I have multiple characters and would like to be able to gear them all. Unfortunatley, the above calculation is just for 1 peice of gear. It would probably take me years to complete an entire set for multiple characters.
I have played many mmo’s before GW2 and I have never had to grind this much. This is a whole new level of grind. To me, this is completely absurd.
What’s absurd is creating a bunch of characters and then complaining that it takes longer to gear them all as opposed to just one.
Actually, what’s more absurd is creating and playing only one single character in a game with 8 classes, and 5 races.
I’m giving this one last shot, if nothing comes of this, I’ll either take a long break from GW2 or just move on to something else.
I don’t know what class to play. It’s driving me insane. I’ve done each of the starting zones more times than I care to think about. I’ve tried most classes to a decent level. Only ones I stopped playing at a low level were Mesmer and Engie.
I’ve got a level 80 ranger. but I’ve got some issues with it that make me just flat out not want to play it.
Level 6x Guardian. I just really don’t like this class. It seems, despite this game not supporting “holy trinity” and giving every class the aility to fill any role, that this class is tank. Pure and simple, I’ve tried so many builds and there just isn’t a good DPS build. It’s all tank and bunker. I’m a solo player, I don’t want to “outlast” and enemy. Then it takes far too long for me to do anything worth while.
Level 5x Warrior. I feel extremely squishy. I tried to go to help some friends with an event, and a monster 3 levels below me kept hitting me for half my health. This was a normal mob, nothing fancy or super powered, and it did this. I’m fine if I’m in a group of 1 or 2, but god forbid I get any more on me or I’m done for.
Elementalist, I just can’t do the element swapping. It’s 100% not my play style and I hate that you MUST swap.
Necro, I’m really not sure what I don’t like about it. I may try one out again. I think my biggest issue was the minions being glitched.
Lol…contrary to popular beliefs, I can assure you Guardians do a ridiculous amount of damage if played right. If you choose to play a tank and support, that is your own choice.
Warriors are ridiculously OP in PvE, and in PvP, unless you’re against an extremely heavy condition build like necros.
Eles are the MOST OP class in the game. Hands down. Your short comings here is not the game’s problem.
You say you understand that the game isn’t supposed to be holy trinity, yet you’re trying to play it like one. I am getting the feeling that you’re far too accustomed to holy trinity to try shake your bad habits.
I find it stupid that you cannot get the necklaces, earrings, and the weapon skins with tokens, like you can with the rings.
Hey everyone!
Recently, I’ve been doing a contest in a couple of forums, that I thought I should extend to these official forums to give more people some chances to win and have some fun in the process.
How it works is simple. I will post some screenshots, free of any information besides what appears strictly on the scenery (with one my characters), and what you need to do is identify and find the locations, and get a picture of your character with the same background and set up.
I will be listing them based on difficulty depending on how hard/tricky they are, or the amount of time it takes to reach them. The prizes are strictly limited to the first person who finds them.
The locations will NOT be limited to classes. That means the locations posted will be areas that are accessible to EVERYONE (okay, so you may need to be a certain level for some of them).
If you find a location, please state the map it is located in (not the exact location), so others can have a narrowed down area to try find the location(s) for fun (if they so desire).
My personal posts will extend to only NA players, as cross server mailing (for the prizes) is not possible.
Feel free to join in and post your own locations for others to find. It’s a good way to instigate exploration for those interested. After all, there’s a lot to see and find in Guild Wars 2.
So, without further ado, let’s get started.
Pictures needed – Difficulty – Prize
1 – Extremely Easy – 25s
2 – Very Easy (take note of the varying colours of the crystals) – 50s
3 – Easy – 75s
4 – Medium – 1g
5 – Hard – 1.5g
6 – Very Hard – 2g
7 – Extremely Hard – 2.5g
8 – SADISTIC – 3g
9 & 10 (you need both) – SICKENING – 4g
PS: If this belongs in another sub-forum, I’d appreciate it if a mod could move it to the appropriate one.

^^ Id just ignore Daecollo’s comment on sword pistol no longer being viable. I’ve been playing sword pistol for about 40 levels so for…currently 64 and i have seen no change what so ever. still seems perfectly fine in dungeons and pve, don’t do too much pvp and whatnot with that weapon choice. Anyways they fixed bugs more than anything it seems.
