Does Tier 3 culture armour seems right to you?

Price is fine for me personally, didn’t feel it was too much, and it was nice to have something to work towards.

As far as it not being fancy and elaborate like some of the dungeon sets. I dunno, what people like is what they like. Thats why there is so many different armor styles to choose from. The Cultural armor is just meant to be armor sets pertaining to their particular race and culture; tier 3 is usually what the main character of the race wears (ie. tier 3 sylvari light = Trehearane, medium = caithe, tier 3 light asura = zojja, etc). I’m not sure about letting other races wear the armor, seems to kind of take away from that and they’d have to find ways to model everything to all races, etc. There will probably be more cultural armors or just armors in general released to choose from. At the moment as far as skins we have the ones you get while leveling up, dungeon skins, faction skins, and most expensive being cultural skins.

Personally I went for my Sylvari’s set because it fit her race and because it wasn’t elaborate (like the TA set) and spouting fire (like the CoF set) and things, but I still found it very pretty (and some people think its hideous – that perception again lol). I also find it really hard to judge a lot of the armors because the preview either is default or adapts to your current dye set. So it can look either really interesting or terrible.

But the Cultural Armor you aren’t really buying for the stats. Otherwise you’d be hearing people complain for days about the stat allocations on them. You are usually transmuting them onto something else so it would be kind of a waste for a rune. Now if it was Exotic maybe a lot of peoples grief about the price would die down, but I dunno. If they still pertain to the stat allocations they have now, it still wouldn’t be primarily about the stats.

Why do you not WvW?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katreyn.4218

I try to. But my server seems to only do good at WvW late at night/early morning. And either way we lose about every week, except maybe one week out of a month, and usually pretty outnumbered in every case.

That said, the real turnoff for me is how long it takes to get around the maps usually, by the time I get to the combat its either already won or lost >.<; and the cost of dying (aka repair bill), I just don’t like wasting money in a situation where I am obviously going to die a lot, its hard not to expect a lot of deaths in a pvp environment.

I noticed recently using the starter dye “camel” on the Shadow set in particular. Well, the chest piece is crafted Shadow piece, and the legs are from a Karma vendor. Either way, used Camel on trim on Legs and on Chest. Chest = totally different color of brown. It’s the exact same set practically. >.<

Some colors really confuse me about their color schemes though. Things like “Grass” color, while it has grown on me, it is Green and then puts a red tint on everything as well. Grape Leaf does the same thing. To be honest I’m not even sure why the red exists in the color.

I also had a heck of a time on the Exalted armor set to get it to look decent…that armor dyes so bad….it wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t have horrid starting colors.

What am I doing wrong and/or missing here?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katreyn.4218

Not sure really. I know on my alts I’ve had more trouble encountering DEs at as much a consistent rate as I did on my first time through. Not finidng these DEs really hurts you exp gain a bit, and definitely your karma gain.

I’d just do what others suggest and go to Lion’s Arch and go to another starting area and do those as well. There are multiples of majority of low level zone areas so if you finish one and under-leveled still you can hop to the next one within that range instead of going to the higher level one.

Crafting does help to fill in some of the blank spots in exp gain, if you want to take up crafting. I wouldn’t waste money on it though, just gather all items you find on map while leveling (this gives you quite a bit of exp too) and then craft/discover stuff in your downtime as you go.

As Ele its quite good to always stay on the move unless you know you can face-tank something. You can cast stuff while moving, so don’t be afraid to kite stuff around in circles. But most stuff has some serious spike damage in melee range.

Largos must be a new race

Sadly about the only thing I liked about the Largos is the one in the story sounds like Tali and has a very similar mask to probably help them adapt outside of water. But it seems like they are supposed to be a pretty rare species in Tyria. Not sure how well making it player available will fare. But I’m not against it, the more races to choose from the better I say.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Thats like the only thing I get stoked for when I get it out of a chest. I especially like them for WvW because I really hate that the need to repair is quite common in it. So when I do my monthly 50 WvW kills I don’t waste a lot of money if I die a lot.

Fellow support players, what class did you choose?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

My main is a Staff Ele boon lover build. I like the ability to AoE heal and cure conditions and spam changing auras with each (max arcane – have trait for boons from auras as well). It’s not the best of support, but its close. And I freaking love crowd control, and Ele offers a nice variety of it at least.

I also have a Mesmer, Guardian and Necro. All within support areas. Necro mostly staff well build, and that seems to offer quite a bit of help to others so far (not very high level with this). Guardian is a no brainer on support. And Mesmer is pretty good support in Inspiration/Chaos traits. With Null field and Mantras they are pretty good.

A lot of classes offer good support abilities really.

