I do remember that NPC now that I look at those screenies. I remember shaking my head after catching a couple of the snippets of him talking to himself. (Line about being strange, it made me chuckle)
I agree, he definitely does not seem to be Soundless before he set off with them. Perhaps Soundlessness was forced upon him simply due to distance from the Pale Tree? It would be interesting to know if there is a range to her ability to influence / communicate with her offspring. Lot of potential theories…
Blade shards belong in the crafting collections, imo. They should have been put there where they became permanent.
Festival tokens, if they remain an actual permanent currency (perhaps used across multiple festivals to help reduce the sheer number of currencies), then yes, they belong in the wallet as well.
Gauntlet tickets, I’m on the fence with. You don’t buy anything with them from npcs, so it’s technically not a currency. It’s more like a raffle ticket which you redeem for a prize. So I could go either way on them. Originally, I said yes, but I’ve reevaluated since then…
Geodes belong in the wallet because they are a currency. You use them to pay for goods from the various npcs, in tandem with basic gold.
So, I think this is a bug, so I’ll put it here. I don’t see another thread, but mod please merge if there is.
The Lost Coins that we collect in Dry Top for the associated achievement seem to be bugged in that if you are in the process of collecting one and are interrupted, the coin simply disappears. It is not counted as a coin collected, and does not respawn on the map. It is simply gone, which halts your ability to finish the achievement.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about honestly. I watched Jory kick the snot out of inquest and tentacles last night. Not so much Kasmeer, but she seems more defensively speced. I honestly wasn’t paying attention to Braham or Rox though so I can’t say either way on them.
well, if you show a new zone portal as a teaser, a normal person will think you get a new (normal) zone. cause thats shown in the teaser. everyone liked it and eventually you get hyped (some more or less i guess, i read reddit and there we got pretty hyped). maybe hype is the wrong word. you get some expectations with that teaser of a zone portal and it couldnt deliver that well (only because the map is so small).
Here in lies the issue. We see a tease, we make assumptions.
We assume we are getting a new zone (which we did).
We assume it will be the same size as all the previous ones (although, from my understanding this one is about the size of Southsun).
We set expectations based on those assumptions, which have absolutely no grounds in any fact because no actual information was provided.
And then we kitten that Anet didn’t deliver, when the fact of the matter is they never told us how much we were getting. We jumped to conclusions, but somehow they are the ones in the wrong.
We do the same thing with movie teasers, but oddly, it’s never the movie maker’s fault that our assumptions were wrong. Why’s it so different for games?
and yea, i think they should have added a new achievement for the a zone completion or something. maybe they will add that in future cause that would spoil how many zones are coming?
we will see.
Maybe they have a region completion achievement, but they couldn’t put it in without giving too many spoilers?
Maybe there is more to the Dry Top map itself, thus why when you hit m there is no waypoint / poi / sp count?
I think it’s way too early to tell. All we can do is speculate.

Honestly, they wouldn’t be satisfied if they got a full 6, 8, 10 full maps either if you think about it. They go out, play 8 hours a day. In a matter of days they have consumed the content and the chant “more more more” starts all over again…
well that would be unfair, though i think some ppl would still complain, you are right. but still, i think most ppl anticipated/hoped for at least one normal-sized zone at the release of this hyped season 2.
a normal-sized map with normal vistas/pois/waypoints/events/world boss. i think its pretty bad, that the new map doesnt count towards (old or new) world completion achievement. and its pretty bad that you dont get anything for map completion (though the map is not completed yet, so that may be wrong in future).
Oh, yes, there will always be complaints. Nothing is perfect, but there is a difference between what I’m talking about and what you’re talking about. Beyond the simple, ‘meh it’s not really my thing so I didn’t enjoy it.’ I don’t like SAB for example, and I’ve stated in my reviews that I don’t care for it because it’s not my play style. Outside that though it’s very well constructed and looks fun to play. That’s totally different than like the OP’s (and others on here) “oh this is total kitten, anet doesn’t know wtf they are doing” etc etc.