I see no logic in his reasoning with S/P no longer Viable. just as most people are dropping comments saying they seen no change. Trust me my friend S/P is still perfectly fine
You’re 64, and you don’t pvp much (let alone use S/P in pvp), yet you’re here arguing with others about skill changes?!?
I do not understand why they wanted to fix what wasn’t broken.
AC has become quite a waste of time now…and I can’t even begin to call the dungeon suitable for level 35s.
Ever since this new update, when we’re at protecting Hodgins part with the burrows, my FPS drops from the usual 60 to <20. This is extremely irritating and is making this a lot more difficult than it needs to be.
I’m not sure what you broke ANet, but please fix this. You’ve already raised the difficulty as is, and the massive drop in FPS out of the blue is NOT helping.
As an indirect buff, flame and frost auras have also been improved (important if you group up with eles while using D/D + SB)
Yea…and as a direct buff, my ele is even more godlike now! OH YEA!!!!!!
Food items that give special bonuses upon a critical hit now have an internal cooldown before they can produce the special bonus again.
S/P is no longer viable in WvWvW, Going to go backstab now like all the other thieves since I can’t survive without stealth.
Don’t worry, ANet is happy with everyone playing the same build. There doesn’t need to be variety of any kind at all, like there was in GW1.
You can now apply 100% (instead of 60%) cipple on someone every 10 secs with one of the best minor traits ever. Cripple p/d build new meta.
I think you may be misunderstanding.
Honestly, this patch did nothing to bring my interest back. In fact, I feel more inclined to continue playing some of my other classes now, especially ele.
P/P still got no love. Its auto attack is still garbage. Body Shot is still garbage.

Our single target DPS is actually better than warriors..
AHAHAHAHAHAHA…WHAT?!?!
I rarely, if ever, play my thief anymore (even though it’s my “main”, and most complete character).
It’s just an overall bad class imo. Anything you can do (especially for your team), other classes can do better.
The only thing a thief is good for is running, and skipping things (mobs and such) in certain environments. The best utility thief brings to a party is SR for stealthing downed allies during boss fights and such. However, with a good group, no one should be getting downed anyway…let alone needing SR to rez back up. No, SR is not an excuse for playing thief. There are things like “Order of Whispers Spy Kit”, and “Ash Legion Spy Kit”.
I enjoyed assassins from gw1 thoroughly, and that class didn’t even have stealth. It was just a lot more fun to play. Thief has become EXTREMELY disappointing and VERY repetitive for me. For example, in almost all the bosses (fractals especially), spamming 3-3-3-3-3-3-3 with some 4s and 2s in between with p/p is not very fun, neither is spamming 5-1-1-1-1-5-1-1-1-1-5-…to maintain an extremely small blind field, especially when other classes do more damage in the time you’ve been spending repeatedly spamming a single button.
Yeah…while the 10 seconds are somewhat excessive I agree that Swiftness just makes more sense than the ominous “50% speed increase”….which apparently isn’t 50% anyway but rather 33%…which is exactly what Swiftness grants.
The reason why they probably didn’t make it Swiftness is because as a boon it is prone to modificators like “boon duration” .
That in turn might result in Thieves having quasi “perma-Swiftness”, which while nice, goes against the “temporary boost” nature of boons.
You mean like what’s in my picture?
Try guess what balanced class achieved that (all by itself, not through boons from other players/objects).
I thought they patched it so boons could not go over 1 minute, my Warrior can get 1 min of swiftness, but if he uses anything else, it will just go 1 minute again.
Yea…no. That screenshot is from today. I can get 9 minutes if I really wanted to. I’ve done it before.

I’ve seen him do it back to back like four times out of all the runs I’ve done. So, I suspect there’s no cooldown, and he does it whenever he feels like it.
You may have kicked the instance owner, which would indeed close the instance and boot everyone out.
We are aware of a problem related to that though, and are working on solutions.EDIT:
Whoever is the first person into the misty portal/dungeon is considered the owner of the instance, despite his placement in the party.
If you do this, make it so party chat remains in your log for reporting purposes, and add a reporting section for people kicking you illegitimately…because currently, if you’re kicked:
1: You don’t see it coming, it just happens out of the blue.
2: You’re instantly kicked out of the instance and loaded into your previous map.
3: Your party chat is wiped, and you must go through roundabout ways to try find out all their names (rarely succeeding in finding all the player names).
