So......where's the grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Its really not as bad as I expected. And the materials dropping is quite generous considering. If you a person that just generally plays and does something at 80 you are bound to get most of the materials, some will obviously get it faster then others.

The only true “grind” I see is more of the waste of money you have to throw at crafting to get it to 500. At 479 the crafting of Ascended materials is greyed out to me (other then the 500 recipe ones). Only a handful of discoveries left. Assuming they wanted you to do all the discoveries (and this is with a crafting booster even).

Water sprouts in the Rapid W2-1 is really unfair. I’m speaking about the specific stretch of spout jumping in the river section.

Spouts disappear on the server side before the client registers it, thus sending the player down into the rapids WHILE the player is still standing on top of a perfectly fine spout.

And the knockback mechanics on the water is rather crazy. I saw myself teleporting in 3 different directions while I’m stuck in forever-knockdown mode.

I had this issue back in World 1 and never expressed it since the spouts only occured in the hidden rooms and it wasn’t such a huge loss.

Sometimes I’d be standing on nothing (spouts disappear but server still registers it as still up). Then sometimes I would fall through a perfectly fine spout on my end even if it literally just came up on my screen.

This occurs even more in World 2. With even more loss involved.

I used to just write it off as lag induced by my poor ISP. Which I don’t doubt has some interference with the issue. Really frustrating.
__
But yeah, I don’t want to beat the dead horse. But the difficulty is not so bad after a while, just the length is the main issue. I really appreciate the work put into it none the less. So I am in no means ungrateful for being able to experience it. So I hope you aren’t taking the criticism of all your hardwork badly. Just makes my “I’m getting too old” come to mind. I used to do hard stuff like this all the time as a kid and growing up. Can barely touch it now. xD

If there was just some way to avoid the terrible issues that may occur that attribute to the random death infection I seem to be getting, as with others.

I did a jumping puzzles today and got 7, I need 500 to craft a weapon.
Which implies it is gonna take me 71 days to gather enough materials.

I think you misunderstood the “once per day” limit on these. It is once per day, per jumping puzzle, per character. You seem to get 2-7 mats per puzzle but you can do more than one puzzle each day and even with multiple characters if you want. And as the poster above me said, you get mats from other chests too around the world.

As long as the other characters are 80. Non 80s don’t seem to get the mats to drop, which isn’t really a surprise. I found out the hard way though.

Did a jp on a alt cause she was closer and no fragments.

Which JP was that? Just asking because I did the hidden garden yesterday on 80 character and did not get fragments at all from that one. Are they even supposed to be 100% drops?

It was just the demongrub pits in Queensdale.

It seems to be 100%, but I went back to a couple of the mini dungeons (Spekk’s Lab apparently counts as one) and they hadn’t even reset after the dailies reset. O.o Not sure if thats common or not. Never had that issue before.

Hidden garden could of just been forgotten. Not many people go there other then for the achievement.

Taking a LS break

Katreyn.4218

Yeah. Totally opting out of this one myself personally. Literally missing nothing imo. I’ve done them all up to this point as well and I am just so burnt out. Can’t even enjoy my free time because all I think about is worrying about the next Tuesday and the new achievements I have to do. >.<

I was debating all last night, while I couldn’t sleep, if I should just “quit.” And I got up thinking “yeah I’ll quit” but then I decided it might be better to take a break for this month. Try to relax and have fun with other games.

I was debating mostly because I keep feeling like I don’t have time to play MMOs (lol I should have all the time in the world being disabled >.<). But I am sick a lot and that takes a lot of time up, but I do have time, plenty of time. Its the silly LS that makes me feel like I have no time. :/

I used to really like events/holidays in MMOs. They were a big highlight to me. But nowadays I just cringe even thinking of “events” coming up. >.< It really shouldn’t be like that.

I’ll see how Halloween goes and if I still feel exhausted by this then I dunno what I’ll do.

