You love Champ Zerg but hate Raids

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Because Zergs are easy in easy out type game play, you join when you want to get your loot (carrots) then leave when you feel like it, you don’t affect anyone else.

Raids require coordination, setting up, getting everyone online at the right times etc.

My thoughts exactly.

I have nothing against raiding. But not long after trying raiding in some MMOs I realized that it was terribly impossible for me to pull off. Finding a guild that worked with your schedule, etc was just not worth the effort.

I love that I can drop in and out at my own free will with GW2s setup. Even with the new Tequatl fight, as long as I show up and know what to do with the position I am in then I am not hurting anyone. Most days I come in do a handful of bosses or events, and then just leave. Never having to feel bad I ditched the group or find someone to take my place. Its all on me personally.

I think this mindset that they were going for was to be more casual friendly. Because casual raiding is almost extinct. Sure you might find a guild that only raids on weekends. At least with the current setup as long as you show up at the time a boss fight starts then you are good to go.

Underwater Combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katreyn.4218

I want to like underwater combat. But playing an Ele you can feel some areas are lacking. It can be fun though, but it can also be frustrating if you can’t line up freaking lightning fork and it just goes through enemies even if you are directly in their face. >.< Having something based on axis alignment underwater is pretty strange, considering all other auto attacks for Ele trident are homing.

Playing an Ele so long, I almost find it very strange to play any class that can switch weapons underwater. xD But playing a Mesmer and Guardian underwater just makes me see the potential it has.

Underwater combat is a cool concept and I think its ok. But if they ever put in a really underwater based environment they are going to have to heavily change some classes abilities I think. A entirely different Trait setup separately from land traits or just, allowing you switch out traits like you do weapons/skills when you enter water would be interesting though.

400 was the highest I’ve ever achieved. And that was with very little Scarlet event farming back during that LS. Well that was combined after the little bit of farming in the Queen’s Arena area as well. I just got pretty lucky with champ drops.

Before that I barely broke past the 100g I spent on tier 3 a year ago now. That 100g was farmed in Orr back when the event chains were pretty steady flowing.

I have very little these days cause I don’t care to spend too long doing daily boss runs or anything. So I sit at 5-10g normally.

I noticed this too today. 11 came and went and I was all “Huh, I am pretty sure it was supposed to end…” But running the full 12 minutes I was in there, my team racked up 20+ points. Definitely got a little silly after a while with the keg spawn.

Will you ever get your legendary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Nah, probably not, unless they truly offer nothing for a long time after Ascended armor that uses tier 6 mats and the collection builds up again.

But when Ascended weapons came out I opted to sell off/use some of my collected materials (all I was really missing was Precursor and finishing Orr runs) because I really wasn’t fond of Bifrost for my character. Nothing against the skin, I just saw it was not worth it. The chance of me changing my weapon stats is very slim so the benefit of switching is low. As opposed to armor where it would be very nice.

Now if I came across the precursor for Meteorologist I would definitely consider working towards that one. But I do mainly use Staff on Ele for the time being.

The individuals that have 3+ Legendaries. I have to give them mad props for their effort. Even if they were just super lucky at the beginning of the game or otherwise to get the precursors. Because I find the whole process overly tedious, even for someone that used to love grinding for things in other games.

GW2 Free Trial

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I think maybe they extended because of lack of awareness of trial (I didn’t even see the announcement till the 1st, as it didn’t show up on my launcher and I don’t regularly look at facebook). By then it was “too late” to tell any friends about it. Besides its midterm week for them. So it fell at a bad time. But the extension does let people play over the weekend if they got a late start.

As for the gold spam, I logged in this week and had no idea why the spam just came out of no where. Of course after I found out about the trial it was pretty obvious.

Paid more for gems than a sub fee this year?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I have paid a bit, but not a lot. Maybe 30$ max. The gold→;gem conversion is really a great thing for me that doesn’t want to spend real money on certain things (like pets or town clothes, stuff that doesn’t necessarily add much to the game, but I want), I spend the real money on bank/bag slots to further my accounts ability.