I’ve been kicked before, literally for playing a class better than someone else. That was literally the reason they gave. Why?…because I managed to solo the shiverpeak/dragonseeker’s bonfire and elemental, and also because I managed to solo the underwater fractal boss down to 50% HP before the rest of the team got through the dark room.
I did the same thing the OP did, reported the two guildies under “scamming”…so, there does need to be a better option. Oh, and I had to go a roundabout way to get their names right because when you are kicked, it immediately loads you into a different map AND clears your party chat log.
Hmmm you were kicked out by fellow guildies?
No, the two people that kicked me were in the same guild. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Sounds like you consistently left your group behind? I would have requested to kick you as well.
…and how do you figure that? I specifically called out I was going to solo bonfire, and start on jelly soon as I got there. No one objected, and infact, in bonfire, they stood and waited by the last fire place before I opened the path for them, and on jelly, they requested I get started since they were taking too long. On the elemental, they refused to listen to me and aggro’d every single add and got themselves wiped.
Here here. Fractals is about working together, not showing you can solo things yourself. If you really wanted to solo things yourself, then just play Fractals by yourself and only yourself — I can only imagine how far you would get without help.
You expect me to break my armour and reset bosses when other people failed? I’d consider doing that when I have hours on end to spend sitting in a dungeon wasting time attempting it, and when people are paying for those repair costs. Unlike some people, others are on limited time. They do not wish to spend 3 hours in a dungeon like Fractals.
Oh, and for the record…underwater fractals is completely soloable, and takes little to no effort.
(edited by Kurow.6973)
Steal + CnD thanks for spotting that one
Show me yourself consistently landing that on a mobile player who’s not running away in a straight line without Mug and Devourer/Basilisk Venom.
What that means is, it’s not reliable against GOOD players without Mug and Devourer/Basilisk Venom.
That also means C&D is NOT a 900 range skill, and infact you’re wasting a 45s c/d class specific skill to attempt to make it one.
By that logic, all rangers should be nerfed for having 1500 range at all times.
That’s because the current set-up is kitten. Which is why people have requested countless times for buffs to this garbage weapon set. ANet even admitted to this. So, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
There’s also no reason to have a weapon set available to a class if it’s going to be of no use at all.
If you think SB and Pistols are garbage you have major L2P issues.
Did I say SB anywhere in my post? I think you have a major L2R issue.
…and @ Leriff: Unload does not apply combo abilities that easily (even if it appears that way). Each shot has a 20% chance to apply the combos. If you pay attention, you’ll notice that the combo ability definition and animation shows up, but the actual effect does not. Body Shot does a better job applying combo abilities than Unload.
(edited by Kurow.6973)
My solution that I do now for these kinds of group is simple.
If I get an odd feeling from a group, I’ll be the one to open the dungeon. This way, if they kick others, or me, the dungeon resets and kicks everyone.
Invisible Skulls has always happened.
Never had it happened in my group until today. So, I must have missed something.
is this still happen after the new update?

“Fixed a bug where players were stricken with Agony even when they avoided the Ice Elemental’s AoE ice storm”
I’m not sure as I haven’t encountered him since the update. However, as William stated, the bug is apparently fixed.

“Fixed a bug where players were stricken with Agony even when they avoided the Ice Elemental’s AoE ice storm”
This update has fixed this issue.
There’s a new issue. The previously visible AoE radius of the bombs thrown by the Dredge Boss is now invisible. Also, the bombs explode a lot faster than before (I’m not sure if this was an intended change or not).
On another note, I’m not sure if anyone else have experienced this or not, but Jade Maw is also placing invisible skull on top of people’s head.

I can’t see this. 900 range isnt bad when you have access to stealth anyway. P/P does some serious damage and being able to dump that from 1,200 range would be so roll face.
p/d let me stack you with 8 bleeds before you get close and force you to burn your dodges with my auto attack that costs me nothing then when your in range at 900 meters I get a free cnd since you blew your dodges?
Yes, leave my warrior damage and range to my warrior please. I do not need thieves having anywhere near similar capabilities.
Also, I’m curious…who blows all their dodges on auto attack against a P/D thief? Are these the same people that come to the forums whining about unnecessary nerfs and buffs?
…and while on the topic, since when is C&D a 900 range skill? Did I miss a ninja update or something?
