Which class should my GF play?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Honestly I’d say let her play whatever she finds interesting. That is more then being super effective.

Heck, even if she wants to roll a Ele she can. She won’t be alone and you can back her up in the process. Though I will admit the ability to be effective with an Ele may be a long shot for her if she still struggles with WASD currently.

But also, if she does like a class you consider hard and don’t think she can handle it yet. Just suggest a similar class to play so she gets the hang of the controls/game and then she can graduate to whatever she was really wanting to try.

The basic “starter” classes have already been suggested so I don’t need to repeat those.

Good luck though, it can be a bit frustrating teaching someone that isn’t too fluent with games at first, but you’ll enjoy your time together. And thats all that matters.

Dangerous precedent: Watchwork Pick

While the current specimen is not immediately threatening. It is a dangerous idea to be seen on the gem store.

While I am not offended with the current item since sprockets are of little interest and I have the ability to gain sprockets from the meta item. It is still concerning, since it is something that could show up later on for items that I can’t easily obtain. But hopefully ANet already realizes this and isn’t going to play with that fire too much.

From what I have read, most people have explained their reasoning enough that I don’t have to add anything else. Other then my +1 to a concerned Tyrian for this possible item trend.

Mini-pets and titles.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I honestly have never been a fan of the whole “titles give you stat bonuses” in some other games. Only for the factor it comes down to everyone is eventually roughly using the same title on said class/build, etc. That and I would much rather just wear what title I like cause I worked for it/like the name. Not because the stats are beneficial. (But I guess if the bonus was small enough it wouldn’t matter then except to potential min/maxers.)

Not saying its a bad idea, just one that I have yet to see ever play out well in an MMO.

The mini-pet thing could be interesting. But it would come down to making sure that the ones you buy in the gem store don’t offer anything that you can’t get in-game. Granted the gold2gem conversion may make this work despite that factor. That said, it seems like an unlikely addition.

Request: Discussion w/devs about Underwater

Katreyn.4218

Underwater combat/exploration is a very interesting area. But sadly it is neglected and not expanded enough that its pretty much abhorred by a lot of people.

Combat does need to be looked at as far as underwater goes. And Aquabreathers have been oddly neglected since launch (other then the Tequatl patch for a chance at a rare one…which pales in comparison when you have full Ascended armor and Ascended underwater weapons, etc).

But I imagine a lot of the current issues people have could be picked up on in an expansion or patch. Its definitely something I’d love to see discussed or touched upon in the future.

Do you play alone or a group of people?

Mostly alone these days.

Real life friends have moved on or don’t have time. And I’m kind of antisocial in MMOs these years, so I kind of keep to myself so I don’t make very many lasting connections.

Overall, I am not unhappy with the experience as I can easily do most open world stuff without getting a group. And for any instances I need to group with I can easily find a group.

It can make the game kind of hard to feel fun sometimes. But I enjoy the open world boss events a lot and I think it kind of makes up for the lesser lonely experience I may have otherwise. And I can’t deny I’ve met some interesting personalities in game so its always nice to see them every day even if I don’t talk directly to them. :P

It’s really strange the crafting didn’t come back. As that was really the main reason to enjoy Tixx’s dungeon. And I felt it was a bit more rewarding at the end of the day, as well as something cool to do every day for a week or so during the festivities.

I also saved my last 2 frames and 200 cogs in hopes of completing them this year. Oh well. :/

Still unsure if I should toss them yet, unless someone comes along and says they are never planning to use the frames/cogs again. Heck even if I could buy the stuffing/glue/cogs, etc from Ugly Sweater vendors I would like that.

But I really wanted the festive golem. And I know some people are stuck on multiples of said minis from those boxes with no way to get rid of them.

Though I’m glad they are slowly trying to go away from RNG boxes, its just always a bit sad to see the things that were in the boxes are lost in the abyss.

I dunno, can’t help but feel that forcing people to pool up at the exploding packages was a bad idea. :S I don’t recall ever having a issue last year with it. At least it didn’t seem as easy to fail that part is it now.

And waiting to go alone is quite rare, considering more people are constantly showing up. Of course though, this is the only hard part in the whole puzzle imo.

Not to mention when the timer in the instance runs out and forces everyone back to the beginning and to watch the cutscene again. That seems buggy.

There is a “hidden achievement” in Ebonhawke to read all the books hidden around the place. You will get a pop up on completetion but no record of it in the achievement log. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Speedy_Reader)

While you are there, there is another achievement for tearing down all the posters in Ebonhawke.

