This never really occurred to me as a possible issue but after reading https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/How-to-turn-with-the-mouse
Make sure you are also using the mouse to turn rather than keyboard.
You also need to make sure you’ve opened all the chests for map completion in all maps. I have no idea why anyone would leave one of those lying around but apparently some people do.
Simplest workaround would be just avoiding Tequatl and maybe Shatterer(although this should be fine if you use the slightly farther WP to the west). The other 18 events are not next to a WP.
Maybe a.net adds stuff like inaccessible nodes just to be able to identify hackers easier.
I think this is a pretty smart idea if it is intentional
I hope not! I’ve seen an underground ori node before. I was very disappointed.
Khisanth.2948 – I guess Anet’s priority is super low on world completion. Thanks for the post, and I’m actually much happier knowing that one of Anet’s staff think that it shouldn’t be in WvW. Hopefully 6 months down the road this is finally fixed.
I would make it low too … not like it means much. Only thing that actually requires it is a Legendary and we all know the issues with that already.
I’m an avid gatherer, I keep track of timers so I can make the most of gathering everything right when it respawns, Omnom’s are 6 hours respawns.
hmmmm, with all do respect, you are also asking questions bout how to farm tier 6 materials in another thread. So calling yourself an avid gatherer might be a too bold statement. Besides that you go against the statement on the offcial wiki and that of established players like Bri.
I’m NOT saying your wrong but it’s hard to swallow it as a fact when other sources are disagreeing with you. So can you please explain more of your testing methods. Best offcourse would be a few sets of screenshots with the servertime showing on the map (3 sets of 2 pictures would do).
If your right this is imo revolutionary and important to be changed and added on the wiki.
There was a point to not letting everyone know about the actual spawn time… And that was to make bots less efficient. If they do little to no research and follow the wiki, they are possibly losing out on controlling or manipulating things. But now it is all over this thread, so be ready for a patch. Things are hard enough to get as is…
It would be extremely easy for a bot to track the respawn time. Much easier than a normal player. It just has to record the time each time it gathers.
Hovering your cursor over the desired achievement on the tracker on the side of the screen will display the total amount required.
It really should have required only 50 though.
You can always check the total by clicking the check box and hovering over the achievement completion tracker in the upper right corner as well.
According to the screenshot it was started 2 days ago. The unlock takes 3 days. Unless you are showing us a screenshot from yesterday for some reason then it has not finished yet.
the day anet decides to add a true dungeon that is half challenging is the day we “may” see something with over 5 players.
well if I’m correct the new dungeon coming out from the flames and frost has it set to where its extremely difficult to skip content. it was stated that it would be more of a challenge.
Unskippable just means a higher minimum time requirement. Not necessarily more challenging. I do wonder how much of that challenge will come in the form of ‘you must dodge everything because everything kills in one hit’ or their favorite so far ‘cover everything in red circles’.
There are mystic forge recipes that use items bought with skill points.
Could always wait to see if they decide to fix the dust situation. Just 6 more days away.
But chances are you won’t be fighting Jade Quarry forever.
As a citizen of Blackgate, I’ve seen nothing but Jade Quarry for weeks and months on end. And they’ve always – always – got a group of people camping Obsidian Sanctum. That jumping puzzle looks hard enough without the Gank Squad waiting to troll me.
To TC, this topic has been broached many, many times and the answer from ANet is always the same…silence. In that silence I think it’s fair to read “no changes are planned.”
That is not actually true.
http://dragonseason.com/Front/tabid/124/EntryId/211/Lunch-with-Colin-Johanson-Part-II.aspx
What are your thoughts on the PvE aspect of WvW, including jumping puzzles and world completion?
Colin: For the jumping puzzle, I would prefer that they not be in the WvW map and it’s a separate thing. Especially when there’s a queue like that and people are trying to get in. It disconnects players from the content that they are trying to play. How we answer that is going to be interesting. There’s a lot of different ways that we can separate that out, but in long run it’s very unlikely that that will stay in the WvW map where it’s eating up population queue. We’ll go somewhere else and we’ll have to figure out the best way to do that. “World Complete” is an interesting one. We’ve seen from our data metrics, that because [WvW] is on “World Complete”, there’s a bunch of people who play WvW because it takes them there to actually get to know it and they end up having so much fun, that they stay.
