.
wow had hardcore challenge with epic loot.
gw2 have facerollable farmable events and boss or scrap to salvage.endgame will work if the gameplay is worth it. now, in pve, your hero is a farmer.
see it how you want, not every player is ok with that.
it does get boring.
In GW2 it’s the PLAYERS that are epic.
If you’re anywhere near in the top 2 server tiers then it’s not a guesting issue for your server. It’s a “too crowded home server” problem. You’d have to be a couple straws short of a hay bale to guest to a high pop server for events……
I’m thinking it may be time to reintroduce server caps.
You can only guest on 2 servers a day for your whole account, the events are just more popular now with the increased loot drops.
3 mil+ people, 51 servers – even if there was zero guesting it would be an issue.
Yeah lets make it more of a WOW clone with every patch gg ANET.
Since that feature was available in GW1 (and in many other games!) why do you call it a WoW clone?
Guesting isn’t the problem. You can only guest on 2 servers a day – no matter what character you are on.
The problem is the sheer amount of players. Everyone has come out of dungeons (and judging by the commander hats, WvW too!) for the increased rewards.
Think about it. We have 51 servers for 3 mil+ players. Thats upwards of 50k players per world, all logged in at prime time, all trying to do the same event at once.
If guesting was the problem we would have seen this problem LAST month when guesting was implemented.
Probably because we have so many ways to remove stuns and slows

Check the guild commendation vendor in Lion’s Arch, next to the other guild vendors.
Per John Smith there was no change.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/are-globs-of-ecto-going-to-tank/first
Lets start this train early with this patch. We did not nerf ecto rates of any kind, we’ve never nerfed ecto rates, if we change ecto rates, it will be in the patch notes I promise you.
PS. Your math is incorrect, salvages are independent statistical events.
I’ve got 4. It went like this:
Tuesday, Tier 1 Bounty – 2 commendations
Wednesday, all 3 Bounty Tiers – 0 commendations
Friday, Tier 1 Bounty – 2 commendations
There was a reset in there somewhere, not sure if it was the weekly reset or if one of the patches reset it. Whatever it was it happened sometime between Wednesday and Friday evenings.
(note: all of our raid times are within an hour after daily reset)

If you ever decide to come back just remember, all you have to do is step through the portal and you’re there, in a magical land of glory, victory, and triumph.
Too many people has created the lag. I think they need to cap the servers again.
