Upon Attuning a Ring it gets a messed up name.

For example I had a Red Ring of Death. I did Red Ring of Death (Infused) in Mystic Forge. I then Attuned the Ring (adding second Agony Slot) and it’s now Attuned Bagh Nakh (Infused). Stats are all the same as they should (Berserker) but the names are all flip flopped all over.

Happens with every ring.

Water Combat/Stance Issue?

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

Only Shiro/Mallyx works which not sure why. Only Elements is ground targeted and it could be made to occur at the Revenant under water. Inspiring Reinforcements could have an alternate effect. Ventari, being entirely ground based, is problematic.

I’m hoping this was a “Roy ran out of time” issue and he plans to add Glint and Jalis under water.

This is what I used. Basic game play was start in Shiro → use Impossible Odds while auto attacking → wait till 0 Energy → Use Enchanted Daggers (usually to recover) → Dwarf → Vengeful Hammers + Unrelenting Assault → wait till 0 Energy → Shiro (repeat). Alternatively use Mallyx and run Embrace the Darkness. Unyielding Assault is amazing for busting Break Bars.

If you get Herald unlocked and want, you can drop Retribution and slot in Herald (even just shield to start with zero traits) and go that route as well but you’d still run Jalis or Mallyx.

Herald was usable right away depending on what you’re doing. Shield has a lot of usefulness and you’re basically trading Retribution out for it. For me I was running around doing HP grab in Tyria so nothing really intensive and the shield was nice when running around as Shiro/Jalis.

Shiro got really good with Hardening Presence as a bulk of my game play is basically flip on Impossible Odds and spam Auto attack and that’s 400 more Toughness when doing that.

Glint Legend wasn’t really useful until Facet of Elements. Strength and the Heal alone are not enough with only the first tier. Most cases you are in Shiro for the in combat on demand Super Speed when skipping around. It got amazing again around Facet of Darkness giving always on Fury when fighting and having Shared Empowerment.

Traveler’s Runes did the bulk of my pre-Herald work. However Shiro’s Impossible Odds on demand Super Speed was also amazing for skipping mobs who put you in combat, cripple you or chill you. Also Phase Traversal can be good as well if it’s heavily or densely populated.

Kodiak.3281

Disclaimer: For XP amounts I did have numerous boosts on (birthday, xp, item, old exp, festival fireworks, halloween food, utility, utility necklace with utility XP infusion, etc).

So first thing I did when I got in was go on my Elementalist and unlock Masteries by doing the first story step. Second thing was get on my Revenant, get through starting area, then did the scroll + tome leveling. At this point I started running around once my gear was relatively sorted out with Traveler’s runes.

Second thing I did was old world content by getting it’s Hero Points. All I did was mostly go after Hero Points with a few events here and there. I had Pact Commander Training. This took around 12 hours total to complete. My route was:

LA -> Metrica -> Brisbain -> Dry Top -> Silverwastes (5/6 – no Vine Wraith) -> Caledon -> Kessex -> Queensdale -> Gendaran -> Hrathi -> Bloodtide -> Sparkfly -> Straight -> Malachor -> Cursed -> Mount Mael -> Timberline -> Dredgehaunt -> Lornar -> Snowden -> Wayfarer -> Diessa -> Plains of Ashford -> Field of Ruin -> Blazeridge -> Iron Marches -> Fireheart -> Frostgorge (not concerned about spelling, you get the idea)

After all that I was Pact Commander 4/5 and with only 30% of world completion done. To be fair however the WPs and HPs seem more valued XP wise than POIs so good chunk of the XP is gone regardless. I also went into EOTM and got a quick WvW rank which gave me the final point so I got 200 out of Tyria.

From there I went into Maguuma. In addition to Gliding needing to be unlocked base, I went Mushrooms next and then Improved Gliding. Most Hero Points are locked behind Improved Gliding or Mushrooms. After that I would unlock Exalted Lore 1 followed by Nuloch Wallows then back to Gliding till Ley Line Gliding.

Verdant Brink – Some low hanging fruit here (literally) but also a lot (around 3) above in Canopy only available during Helicopter (or easily available then). I ended up 9/11 with 1 in the Canopy missed and 1 requiring Nuloch missed.

Auric Basin – Few locked away behind things like Ley Line gliding and presumably more Exalted stuff, ended up 7/11 only.

