I agree with the many others that state that mounts are not needed in GW2.
I have nothing against mounts, but I don’t feel they fit here either. There are plenty of other games if you need mounts to enjoy your play.
ow, my poor eyes….
Different cultures… different commercials …different marketing tactics… w/e works I guess.
puts on conspiracy hat
Hmmm…. a quick replacement could be why it was late being released. They needed someone to cobble something together due to whatever the original ‘removing restrictions’ having fell through… Not uncommon from time to time…
pulls the cap off
So, since I don’t really pay attention, I have to ask… Are the various TPs separate? NA, EU, now China. Or could China’s activity potentially upset our balance – ie, flood of supply, thus lowering costs.
Pretty certain the blog for tomorrow will be going over the 1-30 changes. New tutorials and such for those characters. Perhaps they have gone so far as to implement the grouping of PS missions like OBrian was talking about for China.
It might be something more, but based on recent blogs, it also might not. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
I don’t recall a lot of hype on Anet’s part. Oh sure there was some, but not tons. The speculation on here has been fun, that’s for sure.
That said, I’m not displeased with the coming update. Sure, a few of the posts weren’t what I was expecting (or hoping for), but that’s just how it goes. All and all, it’s mostly good stuff. It doesn’t all apply to me, but it’s still good. It’ll make other people happy.
They aren’t reducing ‘loot’ per se, just the raw gold from events. Same with champ bags.
I think we’ll need to see how it goes, considering they are removing a couple of gold sinks in the process. Might balance itself out, but we don’t really know.
It wasn’t what I was expecting, to say the least.
I like the removal of armor repair costs.
The nerf to champ train raw gold made my chuckle.
The free trait reset we knew about from the first blogs, so that was sort of a let down.
I’m sort of ‘meh’ on the MF updates. Depends on how effective they are.
Not exactly what I was expecting….
Didn’t they tell us about the free trait resetting as part of one of the other blogs..?
goes to check
Yeah, free trait resetting – anywhere in the world or pvp as long as you aren’t in combat.
“Refunding traits is now free across the game: refund your traits any time you’re not in combat or in a competitive PvP match!”
“This means that any time you’re out in the world adventuring and want to investigate the possibilities of changing a trait, you can!”
Hmph…
Well, there’s the account bound wxp everyone’s been saying was never going to come, even though they’d been told it was.
Huzzah!
I’m underwhelmed by the account bound legendary and ascended gear though. I’m sure I’ll appreciate it eventually.
I’m even more interested what “A Solid Foundation” might be about. There’s a tiny, overly optimistic part of me that hopes it might be about Housing … if only
Introduction of make-up kits obviously.
No, it’s precursor crafting!
chuckle
Being able to craft Precursors would indeed be nice.
Yeah it would… if only they started working on that 18 months ago… Then we might have it by 2027.
Sheesh… and I thought I was a Negative Nancy.
We know it’s coming. It’s been stated that it’s coming. Some of crossed our fingers that we would get it with the feature patch, but it doesn’t sound like it. We’ll see though, they could still surprise us in the next, what…6 blogs?
[That was originally intended as a joke though]
I guess you missed the recent dev post…
They announced that due to the changing rewards in this feature patch that precursor crafting as they tried to implement it no longer works and they are starting over.
I.E. It will be at least another 12 months before we see it.
I did miss that. Link? Is it this one?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/gw2-precursor-recipe-scavanger-hunt-news/first#post3780700
This doesn’t say that they are scrapping it though or starting from scratch. It just says that the way it was designed doesn’t work 100% anymore. It could need major changes, it could just need minor tweaks in order to adjust it. Tends to happen pretty often in development, at least from my experience. Can be a bit frustrating. Still, this only shows that they are still working on it and that it is still coming. It just won’t be in this patch.
Honestly, if it takes them another 6-12 months, I don’t care as long as it’s done well.
For all you that wants it to be completely free:
What do you suggest ArenaNet adds to the game that will replace the most likely major stream of revenue that they are getting from Transmutation?
Or are you simply thinking that they should not replace it and somehow make the game survive with a major cut in revenue?
Not just on transmutation, I’m going to point out (again).
They are also going to experience a reduction in revenue from their gem shop armors and weapons too. People won’t need to purchase multiple copies anymore. Just one, which they can now use across their entire account as much as they like.
Everything in-game right now is done. By that logic they should never change/update anything, only adding new stuff.
I was leaning more along the lines of the work they wanted to do for their revamp is done, ready to be rolled out. Beyond minor tweaks at this point, they aren’t going to look at overhauling it again. Not until it actually sees the light of day and goes through the rigors of mass testing of our poking, prodding, and nit picking.
If it weren’t in a deployable, or near deployable state they wouldn’t have said anything about it. Sort of how they work. They keep theirs lips sealed until their plans are basically ready to fruit, because the player base tends to be a little… uh, volatile.
I’d like it to be alphabetical by char name, or by profession…
I’m even more interested what “A Solid Foundation” might be about. There’s a tiny, overly optimistic part of me that hopes it might be about Housing … if only

