To be honest I can be in combat and have stuff hitting me on low level veins and trees and stuff and never get fails. I’ve gotten low level veins and had one to three mobs on me and never failed once. Granted this was on a level 80, makes me wonder if level has something to do with it since monsters might have less chance of hitting me.

Mithril and above obviously will fail if in combat or something happens while doing it. As far as the chance of failing it was really bad for me for a while, even with Ori tools, for now apparent reason. I haven’t had too many issues lately though.

I understand maybe wanting something more human/elvish. And I’m not one to bash peoples personal tastes, you like what you like.

But honestly I love the Sylvari so much in their current state. Though I always like plant things.

You can look kinda close to human/elfish if you pick the right colors and stuff. Certain lighting conditions can make brownish Sylvari to look more human. Can’t do anything about the leafy hair and stuff though.

Black lion keys

Katreyn.4218

I’ve gotten 2 keys from dailies lately. Since the latest patch. Not sure if coincidence, but I recall talking about it in a thread a while back suggesting for keys to show up in other areas aside from rare drops or low level story quests (aka dailies). That said I rarely get any BLTC stuff with my dailies. :/ So no idea if this existed beforehand or not.

Honestly though I feel if they up the benefits to opening a chest the keys would be forced to be rarer again or the price in gems (for the keys) to go up. Right now they are still pretty meh. But I don’t hear of many people opening chests with hard earned money/gold very often unless they really want an RNG skin. Which is not exactly fun.

The chests are so dang common though I just junk them after I get around a hundred or so or whenever I need bank/inventory space. There is definitely no scarcity to those things.

You can be a huge fan of MMOs and not like every MMO or not really like MMOs and find that one that is like amazing. I mean sometimes some just don’t work for you. So don’t feel too bad if it really isn’t your cup of tea. Thats why there is so many different kinds to choose from.

As far as what you may be “missing” it sounds like you are just missing something that may be an attractive playstyle or activity that draws you in. And that is usually pretty hard to find if you don’t have much experience in a lot of other MMOs. Heck, even just not having friends or persistent people to play with can totally kill an MMO for most people.

If the combat and other things are just really not doing it for you, maybe its just not for you though. If you haven’t tried I’d just suggest trying other classes to an extent and other races just to see if something strikes an interest in you. The beginning of any MMO is kind of slow and very rarely appealing to people though. You just have to think that there is something nice and shiny on the other side of that bridge.

I honestly really enjoyed the questing system and general experience of TSW. The whole looking up clues and things was pretty neat, though you can look up guides to like everything now.

Sadly the combat left a lot to be desired. Like…a lot (the dodge system and movement during combat was just not that fluid and felt terribly awkward). The “class” system was interesting, if a little confusing for me at first. I will agree there is a ton of variety here, but there is also a ton of room to screw up a build.

I found that even attempting to be a pure on “mage” as solo was way too hard for its own good. If you were soloing, going melee/ranged was pretty much mandatory. Or if you go “mage” was like blood/assault rifle. I can’t say I know much but the 3 months I tried it (and I enjoyed it might I add) it kind of felt I was being pigeon-holed to cookie cutter builds regardless of all the choices.

Personally I kind of prefer GW2 system because there is less room for mistakes. The game shouldn’t really punish you for wanting to wield a certain weapon or play a certain way. Granted for most classes something is always going to be better/preferred.

Katreyn.4218

If we want to grab attention of “mainstream” I don’t think elves is the right way to go. As seen here, to be honest, elves are one of the love to be hated races. With gnomes and other puntable races next.

As far as if the game needs elves or any other common fantasy races other then already exist in the GW universe I really don’t think so. If you look at the races in game, playable and not there is pretty much a little of everything. And in the future will probably be more.

On the topic of Sylvari are the elves. I can see why people would jump on that boat. But I see them more of dryads or nymphs then pure on elves. And most people that like elves say Sylvari are ugly in my past experiences so who knows.

The only thing that you might struggle on solo is the queen bees and the final boss.

I just found the bees to be easier if someone kited them while the other beat on them. I couldn’t find a space long enough in their pattern to beat them down quick enough. Just got kinda tedious lol. (This wasn’t the infantile mode that I was soloing). Actually I found the frog boss to be easier then the bees. Since he has a VERY obvious pattern.

Everything else is pretty much the same. The general mobs are easy to dodge or avoid entirely.

