New Player Need Help/Advice

I would suggest not WvWing until you’re at least level 30 so that you have access to more skills.

Crafting can actually be really good exp, but you probably won’t be able to mass level from it right now. I remember on one character I was like level 69 and had a crafting session and came out level 76 or something. I would suggest to harvest nodes you see. Rich mine veins are nice cause they give you more materials.

I suggest spending 10 silver to buy the trait book as soon as you can. You can find them at class trainers in towns. Their icon should be a book.

What I would do on leveling characters is to generally do the story missions until the story missions are higher level than me. Then I would go to a zone in my level range and 100% complete it by getting all the points of interests/waypoints/vistas/hearts/skill point challenges. Then after that I would go back to my story. Then again once the story mission was higher than me I would go to a different zone and 100% complete that.

Events are a pretty good way to get experience. Not only that but often you can complete an event and get credit for a nearby heart quest at the same time. This is really the best way to complete hearts.

If you find blue or green rarity items you won’t use just sell them at a vendor (or alternatively salvage them, but I don’t really do that except on white rarity gear). It’s not worth the time to try to sell them on the trade post and often you’ll actually make less money because of the listing fee.

I have 5 characters. One thing that I’ve noticed in regards to the story is that they use NPCs from the storylines of the races. For instance Professor Gorr will make references too his research but you don’t really know what he’s talking about until you do the Asura storyline revolving around Professor Gorr. If you choose the mirror mission Tegwen mentions having gone in the mirror before but you don’t know what she’s talking about unless you play as a sylvarri and do that story arc.

It does make doing the stories on multiple races much more interesting, but it also makes your initial playthrough a little underwhelming.

I dunno, stealthing is kind of the thief’s thing. So I’d be hesitant in suggesting to get rid of that functionality. However I do think that the FINISH THEM functionality shouldn’t be able to be affected in any way by any class.

For something that costs so much, with maybe a few exceptions, the cultural armor doesn’t really look better than other options out there. I’ll be avoiding T3 armor like the plague. It’s like being a commander. I don’t see why I should bother with it at all.

The reason why it seems like in MMOs in general that people are always upset is that people are more motivated to post when they dislike something as opposed to liking it. There were some things I didn’t like about the event (like how the jumping puzzle was done in groups) but overall I liked the event and I hope the dev team doesn’t get discouraged and lose sight of their design philosophy for future events.

The boss was cool.. but the instance itself was really short. Most people seemed to like doing it to farm it for the end chest.

Spent $0 and I don’t plan on spending any money in the foreseeable future. I had a small stash of keys but didn’t get a skin. That’s ok though. If I did get a skin I just would have sold it on the trading post anyways since some of them were going for lots of goldz.

Tried 4 or 5 times, then said “nope, I’m’a farm some more candy corns.” Been happy since.

When I made this map I was HOPING that people who aren’t into jumping would do exactly this. They’d see a fun Halloween looking environment, maybe get to the first chest and snag a goodie, then be on their merry way. I see now it was a mistake to make the hardest jumping challenge in the game part of an in-your-face update like a holiday event. I’m not going to stop making difficult stuff like this, they just won’t be so prominent in the future. I honestly hate making people upset and have a very high level of empathy. So it’s been hard hearing all the people that are so angry, frustrated and sad because of something I’ve made. But it’s just another lesson learned.

I think that if you want something to both be accessible and challenging, that you need to have 2 different versions of the same thing. If you make a ‘normal’ mode and a ‘hard’ mode then you get the best of all worlds. I hope you consider doing this in the future.

I think overall the reason people were frustrated with it is because the clock tower was tied to an achievement. People view achievements like crack (including myself) and get frustrated when they can’t get one. Alternatively you could just not tie the challenge stuff like this with an achievement.

I’m just saying there are ways around the issue besides just dumbing down the puzzle and I hope you take this into consideration.