(edited by Kurow.6973)
i kill players in 0.4 of a second as thief for those saying thief is weak you are a bunch of liars with auto attack alone i land 2.6-3k damage needless to say with daggers thats about 3-4 hits per 1.5 second my backstab does up to 8k damage on players with over 3000 armor steal alone does 7k damage itself and traited can even stealth wich links nicely -7k steal+8k backstab instantly the rest is done with auto attacks.
Oh…is that so!
hey lohanna! one last question.
How do you achieve 15k hp? is it through practiced tolerance?
WvW bonuses increases your HP.
Is this thread strictly for trolling and fairy tales?
One word: stability.
If this happened, I’d use stability a lot more often and kitten on thief even easier because they’d severely lack any kind of survivability. Without stealth, they’re nothing.
I would gladly pay 20 for all my GW1 skins. That includes all my tormenteds, and destroyers.
…but no MF listed. Why?
While on that topic, when will the influence of MF on your drops be increased…if ever?
If it gave 30 seconds of fury and swiftness instead I wouldn’t mind.
Yea…perma Fury & Might…just like those other classes.
No, I’m sorry, but Mug is fine as is.
Atm Mug adds to much dps to an already cool mechanic
lets see what thiefs mechanic realy does or can do
steal does:
- stun breaker( more or less )
- teleport
- skills stolen : mostly they add an advantage against the class you stole from ( some are beter then others but they are realy powerfull when used correctly )steal can have added :
- 3 ini regen
- poison
- stealth
- mug dps => 1k-6k depending on build ( the max hit you can get with it is to high )skill recharge is between 32-45 secs
again every thief that says mug is fine like it is = selfish and is afraid he will loos the advantage the skill brings with it.
we really don’t need the mug trait to be killers, but atm we forced to use it cause its just to OP
I’m not sure if you’re trolling or not. However, by the sounds of your comment though, it appears as though you actually don’t either play thief, or have personal grudge against the class.
Do you know what DPS means?…because it appears as though you do not, as you claim “Mug” to be a DPS skill.
Steal breaks stun? Since when?…teleport…good job, you ported right on top of me as the squishiest class in the game. Let me mop the floor with your face now (especially if you used steal to so called “break stun”).
I honestly don’t care how much they nerf thief at this point since I’ve long found a better class to play as. However, reading these nonsensical arguments and cries for unnecessary nerfs are really hard for me to ignore and turn a blind eye to.
I like a little challenge when I pvp, and the current thief is not a threat at all…and you want them to make it even weaker? That suites me fine, but it’s zero challenge for me. I’d rather go fight 3-4 people against me than fight a thief that I can roll effortlessly. If anything, DB spamming thieves are far more annoying to deal with than garbage BS thieves (which by the way are E-A-S-Y to kill)…and even then, DB thieves are still no threat…just annoying and time consuming to fight.
it was never the meaning for mug ( a 10 traits point add) to do more then 2k added dps on an already uber mechanic, the 5-6 k hits you can build to is something that needs a fix , read my post above if you want to know why its to much for the
mechanics of steal.
3 stacks of might for 15secs woud be alot more balanced then the huge spike it can bring now , steal realy doesnt need to do dps at all its just to mutch for 1 skill to have plain and simplereally wondering what is taking the devs so long to realize this. its an easy fix that doesn’t harm the class at all
Are you being serious?
(edited by Kurow.6973)
1: Pulling boss out is not an exploit. Not like you could pull him ridiculously far away or anything.
2: Wheel fix is perfectly acceptable. This was always a bug.
3: Those adds with the boss hurts…A LOT!
4: All the mobs are immune to blind. Makes the fact of dealing with hundreds of them even more annoying than it has to be.
4: LONGEST GOD KITTEN BORING FRACTALS AMONGST ALL OF THEM!
5: Buffing Elemental is fine. However, they clearly over did it.
What I have done so far with my 20 and 30 groups is I re-roll dredge stage fist now, to see if my group can get past it. If it can, it saves me the trouble of getting it as the 3rd fractal and having to completely abandon the run if the group can’t handle it.
no longer being able to seperate Rabov
Yea, I didn’t see the reason for that change either.
Not to mention the fact that they’re all immune to Blind, which just makes everything a lot more annoying and time consuming to deal with.
You can definitely do it on ele and guardian. I haven’t tried other proffs. Is it called Guild Eles 2? Instead of whining about certain proffesion why won’t you try doing it?