Some of the bug fixes kind of surprised me that took so long. For example, the weird Elementalist auto attack bug on changing elements. That has been around since launch but the issue kind of disappeared for me and I haven’t really had any noticable issues with it since.

Overall it seems pretty good, classes seem to remain in tact. And with that some interesting additions to Living Storyline as well as existing content (WvW) and the leaderboards next week.

I kind of hope the Living Story dungeons are solo-able for story times sake (I’m thinking more personal storyish as opposed to the story mode dungeons, but now that I think about it it probably would be more story mode dungeon with nice artwork cutscenes I hope).

How do you guys make all your gold?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I dunno I change it up. Usually Orr farming (running around collecting materials and doing any events) and lately boss farming (I really only do about 2 or 3 bosses and then get bored). The 5s from dailies adds up too if you can complete those.

Vendor all my blues and greens. Salvage the golds and whites. Keep the materials I wanna keep and sell the rest that I don’t use. I usually keep ectos and tier 5 and 6 mats. Make golds with tier 5 mats and salvage those if I need more ectos for whatever reason or sell them. Usually sell tier 6 gems since I don’t have a master jewelcrafter and only keep the ones I need for legendary. If you sell all the things I hoard you can definitely make easy money. :P

Usually can get 1 or 2 gold a day, of course you can get more if you play longer and more luck. I really don’t play long these days, maybe at most 5 hours in the evenings.

Are you going for a legendary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I try slowly. As I gain materials over time of playing however I play. I’m about 30% still lacking the most important item(s) like the prereq and dungeon tokens and pvp tokens. Not having the prereq makes it less likely to finish any time soon so I don’t rush the other items.

If it happens it happens. All I care is that maybe I’ll see it before this game is done. :P To be honest I like my current weapon without all its “fabulous-ness” so I don’t really care too much.

Eh, I get bored after like the 3rd boss fight anyways. At least this means after the 2nd fight (depending on if you have a daily for group events) I can go do something else. Which I usually do anyways lately.

Really it was inevitable. As long as we get a guaranteed rare (or exotic) a day I can’t really complain. Thats more then I used to get through random drops.

I do think the guesting issue needs to be looked at though. I know people guest a lot supposedly. Personally my server I’ve never hit a overflow for the fights, but a lot of complaints I have seen about guests.

Exotic Drop Rates?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Outside of the Karka event chest (got 2 weapons then, and the one account bound ring). Which I honestly would count that out of the equation in terms of drop rates cause that was a rare event. Not including Map Completion either (that been done on my main since like September, haven’t got that far on any alts).

I’ve only had two exotics drop ever. And that was only after the chest changes recently. One is a torch I’m still trying to sell and another was exotic Melandru’s bloom accessory.

I’d say thats pretty normal for something that is supposed to be pretty rare. I also run with no MF gear outside of food and banner buffs. So I would say its about right in my pov.

It still blows my mind people are getting 3 or 4 a week though. Granted they probably play more then me (only 465 hrs since headstart) and roll with MF buffs/gear all the time.

T3 Cultural armors - why so expensive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I’d say the most casual of player could probably get a set in 6 months if they wanted, 3 or 4 if they can pull 2g a day.

No way! In my view a casual play does not play every day. And even than if you have an hour to play, (saving) 2g is a lot.

That was me failing at punctuation I guess. I didn’t mean a person that doesn’t play every day could generate that 2g, but someone that plays more moderate (I only play about 2 hours a day and can get a gold a day at least depending on my luck; generally maybe even more if I didn’t hoard everything nowadays). Someone that plays every now and then was the 6 month or so theory if they generate 50s-1g a day. This is assuming you are already 80 and vendor/sell a lot of your drops obviously. But its hard to make math theories for generating income since its all in how a person plays and their general luck and time and effort. :P

But yeah, back on topic, I understand you wanting to make “awareness” to the price/quality thing. But its one of those horses that has been beaten to death on this forum since they changed the price a long time ago. Personally I opted for the armor over the legendary, as either way I was saving for one or the other when I got 80. /shrug

T3 Cultural armors - why so expensive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

It’s really just a end game skin grind. The price is high, but its meant to be a goal for people to work towards at 80 if they want it.

It is accessible, but it takes a bit of time. I’d say the most casual of player could probably get a set in 6 months if they wanted, 3 or 4 if they can pull 2g a day. Its a good way to learn money making methods at 80 thats for sure. At least it was for me.

