Someone said MMOs dont launch with dungeon matchmakers at launch. Defiance did.
Some do, but the general rule lately is that most MMOs don’t have one at launch and add them months later (Rift added it 2 months later, so did TSW IIRC, TOR added it at about 6 months or so).
That said, GW2 is still taking longer than other MMOs to add one unless you count RIFT’s original release, since while it did have a LFG tool addded for the north american release, it didn’t have one until then and the original release in asian countries was over a year earlier. Probably they’re taking their time with it considering there are also other priorities, and there is a working alternative in place (the website).
GW2 has had a LFG since launch, open your contact list and click on the second tab. It’s just crappy to the point of useless. :P
Could have been made so much more useful just with one more field.
I’m kinda in the same boat. I’m lvl 80, but for me the problem is not just what to do, but knowing that that thing even exists.
I mean a game without quests makes it really hard to know what to do next. Since levelling, for the most part, is done, now what?I’ve heard of fractals and dungeons, but never seen anyone lfg (am I looking in the wrong place?).
I’ve read a few things that say I could grind for gear, but none of them say if its worth it or what I’d use this better gear for.
So yea. I end up just doing dailies and exploring.I’m also sitting at 1g and not sure how to grind more (effectively). Is getting 20s out of the trading post really THAT big a deal (not that I’ve ever managed to do that)?
People do LFG for dungeons but except for a couple of weirdos they only do it on the map with the dungeon entrances. The rest will use gw2lfg.com.
As for grinding for gear that depends. Some people want them for the different skin/appearance. Other people want different stats for different builds. I have a 3 armor sets and several weapon sets on my warrior for different situations. Same on thief and elementalist(although fewer sets on each than warrior).
Getting 20s out of the TP is not a big deal. You can get that much just from running around and harvesting whatever you come across and selling them. The guaranteed rare from the megabosses is basically a guaranteed 20s as well if you sell it. Did you mean 20g?
… on the other hand the most popular way to grind for gold right now is the Citadel of Flame dungeon. A speed run can apparently go as fast as 8minutes which will get you 26s along with anything else that might drop. You also get 60 token per path per character(there is some DR to be aware of). The tokens can be used to get exotic gear or you can get two rares that can be salvaged for up to 3 ectos each. That is a potential profit of around 1g22s. For a non-speedrun 15minutes should still be sufficient but will vary depending on the group.

Ranger IS horrible.
Even the devs know that, just look around in threads.
Anet defenders like the 2 above me will try to tell you otherwise.
“Ohhhh ranger is so great just l2p lol!”
No, it’s not. Just play warrior for pve or mesmer/thief for wvw. You don’t need any other class for anything else.
The content in this game is doable with 1-2 classes.
Well it IS “good enough”, just doesn’t seem to be “as good as others” although I can’t say I’ve tried out all that many builds yet or even theorycrafted all that many ranger builds. Right now the pet just doesn’t feel like it has a very good ROI. On the other hand Mesmer clones/illusions/phantasms are pretty much always useful and when they aren’t, shredding them is easier than pulling a pet off of things.
Things are pretty much always cheaper if you buy it later than at release(except my mouse which has doubled in price but it’s also discontinued). They’ve also had things like character slots and bank slots on sale which IS targeted at current players. Might have had the DD on sale too, memory is a bit fuzzy.
This is obviously about the lifesteal food. Other on-crit food (chill would result in infinite kiting, might is self explanatory) would be extremely OP if internal cooldowns aren’t present. Lifesteal food gave glass cannon warriors the survivability of a guardian while being glass cannon.
The reason you’re not having fun in dungeons after the nerf is because you continue to insist on running glass cannon and expecting the survivability of a tank. Just put 3 pieces of soldier armor on yourself, or even knights. Warriors are strong enough as they are in PvE. They don’t need to be stronger.
I played Knights, and I agree I don’t wanna go back to that. That is why i’m saying to change it to capping it to three to four times a second.
Are you sure you want to say three or four times a second there? That seems faster than what people can actually attack in most instances. Anywho, I’m pretty sure they won’t change it back. Used to run lifesteal on crit on my ranger and that toon just couldn’t die, was nice, but a tad OP.
That is not quite true. You can hit 5 targets in one swing and the single target weapons have high enough attack speed to hit that many time. However at 4/s it still translates into 1,300 HP/s of healing AND an additional 1,300 damage/s. It would still be in the OP category even if you removed the 1,300 additional DPS if you consider how much healing sources provide.