I have to ask…. what freaking hype? Anet gave us a zone portal, a teaser trailer, 2 snippets of audio, 2 concept art, and a twitch that covered the journal as a whole. That’s it. We got more kitten during season 1! We have made assumptions. We speculated. But there really was no hype on anets part for this. They’ve stated that “season 2” is awesome (or something along those lines) but that’s referring to the whole season… not just the first patch. They really haven’t built it up like they did with prior releases.
I think people would have been kittened if their world completion had been invalidated by the new zone(s). Especially if they have it on multiple characters. So I can understand why it doesn’t count towards the original completion. It’s not really all that different than Canthan Cartographer being separate from Krytan Cartographer.
I don’t mind them doing the map piece by piece, to facilitate the ‘exploration’ feeling. It also forces the content locusts to slow down, and stems the flow of “more more more kittening more” somewhat.
Honestly, they wouldn’t be satisfied if they got a full 6, 8, 10 full maps either if you think about it. They go out, play 8 hours a day. In a matter of days they have consumed the content and the chant “more more more” starts all over again…
Interesting….
I got the unlock notification roughly 60 seconds after loading into the game on my ele. It pops up as a green star on the right hand side of your screen, similarly to how hearts now pop up upon completion. Clicking on it, it opened and told me the story was now unlocked on my account, after which I was able to locate it in my hero panel.
For my husband, it took about 5 minutes for it to pop up after he loaded in.
So there seems to be a little bit of variation in how long before it pops up, but we had not even touched the content before we got it. So it does “unlock” / “become available” for your account without needing to do it. What causes the variation in the time it takes to unlock probably depends on a lot of variables. I’m sure the server load right now probably has an impact…
Oh, I thought it was just me!
I had this issue last night as well. My husband and I went after a coin, he grabbed it and moved on. I started grabbing it, then interrupted myself. The coin disappeared like I got it, but I have no credit for it.
I was hoping it would eventually respawn…but it hadn’t before I went to bed. Figured I’d check tonight. I guess I’ll just throw in a support ticket instead.
They did say that LS2 would act as ‘continued story’ so I sort of assumed that like personal story, I would need to do it on any character that I wanted to access the achievements on. After unlocking those I could work on them ‘overall’ on any character.
Probably 90% of the time I’m getting nothing from the sand. Which is sort of a let down as the description makes it seem like you should get something every time, or at least a heck of lot more often than that.
The few times I have gotten something, it’s always been a single geode. Going to be a loooooong time before I get enough geodes for any of the nice things at the vendor…
Yes, the area is smaller than the original maps the game launched with, but it packs quite a bit of content into it from what I’ve seen. Hell, I sat for 15 minutes just watching that champ bird run over people last night. I laughed so hard my sides hurt!
Still, from what I have seen, and based on the shape of the map (you notice it’s not a nice square like all the others? it looks like its just the corner of a bigger chunk), I do not think this is the only one we’re getting. There is the vined off section to the north (I think it’s north), that could lead to an additional part of the map. You do access it through one of the story instances, and it looks like there is a way beyond as the Master of Peace is leaving at the end. I’m sure there are probably other likely passages out as well, but I haven’t gone over the map with a fine tooth comb as yet.
I didn’t expect to get all of the zones for the season at one time. I don’t even expect to get one with every update necessarily. We’re “exploring uncharted territory.” Slowly pushing our way out into the unknown. As such, I fully expect we’ll get the maps piece meal every couple of updates as the story dictates the need for it. Which is actually kind of cool, imo.
Killing people with grenades on a flying airship while trying to be stealthy would be rather stupid.
When we fight him on the other hand he has no need for stealth.
No, no, i was referring to the victims that survived the crash,
but were killed on Dry Top when Destiny Edge 2.0 went around investigating.
Or did i misread that part?I believe in the part where you find the bodies, they also mention those Zephyrites were killed before the crash.
Correct, Marjory points this out in the scene after talking to your character.
