Oh dear gods, can you imagine the mausoleum as a jumping puzzle? Potentially tight spaces with the current camera….I think I’d cry. Now, a mini dungeon on the other hand, I’m good with that. I’d love to see bone / rotting dragons again. Wasn’t it rumored he was guarding treasure? Some special weapon maybe?

He would make for a decent Meta event I think, considering he had his own army of undead. Unless something wiped them out in the last 250 years (and wouldn’t we have heard about that?), they could have easily spread across what was Majesty’s Rest and need to be pushed back / contained. Hell, they could turn the mausoleum into a full dungeon at that point and use the event to open it, similar to how CoE works.

Lot of options for him… (Here we are brainstorming and we don’t even know if he’ll make an appearance)

why is everyone so sure the portal is in Brisban? Maybe is in Metrica Province.

It could be in Metrica, but like many others I’m also leaning towards Brisban. Why?

1) The scene with Marjory’s sister specifically mentions Brisban
2) The final cut scene showing the ley line path runs through Brisban and through the reactor
3) The map datamined by that_shaman

It just seems like the most likely option. Although, I’d be perfectly happy to be proven wrong too.

I’ve been trying to remember to do my daily home instance node gathering, and my daily crafting (guess what I’ve forgotten the past 3 days? haha).

Beyond that, I do a variety of things – level alts, hang out in BB, do some dungeons, clear a map, pop into wvw, and even work on my pvp reward tracks. Just depends on how long I have and what I feel like doing. I still need to do the gauntlet on my other account (aka the hubby’s account), but haven’t found the motivation to do so (mainly because neither of his mesmers has made it to 80 yet).

Well story wise it will probably not fit much but we might still get to experiance the little dragon with his little friends. I mean we know there is a high chance (nearly a certainty) that we will be moving inward into the maguuma jungle. I think there is a pretty good chance we’ll start off with a zone joined to brisbane. I guess there is a 50% chance we’ll be moving north or west. If we move north the mausoleum should fall right into that zone. Provided he didnt move away in the last 250 years it could make for a great dungeon or at least mini dungeon. Probably more of a mini dungeon but it would be a crime to simply leave him out I’d say. If we’re lucky they’ll end up opening the whole area eventually perhaps opening say 1 zone a month. ehh that would be nice!

Hmmm yeah not sure how’d they’d shoehorn him into the story, or if they should. He could simply be just one of the mysteries we come across I suppose, depending on if he’s still guarding that mausoleum or not. We didn’t know much about him, lore-wise, in GW1 either.

Could make for some interesting mini / side story if they so chose.

Perhaps you are right. Either way, tailoring needs to be fixed. Even if the cost for bolts of damask were to remain the same (which I think they should, otherwise you can craft them for cheaper via tailoring and use them for other professions) the AMOUNT needed for Ascended light armor should be lowered.

Well, honestly, if they adjust the damask recipe, it would need to be across the board, not just in regards to tailoring. Which would negate the concern you have there.

They need to do something though, that’s for sure. My light armor characters feel abused.

Season 1 and the Story Journal

in Living World

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

First – Season 1 will not be available via the journal right away. It was done before the concept for the journal, and as such they need to retrofit it, which they want to do, but have not started / do not know when such will happen. There are higher priorities.

Second – We do not know, and likely won’t know until Anet retrofits it and has it set to be added. That’s probably not a decision they will make until that time, so they probably don’t even have a concrete answer. My best guess would be that those that played it will probably get it free, and those that didn’t will have to purchase it if they desire to have it.

Third – If season 1 works similarly to how they have described season 2 to work, (after they finally add it) you may not need to purchase it yourself to experience it. It was explained during the twitch stream of the journal that someone that does not have the content can tag along with someone that does, and experience the story that way. You simply wouldn’t get any progression, rewards, or achievements. But that has yet to be seen one way or the other.

Living Story Journal Issues and Concerns

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Festival of the Four Winds is a seasonal thing, as other have said. It will return from time to time and we’ll be able to participate like we have been now.

When it comes to the Journal, let’s take ToN as an example. The way I see this working is something like the tower itself would be open world, like it was previously. The component that would go into the Journal though, would be the instanced ‘mini dungeon’ if you will, from the top of the tower (where we fought the Toxic Hybrid – the first go ‘round). Which we could do alone, or with friends. Then even if the tower went away (cause we blew it up) we’d still be able to go back and experience the story that happened as part of that component.

I can see the open world content progressing over time (most being permanent, some have to be temporary because of actions taken, etc) but the story instances themselves would always be there, via the journal.

