damage output TOO HIGH!

I admit that stuff hits hard, especially at SSC. Honestly I think SSC might need to be toned down a bit (still on the edge of this, some days I feel the difficulty is fine but then another day I get that ’can’t kill anything’ day). But I don’t really have much trouble there on my Ele. Reflect is obviously a huge role in my survival honestly. That and trying to stay as far away as I can from the lizards and stuff. SSC will really teach you to be on your toes for sure.

Personally I use a couple pieces of PVT gear and Berserkers in the high stat spots with some celestials thrown in there for decent measure and seem to do ok. My damage isn’t as high as others but I can still kill stuff before it kills. I will admit there will probably be zero difference in my survival if I went full berserkers but I like my current setup.

But there is nothing you can do about bad timing and getting overrun by large groups of enemies. Especially enemies that take away half your health in a hit. Other then being fully aware and trying your best to stay alive.

Of course the events are totally crazy out of hand at times. It’s kind of amusing to watch large groups of people get wasted from a wall of baby karka. But it does almost seem like there is no chance if everyone isn’t prepared for it.

Anywhere outside of SSC you can literally about face tank most stuff and get away with standing in an AoE or two excluding a few bosses and things.

New backpiece and helmet

I forsee a lot of wings in the future. They look cool, just not my thing. I’ll surely keep them for something…maybe my guardian or something.

The helmet is a pretty neat skin, nice to see some new armor skins slowly coming in.

The jade weapons though, from what I seen look pretty awesome. They have to be good though, cause jade is always awesome. :P Might be the first weapon skin that I consider getting if possible.

Really can’t wait for this “holiday” though. Really missed them and will bring some fun stuff to do.

The lack of mini paper mache dragons is significant though. Then again that might be a gem store mini set for the holiday. lol

Each class trait changes Confirmed

While I have learned to love 30 in Arcane and swapping like crazy and will probably keep it (for other arcane benefits – if they make more arcane traits viable) if it still proves worthy after these changes apply.

It does feel like a lot of the trait lines, not just in Ele, but in general work against each other more then with each other as they should be.

Heres to hoping. Change is scary but I admit it is highly needed on a lot of classes.

With this game I’ve never felt that taking any certain class or not taking them would be at a disadvantage. Sure some classes might make certain bosses or paths easier but they are not impossible usually.

I have a pretty high tolerance for the crap people can pull but only if they start becoming extremely negative towards the rest of the party is it actually an issue imo. Bad players or whatever isn’t really an issue to me. I’ve played a lot of dungeons where people die almost every pull but are enjoying themselves (it wasn’t really hurting our party just their repair bill) so I never said anything lol.

I hope all of you don’t mind, but I’ve added you to my priority help list for this dungeon. Please feel free to PM my character Master Saber, whenever you are willing to do this dungeon. I’ll be available for runs first thing tomorrow morning at 8am PST.

I appreciate the offer but it wasn’t needed. I have been able to do the dungeon for quite a while, my first group just had issues with it at first as most people. Nothing we couldn’t figure out.

I was just adding my conjecture to the topic at hand. It is very nice of you to offer to help people with issues though. A lot of others need it.

Subdirector NULL Issues

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I’m pretty sure the 4th issue was the main reason I probably caused my party to fail the first time we did the dungeon. I summoned my elemental when he was in h is last like 20% and the elemental lasted a long time (tanky earth). So when it came time to bust his last shield I couldn’t get rid of my Elemental and we ended up not being able to take the stacks of electricity. I felt bad.

But honestly that is just a problem with summons in general as opposed to anything else. Having no control over summon aggro can be an issue. Though they have addressed them at least aggroing everything in the world in the area. But to be able to maybe cancel them or something (using cooldown of course) would be nice.

Second time we did the same thing as the first time and I just didn’t use an elemental and all went dandy. Not sure if I’d blame the boss mechanics as much as my bad timing and odd skill mechanics. Either way both don’t work well together.