So, it could still have been done by Aerin prior to the ship blowing up. They could have caught him at his sabotage and he killed them to keep them quiet. You wouldn’t do that with grenades and bombs if you’re trying to be sneaky. Of course, considering the talking to himself, he really doesn’t come across as being the most mentally stable either, and could have simply done it because he saw them as ‘in his way’ or as a threat to ‘his’ plans.
So… having actually played this new area last night, I think I stand by my previous statement that while I typically just don’t like JPs, I do like the aspect movements. Did I fall and die? Oh yes, repeatedly. My husband actually finally got tired of ressing my sorry butt so we started working on the story components instead of simply exploring.
Our only complaint would be the time limit on the crystals. I understand they are broken, so they aren’t going to be infinite time now (and that’s perfectly fine), but some of us could really use just like 5 more seconds on those timers. Nothing huge, or drastic.
I haven’t made it very far with the ls2 story (didn’t have a whole lot of time last night), but I have enjoyed what I’ve done thus far. Admittedly, when we got to the part with Aerin, I fell out of my chair laughing. Hmmm, another sylvari seemingly gone mad and hearing voices in his head it seems. Mighty coincidental me thinks.
Anyway, that’s about as far as I’ve gotten. I’ve caught the snippets of conversation about the strange sylvari’s house and about npcs’ wondering if she’s ever coming back for her stuff, which automatically made me think ‘Scarlet?’, so that’s pretty neat. I can’t wait to continue with it tonight.
Sorry, OP, I’m definitely not in agreement with you.
As much as I dislike JPs, I loved the aspects. Moving around Cliffs has always been a blast for me, and I think at one point I mentioned that it would be cool to have some of these available ‘out in the world.’ And now we have it. I’m all atwitter with excitement.
I fully expect to fall on my head and die…..repeatedly, but I’ll have fun doing it!
Well that aint bad….
We have an approx size somewhere?
Slightly ahead of schedule, or at least my imagined schedule
It’s ahead of when I planned on seeing it, not gonna complain though… just means I have that much more time for my system to download before I get home
Awww someone beat me to it……
CHARGE!
(thank gods I set up so I can remote to my home computer from my phone. it’ll be waiting for me to play when i get home. YAY!)
Ugh
They always (always, always, always) specify that patches happen based on pacific time.
chuckle
Llamas in real life aren’t a very agressive creature, unlike most of the ranger pets that could probably do some damage or kill something in real life. Llamas are herbivores with nothing sharp on their body… so maybe it could work as some sort of boon-monkey support pet?
I’ve been to Peru, and I never once met a violent Llama in the Andes.
But they CAN spit at you and their spit is yucky and smelly.
Otherwise llamas are adorable.
Ah yes, I can see it now…..
“What out for the spit, it’ll eat right through your armor”
Look… another teaser!
(or maybe I just missed it previoulsy, either way, I felt like sharing)
Edit: Since someone else mentioned WP’s videos.. here’s the link for the first one (has some nice map footage)
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
But they don’t run the game on Pacific time. They run the time on GMT. That time zone is 4 hours ahead of the East Coast. It is currently after noon on the east coast. So it’s 4 pm GMT and still no sign of a download at all even though it’s July first for a chunk of the world. There’s part of the world (like Austrailia) where it’s already July 2nd and still no patch download.
Sure, the game runs on GMT…. but their office hours don’t.
It’s only 9:25am 7-1-14 for them now.
That’s the male light vigil chest piece…. well, looks close to anyway.
Cant see anything else
dont have a toon in the vigil yet and havent noticed the design before in the world, so my mistake, but it does have a paragon look I guess.
chuckle
just needs nipples
That’s the male light vigil chest piece…. well, looks close to anyway. (No pic’s w/o the shoulders)

I do like that the sandstorm will be an actual environmental effect that has an impact on what’s going on around you. That’s a bit of a change.
I guess it depends on if they run into any hang ups….
Could be as early as noon (9am pacific) but I’m thinking it’ll probably be sometime between noon and 3.