Katreyn.4218

I understand you there but I feel confused as before this new patch I was happy just working towards my Legendary and now this pretty much screws things up

Yeah I know how you feel.

I actually sold a lot of what I was saving for Bifrost and opted to just make the Ascended staff. Materials are easier to come by imo, aside from the getting to 500 issue of tier 6 prices being out of sight. :P But I’m not too concerned, or rushed. Personally I was just never too fond of Bifrost for my Ele anyways, it clashed really bad. So no huge loss for me. If another Legendary staff comes out that looks ok to me then maybe I’ll opt for that instead.

Right now I’m just kind of holding off on “farming” for the materials. Want to feel like its worth it first. No reason grinding it out if there is going to be another tier or something silly. >.>

So just hanging in the limbo. Farming baubles a little bit daily for mini moto and his cross-dressing self.

Partly the achievements system drives the perceived stress. It’s pretty tough for most players I imagine to find the time to do all the checklist. I think that’s often a bigger complaint than the difficulty obstacles we often hear.

I do think that has a huge bearing on it. I know I ’d enjoy the content a lot more if I could just “experience” it and do what I want and feel complete. Not be tied to achievements and their form of completion. Sadly that is just part of gaming these days I guess.

Of course I could ignore achievements and all that stuff, and if its something I know I can’t do I will gladly ignore it. But in some cases the only rewards/gifts from the events that we get are usually tied to the metas now. At least they are kind of trying to make it easier with adding in ability to complete metas by doing dailies.

And a lot of people wouldn’t even know what to do if they were given free reign of a event. :P

I really feel sorry for people that started playing after Living Story was released or wasn’t 80 even. It is a totally different game now, and if you aren’t 80 its a real struggle in some cases to even participate in the LS.

Katreyn.4218

It definitely feels like it goes too fast. Never a chance to relax and look at all that stuff you’ve collected. It just goes in the bank cause the next week you got more new stuff you’ll never use to put in there. lol

Personally I’m exhausted by these updates. And I used to be a person to say I love holidays/events in MMOs, but now I cringe even thinking about it. So for this month I’m not even going to touch GW2 I think. If I still feel sick and tired then next month I won’t either. I just have to draw the line somewhere and right now I feel it isn’t a good place for me. And I’m not missing much this month anyways. While I enjoyed SAB, I can barely even dent the new SAB (I think me being sick and tired is making me easily frustrated, so its a good reason to take a break if any), and I’m still unsure about the future of Ascended so I’d like to see what a couple of months will do in terms of is it really worth my effort to hunt all the materials. :/

But yeah, you have no chance to actually play the game anymore it feels. You just play the LS and dailies and then thats most average peoples time spent. Is that really what they wanted us to do?

Honestly I feel there should be months where there is no new story update/event. Sometimes a game needs to settle a bit. Gw2 is running around in circles in itself it feels like. Because no one knows what to do/whats going on half the time, and once they do figure it out its over. No one has time to just stop and breathe and enjoy the view. Gotta finish them achievements/farm the items!

I got 16 from Shatterer. It could be random, but I assume its scaled to bosses value. The dragons and higher level ones may drop more. FE is kind of a low stage boss I guess, same with Maw and such, I don’t expect much ore from them sadly.

Jumping puzzles are entirely random on the Empyrean fragments though. I done 13 (some in Orr, some very hard, some very easy, some starter areas, LA) and got varying degrees of 3 – 9. Imagine dungeons are a little more fair on drops. But I got 56 fragments for 13 jp.

Race: Sylvari

Class: Elementalist

Problem: Lighting textures on Sylvari Tier 3 Cultural Light

Pretty much ever since the effects update recently the lighting on the shoulders and gloves, and parts of the boots has gotten really shiny and strange. I know the texture on those pieces was different then the rest of the armor. But it looks very strange and unnatural. You can see almost no color because of the glare on them.

First two pictures are Day/Night. It shows at all angles, but these two screenshots are just an example. Last screenshot is what it looked like before the issue.