How anyone who asked for a wardrobe could have thought that it would be free to use infinitely any skin you bought once, or received once, is beyond my comprehension. That’s my issue with this. And they’re even giving us ample time to farm those low level transmutation stones so that we can get free charges come April 15.
Because they based their experience of a wardrobe on the PvP wardrobe, where it IS free do use skins once you’ve unlocked them. And also, because that’s actually what people were asking for. They asked for a wardrobe where you could unlock all your skins across your account and apply them any time for free. So, when they saw that the wardrobe had been announced, they automatically assumed that it was what they asked for.
Whether or not people should be disappointed is clearly a subjective thing. But I can understand why people are.
I was under the impression that while they were account bound, pvp armors, if you wanted, say 2 rubric chests pieces, you needed to get 2. You didn’t have infinite use of that skin.
This is my understanding as well. In the PVP skin locker, I can’t hold more than 1. If i want to use that skin, I have to drag it to the character’s inventory and use it, then it becomes soulbound and there isn’t one in my pvp locker anymore. At which point I need to get another one from a box, or mystic forge one from components.
The pvp skin locker is not unlimited. You can only use the skin if you have one (and it only holds a single one), and once you use it, you need to get again if you want it on someone else.
most likely i think they will destroy the pvp locker system and replace it with the one they have here. Which i think may kitten a lot of people off.
What they might do, that wouldnt kitten people off, is make it so its the same system but transmutation has no cost in sPvP. but….. who can say until they tell people what their plan is.
We knew the pvp skin locker was going away. It was something that was mentioned in one of the big talks about upcoming changes to pvp. It is part of the removal of the split between pvp and pve gear. They even told us to not stop collecting the pvp only armor, because even though the locker was going away it would still be ‘worth something’ which makes me wonder if those pvp skins will simply be converted to unlocked skins now.
most likely the case, but i must admit 34 gold for a straight pvper seems like a hefty price, i guess they dont spend on much else, perhaps they will give out charges.
lets see 30 silver per match 15 if you lose so 113 matches to change your armor once. if you win every match in team arena.
226 if you lose every match to change your gear once in team arena.pretty hefty to me. especially going from free to not
of course it could be free in pvp, or perhaps they give charges for something in there, so who knows.
It makes sense with the phase out of glory, and the switch to gold as the primary currency game-wide. It does seem a bit steep, but you’re right, they could stuff charges into win chests or such, or even incorporate them more heavily into the pvp daily completion rewards.
Such things could also encourage more people to try the pvp mode, which it seems they are trying to do. Offering a legendary as tourney reward, giving the Supply Bags from the LA battle as rewards, etc. They’ve definitely been trying to give people incentive to get into the other modes.

I kind of like this idea.
Although, I think it could easily be taken too far. Obviously they shouldn’t make things too simple for us either; however, I do agree that if it were less hassle (for some people) they might use and buy more such items. I know several people that just stick them in their bank, and then forget all about them cough likeme cough
This “feature patch”, so far, looks like a joke.
I hope they have ‘expansion-like’ content ready for us in the summer.
Not the place for this I don’t think but…

Very interesting indeed…
confuzzled
This feature exists in many games, and I know it existed in GW1.
I’m not sure why you are so up in arms over your guild leader(s) being able to see when you were last online, ie ‘logged in.’ Perhaps you aren’t cozy with your guild mates?
I know in my guild, this will be greatly appreciated, considering I know my members’ habits. If they up and disappear for an extended period of time (vs I just keep missing them online), I know somethings wrong.
Edit: I would actually like both dates as well. If someone is online regularly, but hasn’t repped my guild in over a week, I want to know. Then I can have a conversation with them as to whether or not they want to remain in my guild.