I don’t think any JP should have a bonus chest. They’d be too easy to farm, especially since they’re static and you can just leave a character there, wait for daily reset, and loot the chest without actually doing anything (at least for some of them… might be impossible for hidden garden and griffonnook since you need something special to open the chest).
Just make the bonus chest require something that’s far enough back in the JP that they’d have to do the JP to get it.
Further than the chest for the JP itself? O_o
Anyway … JPs already have their own chest rewards and the JP itself should be considered its own reward. Same with the mini dungeons.
Considering even the Ulgoth (whose chain I farm for supply bags) gives a rare chest even though his chain is a lot easier to do with few people then the Megadestroyer’s looooong chain, its a bit rediculous.
For that matter, the Naegling giant needs looking at, reward wise. Its a long fight with no lootable mob filled followup quest like Kol, in a more difficult environment (buildings force you into stomp range often just to get a firing angle) and can result in multiple deaths. It could use a guaranteed green at least! 1s20c and 150 karma just doesn’t cut it.
Megadestroyer only needs 3 and that is just because of the segment where you have to keep the 3 asura alive.
I generally pick up the loot before the chests fully render. :P
Heh … I just thought they left out the bonus chest from Megadestroyer because the drops from the spawns pretty much make up for it. Although that does depend on the price of Large Claws and attacks that will just tag everything (Warrior with Hammer and Engineer with Grenade Kit for me).
It did seem strange that the much easier golem boss has one.
Given how you described it. Getting fixed is a no brainer. It also makes it obvious that something unintended is being exploited. Whether it’s a punishable exploit and whether or not anything will be done with the accounts would depend on whether they can easily identify the accounts involved(and separate them from the people just trying to do the event normally) and how big of an impact it has on the game.
All thats going to do is feed the elitest mentalities, which is not good for any game.
Perhaps you are conflating two things into one. Do you think that elitist attitudes are the same thing as whatever it is that drives the desire to have prestige gear? Do you think one causes the other? Or are they only sometimes correlative? I don’t have any final answers to these questions. Like I said, personally I don’t find a lot of satisfaction in prestige gear. But I understand why it exists. And I’m not convinced that it’s unhealthy for a community like you are.
Having things that are some symbol of prestige is fine. The problem is that in GW2 PvE no such thing exists. It is currently all down to lucky drops and gold farming. Not much prestige in being a lottery winner or gold farmer. Same problem exists with legendaries and commander title. The OTHER problem is people in possession of those things failing to realize that and expect some kind of respect/admiration.
Anything that could be prestigious right now can simply be bought. I don’t think that will ever impress anyone. It might inspire jealousy but not respect. Would there be any prestige if someone won a contest by bribing the judges?
I think that’s a good idea but I want to know if it’s possible we can see in the future a Test Server or something like that. This is a very common thing in other games (especially in MMOs) and I think it would help you guys a lot giving nice feedback before launching something on live servers.
If they already have an Alpha and are open to putting some types of content on the live servers for feedback, I’m not sure where a separate Beta or Test Server program would benefit anyone.
Plus, while public betas can be fun, I have seen them have adverse effects. Some players in the beta can get burned out on the content more quickly and, for me, new content feels less new by the time it goes “live”.
That aside, if /bugs is any indication about the kind quality you can expect. A beta/test server would just be a huge time sink. Many people post duplicates. Many are missing important details. Sure there are some good ones but this doesn’t seem like something that will improve by throwing more people at it.
What someone defines as fun is often different from what another person calls fun. I’m sorry our dungeon work has not appealed to you and others, but there is an audience for what we do. My hope is that in the future, we can build something that appeals to you and other folks currently not on board with our dungeon content, while still staying true to the people who have enjoyed our content thus far. Bridging that gap is not an easy process, but I am confident that such things are not impossible feats
I enjoy dungeons at large, but the major things I don’t like include:
- Massive HP sinks from bosses that are genuinely unthreatening (including FotM Svanir boss, HotW bosses, and tons more across dungeons)
- Poor rewards for most dungeons, incentivizing players to spam CoF 1 for efficiency rather than spread out and do other content in the game
- Trash being trash. Everything should have significantly less life, significantly better loot than it currently does in later parts of a path (to prevent early part farming), and be significantly more threatening. This would up the fun-factor ten fold.
