I have stopped doing sPvP and, to some extent, WvW about 2~3 months ago because the PvP in this game is RIDICULOUSLY boring and stale.
This also means that I haven’t even bothered to try play in the new maps. This is because of my experience that I’ve had so far.
As I mentioned in another thread, the lack of diversity in builds is BORING. When everyone and their mother plays a tank, fights are BORING. When melee is clearly overshadowed by ranged in so many levels, it’s pathetic.
I was playing gw1 pvp earlier last week, and oh my gawd was the nostalgia overwhelming.
Imho, gw2 has failed to epic proportions when it comes to pvp so far.
Oh you sited gw1 how cute, this is gw2. It’s not gw1. Gfy
People like you dont use the other builds because you’re just plain terrible, not the “other” builds. Anything that is considered another build in comparison to cookie cutters is still some made up build you are just copying. Why dont you get some friends, sit down with them and determine and figure out what you can do with each of you playing your favorite class.
Now keep in mind you actually have to be more than a decent player to do well.
The whole gw2 isnt gw1 died months ago, unless you’re new to gw2 and are just now getting to the “waah gw2 isnt gw1” phase.
You sound like you know me so well from what little I’ve said.
(edited by Kurow.6973)
I think there are plenty of viable builds for each class. The problem is people either don’t experiment or there is 1-2 that make the other viable builds look bad. Trust me this happens in all games. It very hard to create several viable builds without 1 or 2 being that much more viable.
No, trust me. There isn’t.
Go play gw1 (if you’ve never done so), and you’ll understand the lack of diversity of viable builds in this game.
We only have 8 classes, why is there only 1-2 /viable/ builds per? Its boring. Other games add more and more and this one only seems to take away. This game was better in BETA. It has just got worse since.
Ive been pvp’ing since beta and what I think has happened is not that all the builds that werent “top tier” got replaced by top tier builds but that 90% of the community flocked to the “top tier” builds and stopped making their own.
Although my Mesmer and Ele builds are very much my own I know they are fairly close to popular builds.
However, my Warrior, Guardian, Necro and Engie builds are very very very different from the builds I see people talking about/posting/playing with and Im pretty kitten successful with them.
The cookie cutter builds you see 90% of people using are good for them because they pvp solo. Im always pvp’ing with a team or other people so it gives me more room to create builds that are based on complimenting a team or another person with me. They can be used in hotjoins too but its harder because hotjoin kitten are terrible teammates.
Synergy of builds is terrible in gw2 compared to gw1. There’s no argument or comparison to be made.
The sheer diversity of builds in gw1 overshadows gw2 effortlessly.
People don’t use the other builds because they’re just plain terrible compared to the cookie cutters. For example, P/P on thief was asked to be looked at plenty of times. Yet, there’s literally been no change made to that weapon set besides some MINOR changes in certain traits (almost useless and unnoticeable).
Gw2 SEVERELY lacks options when it comes to builds, especially on certain specific classes.
I like all the complaints about frenzy, when haste on thief is a joke.
My hopes are that the skill diversity in gw2 will be that of gw1 (not gonna happen), everyone and their mother won’t be able to run a tank build (not gonna happen), a PvP that’s not completely and utterly boring (doubt that this will happen), and being able to use all your fancy skins you’ve acquired from PvE in PvP, like you could in gw1 (doubt that this will happen too, considering the game has shown no sign of this ever happening).

Sounds like some of you just want revealing town clothes.
Not like there’s female/male versions of each armour or anything…right? So pretending like there isn’t, isn’t going to change that.
I just assumed they’d be account bound. Then I remembered this is an Anet game.
…but…we have a piece of kitten RNG ticket for fused weapons…
for some reason i cant belive that several players even combinde have bought for 1125€ keys(if they bought 5 keys at a time) without getting a single token.
i bought 21 keys got 1 token a name change and alot of other stuff that i cant rememberso it is possible
It does not matter if you believe the truth or not.