Anet went a bit overboard on the suppression rules this go around. I understand their thoughts behind it, but they still went overboard.

The two mail limit just makes me shake my head. Without direct trading (which again, I understand “why” they did it) my husband and I tend to mail things back and forth often. Beyond that, when I was cleaning out inactives from my guild, I could only do it 2 at a time (since I mail each one). Kind of frustrating at times.

The chat suppression isn’t any better. Tried doing BB over the weekend and I was coordinating the pyro team, ended up suppressed in both map and say, which made me go hmmmmm. Had to pull a couple of randoms into a party and direct them to call things out for me.

I understand that Anet doesn’t want people to be able to spam chat like they did in GW1, but they definitely reined things in way too much. They need to loosen up just a bit and find a better middle ground.

How to spend 12,99 Euros/ monthly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Yup, just sink it into gems each month. Gems don’t expire so you can just hang onto them if there isn’t anything you want to buy right away.

Personally I tend to spend gems on more bank space, new character slots, bought a few of the unlimited harvesting tools, and several of the armor skins.

Lots of other stuff on there if you want though. Can even convert straight into game gold if you so desire, but I don’t really consider it worth the exchange rate personally.

I have no issues with desiring, or having implemented, more QoL things. I was one of the people that asked for account bound dyes and wardrobe functionality (feel free to check my post history). However, even with those, if you didn’t understand how something worked or had a question, you went to look for the answers. You did some research via wiki, you read the blogs, you popped on here and asked questions, hell you asked questions in the game. Thus “a little research never killed anyone”

Ascended shouldn’t be any different, and I see people doing those exact things all the time, but there’s always a few that simply miss the minor nuances. I know when I was looking though the trinkets when they first started releasing them, I at least made note of the term ‘unique’ on them. Which made me go “ok, this is different” off to wiki I went. Yes, a mouse over tooltip that clearly says “You can ONLY EQUIP ONE OF THESE ON A CHARACTER” would probably be good (didn’t have one to begin with, thought they added it though). Still won’t solve some of the underlying issues though.

As these are not “soulbound on acquire” there are those that purchase more than one with the intent of giving it to another character. Should the game have to scan your entire account to verify whether you do or don’t have one somewhere, on someone and pop up a message if you do? Personally, I don’t like to be micromanaged. I don’t need the game to hold my hand ask me “You’re sure?” “You’re sure that you’re sure?” “You’re absolutely positive?” Had to deal with that crap in Factions. No thank you to having it here.

Mounts- Why or why not should they be added?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Mounts should give +15% speed. Basic versions of mounts you can/win in the game. The ascended versions and a broad spectrum of different races will be offered in gem store.

To compensate the gold saved by not using WPs had s to be invested consumables to keep the mount working: hay and water.

Acessories for the mount will be sold for gems: saddles, saddle pads etc. To boost the travel speed to +33% you can buy magic hay in the store.

Can you imagine how much havoc that would inflict on wvw? Especially when you start throwing in the have/have nots factor with that ‘pay to win’ hay.

No! Absolutely not.

Waypoints>Mounts
/thread X7 (since i think knives should actually have been 6th)

Anyway, mounts are not something that have been present in the GW lore. To add them now would be… odd. It would add that ‘one more thing’ to the people already kittening that the writers are screwing up and/or ignoring the existing lore of the game.

Outside that, they would provide no useful functionality. With the current design of the game, mounts simply are not needed as a means of transportation. All classes have traits or skills that offer speed boosts, though not necessarily passively.

Cosmetically speaking, they’re simply going to be a pain. Oh, I know the broom and the drill are technically mounts, but they are also extremely simple. If mounts were implemented, they might start out simple, but eventually people are going to want that rainbow trail footprint pony or that sparkly golem or some fiery hellhound. Something with particle effects, something “legendary.” We can’t see through the particle effects we already have, let’s not add more… Not to mention the associated lag.

After that it escalates to “we want more functionality” “we want to battle” etc etc. We’ve already seen people calling for these types of things in other mount proposals. Speed boosts, flying, mounted combat, etc etc.

If they give an inch, players are going to demand a mile.

Well, yeah, at least till Anet follows through with what they say. If LS is supposed to take place of expansions, Anet needs to show us that LS can provide that content.

At the very least we’ll get at 1 new zone (which may only be an outpost possibly), bunch of instanced story things, answers to some questions (which probably won’t be actual answers…), and more minis/backpieces. Oh and more Gem shop only/RNG chests.

