One of the things I found annoying was that the friday and saturday events had no real reward to participating in them other than your normal coin and karma. Not only is it bad design to give rewards only at the very end, but it also can give people the assumption that the end event won’t have a good reward and thus not be worth the trouble. I remember people speculating that right before the sunday event that we would be rewarded with a pat on the back. Nobody had any idea that there would be a reward with 3-4 exotics and an increased chance at getting a precursor.
Without anything to keep people going there, the zone is going to turn into a ghost town.
I like your post, bro. Sums up my feelings pretty well. I’ve been kind of upset lately due to the decisions made for this event so maybe I haven’t been posting in a constructive manner.
But yes I strongly agree that if they want more precursors into the market to lower the price.. that they should have done it in some other manner that all players can participate in (I heard something about them making some quest to get one). Giving out precursors in a one time event really is a slap to the face to the people who couldn’t make it. They reduced the cost of precursors the wrong way.
I would like to see 10 man dungeons at some point. I know that people on here are all “if I want to raid I’d play a different mmo!” but I don’t really think 10 players is too much like 20 players are. And as long as the rewards are balanced (i.e. no new gear tier) I don’t really see the problem. With 10 player dungeons you can experiment with different stuff, like for instance maybe having a dungeon where the team has to split in half (kind of like the dredge fractal dungeon).
I liked this jumping puzzle overall as well. However apparently there is a way to pretty much bypass all the stepping stones (not counting mesmer). I didn’t do it but I think it involves going to the water near the end of the stepping stones and getting up from there.
I would say one thing I didn’t like was that when I got past the ships and on the rocks, I didn’t really have any idea of where to go. I didn’t see the path off to the right. Normally on jumping puzzles I know what direction to go but at that point I didn’t know if I should go left or right or up or jump down somewhere.
But yeah it’s a good jumping puzzle.
They’ll probably give the bag, the accessory, maybe a few exotics. But there will be no precursors.
People complaining that someone else got a RNG drop? Give me a break. It’s not like they were handed out, tens of thousands did an event and a few got lucky rolls on their exotics.
I would think that the market crash on precursors means that, yes, they were just handed out.
I’m curious if there is going to be a drop in population.
Maybe they were referring to everyone getting pissed off.
Also, it’s complete BS that I have personal and biological obligations that prevent me from attending the Claw of Jormag event every time it occurs. It is patently UNFAIR that I am not given a fair chance at the drop rolls of this chest because I was unable to attend. In fact, any looting system based on a random number generator is profoundly unfair. I’ve often gone as long as a day of playing without so much as seeing an exotic item.
I once heard about a guy that looted a spark off of a normal risen trash mob, but I have killed hundreds of these mobs in my time in game, yet I still don’t have my precursor.
I guess arenanet is such a kitten company that it doesn’t understand that the most valuable items in the game should be mailed to every character on creation, so that EVERYONE has an equal chance at obtaining the most difficult items in the game with very little effort or luck.
KITTEN this game. I’m done!
Honestly people. Grow up.
Are… are you comparing the claw of jormag chest with the ancient karka chest? Ummm…. what? Also, the claw of jormag spawns like every 3 hours. This event is OVER. FOREVER.
They should just, freaking, have a whole 24 hour day where the big chest is in the map for people who didn’t loot the chest already on sunday.
Seems a lot of people are in the same boat as me then, also Kita, count your guild lucky, one of my guilds is caught in a massive rage war over this, half feel cheated and furious, demanding stuff etc. While the other half rile them up by rubbing their luck in.
White knights vs Black knights. The black knights complain about something they don’t like, while the white knights complain about the black knights. Rage always ensues in this scenario.
Probably too many people were complaining that legendaries were too hard to get so Anet decided to hand out welfare precursors.
Playing the event. Had to leave when the ancient karka got pushed to inside the karka den (I’m assuming that’s near the end). Come on tonight. See people talking about joining overflows and continuing the event. I go to one. The map starts running it. OH WHAT’S THIS? New client available. The end.
I did most of the event this afternoon. Had to leave, but left my client running just in case I would get something. Didn’t work out. Anyways come back and log on. See that people are doing the event in overflow servers. So I go to join one. We start and are escorting the npcs. “Alright!” I say. “I can get the chest I missed out on!” NEW BUILD AVAILABLE. “Well.. darn.”