I will admit the price jump for tier 2 to tier 3 is substantial. And the “rare” color makes it even more misleading. None of the cultural armor really seems to exist for their stats, thats for sure.

Monthlys: 3 vets per minute.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I spent around 3 hours last night in Orr event farming, was going to do it anyways, was even better it helped for monthly. I expected it to take longer, but with the changes I was getting around 2-3 veterans per wave, or at least per event (pent/shelt, tar elemental, phlinx, jonas, etc. you get the point). Had 38% done with events when I reached 100 veterans. :/

That said, I don’t think it needs to be farmed so hard. If you play decent amount of time and variety 100 honestly shouldn’t be too hard. Most areas have a veteran or two in every little area so I don’t really think there is a natural lack of them around. Combined with events you get a bigger chance.

But to each their own. If you enjoyed spending your time killing the same 3 mobs for a couple hours then ok. O.o I couldn’t do it though. :P

Yay, what a great monthly!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Yeah I was kinda stoked to see it. I actually managed to get the 100 vet kills last night in Orr with the new changes (so many vets now), have no idea if champs counted, doubt it.

The crafting was a little lame (mostly cause I didn’t read it required masterwork+ at first :P). But it actually forced me to use the mats I was hoarding and finish some rare recipes I hadn’t discovered yet so I can’t complain. And the events made back the money I wasted on buying string.

But yeah, I was also hoping we’d see the pick what you want for monthlies too. Maybe we will at some point. People are always going to disagree on these. Only way to please everyone is make it a pick what you want thing.

Ascended Earring Costs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Personally yes i think the laurel price for these items are obsolutely disgusting.

at this rate by the time we get to armor they will cost 50 laurels a piece, thats a year just to gear one char.

Look at the time and work that guild must do to get them the Laurels cost is right on if not lower then what else you must do to get them though the guild events.

Thats the way I see it. Sadly it’d be quicker for me to get the Laurels and ectos then the guild badges. I’d definitely get all the Laurels before my guild could unlock or complete the missions. The amount of ectos does seem a little extreme. But with the rares being more common I think a lot of people could get 50 ectos by the time they have the Laurels.

Frustrated by lack of Black Lion Keys

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

The amount of chests that drop is ridiculous. I have almost 400 chests (probably have looted more, but they get tossed pretty often). I’ve maybe had 4 keys drop since launch. If you are going to make something rare, maybe the chests should be rarer too. I know they want us to buy keys, but the chests are delete from inventory unworthy atm since they only sell on TP for 3c and theres thousands on there.

Maybe they should add black lion keys to daily achievement item pool. Like the rare chance at other shop items. Because most of my alts are done with the personal story that give keys and I have no interest in “farming” them from personal story either. So it would be something to consider.

In my opinion, Dailies are a shallow gameplay mechanic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I’m going to have to agree with you.

A couple of months ago I probably wouldn’t have, before I realized what truly was killing my MMO experiences. But my MMO enjoy ability has largely decreased over the span of most games because of dailies.

WoW added dailies (rep grind before that was kinda ok for me at the beginning point). Every couple of months I’d have to take a break or give up on dailies out of repetition boredom (this is coming from someone who used to love grindfest games like iRO, etc; eventually you just get tired).

SWTOR. Enjoyed game quite a bit honestly at first. Added dailies. Quit 2 months later. >.<

And that list could go on, but you get the point. In comparison:

GW2. Added laurel system. While it is a much more forgiving system now compared to doing 12 quests to kill x of y. It is still generally a get on every day and make sure you do this otherwise you miss out (honestly the costs make this more apparent then anything; apparently 24 hrs is only worth one laurel atm, which is kind of silly with the prices).

You could say you don’t ‘have’ to do it. And I’ll agree with that in the game’s current state. But it makes GW2 walk a questionable path compared to what they preached so much in the beginning.

Now if they add the whole Laurels for you achievements system that everyone says may happen. I think it would definitely let off on the whole ‘gotta do this every day’ feeling. At least to a degree.

Culling. Where have all the people gone?

in WvW

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Yeah I never had issues with culling in beta and at launch+, or at least noticeably until January/February patch. I may of had a bit, but it wasn’t noticeable before then. Pretty sure I didn’t though.