Lots of interesting little tasks in Exploration achievements tab if your up for the adventure (mini dungeons included, which I also love).

edit: Or its not hidden anymore. Couldn’t find in my list so wasn’t sure, sure enough it it shows up now (as the wiki says). :P

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

Race: Sylvari
Sex: Female
Class: Elementalist

Problem: Elementalist Eye’s disappear after traveling via Waypoint (inside same map and outside of map) and when reapplying the headgear after coming out of the water.

This has existed for a while, but took me some time of noticing it to find out what was causing it. You can toggle the headgear on and off, or relog and it will reapply. Or sometimes it will reapply (rarely) after you have changed maps enough.

My Sylvari uses a Stone Eye transmuted on a Exotic armor piece. But I have heard reports or this happening with any of the Elementalist Eyes.

This started occurring after the initial fix to Elementalist Eyes to show up on transmuted items.

Living World: The Year in Review

An epic event that will rock Tyria to its very core awaits you in 2014.

I want to get excited about this so badly, but a few months back (around Dragon Bash time, I think) a dev said something to the effect of “We know living story got off to a slow start, but some big and exciting developments in the story are coming!” Of course, the big and exciting developments were that Scarlet was behind these wacky alliances.

When we as players read something like the above quote, I think many of us think along the lines of elder dragons, am I wrong?

Pretty much how I feel at this point. It feels like the phrase has been overused to the point that people associate it with being “not so epic.”

Though we do know that Scarlet will be dying off sometime in the future. So maybe that will be the epic event. Then there will be dancing in the streets I do believe. :P

Flame Eye Appearance Transmutation bug

If you’re still experiencing this, can you provide additional details on exactly which helm you combined your gem with?

We put in a fix for this issue with the 1/28 build, and I personally transmuted my flame eye onto another helm (and it worked fine), so it might just be specific armor pieces that are still causing problems.

Thanks, everyone!

I know this is an old thread, but since I haven’t found any new ones pertaining to the glitchiness of the Elementalist Eyes I thought I’d necro this.

I have noticed my Elementalist’s Stone Eye disappears on occassion still to this day (I’ve been noticing it more frequently lately now that I’ve seen the pattern that causes it to disappear).

Scenarios that cause it to disappear: Going underwater, when it reapplys the headgear when you go back on land it does not seem to apply the graphic. Also, using Waypoints (within the same map, and to another map) cause it to disappear.

Though it can easily be readded by triggering it on/off. It still is a little buggy.

My character is a female Sylvari if that helps any. It is transmuted to an exotic armor piece, with exotic rune.

I see nothing against giving a week/weekend boost every so often to exp or wvw xp/pvp xp (not that exp is hard, but it could just be celebration additions for events in game or something) or in other areas like dungeon rewards, more currency generated from things, etc.

There was a time when any race could get any cultural armor. I think they changed that in Oct. 2012. Does anyone remember how they handled that? Did they roll back the armor, outright delete it? I cannot remember.

From what I recall, could be wrong, that the transmuted armor would turn into the races cultural armor that is wearing it. Regardless of you buying human armor and transmuting and putting on a norn. It would just look like Norn cultural on the Norn.

I also remembering hearing something about bans. Not sure if it was in this case though. As a lot of bans were heftily handed out back in the beginning.

Edit: After looking up some old forum posts, seems I was wrong on the transmutation part of it (or it was changed to work like that after they ‘fixed’ it). As there was some humans running around with Sylvari Tier 3 and stuff. Can’t seem to find a single screenshot of such occurrence though. Maybe its lost with the times.

Exotic berserker's back piece

As far as I know there isn’t an exotic berserker backpiece. I got one, because I had a magic find back before the magic find change and was able to turn it into a berserker piece. But there is no vendor/recipe for one sadly.

I think the Balthazar temple offers one with crit on it. But it really comes down to what stat you are wanting to prioritize in place of berserker stats.

But now that you can make ascended backpieces with Bloodstone Dust in the Mystic Forge, you can look into saving up for an ascended berserker back (warning: powerful blood is insanely expensive >.<). Can also still make it/buy from Fractals stuff as well.

I’m glad to see Wintersday stayed intact though. Didn’t expect new minis to make it since you could only make one last year (or 2 if you got a second gift from ANet when the box was broken or whatever), so I get to make more and not have to decide between new ones. :P I know if people bought the rest in the gem store will not have much to do, but they could make tonics or something.

