Pretty much all melee weapons have 130 range, but they can actually hit at 170. So its very very unlikely that they’d make this change for thief Staff only.

Blind is not stackable, only causes one attack to miss, and is a condition that can be easily removed without using a stun break.

With all those handicaps, why does it feel so weak? No damage, no healing, no control effect, no stacking intensity or stacking charges. In an auto attack like Necromancer dagger, blind only prevents one of the 3 hit chain from landing while weakness reduces damage by 25% and affects endurance for the full duration.

It doesn’t help with the amount of aoe players can pump out nowadays either.

Also as a general comment towards the Chilling Darkness icd removal idea, the only reason I’d be against it is in doing so, once again we’d get another skill to add to the growing pile of condi skills. I’m looking for a power buff instead.

More pets equals more balance issues when we start talking about any form of different or unique attack. If they went with some form of common attack or buff then it could be possible.

If nothing else, how about granting us the annoying but wondering pack of pocket raptors That is what I’m after. Or give us a trap that we can lay, that is a small crate and when triggered BAM – little guys attack.

Just a swarm of pocket raptors as the actual pet would be great! Counting as a single pet of course, and very glass cannon.

If we dont get 25% movement trait with firebrand/purifier will switch to another class probably.

Seems like a fairly trivial reason to switch to a different class.

Well after 5 years with traveler runes I want to try something else in wvw without moving like a snail. And pls dont say you have swiftness cause I don’t have it nor will use it unless I can change skills in combat.

And what if it comes to a choice between a very useful trait and the movement trait? Like Druid with its Natural Stride and Verdant Etchings.

It’s rather have a tough choice than no choice at all.

See that’s the thing, you already do. Switch out that one rune for traveler/speed, or that one utility for Retreat. Tough choice.

That one rune being all 6 runes, which is not a choice of the class, it’s generic gear and therefore irrelevant.

Retreat alone doesn’t give permaspeed, you have to slot it and trait it, and hold the staff, too. You need a specific weapon, trait and utility. The rest of the classes only need 1 utility or 1 trait to do the same, and some don’t even use a major trait.

So, yes, a tough choice, but not uniquely tough for guardian in particular.

That one referring to a specific rune that is keystone to your build.

First of all, that’s not spam, that’s just a list of skills that apply blindness.
Secondly, including Well of Darkness makes no sense when your original argument was “…given how much blind we can already spam”, as in without WoD.
And finally, non of those skills in any combination would justify an icd on Chilling Darkness.

PS: you forgot darkfield combos, corrupted fury, transfers and that useless minion.
Still no spam.

Apologies re-read your first comment and yes you are right about it being a silly icd for pve. And by pve I don’t mean wvw, since it was because of wvw that it gained the icd in the first place.

7/7/2015 we shall never forget.
Damage on Well of Power, I’m indifferent to. Well of Suffering levels would be too much given it is already a condi convert to boon and stun break (plus, minor as it is, grants a little bit of stability). If it were to receive a buff, I’d go for doubling the conditions converted instead.

I’m guessing the sand theme probably has to do with the new leaked desert related maps.

Then how is Reaper tied to HoT ?!?! Chill and jungle, mhm but anyway, story driven skills sound cool. we had many such skills in gw1.

Well we did have dragon hunter as a name so why not sand as a theme.

I’m ok with sand, but I still cringe when I see Dragon hunter, so unfitting for guardian… There is absolutely nothing dragon in the DH

If anything, that may come from the fact that nightfall’s undead are mostly awakened statues. Simply speaking the spirit possess a lump of sculpted earth/iron/gold. This could be a decent explanation. Hwever, I got no explanation or theory for them associating this thing to the name “scourge”. Thought I also got some issue associating “scourge” with any kind of support especially the forementioned support via “barrier” that absorb damage.

I think people are piling a lot of their idea onto a blurry concept from which we only reliably got the name. It’s fun to have some idea but it’s dangerous to take them from granted.

First thing I thought of when I heard Scourge was “the Scourge of Vabbi” aka Palawa Joko, the undead lich lord. I’m fairly sure that’s what Anet wants us to think.