Tangled Depths – Many are locked away and only ended up with 4/11. Heavy investment in many lines required it seemd for a lot of them but with 200 from Tyria and 200 from here that was Herald.

Dragon’s Stand – Most seemed locked behind the mapwide event.

That was that. Good times, Herald fully done, and back to finish off Pact Commander

Supply Line Mastery Vendors bugged?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

So went ahead and have had Supply Line Mastery unlocked now for a few hours as I tour the various Central Tyria zones working on Pact Mastery and collecting Skill Points on my Revenant.

Rewatching the reveal, I noticed they said these vendors would travel (for safety) but appear on the map.

With 5 zones left to go (eastern edge) I have yet to see a single vendor yet. I also checked with my character with 100% map completion to see if they show on the global map and they do not (that I could see).

Has anyone had success finding any yet or is it bugged and not showing up?

Runes of rage vs runes of strength

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

if i’m not mistaken 150 power = 5% dmg and 150 ferocity = 10% crit dmg
therefore should be: 150 ferocity > 150 power with an average crit chance okitten0%

Thing is that’s 5% base damage though. Using fictional numbers you can see 5% of 1000 is 50 damage. So 2.4 (240%) of 1050 is 2520 where as 2.5 (250%) of 1000 is only 2500. It’s close enough, but still an improvement.

Runes of rage vs runes of strength

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

After thinking about it a lot I went Strength. Mightybird’s assessment is totally right and in most scenarios I will be solo or in a bad group so I will get the most out of the extra stacks of Might. Also the 150 Power vs 150 Ferocity I’m lead to believe that in general 150 power will translate into more damage than 10% more crit damage (but not that much more). The fury duration is largely useless with Herald as you can easily maintain perma Fury even running yourself out of energy, swapping to Shiro, running yourself out of energy, and still have time to get back and have Fury duration. I would use Rage pre-Herald but I’m going to use Travelers while I immediately focus on unlocking Herald so kinda a waste.

Is Herald the next D/D ele?

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

The biggest power to D/D Elementalist is it’s hard counter, heavy boon strip, just isn’t taken in high level play because the builds that take it are just too specific and not good against other match ups.

Revenant on on the other hand is very vulnerable to Condi bomb and light boon strip both of which are far more common and useful against multiple builds and setups. Most Malyx counter play is in baiting a switch similar to baiting an Elementalist into Water. Thing is most people don’t really know how to counter a Revenant yet and the meta will be shaken up enough with specializations that it’ll be difficult to see if Revenant falls into a place where none of it’s counters are meta (similar to D/D Ele) so it ends up reigning supreme.

Revenant's tagging weapon

Kodiak.3281

I don’t know if Elements is going to help really. I’d rather cling hard as hell to my swiftness, and ultimately it is a 15 sec CD and a small radius. I actually think Coalescence of Ruin (hammer 2) might solve the problem you’d have without flat terrain because it isn’t a projectile, it follows the ground to your target and hits everything in between. The halloween zone is generally quite flat anyway, as are many of the non-HoT maps were tagging is important.

CORuin follows the ground if it’s flat and the game doesn’t consider you or your target on an incline. However there are many places in the game where, despite looking like a natural incline, the game won’t see it as such and CORuin will get stopped. There were bug threads about this each BWE (but Roy is aware now).

The maddening part is this can vary greatly from spot to spot even right next to each other. For example a friend and I tried it on the southern LA bridge. Standing in the middle of the base of the bridge, my CORuin was stopped. However on the left side of the bridge his CORuin was not stopped.

Again this is where my whole “If the ground is flat” part comes in, because if it’s not flat then you will only guaranteed get the first tick on CORuin and the other 3 blasts will not trigger. And other than CORuin the only other real ground targeted AOEs we have are Phase Smash (also suffers numerous Z axis errors) and Elements (which as you indicate is on a 15s cool down). Swiftness should be permanent btw as even with just base +15% boon duration (herald minor) you can stack up to 40 seconds of any timed buff.

Builds without Glint or Herald

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

The base game play of the Revenant largely seems based around the idea of draining your energy, swapping to new legend, then draining energy again.

So really Deva/Invo and Shiro are staple. From there it’s simply a question of do you want to drain your energy in Jalis using Vengeful Hammers for more defense or do you want the 10% stat boost using Embrace the Darkness. I imagine there will be a mix of both with people using Traveler’s Runes or runes with similar effect for traveling until they unlock Herald.

