New BT Weapon Skins

I like the staff out of all of them. I love the little venus fly trap looking things that come out of the tentacles. I prefer it over the dreamthistle staff since its less blue/green. Not really sure why they chose the blue glow though – nothing about blue glow strikes me as modremoth. I’d expect red or purple or orange or something.

But the other weapons are pretty “meh.” Feel like they could of put a bit more variation between the weapons to make them more unique from each other. Staff is really the only thing that feels like it has a personality in the bunch.

I only have one alt that is not 80 yet. And shes already 45~ from Tomes. I’ll probably never officially level her. But I’ve leveled all but two characters with the excess tomes I’ve gotten over the past 2~ years.

No idea what I’ll do with them once I max my last character. I guess horde them with everything else on a possibility or new class/race and I bother getting another character slot.

Its pretty common to be around an hour from now. But I’ve also seen a handful wait until almost reset time UTC.

They don’t post any official times for a reason I suppose. :P

Edit: Or whenever that new build message loves to pop up. Like right when I was posting this.

Graphics Artifacting

Katreyn.4218

This looks very similar (albeit the screenshots look a lot worse then I ever had) to the issues I had with my R7 260×. But turning down the factory memory clocking to 750Hz totally stopped the issue. Not saying that will fix your issue though. Just throwing it out there so you can maybe look into possible issues with the factory settings.

Curious if alt tabbing clears up the artifacts (at least temporarily)? It was one of the strange things that cleared up the artifacts when they started getting really bad in the middle of fights or something. Though sometimes it would take multiple times if it was particularly bad at certain camera angles.

Your most-progressed deleted character?

I had a level 40-50 Sylvari Guardian I made. Even bought some of the Tier 1 and 2 cultural armor for her. Mostly made her because I always liked the look of a Sylvari Guardian.

But this was after the NPE and I already had a level 80 Human Guardian that I mainly used for storage and had maxed Artificer. So deleting the low level one was worth it since I didn’t want to hunt down traits again and I wasn’t going to delete the older Guardian due to crafting and such. Alas there can be only one. :P

Making new chars as a Veteran of the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I made one character after the NPE update. Partly to try it and because I always had that one slot left and no idea what to do with it.

I’m not fond of playing a lot of characters to begin with. But originally GW2 offered it as a very big ease of access to start a new class or character. I actually enjoyed alts for once in my life.

I like the level-up rewards and stuff and the locking off seems pointless. Well it is literally pointless to a Veteran since release.

But the traits unlocking still rubs me the wrong way every time. Sure I have the option to buy them with gold but I don’t want to buy every single trait because I don’t want to go play Eternal Battlegrounds or something else that is pretty obscure or an event that is broken, etc.

Needless to say that alt is almost 80 due to being the only character that wasn’t 80 that I use the level up scrolls on and she is now just a storage character. :/

Pretty much this I would suggest.

Come around on the 13th and see if the new LS sparks your interest or continue on your vacation.

I’m not sure if Retaliation would help people learn sadly. But I understand your intention with it.

But I fear it would turn into Gold/Silver all over again with people just laying around dead not bothering to res/run back because they died. Doesn’t mean they learn from the death either. While less people chase G/S around and stand too close and pop bubbles too early. There is still the handful that haven’t seemed to understand the faults in their approach.

Seems people just don’t want to take any advice and would rather argue endlessly about Copper during the fight rather then change their actions to just try it for once.

Someone always AoEs (it might be their first time, who knows) but I would assume most people would stop if people mentioned it wasn’t good for the fight. But I’ve also ran into quite a few players who don’t realize the attacks they are using are AoE attacks (For example, Ele fire auto attack on staff is something I see people clueless about it being area attack sadly).

You don’t have to do jumping puzzles. But you need to have access to the multiple types of chests found in certain zones. Jumping puzzles just are one of the easier ways to guarantee a chest the end.

For example you need a plant chest from Sylvari zones. Asura chest from Asura zones. Orr circle chest from any Orr zone, etc.

The wiki doesn’t list all the possible chests. But there are some hidden around zones for the most part. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Warming_Grawnk%27s_Heart

Doesn’t list what kind of chests are what. But heres a list of open world chests: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_basic_chests

Female Sylvari Cultural Armour Dye Issue

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Some dyes have multiple colors when applied to Sylvari armor. For example on my Tier 3 Light Sylvari armor its almost always green and red. Despite only applying green only dyes. Personally I like it that way, but I can understand it being an issue when trying to match up armors.