Many ideas have been suggested throughout the ages on how to buff Well of Darkness. So often I find them to be a bit too complex, meaning a lot of effort on Anet’s part just for one skill.
So with that in mind:

Idea 1: Add damage. Well of Corruption levels of damage (3.0). Keep the current cooldown as blind isn’t on par with 1% life force and boon corrupt. This would also mean on a pure pve power build, it would take the place of WoC if boons weren’t a problem.

Idea 2: Add projectile block. They did it for Corrosive Poison Cloud, they can do it for Well of Darkness! Would make a good alternative to CPC on power builds, especially in places WvW.

Feel free to add your own ideas or to tell me why I’m wrong.

The damage for your d/d 1, 2 and 3 skills are all based solely on mainhand weapon damage.

So you’d get the increased stats from the ascended/legendary offhand, but the weapon damage increase barely does you any good, with 4 and 5 being mostly for utility.

So having 2nd incinerator is useless? because i have 2 sitting in my storage.

If you have them, then use them both. I presumed you planned on making 2 incinerators, hence my original statement.

Why not just go the Illusion of Life route and have it on a short-ish cast time (1.25s) and res downed allies. However if they do not kill a exp giving foe within 15s they go back down again.

Yes you can. Considering the following however. A while back they introduced the Wardrobe system, which allows you to use any unlocked skin and apply it to another weapon (if you have enough transmutation charges). So you could make 1 Incinerator and duel wield it with an exotic dagger that has an Incinerator skin, rather than having to make 2 Incinerators.

Why nerf all professions when you can nerf just one?

They just don’t want the critters to survive for a long time because they were not designed to do so. It sure hurt players but, in all honesty, using a transform skill just to exploit a gimmick brought by 1 skill out of the 5 skills of the transform, that’s a little cheap.

They should just give up and remove the transform “elite” skills from the game. It can only make this game healthier.

kitten, I still remember Lich being go-to power skill because its AA was most potent attack available to necro. Oh, the horror…

Good old pre HoT power well necro. Forms are very outdated though. Whether you want them to be deleted and replaced or updated, they do need something to happen to them badly.

Still sweeping this under the rug are we? Nerfed the skill too harshly and unnecessarily to prevent an exploit very few of us actually abused… instead you could have just removed adrenal mushrooms from raids…

They did remove adrenal mushrooms from certain areas, to stop said abuse and replaced with a recharge all skills on party wipe mechanic instead. Some areas did retain adrenals though, like the spirit woods.

Sorry, we had no such advantage when we killed Zhaitan.

We had the pact, the airship fleet, we had the knowledge of what to do to make Zhaitan weak (we killed his eyes and mouth) and we had the Asura tech which was ultimately what killed him.

The armies of the world were not able to deal with any of the Elder Dragons for years and years. Entire civilizations were ruined or forced to move by them (Orr, Zephyrites, Asura, Kodan, Quaggan, Norn).

None of them were united. That’s sort of the main theme of gw2. The Dragons are stronger than each race, but united (and with the appropriate amount of knowledge and asura tech) we are stronger.

The army of the entire world (the Pact) was taken down by Mordremoth. Yet our PC, assisted (?) by a handful of associates, will deal with these ancient beings!

This was because the Pact were overconfident. They blinded flew into the jungle and expected to win through firepower alone. It also didn’t help that the sylvari were turned when battle commenced.
We learnt the ways of the jungle and from the mistakes of the Pact. Then we allied with those who lived there and thus were able to turn the tide and defeat Mordremoth.

Why exactly would you want to? I mean it inflicts a tiny amount of weakness (useless vs raid bosses) and vuln (which should be capped by your group already). Also it takes up your utility consumable slot, which is basically like shooting yourself in the little finger.

We have engaged into battle with a god, we were a wolf spirit for a norn PS level and we were super OP so ill take a guess and say we shouldnt be able to fight a god 1 vs 1 and win it but we ran in there and did.

Something so many people missed during the story is that Balthazar specifically says he lost his power. Hence why he wanted to kill Primo and steal its power.

