One mechanic from GW1 that did not make it into this game was the Dervish’s sacrificing enchantments to power up their skills.
We don’t have enchantments and hexes here, but a new class, whatever form it takes, could use this mechanic as a sacrifice a boon or a certain boon to improve the effect of a skill.
Necro has the boon consumption I thought.
But for a Shadow Knight, I would much like to have the dervish transformations as a class mechanic. 3-4 transformations to use, with no secondary weapon, would rock.
Have to fuel the mechanic by doing damage/taking damage and killing/death, similar to Necro, but can pick between 3-4 transformations sort of like Engie kits. No secondary weapon. Weapons choice can effect the transformation skills similar to Ele attunements.
That could rock.
I hate character levels in MMOs period. I will leave it at that.
Love non-level progression.
NPE may be better than grinding pointless levels…
I do believe (as in this is my belief), that most players log into the game, kill some stuff, farm some stuff and log off, without ever visiting the forums or ever being aware of the deeper issues.
That doesn’t mean that’s said on the forums has not value. But it doesn’t mean that what’s said on the forums has absolute value either.
Just for the numbers .. our german CM postet a while ago that only 1% of the player
post at the forums, and 7% read them.So really 1% only post .. and i think it don’t really need much proof to say that people
go to the forums either if they have problems with the game like bugs, or simply that
they dislike parts of it .. or they are really dedicated to the game and those are more
often the so called “hardcore” gamers.
I hear this argument all the time. So tired of it. It’s BS!
SWTOR forum had lots of bad talk. But was the the vocal minority? Because that game went F2P within a year after release…
What about Warhammer? That game shut down. Guess that was also the vocal minority on the forum there giving feedback that wasn’t praise.
What about Rift, or Darkfall, etc?
I guess the developers had a reason to ignore that “vocal minority”,,,, and we see that results of it…
The problem with housing is it should be made instanced in order to give everybody a shot at it. Instanced content gets people out of e world, and anet wants people roaming the maps (as i do, too), oterwise the game would feel deserted.
He game world is already Instanced. So I don’t see that as a problem. There is a mega server for a reason.
I do agree with Konig, this game just needs only 1 Profession more, a 3rd Soldier Class.
But I absolutely disagree, that it has to be something “Shadow Knight” like, because this role can be completely taken over by the Necromancer, if Anet would just improve the game’s character progression system by adding Sub Classes and giving Necromancers then a Sub Class, like “the Witcher”, which will work then basically as the role of the “Necro Warrior” konig is talking about, cause as Witcher the advanced Necromancer would learn how to wield Swords and Greatswords and would receive a much more melee based Combat Gameplay then together with new improved Curses (Hexes – different forms of Conditions unique to the Witcher like Poison > Toxin turning his Poisons into a Form, which can be cured only, if a Player uses the Anti-Toxin-Spray Healing Skill)GW2 needs more Character Progression, not tons of different new seperate Classes, when thigns like the mentioned Bard and Chronomancer can easily be perfect Sub Classes for the Mesmer as the mesmer already shows Skills and Traits, that have to do with Sound and Time Control, here the Mesmer has even already an Elite Skill ,that controls Time with "Time Warp*, or other timespace based skills like Temporal Curtain, Blurred Frenzy, Phase Retreat, Distortion, Portal Entre.
Chronomancy is and always will be the strongest form of Illusion Magic and thus makes a perfect option for a Chronomancer Sub Class for Control, while Bards are the mesmer’s perfect Inspiration Magic Sub Class for Support. So it would be alot better for the whole game, if we just would focus on and improve all of the existing classes after adding a final 9th “Main Class” instead of repeatign the same mistake Anet did with GW1 and add more and more seperate new Classes.
