The problem with the brittle bones argument is he knows he could break his bones every game but in the game effect case if i’ve seen it 100 times without issue im probably not thinking the 101st is going to make me seize

Repeating the same thing over and over doesn’t invalidate the point.

They’re doing something that is potentially dangerous for themselves regardless if it’s a 1:101 chance or a 1:1000 chance or a 1:10 chance. That’s on them for putting themselves in that chance. Whether it’s a UI element or a repeated spell effect in game by putting themselves in a scenario where they can be triggered it’s a poor decision at best. There reaches a point where a person much accept and take responsibility for the situation they find themselves in. It sucks and isn’t fair that this is their situation but it’s theirs none the less. If they want to continue, it’s on them to accept responsibility for their choice to continue in a risky activity for themselves.

The “brittle bones” kid example is obviously a hyperbolic one to show a person willfully putting themselves into a harmful situation. You wouldn’t demand they change the rules of the game in their scenario, so why demand this game be changed for another issue? From an, admittedly, heartless cost/benefit ratio decision the likely case it’s more beneficial for them to tell you to accept the game as is than spend time paying someone to redesign something like this. Look at another live example of lack of support for a color blind mode.

Also like i said in my previous post you could see some sort of effect in the game 100 times and the 101st it can make you trip, that might sound odd to you but its true .

That doesn’t really negate the point. The guy with brittle bones could play Football and never break a bone on 100 plays and on the 101st shatter every bone in an arm. In either example if you know something can trigger you then you probably shouldn’t be partaking in it or accept the consequences from poor decisions. Again, not a laughing or dismissive tone here just a pragmatic one.

Well arnt you the insensitive one . Epilepsy is a tricky thing you can be playing a game perfectly fine for hours and rare visual effect you’ve seen 100 times before can make you trip the 101st . I havent personally unloked the Herald yet so i cant speak to if it would cause me problems yet but i’m taking the OP at their word that it made them and that ANet should at minimum look into the problem . I’ve had seizures my entire life and know what causes the them as im sure the OP knows what causes theirs so to tell them not to play a game over something that could easily be fixed by the devs is insanity . Seizures are no laughing matter so if its something the devs can fix they should end of story .

It’s not insensitive, it’s just a matter of fact. I mean if you trigger off something that minor then you got it bad and honestly there’s any number of effects that go on in just about any game that I can think of from blinking UI elements to flashing spell effects you just shouldn’t be playing these kinds of games. It’s no different than saying someone with brittle bones shouldn’t be playing football. I mean look, it sucks, they got a raw deal but that’s just the way it is. No one is laughing.

In fact, which is why I doubt the OP even has epilepsy, is because I’ve never known anyone who does have epilepsy to say something about the condition with such casual disregard such as “I was laying on the floor dooling and shaking "

So I brought this up during BWE2 that I also didn’t care for the root. Roy’s response was, basically, if it doesn’t root then it’ll have to be “heavily rebalanced.” I took that to mean basically it wouldn’t heal anymore.

Now while the skill is not useful for WvW or high mobility situations, it’s pretty great in PvE and that’s where I use it. Most cases I prefer Axe for WvW roam so that isn’t a huge loss.

Basically you treat it like a 3rd mini heal. Combined with Infused Light, which can heal for very little, and Enchanted Daggers, which also heals for a little, it makes for 3 smallish heals that can work well together.

Revenant vs. Elementalist in PvE only

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

I prefer the Revenant coming from an Elementalist. It’s much more mobile DPS and hammer gives us all the AOE tagging that Staff ever did. It’s also mechanically very simple and you get a ton of passive survivability as well as active survivability by going shield/glint. I get away running full Zerker in the jungle because of it, which honestly is pretty cool. On demand Super Speed NEVER gets old regardless of content.ccccccc

The main difference is Elementalist has much better utility selection all around because they can select their utilities. Most of the time you’ll likely be in Glint and Shiro but there’s times where you just need a single utility from another Legend and your only option is to swap everything else out. Like other day I needed boon strip, I had to drop Shiro (which is a lot of DPS) and put on Mallyx for a single utility. Conversely an Elementalist can go, “Oh I need a lot more defense, I’ll equip Glyph of Storms and get AOE Blind.”

Seems to me that if your epilepsy is triggered by such a minor thing that you probably shouldn’t be playing video games in the first place.

And while I think the whole epilepsy thing was brought up for shock value and likely isn’t true all it’s going to do is get a warning thrown in like every other video game to date.