Katreyn.4218

I don’t think telling part of the story outside the game is a good idea. All the clues should be in the game.

I’ve seen cutscenes, books, npc dialogue but without a record of that information in the hero panel. It’s hard to remember the details of the story.

That actually brings up a really cool idea (that I’m sure you’ve thought of). To use the players story panel and maybe make sub panels for the living story events we participate(d) in. To look back on in the future. The achievement system loosely serves as this purpose but it’d be nice to have a bit more in-depth history remembered in game.

I know the personal story panels aren’t up entirely to par in their current state. Some are still unfinished even. Well its only one and I can’t recall what one it is but it just ends mid-sentence. But I look at it quite often when bored. xD I like the whole mementos idea that are like pasted into it as well. It would be nice to see more of it in the future.

Either that or add a quest/journal log. :x Which would function as the same thing pretty much.

I appreciate hearing Mr. Stein’s feedback and that they are truly trying out how to best go about their storytelling. I totally understand the process and your idea of finding the most efficient way to go about it in this game. So good luck in that endeavor as always.

You are right though. Those phases did exist before the initial patch. Dulfy’s original guide for the fight even stated all those phases, etc.

I will admit it did make more interesting. But it was a mess for my group. xD But after the patch you can literally keep him in the same spot and only kite him to the explodable mines while ignoring the healing turrets and everything. Definitely two ends of the spectrum though, I wonder why they decided to get rid of the other phases.

Katreyn.4218

I dunno. Has there been an MMO that has offered permadeath? I guess I should clarify something more then online versions of dungeon crawlers like Diablo and Path of Exile, but something like WoW or GW2 that offers so much to die to and greatly more to risk.

I think most people would be against it just for the whole, I spent like 900 hrs on this character and now they died due to lag, stupid monster mechanics, etc. You know, the usual.

I have had a few friends that did play WoW that way and some other older MMOs. They would delete their character when they died. This was also the same friends who would get high or something on the weekends and magically get a character to max level over the course of two days (their reasoning behind how it happened not me) and not remember a thing. But it takes a lot of self discipline or restraint to allow yourself to manually delete a character rather then the game doing it for you.

It’d be interesting to see it put into a game such as this though, but it really always seems like a unpopular option (I love playing hardcore in dungeon crawlers though but not something I would enjoy here personally). It would always generate activity instead of people being constantly plunged into high end content. A lot of MMOs have struggled with trying to deal with that problem, maybe this is the answer. Who knows. Up to someone to take the risk.

I’d like to see them implement the blog posts they write to add the story. People don’t look outside of the game for answers to lore or story very often. Usually it is only the die hards that do this. Even if you just put it in as a book or on some kind of billboard that players can click on and read in game. But of course what I’d love to see is these stories make it into cutscenes.

But I understand they cannot because of the time frames the teams work with. Personally I’d take seeing new content less often to just see them be able to complete the premise they want to get across.

I think the Southsun story struggles because if you were not around for the Lost Shore event you don’t fully understand the entire story behind this story. And that leads to people coming here going “wtf is going on, who is this guy” or people just not even caring.

I will agree that F+F had better general story explanation thrown at you. You inititally had the mail to get it started (you get that here as well). Then the event dialogue that persists throughout the in-game time that explains it very loosely. Then you have to wait for npcs to queue up their conversations in game. While I personally have nothing against it as I am used to looking up backstories for lore and things and I enjoy it.

But I’d love to see them able to put more time into these stories. They obviously want to make a decent story, but it feels like they don’t have the ability to add it all when they want it.

Sorry if that ramble made no sense. TLDR; I agree with the OP.

I have to agree. I don’t see how melee characters can play and survive in some of the big events with all the spells going off (I throw some heals in that area all the time cause I know people are probably hurting).

But I am surprised they haven’t done something like a command to disable effects or tame them down with a slider. You can still see AoEs circles to avoid them and animations. But it does get very hectic with all the flashy spells.