Polishing the already existign classes would do this game alot better on the long road, than to throw in lots of complete new classes, which are alot harder to design and to implement, than to just imporove and polish something, that already exists in the game, while a Sub Class System can be used to still introduce new mechanics and new useable weapons as part of the character progression for your chosen path of progression for your Character, like for example that by choosing to become a Ritualist with your Necromancer, that you learn then the gameplay mechanics of using Spiritualism Rituals, a higher form of Spectral Magic, to be able to commune with Spirits and merge them with your Equipment, like how Marjories dead sister merged with the delaqua family blade to be always at her sisters side this way to protect her from harm
Or to learn how to use Ash Urns, the only other gameplay mechanic, that didn’t find its way into GW2 to use the Spirits as an environmental weapon which changes your weaponskilsl while carrying the urns or has large aoe effects on the environment,. when you place it somewhere, like for example summonign some spiritual beasts, that will protect that area (and the urn) for you at that location where you positioned the urn to work there at the position as defenders for example which attack anythign that might come the urn too near, while the urn gives for the area positive as like negative effects base on if you carry it or not, just like how those skills worked in GW1.Thats the massive potential, that lies in GW2’s Character Progression if we would get Sub Classes.
Currently all Classes in GW2 feel like Novices, that absolutely make no usage of all their potential and this already since over two years.
My High End Thief still feels and plays itself like, as if I would have created it just yesterday and would be still a Level 1 beginner.
Thats the sad part about GW2, that this game nearly has still no real Character Progression after all those years to the point, that the Devs made even extra the very first CDI about this “problem” and we still see no fruits of any way from that one in the game until today. Its about time, that there happens something, or I guess Anet won’t see a very successful 2015 by the end of this year, if GW2 stays so extremely stagnant in it’s overall Character Progression for a 3rd year in a row.
Not saying I don’t like a new class progression system,
But Necro is a Scholar not a Soldier. The game needs a third Soldier. Soldiers wear plate armor. Necro-warrior progression system would still wear cloth not heavy armor. So it really wouldn’t be a soldier. Just a Melee fighter. Mesmers and Eles and Necrosis already have Melee ranged attacks. That doesn’t make them soldiers.
A Shadow Knight class can work, especially with its own class mechanics like maybe a shape shifting ability for temp weapon skill changes. That could be pretty cool.
Well, since we already have 3 professions with light and 3 with medium armour, it speaks for itself that the ‘new’ profession would have to be a heavy armour type..
How about a Battlemage? A heavy armour user that can wield some devastating spells (so quite tanky and potential for some decent DPS)..
….just gonna leave that here. Not claiming i know anything and more then the pic i dont got…but it sorta does seem to go into that direction…does it
(text says : be prepared for anything)
Is that new? Notice his blindfold ,,,, and didn’t he get eliminated?
Demon Knight? Risin Soldier?
Dread Knight? Shadow Knight?
Reaver? Reaper?

I was a newbie too when the game was on beta i never felt overwhelmed by the game itself.
Compared to other MMO, Guild Wars 2 is pretty simple since you don’t have a massive quantity of skills or abilities .
I would suggest to roll back some changes of the NPE.Not a beta player here, but I could say the same. At my first days I though GW2 a lot simpler than other MMOs (although I haven’t played many) and I never felt overwhelmed by the game itself too. In fact, I love figuring out things by myself and I hate being locked out just because someone else thinks that I’m not able enough to understand or deal with stuff.
Honestly, I thought the NPE is decent in trying to introduce new players to the mechanics, but I honestly think that you should give players some credit in letting them figure out the mechanics themselves. If you want to give them a tutorial, we got the very first story instance for them and you could always just make the necessary tweaks to those instances instead.
+1 to this.
Let’s be real here. This NPE was done to make the game more grindy for the Asian release of GW2. What a coincidence of timing to release this NPE huh?
I think this game can learn that force feeding player housing is a bad idea. Nothing but outrage in most mmo communities regarding the decision and content direction wow made. I think the time for GW2 to capitalize on this is now. When will we get raiding content and possible guild halls (not player housing).
Rift added Player Housing, and its been nothing but praise. So please stop using your hatred of WoW to justify leaving certain features…
Hey can you all stay on topic. the Big new content update could be anything, doesnt have to be whatever the Pax reveal is…. Thats why I was vague about it.
Also no GW1 classes. Brand new ideas for sake of this discussion.
What’s some classes you would like to see created or added to the game that wasn’t a class from GW1,
If the new big content pack in a few months features new classes that is..?
This trait is designed ONLY for PvE environment NOT for combat like pvp or wvw. You dont have to use it so whats the problem ?
Im using it every time when I have to do jumping puzzles.