One thing that does have me perplexed though, is the low price on vials of powerful blood. Ive tried all the known farming spots, Trolls, all bags, Southsun skelk and Southsun Karkas and I just find the price on these is quite low. I am actually targetting these right now because of a few things I want and it seems as though I can’t get more than about 2 an hour, 4 if Im really lucky. Meanwhile I can easily farm 80-100 potent an hour which seems like a better option to farm and sell these but I kind of wanted to work towards farming the right materials
I blame Claw of Jormag.
Many people end up killing the arctodus near it while waiting for it to spawn or on their way to the gathering nodes. Also for me the t5 blood seems to drop a lot more often than the other t5 fine materials, maybe some people are converting the t5 to t6? On the other hand I don’t spend much time in Orr so the drops for me might be skewed because of where I tend to hang out.
Right click on the name then Remove Friend works for me. Do not trying to do this in WvW.
are you sure its gw2 and not gw? i never played gw so i wouldnt be able to tell you :x
GW1 doesn’t have traits.
You can start allocating trait points as soon as you have them unlocked. You won’t get the adept minor and major traits until you have 5 or 10 allocated but you don’t need to wait until you have 5 points to start allocating.
There has been various posts about being unable to unlock traits but I haven’t seen any sort of resolution for them.
According to the wiki the bug is only in the infused versions. Based on the evidence from the uninfused versions and an the stats on amulets and accessories it should be Power and Precision instead of Toughness and Vitality
Nope … got 2x anicent wood and 1 ori in frostgorge on 3 different characters so far. Haven’t bothered searching for the other ori. Of course all of this is different on each server …
Hmm just checked http://gw2nodes.com/index.php looks like someone has found that 2nd node for me
Those scope change my playstyle.I used to do thief condition build but when they made monthly with them I have to change to use shadow step , cloak and dagger build. Some time if there are any cover I just pelt them away with dual pistol
Those mobs pop-up from event are really nasty as well.consider that you got spammed with long time knockback every 3 second.Soloing this scope with a summon or a pet is a must.
or just pull them out of periscope range, kill them then finish off the scope.
I have no idea why they thought placing these in starter zones was a good idea. I mean, they’re merely annoying for a level 80 who knows how to dodge/use stability. But for a new player who’s just going into the open world on his first character, still learning the basics, and getting chain knock-back’d over again by these things must be plain frustrating. I know I’d hate it.
That part is actually fairly obvious. They wanted everyone to be able to access the content. The blowout was a bad decision but that is why the scopes themselves are in the lower zones. The placement of some of those scopes are also a bit questionable. Having one right next to what is probably going to be the first DE for many new Charr was probably not a good idea.

Hit 80 on my Necromancer and Im now at a loss for what to do on it. I already have full CoF armor, and two exotic weapons (Coldsnap, and Final Rest.). I have nothing to work for anymore, especially since their are no legendaries that really suit a necromancer. I would run fractals but every group I get is just plain stupid, like no brains whatsoever. “WHAT DO U MEAN I CANT MELEE JELLYFISH?” Like god why.
Is there anything I could do thats fun? Or should I just make an alt? And if I do make an alt should I roll a ranger or a guardian? (Looking for fun here, I dont care if elitist groups will take me or not.)
Not sure if it’s just because I’ve only done fractal 1 so far or that I’m just a kitten tank… but um… I melee’d the jellyfish with no problem and minimal life loss. o.O
Heh 1 is not a very good representation of that fight. You are also supposed to use the electrified cages for the fight but when we did it for the first time brute forcing through it wasn’t that bad either.
The problem with meleeing the boss is not because it’s dangerous to do so but greatly increases your chance of being eaten. When you get eaten it becomes immune to damage which makes the fight longer than it needs to be.
All classes can solo as well as in a group.
Some classes have a MUCH harder time than others.
For example, as a warrior or guardian, you can faceroll mobs higher level than you in blues and a greatsword.
Meanwhile the Mesmer requires GrandMaster Traits before it becomes strong.
Of the classes you selected I’d say go with Ele.
Heh really? I must be doing something wrong. My mesmer seems to be doing fine with greens and I haven’t bothered to unlock grandmaster traits yet. Now ranger on the other hand …
Just make sure you friend gets on the correct EU server.
There is still a 7 day waiting period between transfers although with guesting that shouldn’t be too big of a deal …
ya i thought so… unfortunately being on blackgate and in t1 means ill never have access to green and rarely to blue sides of the map…
They will be unlinking the colors from the ranks. Well unless it turns out to be undoable. You can check DevonCarver’s posts for more details but this should go away in a while, maybe as soon as the upcoming patch.
No there will not be any as the game has no content that needs it, So they say anyway again your merc would take a slot on a map from another play so no i don’t see it working out. Would be nice to have at least 1 for each player tho.
