Well with white knighting like this, it’s no wonder wvw never gets quality of life updates.

Hardly. It’s clear that Anet wants people to waypoint if there isn’t a chance for their allies to res them immediately. I mean in the past they’ve added a 5minute death respawn timer and stopped allies from res’ing whilst in combat. If that isn’t a sign you should waypoint instead of hugging the dirt, whilst bags pile up around you, I don’t know what is.

necro staff is the worst weapon in the game. also the ugliest. 4 skills doing the same thing visually is underwhelming. there is no variety to it and im not pleased aesthetically with it. also the weakest for dps support and control.
dps = close to 0
support = regeneration, condi transfer. wow
control = 1x fear, great

Depends on how you look at it. You’ve got 4 skills that, if traited, are unblockable life force generating instant hit 5 target 1200 range aoes. #2 is a spammable bleed/regen skill. #3 is a snare + anti regen (with massive synergy with necro traits). #4 can transfer 3 condi per foe hit which potentially is every condi in the game. And #5 is an aoe fear, again, with great synergy with Reaper traits. I’d say it was arguably the most useful weapon in the game.
And to your point about it being visually underwhelming. Who cares? I’d take a weapon with amazing utility over one that’s all animations, no substance.
It’s very much a pvp/wvw weapon. Don’t expect it to have much use in pve.

Solution: respawn immediately and don’t wait around expecting a res. You’ll receive any bags that drop automatically once you respawn, just not the ones that dropped whilst you were laying dead on the floor.

For the first time ever, when capping the courtyard circle, once we killed all the foes the circle didn’t turn blue and start capping. Tried to /gg and respawn but to no avail. Ended up resetting the fractal but it was fine the next try. Anyone else had this happen?

TBH I am happy with the way it works now. You will always have people that take advantage of any system that Anet puts out. The same with ever other online game I have ever played. People will find loop holes and take advantage of them.

That being said, I think keep the opinions coming! We have to give feedback of what we think and want in WvW.

People like coldplay and voted for the kittens. You can’t trust people.

If you’re getting spawn camped, go out of the other 2 exits. It’s your own fault if you keep dying for an hour and you don’t deserve rewards for that.

yah! you deserve them only if u get t3 participation by killing a couple of npcs and then standing around afk instead!

I mean the rewards you get from pip chests are pretty minimal, so the whole half afk way of doing things for rewards is real inefficient. And the amount of people actually doing it (at least on my server) is massively exaggerated, probably because people realise how dumb it is.

Uhh Dhummfire might be a bit imbalanced there. I mean, marks are unblockable… so you could only evade them or go invul and yet you propose to reward people who evade them by burning them, confusing them, or tormenting them xD At least you made them dodge. Now they have one less to dodge your other attacks, no?

I’d be happy with just soul marks providing additional CD reduction and making that kitten staff autoattack faster by a bit.

See the thing is, staff already had all bar 1 of its traits made baseline (larger marks, cooldown reduction and +10% damage on marks).

Wouldnt make sense for invulnerable dolyak to only be useable while the camp is under attack though for example
so that rule should really only apply to Keep & SM Tactivators

Rather, it would encourage players to do nothing but flip keeps. Probably by running in circles with the other servers capping keeps while refusing to defend their own.

Otherwise known as a Ktrain, which belongs in eotm.

Anet intentionally made it so you don’t get pips like you do with wvw exp. A player that only wants to flip camps can (with a few variables) earn an equal amount to a zergling.

After the clusterkitten that was the desert borderland, I’d be very very surprised if they made another one.

DBL is great. If you do not like it fine, do not go there. I have had some of the most epic fights ever on the DBL. I for one am glad they made it.

I’m glad you like it, honestly I really do. But no one can deny it wasn’t a clusterkitten. While there were many aspects to the events that followed, DBL was one of the main reasons why many WvWers left after the HoT release. I mean they did end up removing it and bringing back the much more loved Alpine Borderlands.

And if someone says “well they brought back DBL on a vote”, that vote stated that if people said no to it, Anet would stop any major future updates to WvW. So it was very much a hands tied situation.