So who's loving herald???

in Revenant

Kodiak.3281

After playing during BWE0 when it was Mallyx/Jallis/Ventari and BWE1 when it was the base Revenant it’s certainly viable and plenty of builds pre-Revenant that were doing fantastic in all game modes.

However Herald adds huge quality of life improvements over the base revenant on top of some incredible burst survivability that make it seem necessary. In addition to their boon benefits, there are a number of great attacks in Herald which is great compared to other lackluster lines like Jalis or Mallyx.

Revenant WvW Driving Build

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

Driving really depends on tier and what meta is being used. Some tiers favor pirate ship meta and other tiers favor the old GWEN style meta of melee pushes and bombs.

Can you be more specific what kind of tier you are in and what style of command play that you have?

There are a number of other issues with build, weapon selection and Facet usage that we can correct after we get that information.

I do hope we see bug fixes before then, but then when I remember that other classes have long standing bugs that weren’t fixed for years I figure we’ll probably have to live with them for a while.

Looking for a leveling build

From 1-10 use Sword. If you need an Offhand, either Sword or Axe works roughly the same with Sword offering more Defense and Axe offering more CC. At 10 you want to continue using Sword/Sword and now Hammer. Hammer is useful for tagging events and with a proper Power based setup does very well.

First Legend you should unlock is Legendary Assassin. Getting up to Impossible Odds is “enough” and don’t need to go further early on. Save points for maxing out Trait Line. Sitting in Assassin just using Impossible Odds and Auto Attack should do the bulk of your work against single targets. The second legend can be Jalis, more defensive, or Mallyx, more offensive when unlocked, but early on your points should be focused on unlocking the first trait line fully.

First Trait Line you should get/max out is Corruption. The main reason for this is because of Maniacal Persistence. This might be a controversial choice, but honestly 10% crit every second in combat is huge early on and lower level when you don’t have decent crit rating. Even with a lot of precision, when you are lower level you won’t get much crit, like even in fully Ascended at 80 I drop from 40% crit to 15% crit from precision so boons like Fury and buffs like MP are great early on. Some people suggest Invocation, for Fury access, but honestly you don’t get enough Fury access yet to really make advantage of Roiling Mists until Herald.

Second Trait line can be Invocation or Devastation. Invocation is great cause it boosts Fury which is more crit. Devastation works because Maniacal Persistence gives you enough steady crit to take advantage of all that Ferocity. Either method really works, as around this level you will mostly have access to gear that adds Power/Ferocity so getting more Crit works or going more Ferocity works too.

Third Trait Line is usually whatever you didn’t pick for second. However since this is 71 you should have a fairly good handle on things.

At 80, when going for Herald, it is viable to use the third line once you unlock Facet of Nature. You can use One with Nature for Swiftness, then Impossible Odds for Super Speed to run around full speed. However I generally didn’t find Herald worth it until I got Darkness but your mileage will vary.

WvW Revenant Front-Liner

NP Garimeth.

I wouldn’t use hammer in a front line build if I were you.

The fact that the weapon does not cleave makes it subpar for that role alone. It has 1200 range too… why not use it RANGED and not take damage. The attacks on hammer are all slow long range nukes. The weapon can be used melee range but its just beyond mediocre

Ignoring the fact that we would want to use Staff alongside Hammer to give us cleave, defense and leap the Hammer itself has arguably the best cleave in the game. The reason for this is because of the way CORuin works.

CORuin is 3 forward blasts each of which is capable of hitting 5 targets. That means 15 potential targets with a single ability cast on a 2 second recast. This is in addition to the fact that it’s a ground based attack which means it can’t be reflected similar to a Guardian’s Staff spam attack only with less wide area and far greater distance. When lined up correctly, and the ground not working against you, it’s capable of some tremendous damage per cast.

But, as I said previously, this is more of a stand off scenario weapon. For example if you’re going to feint it makes no sense sitting there with a staff in your hand with no ability to do anything. If your commander isn’t going to commit to pushing the enemy the hammer gives you the ability to absorb projectiles 50% of the time as well as heavy ranged nuke support from the front. However upon engagement it’s likely you’ll want to drop Hammer for Staff (for the leap alone to stay on tag) unless you’re just one pushing them and then the CORuin damage is far superior even up front than Staff can dish out.