Herald day one?

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

I wish they’d tell us how many points we need to unlock all the skills and traits. The fluff items I can wait for, but I do want my full Herald unlocked as soon as possible.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3ph2e1/today_we_will_be_looking_at_the_profession/cw6gt87

From what it sounds like you need to basically unlock things in chunks. So one chunk mentioned is it’ll be 60 points to unlock the Specialization (at least first minor trait, and at least ability to equip shield). Another chunk could be required to unlock the Legend and all Utilities. Another chunk could be required to unlock the remaining traits. Another chunk required for the Herald Shoulder piece.

From there’s it’s just an assessment of the options available. If it takes 160 or 200 skill points to unlock Utilities then getting Traveler’s Runes and using those instead is pretty solid. Conversely if it’s something like 100 points to unlock Herald and we get Glint legend with Swiftness it might be feasible to ride that out.

In either case, depending on what you define as “a day of playing” it is more than possible to get Herald on day one. By that I mean if you put in 2 hours, probably not. You put in 8, 12 or 18 it’s pretty feasible. What I am sure is people going to kitten the hell out of it, come up with an “optimal” route and it’ll eventually be plastered everywhere so it’s kinda not worth worrying about even if you do play fairly casual.

Will Stability be Getting a Buff?

in WvW

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

It is your right to disagree but that doesn’t make it any more valid. What happened to baiting those static fields and using the stun breakers and stab really when needed rather than just be done with all cc for a ridiculously long time?

Baiting Static Fields? Because any proper zerg doesn’t have 4-8 in waiting to throw theirs down if the first one doesn’t stick? I mean get real, Elementalists are absurdly common now and everyone of them knows Static → Earth → Unyielding Earth is the staple combo now for WvW because with only a handful of them doing this on top of other CCs (Spectral Wall, Line of Warding, etc) it’ll strip Stab faster than it could ever be reapplied. I mean baiting is all well and good as far as tactics go but lets not pretend like CC is anything but overly abundant after the stability change.

Kodiak X – Blackgate

Will Stability be Getting a Buff?

in WvW

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

The biggest issue with Stability is two fold:

1. They don’t introduce enough sources of AOE stability into the game. Every front line group is bottlenecked by needing 2 Guardians to remain functional. They added all these front line specializations with Herald, Scrapper, Reaper, Tempest and none of them can give the kind of stability a Guardian can. ANet seems entirely oblivious to what makes “good” stability and that’s 3-5 stacks, with a 20-40s recast with a 3-5s duration AOE. Combos like Armor of Earth + Heat Sync are too long recast and new sources like Inspiring Reinforcements in Revenant Jalis are too static to be useful to a group for WvW.

2. Too many CC types have unlimited number of affected targets. A single Unyielding Earth can strip infinite stability off an infinite number of players for it’s duration. These kinds of line abilities need maximum charges like every other ability in the game and only effect a maximum of 5 targets before they wear out and their effects disappear. This doesn’t affect modes like SPvP because the chances of someone hitting 5 uses in a smaller competitive area would be tiny. CC effects are still strong because they will either strip Stability and catch people without Stability just no longer an entire 40+ group. This also brings it in line with every other AOE in the game by limiting it’s total targets which just makes sense.

WvW Viability and Position Relegation

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

So…. is your argument that it’s not a WvW class since it doesn’t fit into the current paradigm?

Again, I don’t have an argument. I have mechanical information of how it works based on around 60-80 hours across 4 Beta Weekends with Revenant (2 normal Rev, 2 Herald) in Tier 1 WvW. It’s up to you draw your own conclusions based on those mechanics of whether or not it will or won’t fit for your group and server Tier.

Kodiak X – Blackgate

WvW Viability and Position Relegation

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

Fair points, but please look at the facts before you claim my argument is flawed. to say Balanced Stance from warrior is comparable to the level of stability application that a rev can get is a bit mis-leading, Balanced stance is a reactive stun break with swiftenss and 5 stability stacks for 8 seconds. If the devs made your dodge roll on rev a stun break then yes we can have this conversation but as it is, it doesn’t change my argument or point to a flaw in my dialogue. It’s not “The limited acess to stab” it’s “How the stab is applied”

Speaking of looking at the facts, I never at any point claim that Warrior’s Balanced Stance is comparable to the level of stability application that a Revenant can get. What I said was that Warriors “only” get Balanced Stance, which even despite everything you list is not enough by itself to be functional in WvW and still ultimately requires a Guardian. Unless you are filling the group with 4 Warriors and 1 Guardian, that means you will still need a second Guardian for Stability to cover Stability for everyone because Guardians are the only class that are capable of generating two AOE Stabilities at this time on reasonable cool downs (which removes Tempest Armor of Earth + Heat Sync) and a useful form of Stability (which removes Revenant Jalis Inspiring Reinforcements).