Just because you refuse to believe the truth, doesn’t make the truth false…in fact, it makes you delusional, and ignorant.
It disappoints me that I am so discouraged by greedy business practices instead of the fun loving, eager to please ANET of yesteryear.
Exactly!
$300? I’m sorry I just can’t see this.. I know RNG is RNG but I got my first ticket on key 58. I did an additional 80 and ended up with 3. I too spend large amounts on the gem store for events and things, but $300 for keys is like 265 keys? I just can’t imagine the RNG gods hating someone so much. And on top of that, 265 keys HAD to of gotten you at least 50+ more keys making it over 300. Not calling liar here, but really… This for me is just hard to believe. This is why I always record my results.
You are in fact calling him a liar because of how repetitive you are about how hard to believe it is.
I opened 129 chests and have gotten 0 tickets before quitting, while knowing people who’ve gotten 1~2 tickets out of 5~10 chests.
Just because you were lucky with RNG to some extent, doesn’t ensure others are/will be as well.
(edited by Kurow.6973)
guildie got 2 from 5 keys e.e
You are full of !@#$
I believe it. I know a couple of people who got 1~2 out of 5 chests…and then…there was me. 129 chests, and none…therefore, I raged, and quit.
Hey maybe theyll do another 3 boosters and 3 tonics into the MF for a fusion chest.
1 can hope!
That’s like trying to put a bandaid on the issue.
It wouldn’t bypass the RNG factor of it. It’d only relieve the pain by a miniscule (almost unnoticeable) amount.
(edited by Kurow.6973)
I myself have spent a few $ on these chests, yet unlike you, I believe it is for the best of the community for them to fix this. Just because I’ve spent some $, doesn’t entitle me to support ANet in this horrendous practice to see others struggle and waste money, and then stop supporting this otherwise great game.
I guess you’re comfortable throwing money away. Not all of us are. I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
Did you even read?
Just because you were in a rush to spend $60 immediately at release, doesn’t mean others who are much more unlucky should try gambling $100+ and never get one. Self-centered much?
I’m 99.9% sure that at this point, people would much rather spend something like $10 for a guaranteed skin, than waste another $100+ gambling and never getting one.
How does it make me self centered? Your reasoning is ridiculous.
If they’re going to add a way to get them easily, they need to outline that before people spend their money. “We’re going to put these tickets in the boxes, but a month down the road, we’re going to make them available for purchase for a set fee.” How many do you think would buy the boxes? I certainly wouldn’t be, but as this was advertised as the only way to obtain the item, I was willing to try. I wasn’t “in a rush” as you put it.
I’m 100% sure that that is the case. What does that have to do with anything I said. I would love it if it were the case that I could’ve spent 10$ and gotten one instead of 60$ and getting nothing, but that’s not how it was advertised.
It should have been sellable on the TP if they want to continue using the boxes at such a ridiculously low drop rate. I would’ve for sure bought my gems to support the company and would’ve bought one of the skins from the TP. Win – Win for both me and Anet. As it stands, it was Win – Lose in Anet’s favor. But I guess that’s the goal of any company.
Your reasoning for not fixing this issue is self-centered. If you can’t understand why from my previous post, then I cannot help you.
No. As someone who spent 60$ on the chests and didn’t get a skin, I would be very upset if they added an easy way to obtain them. It is far too late for that.
It’s never too late to please the majority, rather than pushing aside their opinions and ignoring their concerns.
There are better ways to make money, while keeping majority of the player base happy, than having a RNG based system, and attempting to abuse the gambling addicts for money.
I have spent over 380 gold last week while gambling in the toilet, for an overall loss of 140~150 gold. Kittening RNG bullkitten!
This week, I’ve spent over 280 gold on gems to try get ticket(s) for fused weapon skin(s), and then called it quits because I got none, while I know people who got 1~2 ticket(s) out of only 5 chests. Kittening RNG bullkitten!
Overall, I’m getting fed up extremely fast with ANet taking this RNG route to most things. I never encountered this issue in GW1. Get your act together ANet. That’s all I have to say.
