I don't understand Regen mechanics

I don’t understand the regeneration boon mechanics. It seem only one regen can be up, and it’s always from the strongest source.

So why do skills have different regen healing numbers, and what’s the point of having multiple people with regen skills if they all overwrite each other?

It’s one of those things that bother me. If I spec for a support role in a semi large group, but others have better healing power, or better skills, my healing from regen will be pointless, based on how the mechanics are described.

I am excited about getting new pets and skills in the expansion pack.

What some skills and pets you all want in the first expansion?
1) Start with weapons you want that already exist,

2)Then tell me what brand new weapons you may want

3) what new pet

4) what new skill of an existing class type

5) what new class skill type and skills to go with it you want

(Sug) More units to fight in Silverwaste

Suggestion

More and Larger Squads of units to fight in the Silverwastes.

Have squads of units come out to attack players with similar tactics of WvW squads.

Have Mordrem’s that function similar to each of the playable classes, and some that function like sieges do in WvW when it comes to attacking the locations and players.

That way players have to be more tactical when dealing with them.

When they capture a base, make their base a resource pool for them, so players have to change tactics whenever they get defeated.

Gives it a more WvW feel, since WvW is dead on my server.

Anet trying to reduce its player base?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Knighthonor.4061

Knighthonor.4061

Where did this quote come from?

A lot of the things being mentioned happened because we the players asked for it…

No, not really.

ANet’s established method of communicating its intentions along with their general reluctance to understand that killing the goose is no way to secure the supply of golden eggs is reflected in the changes that ANet has brought about:

Ascended Tier:

Players widely expressed concerns of a dearth of end-game progression opportunities, so instead of ANet implementing (let’s say) a fully fleshed bevy of “Elite Traits” and a engaging system of acquisition to the game; they gave us instead a dungeon treadmill (Fractals) and the poorly realized Ascended Tier.

Fractal Level +30 Reset:

Fractals became the new corridor of progression and plenty of players lined up and started grinding them out in the understandable confidence that ANet had adequately planned out the path ahead. Unfortunately, it had not.

ANet revised the entire system, and changed the rules.

I never had a dog in this fight, but it was another “thrashing” dev change inflicted on players that could be categorized as “major”.

Trait Unlock:

Players, still hungry for progression opportunities, clamored for something that the original Guild Wars had offered: Elite Skill Hunting/Acquisition.

It was a great idea that would allow the players at 80 to have a full spectrum of new and varied challenging (perhaps, ever-growing number of) opportunities to acquire NEW “elite” Traits to top off the existing core Trait lines.

Tone deaf as always, ANet decided to rework the ENTIRE Trait system as well into the introduced system. This changed the game in a fundamental way, I won’t delve into if it was good or bad; but let’s agree it was a HUGE game changer.

NPE’s Level Gating:

In response to a “dire” need to retain new players that presumably were quitting due to the game’s complexity, ANet added further layers of progression complexity.

Where once, an elegant and intuitive system existed, a clunky, inconsistent and plodding progression curve was introduced.

Stepped and widely spaced attribute gains led to some serious peaks and valleys in what had used to be a smooth progression.

Skills and abilities were level gated in off-putting and non-complimentary ways. (Example Off-hand usage and Weapon Swap)

totally agree

Anet trying to reduce its player base?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Knighthonor.4061

For some weird reason or another, anet has been trying to reduce its player base for some time now. Starting with making champs in to vets. Reworking dungeons so that we only do one path per day. Removing traits so you only get them if you want to waste all that extra time doing the events (or buy them) is just another in their weird idea on how to make the game better. If players are playing some specific aspect of a game then removing is it pathetic and will only lead to less players playing the game. It is getting to the point that some of these events are not soloable and there are no other players available to help so players end up not bothering to get the traits that are required to play other parts of the game, like wvw and pvp etc!

What they need to do is make the water weapons available on land as well. Why would you not be able to use a spear or a harpoon on land?

Spear I can see, but don’t be silly: a harpoon gun on land would just be a crossbOH.

Nevermind.

Spear was already a Land weapon(GW1)
and Trident seems like a Melee spear so no stretch there,
and harpoon is a cross bow like you implied which I agree with.

and I see some good models from that window as well.

[Suggestion] All characters to pass Exp to alts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Knighthonor.4061

Are you suggesting that once you have a level 80, of any profession and race, you get some sort of advantage for every other character, including those of different professions, races, or personal stories?

Do you mean, for instance, that you play your Level 80 Mesmer, but the benefits (XP) go to your Level 10 Engineer and your Level 31 Thief? All of them? One designated one? Does that apply to karma and other attainments?

I’m curious about what you have in mind with this suggestion, so thanks for the details.

I too am not the OP, but I’ve been thinking about this.

The most straight forward way would be to make Tomes of Knowledge buyable for skill points or laurels. Earn them with whoever you want, pass them on to the character you want to advance. Yes, you can also earn those with lower level characters and this way speed up their leveling even more, but it would still cost you those useful laurels and skill points.

Another idea is to have it so that you can set a level 80 to a different EXP meter. When they fill it up, they don’t get a skill point, they get a Tome of Knowledge. Basically, they take the levels they earn and can pass them on to another character in that way.