Its definitely more noticeable. Can’t say if I like it more or not, but I don’t mind it. I will agree it looks a bit more “polished” for lack of term as opposed to just the red circle that really looked out of place. But most games I’ve seen lately that has the “dodge the red ring” looks pretty bland.

I sometimes swear it disappears a lot quicker now then the circles before but it may just be the flicker messing with me.

I dunno my group kept getting owned at the enrage electrocute mechanic at 1% he’d shield and you’d have electrocute which really hurt our group. But I find ele combo, kiting, and attunement swapping super easy.

The unlimited sickle is disappointing

I do find it strange and wonder if they will change it eventually. But the original sickle animation is very short in comparison I wonder if they felt they had to change it to make the new animation even worth it (bad idea if so). I like the water/flower animations but the pick sound and animation is very disappointing.

When I first used it I thought something was bugged with it, similar to what happens when sometimes you see other players using picks on trees and axes on mining nodes. Which seems very likely to me.

Katreyn.4218

I always liked in iRO (Ragnarok Online) you could marry another player. With some benefits such as summoning them to you and giving them health or mana, eventually you could adopt and have mini characters with limitations, etc. It worked with the game. I know some games have pursued marriage aswell (can’t really recall any though, I want to think Rift did it but I’m not sure if that was real) but it always kind of cool, even if you didn’t have a significant other to play with you could always marry your leveling partner or something. xD Course once they put in something like that then you have to take a stance on same-sex marriage and the like so thats why its usually heavily avoided I imagine.

And there is my nostalgia trip for the day. :P

I dunno though, as much as I enjoyed it in iRO I don’t really miss it. You can always roleplay it. Housing would be nice (though I rarely used it in other games), but you can also roleplay that as well. /shrug

But congratulations on the twins and hope everything goes well in that department. Waiting for babies goes by so fast.

All stats Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katreyn.4218

Katreyn.4218

I think they work pretty good on an Elementalist. One of the few classes that use a lot of the stats. Yes its not as good as getting multiple sets to pertain to every scenario if you are min/maxing. But since they only exist for accessory/jewelry slots I think they don’t hinder a all-around player that much.

As for a guardian I don’t think its a totally bad choice. I don’t know much about guardians but I’ve heard of a few who praise celestial stats for them as well.

I don’t think I’d ever roll Celestial gear/runes. But as accessories I say they can be plausible at least. But if you use it in everything then I think it really starts to hurt you.

Solo Dungeon?

in Last Stand at Southsun

Katreyn.4218

I say the more options the better. Since it is probably a one time story we may never see again. To make the most of it should at least let people see it if they can. I know its not too hard to get a group for holiday/special content. But people have their reasons for not wanting to do dungeons in an MMO. I see no reason to complain over it, you get both pieces of the cake in this scenario. /shrug

I think having a solo mission and a harder group dungeon is a great idea. But I am thinking the “great threat” will be open world rather then tucked away in the harder dungeon version. Just by the way it sounds to me. Similar to the Ancient one we fought way back when, only not taking 3 hours and happening repeatedly throughout a couple of days.

Is there time when the event will start or its going to repeat for the whole day of 28th?

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/may-28-2013/

In particular:

<i>"A Monstrous Threat

Even if you manage to capture Canach, can you also foil his master plan? Defend the new settlers on Southsun Cove from a massive final onslaught of rampaging wildlife or die trying! And beginning June 5, a hulking monstrosity joins the fray—without your help, it will destroy the settlers and everything they’ve built! </i>

Don’t think that it will all be available on May 28th by the sounds of the June 5 reference (think we can assume its the Queen to which the achievement is linked).

So yeah, I doubt you’re looking at a blink and you miss it event on the 28th.

In another thread they said that Canachs instance was going to be a 1 player instance and then by completing that you unlock a harder multi player instance, so i’m assuming that Karka is going to be the 5man version of that instance.