(edited by Katreyn.4218)

I flat out dislike the trait system. All of it...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I look at the trait system as kind of a “Magic deck” where you look for the synergies between the traits to complement your style of play. It rely helps to start with a theme for your play style and work up from that.

The problem is many players just want to build a glass cannon instead of exploring the benefit of a supportive or damage mitigation builds.

This is pretty much how I see it. And with what I’ve done with my Ele I really feel like it actually fits with the way I play my character. I was able to balance a good trait build with gear to make up for maybe what I decided not to take in traits and personally I feel like it came out the way I want.

While I do agree some of the minor traits and trait lines seem a bit underwhelming, I think the overall idea works quite well. At least for some. Having more choice and variety may be something we see in future expansions its hard to say.

Why not make dungeon solo-able?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Some of the mini-dungeons for Achievements are pretty soloable. For example, Vexa’s Lab is soloable and a challenge. The boss mechanics aren’t too interesting though.

And originally I was under the impression that story mode dungeons would be soloable. I was kind of disappointed to see that wasn’t the case. I wish it was, just for the fact I feel rushed through the cinematics in them.

Why are a lot of gamers unsociable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I dunno if I would be considered anti-social in-game I’m pretty close though, and definitely pretty quiet IRL (except to those select few I ramble for days to :P). I will gladly talk to anyone that PMs me and asks questions and join groups and join those conversations. But I wouldn’t say I’m super talkative; usually the quiet observer that has some input sometimes.

As far as making/joining groups. I’ll join a group for a DE if someone invites, it REALLY helps in the drops department. But other then that, there is not too much reason to be in a group other then keeping track of each other.

In other MMOs I rarely made groups with strangers, I think in this game I do more groups with strangers then ever before. But I do find me being “alone” in my endeavors to be a bit more relaxing most of the time. I spend a majority of my time in a group trying to either keep up with the other person or something. At least outside of party I can go at my own pace and wander where I want.

Now if I had more IRL friends in-game I’d gladly probably be grouped with them a majority of the time.

I do feel I experience some kind of nervousness when having to group with strangers. I always get anxiety when grouping for dungeons in any game if there is one person I don’t know or grouped with before. /i’mweird

I’ve had this happen recently as well. I didn’t realize it at the time but getting aggro may have affected it, especially on me cutting down trees, never had this be an issue at lower level spots though.

I also used to use the green “mining picks” from karma vendors on Ori and it used to work 100%, now it doesn’t seem to be the case. :/

I also had this happen a lot during Halloween when I would change to lower level picks for candy corn. And sometimes I would change my picks in the middle of cutting down a tree or something and it’d result me in failing. >.<

Theres that creepy old lady hanging out with the Imps in Brisbain Wildlands that gives you “food.” Think thats the only distinctly old person I can recall.

I do wonder where all the war-worn and old are. At least in the case of Charr and Asura you can assume that its hard to tell. As far as we know Sylvari don’t age like humans do, and if they do its probably super slow. Even the firstborn look fine, not withered at all.

So that leaves Human and Norn. While some have grey/white hair. They all look pretty close to immaculate. :/ Tyria must have amazing plastic surgery or everyone is a Mesmer. More older people would be nice.

Low Lvl Areas Empty... Not many replays contents

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I do my daily on my alts. Well majority, save the last bit for main to complete for better reward. Usually because its too expensive to travel around as an 80 to get the 15 unique kills. So I rack them up on my alt, along with events, etc (high end zones just seem to lack in the unique monsters it seems :/). Then save the last event or critter kill for the 80.

But I notice the human areas seem pretty bustling to me on my server. But I don’t really play my alts as much as I could (just don’t really get into them so much, so only play in spurts). Level 20 – 30 zones definitely seem to be the busiest that I’ve seen.

I think people are just so spread out now its pretty hard to tell to be honest.

Legendaries: worth getting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Personally I don’t think I’d ever use the ones that I have available to my class (staff majority/trident – don’t really use scepters, etc). The stats are nothing too different then what you can already get and I have a staff skin I love that fits my gear/character.

That said, I don’t have much else to work towards in the game, so its kind of a long-term not really trying atm goal. If it so happens to accrue over my lifetime in game, then great, if not, not gonna be upset.

But I think if you really want one and want to put the time in it. I’d say its worth it to you. But it is definitely a time sink and expensive. xD

I also agree with the above poster in terms of the precusor. If you happen to get one then you already have a huge step done. If not the biggest step done.

100% completion do it as 80?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katreyn.4218

I’d say its more enjoyable to do it as you go through the zones while leveling. But thats just me. I’d rather be a completionist while leveling, it seemed a bit easier. And I hit 80 really quickly regardless, not even 50% through the world map.