I’m at the personal story mission The Steel Tide. It’s the arc near the end when you choose artifact, boat, or tank assault. This is the tank one. Anyways I go in the tank and fire and it jerks my camera to the side after each shot. Also when I tried to turn the cannon it would eject me from the tank and turn the cannon all the way to the side. It was impossible to use the tank which I think breaks the entire mission. I tried using a mortar but it didn’t seem like the story was advancing since I was using it for awhile.

The issue with the camera zooming out too far isn’t an issue of choice. The problem is that you HAVE to be zoomed out as far as possible in PVP. In PVP the choice is either to nerf yourself or not nerf yourself.

WvW - Sentries hold no REAL significance

The sentries are 1 veteran npc guarding a path area. They are total push overs and are EASILY soloable. I would like to see the sentries buffed in some manner. Like maybe there are 2 veteran NPCs, if not 3. Something like that. As it stands now the sentries serve no real purpose other than dying and letting someone complete an event.

Here are a couple things I think the dev team can take from this event to make similar future events less frustrating for everyone:

1. Make it an instance where you can go alone or with a team of 4 other people. This essentially gives people the option if they want to go it alone or not. Most people were not too pleased with having to do the jump puzzle with other people.

2. Make a normal version and a hard version. The normal version would give the bare bones rewards (achievement, maybe some other minor stuff) while the hard version gives better rewards (same stuff as normal, but with like an exotic gear for instance). To use the current jump puzzle as an example, the normal version would give the achievement and the tonics while the hard version gives those and the mad king’s boots. Difficulty options in general is something that I like and something that I haven’t seen many MMORPGs do (with some exceptions like DDO).

Essentially, keep the difficulty that same as it is now. However closer to the end of the event make it easier by making the green globbidy goo rise slower. That way the people who claim that they do it for the challenge can still do it for the challenge by doing it now, and then the people who are unable to complete it but want to can do so later. There is no title tied to the jumping puzzle (I think) so I don’t see a problem with this.

I think they should have it give some good stuff, but maybe increase the timer on the boss. It doesn’t need to be 3 hours like the dragons but 30 minutes seems a little. I know ArenaNet probably wants everyone to be able to see the boss but the boss is completely optional and there are other events that go on in the zone to keep people occupied. Not to mention all the mats.

Ideally the jumping puzzle should be treated as an instance. So that you can go there and be alone or take up to 4 friends with you to do it together.

I think it notifies you if you turn game messages on in the chat window. The problem with that, however, is that whenever you receive an item it will tell you it in chat which is really annoying.

I’ve had this issue for awhile now. Never has been fixed yet so maybe it hasn’t been reported. But I can’t use the toolbelt ability to explode my rocket turret while I’m underwater.

The 3rd season is almost over so I doubt they could get it into the 3rd season. It would have to be the 4th season if there is one. It would be cool because I watch Face Off but I’m guessing the producers of Dishonored had to fork some cash over to get that spot and I’m not sure if ArenaNet is willing to do that.

Voice bug at Asura story mission

On my Asura I had chosen to join the Durmand Priory. Then I had to do the mission A Meeting Of The Minds. At the end the subtitles said something like “once you’ve settled into the Durmand Priory” but Zojja said “once you’ve settled into the Vigil.” It’s a small bug but I thought I’d mention it regardless.

I would prefer 0% fee rate. But I’m probably in the minority on that. I think marketeering is fun but it becomes less so the higher the fees are.

I feel that the reason there is no person to person trade system is because Anet doesn’t want people to bypass the auction house. They want it so that you have to mail the item, which makes selling outside the auction house risky.

People think that if there is no fee that prices will skyrocket. That is not the case.

First off I’ll fully admit that this is a feature in another game. But it’s a good feature. Anyways currently in Guild Wars 2 you ctrl+t to set the target on an enemy so that players know what to attack. In a different MMORPG called Rift they have a superior system where you can mark targets with numbers. This way people know what order to kill things in. It works out very well because everyone is on the same page before the fight. You can also put numbers over allies so that you can do things like “all ranged at number 8, all melee at number 7.” I admit that this system really shines in raid teams but I still don’t really see a downside to this system so I don’t see why not. Instead of ctrl+t you could set it to like ctrl+number or something. And hitting T could target whatever the creature with the lowest number is that is still alive. That way the current functionality doesn’t really change.