Extremely disappointed about how this fused weapon skins issue is being handled at this point.
For the life of me I don’t understand people who don’t like RNG but still spend money on them.
What’s hard to understand? People hate RNG but want the products they could get from said RNG, so they reluctantly put up with it to hopefully get the end resault they desire.
Its not like people are saying “I hate the RNG, but I’m going to buy a bunch of keys for no reason”. They do it because they want the skins, and as much as they might hate the RNG, playing the hated RNG and having a chance at skins > having no chance at all.
…and then there are those who spend some time with the RNG to see if the reward rate is fair, or if it’s extremely kitten (as it is in this case). When they aren’t satisfied, they completely give up, and start having a terrible taste left over in their mouth for the game.
I got my fused token from 10 keys I bought using gold. yeah. Anet robbing us.
Just because you were lucky, doesn’t mean everyone else is as lucky.
I know people who got 1~2 tickets from just 5 chests. Meanwhile, I’ve opened over 130 chests and haven’t gotten a single ticket, before I gave up on it and cussed out ANet.
The same applies to people claiming, and saying precursor drop rates are fine when they got 1~2 out of 80 rares. Meanwhile, there are people who has used over 1200 rares (myself included), and has never seen a single one.
So, do us all a favour, and take your smart-alecky comments elsewhere.
I see a lot of anger over the new skins because they are RNG based.
Basically you buy some keys and hope for the fused skins or something else you desire. And I understand this is problematic for some people. But maybe this can help:
Arenanet adds Frozen/opposite skins directly on the gem store. (No RNG)
These skins can be used to skin a weapon of your choice.
But heres the biggy-
If you don’t like the skin or you wanted the Fused version, you can take the unopened frozen weapon and use it as currency to trade it for the fused ones.
So to reiterate:
Buy skin directly off store, go to fused NPC and second tab allows you to buy a different Fused weapon instead so long as the weapon skin has not been used. Now this works both ways.
The Fused weapon skin NPC would also allow you (3rd tab) to buy Frozen style skins with your fused ones.
So the exchange would be even, the gem cost would be even. And there is a chance that when you open a BL chest it could give you a free fused ticket, which could be used or traded for the one you want. Now it is early in the AM for me, but this seems balanced. In all seriousness correct me if any part is flawed and I will try to correct it or discuss it.
What are your thoughts?
It’s not a bad idea but it seems drastically overcomplicated.
Why not just directly sell the fused weapon skins in addition to having the tickets come out of chests? They can say “Due to popular demand” or whatever.
I just think putting them directly on the store would even more annoy people who spent a ton of money on the chance. Now that such time has passed it might be too late to simply change it without making the situation worse. At least the new skins would provide some sort of softening for all those who spent money on the chance. “Oh I spent a lot on a chance and didn’t get any or only got 1. But now there are more cool skins, and I can trade them for the ones I wanted.” Might simply work out better than “Oh I spent a ton, and now they make them directly able to buy… great…”
I can guarantee you there’s way more people upset over spending money and getting nothing than the other way around.
So, after having attempted another 79 chests today, after the 48 attempts yesterday…I have come to the decision that I’m not supporting any kind of RNG bullkitten in this game any longer. Also, if this RNG trend continues…I will most probably be finding myself a replacement game, as I am not a fan of RNG based rewards.
I’m SEVERELY disappointed at ANet at this point about this whole matter. I’m not even mad about the situation, just EXTREMELY disappointed that I was supporting this game so valiantly up until this point, even though they ruined two of the most important things that made the original Guild Wars, Guild Wars (the pvp set up and the skill diversity).
After what I read on the forums about the Black Lion Chests around Halloween when everyone and their dog was trying to get the skins out of there, I wouldn’t do this in the first place…..but pretty shiny skins really aren’t my thing anyway.
Given the amount of complaining I’ve been seeing lately regarding the RNG to get these new skins, I’d like to use your results as an example.