That said, doing it after 80 will no doubt be faster. But it will probably be kind of a drag I would think (stuff being really easy to kill, etc), really depends on the person.

Katreyn.4218

I got more then enough level 80 transmute stones from chests over the process of getting to 80. Most of the keys were quest rewards, think I had 2 keys drop. In total I had maybe 8 stones. Though I never blew the stones on changing my exotic gear to other stuff I saved them for the items I really wanted, which in this case was my tier 3 stuff.

Wish we could do something with all the low level transmute stones though. I have to force myself to use them. xD

On topic though, for the low level gear the stats are interesting. Like tier 1 syvlari stuff is condition damage, and could be useful to some. But like everyone else says, you aren’t buying them for the stats. And I’d rather not be buying them for the stats personally. They should just be statless gear imo, but I guess its just in case people really do want the stats I suppose, or don’t happen to have rare gear for that level, for some reason.

Dredgehaunt Cliffs: Sadistic Level Design?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Dredgehaunt cliffs was probably the first zone I really disliked. More importantly the vista in Sky Peak…oh boy was that fun. Had to redo the gate thing like 3 times (not counting how many times I had to fight my way back through the respawns to the proper area) as the veteran at the very end would become invulnerable every time. Eventually I was able to wait and not get aggro and grab the vista and port out as quickly as possible.

Getting that Coalmine skillpoint was a chore as well. Respawn was crazy high.

The events in that area were pretty cringe worthy too for me. It was a pretty dead zone when I was there, not many people. And almost everything was a group event. ._.

Elite vs Utility Skills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Elementalist: Nah. My utility lineup is pretty situational, and I never feel like I wish I could have a fourth utility. Our elites are kinda weak, but I’d rather they buff those than risk all the balance issues a fourth slotted utility could cause.

I also wish I could have just one more ultility slot for my Ele. Overall, I would say you can get quite a good array with the Utility options, but if you are a staff user or want to use combos in any way you have to have arcane wave. But if I had one more utility slot it would be amazing. Right now I just run one Glyph (usually Earth), arcane wave, and arcane shield. While its a good range. I wish I could have access to a Cantrip like Cleansing Fire at all times.

Elite skills wise I think the Glyph of Elementals is okay (in pve), but not too amazing. I like it because it practically gives me a “tank” which is helpful in situations that you would normally use Elites in. The other Elite skills are not that great IMO though. Twister I only use for stability, and only used it in jumping puzzles that required stability, otherwise I find it meh. Whirlwind is okay in water though.

Outside of the pull and anchor ability I can live with the other stuff in Orr. The snares in general aren’t so bad. But definitely annoying even removing conditions it still happens very often. As in like every fight.

That said, Orr is probably the most frustrating zone I’ve experienced in a game. So many knockdowns and snares and etc, and then combine that with the amazingly fast respawn it is literally Hell in Tyria for me.

The Female Human epidemic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katreyn.4218

I think it just stands out so much because majority of the female human faces look the same. :/

I have a female human alt, though I find them rather boring, I wanted to see the other stories. As with that I have one of every race.

In MMOs and other rpgs I usually play a female. I usually like to have some kind of connection with the character. But its usually by gender. I like to experience with different perspectives so I’m not scared of being a different race.

I have nothing against playing male characters though, in most cases I tend to play males if I’m making a warrior or something, just cause, stereotypes. lol. One example, in Dragon Age Origins, when I went to play a dwarf. I could only play a male dwarf because I just couldn’t get into the female ones. /shrug To each their own.

What happened to the anti griefing policy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I can say I have experienced this in the couple times I tried to complete the battlegrounds puzzle. Most people just ignored me though on my last time through.

But it took me having wait until a odd time of day when the population in WvW is low. Like really late at night/early morning. And if that doesn’t help then it helps to have the upper hand in WvW for that week; now I know that that isn’t so easy to come by as my server is losing about 70% of the time. If all that fails, just transfer to the winning server that is doing it and try again. :/

That said, personally I feel this behavior is scumbag. But I think ANet encouraged it by making it exist in the first place. So I’m not sure if it would entirely be considered griefing as terribly annoying as it is.

Why is there no Jumping Puzzle title?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

I figured it was because they would constantly be adding more so that is just grounds for a nice way to bug out getting a title. That and people probably would rage if they couldn’t access a title because they don’t have jumping skillz. >.<

That said, at the end of the day I still enjoy doing the puzzles and getting better loot from the chests now. So I really don’t miss a title. But maybe one day we will see something from it of that sort. Does seem kinda odd to have so many achievements for jumping puzzles and no meta achievement.

They should consider adding town clothes from achievement rewards or something though.