Well the problem is that those traits are for very niche situations, and they take up space where a more useful trait could have been that fits a bigger purpose than a gimmick fall.
That’s why I said, keep the fall effect, but also have a non-fall effect to the trait to make it more useful for more builds.
I hate spacing into a trait line and having one less trait that could have been something useful, but instead I get a useless fall trait, when most the time I won’t be falling.
Two birds one stone.
Please add a side effect to the Fall Damage traits to make them more useful for more than just fall damage. because in certain trees its a waste of space since rarely can fall in a controlled fight.
I like this concept of them, dont get me wrong. I Just hate how use a gimmick takes up useful limited traits.
Just add a non-fall effect to each of the fall damage traits so it does one thing while falling down, and does a secondary effect during combat that has nothing to do with falling.
whats a way to make a Dual Class system work in GW2?
Many games have Dual Class systems that work. But how would such a system work under GW2’s rules?
At one point, wasnt there a water area with Nagas in the Eternal Map?
Maybe I am a bit off. But if not, can somebody point me out to the info page for that stuff?
I am trying to find a map of the original Eternal WvW map.
Edit, no I may be confusing this with borderland maps.
I dont like the run animation while in combat. its too slow. no longer looks like he running.
First: Yes, the title of the thread is poo, but I couldn’t figure out how to put the entire question into the title. Sorry. Now, on with the post.
I’m sure we’re all aware that many people (not saying all or most, just “many”) would like a new class to try. Part of the problem with that is that ANet covered most of the bases already with the existing 8 classes. Efforts to think up a new class will often run into the problem of copying an area covered by an existing class.
But is that really a problem that we care about?
If ANet came out with a class that was very similar to one of the existing classes in play, or felt more like a mix of two of them, would that actually be a bad thing if the style of the class is still different? If they came out with a class that (for example) was basically a warrior with a magic and spirits theme, would anyone want it or would it be rejected?
I realize that the price you would have to pay for such a thing may matter and influence your decision, but on the basic level, do we care or would we rather have the new class to play with?
I’d kind of like to hear people’s opinions on this.
I honestly hate that argument.
Sorry but in many other MMOs that have many classes each with different functions.
People forget that its not about roles covered, since all classes suppose to be able to play roles. its all about how the class play. All classes have their own mechanics, so no class is a copy of another.
Look at Warriors and Guardians. They both wear plate armor, and have melee weapons but nothing alike in gameplay.
Same thing for Rangers and Thiefs.
So that argument that Anet covered everything is flawed.
We still dont have Shadow Knights, Shape Shifters, Golem Mancer, and thats just to name a few.
Any plans for more/better Under Water combat and gameplay features / meta events under water?
I rarely do underwater content, but thats mainly because of the limited content there and the limited gameplay.
I hope this part of the game gets a major improvement in the xpac soon.
How could Signet of Vampirism be made useful?
I and trying to figure out which skill to get with the limited scrolls I have between three of my remaining classes to level. I was wondering if this skill “Skelk Venom” is useful to buy?
is this skill useful for 30 points?
Or should i go with the new heal skill instead?
Any use for Experience Scrolls when all your characters are above level 20?
Also I notice there are two different experience scrolls with the same description. what they do differently?
When the next Gem Store update?
keep it as a souvenir

whats the best and worst sigils?
I see many choices, but not sure of their value to use. I see a sigil that heals on crits, but not a lot of people use it for some reason.
same with many other sigils.
so share with me the useless/lesser useful Sigils
and which are better for the avg build?
huh? what are you asking?
I would like to suggest getting rid of soulbinding, and replacing anything like it as account bound will make gear useable by other characters and will help players save a lot on gold and mats when deciding to change builds or whatever. Making Ascended account bound was a nice step, I suggest going further and getting rid of soulbound altogether because it is simply to restricting and leaves players with a bunch of useless gear on a toon/in bank that they could put on another toon, just because they changed builds and stats.
its in place to make it so that crafters and people in the economy always have business.
oh I came here to say the In-game shop is lacking.
I had money, but not a lot of things in the shop I wanted. I want more cool looking fantasy armors in the styles. I mainly play the dressup game with my heavies. So more plated looking outfits would be cool as well.