You used 79+48 keys to open at total of 127 Black Lion Chests.
Let’s assume you got a generous 40% return of keys from your Chest openings (or you already had through various in game tasks).
That would mean that you used 77 keys that you purchased with Gems, which means you spent 9,625 Gems on keys……or if you bought them at the discounted price by buying 5 for 450 Gems…..you would have spent 6,930 Gems….or if you bought them when the sale was going on and got them for 5 for 360 Gems…..you would have spent 5,544 Gems.Let’s use the LEAST possible amount of Gems you could have bought (5,544) and see how the numbers work out.
If you converted gold to Gems, using a conversion rate of 100 Gems / 2g, to buy those keys, you effectively removed 110g88s00c from the economy in the process.
If you bought those gems with real money, you paid approximately $69.30 USD.
Either way you look at it, you have done an amazing job of supporting a wonderful game and I’m sure there are a lot of other players that have done the same. You are just one player. Imagine how many other players did this too.
Let’s say 10 did it……that’s 1108g80s00c removed from the economy or $693.00 USD put into Anet’s pockets….
What about 100 other players……
11,088g00s00c removed or $6,930.00 USD given to Anet.1000?
110,880g00s00c removed or $69,300 USD given to Anet.If you choose not to participate in any future RNG methods of achieving desirable items, that’s totally your choice, but I, for one, would like to thank you for your contributions to keep this wonderful game alive and free to play.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Charismatic Harm
So, you went through all of that to restate what I already said? Good to know!

I have a feeling that they’d make a lot more money if these skins were straight up purchasable with gems like the wintersday skins were, especially considering these look better in the eyes of most people.
You think that? You really think that?
You think the people who have the real and complete data from previous skin releases, the people whose not theoretical livelyhood is on the line, the people who have undoubtedly spent dozens if not hundreds of man-hours considering alternative release schemes, the people who have to make the choice of how to proceed just… screwed up?
I don’t have the slightest doubt that doing it this way nets them more money, both this quarter and over the life of the game.
Yes, I really do.
The items that are available for sale differ much too vastly to net the same results…and you, or anyone else thinking otherwise is WRONG.
WTF?!?! Here I thought the weapons could be bought via tokens received from effort in the game, instead another STUPID kitten lockbox scam! Everyone needs to stop buying the kitten keys already, you only screwing yourself and everyone else over.
And you need to remember that this game has no monthly subscription fee, and instead its continuous maintenance and development is supported by this ‘scam’.
I have a feeling that they’d make a lot more money if these skins were straight up purchasable with gems like the wintersday skins were, especially considering these look better in the eyes of most people.
Everyone I play with have spent $0 on these skins because they had terrible luck with just gold (so they know spending $ would be a bigger waste), and have completely given up on BLCs.
So, they managed to do nothing but make some money out of the gambling addicts, and kitten off the rest of the community who were interested in having some of these skins.
68 chests later, not a single kittening ticket.
850+ lvl80 rares later, not a single precursor/profit of any kind.
150+ lvl 30+ fractal runs later, not a single kittening fractal weapon.
What the kitten is the kittening point in trying when half the kitten in this game is all RNG and luck based?
If you’re lucky, you get it in first few tries. If you’re unlucky, well good luck spending a year and possibly never getting what you’re trying to get.
I’M GETTING SICK WITH ALL THIS RNG BULLKITTEN IN THIS GAME!!! THIS IS GETTING TIRING AND IS REALLY STARTING TO KITTEN ME OFF.
Not sick enough, apparently.
Not yet…when it gets to that point, it’ll be sayonara GW2…and at the rate they’re going, it might be soon if they keep this up.
Haste is a pretty trash skill right now.
If you’re against anyone good, they’ll immediately take advantage of your use of Haste and wreck you, especially in a team scenario.
5 seconds of helplessly walking around unable to dodge anything…lol!!!
And I was talking about single-target fights. For AoE, of course a thief isn’t going to top any damage meters.
No!