I’m stuck at work… no issues for me (other than never getting a kitten thing done haha)
And guess what just got confirmed this morning!
Can you post where this was confirmed this morning? I checked the main news page, dev tracker, tumblr and facebook and I see nothing. I’m not doubting you, I just want the link and ANet doesn’t make it easy sometimes =P
EDIT: I found it on Massively =)
Yeah Anet didn’t post it. One of our fellow forum goers found it

Article with confirmation (and spoilers, be forewarned)
http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/07/01/what-you-need-to-know-about-guild-wars-2s-second-season-living/#continued
From my understanding of what was said in the twitch stream, is that they want the basic story content to be doable by everyone. They want that part of the game to be the ‘general public’ type content. The achievements are going to be more the elite content now (which is reiterated in the massively article this morning) and will require personal skill and ‘mastery’ of your class.
Not the last chance for me. I’m looking forward to the next Story release, rather than a Feature patch, as that is exactly what they have announced is coming.
Though, the new Journal is a feature, so…there ya go! =)
I guess technically a new map would be a feature too, would it not?
And guess what just got confirmed this morning!
Oh yes, spoilers indeed!
“New crafting materials also enter the scene. Players can now harvest cacti for cooking or refine Ambrite into sheets, that can be used in crafting gear with bonuses to Toughness, Healing, and Vitality.”
Interesting

Just seems lazy to abandon hearts altogether. It made the game more immersive IMO. Hearts give you a chance to slow down and take the story line in and help common folk with their issues, something a real hero also does. Dynamic events are more frantic in nature. I stopped feeling like a hero in this game after the main storyline was concluded. I didn’t give a kitten about Scarlet and her feelings. Just a bump in the road.
I’m expecting something greater than Southsun cove. That place is a joke. People should be prepared to be disappointed by Southsun 2.0.
They actually never intended for hearts in the first place. The only reason they were added in was due to complaints of players feeling lost IIRC.
You do remember correctly, as I remember something similar. Then again, we could both be wrong, couldn’t we?
That would make 3 of us… and many others….
Lovely… they are morphing gw into spyro.
I am expecting story components. Maybe a map, maybe not. Won’t make or break me if they don’t have it in the very first patch.
Anet has said that features and story will be separate patches, so I don’t expect ‘feature’ type components (like gvg) in this patch (although the datamined map looks pretty interesting).
That’s about all I’m expecting. Then I can simply enjoy myself rather than getting kittened off or let down over things that I convinced myself ‘should’ have been there when they never actually said anything of the sort.
Is it Anet’s last chance with me? chuckle No, but I do development and have more patience than most it seems.
Anti-hype…. wtf what hype?! We got a tiny trailer, 2 snippets of conversation, a snippet of music, and two concept art. That’s hype? Oh sorry, we had the twitch stream that explained the journal. Still… not getting all this “amazing hype” people keep going on about.
As for the patch….probably 6 hours at least. It’s only 9am eastern, which is 6am pacific. Anet isn’t even awake yet. Sheesh.
Because of what they salvage into…. cloth That’s basically it.
Yes, from the sounds of things this is something they would like to do, are planning on doing. From some of the comments made during the twitch previews where they discussed the pvp changes that came with the feature patch it sounded like templates were on their radar, but required other components to be done and in place first.
They still talk to us through other outlets though. They chat with people via twitter and facebook. They are sociable when you catch them in the game. They “usually” answer some questions via their twitch streams (not a kitten ton, but a few if they have time). We get tid bits on the news feed, and they have seemingly regular interviews. They just aren’t talking to us “here.”
Actually, thanks for bringing that up. I think this is actually another part of the problem.
It’s far too easy for someone to miss out on news, or hear only part of what’s been said. They then hear other things second hand from other people, or miss a clarification, and a bad situation becomes worse. I know the boards can be pretty toxic at times, but that’s still the best place to put news and links if they want everyone to see them. There needs to be an easy central gathering place for any information they’ve put out there.