Problem does not persist in the Hero panel or anything. Everything looks fine on that. It is just the general in game lighting everywhere.

I’ve tried changing post processing and anything that would affect lighting and nothing seems to help so I’m not sure if its a issue on my end of just the games lighting.

If anything, maybe make a way to disable/change the lighting effects in-game. World lighting in general looked a lot better before to me. :/

No More Power Gain

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katreyn.4218

I think thats my biggest concern really. I put in effort to finish ascended weps/armor then 6 months later they potentially make it worthless by adding a new max level or new tier of armor.

It is definitely an uncertainty that I think is the main cause for a lot of the complaints. Guess we’ll see next year how it all unfolds.

Though I think if they do add new tiers, they should give us the ability to upgrade current gear in the MF with some recipe. So that gear isn’t totally vendor/salvage trakitten least.

I’m not too sure where I stand on the subject though. Its annoying for sure, but it is a aspect that you can’t deny its existence. I honestly just think I would enjoy the game more if I didn’t have to worry about gear anymore after this tier finishes up. But they seem to think its a way to give us something to keep us coming back (I thought that was what the LS was for :P).

/shrug Overall, it feels like an unnecessary inclusion imo.

I am fairly certain that current mf gear holders will get a one time item to change the mf stat, it was what I gathered from the dev livestream where the question was asked how it was being handled. Sounds like it will function similarly to the way legendaries will now function but with only a one time use. It is possible I misunderstood what Linsey was saying, but I am pretty sure that is what is going down.

On that part I was talking about mystic forge upgrading not magic find. I thought I should change it after I wrote it since it is the same initials as magic find. Sorry for the confusion.

And it was just a rhetorical statement about if there ever was another upgrade of armor tiers that would make the current stats worthless (past the obviously expected coming stats).

Tier 3 Sylvari Cultural Light Refraction

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

First off, I apologize if there is a thread similar to this that already exists. I couldn’t find one searching, and the usual “bugs” for armors thread seems to have died.

I am just curious if the refracting on the tier 3 cultural Sylvari armor (light) is intended to look like this? I know the texture of the shoulders has always differed from the rest of the set, but ever since the effects update the lighting on it has been a little strange looking on the shoulders and gloves. It mostly just bugs me because it clashes so oddly with the rest of the armor now, more then before.

Screenshots are at night and day (I took screenshots at every angle, but for the sake of not posting a ton of pictures, I’ll only post two). It occurs at all angles but different angles obviously make it stand out more though.

Edit: Last screenshot is what it would look like before the update.

Companions or smarter Minis

Katreyn.4218

Minis with super loud audio or large amounts make me worry i’m annoying people. See: Super Monkey. I haven’t used it much lately but it may have toned down some. It was super loud and made sound as moving and on idle, but I think the biggest thing I felt uncomfortable about the trauma of the monkeys people experienced in SAB. xD

But I think if I compare the quiet to the noisy minis I think I’m just uncomfortable with the noisy ones because I am so used to the quiet ones. :x

The Ellen/Evon minis are quite unique that they sometimes say their NPC lines. They don’t make overly annoying sounds, but just talk randomly sometimes, at a decent sound level. So I totally agree with dialogue over sound effects per say.

And a Hobo-tron would be awesome. :P lol

Those materials are the easy part. Now you need 500x champions, 500x dragons, 500x temples.

Yeah, and I’m sure quite a few people have saved 500 or close to (as the op has quite a few) champ chests from the current invasions to open after patch.

I wouldn’t be surprised its one drop per activity, as much as I’d like it to be a little more nice.

But yeah, the regular materials seem to be the really easy part. Grinding all the stuff for the vision crystal seems to be the big issue.

Ascended Gear & T7 Mats: Why not wait?

Katreyn.4218

Sadly it would of been a perfect way to add them to the game. They possibly could still do it with the armor (but I doubt it if it hasn’t been done already).

