no? lol it’s a very strong trait. condi duration increases dps A LOT.
Spoken like a pve hero.
While I want Anet to focus more on WvW, I very much understand pve will always be the main focus of the game in an MMO. Maybe you should understand this too.
I would argue that they haven’t focused on pve anymore than they have on the other game types. I suppose you could argue that they haven’t done skill splits for WvW, but then that is a mix of pve and pvp (since you are working alongside a lot of other people against a lot of other people and it’s not about personal glory like pvp is). So I’m not sure how that works.
Does WvW get the pvp or the pve versions of stuff? I feel like it should get the pvp version, but not sure…
Most of the time, wvw gets the pve version of the skill rather than pvp. But it isn’t always the case.

What’s with reviving this old as kitten thread? :/
That’s what us necros do. Revive old dead things.
I mean they used the Southsun Cove map for the Southsun Survival activity so I don’t see why they can’t do the same for this.
at least, laziness is my justification when i do this
Glad to see someone admit this. Too many peeps that demand passive 25% (cough cough guardians) try to justify it despite the obvious signs of laziness. Kudos sir.
Not really a fair comparison to guardians who have big opportunity costs to get decent speed(traveler runes, or at least 2 of retreat/save yourself/waiting in staff symbol) where we have various options all with overall minor costs (streamlined kits, mecha legs, or just lightning field blasts with scrapper).
Point being, I’d be more sympathetic to guardians if they just straight up said they are lazy and want a passive 25%.
After the desert borderland fiasco, I’d think it unlikely.
However it would be great if made a new map based upon the alpine borderlands but updated and modified using suggestions from pure WvW players.

I like to think that necros are actually one of the few classes with quite a number of viable builds for WvW which we can explore and experiment further.
I’d like to think that too, but here’s two words that completely void what you think: deathly chill.
Its a good reply though.
We can only hope they convert it into a pure power trait when the new expac hits.
no thanks, plaguelands is awesome and a dps boost. for immersion we should get a ride the lighting type of skill that makes us a fast traveling plague, some orr mobs do it and cm p2 boss
Plaguelands reconfirms that Arenanet make the game for PvE ONLY which angers all competitive players no end.
Or that they’re starting to make elites that have use in all game modes instead of ones that only have niche use.
Our necromantic power has just increased!
Is Thread Necromancy a problem in the Necromancer forum?
Can it even be a problem?
You know what I say when I see a year-old thread lifeless and neglected?
“Rise!”
And you know what i say when a dev closes the thread?
“No! I hand-raised that minion!”
All I know is my gut says maybe.
Because it’s easier to change skills than change AI/encounters that would require more build “variety.”
That isn’t to say there still aren’t about 50% useless skills out there… spirit weapons, racial skills, a bunch of signets still, and even falling traits.
If we’re just speaking in terms of PvE balance that is.
Racial skills should never be useful though. Not in a competitive level anyway.
Going on your power themed trait, I want them to make Reaper’s Deathly Chill deal damage each time you chill a foe but make it scale from power. Since Condi will likely be getting its own elite spec, it would be good to turn Reaper into a pure power spec.
Honestly though, they should have stuck a double flip skill on the turret so you have Deploy → overcharge → self destruct (after overcharge recharges it will flip once again). I don’t like that you can’t use overcharge at will.
It is terrible in pvp
Curses is pretty perfect when it comes to the 3rd trait pick. You got 1 for pve (lingering curse), 1 for pvp (weakening shroud) and 1 for wvw (parasitic contagion).
Perhaps ANet should merge Absolute Resolution with Battle Presence like they did with Permeanting Wrath.
Virtue of Resolve’s effect passive is stronger and can be shared with nearby allies. Activating Virtue of Resolve removes 3 conditions from nearby allies.
I’d be either really for this or totally against depending on whether they merged it into a 2nd or 3rd tier trait. I wouldn’t want to have to choose between the 3 condi removal or stability/stun break on f3.