Its always a risk that comes when a game has a item store. :x I know a game I played for years switched to f2p and started putting out item boxes and I spent so much more for the item boxes then I ever paid in the sub fees. shakes fist at gambling boxes

I think the people that justify spending like 10-20$ on gem store to equate a sub fee for another MMO is a good idea if you want to buy items from the store but not overspend what you would do normally in the course of a year. Personally I really don’t see buying gems if you don’t want anything that month, but eventually it does add up.

I have to say first thing I thought of looking at it was some kind of Werewolf. Which is quite possible considering the next update has to be something to do with the Mad King/Halloween. /shrug

Yeah they look “okay” (and I use that term lightly), some pieces at least…but definitely not really feeling the designs. Granted every screenshot I’ve seen has had hideous dye combinations so I’m sure that doesn’t help bring out the armor design.

This coming up is why I am kinda disappointed at my lack of luck to get level 80 trans crystals from dailies. But oh well, would just spend some gold on them when the time comes I guess. :/

They are not account or soulbound, so it must be a bug if you cant sell them.

Hmm, is the TP still down? Can you search for it at least? Wish we had access to the TP outside of the game…

They are on there for sale.

Took a while for them to show up for me despite searching for them earlier. Or was just a huge delay on everyone posting them.

How costly are they?

14-15g atm for Caithe.

Trying to get level 26 or something on my charr warrior to finish story achievements. Sadly its not going to so well. I

was able to blow my way through the personal story up to that point being severely underleveled. But can’t really finish the last part being underleveled.

And leveling up cooking is not really something I want to do for her, so I’m just slowly chugging through hearts and stuff. :/

I’ve actually lost a lot of interest in back items. I still haven’t found one that doesn’t feel silly after a couple of months wearing. Glad the hide option exists.

I dunno what I’d rather have instead then a back item though. We got a mini twice, which some didn’t care for. And the zephyr model which was cool but its a bank slot filler pretty much. Best thing we’ve gotten imo is the crystal node for your home instance.

I’d love to see more variety to the meta rewards. But not sure what to expect from these additions at this point.

Edit: Oh we can pick between Mini and Back item? Not sure we can pick, but it may be tied to another achievement. I think people would complain if we had to pick. :x

Definitely an annoying issue. I always just assumed it was meant to be one of those perfect angle things, which is incredibly annoying when you are working with the underwater z-axis.

Even if you are in the enemies face perfectly aligned it can still miss though. As jway says, it seems to go right through them. So I agree that this needs to be looked at.

Probably my favorite auto attack to use underwater, yet it continues to be terrible.

Oddly enough this is the way Ferguson’s Crossing has been the majority of the time I’ve been on today. Literal ghost town. :/ During the week it was overflow all the time. Seems people either gave up on trying with the server, or just gave up in general.

And it seemed like the only people there were people that are weekend warriors that haven’t even tried Teq yet, and had no idea about the mechanics. One person was saying that after a certain point in health the timer disappeared. >.< Sometimes I wonder where people get their information.

I think he makes some very good points though.

For one, the whole no guaranteed time spawn (sure you can camp the timer, but its the same waiting game you do in game too). And it is definitely something that I think the lower population servers would probably benefit if it was a guaranteed time you could plan around. All day today my server barely had 10 people at Tequatl and was zero overflow, it seems everyone has given up or stopped bothering.

The achievements thing is something that popped into my head the first time I was skimming some of the achievements. Having achievements go against the productivity of fighting the boss is a little weird. Granted they don’t take you out of the fight too much. But in the fights current state, if any amount of people working on hunting the treasure in the pool, or tail swipe could definitely take away from the chances of winning.

And of course the whole overflow thing has been beaten to death. :P

But I do think some of the criticisms he brought up should be looked at by the devs when they make the other boss fights or something.