So I just go the Endless Mystery Cat Tonic today (best purchase ever). The only problem is the duration on it which is 5 minutes. While this isn’t a big problem, a lot of tonics have a short duration for almost no reason. I understand that mechanically, making them have infinite duration might be impossible. But is it too much to ask for a minimum of say 30minutes or an hour duration?

hmm and here I thought the design philosphy of necromancer was, have what other classes have, but worse, and it costing you and arm and a leg to use it (figuratively and literally). seriously tho, I agree with where youre going with this the whole ‘victory at any cost’. The buff youre suggesting through sounds a lot like what druids have with grace of the land. But considering AN gave revenants alacarity, maybe down the line necros could get a similar skill to GotL.

Ya know what? Screw the revenant! Since day one of it’s reveal, it’s been stealing crap from other professions (pre-launch Mallyx and Herald shield) so now it’s our turn!

Lets make BiP an upkeep skill! Except instead of energy, you just pulse bleed to yourself.

As someone once wisely said, “Revenant is proof Anet looks at the Necro forum.”

I doubt they will function exactly like kits tbh. It doesn’t make sense to have no CD on them as it would generally make the entire virtues line pointless. If they do function exactly like kits it’s pretty meh. I love having a more intricate rotation compared to the braindead spam we have now but if I wanted keyboard piano I’d just play my engi.

They could take a leaf out of Revenant’s book, considering the pictures suggest they have some sort of energy/initiative system. So lower cooldowns but not something you can mindlessly spam.

Greatsword is the best power weapon, but condi still outpaces power by a lot. Ironically the current meta condi build also uses greatsword alongside sceptre/dagger.

Hmm… Elite skill: Set yourself on fire and run in a 240 circle 5 times, once (pulse) per second, setting fire to your enemies (2 sec burning per pulse). Combination fire field.

Warrior torch has exactly that

Really wanted a skill like this for Necro. Nightfall would have been an ideal candidate.

When you hit a foe, it increases you crit chance against them by 2% for each stack of vuln on them. You won’t see any change on your stat bar or any buff by your skill bar because it works separately for each foe.

Talk about a drama queen though. I never said delete them. If people want to use them they can. But at the end of the day, AI takes no skill to use and does the work for you. That’s never a healthy thing for a game.

Necros have AI that they bring to pvp, so if that’s acceptable, then Spirit Weapons should be as well.

Keeping a whole skill type at a sorry state because it’s against your sensibilities is stupid, those skills exist and they shouldn’t awful to use.

Who says you can’t bring Spirit Weapons to pvp? I mean you’ll get laughed at for sure, but no less than necros who bring a full set of minions.

How much of the population drop was really related to DBL though versus the unbalancing effects of the new elite specs and the resulting OP boonsharing meta that was also introduced with HoT?

Well considering when people talk about HoT almost killing WvW, the talking point is always the maps rather than the power creep.

You know what, you’re right. They should just delete spirit weapons, and rangers too while they’re at it. /s

I guess you didn’t live through the pvp Turret tank Engi meta? It’s a stark reminder of why AI skills should never be top tier or even meta.

As for Rangers, well that’s something a lot of players have been wanting to be removed or revamped. Hell the the biggest speculation about Druid was whether or not they’d implement it. But it is just the 1 AI minion, so it isn’t something that can carry you through the game. So I have no qualms with it.
edit: also look at the 2 current farms going on in Lake Doric and Bitterfrost Frontier. Afk farmers using Engi turrets or Necro minions to kill stuff for them.

Ritual of Life: Yes. It’s a free heal if your friend goes down with added bonuses if you are spec’d for wells.

Life from Death: Overshadowed by 2 better traits (or as I call it, the Soul Eater effect).

Well of Blood: Again, out paced by better heals. It was the original necro party heal skill but was completely blown out of the water by Signet of Vampirism.

New to what? Your group? I would suggest finding a group who isn’t toxic or kitten their way through thinking by reading reddit and thinking Tempest is better. I use thief in my raid group and we one-bang everything without issue.

As for “but pugs rate everything by DPS”: Well considering Staff thief is ranked third highest on DPS benchmarks, I doubt this is the case or you’re not doing your job properly as the thief.

The only time I’ve seen an issue is Tempest > Thief because Tempest bring more utility, but in the case of “DPS meter”, absolutely not. Not sure why you’re even talking about pugs when you say you’re in a raid guild and have a group.

I think you’re a bit behind on the current benchmarks.
edit: but at the end of the day, experience of the raid and of your profession is what is most important. I’d take an experienced Thief over a less than experienced Ele any day of the week.