Also would like to buy some weapon skins that are cool looking high fantasy.
What about buying some new skills?
New skins for Ranger Pets.
New Skins for Guardian Spirit Weapons.
New Skins for Necromancer Minions.
New Skins for Warrior Juggernaut.
New item that consumes those annoying ores to do something fun and useful.
unlike turn based, I would like a fighting game 2 vs 2 or 1v1v1v1 similar to smash bro…
IMO I believe Anet is waiting for future big named competition, similar to Sony’s Everquest Next to reveal launch plans, before sharing Expansion Pack details.
Its a similar tactic that Blizzard did with World of Warcraft CAT expansion during the SWTOR/GW2 hype period.
Whats your thoughts?
Character slots.
which is better for my pockets?
buying another character slot to hold items
or to buy another bank slot?
Whats you fav Perma Gem Shop upgrade?
Irony
Anet wanted to move away from the Trinity, but they wind up making the game centered on playing 1 role (DPS)….
DPS DPS DPS
This game would be better with defined roles that had equal value in the game.
The Community in general agrees that the game is centered around DPS and how fast you can kill kill kill. Most groups will kick you if dont spec for the most damage, unless grouped with friends…
the fight mechanics in dungeons dont even require people specing differently from just pure damage potential… thats a shame.
Such a cool game to play, with only 1 role to play to be of any use.
There really is no point playing any other way. its a waste. Damage beats all.
When the Raid Dungeons come, i seriously hope Anet considers expanding the group roles, because I am tired of the DPS fest.
Dont get me wrong, I liked the DPS role in the trinity as well, but I also liked to play other roles in the game. Thats what makes it fun, is the ability to play more roles.
what were some of the changes that people dislike?
add more PvPvE in the Borderlands.
Give me a reason to go there when population is down.
I am not for or against it. I havnt had a chance to notice any changes. My WvW server is dead.
But I am curious as to what people dislike about the change.
Awesome idea here
anymore snuck in?
I am trying to do a Moonwalk on my human male character. Has anybody mastered it yet? have tips?
where is the traits discussion? Thats huge right now.
As well as the NPE
what class best fit Condition greatSword?
This is something bothering me. I have a condition great sword exotic I would like to give one of my characters but cant figure out which is best for it.
help me out please.
The “Play How I Want” concept of the originally developed and advertised game (disregarding the origin of the quote) is steadily fading away with every patch:
It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play the game in order to reach the most powerful rewards. — from Colin Johanson on Guild Wars 2 in the Months Ahead, January 2013
How did it happen?
WORLD BOSSES
Before:
- Open an online timer for your server, group with like-minded players and do events that you want when you want. Feel yourself as a hero who willingly saves Tyria from daily threats! Feel how the world is living and changing because of you, coordinate with people and announce the next boss you gonna beat!
- Beat a world boss with some 3-5 people next to you at low hours, and feel great because it was challenging and fun! Or do not beat it and understand that your efforts were not enough and you should get better.
Now:
- After the Megaservers improvement, put a list of times for world bosses next to your PC and stop doing whatever you were doing offline to join the boss you want to play. Feel like you’re doing a scheduled task at your job in the office.
- Always be accompanied by a megazerg, tag and spam “111” to win. No need to know the encounter, you won’t see anything because of particle effects and lags.
HOME WORLDS
Before:
- Choose a server you like, be it a Spanish server or an unofficial RP server, speak the language of your choice and get to know “your” people.
- See the same people, get acquainted and say “hi” on your favourite journeys.
- Build a WvW community, recruit and ask for help!
Now:
- After the Megaservers improvement, get placed with random people who speak different languages and can’t care less about you and your interests.
- Meet random people you’ve never seen before and never will.
- Forget about talking about WvW in map chat.
UNLOCKING TRAITS
Before:
- Start leveling and get new stuff to make your build better (with 3 tiny payments) straight away. Do what you want and enjoy the aspects of the game you like! It doesn’t matter if it’s your 1st or 64th character, you simply play!
Now:
- After the Trait improvement, grind all over the world (including WvW) with each and every character doing the same stuff over and over again. Or pay tons of money with gold and skillpoints (which you have to collect and which have gold value) to unlock it for each and every character.
