Asking for a mes is fine, and I like the idea of getting in and out (if you don’t WvW or plan on staying) in the sense that it frees up the queue.

My only issue is people that come on (typically most are PVE or trying to finish daily) and start asking during something hectic like an SM offensive/defensive etc. I have seen some people get pretty testy with the JP folks during those times lol…So kinda be wary of that.

Realistically if you log on and see /map filled with people frantically typing updates to some major siege event, just wait 5-10 minutes and see if a mesmer gives a shout, or even go into the JP and see if you see one porting (spot is pretty universal).

A good commander uses their tag as a rallying point for the group, keeps people focused, and has to look at the big picture at all times.

A commander is not the end-all be-all authority, not a god, nor should they be expected to save everyone or be successful 100% of the time…

My point is would that win in Madden mean anything to you if you were playing against a 2 year old who could barely press the buttons let alone provide any kind of strategic or technical challenge. And would you still try as hard to pull off that win rather then just having fun playing against said 2 year old and just messing around.

Not ashamed of admitting I would still try hard against a 2 year old just to win.

Meaningless scoreboard or not, just knowing that at least one person feels disappointed or hurt from not winning makes it worth it to me.

Sometimes it is kinda fun to be honorable in a game, and others its fun to be bad…As long as you arent truly being a kitten (IE: scamming people, stealing from them, etc.) then I say just let people play how they want…If you (generic person) want to run around looking for duels and /bow at everyone then fine, and on the other hand if you like running around spiking people and /dance then hey at the end of the day you pressed some buttons better and your pixel beat that persons pixel….

Since I do not work for Anet, I can not explain that. Neither can you.

My best guess without really thinking on it is that it keeps the slew of commands running every nanosecond lower but that is just a wild guess. I would need to look into it more to give you a better answer. Such as, is this AoE cap also in PvE? How does the game choose which five targets get the damage? Does this cap extend only to players or would it also affect any NPC/mob type creatures that happen to be in the middle of all the players? They might have just used the framework from the Mists so they didn’t have to code a whole new module just for WvW.

That is just not a question I can answer without knowing a lot more. And since I really do not AoE with my toons, I have never had to look into that.

Just a FYI, at 1 time in this game there wasn’t a aoe cap.

From what I remember the AoE cap was put into place for balance, and to aid & hinder zergs…Meaning that one person who was glass couldnt drop on AoE on a zerg and mow half of them (upscales likely) down, or more importantly classes with DPS AoE couldn’t drop 50 people with 2-3 of them in a tower defending it etc. And on the other hand the zerg couldnt drop AoE buffs and cover everyone with one buff, pull every condition from 50 people with one cast, etc…Also you have to take into account CC skills (pulls/pushes etc) it would be crap if all you needed to defend the water gate (2nd gate) at garrison on BL was one GS mesmer to jump down WOOOOOSH all 50 the zerg off the side, or focus pull them for that matter.

As far as the “5” goes, probably has something to do with 5-man parties and working combo fields etc, but at best it is an arbitrary number, because if they made it 10 people would kitten, if they made it 4 it wouldnt make any kittening sense and people would kitten, if they made it 7 people would kitten 5 made sense….Me personally I just think when they looked at it back then 5 just made sense, not necessarily that ANET devs sit around now though and go: “oh man they ruined the game, theyre wasting my combo fields, awwww look they buffed that upscale instead of his party member…zerging sucks”

Just like now when you golem rush you have to move people out of the AoE field for the golems to soak it up not someone making a video of him pressing 1…Imagine 10+ golems and 3 mesmers with no AoE cap, and I think you could probably start to understand the logic.

Speaking of, you guys have a female human d/d ele. I see her/him every night just about and a lot of times it is at a tower doing the same thing, he/she is very good and we have some good fights but if I can ever hit him/her with Corrupt Boon then it is usually “ride the lightning” time back to the tower lol.

That would be Stalagta. To be clear I don’t have an issue with someone running in a tower 1v1 when they are losing, even though I usually don’t even spike people I down who stick around and fight 1v1 to the death.. I just found it amusing all of them ran like that.

But yes Stal is very good, we stole her from HOD .

I made a satire based on zerg gameplay in general. SF folks have just been the most vocal about it recently.

Edit: We just tend to hear a lot of kittening and whining about the zerg because, well, we zerg. LOL, makes me laugh because it works for now but once we get to a Tier that has more even number we will have to switch to/learn new strategies and tactics because the zerg will not be as powerful. But as the saying goes, if it aint broke, don’t fix it, right?

Ok zerging is fine, and it works to win.. That is great, and I have no problem with it.. The thing I don’t get is say you have 1 NSP guy running around not even capping anything… You are running around in your own BL(that you own all of) with 20 guys and run across him.

Do you 1- LOL LOOT and all run him over or 2- Jump around in circles and someone engages him 1 on 1. SF -always- picks #1, which is annoying.