Pretty sure transmuting something over top of the skin would suffice. If this requires buying the level 80 stones, I’d contest it with support and try to get some stones to be honest.

The right support person may understand and try to help in that regard. It does seem kind of unfair to require that and not give any way to help..instead of wasting the gems they just refunding to “delete” the items.

Why was the color changed?

After messing around with some dyes again (mostly just switched to Grape Leaf as opposed to Grass or Olive) and it seems less dark then it did initially (still darker then the very beginning). And at night its quite pretty. I am quite content with the change to be honest. The glow is about as close I think I can get to my natural glow without changing my armors dye scheme entirely, which I am fine with.

Dunno why its so hazy at night in Orr but it seems to be, and glow oddly shows up quite less in screens (but my dye is kind of dark so its not super lucid). The Light does glow, even if it looks faint in the screenshots. :x Just a little on the legs on the right and chest a little on the seams.

The first 3 dropped within the first month of launch. Probably because I was playing a lot more and everything. But did get my 4th one within the last two months.

I would say it probably equates an exotic drop if not even lower now. I’ve never gotten a exotic from a drop outside of boss chests (and only that started happening recently) or ever seen a precusor. So, yeah.

Removing Race Restrictions on Cultural Armors

in Suggestions

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I personally always felt that part of choosing your race was choosing the cultural armor too. If that was an armor you wanted. If you wanted a Human set you’d roll a human, same goes for Norn, etc.

I totally understand wanting to open it up to everyone. And I think that having a faction based system and potentially allowing access that way could be something to considered.

But at the same time I think it takes away the “choice” needed to be made when a person makes a racial decision. I think if you take out that factor then there is little factor into the decision other then cosmetics and potentially skills. Which most people will still factor their character design over what armor is accessible to them in the long run. At least thats what I feel I have seen in this game since launch.

At the same time letting everyone have access to the armor isn’t going to make it more unique. Maybe in terms of mixing and matching. But not so many people do that. And in the long run it will be just as common if not more common then what we see already among races.

If anything we just need to see more cultural armor/armor in general released to the game. There has generally not been a lot offered in the past year then I think that people need.

Do you enjoy slow grindy leveling in MMOs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I never minded slow grindy leveling for years (when I was like 14 – 18). Hell I used to play MMOs that you’d spend months trying to get a level (eventually they updated and experience was lots easier). But the reason I did that? Because I had friends I enjoyed playing with and it made the experience more fun.

Nowadays though, I can’t even conceive the idea of doing that again. Maybe its because I’m older and have less time to sit around and do that, or don’t have as many friends to level with, etc. But its not something I enjoy to see if it occurs.

In comparison to my past experiences I think GW2 leveling speed is quite good considering the amount of levels you have to do. You can get experience in multiple ways and doing almost anything and it scales to your level to some degree so you are not really ever losing out. Where in a lot of older MMOs if you out level and area its a waste of time to even touch it.

I will agree that always in comparison another character is usually going to feel slow, and alt leveling is boring to some degree. I don’t think that is something any MMO can avoid entirely I don’t think.

In the long run I enjoy levels in RPGs and character development. But I don’t really think its always necessary either. I like ARPGs that give you hundreds of levels to eventually grind out on a character (though its very rare that people actually get that far before starting new characters), but I also like games like GW1 and others that have very few levels, and more story then the character development. I also enjoy RPGs that give you no levels entirely but more of a horizontal approach in multiple ways.

I think ANet will make something along similar style of what it was. If they were truly going for that “design” then I think they know what elements they want the armor to be. So designing something to take its place could happen. Heck, it might even be better then before.

I do think the Heavy and Medium needs to be looked at though. Even if the Light gets redone entirely, they barely seem like they are of the same theme aside from the fire. Continuity is still a thing.

Personally I think this whole situation should of never arose. But what can you do, it happened. Being offered refunds is the least they can do though. I’m sure they will credit in trans stones and a splitter or something if needed. ANet isn’t usually afraid to refund or fix a wrong when it comes to real money.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katreyn.4218

The decision does strike me as odd. First, why reskin two common armors for heavy and medium, and then reskin human tier 3 for light? That’s really unbalanced—doesn’t make a lot of sense.

This is definitely what confuses me the most. Aside from the Medium armor being WvW only. The Heavy is literally just karma armor. The consistency is very strange.