You make very valid points but I have to ask would taking rev frontline just to be a boon extender really make it viable as compared to midline or backline? why? where, in your opinion, which you did not answer from what I read, does the rev fall into being the most useful? Still a very thoughtful response, thanks!

I really only try to discuss the facts of the matter and let people form their own opinions.

Back line Revenant largely plays like a janky Necromancer at this time. The only reliable stun break is in Shiro with Riposting Shadows. So when you get caught by Static, and you will, the only option is to retreat backwards usually which puts you into an odd position at times depending on how WvW is going. Going Shiro means you have a weaker heal which if paired with Glint means no Retribution and/or Invocation as well as not having access to a strong flat heal. Glint’s heal can be unreliable if you don’t have it up and prepped especially in 3 way battles when the server lags, it never will prep/activate and you’ll die. This largely leaves Jalis as your alternative which is largely useless for back line but will give you more access to stun break with Rite and minor Condi management with Soothing Stone.

The biggest issue is the Hammer itself. There are a large number of bugs for Hammer that when in bad scenarios can basically leave you without DPS. Roy is aware of these but I am not 100% hopeful for a fix by live. Issues like damage not going to the full display area (or 1200 range) for CORuin as well as Phase Smash not working at all on the Z axis leaves you with some very limited options. I’ve seen some defense fights where you hold the top of the stairs and you simply can’t fire down because CORuin actually stops after the first effect due to the incline (you must be on an incline/stairs for it to go all the way down which puts you into haze range). Now when the damage is there, it’s totally there and it’s rocking. I’ve done up to 14k hits on people cause it got timed perfectly and they got hit twice with CORuin and instantly downed.

WvW Viability and Position Relegation

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

Revenant is capable of filling both backline and frontline roles fairly seamlessly.

Base Revenant is mostly only good for back line duty. It offers very little to groups outside of damage and should focus primarily on damage in a Deva/Invo/Retri Shiro/Jalis Hammer/Staff build (so many slashes).

However Herald is more than capable of holding it’s own on the front line. The staff offers a large number of front line viable tools with block, aoe heal/cleanse/blast, and the ability to use it’s surge as an evade/leap to keep up. Boons are able to fill anything missing but really the prime boost is the 50% boon duration for your party which greatly helps any part you’re plugged into. For example in a front line party those Might stacks from Empower last even longer as well as the ability to provide infinite Fury for your team as well. The most noticeable difference is the increased duration to Stability which lasts a lot longer during an engagement with the boon duration increase. In addition Hammer loses no advantages when put in melee range and in fact only does better as CORuin often times acts like a Shot Gun blast capable of hitting many more targets when up front and things like Projectile Absorb are also more useful when at the front. Also when paired up with Jalis, you also have access to an AOE -50% damage taken for all party members which is pretty kitten powerful when you get into it.

Your stability argument is flawed because really no class in this game gets enough Stability on their own. Even Warriors only get Balanced Stance (self only). Generally speaking every front line group is going to need 2 Guardians to function properly in heavy CC because Arena Net refuses to see the problem (CC’s with unlimited ability to do CC) or do anything about it (give them limited charges or more classes with more Stability). With Warrior in the party, for banners, that leaves 2 open slots. Traditionally you put your Necromancers in these 2 slots because they’re the only class (in GWEN) that, by itself, gets zero stability (Elementalists can run triple cantrip and be 100% fine in their own party).

Really the problem is going to be is that ANet introduced all these new front line classes. Reaper. Scrapper. Herald. The reality comes back to that limited sources of Stability with Guardians being the only class in the game capable of delivering it so ultimately everything is bottlenecked by them. This puts those “2 slots” I talked about heavily contested by other classes between Necros, Reapers, Scrappers, Warriors, Heralds, etc. However as far as group contribution goes, to my knowledge, Herald is the only one that actually contributes back to the group and isn’t just riding along leeching stability due to access to any number of permanent duration boons but also by massively boosting boon duration for everyone in that party.