Pets, in general, are always too squishy in MMORPGs.

The ranger pet swap has a cooldown. And against champions or higher forget it. When your pet dies in like 2 seconds swapping isn’t going to help. People who say that their ranger pet never dies, I have to question how much of the game you are actually playing.

I have a problem with necromancer pets, and that’s they don’t regen out of combat. Only 2 of the pets can explode, which means in order to regen the hit points of your other pets you have to swap out the skill for a different one, and then equip the pet skill again so that your pet dies. I don’t mind so much when a necromancer pet dies in combat because I have more pets, but when the ranger pet constantly dies it’s kind of annoying.

I remember when I played Rift they gave all pets a bonus to defense towards AoE attacks. I didn’t hear anyone complaining that pets all the sudden became too overpowered.

Game crashing computer - RAM corruption?

Occasionally now and then my computer will completely crash when playing Guild Wars 2. It’s been at a tolerable level but I’d rather it not crash at all. One thing I’ve noticed when it crashes is that when I start up the game patcher it will tell me that I have hardware issues. When I click on it the message that comes up tells me that I have less than 2gb of RAM. I have 4gb of RAM on my computer. Usually a restart or two will fix whatever problem it is but right now I’ve restarted my computer like 5+ times ankittenep getting that message. I have a suspicion that either my RAM is busted or that Guild Wars 2 is doing something funky to my RAM. I don’t know.

One thing that I’ve noticed throughout my travels is that completing heart missions doesn’t really feel satisfying to me. I pretty much only do them to get the silver and completion (and I do the completions to also get silver…). But the quests themselves don’t really seem to matter. For instance you might go around setting traps or stomping grub holes, but at the end of the day nothing comes from doing that.

So, I would like it if each heart mission had an event that spawned when you complete the heart. To keep the event from spawning repeatedly over and over from multiple people turning it in around the same time, maybe there could be a timer where after the event spawns it can’t spawn again. But some examples could be something like where if you set traps that a swarm of enemies comes at you and the hearty NPC and the traps actually are used to trap them. Or in the other example if you stomp on grub holes then maybe a giant veteran grub will spawn and try to ruin your day for stomping the grub holes.

You may say that tying events to hearts could be bad because you could only do them once. However, even if you complete a heart you can still partake in what the heart originally asked you to do. So you can still set traps and stomp grub holes. There could be an invisible heart meter that fills if you already completed the heart that, when it gets full, will proc the event (if the timer has ended of course).

This also gives players the power to spawn events instead of just wait for them. Which you may consider to be good or bad, but I consider it to be good.

I don’t have a smart phone at all. And the phone I do have is dead on minutes.

For Diablo 3 I bought the physical authenticator. I don’t like having the precedent where everyone is expected to have a smart phone.

Basically I was thinking about this topic after I saw that you could put up your guild banner in some areas in WvW. Essentially I think it would be neat if there was some kind of competition among guilds. It probably shouldn’t be fighting each other as that might detract from the WvW population. One idea is maybe to make it so that guilds complete who can gain the most influence during a given week. Or maybe there are a series of events and how your guild ranks in them determines your rank against the other guilds.

Then I was thinking that the reward could have something to do with the major cities. Like, for instance, whoever won the city got their guild banners hanging around the city and maybe that guild gets a buff of some sort. Maybe determining what city a guild gets is dependent on what they do in that city’s zone. So like if a guild gets the most influence in Ascalon they win the Black Citadel. And if they win the Black Citadel they get like a 5% exp bonus on Ascalonian maps and maybe something else.

The Skritt is cute and I would play them if they were available. They would though have to explain in the personal story how you are able to go out on your own and still maintain the same level of combat effectiveness. I don’t like the idea of making your character weaker/stronger based on how many Skritt are nearby. Because then either nobody would play as the Skritt or everyone would play as the Skritt.