And some other stuff. New AC is cool, but I never do it because there’s no good reason to. The rewards are bleh, CoF is better, AC has no lodestones or anything, has only one good armor set stat combo, and is otherwise just not worth it. I ran it a few times just to learn it and steamroll it, and yeah, haven’t run it again since.
Having some of the ugliest armor sets doesn’t help either! That is obviously subjective. As for the new AC … most of it seems okay but none of the people I play wants to do it anymore. Not that we were all the crazy about doing dungeons to begin with. The “problem” is with the bosses. None of us are fans of the whole “mwahaha all your skills and traits are now completely useless!” bit for Ghost Eater and after 7 years of GW1 we are a bit burned out on ‘dealing with stupid NPCs’ for Colossus Romblus. Dealing with dumb NPCs for crucial mechanics is never fun(for me). Speaking of not fun, you can add “red circles everywhere!!!
” to that list along with “we’ve removed chained knockdowns from one place but added them to other places because that is always fun right?”.
One of the greatest regrets in GW1 is that we never got to PERSONALLY murder Prince Rurik. The bit that is in the game doesn’t really count.
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
Well, as much as a fan i am of Anet, F&F was NOT an expansion worth of content. They should have never said that.
Colin actually commented on that in the interview with Dragon Season. Basically marketing wanted to use that phrase and then quickly learned it was a bad idea.
This information for no planned expansion worries me. It seems like they want to do a more evolving from of cataclysm. Where instead of everything just being changed, it would happen gradually as more story unfolds. That’s cool and all. But…..
What about the other Elder Dragons? Does this mean we will face them before the first xpac in just released content while the living world changes? Or does this mean we are going to be stuck with little additions like Flame and Frost until we face the next ED in the first Xpac.
Not really having an idea of there plans kind of makes me think this game will not have as much success as GW1. And I really don’t want that to be the case. It almost seems like after all these years waiting for this game they don’t seem to have any idea of what they want to do in the long run.
That is how is SHOULD be. There is a lot of missing polish in the core of the game. Shouldn’t be running off to make expansions while there is still work that needs to be done in what is already here.
As for success, GW2 has already outsold the original in the same time period by a significant amount.

Guild Wars to Launch April 28 – February 2005
GUILD WARS EXCEEDS THREE MILLION SOLD – December 2006
See how long it took GW1 to get there? That is Prophecies + Factions.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/
It’s been a fantastic ride so far – in the few months since Guild Wars 2 launched we’ve sold more than three million games and have become the most critically acclaimed MMO of 2012.
See how long it took GW2 to get there? I also have no doubt that the GW2 gem shop has made ANet a lot more money than the GW1 equivalent.
GW1 probably had to push things out at that rate partly because they had to because it was their primary means of income. This time around they are much better supported by the gem shop.

I just scanned through most of the posts and didn’t see anyone suggesting the use of a stability skill or trait. I have done it both on my storyline and for the achievement. I used the elite skill “rampage as one” on my ranger for stability and just ran across without regard for the wind. I’m at work so I can’t check and I also don’t recall, but I think every class has some sort of stability that can be used.
Every class has at least one but the mesmer version is 2 seconds. Elementalist is 6(I don’t think you can jump as a Tornado). It is random for Engineer.
It think it is worth comparing this personal story bit to the Geom’s Lab JP. Both have wind that can blow you off but the cue that the wind is blowing in the JP is better. The fluttering flags are not the greatest cue. There is also an annoying bump on the beginning of the ledge you have to jump. I probably get snagged on that 50% of the time.
12) You cannot have bank access in the mists because anyone can port there for free.
Just pointing out that people can already access the bank from anywhere, all they have to do is map to their home borderland in WvWvW, and go visit the crafting area. Voila instant bank access.
To get back to where they were, they then either log out and back in, or use the HoM stone, and use the green instance star to exit back where they were.
So that being said I don’t see any reason why the bank can’t be accessed in the mists.
Not quite the same. WvW potentially has queues. WvW → LA is one way and HotM → LA is also one way.