One time events just don’t work in MMORPGs. I know ArenaNet has the philosophy that if you try hard enough you can make anything work.. but sometimes you need to be realistic and understand that some things are just not possible. One time events is one of those things. When I first heard there was going to be one time events I instantly knew that people would be upset and that there would be some issues. Before Guild Wars 2 I played Rift for a bit. They had a one time event and it ended up so poorly that everyone pretty much just hated it.
Even though I was excited for the event in general I was not excited for the one time events. The friday event and saturday event were both unrewarding in any way shape or form. Then near the end of the event today (sunday) I have to leave because of real life stuff, and then I find out that they got a sweet accessory and a 20 slot bag. Why was the payoff on Sunday so astronomically huge compared to friday and saturday? You put the entire focus on sunday, a day that a large portion of people go to church on might I add. I just felt like the one time event thing was a flop just like it was on Rift.
Besides just criticism I think there are some positive ideas to be had from all this. For instance something that affected the world but was not a one time event would be to have the donations to the light house actually matter. Each server would get a progress bar and people would donate supplies to fill the bar. To make things work properly you could have it so people could still donate in overflow servers and it would count towards your main server. Then if a server completes it in time then they get their lighthouse back. If a server doesn’t complete it in time then the light house is still destroyed.
The idea is to make events that have an impact on the world, but not to make them happen in the manner that they did in this event. The best thing about the update was the fractals, but the fractals weren’t part of the event. So with that in mind I would say that the event was fairly disappointing. Which is sad because I actually like the karka. I thought it was hilarious when they would roll and wipe everyone.
So in short, please never do one time events ever again and instead transform the events into something more manageable that everyone can participate in.

What are the good places to farm those lodestones like onyx or charged or whatever that sell for 1-2 gold each? Recently I was farming at some Earth Elementals by Pagga’s Waypoint in Malchor’s Leap but since a recent server restart the area is filled with risen now. Not sure if there’s an event I have to do to get earth elementals back. But where are some other places?
I heard from someone that a death shroud build is pretty good. How would you go about making it in general? i.e. What ultilities/traits/armor stats are recommended for the build? And is the build really viable?
I don’t like how exotic drops are bound on acquire. On my ranger I got a Light Armageddon Helm which I can’t use because it is light. However it was soulbound on acquire. If you are going to soulbound these at least make them soulbound to account so I can actually use them.
I lost about 400-500 achievement points.
So I was on the map Wayfarer Foothills. The NPC is Blane the Insane. Anyways I go up and kill him. Get my skill point (I think, I didn’t check my skill screen) and go about my way. Later on I notice on my map the skill point at Blane the Insane was not completed. I’m like “wtf mate” so I go back to try again. So I kill him again. This time I’m pretty sure I was at 0 skill points. Anyways I get the skill point for killing him. And the skill point challenge STILL isn’t completed.. So I’m like “whoa wtf.” So I talk to the npc and it gives me ANOTHER skill point and then the skill point challenge is actually completed.
If this is right then that means you could potentially infinitely farm skill points from this npc so long as you don’t talk to him. Please don’t ban me I didn’t mean to exploit anything if this is an exploit. I don’t really want to test this further cause I don’t want to be banned.
My vote is:
If they add ascended items into crafting professions then I will have no real issue with it but if they do not I will be irritated but not enough to pack up and leave the game.
Update, given Linsey Murdock’s unveiling:
I need more details, especially on how Ascended items will affect crafting. I’m slowly becoming OK with being able to obtain items of a slightly higher stat grade, but I want to be able to use crafting to do so. Will I be able to craft my own ascended armor, accessories, and weapons? Why did you say that ascended rings will drop in the new dungeon; won’t jewelcrafters also be able to make them? How will not having a normal upgrade slot affect jewelcrafting? Does this mean exquisite jewels are now useless? As hard as the dungeons and high-level areas are, I actually find the idea of a small stat bonus appealing, as long we don’t keep getting ridiculous new tiers of items hereafter (ala the gear treadmill). From a lore standpoint, ascended/infused armor being the best makes sense and is kind of cool (again, as long as they remain the best, and are not replaced by a new tier of uber-items in a couple months). However, crafting better remain viable, or I’ll be yet another upset customer. I don’t want to have to play in the new dungeon to get ascended items, nor do I want to have to buy them directly off the trading post. I want to craft ascended items, and I await further information regarding this topic.
Note that I’ve seen the blogpost stating that there will be 200 additional recipes added, presumably for ascended items.
You sound like me haha. If they do add ascended items to crafting professions then I won’t have any big problems with ascended gear. Hope that is the case.
I’ll throw my 2 cents out there.