No other profession hits as hard with that much survivability. There’s a reason CoF speed runs ask for Wars and Mes only.
Soloing is not the issue I was referring to. The numbers flying by and the time it took him was.
…and I do own a war…and I, unlike SOME people…completely admit that the class’s damage is broken when compared to other classes. Anyone ignoring this fact is simply being…well, ignorant.
Being that thieves have high dodge, our range with non-melee weapons is more than fair. Anymore would make us extremely OP. (First post for me, yay.)
How do you figure?
We’re not meant as a class that plays at full range, nor a Thief doing so would be any effective in comparison of what it can do 900 range and below.
That’s because the current set-up is kitten. Which is why people have requested countless times for buffs to this garbage weapon set. ANet even admitted to this. So, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
There’s also no reason to have a weapon set available to a class if it’s going to be of no use at all.
Your logic is flawed.
People who use Mug outside of a Backstab build barely do any damage with it. I think it hits for roughly 800 on a typical Condition spec.
You wanna bet?
It just sounds like you’re trying to favouritize your own build(s).
Also, I like how you admit it does low damage, yet try to suggest a nerf to it, simply because it does high damage on “Backstab build”.
Currently Mug is a big part of the “ZOMG Thief instant-gibbed me” combo.
What if instead of extra burst damage, Mug applied 5 Bleeds to the target?
Not only would this reduce burst damage significantly without hurting sustainable DPS, it would also thematically suit the Deadly Arts tree better which is more about Venoms/Conditions than burst.
Sure…when we take away all the other classes’ class specific damage abilities…starting with warriors. Have you seen the damage warriors do?
Use some common sense. People who use Mug are NOT all playing ermergad steal c&d bs to kill bad players.
Deadly Arts tree is just that…DEADLY ARTS…burst damage suites it perfectly considering it PROVIDES POWER!
It’s called Guild WARS 2 for a reason…and this is one of those good examples of why.
Nobody!!!
Just elitists who think mighty of themselves.
Also, there’s a bug that occurs occasionally, where if your SR is in c/d, and you swap out another skill for SoS (not SR), your SoS will now be equipped, but be put on the same c/d timer as SR (essentially wasting time because it’ll be inactive until the c/d is up).
Only thing I ask regarding venoms atm, is that BV be instant cast (like the other venoms), or AT LEAST half the cast it has now…OR last for 2 hits, not 1.
So, what about increasing in fractal scale? The way I understood it a player at like 20 wouldn’t progress to 21 if he did a scale 19 fractal, but if a scale 19 player did scale 20 or 21 he’d progress?
Correct.
If you do a lower level, it’s same as before, you don’t progress. However, if you do a higher level, you go up 1 level.
Geez…it’s not that complicated guys.
That sounds disheartening. I am contemplating if I should bother with 30+ dailies right now, starting today.
Expect encounters like Lupi to be toned down. The boss can get ridiculous if he keeps targeting the same person constantly, especially in stage 2. You can only evade so much…and he has an extremely small aggro radius, so he tends to reset easily unless you always stay within about 900 range (max) of him. His mass AoE in stage 2 is also buggy, and can hit you even if you don’t stand on (or near) the AoE circles. Lupi is definitely in the list of encounters that will be toned down/adjusted.
(edited by Kurow.6973)
this has got to be the stupidest thing ever when your in a dungeon now you can not use a WP if any of your party is in combat !
wow this takes 95% of all the fun out of doing dungeons … so many people in my guild are !$##$%$%### off from this wow bad move A Net lame i cant even start wow .
done
It’s not a bad move, as long as they tone down A LOT of the encounters in the dungeons.
Personally, I like my necro over my thief anyday in PvP. However, that being said, I do enjoy the gameplay of thief a lot more because it tends to keep me on my toes a lot more than necro. What that means is, if you play them right, necro is easier to play effectively than thief.
A couple of months ago, amongst other things, I suggested that one of the useless traits be changed to add an additional 300 range to all pistol skills. However, ANet hasn’t commented about it.
Last I checked Scorpion Wires usually works in idea situations, it’s just that it aims for the lower torso so it’s hard to use it in a lot of situations where is would shine. ie. pulling people off walls.
That’s not the main issue with SW.
The fact that it’s obstructed by thin air, pulls enemies half-way, or simply doesn’t pull at all, yet causes a KD at the enemy’s location are the major issues of SW.
