People are sitting around right now furiously clicking on full servers hoping to catch a window of opportunity to xfer….
Discount/Free transfers will not come close in revitalizing lower tiers, I doubt they would do much at all. What I mean is, it is not in any way, tied to gems. People are not avoiding transferring down simply because of gems. I know that is a popular saying: “why would I go to T8 for the same cost of T2”. It just isn’t the reality.
At this point transferring/farming gold for gems, is so ingrained in the WvW player structure it has basically become a part of the game.
There are really two choices here:
-Get used to it
-Stay mad about it
Either way it is not going to change, guilds will always come and go…Most are dependent on where the fights are…Make no mistake, if the world turned upside down tomorrow and the new fights tier was on T7, then T7 would be full of transfers.
The biggest issue is the snowballing, pugs hear: Guild ____ went to server ____ and then all of the sudden a few follow. Then another guild, more pugs, etc etc.
Chaba is right, people/guilds leave because they want to. If they really were having fun where they were then they couldn’t be bought. Remember MOST of these transactions are just covering the cost to transfer. (I know there are all these wild rumors of legendaries, etc…But that is mostly false).
So if people are just getting paid what it costs to move their guild (IE: no really profiting), then that just goes to show you that it really is what the playerbase wants. The last issue is one of attrition, this game has a lot of it right now. The overall pop. cannot field 24 servers. But you have people that refuse to leave their 19th ranked server, and then you have people that can’t wait to leave because they wanna go have fun in a game (WHAT A CONCEPT RIGHT?).
The long and short of it, barring what happens with the pops. after HoT, if this trend continues in about 1-2yrs you will probably have 8-12 populated servers at best. And the lower few of those will be barely populated. The quicker you come to terms with that then the better off you will be.
I know to the lower tiered players it sucks (I played T8 my first 1.5yrs of this game), but the reality is no one wants to xfer down there and have nothing to fight outside of some pugblobs on reset.
CU might be worth a look too..but history is not in favor of that happening.
GGTESO, GGWILDSTAR, GGAA.
What if ambients fought back?
At least im not for sale.
We couldn’t hear you because you got trampled by 40 man guilds ready to jump servers.
Once you get past the rah rah server pride, lets build something together nonsense. You realize that it is all pie in the sky talk, and the best way to actually enjoy a game that you play may indeed be simply transferring.
IMO the only thing worse than server-hopping is staying on a ded one where you have no fun.
That’s true, but it also reinforces the cycle and makes it profitable for Anet to simply sit on their thumbs with WvW.
True, but the cycle exists because it is valid. I think a lot of people overestimate how many are using real money to transfer.
I honestly do not know one person that as used RL money to buy gems for a transfer. I almost never PVE and found it fairly easy to farm up enough gold to buy gems to transfer 3-4 times. And I will continue to do it as needed.
Regarding ANET doing anything with WvW, that will come from an external force (IE: some competition doing WvW/RvR better pulling players from Gw2.), the cold hard truth is that WvW is the best thing going in that game mode right now in any game.
15 dudes screaming server loyalty, 1500 players transferring every week. It really is just a game, go farm some pve and get off your ded server if you don’t like it. If you are cool with it then cool, have fun.

Did you play GW1?
O.O
Wow? Those kinds of shenanigans are that pervasive?
I guess that answers my question on whether or not the mode is worth playing.
Servers have been buying guilds for a while, the end game is 9 servers full of players and 15 barren wastelands full of people screaming “SERVER PRIDE”.
HoT may slow or hasten the process.
Valid tactic, the idea being to press the commander enough to make him hesitate. Giving your group a (supposed) advantage. I have seen it work beautifully and fail miserably, as some have suggested a lot of times it brings the hammer train to you if you use a pull or try to sit on the downed commander.
Corrupt Boon, Moa, Kill Shot, Engi pull, etc.
Dude its a checkbox, not altering the game code…Just click it.
Hopefully never. That site is a cesspool of vile hate talk.
So basically it is on the internet?
RIP
The problem with WvW is that it is many things to many people…I am not ANET apologist, but even I can admit it is basically impossible to develop properly.
All they can really do is listen to everyone and try to implement something that appeals to well…everyone…But we know that in RL when you try to do that you end up pleasing: no one.
So the question still remains: What is WvW?
Is it blobbing down doors? Yes.
Is it solo-5man roaming? Yes.
Is it siege turtleing up in a keep for hours on end? Yes
Is it running around with your guild trying to fight other guilds in the open field? Yes.
Is it an endless karma train of PPT? Yes.
etc. etc.
Me personally I would be good with having one large deathmatch style map with everyone running around trying to smash each others face in…But I am only a small part of the larger picture.
Every time I get mad about ANET not taking player issues seriously I see a thread like this….
Just turn off the emotes, and if you commander gets suppressed have him use Team Chat. And if you really are still using chat for commands…….