I’m thinking the Karka is going to be moreso a world event boss (that will happen multiple times of course). At least thats the only thing I can see as being part of the “finale.”

I really love the Scarlet red contrast. I agree that contrasting seems to be the best way to go rather then trying to match it completely. Because unless you build an entirely new character (or buy some dyes) the chance is pretty slim.

I really like the default white/yellowish flower though.

I think it goes pretty decent with my default color scheme (grass and fern color mostly). Its not amazingly compatible but it kinda feels like a new bud/flower that has grown out of an old plant or something. My Sylvari kind of went for the full on green look (cause green is amazing) so luckily it seems to work quite easily with it by default since there is no serious contrasting petal/leaf color. The default green, on the stem, is still obviously brighter then the tier 3 will allow you to dye though.

Odd can’t attach more then one screenshot at a time. O.o Added another in an edit. It’ll show up eventually.

I’ve seen a lot of great Necros with the Sclerite though. It doesn’t really go with my Necro whos got the whole dead bird theme going on from halloween still.

I think it may just be referring to the supply crates. At least that would make the most sense to even be mentioned. If it was the usual boss chest after an event I don’t think they’d mention it as a feature.

But then they mention other chests, so thats probably the new events chests spawns.

They do mention the unique rings and amulets from the second half of the event. But imagine that will be drops from the “dungeon” chest or rewards for completing.

I usually either look up information or any helpful tips for the games and read about the classes, etc. So I know what to expect when I load it up. If I don’t need to do any of that Minesweeper is pretty nice (its usually not a long wait for me).

If its hours, I usually go find a tv series to watch or a good movie. I’ve found reading while being impatient for a game can be tough sometimes, but a good book can work too. :P

I like them. They can be frustrating at times but eventually you get them. One of the few things I can feel pretty happy about completing.

I really was a little concerned about the jumping puzzles at first cause the Datacrons in SWTOR drove me up the wall. Though I eventually got all those too, I just hated it because it felt like it didn’t fit the game, in terms of the way your character moved and reacted. At least in GW2 I find it more fluid and a lot easier to manage. And it was even more crap in SWTOR cause it was the only way to get the stat bonuses and the special accessory. Though I guess you could do without it.

I can’t say I’m good at platforming games. But I enjoy playing them. I die a lot but I still enjoy them. And my reflexes are absolutely trash.

To each their own really. You aren’t missing out on too much if you don’t want to do the JPs anymore. Other then achievements and for monthly/dailies. And the occasional holiday event. Even in the current LS sample achievements you can totally avoid collecting the JP sample if you want. If you aren’t enjoying it I would never force myself to complete it.

I did find it a bit weird there wasn’t one there. Especially since it seems to be a resort/camp area. But even if there was a waypoint I imagine 90% of the event it would be contested. Like the two shore waypoints are permanently contested on my server even though no events.

Backpiece clipping

That clipping isn’t as bad as some I have seen. It looks manageable at least. Seems Sylvari male at least has more issues with the censer clipping then others.

For instance tier 3 light male clips really bad (more so the shoulders clip). Same armor on female doesn’t clip at all.

Clipping is annoying but I dunno if they can truly avoid it all the time. Its really a shame when you find something you like and it clips really bad with other pieces and items.

Is that a new armor set??

Yeah her armor is of interest. Not to mention her hair.

Sadly both seem to be specific to her npc like some of the other interesting npc armors (ahem, that mesmer lady in the human storys outfit)

How do you feel about Southsun now?

I like the added events and just the general population increase. It is definitely a nice change of scenery. And I’m interested to see where the story will go. I always enjoy new in-game events and something new to do.

Sadly I don’t think it will make anything better with the place when the event is done. Some of the enemies still take excessively long to kill as compared to just going to Orr for tier 6 mats. Even with the increased drop rate Orr yields better results just because of the kill : time ratio for me.