WvW and the Heart of Thorns Release

in WvW

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

Not a fan of either change. Fridays were great all things considered for reset night. As a North American on North American servers the time was perfect because it gave 3 full weekend like days to really get into WvW. This effectively drags us back to two while adding another “dead” day in WvW at the end of the week (look at Thursday).

Not sure why we’re fixing something that wasn’t broken.

Given the late hour of reset very few game updates happen around that time to fix something that’s an exploit or otherwise. I would rather keep the reset time and risk having WvW reset for emergency updates than change the reset time for something that only occasionally happens.

Basically there’s really no post forthcoming, most of the changes we can expect in a week will be bug fixes and a few other things.

IGuilds are doing it as well just to put their friends in to get their daily rewards on things as simple as dungeons.

Haha right? Anytime I join a group and it’s 4 guildies and then me as the random PUG I add them all to friend’s list juuuuuuuuust in case they get frisky and kick me out so I have their names to fill out to customer service.

Why PPK is a bad idea for WvW

Except isn’t it you who has agreed with me? Insert witty eyebrow raise.

One of your first arguments is that JQ’s superior time zone coverage gives them superior numbers during off hours so their score can’t skyrocket. Except isn’t that also the same basic argument as saying BG outblobs it’s competition? That they’re so big they just run over their competition with fat numbers? Wouldn’t the same logic follow in both scenarios that it’d equal out with JQ picking up it’s kill numbers during off hours? I mean you can look at the score throughout the day and see clearly there’s someone out there taking things back and keeping up PPT so it’s not wholly out of balance?

Also if BlackGate was on a “blackout” to break full status wouldn’t that logic state that for the last two weeks that they wouldn’t be blobbing the servers each time? If overblobbing population was the cause for the improper KDR wouldn’t a blackout prevent said blobbing and provide a more balanced KDR for this week and last week? Yet clearly we see a disproportionate KDR happening. In this context your theory makes no sense and thus falls through.

Also those guilds that left were ones that left a long time ago. Actually they moved to JQ at first to stop it from falling out of T1 because it was starting to free fall and a few others moved to TC. After some drama, as gon happen, they swore they’d push BG out of T1 and when that didn’t happen cause no one in T2 could push up they decided to go to YB to push a server up and disrupt things which only caused TC, predictably, to fall. Over time those guilds/players who left were largely replaced with other groups who filled the gap while they were on JQ and TC long before YB even became a thing.

Still only ever gotten 1 key as a drop (WvW) after change. Gotten numerous Chests.

Again pretty sure this was just to nerf key farming on new F2P accounts.

Flawed logic, I’ll try to make it simple. The most crowded timezone, I think we can all agree on, is NA. JQ is notoriously lacking in NA coverage, where as BG has the most NA coverage of all T1 servers. The KDR simply means you have the most coverage during the busiest timezone, because you can outblob the other servers when you decide to not blackout (like you have been for the past 2 weeks).

Where as JQ for an example, as you stated, have more coverage all around. While that’s true, but who’s there to kill during OCX & EU when JQ has more coverage? KDR doesn’t go up because during the other timezones there’s a serious lack of opponents to fight and kill. And by seriously lacking, I mean there’s not even a map blob anywhere.

KDR only means you have good presence during the busiest timezone. For NA servers, that’s really the 4 hours during NA where all 3 servers have a lot of players but BG can field 2 or even 3 map blobs if they want to. Where as JQ can field 1 map blob at best, sometimes not even that. YB can field 2 map blobs during early NA.

The reason T2 have a more balanced looking KDR is because T2 is all about NA coverage, and pretty much nothing else. So they’re all exchanging kills and deaths during the 4 hours that is NA, and all T2 servers can field respectable numbers during NA. While rest of the time all 3 T2 servers don’t have enough people to matter.

What I’m saying is it has nothing to do with winning fights or losing fights. One would have to be naive in thinking one server really wins that many more fights than the others. When in reality, KDR is all about which server gets to outblob the others during the busiest NA timezone. And if all 3 servers field similar numbers during NA, then KDR would look fairly similar, like they do in T2. In T1 currently, that’s not the case, and it’s not because of winning or losing fights, it’s because some servers can outblob the others.

I’m not against PPK by the way. I do think PPK is a good thing, it’d definitely trigger more fights initially. But if PPK was made permanent, I think you’ll see more running away and less suicide defense when the score gets tight. People would end up taking less chances if they see an unfavorable match during a given siege or open field combat.