They are completely unnecessary for open world maps. If someone really wants to drag an “AI” around there is necromancer and ranger. They should probably visit the respective forums to find just how stupid those AI are …
For dungeons many of the paths have mechanics that heroes would not be able to handle. Same thing with fractals.
Do they plan to? Yes.
Does anyone know when? No.
That aside, if people are in your party then culling should not affect them since the game always knows about the locations of party members.
Of course! Those minis aren’t going to get themselves into my bank.
You could also get 2 characters through the personal story. That will get you 2800 Influence(from the letters) which should be enough for the 50 slot guild bank.
They are probably random because they don’t people making throwaway characters to get guaranteed Ori stacks. 120 Orichalcum Ore would be pretty tempting.
As for Black Lion Keys, those can get gotten from any map not just low level ones. They replace the transmutation stones.
The highest level zones will reward exotics for map completion but none of it seems to be lv80 exotics. On the other hand … if you think 40 logs is bad wait until you get 20 lemongrass.
I would probably hold off on that until the patch. They are still working on giving each unique skin its own icon.
The other way is to use a Transmutation Crystal. You can pick both the look and stats of your existing item and take the rune from the karma item. At current exchange rate that is about 95s + 42,000 karma per rune.
But yes, great move to reduce/remove the knockback. Many times I found half destroyed scopes with a full compliment of Moltens around it because people had given up.
One of the problems with these things is that if someone left the molten mobs undefeated and you came along and got rid of them, they’d respawn again within seconds. It obviously wasn’t taking account of the fact that you’d just spent the last ten minutes taking one lot down…
It is annoying to have to clean up other people’s mess but 10 minutes? O_o
I hope you haven’t been trying to fight them next to the scope …
Well that is REALLY one of those ‘have to try it first thing’. Death Shroud is one of my least favorite class mechanics. It’s fighting for last with ranger pets.
Using it feels awkward but it does live up to its name. While in DS you can’t die, at worse you end up leaving DS.
Elementalist? Well I have two elementalist …
Edit: Go with the necro instead.
As much as I <3 my elementalist, an engineer can do the same but better when compared to a staff elementalist. D/D is fun but feels lacking in the CC department. Never really liked scepter and focus has some nice defensive skills but I never felt a need to be that defensive either.
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
None of the classes are hard to level as far as getting exp is concerned. The only thing that would make a class “hard to level” is if you do not find the class to be be enjoyable and the only sure way to know that is to play it.
The biggest problem with “play it to see if you like it” is that it can take many levels to figure that out. It took me until lv80 and then some to figure the right setup that made me really like engineer.
Alternatively you can always take my approach. One of everything(and maybe two elementalists …)!
Why didn’t you just ask the other guy? :P
Anyway I can see how that can be the case. Lets say your bleed duration is so long that you can effectively have 30 stacks of bleeds but because of the 25 cap 5 are going to waste. In that situation you could(and probably should) get rid of some duration and increase your condition damage. Few stacks but more damage per stack.
The 23-24 stack thing would just be a simple method to know that you aren’t wasting any stacks. You could probably calculate the optimal balance of duration and damage to stay at 25 stacks without wasting anything but that would require more work.
I’m generally fine with glowy stuff, but I’m not keen on the fractal back item. It’s a pity back items aren’t set to go into show-off mode exclusively when in combat, like most of the sparklier weapons.
Those splodges some Legendary weapons leave behind look a bit horrid, too. Not sure what ANet were thinking with those.
“Skritts will be out biggest customers!”?
I am still trying to figure out why people are rushing to get their legendary weapons? Whats the point in rushing to get it and farm farm farm when you could be doing something fun?
Inflation. It take like 300 hours to farm a legendary now. If you tried it a few month ago, it’ll take half the time.
farming nerf. You see what they did to CS, Cof probably getting hit next.
That being said, scavenge hunt might make it easier to get legendary if it is ever implemented.
You can’t perdict the future.
Could also make things worse. Once everyone thinks a legendary is within reach, stuff like lodestones could become even more expensive simply due to demand.
Honestly, I prefer the Chinese version of the female warrior, so I wouldn’t mind the placeholder variants being available as well.
That is just the chest, shoulders, gloves, shoes from the barbaric set plus the pants from the banded set.
The way that is is worded pretty much implies they won’t be around once the dye packs are no longer on sale.
I was going to but then I asked myself “how long would it take to get back the 26g?”. Answer was “not that long, just spend the gold”. Besides at 80 once you are all decked out in whatever gear you want, what else is there to do with gold?
Lets see. Gold -> Gem ratio.
3/26 patch: 21434 C pre-spike, 24990 C post-spike.