It use to be worse. Enemies could block you but still send messages which was very aggravating.
Clearly you missed out on the cancerous pvp turret tank meta a few months before traits were changed to specializations.
looks at watch
Yup, two weeks since the last one of these threads. Can we PLEASE get this topic stickied?
Excuse me. How do you make thaw elixir?
Anet could easily fix if they didn’t want it to be (removed auto cast from nightfall and remove exp/loot tag from all AI creatures). My guess is they are working on it or don’t mind it existing.
As I said to a guy in map chat, I don’t really mind it though. In fact they help by killing the annoying spiders that slow you down during berry runs.instead of changing skills which might hurt them why not actually take action and ban who ever uses a bot
Except they aren’t using a bot. They’re using a set of skills that are working as Anet intended and getting these results. Killing part of your fan base instead of fixing it is a very bad way to go about things. My idea would, in theory, fix both the necro spider farm and engi leather farm.
edit: the only time I’ve seen people use Nightfall on auto cast is for either afk farming or in wvw to afk reward track. Seems like a bad design to me, that should be removed.
(edited by Lahmia.2193)
Someone suggested changes to resistance : resistance doesn’t negate applied condition effect, but prevents further condition application. I think that was a not so bad idea.
So pretty much the previous incarnation of Berserker Stance and Diamond Skin. Rev Demon stance would need a bit of tweaking but it could work.
Roaming is 100% irrelevant and should never be the cause of any manner of balance change.
I’m pretty sure Anet agrees, given how many cancerous roaming builds have existed for years.
Because it affects targets individually rather than your overall crit chance. Same with Target the Weak in the Curses Line.
Aye Signets don’t work in shroud.
Pretty sure the only fractal to have both is lvl 85 (urban battleground) which can be avoided by doing lvl 78 for t4 daily – correct me if I am wrong.
On the debate about preferences, I much prefer toxic trails. Mainly due to the amount of idiot pugs that run into you as you stand perfectly still, when you have Social Awkwardness.

This is what WALL-E warned us about.
This one time I transferred 20 stacks of burning to a guardian and he died in one tick. Should they nerf burning too?
The only problem with the defence potion is that, if you are the only one using it (and everyone is running 1k toughness), then you will draw even more aggro because of it. Personally, I’d go for offensive or mobility first. As a thief your main defence is dodging and mobility potion basically gives you perma Vigor.
Red here atm and definitely not winning… we’re last place :P
Woops meant on NA. Unless mos is playing me for a chump.
You just killed your own argument. Nice work.
Who said I was arguing? Clearly stated it was a subjectively interesting observation.
Just tested and also not receiving retaliation. Still only removing 1 boon too. Poor thing.

All the current red servers are winning their matchups. Also red servers have desert borderland as their home. Coincidence? I think not.
So do you ever thing Anet will actually change Soul Eater so it is useful? And no, being used to afk farm Bitterfrost Frontier spiders does not count as useful.
Keep in mind QT posts builds that usually use top tier food. I don’t know about you but I’d rather build myself so I can run cheap provisioner food for stuff like t4 fractals.
Complaining about condition damage is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. The application of conditions is through skills, same as power builds.
Just play with viper and compared it to play with berserker. You will see condition application is no easier than doing power damage.
The problem lays with Dire and Trailblazers. Condi builds can become super tanky whilst only doing slightly less condition damage (due to less on crit conditions). The same level of damage cannot be attained with the equivalent power stats (soldiers and wanderers). If they removed or revamped these stats, I guarantee condition qq would drop dramatically.
GW2 will go down as one of the best MMOPVP combat systems that its creators slowly dwindled to irrelevance.
Yeahhhhh no. As much as I love and enjoy gw2, Gw1 had a far superior combat system (though they did overdo the amount of skills you could use thus making it a balance nightmare).