I think the ‘no trinity’ thing has mostly be misinterpreted by people.
What it doesn’t have is ‘you must be X class to heal/tank/dps’. You can spec any class into one of those or somewhere in between. What that means is that if you get 5 people together someone could just assume that role. That is in theory anyway, in practice that isn’t really necessary nor does it seem to happen. It is also possible for everyone to be spec in a way that is self sufficient.
Lowest level story mode dungeon is 30. Lowest level explorable is 35. Both is for Ascalonian Catacombs in Plains of Ashford(the Charr starter map). You can get there through the Asura gates in Lion’s Arch. Every starting city has an Asura gate to Lion’s Arch.
Lion’s Arch is also the place people hangout. This is also the location for the lowest level instance. Fractals of the Mist can be done starting at any level. When inside you are upleveled to 80. That is also theoretical. In practice you’ll want to have all your weapon skills unlocked(including underwater) and probably all your utility slots too.
I’ve done it with people in their 20s(also their first time doing it) so getting an elite is not required either.
Oh there is/was a bug that prevented transmuting some stuff, not sure if it is fixed yet. The workaround is pretty easy. Just put the item you want to keep the skin on the left side and put the item you want the stat from on the right side.
Nope, you need EotN to actually get the points. What you can do is get to the end of each game without finishing them. Then, when you get Eye, run the last mission in each game, and you’ll get three statues you can put in EotN.
No need to wait and don’t need to do all 3!
Accounts Linked +3
Any statue +2 (finish Prophecies for Eternal Hero of Tyria)
Any Pet statue +1 (level a pet to 20)
If you pick up a pet from the beginning those are pretty much automatically completed by the time you finish the campaign.
Last but possibly most important. Did you buy GW1 already? If not you should buy the Platinum Edition instead. That is Prophecy + Eye of the North for the same price as just Eye of the North ($19.99 USD). https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/Store.pl?action=viewItem&dnv=7492789449&item_id=729
What sort of setup did you use for the Engineer? Took me quite a while to figure out the right setup for myself.
Is what I am using except not all of my gear is exotic yet and while leveling they were Masterwork.
On the other hand I am using a 5 button mouse and fast ground targetting. It might not work as well without either of those.
You can use transmutation stones/crystals to keep the skin as you progress. Same with the items you pick from character creation and pretty much any piece of item with an appearance associated with it.
Might as well mention this as well. When doing the personal story rewards checkout the skins. I believe some are unique to those rewards. Mostly for armor skins.
That sounds like the passage that gets opened from finishing the event chain that starts with http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Help_Shining_Blade_Kimber_defeat_Kol_Skullsmasher
This should go in the bug section and it should include the server you are on and the map where this is occuring. I know there was a bug with the skipping stone JP in Southsun that was causing it to not reset fully. Could be something similar here.
Using signets will reduce the number of buttons you need. I think there is a viable warrior build using only signets, someone might confirm? Also warriors use only F1 and some builds don’t even use it.
This IMO, is the best for your purpose.
-F1 is the only class mechanic button (Mesmer have F1 to F4)
-Class can work very well with signets and there is indeed some signets builds.
-Good health pool and good defense (useful if you want to play with the least buttons as possible as it gives you good survival to balance the lack of those skills)./Cheers
Using Berserker’s Power and Heightened Focus also gives very good reasons to avoid that F1.
They generally won’t do anything for player mistakes. The only exception I am aware of is for compromised accounts and that is a full rollback to a particular date.
The size of the skill effect is scaled to the the target rather than the user of the skill. Use anything on an air elemental and you’ll see that. Using Impale(warrior offhand with a sword) on a Norn is also a good example. Instead of looking like they got impaled by a sword it looks like they got impaled by a greatsword.
Leveling can be very fast … but WvW is not a great place for fast leveling. There is typically too much down time.
You will generally die more often in WvW which means time wasted running back to your enemy. Even if you die at the same frequency in PvE there will still be less downtime(but more expensive since you have to pay for WP) since there are more waypoints(unless your server controls the whole map or certain PvE maps have terrible wp placements).
In PvE you can pretty much kill non-stop. In WvW … generally not unless you are defending something and the enemy REALLY wants it.