The livestream today it sounded like they wanted to make other areas, but at the same time it sounded like they’d rather keep what they have for some reason. :/ I just wonder what would happen if they decide to add another area or vertical levels. Do they make another tier of gear? They could keep the gear the same, but whats the point of adding levels then…eh, they are really digging a strange hole that I wonder how they will fill in the next year or so.

Living Story 'fatigue'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I’ve slowly gotten more and more disinterested as time goes on. I wish we had a break for a month with no LS, at least maybe one that is a lot less to do for a while. So people can go do other things if they want.

For the current event I just did the achievements and then stopped for like the rest of the week (still took me 3 days to do the achievements because of missing the maps I needed). Only started doing the invasions again off and on recently and even though its good money its totally annoying. :P Same way I felt about the Queen’s Pavilion too.

The invasions by far have been the most time consuming in terms of achievements though. I thought it was a little silly to expect people to fight for 45 minutes on a map (and do that 13 times no less). On a couple of maps I was so sick of it I just afk’d somewhere for 20 – 30 minutes, as much as I hate to admit it. I think what made it worse was that it was an event that came right after another zerg fest at the Queen Pavilion not long before. If you are going to make mass kill events, please give some separation in time, its really draining for a game.

And next week with SAB, while I enjoy SAB, I am kind of dreading it just because I want a break, but I also want to experience it..but then theres also farming for crap for weapons, though weapons aren’t going anywhere so I guess thats no big deal.

I’ve probably had this ‘fatigue’ since the Consortium Southsun story. I’ve taken multiple breaks from the game as well. Just it never stops and part of me wants to see it and part of me wants to just stop and stare at a wall for a couple of hours because I’m that tired of it. :/

And slowing down doesn’t particularly make it better or more challenging, just makes people question their time spent more. :/

Curious to see how it would play out on live servers though. If the rewards are worth it (which they sound like it would be) then it will be done, otherwise it’ll be abandoned like every other “strategic” boss we have now.

Either way, it looks way more interesting to do then any of the current fights. I’ll definitely look forward to trying it.

We need more ways to get T6 Mats and Gobs...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Yep. T6 droprate is terribaaad

And lest we forget, to upgrade t5 you need 5 crystalline. That is insane.

Yep. You get a tonnnn of t5 just generally existing at level 80 (even more so if you spend any time in 80 zones). T6 droprate is still bad, even with the champ bags (that 90% of the time give t5 materials). That and dust is incredibly non-existent, I don’t understand that. All other tiers of dust is so common. The dust I would almost consider the main issue here, since you could transmute the tier 5 materials.

If they are going to move towards us using it more it needs a little bit more help. Not saying it needs to be thrown out like confetti. Just needs some more tweaking. It is definitely better then it was a year ago I can give them that.

How quickly are they expecting us to gather the materials though? Hopefully a lot of them drop more then one at a time. :S Otherwise it will obviously take a lot of people more then the two weeks to even gather all the ascended mats. Though there is some of it that is buyable, but I imagine the price might be pretty stiff for quite a while.

To be honest the requirements aren’t as bad as I expected. But its still sad, but I sincerely hope that after they get done with ascended armor we see no more new tiers. I highly doubt they can make something beyond legendary (besides legendary armor, which will probably come at some point). I think thats the only way I can last through this stuff.

I know this is a oldish thread but since it was revived recently I’d like to add to this issue.

I noticed it today when I was in Harathi doing the Scarlet event. Of course there is a lot of factors that could have made my fps lower then normal. But those centaur catapults totally dropped my fps at least 15-20 frames as soon as the dust came out. I had never had the issue ever before. It literally went to a halt for like 5 seconds after it happened then went back to normal.

I went back there later when the event was gone and it was a lot calmer and it still caused some fps drop. Still very noticeable. Even if it was like 5 seconds max.

I run everything on high mostly. With shadows down to low. With the recent culling change I could run with everything high but I found it was more comfortable to run with amount of people viewed to medium, textures still high.