Past games I’ve played I’ve always wanted to like crafting but I never have because it always seemed like a waste of time. The last MMO I played was Rift and I didn’t care for it’s craft system because the best gear available is done by doing 20 man raids. When I heard that you could craft the best gear in the game I was pretty excited for crafting and have been trying to level them. I’ve gotten a couple professions to 400 and a couple more that are close to 400 as well.
What upsets me about the ascended gear isn’t so much that there is a new tier of gear, but rather that (if I understand it right) crafting professions no longer can get you the best gear in the game anymore. So, for instance, why should I level jewelery to 400 when there’s better gear to be gotten elsewhere? I think that the ascended gear should able to be craftable. For instance you could increase the max cap on crafting professions to like 450-500. And once you max it out you can make ascended gear. This system would also still encourage people to craft exotics sense you would need to craft them to level your crafting profession.
I just really, really think that you should be able to craft the best gear possible if you don’t want crafting to suck like in other MMOs like Rift.
Me, personally, I was wanting more game content for higher level characters. That’s not the same as wanting higher tier gear.
For those that are saying that they hate elvish characters… you do know that Sylvarri have an elvish outline, and were originally supposed to look even more elvish than they do now right?
Anyways I think it’d be cool to have a playable aquatic race. Then the main city could either be entirely underwater or mostly underwater. Although if the race was the largos I think they would have to redo the wings to make them customizable in character creation so that not all Largos have the same set of wings. I would also like it if they released more underwater weapons so that players have more options than just 2 weapons.
They nerfed every ability that you like to use in PVP and buffed every ability that players use against you in PVP.
This happens in like every mmo. When it first comes out lower level zones are super populated, then a month or 2 later they are completely deserted.
In general I don’t go out and actively seek out groups. The main reason is because I want to do what I want to do. If I want to complete a map I’ll do that. If I want to do a dungeon I’ll do that. If I want to farm I’ll do that. If there is an event going on that I want to do I’ll join that and help other people, but I’m not going to go out and randomly group up with random people. That’s just not me.
I believe that current idea that Anet has is for people to save up the skill points to use on making legendary weapons.
Although the legendaries don’t really interest me too much so I can see where you are coming from.
I was part of the Priest of Melandru event for the first time. It was kind of annoying. First you need like the entire map, then you need the entire map not to use CCs (or so I hear), then after the priest is dead there’s so many people you can’t get gold on the next part.
If you want to fix this “exploit,” a suggestion that I’ve seen on here before that I would rather have is to make teleporting to cities free if you’ve 100% discovered the city. That would fix it without annoying players.
If the zoom out feature is disabled in spvp and wvw I would be ok with this.
I wouldn’t mind so much if only some of the risen had some sort of movement impairment ability… but it feels like every single risen in orr has them.
Is there a crit cap in this game? I’ve played other games that had a crap on crit.
Obviously I’m asking if the cap is under 100% or not.
If you don’t do this already you should temp ban people who misuse the report function. One example I saw recently is threatening to report people who take supply from keeps/castles. People need to know that the report function is for real issues and not because someone is playing the game the way you don’t want them to.
One of my favorite races in a MMO has no gender at all because they are essentially robots: The warforged from DDO. Then again I really like robots and see them as the next evolutionary step for man kind.
I’ve been meaning to make this thread for awhile but never got around to it. Anyways the first time I cleansed Orr the king of Orr told me that I received a title (pic related, although that’s not my character) and so I checked my titles and there is no real Champion of Orr title.
Anyways it’d be neat if we could actually use the title Champion of Orr after we cleanse Orr.
What is the maximum number of guilds you can join? What’s the maximum number of guilds you can create?
I actually enjoy seeing the devs post on the forums. Even if it’s a topic that isn’t serious. It just helps build a community between the players and the developers. The MMO I played before this the devs almost never posted in the forums.
All NPCs will turn into the coca cola bear race.
I got a talent on my engineer that can have the rifle cause blindness on crits. Haven’t tested it out yet but I like the idea of being able to blind things on an auto attack.
Rift has a sell-back feature. Works well.
Rangers should be able to tame dolphins and whales…. just saying
Actually, if you use the normal spirits underwater they take the form of a dolphin. The elite skill spirit takes the form of a whale.
I’m guessing they’ll make transferring harder once the guest feature rolls out.
The Largos remind me of Quarians from Mass Effect. It would be cool if they were a playable race with customizable wings and having their main city be underwater.
The pre-event stuff all seems to point to water being a big factor. I would probably expect underwater combat.