I am talking about new players. For example, the players joined the game after HOT release. They have no chance gaining any tournament ticket and experiencing a WvW tournament. Is it fair? Nope.

They’ll also never have the chance to die of smallpox. Proper tragedy that is.

Are they a pain in the kitten when an enemy zerg engages you? Yes. And yes I know experienced groups will move away from lords room when this happens, but that just shows they are detrimental to the tactics an attacking commander can use.

I have to admit, I get a real kick out of duoing the firekeep lord. I haven’t had a chance to try a full solo, but I was doing alright to about 50% of her health before help arrived, once.

As for this statement:

Given that the lord is the ‘boss’ of the structure, it makes no sense to me that enemy zergs should be able to bunker in lord room and turn it into an advantageous situation for themselves. It’s ok if that’s a strategy they decide to employ, but the lord should be a significant drawback if they go that route.

Just imagine if SMC or any of the other keeps had the DBL keep lords. All those awesome lord room fights (some of the fondest memories I personally have of WvW), would never happen because it would be so detrimental to the attacker to fight near the lord.

Contest doesn’t solve anything, the pulling of tactics when a keep is contested cos enemy is on outer is still a complete waste and an advantage to the attacking server cos there is nothing to use on the more important inner or Lord’s Room.

“x player pulled the x tactic” would then provide anet with some tracking info to do something about griefers.

As I said, it’s not going to stop them completely but its a start. And as for removing tactics, that’s just a terrible idea. Trolls are pretty bad but not that bad. I’ve had plenty of well timed EWP’s these past few weeks, that far outweigh the times we’ve needed an EWP but couldn’t use because of a troll pull.

While it won’t completely stop trolls, it would at least force them to use it during a time that could still make it beneficial to your side, thus possibly discouraging them. Also add the "x player has pulled x tactic, with a toggle option in case you really don’t care.

Truly though? If the person is a troll, they’ll enjoy the attention. We see it all the time.

A range indicator for portal is all that’s needed to be honest. Hell they could even make it so, when you place the portal and run past its max range, the current red bar indicator pops up to show you’ve gone too far (if they haven’t already – I never play mesmer).

Maybe I’m a minority here but I’m of the mind that the keep lord should have very little impact on the fight.

As I said, 100% think DBL lords are annoying, don’t let trolls, and people misunderstanding my post, confuse you.

The HoT expansion added all that things to PvE, that’s ok, because on PvE everybody is your ally, you don’t need to worry about 120 players trying to kill you.

I don’t think DBL lords are annoying. I like fighting them way more than the potato lords in ABL and EBG, because I have a working brain and I am not completely undone by a minimal amount of boss mechanics. And I only play WvW. So once again, there goes your “100%” , please don’t make claims based on nothing, it severely weakens your already fragile argument.

I don’t see why any veteran WvW player would oppose changes to base pips, giving new players a little more incentive to continue with the game mode and hopefully help revitalize it. Our veteran bonuses wouldn’t change, we’d still get rewards faster than the newbies.

If these “veteran” players really don’t care about the rewards like they claim not to, then I don’t see why they’re even posting in this thread to begin with. It seems like they do actually care about rewards, but by golly I don’t think they’ll admit that. Would they?

A question to all WvW players opposing changes to base pips to make it easier on the newcomers: Do you care about WvW rewards more than the WvW game mode?

I am opposed because i dont want wvw to become eotm. If its not something people plan on playing longterm for how does that help wvw? Ppl come in get candy and leave. E.g. Tournaments.

Exactly. Rewards are an incentive to play, but shouldn’t be the sole reason to play. It’s also why I prefer them tied to skirmish rewards rather than by capping objectives, as that too would only cause a ktrain.

I have personally tried condi the last month and its kitten easy conpared to power reaper wich i prefer. There are no ways to avoid damage or have high burst that LANDS ON ENEMYS , no stability in amy way efective no evades blocks imunitys to cc. Power reaper is a free lootbag in most fights as to the new condi reapa puts up a fight and actually does very very well. Give a power trait that provides evades on skills resistance etc and maybe we wont get 1stun dead or 1imobilize dead.