Warriors will still take your DPS, chew up nicely, and then spit it on your face as they turn their backs on you and walk away laughing hysterically.
I’m getting SO SICK of all of these RNG based rewards, especially the account/soulbound ones.
RNG isn’t bad if there’s an alternative method to obtaining them. Like the TP. Precursors are a great example. RNG ensures rarity of said item, and prices on TP reflects said rarity.
From what I understand though, these items are account-bound. Which means RNG is SOLELY the method of obtaining them. Which is silly. I’m willing to pay top dollars for certainty, Anet, come onnnn.
Just like the kittening fractal weapon skins.
It’s kittening bullkitten that they keep releasing RNG based rewards.
It’s starting to really kitten me off considering it is straying away from a game that rewards you for putting in the effort, time, and money (not literally money…because I don’t want a pay to win), and becoming a luck based game.
If I wanted to gamble everything, I’d be spending all my free time in a casino.

Stack stealth with smoke field and cluster bomb spam. Add shadow refuge for 12s more stealth.
You can stack up to half a minute of stealth lol.
Do you even know what you’re talking about?
Since what I asked flew right over your head, let me rephrase: did you know there’s a cap on stealth duration?

@kurow add me and let’s duel spvp, u will see how stupid your post is
edit: prob need to clarify, PP is my secondary weapon set instead of SB, and i switch to it to finish off players who are at or below 50%… PP as a main weapon set is a completely different story, and i dont suggest doing that. PP is really good in spvp as secondary if your bored of SB.. stepping out of melee range, while in stealth, switching to pp, then sneak attack and unload surprises alot of ppl
Good to see you agreeing with me, while making yourself look like a tool all in one post.
PvE…it’s decent~good. Good for single target ranged DPS (lots of bosses, and fractals).
WvW…it’s decent. Only bad players will encounter some trouble, if any, while dealing with it.
sPvP…it’s garbage. Only REALLY terrible players will have trouble dealing with it. Playing this in sPvP is like setting a handicap for yourself.
It is also a VERY mind numbing playstyle, no matter how “cool” it may look.
Anyone saying otherwise is either a troll, plays a different class than thief and holds hatred towards thieves, or delusional.
(edited by Kurow.6973)
It’s a terrain bug. Happens with Ele’s RTL, Warrior’s GS rush. Rangers GS rush etc..
I’ve personally never had it happen with “Ele’s RTL, Warrior’s GS rush, and Rangers GS rush”, but that’s not to dismiss it if others did encounter it.
For thieves, if you are pushed into downed state in the middle of Ink Shot, you will appear at the place where the Ink Shot ended, but you will be unable to move…thereby leaving you helpless and stuck till you are dead.
I was hoping I wouldn’t have to make a thread about this and it would be addressed in due time, but after months of waiting and no sight of any fix to come I figured I’d see just how many people have encountered the issue.
The issue I speak of is the random gravitational pull your character gets if you use HS to move around. Ideally, HS is supposed to move you forward in the direction you are facing, or a target (much like all the other leap skills). This is assuming you have everything that interferes with free skill usage turned off, such as autotargeting.
What that means is you could be facing one direction and use HS, but the game would randomly pull you to another direction.
just a quick question i didn’t find an answer for it,
If i block someone from my friend list, will he see me offline?
Or he still be able to see me online with current character? (if yes, what is the point of blocking?).Thanks!
It removes them from your friends list if I recall right.
Good players know what each and every venom buff looks like.
Thieves remain to be only good against bad/new players and other thieves.
I used to use Razer Naga, but after going through 2 of them within about a year and a half, and encountering the double click issue on both…I tried G600.
All I can say is that G600 is a hundred times better performance-wise.
Almost any class played by a smart / experienced person could kill me. That being said, D/D Eles, and Guardians in general gave me a lot of trouble 90% of the time.
Don’t worry keep plugging away and you will get better to win more offten.
…or get better at running away.
When I am on anything but my thief, the thieves I encounter in WvW either die, or run away with SR+SB…and then either try come back with a group or zerg, or just completely avoid me.