Exploration achievements

I always liked the little scavenger hunts/exploration achievements. Its one of the few achievement categories that I truely enjoy seeing something new in (minus that one diving point in that Aetherblade jp that I can’t seem to land :P).

I also enjoyed the Sea of Sorrows hunt too. Probably the most tedious was the poster one in Ebonhawke, but I enjoyed both of those as well. :P

Its always nice to see little things like that added. I still feel like the book “quest” for Mad King/Halloween was the best one they did though. It had a lot more context and story. Want to see more like that.

So thanks for the little Dragon hunts, not that there was much there. It was something that almost seems like it should of existed long ago considering the dragons have been flying around for a while.

Hard to say, it’ll take some getting used to. But I fear the timers/people needed may interefere with my boss runs at non-peak times (ie. early morning when most people at school/work).

Yes Tequatl is hard at the moment, but imagine once a gimmick is figured out it’ll be ok.

The other bosses seem generally the same for the time being, minus the timers and some minor changes. Not exceptionally hard though.

Still too early to entirely complain, but I hope it all evens out somehow in the future.

Only thing I can say personally is that Claw of Jormag was my most hated fight in the game, as it was for many, due to length and other factors. Tequatl feels like Claw of Jormag on crack. xD

I admit I am slightly concerned how this will play out. After all its rare my server pulls out more then 30 to a boss fight at any given time. At non-peak times it is even lower though, sometimes rarely being over 10. I’ve done the current Tequatl with only 2 other people before as well. :/

But considering the rewards and what I saw at the Scarlet Invasions, I know my server can pull the numbers it people want to come.

I just hope people feel the rewards are worth it and continue to come often (time vs reward is a serious plague for something that lasts a while like Claw of Jormag). Guess we shall see. :P I know overflow and other things will plague this for a while, so hope everything goes smoothly. knockonwood

Catapult smoke lag ? or just me ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Nope, not just you.

I never really noticed it until a Scarlet Invasion in Harathi. And I was in the area with all the catapults and the game just went to a hault for a good 5-10 seconds when one landed right beside me and a huge dust cloud came up. It was quite troublesome.

Of course, at the time I blamed it on the influx of people, but it occurred even when the map was not populated. There was a thread on that in the bug forums back around that time too, though only like 3 or 4 people posted in it.

Before I knew the cause of it, I was running through Queensdale near the catapults at the fort place and my computer struggled for the first time running the game. I found it very strange but I never had it again till the experience mentioned above.

Have never seen one since, so the only source really is Personal Story anymore for me. And I’m at the point where I don’t think I’ll ever make any new alts so they will just waste away in the bank.

Quite a few really. Before Laurels I like never did dailies. lol.

Now I usually do them as they are pretty quick, but been a couple days I just don’t care for it. The roll over time is really what kills it for me usually. I just go to bed instead. :P

But yeah, never been a fan of the whole daily thing ever since MMOs invented them. At least here they try to make it as painless as possible. And if you do miss it, you aren’t really hurting yourself if you aren’t an AP hunter or working for something with Laurels.

How to get contiune coins?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Yeah its pretty random on the chests drop rate. I did around 50 chests (jp and splendid chests) the other day and only got 2 coins. Got tons of Princess Mia stuff though. Course today I did only like 4 or 5 chests and got a coin 4 times. :/

They still drop, but it seems to be pretty random now compared to back in April. Honestly I feel if you can do the first level boss (which is quite easy) in World 1 you get a continue coin and maybe the second boss if you can do it easy enough, it gives you two pretty easy coins guaranteed. Then you can farm the other chests if you want.

Of course the bosses are only once a day now.

I did 50 chests today JP and splendid guarded chests for fragments today. Got only 1 coin.

But got at least a good 20 Princess Mia items to outfit Moto quite a few times around. I’m assuming the loot table either gives you a Mia item or a coin from what it seems like to me. I never get both.