That’s how power creep happens. When you buff one thing to keep up with another thing that is overpowered. Unless everything is brought in line which would be one massive balance.

“Annoying” is subjective. You cannot possibly hope the game to be tailored exactly to your subjective tastes, can you?

I’d be surprised to see the majority of wvw players say that the DBL keep lords aren’t annoying. Especially the air keep lords stability stripping ring and annoying teleportation. And this is after it was nerfed too.

it was pretty obvious they would start pushing a condi meta a long time ago when zerk was the only thing being used in wvw and every one was crying omg condi is useless …. I wonder if they are still thinking about introducing more underwater game play or if they totally gave up on that after removing the one underwater pvp map ????

People forget this and then wonder why condi is so strong now. It’s very much a case of “be careful what you wish for.”

Here’s the thing though, we wanted Condi to be a competitive alternative to the, “Berserker Meta”, not completely overshadow it to the point what we have today, as it is, Berserker is still strong, but the sustain/tankyness and general level of, “LOLGetRektKID” level of ease condition builds have nowadays. The devs went above and beyond when, “Not making Condi useless.”

To play the Devil’s Advocate, it is very poetic. Once power reigned supreme and condi was useless. Now condi reigns supreme and power is useless. Someday we will go back to power > condi and the Circle of Balance will go on. If everyone joins the meta however, it is likely to shift quicker.

I mean you can that’s what pretty much most of the WvW community that’s active have done. It seems that the ANet dev was 100% completely correct in his assumption in saying. Something alone the lines of… WvWers are nothing but PvEers.

Barely anyone wants to fight these days. All people want to do is just stack on a sever for effortless PvE wins in a RvR game mode. Nothing but K-Training bandwagoners, and Fairweathers. I’m the latter because of the prior. I mean rewards are nice and all only if you are already high rank. I do believe those who have invested more into this game mode should be rewarded, maybe even more.

However playing against a monster multi omin blobing server that are just K-Trainers. With like at most 20 to 30 people across all maps on server and links. Just makes me personally not even want to bother. ANet refuses to increase AOE caps so RIP me. And all of the other solo, to small group(2 -4) roamers.

Nothing other then drastically raising the AOE cap will give much smaller but coordinated groups a chance. More so when they are getting ran over by mindless 40 – 60 man blob trains on every map.

Fun in this game mode is only afforded to the mindless P2W guys.

Increasing the aoe cap won’t save a 30 man group from an omni blob. If anything, it will just wipe you quicker.

but its pretty rich of you to observe 8 seconds of play and call me bad after getting +1 by a condi reaper while playing a rev.

I made this thread because you claim condi necro is super op and needs a nerf. Then you post a video showing said results. Said video shows you downing the first necro only to be attacked by 2 necros and killed with relative ease. That would happen to anyone, regardless of their skill. Not because condi necro is super op but because you were already half health, 1 heal skill on cooldown and then got jumped by 2 players.

The problem with condis is that they are super easy to reaply nomatter how many cleanses the target has, condi damage stats should be glass cannon if they wan to do high damage ouput be in condis or phisical, players need to sacrifice surviability.

oh wait would not be balance for pve….

Lets not forget perma boons are just as bad and has pushed the game into this condi meta.

If there a major hit to condis boons duration and or power of the boons effect need to be looked at.

Chilling Darkness. Why such a nerf?

Back to the original topic.

Controversial idea incoming:
Revert Chilling Darkness nerf, so it no longer has an ICD.
Change functionality of Well of Darkness by removing the blind (gasp!), adding a (3.0) damage modifier and adding projectile block.
Reason why?
If they did buff Chilling Darkness by removing the icd, this would just make Well of Darkness into another pure condi spam skill. Removing the blind and adding damage/projectile block would cement it as a useful power skill, that could replace Well of Corruption and add a power alternative to corrosive poison cloud.

So both power and condi necro could be buffed without infringing too much on the other.