They might have to put out an armor set every month. But seems like they should of just skipped a month and worked on actual new designs rather then reskinning in the long run. Could of avoided this debacle and probably make more money in the long run because all the skins would be on equal footing. Rather then right now that in actual design vs. price comparison, the heavy armor doesn’t even come close to the light.

Just feels rushed. This isn’t helping the whole “2 weeks is not enough time to make decent content” situation at all.

Why was the color changed?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Does seem to dye considerably darker this time around. Same colors. Considerable difference in saturation. Sure I’m using “dark” dyes I guess, but the glow is pretty standout still for me. Still get the same general green glow I had before, just not as bright, or being the entire chest piece/skirt veins as before.

I’m glad to see the range of colors back. But this is just a tricky subject and seems like it’ll be hard to find perfect middle ground considering how dyes affect the armors so differently.

Good try at least. Maybe I just need to find another brighter green. Though in October I went through like every green dye in game and Olive was the only thing that dye similar to pre-october Grass.

If we are still looking for suitable middle ground. Best bet is just to make two different armor sets for both designs. So people can have their glow and bright colors and others can have the tame/no glow and deeper colors. /shrug

Ahh this is why I don’t envy anet’s devs sometimes. People love the original, they change it, then others love the new version, they change it back… Bah it’s just a cluster kitty if you ask me.
But I’m really sorry it sucks for you I’d be sad if they ruined my t3 too, but I’d be really happy if they gave us a 4th dye slot in the goggles…. Lola

Yeah this is a touchy area sadly. They should of just done two different armor sets from the beginning or never touched it. Trying to get the best of both worlds is almost impossible.

Personally I loved the original pre-Oct change with no glow. Though I didn’t mind the glow I hated the loss in texture/color mix. Now with the “reverted” its livable. But the people that loved the glow hate that the glow is not as pronounced as before. As well as the dye channels changed back to the mixed colors.

Definitely a touchy subject. >.<

Just a comparison of mine (personally glad to see the red back, but I know others hate it). It does seem a bit more saturated. But its always had that weird glossy blue-metallic sheen to it in the dark areas.

Problem is its such a touchy subject cause every dye affects these armors so differently. I think EveryoneGrudge’s Sylvari does look better with the glowing armor (and most bright colors do look better before). I know it just sucks to see stuff change on your favorite character. Was really hoping the middle ground would be a bit more..middle ground, though. Why is there still no seperate dye channel for glowing? :/ Is it really that hard with the current system?

I don’t have tier 3 human light, but I would be even more upset if I did. Just feels like nothing is sacred from the gem store at this point.

Sadly in comparison all the other reskins are just particlized “lower end”/karma armor designs. Except the one unique WvW skin for medium, which is just as sad that it is being used here.

Either way it feels in poor taste. While the particle effect is cool, it could of been cooler if taken the time and made more unique.

Well only one out of that list that I could be slightly interested in is ESO. But we all know that Elder Scrolls combat has always been lackluster at best. And bad combat makes for a pretty painful MMO no matter how good the lore is.

So for general thoughts on GW2 in comparison to those, I can say that my mindset on continuing to play GW2 is not threatened by it, and I will probably enjoy GW2 more then those for various reasons.

I like a lot of the skins honestly. But I find that there is such a wide varity (or not so wide) of choices depending on class/race/character design you are going for, that it can really limit you on those choices.

As a Sylvari Ele I love (in no particular order):
Melandru’s Gaze
Ascended Staff design (favorite colors: green and white)
Gnarled Walking Stick
Warden Staff (Sylvari Tier 3 staff)

I like earthy/planty stuff and not overly particle effects. Though glow-y stuff is cool, like Kasmeer’s staff, I just find it hard to place the skin on any of my characters that use staves. :P

Are dungeons or champs possible to solo

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

In my experience, story mode can be soloable if you are pretty capable (you’ll probably die a lot either way while you are learning how to deal with things solo). But it will be slow. Same goes with some of the paths, but that will be even harder then story mode. I’m not sure how Ele is entirely at soloing a lot of things, considering most that I see solo some dungeon paths easily is Warriors, but I’m sure its possible with the right setup and some dedication.

Champions are pretty easy to solo, not so much level 80 champs on a level 80, those can take a while (but still possible if you get a easy one). But low level champs are super easy on a higher level character that is downleveled. I really like soloing the golem that spawns at the camp in Metrica Province near the Reactor. Its pretty simple and easy to kite IMO. Theres quite a range of champions out there, some are quite a lot rougher then others thats for sure.