Honestly, even if they gave us 6 zones out in Wastes, a dozen new story missions, a new JP per map, a new in game armor skin per tier, and 60 new DEs per zone, people would still kitten. It still wouldn’t be ‘good enough.’ Nothing ever is any more. Its all “me me me, more more more!”

I’m sure the Charr and Norn refugees that were chased from their lands, had their homes burned, or were captured and experimented on during Flame and Frost found it “devastating.”

The denizens of LA probably weren’t feeling peachy when bombs started dropping on their city and they were running for their lives.

Nor did the quaggan and other inhabitants of Kessex Hills find the unleashing of the Tower of Nightmares to their benefit.

But PvP also has no bearing on WvW either. Does that mean we should change THAT play mode? What if the few npcs in there dropped champion bags?

This is totally out of left field. Yes that mode has no bearing on wvw, but it also shares no maps either.

Look, all I’m saying is people accusing other people of being trolls because the latter are playing the map exactly as intended are being unreasonable. You can think of it as a pve map as much as you want, but its STILL a wvw map, whether it contributes or not. Maybe calling it a big pvp map may be more accurate.

So it gives pve awards? So what? That doesn’t change the intent of the map, and as such, anyone playing the map as intended has every right to do so, and calling them trolls for it is extremely inaccurate at the very least.

Yes, it’s still a wvw map. I was pointing out that many simply don’t see it as such because of how it’s designed.Until that changes, their views aren’t likely to change either. So just as they need to look at it from your perspective, you need to look at it from theirs as well.

Morfedel, you’re right, it’s a wvw map, or at least it was designed to be part of wvw. Just like Obsidian Sanctum and Emerald/Garnet/Sapphire Sanctums were designed as part of wvw. However most of your follow wvwers don’t see those things as part of the mode. Why? Because they have no bearing on the game play.

I think most of the wvwers I know consider it to be a ‘pve’ map, not a wvw one, because its just an overflow and playing there equates to absolutely nothing in terms of wvw help. Most really don’t even care about the supply provided for the winning color.

Now, if that were to change, and winning there meant something, or the ppt affected the overall match, then people might approach it differently. But that won’t happen. It would require a complete overhaul to the original design, and at which point it just becomes another map that needs coverage.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Agreed, assuming there’s not a catch of limited-time stuff.

As I understand it, any world events in the LS will still be limited time events. Once the story moves on, they no longer happen.

As I understand it, just about everything will be added and made permanent, or will be changing an existing thing. Think of it like Southsun and Kessex respectively.

And regarding unlocking, how I understand it is that everything in the open world is always be permanent and accessible, but the story instances need to be logged in or bought-if-missed to beaccessible.

Sounds like only gemstore items will be limited time from now on, to me.

Well, in the twitch stream they did say there would still be some ‘limited time’ things, which they cited the warning signs and whales washing up on the beach before the karka insanity as examples. Things that help build up to the next release but (logically) would go away after. They made it seem like these should be minor things though, so we’ll see.

I don’t believe Scarlet escaped. It seemed pretty final that we did kill her. The phrasing here supports that “in her final moments,” but that doesn’t mean that we know everything either. There could be points later in the story where we discover things she’s done or things she set in motion while she was still alive. Thus the ‘out of the picture for now.’

This is what I’m hoping. Flashback moments or uncovered plots is fine. But she better not have been a clone, or regenerate, or have an evil robot twin, or be resurected, or anything like that.

You do know she is a plant, right?

You can take a cutting off a plant and stick the cutting into the ground and when the new plant grows up it’s identical to the old one.

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Sorry, that was too long and complicated. Could you rephrase everything in one short sentence? Kidding!

Overall I don’t necessarily think that is a trend, there is always a need for light literature (movies/theatre etc) and always has been. “We” just might be at a stage in our life where we realize it more.

In general I believe this is an exiting time for the entertainment industry.

As for computer games, or MMORPGs, quite honestly I loved Swtor for not having to read. It was a step towards the illusion of being the character (sort of). I love to read books actually, but I never cared too much for reading in games – it brakes the pace.

Anyways, I guess we are going a bit off topic here, sorry OP. Let’s hope for nice new enemies, presented in an engaging format.

Yes, there has always been a need for lighter fare in entertainment, but it feels like that’s all people can grasp these days. Usually when things start getting complex people start whining. Like using their brains hurts them or something. Its just very annoying.

I don’t enjoy reading walls of text in games either, if I wanted to do that I’d read a book (which I do often). You’re right its sort of a drag, but I don’t think they’ve done too badly with the necessary reading in the game.