Thief is a terrible class for PvP. Just saying. Only bad/newbie players think of them as “OP”. Against a good/experienced player, they’re terrible. They’re best at killing other thieves, and running away. That’s all.
Since when is soloing Lupi, on any class, an impossible task?…especially after the dungeon update.
Are people being serious in this thread?
what exactly did dungeon update do for lupi? ive run him countless times in groups and it doesn’t feel any different aside from a few less invisible circles owning me (still there though). They didn’t lower his hp (pretty sure) and definitely didn’t lower his damage.
They lowered his HP considerably for one.
Since when is soloing Lupi, on any class, an impossible task?…especially after the dungeon update.
Are people being serious in this thread?
wow, asuras can jump!!
So can Charr. Some people are just jump challenged.
lol this one was kinda weird cuz your pic is a little glitched with some water. =P
this one was hella fun. On to pic 9-10!
Glad you enjoyed it!
thank you so much for this adventure!
You’re very welcome! Glad you enjoyed what some may call torture. =]
BALSDHFASDOHA I fell through trying to get there, its pretty glitchy back there
_
Yes it is. XD
Finally found it. hooo weee. These last few places are the best thing I’ve ever found in gw2. Thank you =)
Again, not a problem. Glad to see that there are other mountain climbers who share the same interests.
I’ve got one for you Kurow (and anyone brave enough to try it.)
Mount Maelstrom, your only hint. enjoy
That one was easy (fun nonetheless). I knew where that was the instant I saw that camp. =]
those last 2. my god. impossible to get to. >_<
Not impossible…just…ridiculously difficult unless you know how. =]
As stated, I’m new to GW. But I’m not new to MMO’s and Thieves/Rogue classes. They are always my favorite.
Usually I’m faced with simply increasing my dex or the equivalent as well as worrying about my dps and crit chances. Obviously that is not how the Thief mechanics work in GW2.
I am not interested in WvW or PvP. I enjoy the PvE aspect of MMO’s. What I’m so confused about is how to spec my traits and gear toward the PvE and Dungeoneering in the game. With so many choices as far as Crit Chance, Power, Toughness, Healing, Condition Dmg/Duration etc. I feel a bit overwhelmed. I do understand that there are so many variables and that a lot depends on how I wish to play the game.
I like D/D and SB. It feels fun to me. I like making mobs bleed like crazy! Seeing those numbers fly off their heads tickles me to death…. and them as well. So if that’s what I like then I think I want to have gear that is adding to my Condition Damage and Duration. Correct? And I suppose that would mean I want to spend more points in Deadly Arts and Trickery. Are there builds based on Condition? Would a build like this work in dungeons as well?
Play a different class. With the amount of unnecessary complaints people come up with, thief in PvE will always be indirectly nerfed. Also, not to mention the fact that other classes vastly outperform thieves, especially in a team scenario.
However, if you insist on continuing to play, I would not recommend you playing a condition thief in dungeons. It’s good armour ignoring damage, but condition stacks are limited, and you won’t be the only one stacking them.
(edited by Kurow.6973)
Honestly… it was kind of OP…
A warrior with dual axes could essentially heal full up using a single skill #5 on a short cooldown… with availability of another full heal up in between.
It was OP… it was almost godlike… I tried it… never had to dodge… didn’t have to slot anything like endure pain… if I got in trouble I could just hit #5 and heal all the way up while dishing out massive damage in an AoE at the same time. Cooldown on it was less than my heal… it was begging for a nerf.
A consumable should never make a build… enhance one sure… but if the absence of that food means the build has lost all survivability or effectiveness entirely… then the food was OP and needed to be adjusted.
Or…the build was garbage, and needs to be adjusted to make it viable without the use of food. P/P for example falls very nicely into this category.
Found some. This was pretty fun
Glad you enjoyed them!
well this was amazing. kinda glitchy back there huh? ;P
Yea, it is. XD

1 can hope!