Other weapon combos are, generally speaking, inferior. I gave both Mace and Sword a lot of tries (seen in my vids). Mace had a lot of potential cause of the triple blast finisher, but the way it’s done (blast > blast > blast – rather than all 3 in one spot) it makes it hard to aim with the leap and largely impractical short ranged weapon. Sword, while great cleave, offers really nothing else as the Axe and Shield are largely useless in a larger setting compared to Staff. While Mace did have some short ranged attacks, neither option really compared to Hammer during ranged stand off scenarios leaving you to sit there largely useless.

why is tempest so bad?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

Tempest is basically a “me too” line for the standard PvE Fire/Air build. Where before we had the general “whatever” options of Water (10% dmg, some healing, aura share) or Arcane (Vigor, Evasive Arcana, some boons) now we also get Tempest as a third option.

If you’re capable of getting in melee some of the overloads do more damage than our autos so you can use them to fill that in. Otherwise it’s the same base class we had before. We don’t have a new role. We don’t have a new play style. It’s just another filler line for the same role and play style we had before.

This is the only sense most people have made out of the Tempest. Tempest as a trait line doesn’t have enough defense to replace Water/Arcane and it doesn’t have any offense to replace Fire/Air. One could argue this is a good thing, because it’s different, but then that’s pretty much ignoring the fact different doesn’t mean useful.

WvW Revenant Front-Liner

Kodiak.3281

This is my WvW Front Line build from BWE3

Like any front line character you need a group with a Guardian for Hold the Line’s stability. The dodge roll by itself won’t work because you have to preemptively dodge and that doesn’t work against instant Statics on top of your head.

Primarily run Darkness and Nature. Use Strength and Elements actives for AOE damage. Glint active can be used when you’re confident you won’t push people out of a range bomb. If you run into trouble such as low energy you can release Nature after Stabilities have been used, but should be kept on prior to it. This also gives full compliment of boons right before engagement usually.

Staff is the primary melee weapon. If commander leaps, use Surge to leap with them. Evade should see you through most things. Warding Rift if burst gets really bad and you need another CD when going in or getting out. Again, a lot of damage comes from Elements/Strength actives so mostly focus on those. Save Renewing Wave if possible to blast water during refreshes.

Hammer is primarily used for ranged harass or on engagement using CORuin like a shot gun. Field of the Mists is clutch for projectile negation when on the front. Phase Smash can be used to pop necro marks while evading.

Jalis is your “oh !@#$” legend if things went really bad on engagement. After switching, you should immediately do Rite of the Great Dwarf. This will immediately give you and your party -50% damage taken on top of anything else. After that you can heal for a pretty large heal and condi removal. Vengeful Hammers is also useful for damage reduction and tagging if you’re continuing on a second pass through the enemy. Inspiring Reinforcements sounds good, but honestly it’s just more damage cause you won’t be in it long enough to take advantage of Enhanced Bulwark’s good stability.

Trait wise few possibilities. I prefer Cruel Repercussion because you’ll notice on Hammer a lot of times CORuin will get blocked due to Guardian’s Aegis generation. This makes the next one hit like a freight train (make sure not to target anyone to not waste this on an auto attack). Radiant Revival I found a lot of success getting commanders up with because people like to pin snipe a lot. My build doesn’t require Hardening Persistance.

Stats wise we’ll end up with 60% crit, 205% crit damage, 2500 power, 3100 armor and 18k base HP which is more than enough to survive and deal tons of damage.

This build can be used in nearly any setting that requires high survivability yet strong damage. I’ve actually found myself enjoying it’s use in HOT quite a bit as well with a few modifications. If you are in WvW and can’t get a group with at least one Guardian in it (you usually need 1 Guardian to give you initial stab) then I play the same build as back line primarily using the Hammer instead of Staff and just farming bags with CORuin.

I also have some Youtube videos out there under WvW Front line game play as well.

As a person with a great computer I crash all the time. This isn’t because of my computer, my internet connection, or otherwise but because the client isn’t designed to handle the kind of graphics it wants to put out during large scale events. The only solution is to basically take this amazing looking game and turn into to lowest graphic options and hope the client won’t crash OOM.

This game has long since needed a 64 bit client so these crashes won’t occur and no matter how “heavy” the lift it should be a priority if they want to keep designing large scale events in zones. Or they should keep the events small so there aren’t these kinds of issues. Up to them, but do one or the other.

Specifically: Bashing Bauxite Alchemicals in acquiring “Inquest Data Crystal” as part of this collection.