There will always be those that only hear what they want to hear. I’ve done it myself. But making it easier to get all the facts can at least help those that try to be open to news.
And I agree with this. There was another thread regarding social media elsewhere, but to reiterate my thoughts from there – Anything that is “official” should be on the gw2 website as well as on the social media feeds (tumblr, twitter, youtube, facebook, etc). This should include any interviews and such, not just the blog posts or tweets that they do. This would help increase the absorbency of information across the largest potential group of players. To help eliminate some of the ‘he said, she said’ or ‘well i didn’t see that’ types of issues.
Obviously this wouldn’t really do anything for some players’ reading comprehension (or lack of), but its a start.
Titles are simply rewards for completing a goal. Nothing more nothing less. They show that a person ‘has done’ something, or a set of somethings. It does not necessarily say they are the master of that thing, or set of things though.
The Dungeon Master title simply says “Hey. I have done all 33 dungeon paths at least once” For some, that is quite an accomplishment. Not so much for others, but everyone is different. Titles already have value and significance; though not so much so as to be game breaking in any way. In other words, if it isn’t broke, don’t try to fix it.
But you could try improving it
There isn’t really much to improve. At least not in regards to what you are talking about.
Now, if they wanted to add a new selection of titles that were dungeon specific. Perhaps even path specific as a subset within that title tree, to show that someone has a mastery of that specific path. That would be more along the lines of what you’re trying to do.
Here’s the kicker though…. someone could have it, and never display it, simply because they opt to display something else. So you’d never really know one way or the other, unless you’re suddenly making it a requirement to get into the group.
Oh, some of us have noticed.
I’ve also noticed the other side of it. The less they say, the more people latch on to what few things DO get said. Any little scraps that make it out are torn apart, analyzed, and turned every which way to see what they might mean. Conclusions are drawn and expectations are set, with no further information to correct the mistakes.
There’s two ways to deal with this: say as much as you can, or say as little as you can. Having seen a company try the first approach, and seeing ANet doing the second, I’ve got to say I like the “as much as you can” way better. I doubt ANet will change, though.
/shrug
Being torn apart and analyzed seems to be pretty standard. People were doing it even when they were talking. And we still had the same jumping to conclusions, and such.
In the beginning Anet did say a lot more though. If you look back, they did do a lot of interviews and feedback and clarification, but it didn’t help. People still didn’t listen. They still nit picked, and only heard the pieces they wanted to hear. Take a look at the huge arguments over the manifesto for example. They had youtube clips, and interviews, etc where they clarified things. Where they tried to explain what they meant by certain phrases. To this day it makes no difference what they intended, or what they clarified. People still look at the manifesto and broadly proclaim they were lied to.
Yes, the first option (say as much as you can) seems like the better option, but the devs are only human. They are only going to be able to take so much kitten, so much negativity, before it finally wears them down. Considering the amount of bile they get from their “loyal” fans, I can completely understand not talking to us here. I don’t like it, but I can understand it.

I’m not huge into pvp and wvw.
For PvE though…probably warrior. Followed by guardian.

You want to compare this to a real life example? Fine.
This like saying a recipient of the Medal of Honor needs to go back out and repeat his act of valor in order to keep it.
That an Olympic gold medalist has to give up their medal 4 years later if they don’t participate or if they don’t win.
That the team members of the winning super bowl team have to give their rings back so that the next year’s winner can have them.
In short, it’s an asinine idea.
I’m hoping it’s all level 80. Personally I’d like to see several lvl 80 zones. After all, if this is supposed to be post personal story, continued story that you can’t even access until you’re max level, then I would expect to be lvl 80 content wise.
I’m going to have to agree to disagree OP. I find JS’s music to be very good, and quite memorable.
Don’t get me wrong, the sneak peak of music we got today from MD was beautiful as well, but whether or not it will be ‘memorable’ has yet to be determined. Obviously some of it already is, but like all art not every piece is a masterpiece.
Of course, beyond that, each person’s taste differs slightly as well. So while one person may find piece ‘a’ memorable, another may not.