I really doubt it would hurt anybody if well of darkness did the same damage as well of corruption. I also dont think that removing the ICD of chilling darkness would be that OP. The only really critical skill is well of darkness, and even then its a pulsing field you can easily dodge out of in pvp scenarios, and it would maybe help with the dps on PVE condi builds. I cant tell if the added damage of the well would be a net dps increase over the 180 power from signet of spite though.

It was because of thee Well of Darkness/Chilling Darkness/Bitter Chill combo that Anet nerfed Chilling Darkness to begin with. And that was before they introduced Reaper and Deathly Chill. So I doubt they’d revert the nerf now. Thus my suggestion.

Sig of Spite would always be better though, since it effects all damage you do.

To the people that want condi nerfed, I hope you enjoy the tank meta. Your power builds will still be useless.

You mean like the condi tank meta now? A good percentage of condition players in WvW are already running full dire or trailblazer. If not they are at the very least mixing them with viper. I don’t believe the damage with condition play is as important to address as the way they can be quickly reapplied with a dozen other cover conditions on top. That being said, there are several aspects that need to be looked at…

  1. The rate at which conditions can be reapplied by one player
  2. The resistance boon (rate of application and current strength being 100% negation)
  3. The current condition meta using gear that adds significant toughness and vitality while being able to deal high amounts of damage

About that last bullet point… while there are similar gear stats for power that add vitality or toughness along with significant damage application rarely can you find a situation that utilizes both. Condition gear can significantly mitigate both types of damage while dealing a very good amount of damage in the process. I don’t think this healthy for a PvP mode.

I’m fine with condi tanky gear being nerfed, but they have to nerf general tankiness as well. After all it was the tank creep that led to condi meta being a thing, since old school backline power setups became useless.

2 second increase to be able to blast finish your own water or ice fields?
I wish my ranger had a blast finisher on their weapon bar (or at all) on a 6s c/d. Instead we got some mediocre changes to a garbage weapon option, half of it only in pvp.

Staff ele just got better. Be happy.

Necro Staff Suggetion

While I agree with you, in that marks don’t need to be changed to trigger on the currently non triggerable, you did make me laugh when you said Necro Staff is one of the most powerful weapons in game. Useful? Yes. Powerful? No.

This topic is about WvW since OP is talking about siege and downed players. The necro is the second most common class with the most used and powerful ranged weapon in the game. Condi builds, roamers, well bombers, it doesnt matter as no one in the right mind will run without the staff, it’s so far off the table it’s unthinkable. It even have the guardian lootstick beat by far since that weapon is fairly useless for anything but large scale.

In PvE I’d agree with you.

Either way there are few weapons that doesnt have flaws. Melee weapons is melee. 600 or 900 range instead of 1200 range is common, but instead their attacks do AoE or condis or whatever. Short distances for secondary AoE skills. Long cooldowns. Other things like that to keep it balanced. The staff has literally no flaws except for the marks not triggering on downed and possibly the autoattack not instakilling everything it touches. Hell you dont even have to suffer projectile travel time on the marks. If my engineer pistols had that advantage on one of it’s attacks I’d jump in joy. Instead we got a kittenty immobilize that last a second if lucky with a projectile that travels about as fast as an immobilized necro and will hit the targetted area 5 seconds after whoever was there has already ran away. Also it’s 700 range for some inexplicable reason that defies logic.

Yet people complain about the necro staff not being able to trigger on downed people…

And that’s what I mean by useful. Apologies if I seem pedantic but powerful, to me, suggests large amounts of damage like meteor shower, hundred blades or gravedigger.

Chilling Darkness. Why such a nerf?

Back to the original topic.

Controversial idea incoming:
Revert Chilling Darkness nerf, so it no longer has an ICD.
Change functionality of Well of Darkness by removing the blind (gasp!), adding a (3.0) damage modifier and adding projectile block.
Reason why?
If they did buff Chilling Darkness by removing the icd, this would just make Well of Darkness into another pure condi spam skill. Removing the blind and adding damage/projectile block would cement it as a useful power skill, that could replace Well of Corruption and add a power alternative to corrosive poison cloud.

So both power and condi necro could be buffed without infringing too much on the other.