I agree with you as well…however with all the hype from the cut scene i feel like a large amount of casual players would go crazy if we didn’t get any sort of dragon fight in S2.

Well that could be handled through a champion or two. I fully expect at least one champion while we work through the story, which will turn into a new world boss.

“2) Tune the game’s instruments to be in the same key.”

This is not how instruments work. Different instruments are set in different keys intentionally.

I would be more happy if they tuned them to not work in the hands of the unskilled…..Thank ANET for the silence instruments setting.

Well…. only so much that they can do there. I mean, yes it’s a game (so we can shut the sound off), but it’s not really any different than people that pick up instruments and play them horribly in real life.

It’s not that there is resistance by “old gamers” as you put it. Its that a “daily” is intended to be once a day. What you’re asking for is basically just a repeatable quest with which you can grind easy AP. There are plenty of things to do in the game if you want AP.

They aren’t going to change dailies into a repeatable quest. As it is they put a max cap on the AP points you can accumulate from dailies because people felt “forced to grind” those tasks every day (the whole list) simply due to not being able to control their compulsions. They needed to have someone else hard cap it because they simply could not stop themselves.

I think I’d be let down if we killed Mordy in season 2 honestly as it would be potentially too predictable. (And too easy?) Personally I think it should take a bit more than that, but that’s just my thoughts on it. I’d love to see more plot development when it comes to ‘discovering’ our foe, how to beat him, and then the actual push to do so.

I agree with you. Most stories would now show a different scene, a development somewhere else and so on and those threads will come back together later.

But … we’ve seen that this might not work as well for this format? Lot’s of people were confused and frustrated that they couldn’t follow the story.

I’m sure we should make some “new” friends on the way to deal with the new threat anyways (and help them with something first). Maybe things will make more sense to a lot of people when they can read up in the “personal story” log.

Unfortunately there seems to be a growing trend, which is mildly disturbing, where if things are not linear and clearly laid out people just don’t “get it.” Not just in the game format, but in movies and books now as well. Like we’ve lost the ability process and understand such things, resulting in said confusion and frustration. Honestly, to me, having everything laid out is kind of boring. I don’t need it explained to me in great detail generally speaking.

I think part of the issue with the game format though, is simply how it is presented. Some of the information you have to find, other things are hinted at, and other things are clearly laid out but can be missed if you don’t know what to look or listen for.

LS1 had flaws in its story presentation due to several factors. The first being that there was too much ‘lets try this’ involved. There was no clear, concise method of delivery until later in the story, and even then it was a little hit or miss. You had written stories on the website, cut scenes in the game, dialogs on facebook and twitter, dialogs that you’d miss if you mapped out too quickly or didn’t talk to the npc, etc. GW2 is very much a game about being curious, about poking your nose in corners and asking questions and just exploring, not just watching the cut scene; however, not everyone plays that way and as such those people tended to miss out on chunks of information. Resulting in frustration and confusion.

That leads to flaw 2. Unlike a book or movie, in LS1 there was no way to ‘rewind’ and find what you missed. Yes, you could go check wiki or dulfy or any number of external resources, but that’s not what people desire to do. They want to be able to go back and experience it, on their own time as they feel like doing it (one of the biggest gripes of the timed temporary content). For those of us that did catch those things, that did crawl all over the new content like fleas, it wasn’t as big a deal to us because by the time the next patch came around and things moved on, we’d thoroughly consumed what was available. (Some of us even made notes and started speculating like little PIs on here).

There are other smaller flaws (like everything not being in the game), but those are the biggest two imo. Hopefully with the story journal these 2 will be addressed in a sufficient way to make the story more cohesive for people.

[Suggestion] Please add SMAA to GW2

First and foremost, GW2’s graphics were done in DX9 because of Windows XP users. More specifically, 32-bit Windows XP.

Now that Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, A-Net “could” overhaul the whole game and bring it inline with Windows 7 and 8.

Will they? I have no idea.

Considering how long it took them to change GW1 to not support older versions of Windows? Not very likely in the near future, but maybe eventually.

Siege Blueprint Wallet

I’m sort of ‘meh’ on this idea. It’s not usually a big deal for me to simply grab a few and carry it on me as needed.

My concerns with locking it into the wallet:
How would this function when you want to upgrade from regular to superior? Would there need to be some type of work done to the gui so you can withdraw them to MF them? Would it remove the ability to MF them into the better version, thus making it so sup versions must be purchased and negating the siege manual sold at the MF?