Being in a zerg doesn’t really help since now you run the risk of not being able to tag the enemies before they are killed. This is especially true if you don’t have decent options for range/AoE!
We are not planning to adjust the server times for DST, because it is just overly complicated to keep up with. As of Friday, taking into account DST, the match up will reset at 6 PM on the West Coast of the United States, which is 9 PM on the East Coast. It will reset at 7 PM in the U.K.
You mean 8pm in the UK, you originally posted 7pm GMT, the UK is no longer in gmt we’re in bst now so this is gmt +1. Devon could you use UTC timecodes instead as everyone knows how to work it out from there, some people forget that countries add an hour during summer so the times get skewed.
I guess that just reinforces the " it is just overly complicated to keep up with" claim. :P
All ascended items are Unique. You can only equip one of a Unique item. For Ascended there is one workaround. If you have one infuse version and one uninfused version they count as separate items so you can wear both at the same time. After you infuse an item it also becomes Account Bound+Soulbound on Use again which lets you transfer it to another character. However you can not currently infuse Accessories. That should be fixed with the upcoming patch.
YOu could WvW, Collect every armor in the game, go for titles, help new players, joina guild to do dungeon runs with instead of joining pub groups, start an alt, do Spvp, get into build making and mess around with things, Do guild missions, try to find secrets in the game that others have yet to find and maybe even find out some new lore, do every dungeon and every path in the game. I could go on but everyone has something they like you just need to find it or if you get bored for a bit just take a week or two break. This game has no fee so you will not be punished for it and they update it every month so there will be something new to come back to.
Try and find all the “events” in the game.
I knew there was supposed to be more to the quaggan games event in frostgorge but never stuck around after the events to see it. Finally got around to seeing it a couple of days ago, nothing world changing but still interesting. Despite nearly 3 world completions I still run across stuff I haven’t seen before. Some of it is like the quaggan games above, I knew it SHOULD be there but never stopped to look.
About the only advantage you have as a level 80 is that you can wear exotics and hopefully do better in WvW and some dungeons.
Exotics isn’t going to provide much of an advantage if you don’t know how to play the class. :P
A friend and I experience extreme lag whenever we try to go through Twilight Arbor, to the point where we can’t see anything that’s going on, run in place for several seconds, and get kicked out of the dungeon time after time. It happens every time we try to go through it. I’ve only had minor lag problems in other dungeons, though.
Does anyone know if this is typical of TA?
Never had that but I would suspect it’s the random stuff floating in the air in there. I DO get a similar issue in Cursed Shore on one of the beach with the dead fish event. There is a lot random junk floating(looks like brown looking smoke particles) in the air there.
By kick out do you mean other people in the group are doing that or the game? If it is the game then that is a network issue.
Based on my own personal experience with farming orichalcum, it doesn’t reset on the same timer that other ore does. Orichalcum resets at the same time as the daily reset, whereas mithril ore resets after several hours after you’ve mined it, and rich mithril ore resets approximately 24hrs after you’ve mined it.
Pretty sure they don’t respawn on reset. Each node still has its own timer. There was an ori near an ancient sapling that I kept forgetting to mine while standing next to it. I finally got to mining it a few hours after chopping the tree. When I went back to chop the tree after reset the ori was still mined out. This was in frostgorge.
Whenever I see one of these threads appear I end up thinking I’m glad I don’t have to deal with customers like this. Or rather my customers don’t get enough detail on what I do to be able to make complaints like this.
I’m sure a lot of them would consider the new software I’ve been working on for doing quarterly reports and the “how to” guide that goes with it a waste of time that could be better spent on something else (like their personal requests) even though in the long run it will save my entire department a lot of time and effort.
I’m sure the same could be said for your job too, whatever it is. Imagine if your customers/clients/end users or whoever were looking over your shoulder. Do you honestly think they could do a better job of telling you what you should be spending your time on, and how much time to spend on it than you or your boss?
And unless your answer is “yes, definitely” then what the heck makes you think you’re in any position to tell anyone at Anet how to do their job?
There was a poster over at /players/ asking for advice on getting into game development. One of the paths consider was customer support. This would probably be a good demonstration of why that is a bad idea.