Your argument is largely flawed because you seem to think BG is outblobbing other servers. In fact most NA Prime time nights when they going all servers have around the same coverage throughout the week. For example, if you watch on Friday you’ll see when all the maps are queued for all 3 servers BG will not only pull ahead in PPT but also in KDR.

Again the KDR numbers accurately reflect what’s going on. BG (1.44) is outperforming the other servers in engagements, but lacks round the clock coverage. JQ (0.64) is under performing other servers in engagements, but has round the clock coverage to compensate with PPT. YB (0.93) does well in engagements, but super lacks coverage compared to both other servers.

The part you are right is that PPK would impact the way players play. I could possibly see a lot more kitten jamming style game play where two sides are fighting and a third server (all servers do this) tries to take advantage of farming easy points. Running away happens a lot as is so I don’t see that really changing all that much. Probably the worst part of things would be inter-faction fighting as when one guild/group goes out and just dies constantly and feeds the enemy they’ll come under a lot more peer pressure to perform better creating discord internally on each server. To be honest those are the real factors that’d hold this kinda system up (or should) as from a purely mechanical/objective view point they’re great but from a social one they have great potential for harm.

Since focus is on fractals now...

With HOT Fractals are going to be a single instance now, not multiple. So level 50 will always be “X” Fractal with “Y” instability and that’s that. The idea will be more on swapping levels it sounded like such as doing daily achievements such as “Do level 15 Cliffside Fractal and reach the Archdiviner within 5 minutes” and that kinda setup.

In those scenarios they can’t really kick you out because if they invite someone there before that they wouldn’t get credit for it see? So in many ways they are addressing this.

At least in 9 days this won’t be as much of a deal anymore because a Fractal will be only a single instance instead of 4. Nothing worse than going through 3-4 dungeons and someone DC’s or gets kicked on the last one.

When does the key reset? Isn’t there still one reset on the 17? Or do you level a character to 10 and then run the key on reset?

Keys reset on Sundays at 00:00 UTC (19:00 UTC-5 the day before) (this is Saturday in the Americas and Sunday in the EU, Asia, and Oceanic regions). So for a lot of us this will reset on Saturday 10/17 (Sunday 10/18 for people past UTC) which means the next reset after won’t happen until 10/24 (or Sunday 10/25 again for people past UTC). This means you can create a Revenant on 10/23, instant level it to 80, then go do the personal story level 10 step (takes 15 mins tops) and get your key that way instead of having to wait a full day for the reset to happen to do the personal story on the Revenant without wasting a key.

Here’s the only thing I’ll be curious about with the Personal Story: Doing the math on all my characters (I keep a spread sheet of characters and where they’re at) I have over 57 chapters worth of Personal Story to do across 16 characters (which includes 16 from my two new Revenants which will both be 80 on 10/23). Each Chapter is roughly 3-6 odd missions usually worth quite a bit of XP so if they wanna make Personal Story count I’m all for that. Lotta decent rewards (tons of T6 mats) from Personal Story and I’ve mapped it out for the fastest choices across all characters at the prime decision points. You add in something like a Celebration Booster or otherwise that increases XP from all sources…kablam.

I doubt you will. You can go start Living Story Season 2 right away without ever doing Personal Story pretty sure. I imagine it’ll just be added into there right after LS2 and it’s up to you if you wanna jump ahead.

Ok that makes sense. I assume the Hot specific masteries are an option and activated once you enter those maps. I did not want to spoil the new content so I only played the story part, got in the map, seen a bunch of crap for masteries pop on my screen then left!

There’s two sets of masteries. One for Tyria. One for Maguuma. If you are in Tyria, anything*** you do in Tyria goes towards the Tyria Mastery. So far the 3 announced Tyria Masteries are Fractal Mastery, Precursor Crafting Mastery, and Pact Commander. The other Maguuma Masteries only unlock if you earn XP in Maguuma. These are masteries you saw during BWE3 such as Gliding, Itzel, Exalted, etc.

So at one time you can have a Tyria Mastery active for earning and a Maguuma Mastery for earning.