BYE bb’s
Good guild, great people.
Some of it has to do with the fact that “rankings” are based on the 75-80% of the year that “wvw doesn’t matter” then the rest (leagues) are formed based on those flawed numbers.
I think we can all agree that if ANET would remove downstate and/or rally mechanic then guilds probably wouldn’t care as much.
A little of the issue here is the “server mentality” or even “server loyalty” topic bleeding through. Not all (BUT SOME) guilds really do not care about anything outside of their guild. That being said, callouts, PUGs, etc are of little concern to them.
These type of guilds do exist and they are most likely in the minority, but regardless WvW is a sandbox and as such they can basically play as they like without breaking the EULA, (etc).
As long as there is a rally function and an AoE cap numbers will always be greater than skill.
Literally no one in their right mind is xferring down at this point, it was a valid argument 1.5 years ago, but not today.
The sooner everyone stacks into the top 8-10 servers the sooner people realize this game has basically no population anymore (outside of the first week of leagues)….
Yay leagues, 2 months out of the year making the other 10 months feel worthless.
(or the other way around)
Pug logs into map, sees commander tag up and running with orange swords near an objective. Pug thinks, “HMMMM I could use some XP for my uplevel ranger”, pug begins running toward tag.
Meanwhile at the tag your “guild group” is engaging the enemy and working hard to have a good fight. Ranger uplevel dude arrives, you start to get downs in the enemy zerg, pug ranger goes HAM on GS cause he heard maul got buffed. Upleveled ranger is now downstate cause bad, enemies rally….
That is why guild raids privately.
Detarget the enemy works fine then. ANET is working on it (if it isn’t fixed already) I was trying to figure it out last night on the spvp NPCs and there was an ANET guy there with me doing the same.
They are aware.
GW2’s combat system has and will continue to keep the attention of all those players who try to leave it for all those games you mentioned. The moment another open world pvp game with a even remotely decent combat mechanic comes along: Gw2 will be a wasteland.
This game has the pop. to support 8-10 servers (NA) in regards to WvW…And yet we are still scattered about 24 servers, with more and more people every month finally realizing this and migrating up in Tiers.
We will happy to have you guys joining SoR server, since we’re in the process of building our sever why don’t you guys join us, we’ve got a good community, people respect each other. and just have fun.
Wait you want people (from Maguuma) that typically shun PPT and look more for fights/roaming to come to your server, (SoR) one that is mostly famous for crumbling due to a rift (supposedly) between the PPT-folks and the “for the fights” folks?
Are you leveling when doing so?
Anet won’t do anything because they’re afraid of setting a precedent of manual intervention.
It is too late for that. There was a match one week months ago where Anet manually intervened for T8.
They adjusted the glicko ratings manually for FC/ET so SF could climb out of T8. That is if I am remembering properly that was quite a while ago. The problem there was SF could not beat ET AND FC (simultaneously) enough to actually gain the rating to climb.
Ironically Maguuma is obviously in a similar position in that ticking +5-20 ppt for long periods of the day is not enough to drop….
Interesting, but I assume they did this during off-season? Cause they sure as hell didn’t do anything to adjust SoR’s Glicko before S2, forcing a Bronze-tier server to suffer 9 weeks of hell in Silver.
This was before the invention of “seasons”. Back when people WvW’d cause it was enough.
Winner move up loser move down still is the best suggestion to me even 2 years later.

Ironically Maguuma is obviously in a similar position in that ticking +5-20 ppt for long periods of the day is not enough to drop….The main difference being that eventually what is left of Mag will drop, whereas SF would have never climbed without the intervention.
The stupidest part of all of this, is ANET could have intervened, and made their “leagues” slightly more legit simply by ensuring Mag rolled a T3 match this week. Instead they allowed the RNG (or whatever you believe they do) to roll probably the worst situation (for Mag and T2), by boosting DR up.
Now with this being the last week it is a lot to ask of CD to steamroll for PPT on DR, considering DR will likely leach rating in most of the possible outcomes.
With that said, respect to CD because they do seem to be giving it a go…If that remains true, they can join the ranks of Mag/FA (and NSP in S1) of being some of the few servers that actually tried to move up and get better fights/competition.

Really, the problem is tier-locking. It was a terrible idea in S1, an equally bad idea in S2, and, you guessed it, still a horrible idea for S3.
Detether accounts from specific servers, instead let players choose (upon entering WvW) where they wanna fight.
I have a challenge for the WvW community, everyone evenly disperse throughout the top 8 servers in the game. As one fills, move to the next until they are all full and the rest are empty. Then we can quit hearing about Coverage Wars 2, and only have to talk about Timezone Wars 2.
harharhar got rekt by condi spec when running power…. bet it was a power bunker or less bursty power spec then….
I lol’d….