Absolute delta: 3556C
Percentage delta: 16.6 %Mining Pick: 23629 C pre-spike, 30821 post-spike.
Absolute delta: 7192
Percentage delta: 30.4%No definitive conclusion of course. The only conclusion which can be drawn is that more people converted Gold -> Gems for the mining pick as opposed to Fused Skins.
On top of that, the difference can’t be solely attributed to random vs non random acquisition methods. Mining Pick has a very clear convenience function, while Fused Skins didn’t.
Still, I do want to hope this persuades Anet somewhat on more guaranteed event items in the future.
I just want the sickle and chainsaw(NOT axe!) equivalent of the pick.
Maybe a new build has been popularized?
In any event they’re not hard to get: 42k kharma. Throw in a black lion kit if you want to pop them out for sale.
Are you sure those are salvageable? Other karma gear aren’t.
Actually, I’d like to do some super rough calculations on how big the exchange spikes were, to get a super rough idea on the popularity of the two.
But does anyone remember the day when the Fused skins went on “sale?”
They arrived with the 3/26 patch.
The area to “grab” for moving the mini map is the right edge while the resize corners are on the left. You are attempting to drag the wrong edge of the mini map.
Anecdotally, people are way, way more excited about the picks than about the fused weapons. I didn’t even know you could get skins for the chests for days after they came out, let alone what those skins were. I still don’t know what fused stuff looks like.
I heard about the pick almost as soon as it popped into the gem store, and whenever there’s a group in map chat the picks get brought up. Some people like them and some don’t, but it’s caused significant in-game chatter and that’s basically free advertising at the point where it will do the most good (i.e., when people have immediate access to the gem store).
That plus the immediate conversion spike make me think the pick is much more popular than chests. It’s not the dye packs – we’ve had random, limited dye packs before, and they haven’t caused this big of a spike, or this much map chatter.
Those were different colors!
On a more serious note … the fused skins involves risk, it is unlikely but not impossible for you to open a million chests and not get a single skin(at least it is not a double RNG). The pick is guaranteed. Some people will like the skins and some people won’t. Who doesn’t have a need for mining picks?
Meh … I am all for more armor sets but it looks like whoever is porting the Chinese version just found the eraser tool in their favorite image editor. “Details? Can’t have that! Ooooh look! Bucket fill!!!”
I know there are a lot of people who have lost something, there didn’t seem to be any issues last night. But I’m just concerned with the fact that it happened 3 nights in a row and there has never been a developer post in regards to the issue.
You should probably add the server you are on and the maps this has happened on.
The wiki here
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats
states that there is a Traveler’s back slot item. I cannot find the name of it or where to get it or any other information at all relating to it. Looked through the TP and couldn’t find anything, thanks anet for not putting in a back slot search filter. As a necro, traveler’s is the ideal stat combo for when I’m soloing and I want a bit of extra magic find. Any help would be much appreciated.
The name of the item is listed on that page. It’s http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ghost_Eater%27s_Hide
It drops from Ascalonian Catacombs but it is Account Bound and then Soulbound on Use so you will never see it on the TP.
I’m wondering about one thing though. If the precursor is soulbound, won’t the legendary made also be?
The item system here doesn’t really work that way. In fact you can do a similar thing with uninfused ascended items. If you have an uninfused ascended item that you don’t want to use anymore you can infuse it and it becomes account bound again and you can equip it on a different character.
It is referring to the fact that one will overwrite the other. If you are using a tuning crystal already and then drink a potion, the potion’s effect will replace the tuning crystal.
The price of gems went through the roof when they introdcued two new dye packs and the molten pick. All three items are limited things, so they will be removed from the store later on again and very lickely making the price of gems drop again.
There are three buts.
a: there is a different reason for the increase.
b: Anet decide to change the hot item (very likely the molten pick) to a permanent.edition for the simple reason it is very populair and therefor profitable.
c: right after the pick they add a molten sicle or molten axe.So is it now a good time: No!
Will there be better times: maybe!
Molten Axe would be disappointing. Should be a molten chainsaw! That would definitely send prices through the roof ….
So … good time to be making money from these?
Also forgot to mention, achievement is a bit buggy. Did the event with a friend a while back, I got the achievement but he didn’t even though we both got gold for the event. Try to stay near her when she dies and preferably alive.
You do not get the buff during the current match after a transfer and possibly the match after that as well.
It also does not apply when you are in Overflow or guesting on another server even if you have never transfered.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/gem probably better now than later but it might go back down a bit in a week or two … unless some other useful thing gets released then you’ll probably regret not buying the gems earlier.
You could solo it, her health doesn’t reset.
It is one of the more complicated events to get started. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Campaign_Against_Taidha_Covington lists the requirements