I know you get them guaranteed from boss chests in SAB once a day now but still feels lacking compared to April. Maybe I am just unlucky.

Ascended weapon vs Legendary weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Personally after the patch I sold off all my collected items over the course of the year for Bifrost to opt for an Ascended weapon (and I was pretty close to be honest). Why? Because I never really liked Bifrost in the first place, but it was just something to work towards. Ascended weapons was a bit more appealing to me from a standpoint that I could actually reach (no lack of a Precursor that might as well not exist in drop tables lol).

As above mentioned I really just see no use for having the whole “stat change” ability on a weapon for me personally. But it is a handy thing to have and of course you’d never have to worry about your weapon going out of date.

Now legendary armor on the other hand, being able to change stats at will for different builds would be amazing, and I’m cringing just imaging the item collection for that. >.<

If they ever put in a legendary weapon I found appealing and matched what I wanted my character to look like then I would totally try to put in the effort for it again. But right now, I am happily fine with having an Ascended staff over fancy Bifrost.

Empyreal Fragments are absurd

Katreyn.4218

It would be nice if they could do something based on difficulty/length of the jp/dungeon. Right now doing a long jp to only get 2 fragments is totally not worth it.

I assume they wanted something to be somewhat harder to get compared to the others.

Just pick a couple jp/dungeons you like running that are easy and do them every day. What I’ve been doing and if I get 2 from everything it’ll only take me a week (I do about 13 jp), I only need 3 stars left for the first weapon.

Also the random guarded chests by veterans can drop them too. Like the veteran chest in Wayfarers and the Bandit Hideout chest in Queensdale. I’m sure there are more chests, but I haven’t bothered to look them up. I know the super small ones like the ones guarded by the jotun in the potato farm in Wayfarer don’t drop them though.

Help with ninjas in World 2

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Strafing really helps against the red ninjas that evade and knock you back, actually its good against pretty much everything in the SAB. White ninjas are pretty simple, assuming you aren’t in a rough place and they snipe you their ninja stars.

As for the raft I found stunning them with a whip to be super effective. But in open combat stunning chance feels low since the chance to miss is very high. You can try range attacking them with the slingshot/bombs, but I feel the chance to hit with this stuff is really ridiculously bad. Glad my character doesn’t want to play baseball or something, jeeze.

The ninjas are a pain the butt though. Definitely the hardest enemy yet imo.

Edit: didn’t realize the palm deflected. Should of guessed since the boss fight did that. xD Nice to know.

I will say there is one small fluke with the “rapids no longer do damage.” I managed to get stuck by rapids into a wall and no way to jump out (particularly right beside the checkpoint after the raft), just constantly knocked into the wall. I eventually had to reset the level completely, because of no means to escape. Of course, this is one of a time thing I think though.

I definitely appreciate the flower jump pads change though. I have had trouble with the jump pads and zephyr sanctums lightning pull since the whole jump pad has been discovered. Rubberbanding and hitting some invisible wall/falling mid jump. The set path makes it a lot less frustrating that is for sure.

The geysers felt strange at first, but considering you want to make it a little less buggy for latency and otherwise its a “nerf” I accept. I did have issues with the timing never lining up on my screen (ie. spout showing up, but on the server side its actually down). So I do appreciate the need for it.

Bloodstone Dust overload

I do wonder if the overload is just that there is a ton more champion enemies then any of the drop areas for any of the other sources. That and its especially easier to farm them, and they love to drop like 100 per bag.

I could only wish I could get fragments at the same rate. :x Ore seems okay in PvE, but WvW needs some help for the drops of both I feel.

I’m not fond of them but I don’t hate them. If they truly are the last of the last in basic gear then I don’t mind it. The item collection is tolerable (them shards are a pain in the kitten though).