The worst part about falling is that you can’t even do it properly because as the gap widens between the falling server in a tier and the other 2, the rate of rating loss also slows….
I find it really hard to believe that no silver servers are pushing up for gold, where they would be destroyed by SoS and absolutely annihilated by BG/JQ/TC…..
Yeah hard to believe people are actively avoiding that…..
Condi is out of control right now, and if what people are saying about mesmers is true then they will be absolutely broken.
Yesterday I was roaming and noticed that about 4/5 dudes I ran into were running full condi specs. Typically I run power on everything but Engi, but I am starting to think the best way to get condis fixed is just for everyone to start running it.
The more we abuse it, the more QQ it will get, and maybe in a year or so it will get dialed down a bit through some adjustments on ANET’s end.
GL getting into JQ right now, I am sure they are being flooded with T1 S3 FTW xfers.
Anyone trying to make out like colored commander tags are seriously relevant content are blatantly trolling you or just LordANETKrall.
2yrs to add color selection to tags, and they still almost got it wrong with the 300g thing. And you are absolutely right the squad system is essentially the same mechanic minus the colors.
Back to the OP, the problem with the matchmaking system is that the glicko does not adjust fast enough. When a server falls/implodes/crumbles/tanks/etc, it takes way to long to lose that rating. In those weeks that follow, the server takes even more of a hit/damage to their pugbase because no one wants to log in to a map that looks like the one posted.
Remember it is not just bad for the outmanned server, it sucks for the overpopulated server too, boring is bad in games, and this game has a lot of it on NA servers right now.
BP bought out Mag’s top guilds, some went to TC and some to Archeage. The server never really did co-operate and I think Mag is going to replicate SoR’s downfall.
LOL….GG if you think WARBUS was Mag’s “best guilds”…
They were inconsequential guilds that ran from fights and tried to cap paper objectives….If people worth following tag up on Mag, Mag queues the map.
The reason why War/Bus left is because they play ppt and no one else really does outside of necessity. Right now there is no need to stay in T2 anymore.
Also losing SiX was more of a major blow than War/Bus combined…CTH even more so probably.
The last 3 months for WaR was about defense. Mostly because I was stuck in College finishing my degree. There are many false things about what you just said. I cannot speak for BUS as I never played with them. But I can tell you this. As the main driver for WaR when we officially raid, we never ran from any fight. Even if we were overwhelmed with enemy numbers. You should talk to some of the other main guilds and ask if we were involved in fights before you run your mouth. I am mostly “for the fights”. That is what I love to do mostly in this game. But I also understand the need to PPT. To stay at a high tier to get those fights. I come from a short list of guilds. HDA, Pyro, Arkham, and now WaR. War is now my permanent home. I dont play for guilds that run from fights.
Yet you transferred servers, thus running from fights.
GG no re.
I cant hear you from T8?
The maguuma that fought tooth and nail in order to make Gold League twice; that was a group to be feared. They fought in spite of the score.
The era of the weaker sister has just ended, where they were more like hipsters pretending to not care about the score, even though the whining about it was deafening. I’m not sure who or what it lost or what poisoned the well; but they would go on about others PPT’ing where once they didn’t care what you did but would stomp you all the same.
No one ever cared about the score Chuckles…..Even when they were pushing for Gold, it was always about the fights…PPT for many people is a means to an end these days, for the rest (see: SoS) it is still a game mode.
Speaking as someone who has played on T8-T1 (NA), the problem is about 30% numbers 70% organization with lower tiers.
And the 30% numbers is mainly due to the few servers down there that have OCX/Sea coverage that allows them to be blasted during much of the day but still win (or come close to it) due to most servers down there having nothing during OCX/Sea.
In T7 & T8 you are lucky to find 5 players in WvW during OCX / SEA on certain servers.

DB did their time in gold, it is now time for YB to step up, and luckily for them it will only be 4 weeks.
DB is not the problem, nor is the tanking….The problem is that ANET should have thrown out Bronze/Silver/Gold and used that Swiss system to rank all 24 servers during leagues and in doing so left leagues 9 weeks or whatever it was.
The swiss system (or the variant of Winner goes up loser goes down) is the best way to balance the Glicko over time (IMO).
is a full toughness healing boon duration guardian any helpfull in zergs? or its just a waste of another unit in a big zerg?
About the only scenario that it would be helpful would be in a 5 man (or small group) in a roaming/havoc situation…IE: The Girlfriend Spec.
Even then it is debatable, and varies depending on the guild/group/etc.
Zerg healing comes from sheer numbers usually, and while empowers do add to that overall number and they are important, waterfields are the money maker, after they are blasted by 10+ people. Beyond that the other healing factor from a guardian is the dodge roll heals, and that can be supplemented throughout your build (without going full heal spec, etc).
Thank god we have EotM. No reason go normal www or play any other game.
You can level your toons and get Diamond Rank there, it is gud.