My guild shares all of our blueprints, we keep them stacked in the vault so anyone can simply grab and use them, locking them into a wallet would remove this ability

As someone else pointed out, this could potentially eliminate trading them, which for people that don’t use them, it just becomes junk that potentially piles up.

This might eliminate the ability to mail them as well, unless additional work was done to the wallet UI to allow us to withdraw them or mail them directly (like gold).

I don’t recall that wallpaper either, and I tend to download each new one (they are my backgrounds lol). It’s not one in my folder….. hmmm….

This does give me a Canthan vibe. Cliffs tends to as well, to an extent. This could either way. On one hand you have similar structures to Cliffs in the terms of the planking and such, but those buildings don’t look like the Cliffs.

People karma train eotm because it’s probably the best karma option, while still also being very lucrative and one of the best places to level an alt.

To “fix” the issue, Anet’s typical solution (sorry guys, but it is the trend) is to nerf the kitten out of it. Unfortunately this will simply make people go play something else, rather than simply promoting more varied play in that map, which I think is what you’re going for.

Ideally, to truly ‘fix’ the issue, all other parts of the game would need to be brought up to the same level of ‘rewarding’ as eotm is, as opposed to eotm being reduced (which just shuffles everyone to the next most rewarding content). This would mean that people could simply ‘play’ however they wished (theoretically) and be equally rewarded as someone doing another part of the game. Dungeons vs fractals vs DE vs whatever, it wouldn’t matter. However, there are 2 flaws here. One is simply the fact that rewards in game are imbalanced and to an extent have to be since content A is not necessarily as difficult as content B, and there should be (though isn’t necessarily) a difference in reward for harder content. The other is simple human nature – we always seek to follow the path of least resistance that gives the most reward.

Content Idea for Living Story Seasons

I like the order missions idea. You could have reconnaissance and misdirection type missions for whispers agents. Some of those recon missions could produce things for the priory to study and develop “stuff” for combating the newest dragon, which could lead to their own ‘find this ruin’ or ‘recover this relic’ type missions. And the vigil, well they are pretty straight forward hack and slash, they get the ‘defend this’ and ‘hold the line’ type missions.

Wow, my mind has totally ran away with that idea. I could keep going, but I won’t. Definitely like the suggestion though.

Cloth needs to have a gathering function, similar to ore and wood. It’s really that simple. Since most cloth sources come from either an animal or plant, it wouldn’t be too unrealistic to use the sickle as it’s gathering tool.

Edit: (Had to grab this from my other post a few months back)

Examples:

Jute – Is made from a vegetable fiber. Add some plant nodes to the world, which can be harvested with the existing scythes, which give us jute scraps when harvested.

Wool – Comes from various animals. Technically ‘wool’ is from sheep, but goats and rabbits would suffice too. This might require an additional harvesting tool (sheers), although the scythe might work, but sheep and rabbits exist in the game already. Maybe make some of them into harvest-able ‘nodes’ and let us sheer some wool scraps from them.

Cotton – Also a plant. Would work similarly to jute.

Linen – Again, also a plant. Comes from the flax plant, so again could work like jute.

Silk – Comes from insect cocoons, typically the best known comes from a moth, but fro game purposes there are any number of furflies, and such which could potentially offer ‘cocoons’ for collecting.

Gossamer – The definition of this is ‘a spider’s web’ or ‘a very light, delicate material,’ so let us harvest it from certain spider’s webs.

Interesting. While the only one that I can see being viable for gathering is cotton, it doesn’t make sense to be able to “gather” cloth. Yes, some of those cloth scraps are made from plant materials, there is still a bunch of refinement needed to make it into cloth. I like the idea that you can’t gather cloth bits, and yes it does make the cloth for crafting very exspenive, but it works. However I do think that adding full bolts as drops would be a better alternative, than making it gatherable, or even increasing the drop rate.

Well, even with cotton there is refinement involved (removing the seeds, then unmatting the material very similarly to wool). Technically speaking though, we skip these minor refinement stages when we gather both wood and ore too. You don’t just chop a tree and immediate have 3 nice logs, there’s delimbing and such involved. Or mine an ore vein and get 3 three nice chunks of ore, its really not that simple lol. I was just using the same general pattern. Of course, I wouldn’t necessarily be against having that refinement step in there either, depending on how much could be gathered and the cost to refine it.

I’m not against simply upping the drop rate or adding full bolts as drops to the game, but I find it odd that cloth and leather have no ‘production’ which accounts for their creation and availability in game. I simply dislike the inconsistency. shrug