Bashing bauxite Alchemicals as a chain of events under Jinx Island in Malachor’s Leap. However there’s many issues with this event. For one the team that’s supposed to go in there gets stuck in the walls when fighting the Perimeter cannons so they never complete the step and just get stuck in the walls.

Apparently the only fix for this is hope the next time the server map resets from a patch that it will be fixed and working.

Because the step “Escort the elite WHispers strike team to the secret Inquest base entrance” never completes, the facility never opens. Because the facility never opens, we’re unable to retrieve the “Inquest Data Crystal” which is required to complete this collection and finish the spear unless we randomly check after patches and hope that it’s fixed or working.

Please consider moving the Crystal elsewhere, such as around the Omicron Facility to the East or fixing this event chain and all it’s bugs (I hear it’s bugged in other parts as well) so we can complete this collection.

CoF Farming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

I really don’t get why some people have an issue with this.

I am fully done with my Tyria Masteries. 5/5 Pact, 4/4 Fractal, 4/4 Legendary. I also did ZERO dungeons. It was all gained spending my first 4 days in game on my Revenant doing world completion.

My first and foremost question is how does anyone else farming COF diminish what I accomplished? The typical argument is that the COF farm goes much faster. However what does that matter? I did World Completion and I still have to spend inordinate amounts of time in Central Tyria farming SIlverwastes and Drytop as well as Fractals and numerous other kinds of content.

See that’s the problem with COF. It’s just XP. It’s no loot, no karma, just mastery XP. Mastery XP you’re going to get abundance of while farming the loot and karma. It’s the fastest yet least efficient route possible.

Let people just play the game they want. If it isn’t adversely affecting you it seems like a huge waste of energy being upset over something that really doesn’t matter.

Underwhelming mobility wvw

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

There’s two kinds of mobility. In combat and out of combat.

Out of Combat, Herald is pretty much unparalleled in the game. Even when using stances like Shiro the 12s of Swiftness from One with Nature still gives you Swiftness let alone Facet of Elements.

In Combat we’re still one of the most mobile classes in the game. I mean Impossible Odds is literally on demand super speed, which is the same as out of combat Swiftness even when in combat. Phase Traversal, even with kitten cd, is one of the most spammable range mobility moves in the game. Mallyx has a leap that leaves behind a pit that chills/torments with no cool down. In addition to these legends we also get weapon mobility moves like Surge of the Mists and Frigid Blitz.

I understand going out in WvW and dying is frustrating. However WvW roaming is dominated by heavy Condition play which is going to run counter to us. Mobility has never been our issue, but rather simply other mobile classes that can also apply a lot of Condi that we can’t counter.

Shield Off Hand

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

The simple answer is that Shield is basically a weak version of a 3rd heal. Envoy can be used on the go for a small 1k heal and protection which is enough protection to negate the next hit basically. Crystal Hib can be used to mitigate all sorts of next hit abilities and the heal isn’t too shabby from it basically equal to the weak initial heals of Enchanted Daggers or Infused Light. For PvE I find it generally more useful than Axe and OH Sword.

Herald 2 (250/250)
Elementalist (250/250)
Scrapper (250/250)
Reaper (250/250)

Then various other amounts on other characters at least up to 30 to unlock the basic collections for the class weapons. Like, it’s so easy to get Hero Points now. Once you do them a few times you get them down on a pattern and even throwing up a Mentor tag and asking if people want to join you is enough to get a Hero Point train rolling (which I’ve done multiple times now through Auric Basin and Tangled Depths). Hell Dulfy has video guides showing you how to knock these out with videos which even if you casually play for an hour a day you could have done by now.

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

Oh boy, another one of these threads. I’ma just educate you a bit on Revenant weaknesses:

1. Revenants have virtually zero condition removal. The two main ones are removal on Legend Swap and the Jalis heal. The way they manage conditions is we’re forced to go into Mallyx for Resistance but that is vulnerable to boon strip/corrupt. We basically get no way to remove boons. The alternative way is to use Infused Light to heal through them, but that’s only 3 seconds so sustained condition damage is unmanageable.

2. Revenants are all damage. Very few if any of our abilities do any kind of CC. We get a stun in Hammer. We get a chain knockback in Staff. A pull in OH Sword. We don’t really have any kind of way to really stop people from doing channels and the like. Most of our soft CC is a joke.