I’m not sure how this armor in particular dyes but I wouldn’t be surprised if it has the mixed hues with it as well.

But I can’t say the pink/red here makes sense given the dyes you have chosen. I’d try other colors in greens and browns and see if it changes the veins. It may also be tied to the missing boots piece. But I doubt it.

So its better to potentially have a headstart or just buy up the specific extractors for the bladder pieces if I result in terrible luck. Instead of just throwing the gamble chance away on only needing 1 type of piece at the moment.

Considering my luck, I’ve actually gotten more hearts then bladder pieces when I was opening them.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Overall I can’t really complain. Most are particularly easy and don’t require a lot of effort.

My biggest complaint is the map specific event ones. While its nice to see a map heavily populated. It seems to quite often be the lower level maps which when the events get bombarded can be quite frustrating by finishing way too quickly to achieve credit for any number or people. I think it would be nicer to see an option or three maps to do events possibly as a choice between lower and higher level zones.

But I did have an interesting experience in Gendarran Fields last night with Nebo Terrace event. Event had to be fully scaled up. So many elites and champs. The horde of people were getting knocked around like pinballs by the trampling centaurs. xD

But with the addition of the log-in rewards I don’t feel guilty skipping a daily so overall I’m pretty pleased with the experience.

Tangled Paths achievement broken?

in Living World

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

The motes in the past two episodes can be a bit buggy. Not showing up properly for some reason.

Some methods people get them to show up:
Log into another character, then back to the character you intend to do the achievement on (worked for me when none of the other methods worked).
Guest to another server.
Enter an instance started by another player if they on the achievement part.

Supposedly talking to Caithe before starting the mote can cause it to despawn as well. But I never had that issue since it just never spawned at all most of the time.

The Dancer in the Dark mote was most elusive to me. Took a good 30 retries of getting the instance to spawn it.

Personally out of all the suggestions logging into another character then back onto the one I intended to do it with worked. Guesting and even joining another players instance also didn’t help for me.

Super annoying though. Having to relog a ton of times to do one achievement.

It’s supposed to be right behind Caithe in the corner as you walk up to her. Its said to avoid talking to her till you trigger the mote since that can also cause it to not appear. But it just never appeared for me for quite a ton of attempts.

I had this issue with my R7 260x for the longest time. As well as some others with the R series. I’ve sent bug reports to ANet about it as some others as well. But haven’t seen anything said about it.

I tried everything though. Reported to to AMD multiple times as well.

But recently (past 4 months or so) I got it to go away. But I had another issue with my R7 card. When watching videos or anything just running desktop normally the monitor would black out, sound still running, computer fine, nothing erroring on logs or anything. Seems its a huge fluke in the particular card series that causes that. So manual fix was to go into Catalyst Control Center in the Overdrive section I had to turn down the Memory Clock settings (defaulted at 1625 MHz) to 750 MHz. Haven’t seen these weird artifacts since.

Could just be a coincidence that it worked though. As I’ve updated drivers multiple times and never noticed a difference for a long time in getting rid of the issue until I did that.

My suggestion is wait and see if they write anything of interest on their note. Like their most played class or something to get some better ideas pertaining to that particular person.

Which is something I totally didn’t think of when I filled out the form.

Some ideas I have lined up:
potential weapon skins (skin or weapon)
mini pets
dye
foodstuffs (everyone always needs more foodstuffs – but getting 5g worth of foodstuffs is probably a little extreme – I’d just use it as an aside to the other gifts)
maybe armor skin but less to choose from then weapons
maybe a gemstore item if I’m feeling really generous
one of the unique tonic or “party” items

This event has made me realize though how there is not as much festive items to send friends then I originally thought though.

Vortex Crystal in Glint's Lair

in Living World

Took me a bit to get this. But it is a bit sensitive on how close you need to be to the crystal aka standing right on it.

I breezed through the Darkness boss with chain lightning, so I didn’t really need to stand directly on them.

Last boss was a bit confusing because of order of having to pick things up. Overall interesting fight/mechanics but there is really no indication other then trial and error on the order that I picked up on at least.

Kill summoned facet/get color buff, get fragile shield, get color buff from aura on vortex, stand on vortex directly in the middle of it and melee range it.

Suspension for griefing Maize Balm Farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Question, since I don’t do that farm. I thought that area was instanced. How was he getting into the other people’s instance to grief them?