Another example 3 guys standing outside your tower, obviously not trying to cap it just looking for some pvp. Nothing is going on, your BL is in no danger and you have 6 people in the tower. Do you 1- Hop on ballistas and shoot siege at the group for 20 minutes. Or 2- Jump down and engage them away from guards and have a fun fight. Again, SF always chooses 1.

These are just a couple examples of why I find SF annoying(I could list them all day). Yes I’ve met some cool people on SF, no I don’t hate the whole server or anyone for that matter.

This is just the difference between the servers in this tier atm and why SF gets a lot of flack from us. In all of those scenarios both NSP HOD and GOM have many groups who would have picked option #2, SF doesn’t seem to have any at all..

Again, I don’t hate SF, I don’t have a problem that you have numbers.. I don’t have a problem with you zerging objectives(thats how you take them). I just find it annoying that it seems there is no one at all on the server ever just looking for a fun engaging fight in the open world.

With all due respect, I think you are taking your and maybe your group’s mentality and applying it to your server to “inline it with your way of thinking”…Because I can assure you, that your server does not encourage the 1v1 mentality. I made it a point for the last two days to roam solo and finish my dailys/try out some of your server’s roaming players….What I was met with was, generally speaking, 2v1s or more (IE: 3v1, 4v1 etc)…I did find a few people either alone or looking for a 1v1 and what do you know? Some random from either team would always come in and wipe the other one of us up….And by some random it was rarely just 1 person, and usually after we had fought for a minute or so….

I know this post will likely get two responses right off, 1. not everyone plays the same on your server etc (understandable) and 2. they were probably just random people or grouped with that person or I am just an out and out liar.

Either way, truth be told, I find it much more enjoyable to run around with around 10 people capping things and taking on other groups, much more so than do I running around solo hoping that mesmer’s thief buddy isn’t about to backstab me.

In short, and I DO NOT mean this as an insult, but the “small roaming groups of pvpers” that you guys have is a minute minority of your WvW population. While we do seem to outnumber you in total, no doubt there, you guys have quite a population of zerger’s, in fact that is your majority.

FYI this running around I was doing was on EB (75% and NSP BL 25%)/…..and the NSP BL was borderline unplayable in terms of 1v1s because all I saw were 3-5 man groups mostly guild groups…I actually found more of a 1v1 atmosphere in EB which was surprising…Could have been just a fluke I guess.

I killed 2 , with SF npcs on me. took the camp.
I killed 9 or MORE while in the camp. Spiked everyone of them. while it was MY camp.
i waited and waited, even upgraded the camp.. 15 or so camp to get me out. more are there just not in the final screen shot. The kicked my face in. but i made them work for it.

Did i mention there was 2 commanders there for just 1 solo Nsp guy in a camp.

Pretty kitten impressive then, I would add, not to detract from your feat(s), but merely to add some clarity knowing the full story now. You solo’d “9 or MORE” while the camp was yours, meaning that you had some NPC help and quite possibly and RI’d Supervisor blasting them for mega dmg.

Again their bad for losing to you, just wasn’t sure of the entire story from the first post. Good on ya.

Sidebar: I know everyone thinks “commanders” mean that they’re special people 100-100 times (or some seem to think theyre nubs 100-100 times). The thing I would add to the thought process is that:

1. they have the same skills, just a tag, so downing a commander is just as good as downing anyone else.
2. Some commanders are “credit card”, meaning that they just bought the gems/traded the 100-gold and voila.
3. If you are not wanting to fight a “zerg” of people then knowingly engaging a commander is probably a bad method for achieving this goal, as if there is anyone on the map that is likely to be alone, it would never be a commander.

T7 poked SF (and I’d say the entire T8) with a lot of people saying “You guys just suck, that’s why you are on T8”, “Any server that come out from T8 will be utterly destroyed at T7”, “The server that drop down from T8 willl ROFLSTOMP you guys harder than SF ever did” and more… And I personally find amusing that the very same people (most at T7 since they are HoD/NSP) are angry about SF mocking T7+GoM. You guys started that in the first place, and now on T7 thread all you see is cry about how numerous SF is and that they should move up a tier quick (Hey, wasn’t SF stuck at T8 because they sucked?).

Long story short: HoD/NSP/GoM asked for it, now deal with it!

Jek scares me sometimes with the level of unbiased perception he has….And any of you GoM silly enough to think that SF would come down here to troll (as if we were trolling T7), can get another idea brewing up in your noggins….First off I have ties still on ET, and secondly, anytime you stay deadlocked in a matchup as long as we were the “competitiveness” melts a bit, and the animosity that we had at time fades and what is left ends up being a little bit of respect and friendship gasp….

So yes despite some people’s best efforts to think that SF is down here trolling their thread, we are really here to root for our T8 brother’s as they strive to prove to the rest of Guild Wars the talent we really had down there while the 1-7s just shoveled insults on us everyday in these very same forums….

You are dead on with the reason we don’t like spvp deathmatch would be fun but again the gear limitations in spvp also detract from it for some of us. You can be much more creative with builds in wvw than in spvp.

I almost wrote that too! WvW to me is better because people actually have to gear/build their toons, whereas sPVP is cookie cutter nonsense (opinion). I, like you, do not like gear (mainly trinket) limitations either.