3. We also get very few ways to deal with CC. We get one stun break in Glint, one in Jalis, one in Shiro only which Shiro is “spammable” and the others have longer durations/recasts. We get almost no stability outside of dodge rolls. Heavy repeated CC can mitigate us pretty fast.

Essentially Revenants are an all damage/mobility class similar to the thief. The bulk of our damage negation comes from Crystal Hibernation, a block/heal, and Infused Light which people are still healing us off of because people don’t yet know what to look for. When they do it’ll be less of an issue. However if you try to barrel through the Revenant and just overpower it things won’t work well for you because they’re designed to counter that kind of game play.

Revenant Changes 28/10

in Revenant

Posted by: Kodiak.3281

Kodiak.3281

These changes concern me. Not because they weren’t needed or unjustified but because it’s too much too quickly. What they need to be doing is small, small iterations. Try increasing the cool down on Crystal Hibernation. Is that not enough? Okay decrease the amount of time healed on Infuse Light. Doing too much too fast doesn’t really show where the issues truly are. There’s no easy way to walk back on these changes if we suddenly were to turn into dead meat because was it Infused Light or Crystal Hibernation?

This is especially true with something like Infuse Light which has such potential to be a nothing heal and boom…your heal is now wasted.

5. I’m resuming World Completion and about 70% with nothing but 1-10 and 15-25 zones left and and the capital cities.

When I finish I will be Mastery Rank 55 with all Tyria masteries unlocked and I get to craft “The Flameseeker Prophecies” as all I was missing was World Completion. This will complete everything for me in Tyria so I can focus entirely on daily Tyria activities (World bosses, fractals, etc) and HOT.

I used /wiki <zone name> a lot when looking to make an optimal route when the maps were undiscovered in Tyria.

There’s a bit more that goes into this beyond just Condi vs Power.

For example I’ve been doing world completion and I’m now in the last 9 zones that are all noob zones and I one shot everything with a Hammer. But there’s a lot that goes into that. In addition to the fact that I am 80 in full Ascended Berserker gear, I also am a Herald and have perma Fury running. This is important because when you down rank you lose most of your crit. I only have 15% base crit, but with Perma Fury I’m boosted to a unheard of 55% for low level content. This means if I crit, I pretty much am going to one shot something.

My Necromancer actually is rediculous on a Power Build and my Plague Blasts in Shroud hit just as hard as Hammer on a Rev.

1. Sword+???. Shield works good with Herald. Sword Offhand is okay for block. Sword is the staple melee option for dps.

2. Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing as it covers most of what we use. Staff is the only exception under Artificer. Really crafting is more of an account level thing.

AUTOLOOT BUG

The work around is to disable the Auto Loot – Quick Loot option in the Options which will return you back to manual looting.

Sucks, but at least you can play.

Herald Unlocked (Fully) some tips!

I get what you’re saying.

However when you get down to it, it’s probably the best way to do things. There’s a lot of masteries available in Tyria. Pact Commander (Auto Loot). Fractal Mastery (makes Fractals worth doing). Of course the Precursor Crafting as well (for all your legendary needs). I am currently at around 50%ish world completion since Friday and with my boosts I’ve gotten Pact Commander 5/5, Fractal 4/4 and Legendary 1/4. That means by time I am done with base Central Tyria world completion on my Revenant I’ll be done with Central Tyria masteries. I can fully go into HOT without having anything left to do.

Where as if I was on my Elementalist, I had full world comp done. I would go into HOT but have to ultimately go back to Tyria and slowly grind at events like some people are doing currently which is taking them forever to get those base Masteries.

So I’m okay with doing Tyria first before HOT. Nice to get it out of the way and then just be able to grind HOT and only go back to Central Tyria for specific things.

After reading this and some other posts where people expressed wanting to not play through all the new content before getting their elite unlocked, I decided I would spend some time grabbing skill points in Tyria today.

As soon as I get to 85, I am swapping in the Herald line and heading back to HoT. I am going to keep using Jalis/Shiro until I get Facet of Elements unlocked, then will switch to Glint/Jalis.

Matter of time. Spend 15 minutes getting 5 points running around Tyria, or spend hours grinding a HOT Mastery up to rank 3/4/5/6 so you can get the required Mastery unlocked to get the hero point. Considering you also need Fractal Mastery 3/4 to make them reasonably profitable to do it’s not really time wasted. Getting 200 in Tyria and 200 in HOT seems the most reasonable route.