For casual fights it is great. Its like playing gw2 when it had just started, only you have awesome gear.
Great for those people that purely play wvw and get their trinkets from reward tracks. With all the victory gathers you might just have enough UBM to purchase the trinkets without having to consume/salvage any currency.
How does one consume shards of rocks or logs?
By eating them if you’re manly enough.
Oh how I dream for the day when I can consume Blood Rubies, Petrified Wood and Jade Shards like Fire Orchid Blossoms/Fresh Winterberries, instead of having to salvage each one. Please make it so Anet.
This seems to have really gone off track, given he was asking which is better for leveling out of dagger and axe.
In short I’d say bring both. Dagger/warhorn and Axe/Focus. Engage with a/f #4 then #2. Swap to d/w #5 and auto attack.
It’s up to you, in large part, but … power minion master with axe MH is pretty reasonable, and scepter condition with minions is also pretty reasonable. Once you unlock reaper, moving to scepter/greatsword condition is also good.
Basically, minions are not amazing compared to some of the other options available, but they are a good starter.
Oh, and it’s berserker for PvE power DPS, vipers for condition DPS, mostly. metabattle.com and quantify.eu will tell you the fine details of the best theorycrafting done at the moment.
Base power vs reaper power are very different
Base is zerk, yes. But the second you get decimate defense its a massive waste of stats. Valk is both safer and in a few cases leads to more dps uptime simply due to your immense ability to shrug things off even without ds
Considering he was asking for open world, what you said about valk being better than zerker is kitten. Valk is only ever better when you have allies to provide buffs for you (like in a raid setting), so that you gain 100% crit chance with fury, banners , decimate defenses and the small amount of precision you have taken to begin with.
In open world you’re gonna be solo for the most part so having 50% crit chance (near exactly what you gain from full zerker) + decimate defenses is perfect. Also valk achieves the higher dps through expensive food, not something you want for general pve.
Its foreshadowing I’d assume. There might be a self bleed theme on the new elite spec… Sounds strange, but its on theme. Power at any cost!
Are you trying to say… that the necro doesnt have a selfbleeding/poisoning/weakness theme?
I forgot that Dark Pact was actually a Corruption skill.
for lvling just use dagger/x for melee and axe/x for range.
dagger was nerfed to 2 targets.
*buffed
It use to be single target.
Utility minions are useless in all game modes – maybe except questing.
Fixed it for you. Blood fiend/flesh golem are arguably the best current pve necro heal and elite.
Hey, wanna hear a hilarious joke? ANET buffed the axe trait to 300 ferocity. But it’s not like we can actually use it, since it competes with berserker’s power. Isn’t that hilarious? Gee, I wonder why they dedicated the time and effort into that! It’s such a huge accomplishment for the next 4 months!
I’m not sure ANet understands that Axe Mastery (w/ 100% crit chance, no sacrifice in DPS output … ) and ALWAYS using an Axe (must have Axe always in one of your hands) = 300 Ferocity or +20% increased damage versus +21% from Berserker’s Power that has 10s in length after one Adrenaline 3 use.
If ANet really wanted Warriors to use Axe Mastery, it would have been swapped with some other trait (Merciless Hammer) in some other common line (Discipline).
Or made it compete with Forceful Greatsword, because that’s logically thing to do.
this is kittened anet,
i bought my 3 harvesting tools one by one so 1000 gems each
i have a Mine-r-Tron
a Chop-It_All_Logging Axe
and a Consortium Harvesting sickle
i paid 3000 gems in total. i get you put them in a bundle and we get discount cuzz we spend more at once but the fact that they give players EXTRA BONUSES (the unbound magic) is just kittened. why do i pay 3000 gems and get unlimited uses, while someone who happened to buy this set of unlimited gathering tools get extra free magic ? just explain that please.
So did I. And they have served me faithfully over these past few years. No regrets.
Another great thing when you drop the bundle, it can be picked up from the ground again.