Are you sure it was from a player? That sounds like a drop from a dolyak. Maybe the players can drop that kind of chest too. They contain supply rather than the typical loot.
Hi, my guild got Sotzz in a bounty training mission. We never got to find a barrel in the map, is this mission bugged? If not, how can you find the barrels? Pressing Ctrl or Alt? Can they spawn under water?
Can somebody post a screenshot of a barrel?
Given the fight mechanic I don’t think they will spawn underwater. They probably won’t spawn in the jumping puzzle or mini dungeon either since that would be a very kitten move even on top of what Sotzz is. That being said you have to walk close enough to actually see the barrels. The labels appear before the barrels. Neither ctrl nor alt will help.
Could simply be that ANet has not bothered to put enough data into the tooltips.
I faintly recall that when i first started playing the game last year there was no activation time in the tooltips at all. While it is not solid evidence, checking the wiki entry for various skills show them gaining activation time entries around October.
Also, as part of their combat video ANet claims that combat should be about playing rather than number crunching. So it may well be that activation time was added reluctantly by ANet, and do not capture the whole picture.
It is as if ANet went out of their way to dissuade theorycrafting by withholding details and means of running proper tests (at least outside the tight confines of SPVP, where you have targets of different armoring and so on).
They seem to insist that we should play the game by the seat of our pants, not with a spreadsheet and drilled tactics. Meaning that we should go by what feels right for each individual, not what is numerically superior according the spreadsheets and tests.
Some skills are still missing activation time. Hammer on warrior and Dagger for thief comes to mind.
Unfortunately the soulbound is there for a reason – karma is a currency accumulated on a specific character, so anything bought with karma is also limited to a specific character. IMO that made a lot more sense when karma was much more difficult to get and I didn’t have a hundred jugs of karma in my bank waiting for a character to use them… but if you think of karma as earned through how you play the game, it makes sense that only a character who’s done enough to earn it can purchase and use a karma-based item.
As stated, you can transmute the appearance but not the stats.
It seems like ANet changed their mind on that. The trinkets sold by those same vendors are Account Bound and Soulbound on Use.
That’s not the way the world works. If I bought something 7 months ago I shouldn’t expect to get something for free because of a promotion. A promotions sole purpose is to get new people to buy it. It’s just a bunch of useless items anyways.
Buy an expensive new car, drive it off the lot. Instantly it loses like 50% of it’s value – it’s now a “used” car.
I plan to drive the car off the lot when I get it, therefore I should get 50% off.
Yeah, doesn’t work that way. Every game goes on sale, if you don’t want to pay full price, wait for the sale. I wanted to try Skyrim, but the game plus the expansions is expensive. So I waited and kept checking Steam until I found it on sale and bought everything for the price of the original game. The downside to this is that you don’t get to play it until you find it on sale, which could take weeks or months.
So, pay full price and enjoy it from the beginning, or wait for it to go on sale, you get to choose which you prefer.
Also, I got a $25 – 2000 gem card at Wal-Mart, you don’t have to spend $30 to get a $25 upgrade.
There were places you could have gotten GW2 with a very good discount even before launch.
Examples! http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75345 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/95208 They were too late for me but a friend did get it through the one in the first link. So sometimes it is possible to have your cake and eat it too when it comes to buying. You just have to know where to look and who to ask as the LA NPC likes to point out over and over again.
thanks for the clarifications.
when you say sell the rare do you mean tp or vendor?
I mean TP but typically I only see if it will sell for more than the cost of an ecto which means ecto price * 1.18 or 1.20 for easier calculation.
They haven’t for GW2 but they did for GW1. On the other hand you can infer it from some of their responses on the forum. One of Gaile and Mike’s recent post looks like it in a thread for people who got caught by accident in a mass ban.
If no damage numbers cam up then you weren’t hitting it but that doesn’t matter. Did you get credit for the event? At least a bronze?
I haven’t experienced the issue myself at Fire Elemental but at the Maw and Jungle Wurm it’s pretty easy to have them killed before you can even deal enough damage for credit when there is a lot of people there. The wurm can die before getting out of the ground. The svanir shaman can die in the time it takes to run from where the 3 portals spawn to where the shaman is.
Also make sure the Fire Elemental event isn’t the ONLY thing that character is doing.