Where this occurred was the area in Rata Sum people have been using that is open to everyone.

As for this topic. Its a strange thing to me. I assume they made this item as a “fun” item. But it turned into such a huge deal when in the players hands. Sadly its just disappointing to see how it has been handled compared to things in the past.

Edit: Guess I should clarify that as far as the actions of the GM seems sound. Griefing is only a piece of the pie at this point, and honestly a small one. Just this whole thing with the Balms in general is really ridiculous and fueled by the poor decisions on dealing with the item in general. Yet again, it feels like ANet made an item that they failed to see how the players would react with it.

The PvP skin box always felt like it was a huge part of the AP chests. I got quite a few skins that I am thankful for getting that way.

I did think they were going to do something with the AP chests with the wardrobe change. But nope :/ just some WvW schematics, badges, and then some other random stuff. It feels a lot less interesting to open when you are in the long pass between the bigger gold rewards or skin selections.

Got the 12.5k one at the beginning of halloween. I went to open the chest as I’d done my daily at the exact same time. Didn’t even realize I opened the chest till I checked a couple of days later since I knew I was close. Nothing really stood out to me that I had got to a AP milestone. As opposed to before where you’d open the chest get the PvP skin box and see all the skins that you got out of there. Heck, even if it was mostly ones you already had it at least felt like you got some loot.

In terms of world bosses and pve “armor” really doesn’t matter. While Vitality can help with condition damage and overall health pool. Toughness is usually negated just because the hits they make are so big overall.

That´s completly wrong.
With enough thoughness/protection/traits and healing power u can facetank every singel encounter in this game.
Vitality is what is not needed. Vita and heal power fill the same role. Vita is for short fights, to absorb some burst, healpower is for longer fights.

Good to know. I totally forgot about how good healing power works for guardians. So forget what I said.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katreyn.4218

As far as I recall toughness really only comes in as being “too much” in some dungeon/boss mechanics where a squishy class has the most toughness and becomes a prime target. This may just be a myth, I don’t remember exactly to be honest. :/

In terms of world bosses and pve “armor” really doesn’t matter. While Vitality can help with condition damage and overall health pool. Toughness is usually negated just because the hits they make are so big overall.

As always best to learn to avoid dangers rather then stand in it. But I’m sure you already know that. :P

As for WvW the only two things I can say in terms of armor. Personally I like all soldier armor in WvW, but some might prefer others. Ok damage, and then you get vit for higher health pool. Even with cleanses I find conditions to be the biggest culprit to death in a lot of WvW scenarios.

Mob Mentality in Kessex Hills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I’ve seen this a lot leveling alts in Kessex lately. Pretty much the mindset is the loot is better if you let it fail since you get more champion enemy spawns so you get more bags. Typical loot farming mindset.

I do think people act obnoxiously rude to people that may not know better. It is a low level zone after all. Since most of the farming herds moved out the starter zones new players are not subjected to that mindset until that zone really.

Either way if you are there before others and want to complete the event then go ahead. People will give you heat but that is just the aspect of the problem. In reality its just a side effect to a bigger issue that is hard to address properly it feels.

What happened to just being nice and explaining to people? I dunno. Its a strange breed of MMO player.

Obviously I had never played said games, or knew who they were. They never addressed a name on the letter so I had no idea how they mistakenly mailed me. So I would just mail them back saying they mailed the wrong person. Never got a response though so never figured out if I had a similar name to another person or something. I’m sure some were kind of embarrassed though. Since some were kinda personal. :/

Never had any items attached. But if you really are unsure who it is. I’d just return the items.

Whats your story on why you started GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Well I started GW1 after a couple of friends told me about it. It was a little disconcerting for me for a long time since I had played a handful of f2p MMOs and you know how those usually are. So I was kind of biased thinking it would be similar. I enjoyed GW1 a lot but never really made it a “main” game to play at the time. Just a good off and on persistent thing.

As for GW2, I have played many MMOs. And I had jumped off the bandwagon on SWTOR after a couple of months of trying to continue to play it by myself after friends died off slowly after launch. Pretty much ended up quitting since it wasn’t worth the sub fee. But around that time GW2 beta was floating around and I really got into it and it just stuck.

Now GW2 is really the best place for someone like me to go to if I want a MMO experience without paying a fee. And the combat and other things are enjoyable bonuses for me. I still play almost everyday but I love the freedom to come and go as I please.