UNLOCKING SKILLS
Before:
- Start leveling and unlock new skills gradually and rapidly. Receive skillpoints to unlock skills here and now.
- Do content depending on your skill, and not your level. 10th character? Will feel like a breeze!
- Equip weapons and kill stuff to unlock all 5 weapon skills straight away. Love GS5 skill? Unlock it and use it now!
Now:
- After the NPE improvement, start leveling and grind with “1111211112” to the level where you can unlock the skills. Wait for levels to get some skillpoints.
- Do content depending on your level, and not earlier. 10th character? Your problem.
PERSONAL STORY
Before:
- Play PS when you want and how you want. Experienced? Jump above the level requirement and beat it because you can!
Now:
- After the NPE improvement, play PS in chunks when they know for sure you can beat it and won’t uninstall the game from the frustration of understanding that you’re not skilled enough. Experienced and want challenge? Your problem, grind and wait.
EXPLORATION
Before:
- Walk around the world and feel like a free hero. Do what you want when you want.
Now:
- After the NPE improvement, follow the arrows (and press [F] to win). No need to make decisions.
Spot on thread
Come on Anet, dont miss this deal
I bought this game almost a month back now and I’ve barely played it. Couple hours spent on it, thats all. I was looking for an MMORPG because I’ve enjoyed them in the past. Played Runescape for years. Played SWTOR for a month and only stopped because I didn’t have much time on my hands. I enjoyed Runescape a LONG time ago, and SWTOR recently.
Did some research on MMOs, found this, saw great reviews, how its the MMO that breaks the norm of grinding, saw an awesome review by Angry Joe. In particular, he mentioned he couldn’t get into SWTOR despite the awesome concept because of the lack of interesting game play. He struck me as someone who was looking for an MMO experience that actually had a soul to it.
So I spend 35$ on this, start playing, and what do I get? Maybe a few minutes of interesting story and then hours of follow the arrow, kill stuff for WAY longer than should be necessary, level up, move on. Seriously? This is exactly what I was told this game DOESN’T have. Why do I have to spend 15 minutes dancing for cows and killing worms by spamming a key to fill up a bar?
Honestly this is the reason I hate spending money on games these days.
The only reason I’m still trying is because I feel guilty for spending money on this.
So please help me find ways to make this experience more “fun”, since the game refuses to do that for me. I discovered the random events already. Besides that so far I’m just following arrows and doing side quests that involve killing 20 of something. Does this end? When does this end? Is there any other alternative to progressing in the game and hopefully getting somewhere better? What else can I do except be the NPC’s kitten?
HONESTLY despite being a WoW clone I found SWTOR a lot more fun.
Sorry to tell you this, but you fell for the hype.
next time learn from this mistake.
What skills would they be? Can you think any? Can you think any new weapons and/or weapon skills? Remember balance between professions.
I made a thread awhile ago which I came up with many skills. 30 in fact. By myself. So I know a team of developers can come up with more.
Here is the link to that thread in fact…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/add-30-new-skills-per-class-in-xpac/first
I am tried of waiting. At this point I am willing to pay 60$ per class for new skills. at least 20 new unities and 5 new weapons skills.
I am willing to pay 60$ per class for this upgrade. I want new skills to play with and tired of waiting. Lets bargain.
I dont really play Thief, Necro, or Mesmer much, but for the rest of the classes, I am willing to put some money down to get new skills to use. 60$ a pop!!
come on, Anet you cant beat that!!
I would love to play my Ranger with a magical healing staff with some powerful CC and support abilities that rival Water Eles.
Also would be nice if one of the skills on the ranger staff was some kind of stationary spirit minion of some kind.
:)
Isnt it just magic?
Magic in this universe can be studied like a class at a college school right?
So makes sense for smart group of people that study everything to also study magic and the different schools of magic.
How do I shadow step stump? I seen people do it, but don’t know how it works.
I really want an elite two hander Melee weapon kit. I would love for something like that. A saw sword, or light saber or something that’s two hander and does decent damage.
I never got into the wrench because of it being a lame looking 1 hander and lame animations to go with it. I would like something more cool on the eyes. An elite Melee two hander kit would rock! Hoping for that in the next skill pack coming.