Either way, I think using Tomes is the way to go. Why mess around trying to program in a way to link EXP gain between characters directly when there’s already a good way to pass on levels?

I like the separated exp bar idea here.

Karma is already a shared account wide currency like all the rest.

With my idea Exp gained is calculated by its percentage of the (max level character playing) would be filtered based on percentage gained, and that percentage or a fraction of that percentage would go to the selected (designated)alt instead of the max level character. This is for exp only. We have scrolls for getting skill points.

So this Mentoring idea is basically a way to level up lower level characters while playing on a higher level character both (PvE and WvW).

This way players like myself, and play and have fun on the higher level characters and not feel burden to grind levels on low level alts which is not an enjoyable part of this game.

I must admit, I am one of those players that dont enjoy leveling grind, and definitely dont like the new leveling restrictions.

I have so much more fun playing a high level character, but I want to get my low level characters to high level so I can enjoy them as well.

I have an idea. How about a Mentoring system in which we can choose an alt that we can pass our EXP to to level them up instead of the character played.

this could be optional so it doesnt effect those that love level grinding.

I want more optimal roles for PvE Dungeons

Knighthonor.4061

I want more optimal roles for PvE dungeons.

I hate how limited the roles are in both PvP and PvE in this game. I have invested much time and money into this game on the potential that the developers would get a wake up call.

but I still dont see changes, or even acknowledgement from the developers that changes are to come.

WvW was the appealing aspect of the game that got me attached, but that was completely abandoned, and over time certain servers were abandoned because of this.

I am left with either EoTM Player vs Keeplord, or PvE now.
And the PvE simply isnt appealing when I am limited to a few builds and roles to be optimal for playing with others.

how about some change. Enough with the Living Story stuff for a while, and put some of those minds into making the gameplay better and more fun for the players. Bring back some of the old Meta-Events from a while back if you need to buy more time from the playerbase. that would at least hold our attention until you improve the gameplay.

The “revamped” trait system and level-gating of basic features were all problems that people widely complained about in the Chinese release of this game. Why are they being back-ported to North American and European releases under the guise of “new features”?

The trait system had nothing to do with China and everything to do with people who wanted to hunt for skills, like in GW1. Well they got what they wanted and now they are complaining about it.

Also, it is easier to have one basic game, just with language differences than it is to have multiple versions of the game. I don’t blame them in the least for doing it. It makes common sense.

hunting for traits != taking away traits from lower levels…

Why Guild Wars needs an expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Knighthonor.4061

Knighthonor.4061

I hate to do this but GW1 (which I can see is not the same game) and their expansions seemed to further advance the game entirely every time, offering many days/weeks of content that GW2 just hasn’t quite touched upon. The LS is great, but it offers very little in the long run.

Well, see, those expansions also weren’t a problem in one particular way: with one exception, any of those could be purchased and played as a full game. I got my brother into GW1 because I got a free code from a contest somewhere, and he could play alongside me without needing to shell out for every one of the three games at the time.

However, from traditional expansions . . . it is a barrier to new people and it is the biggest reason I keep skipping trying WoW. There’s just a high cost monetarily to getting in and playing with friends who have been playing it for a while.

I don’t have a great objection to expansions . . . I just think they wouldn’t work to fix what’s wrong. I think it’d just magnify the problems when people pay for an expansion and don’t get what they want, as opposed to it just dropping into their laps one part at a time over two weeks.

Actually, you’re entirely right now that I read your explanation.
I knew expansion just didn’t fully explain how GW1 was, it’s been awhile. But back to GW2, a stand alone expansion could be fantastic. I read above how WoW’s expansions pushed some away – this could be a great alternative.

thats not why people quit WoW who try to join after new Expansions. The reason they quit is because of the level increase, which means more level grinding, just to play all the game features.

Suggestions: Real Airships in Tyria

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Knighthonor.4061

Knighthonor.4061

Hello Anet guys,

I don’t expect you guys to make this happen ASAP, but I hope that you will put this up for consideration for a new update OR an expansion.

We have established that Tyria has airships. Hell, in Edge of the Mists we got one in a sense. But I think it would be very fantastic to have in GW2, ideally in a WvW environment and if you could pull it off, perhaps in a PvE setting where it would naturally cost significant influence points in addition to gold just to buy the materials you need to construct an airship and we can use said ships in taking out sky pirates, new world bosses who fly or opposing servers in massive dreadnoughts where you would have to take them out a la Guns of Icarus, encourage certain players to man the guns, navigate the ship and ensure regular maintenance of the engines.

These suggestions are still rough around the edges and it may not be very specific, but I hope you can take this idea and perhaps work around with it for future content as I think this would bring more possibilities of fun in Tyria.

The problem is, that the world wasnt designed for players to see from a top down view, so many locations dont have full texture. So that would need to be added first before allowing players to fly. That cost time and resources.

So few skills and Traits is a killer

New Traits and Skills would be great, but we also need new dungeons where we can use them.

New dungeons are cool to. But New skills and traits are needed now.

Anet should really look into developing the trait system. it should be revamped into something better for customization.

New Class skills are a must. I am so bored with having so few to pick from. Especially when you factor in play style.