I didn’t try champs solo on my Ele before 80 that I can recall so I can’t say if that is a issue. But I can imagine it being kind of rough. But I have used almost entirely staff since launch on my Ele as I just find I work better with the range of skills. And can easily solo a lot of champions with that range of skills. Though scepter and daggers can offer just as much, if not more, just require you to dodge a lot more. It may also be a bit dependent on your gear. I run a 50/50 berserker/soldiers armor and accessories and I find it does pretty good. It offers me a good enough hp pool to survive my failing reflexes and enough damage to stay above par. But in the end, I think these things still depend on your playstyle and what you are comfortable with.

Good luck if you continue to try more in the future though. I’m sure you just need some practice.

Tower Floor 3 is anti-social

I will admit the mines seem like a poorly thought out idea for group content in an enclosed space. While not entirely bad, especially if you get everyone to run together. But that doesn’t happen always, so if you are behind or someone just decides to zoom past you, you can end up in some trouble.

I know its hard to take into account how players will play the content they make. But they definitely should look at how content like this is done by players and maybe apply some things learned in the future. People rushing through is a side effect of bad design imo, which only exacerbates the existing issues you mention (Don’t get me wrong, I think the tower was a good idea, and even quite enjoyed it, but its not something I would touch now that I am finished just because of some of the problems that have developed).

+1 for the weapons. While it is sad that stat combinations = color changes. So if you want a certain color to go with your getup you have to make one just to waste for a skin. Which isn’t terrible, it just seems like a step backwards in the system. Either way the skins look pretty good for the most part.

If the armors stay the same as what was “leaked” earlier then -1 on those (all on female). While no matter what they looked like I’d stick with the armor set I’ve been wearing for a year now. Though I’m sure someone can make them look decent.

Getting killled by "nothing"?

Its a pretty known issue that running down the planks will give you falling damage sadly. Supposedly if you stop moving as soon as you start taking damage (and allow yourself to heal) then you can avoid the death.

But I personally seem to instantly die even if I do stop, but I think that is a lag issue on my part more then anything.

Trying to find weapons.

Anomaly is always a good focus, albeit kind of expensive. But not too hard to make if you have some max level crafters and a 80. It is pink, but it could potentially still go with your style.

King’s Remembrance and the other new foci are cool though. King’s Remembrance is the purple one of that design, it also comes in gold and blue I think.

Only other weapon I can think of is the new sword Lord Taeres’s Shadow, but it also has that black shadowy effect going on.

I personally like the Rapier on my Mesmer as it is a very basic fancy sword. But the handle does have a bit of red on it.

Greatsword is always hard to find a good one for Mesmer imo. And there isn’t really anything deep purplish. But plenty of blue glowing stuff like Cobalt and things. :/ The new dreamthistle stuff might be of interest (they still have a slight green tinge to them, even though they are pretty dark), but they are probably pretty expensive on the TP.

Dungeon wise maybe Nightmare court stuff, but I’d imagine you’d have gotten those already if they interested you.

Just some ideas.

ToN dailies

There are still dailies every day for ToN meta. They are the spore icon (matches the ToN achievements) in your daily achievement tab. Should be plenty enough days left for dailies to complete though.

The new dailies for the new content are there as well, which can be quite similar (but different icon) so don’t get confused. :P

Champion Hybrid boss

I liked him as a boss solo, but in a group even with the increased HP I just feel the mechanics are quite simple. I will admit he didn’t nothing substantial or outstanding though in terms of a boss fight. Was still interesting at least the first two times.

But really only thing I quite disliked is that he just generally hit for nothing. Even though he was easily kitable/snared. I think if you are going to allow cc on him then let him at least have some threatening damage. That may just be a side effect of it being made applicable for everyone though.

A lot of the GW1 armor designs were amazing; even being dated it feels like GW2 armor pales in comparison I dunno why. Some of the hairstyles were pretty cool too. So I would definitely like to see something like that.

Killing yourself running down stairs?

I had this happen to me the first time too. xD I wasn’t surprised really considering the path is very steep. I swear I stopped running as soon as I saw I was taking the falling damage because my character was like skipping/slightly falling down. But then I just instantly died the second time I moved. lol

Its pretty much like when you are trekking down a mountainside in game and you start sliding and taking a little bit of damage if you make any impact with anything. Thats the best way I can describe it. Still seems a bit buggy, but I’m not sure they can fix something like that other then don’t make stuff so steep.