Asuran Elementalist -- Bad choice?

Don’t despair! Like everyone has said Elementalist is just a interesting class to handle at first. Personally I played a Ele in GW1 and picked one up here, and they are two very different breeds. xD Gladly I had some practice in the betas to better understand.

But yes, stay on the move. Some weapons may help you more then others. Personally I think it comes down to preference. Staff offers a lot of crowd control and self support, but doesn’t offer as much damage as say a Dagger does, but you are able to keep the enemy away from you and burn it down.

Personally I found a good Staff rotation to be: pull with fire/lava font in front of them. Use fire escape if you need to. Then water for another slow, then drop the ice spike. Then earth for another slow and the earth burst skill. Lightning offers a lightning wall that stuns most enemies if they walk into it, except I think bosses (champions/veterans). You can vary in all this. I do all the time. That was just a general killing pattern I could take.

Dagger offers mid-range damage spells that vary greatly. And it usually puts out the most damage I’d say of the weapon sets. I’d put Scepter and Focus in this area as well as both are good and may offer a little more ability. Pick what you like though and find easy to use. Even though we can’t actively switch weapons in combat like other classes you are free to use them all and switch outside of combat.

Also once you better understand those, should look into experimenting with combos. Elementalists are the masters of combos. They can easily do combos with themselves or other players to give themselves more damage and other buffs. Can find a list of those here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo

But the number one factor of Ele is obviously to switch attunements. This is your weapon switching and it really opens an array of spells to you to keep yourself alive.

Just take some practice. I’m sure you’ll get to enjoy Ele if its a class you really want to play. And honestly the first 20 or so levels can be kind of rough. Ele does suffer from some drawbacks but it can become a very enjoyable class if you are looking for it.

Good luck!

Anyone seen a dev response about this, yet?

Edit: Aaaaaaand there is one.

Glad to hear there was something wrong and they are fixing it.

Definitely a strange bug though. Imagine it has something to do with making the character within seconds/minutes are the headstart launched. Seems to be the only similarity between most people.

I'm in love with the Sylvari

Yeah in comparison to the other races Sylvari are by far my favorite. Even though I only have one Sylvari, its because shes special and my main (oddly I have more human characters by coincidence rather then anything). xD

I tried making other Sylvaris but it just didn’t feel right. But the lore and everything surrounding Sylvari is very intriguing to me, and I really love anything to do with Nature and Dryads and all kinds of stuff, so as soon as Sylvari were announced I was all for it.

And I kind of have to agree that Caldeon and the Maguuma areas in general are kinda eh. I like aspects of them, but maybe its because 90% of it is risen. :P Though I love the Grove obviously.

Concerns about permanant invasions

I admit that if they are any near as big in enemies and coverage it would be quite a hassle for some people, especially people trying to level. But its really hard to judge.

I mean, it could become part of regular boss flow. But I doubt it will happen that way on all servers. Personally, my server hasn’t touched the Mother Karka event since the LS. I imagine this may very well be close to the same. :/

Its definitely a concern, as I have a friend or two that may join the game after this LS happens. And I worry they’d run into something like this and be quite confused. But who knows.

I don’t mind them keeping it and I guess its logical to keep it since Scarlet is still alive. Just I will agree it sounds like it could be a bad idea.

How to get "the legend"

Katreyn.4218

You don’t have to be an artificer. But you do to finish making the legendary (at least on a character on your account).

But yes, you either have to throw a lot of rare/exotic staves into the mystic forge, or be lucky with drops in open world/boss chests/dungeon chests.

How do you want to 'get' Ascended gear?

As fast and easy as possible. I do not enjoy regearing.

I feel the same, honestly. The fun part of this game for me isn’t doing the annoying treadmill to acquire every little piece of new gear, it’s enjoying endgame with that gear.

Agreed.

I guess if I have to choose though. I’d say as many different ways as possible. We have multiple currencies and multiple ways to level and play the game, getting end game gear should reflect that.