If it was harder for me to complete them, then I’d be the same way as with legendaries, even if it is a stat increase. If I can’t get I won’t care at the end of the day. As long as I am still able to enjoy some aspect of the game that I like doing.

How does this game not have fishing?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I have never understood why fishing was in any rpg or mmo. First I encountered it was in a Korean game. So I thought it an Asian quirk.

I would ignore fishing probably. All implementations I know so far are mindless and dumb. Even killing white critters is more interesting.

It can be quite mindless and I think that is part of the draw. You can just unplug after a long day and do some fishing. No combat needed or anything too serious in thought. Granted you could do other things, but really fishing seems to only attract certain people. Some really hate, some love it for the same reasons. Definitely a different strokes sort of thing.

Usually fishing is tied into cooking somehow, but here I’m not sure how that would work. They’d literally have to rework cooking (or add to it…how/what reason do we have to level it to 500 in the future anyways? >.>).

But it really is some minigame in some way. Personally I prefer when they aren’t very intuitive and you just click to cast and click to retrieve. Instead of minigames per say like Torchlight where you line up the lines. I do think it needs some player input/interaction to not make it mindnumbing, but its definitely a more complicated area, because there is either too complicated controls, or too simple controls. Probably why Anet strayed away from it.

Even if it wasn’t added as a main feature but some kind of small mini-game, like the other dozen they haven’t finished. That no one is forced to participate in. /shrug

You get so many achievement points on the fleeting content it’s hard NOT to do it. But I have a full time job and school and family. I also hate to feel left out or feel like I’m falling behind, so I feel I have to to it, even if I’m not enjoying it. AND, to top it off, it’s often hard to tell what you’ve done. For instance, the 13 different invasions thing KILLED me. I ended up spending an entire Saturday waiting for ONE last map to come up. I hated the game by the end of the day…. seriously I was mad and ready to throw my computer out the window. It took ALL the fun out of it.

I totally understand that my own sense of HAVING to complete things is an issue I should deal with. But if I’m not going for achievement points then what? Legendaries? That’s even more of a grind that takes sometimes thousands of gold or hours. I love the game in general but I still need something to “go for”. But every two weeks is just too fast. Personally, I would like quarterly new actual content a lot more than the current “in and out like a bullet” system.

I think the last two events really burnt out a lot of people.

I know they sure put me on the edge. I enjoyed pavilion at first, but did not expect the giant fest of invasions afterwards. It was a little extreme.

Really if you are going to put two giant zerg fests in don’t make it a back to back marathon. I dunno if they were trying to burn the farm out of us, but they more so burned out any sense of enjoyment for some people.

So......where's the grind?

Very interesting to hear you can get ore and frags from chests on multiple characters. Guess I should get some alts to 80. :P

Also being able to get the fragments from the guarded chests is very handy. If you add that to a simple boss rotation if you have the time to wander its a couple frags for nothing (ie. veteran chest in wayfarer near maw, bandit camp by the dam has a chest in Queensdale as well). Not sure about all the places, but just the handful of easy stuff I do already they were a nice addition. Most even gave me more then my trouble for jp. I just hope its intended.

You want grind I got it. Heres my shopping list. In order to have best in slot gear (regardless of whether or not you need BIS gear for the content thats out there, I dont care, I like having the best stuff), I need the following weapons:

And thats not even including underwater weapons. :x Though I guess its not really a huge deal since not a lot of “end game” underwater content at the moment (aside from underwater fractal, but thats it).

I admit it is definitely a serious chore for anyone that uses lots of weapons or has alts they play regularly.

I play a staff ele so obviously not much for me to do there. But I was leveling a mesmer up before the addition but I pretty much have that on hold indefinitely because of it.

At 100 per brick, those piles sure disappear fast. :P

And no cooldown on crafting the bricks either.

Can you sell the bricks?

Don’t believe so.

You can sell the spirit wood and deldrimor steel ingots though. But those are a more complicated refined material I suppose.