Like others have said, standing outside the invulnerable zone and throwing siege back into the zone in the past has allowed for these exploits.

It seems in those cases the game recognizes the player as “throwing” in a siegeable area, rather than registering the siege “landing” in an “un-siegeable” area.

Haha thanks! We had a blast too… never quite seen a tower be held so long with 2 walls down. Our 15 did really well considering the 40+ you brought, and STILL had a good 5 minute fight in the tower lord’s room.

My guild actually does this quite often, taking towers and building siege, late at night we find it much more fun than trying to fight zergs that are 5 times our number… we’ll likely do it again tonight, look for us?

The funny thing about Birdsong, is that he trolls, I mean he REALLY works at it….Little posts here and there, never of substance just of “bait”….Several people have warned SF about Os and the trolling….But I have a slight history with ol Birdy here….You see once upon a time when I bought this game my first server was none other than NSP!

Yep I never have really tried to hide the fact that I was ex-ET….It is pretty much known to anyone in T8….ET was all but dead in WvW, the guild I was in was playing (wvw) less and less. I did not want to move up to a higher tier and get back into the queue lock…And I knew some of SF having fought them for a while, and respected a lot of their players and hated some others (mainly cause they killed me some)….Also the talk of the time was how they were moving on out of T8 and I thought well win/win, I get on an active WvW server, and get to avoid fighting against my ex-servermates and guild….But that did not happen lol, so I ended up doing both and had some good times with good friends on both servers….In fact, the guild I was in back then ended up bailing on ET too, you know them as MEND in HoD.

And also I hope you can respect the fact that I answered your comment with a legitimate statement rather than getting all elitist….Like I said I have nothing to hide about where I have been….But I would like to add, I came over not real early, but fairly early on in the matchup, so while I did jump to a better situation, I also experienced life on both sides of the fence and it was boring for both, win or lose…

That is the thing when talking to elitists, they do not listen to anything than their own head rattling…We have said numerous times, ET/FC weren’t always so greatly outnumbered, I am sure some of them would tell you that they lost a substantial WvW participation/population over the course of the T8 ghetto matchup….

So like I said above, if your people really are quitting, and history tells us that they are or will be…Then the score/ratings/ANET/WMDs/North Korea/ and any other worries you might have will take care of themselves….

Their predicted steamroll hasn’t materialized. They are getting the numbers bump from moving from red to green as dictated and expected by their population, however, if the scores continue like this, they will be losing points next week because the wont be able to win by enough (sound familiar). And looking at GoM’s performance, their overpowering server-mates from T8, well, simply, aren’t.

If you had read some of our quotes in the other thread and likely on the beginning of this one (if you didn’t I do not blame you lol), then you would know this is exactly what we have been saying….You bringing logic and common sense into it now, likely won’t end well for you considering your servermates….

I know I personally have said a few times we have to change and evolve our tactics, but doing so likely requires a struggle to “convince” the server to evolve…But like you said truth be told, its hard to toot the “we need to keep getting better” horn a lot when you are leading like we are accustomed to.

I think the ironic thing about this and the other locked thread, is that you have countless people grumbling that we have “no skill” and “only zerg”…Then act as though they are offering “constructive criticism”…We tried to offer the same criticism at times in T8 and were met with a similar response that you (NSP/HoD as a whole) are receiving from us….

However, the difference being, we are rolling on the scoreboard whereas the T8s were not…So therefore I would have to ask myself where is this “constructive criticism” really coming from? What would you truly have to gain by making a superior enemy that much more superior by giving them valuable advice??

My guess is from the freshly wounded rears of some sore sports on your servers, and yes we (SF) know that you aren’t all bad eggs, and that only a fraction of people post on servers….But we do LOVE to see those guild tags so we know which ones need that special kind of attention in game….

Kinda funny you guys are ripping a guy for pressing 1 and 2 too much, since in the perma-downed state most of you spoiled sports find yourself in, those are the ONLY buttons you can press…

So far the only “tactics” I have seen from SF are necros running around with their wells, being meat shields that protect the bads that mash 1.

I am a necro (sorta main), don’t run too many wells other than defensive stands…But yeah I do get out front to protect people, and encourage others to push…Sometimes it ends badly for me, but its a fun way to fight…I just cant be on the back line lol..

You guys chill, we will be evicting you from T7 soon enough, and at T8 you can get all the small roaming groups you want…They got folks like Agg, FoE, VK (if any are still there), and they will roll 10-15 players over half your map before you say “oh yeah 1v1 meh”….If you want small roaming groups, T8 is the place to be…But don’t say this ol boy didn’t warn ya….They coordinate a lot more than just armor colors down there….

I commented on the comment to the video not the video itself…Had nothing to do with the video, more of the tone of this entire thread…I have watched maybe 5 minutes total of WvW videos and 30 seconds of that is probably T7 vids….They do not interest me other than learning new tactics etc, otherwise I see it all everyday since I only play WvW….Not an arrogance thing, just a “videos of people playing games bores me” thing….