The “anything” part is we’re not 100% what will work in old content to gain XP towards masteries. A lot of the game play gives XP. World Completion. Events. Crafting. Dungeons. Fractals. Personal Story. WvW events. There’s a lot of XP there but we’re not sure what will and won’t feed into Masteries. For example lets play devil’s advocate and say Crafting gives Mastery Xp. That would potentially obliterate the prices in the market as people could throw money at crafting and unlock all the crafting professions to max on all their 80 Toons. Only thing we know for sure is world completion, kills and events so far should be contributing towards it. Personal Story may not, which would be disappointing. Fractal XP could be the only way to raise Fractal Mastery for all we know. There weren’t a lot of specifics unfortunately so best to be prepared for all scenarios.

Kodiak.3281

Well that is good to know. I have a question though. I assume you are going to insta 80 then start the personal story, but how do you unlock the ability to get the mastery so you can jump into the old content and start earning exp from step one? I assume we are going to have to get a character to do the little story part and enter the Hot map?

So when I was doing the BWE3 I went to Cursed Shore on my Revenant to test the Eye for an Eye change against Abominations. Soon as I entered Cursed Shore it unlocked both Fractal Mastery and Legendary Precusor Crafting Mastery. I wasn’t able to actually select these Masteries in Tyria but that was what unlocked them. Presumably they’ll be set to unlock a specific thing and you can do them. For example most of Maguuma’s Masteries are set when you enter a specific area/place or complete a specific thing then Mastery started to unlock.

I also presume that the Pact Tyria Commander mastery comes either from completing the personal story mission (designed for 80). So presumably if I log into my level 80 Elementalist who has EVERYTHING done not only will get I get a large number of Mastery points from completed content (such as Living Story Season 2, etc) but hopefully unlock all the Mastery tracks he’d be eligible for.

Regardless this step could be done within time on the first day and still complete your key and begin working on Personal Story etc on the Revenant shortly there after.

I was prepping to setup my weekly Black Lion Key Farm character today for the weekly reset on Saturday when I realized that I didn’t need to!

With HOT Launching on 10/23 that means my Revenant will be made on 10/23 and I can do the level 10 story right away for a Key before reset on 10/24.

This way in case the Personal Story contributes towards Mastery XP and you wan to go full in with that right away you can do that without having to wait a day to not waste that first Black Lion key on Chapter 1.

Why PPK is a bad idea for WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

I don’t think PPK does that. I think the only thing PPK does is feed egos (because we’re always better than the guys we’re fighting and I’m sure if PPK was in place we’d win).

But, egos aside, what if that was the factual scenario happening? Are you saying you shouldn’t let the server that was better and won more of their fights let that be a contributing factor (not the only factor) towards winning?

Kodiak.3281

PPK is a joke as it stands right now. While I hate to tell you all this, but as a non lvl 80, I typically see 5-10 people coming in for the kill. Does that show the type of skill that some “un-named” guilds require a pack to be able to beat low levels or even hunt for 1 player? They aren’t truly 1 on 1. Unless you can void the kill/death rate if more than 1 person hits you, it’s pointless. But if you manage to beat multiple people, then the points counts toward kill not death. Death must not be tagged by more than 1 person. Level 80 beating uplevels shouldn’t count too. Uplevels beating level 80 needs to count. Give handicap where it’s needed.

First off, WvW isn’t fair. If you don’t want 1v5 then don’t run around as 1. If you don’t want Uplevels to count then they shouldn’t be in WvW at all. It’s really that simple.

Second off your theory is off because it’s not supported by the numbers. If every server had a positive KDR (IE: 5 people killing 1 person counted kitten kills) then it’d match up but it doesn’t. You can actually see one server has more kills than deaths and the other servers have more deaths than kills. All that’s measured is one person died and the side who got that kill got one kill credit.

The exact flawed statement I was looking for. BG is a server full of guilds that only ganks uplevels and solos. JQ is a server that is full of uplevels and k-trainers. YB is a server that is full of siege humpies. Death/Kill ratios go home. Horrible way to measure any server skills.

You were looking for a post to reply with a bunch of assumptions, conjecture and overly broad to the point of being inaccurate generalizations? KDR actually represents what really happens. JQ has a lot of round the clock coverage so they win simply because numbers but they lose fights. YB has less coverage and gets wiped all the time in off hours but during prime time has good coverage and teams capable of fighting. BG wins most of it’s fights but lacks the full time coverage of JQ. PPK in this scenario would benefit BG because while it wins most of the time, it simply loses when JQ is able to keep map presence throughout the week which would lower the gap between the two.