The only example I have of this is when I recorded the Mad King cutscene in Lion’s Arch. My sound had already borked before the cutscene occured. But the cutscene literally had no sound. First 30 seconds of video shows this:

That said, some people are experiencing the bug of not getting the gifts/star even at 100% map completion. If so, then that could be your issue.

The cultural armor set prices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Honestly I think the pricing is okay. At least for end game cosmetic gear grind. You aren’t buying it for the stats at 80. There is far better stats for 2g on exotics on TP.

But as far as amassing the money for it. At 80 its not so bad. Some people are faster at getting it then others. Some got it in weeks, and people like myself got it in months, some maybe even a year or two. I think its nice to have a goal to work towards rather then just getting things I want super fast.

My method I just set a goal for 2g a day (it was a comfortable range I had in generating money, not too much time spent on it). Some days I made more if I was super lucky. But mostly did one pass through of Cursed Shore gathering all harvestables and doing DEs. I didn’t play more then 3 hrs most days. On the weekend sometimes I’d play 5 hrs and do a dungeon or two (very rarely). But I finished up my set in a little over 2 months.

I do think that the gap from Tier 2 armor to Tier 3 is quite wide. I wonder if thats where the dungeon gear is supposed to step in? But as far as money wise it is a pretty significant jump.

Overall, I think if you are concerned about the prices its something you should ignore for initial goal until you feel comfortable with the money you generate in game. Save up a gold (or even 5 silver or something, something you can spare to hoard) in your bank every day or something and eventually you may have more then you think.

Big Voice Question : Wow Headless Horseman or Madking

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

Headless Horseman wasn’t bad. It was the first boss event for a holiday (in WoW) I do believe. And I really enjoyed Halloween in WoW (was probably the first MMO I played that celebrated holidays pretty efficiently and I think it was the first holiday I experienced in WoW).

Most other MMOs I played prior to that only did like small things like collect items for a hat/costume item, etc.

But hands down, I felt that Thorn was significantly better. I enjoyed it in GW1, and this blew me away. Was so much to do and I really enjoyed it all, even the stressful bits. There was such a range of activities that I can’t wait to see the other holidays.

Character wise Thorn obviously has more personality then Headless Horseman, just because Thorn has a place in Tyria. I’m not sure, but I don’t recall if the Headless Horseman even has any lore behind him does he? Other then the old ghost tale.

The Mad King dungeon - I heard it was cool.

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

If anything is learned from this I think its that Anet may need to consider more ways to let people know about their time frames for events. Ie. Launcher (not links from launcher, even people are too lazy to click those, but actual news posting that loads directly), in-game news boards, character select news posting or something similar to Gw1.

At the end of the day, its sad you missed something like that, but sadly MMOs sometimes require you to stay “well informed” on dates and times of things. And if you can’t play because of IRL stuff, that’s fine, but it should be something you have to come to terms with, with your life. If they want to run the events a certain way they should be able to. People will ALWAYS miss stuff. kitten happens everyday that messes with peoples schedules. Missing one event for a holiday isn’t a big deal. It’ll be there next year. And there is always more events to experience at later dates.

Cheer up, should be some interesting event material coming in November so they say.

Well I learned you can use the waypoint when you get feared off before you hit the ground. Just faster way to get back, and pretty sure falling death doesn’t damage gear. I could be wrong.

But I try not to kill the scarecrows past the first and 2nd floor. First floor is walled so its pretty safe. Second floor is big enough and pretty hard to get near an edge but its still dangerous. Third floor, fear = death more then likely.

But I’ve also been feared when standing on the last ledge to jump onto the third. Someone snipes the scarecrow and you still get feared. >.<

I’d rather just deal with the crows and move out of the spot then to deal with the fear. But with a lot of attacks being aoes you can mistakenly kill a scarecrow pretty quick.

I gave majority of mine to the Quaggan Ghost. Then the Cannibal Asura kid. xD

Piwate didn’t get no candy love from me. I told the other Quaggan to share. >.>

Any event that spawns through a Haunted Door (ie. kill this foe/spider/mummy, etc) in the Labyrinth. Any of the escort Priory members in the starting areas.

As far as I know the doors in the natural world you “trick or treat” on events don’t count. As I never found a door I could properly trick or treat on after Act 3 update. So its better to just go to the Labyrinth and do those, because those definitely count.

Hope this makes some sense. >.<

Doing the events in any of the starting zones have similar events as Queensdale. You can also go through the Haunted Doors that open after you finish the events in Queensdale, etc. and go the Labyrinth (go through the portal once you reach the Mad Realm) and there are events pretty common there.

Actually just had this happen in a group where I know the leader didn’t leave. We just got booted. Was still in a group when we got out, 3 of us. Just got booted as soon as one person left.

Maybe there is something broken with instance partying in general?