For me:
January patch = monster culling. Can’t see majority of “waves” in bigger events. Especially if there is a lot of players around.
February patch = can’t see majority of people in a populated area. Even sometimes in a lower populated area.

Even in WvW before Jan/Feb I didn’t experience the dreaded culling everyone complained about so hard. But then again my servers WvW is not near as densely populated even in the biggest of events. So I imagine PvE content has more players then WvW in my experience.

Randomly appear dead corpses. Invisible stuff attacking you, etc. Culling is really unfortunate (and annoying). I hope they can figure out some way to deal with it soon.

Hopefully this will address culling in PvE as well. But I guess they have to “test” it out somewhere, right? >.> And I imagine WvW has more population for most servers anyways.

I’ll tell you one thing, it’s easier to get a full epic set in Wow than trying to get one of these ascended rings.

They are doing great man xD

Yeah, I’ve do Fractal runs (30+ runs I’ve stopped now, can’t stand it anymore) and never got a ring that was worth anything to me. Haven’t even seen a vial either. I have pretty terrible luck it seems.

I do wonder if the chest buff that is giving out more rares will cause the ecto price to tank a bit. Probably not by much.

Either way it is kind of annoying. But atm I like my guild but we can’t do the guild missions. I’m not complaining about it. I’ll bite the bullet and buy, considering I have a majority of the ectos already (saving for legendary stuff). But that also comes into play that they love cutting into peoples legendary stash for other slots (ie. ascended infusions and backpieces).

Personally I kept feeling it was only a matter of time before they do something to the DEs in that area. The timing and everything and general ease of the area was just too good to be true. It even got so much better recently with the drops, it was almost guilty feeling.

Way I see it, if you are going to make us kill a champion. Give us a chest. Doesn’t have to be a huge awesome chest like the temple events. Maybe a smaller one like the other champ events like Hydra queen and the flame elemental. Champions drop rates on themselves is garbage to nonexistant. The only reason people kill that champ (that is largely ignored most of the time) by the base in Orr is to reset Phlinx.

I had more fun today going back to old zones and doing the bosses again and stuff. But I also know that that is making a large hindrance in collecting tier 6 materials. But at least the chest buff is decent.

I kind of understand why they want people to spread out and move around. A lot of the time its very hard to do temples on my server it seems just because people stay cooped up at Pent/Shelter.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m not sure how well it would work with the current combat system. NPCs seem to suffer quite easily at the hands of enemies, especially in dungeons.

I wouldn’t mind having the ability to use them for like story mode in dungeons for a special difficulty that doesn’t really offer much benefits maybe other then to experience.

I think if they offer more then that, it would potentially hurt grouping for dungeons. Even though I think a majority would still prefer a competent human over a NPC.

Honestly theres a lot of everything used at this point. Even tier 3 cultural is pretty common to some degree, at least I see quite a bit, but still less common then Dungeon. Dungeon skins do seem to be the most common, as they are pretty easy to acquire and look quite good.

I think it just makes a lot of “high level” skins, or lack thereof, more apparent lately.

As far trying to be “unique,” I would just say either mix and match if that looks good to you, or just wear what you like and looks good on your character. Then you really don’t care what everyone else is wearing if you enjoy it. :P Personally I think dyes are really a huge factor here. If you go for some uncommon colors (in color scheme, not so much item rarity) you can look quite a lot more different/unique while wearing the same armors.

I’d say go for amulet/rings and other things before the boxes though.

I am in majority PVT gear as well (Ele), with a little bit of Knight stuff for extra precision. My current amulet is berserker though; think its one of the first things I bought when I got 80. I was originally working on making the emerald part of the triforge amulet, but with the ascended pieces I’m better off getting one of those. As for my Ele I feel Vit and Toughness is probably my best bet so I will be getting a PVT amulet since I still have a rather low health pool, but my survivability is fine, but just what I was originally going to do anyways.

As far as infusion I am not sure to be honest. I think I’ll benefit more in the long run with gold infusion potentially. Just because I’m a cook and have tons of magic find food and other sources of magic find if I want it. As far as gold find, its pretty rare.

Quote from ANet about the issue:

It’s displaying the daileys based on your system time, but the server actually hands out credit for completing them. So you need to your system time to the correct time. (It’s probably set for the wrong date.)

To set your system time you can click on the clock on your taskbar and change it that way.

Edit: Too slow. xD

Glad you figured it out though.