The new wardrobe appears to be an awesome step in the right direction. I love that my bank is now freed up and the skins I paid for will be saved, allowing me to put them on any character without the use of splitters. At first I was happy about this, but then I looked into it more.
I have mixed feelings about this because the wardrobe is still pay to change or grind for 20+ minutes to explore an area for a transmutation crystal/charge. I am curious as to why Anet came this far only to put a monetary price on changing the looks on our gear. I have already paid for armors, why should we continue to have to pay to change things up? Why can’t this just be unlimited?
Keep in mind that while they are keeping the cost to transmute (charges instead of stones/crystals, but same diff really), they are also reducing the overall costs to players for gemstore skins.
You don’t have to purchase multiple sets of armor to use it on mulitple alts now. In fact, it’s cheaper to pay a single transmute if you want just the top, rather than having to pay for a whole new set. The same goes for the weapons. A lot of people wanted 2 of Jory’s daggers. Now they just pay for one skin, and for the transmutes for more. 1 skin and 1 transmute is less than 2 skins. This is reducing Anet’s revenue from some of these gem shop items significantly.
I sort of think people are overracting to this, just a tad.
People who own multiple legendaries are already compensated. They retain their BiS stats. They retain the swappable ooc stat option.
So people will have the skin available to their other characters. They still lack all the desired functionality of the actual legendary. Which half the purpose for having it.
On the other hand, I am sure there are people that made legendaries for their BiS promise and stat swapping, and promptly transmuted the look to something else because they thought they were absolutely horrendous to look at.
Yay I like the last logged in for guild members. Something I’ve definitely missed.
I like the upgrades to the LFG tool as well.
Although after yesterday’s blogs, I have to admit this one feels… lacking, to me. It’s really short… That might be also due to impatiently waiting for tomorrow’s blogs too… Now those 2 should be interesting.
you will all change your tune in a few months when dyes are a few copper each legendaries r common place and everyone has every skin you worked for…..all i hear from most of u is greed greed greed
snorts in a very un-lady-like fashion
So you think. Considering the entire tune of your original post was “omg! I’m losing money! I can’t sell my dyes for anything worthwhile anymore!” I hardly see the rest of us as being the greedy ones.
With the dye drops being reducing, dye should actually go up in price. Additionally, people that hadn’t purchased the super rare dyes like the Flame and Frost set will be more inclined to do so now that it’ll be usable for their entire account. These costs are going to climb because demand will increase while supply cannot. As someone who sells dye, this should make you rather happy.
As for legendaries… oh whatever. People just credit card them anyway (not all, but many), which drastically reduces their meaning to begin with. That issue and it’s ship has already sailed. As Wooden Potatoes points out in his latest youtube, this actually gives people more incentive to obtain one now.

Based on just the very few responses to the OP, I’m thinking he might need to invest in some blast panels for protection. You know… like they use on myth busters, haha.
I’m in agreement with others here – you do not speak for me, OP. I very much like the wardrobe and the account bound dyes. Hell, account bound dyes prior to launch was one of the things I was ecstatic about, and then was bummed when they were changed to character bound. I’m right back to being ecstatic again, tyvm.
The lack of account bound dyes along with the lack of account unlocked skins where major factors in why I did not buy the limited edition dyes. Why I have not yet purchased any of the gem store skins. Now I will, which results in a tidy profit for anet that they were otherwise missing out on. I’m 100% positive that I am not the only one that held off on buying some of the gem store items due to these limitations. Now those people, like me, will have more incentive to make those purchases.
Not to mention that this will give them more incentive to design more armors, more weapons, and everything else cosmetic so we can buy them.
I’m thinking, a new set every other week? (Think of all those jobs they’re creating for artists!)
Disclaimer: this is my opinion, my speculation, and my thoughts do not necessarily represent others’.
I don’t mind gem store armor and weapon skins, but I think they need to balance it out. 1 new set in the game itself for acquisition to 1 purchasable set in the gem store. Maybe a 1:2 ratio even. There are going to be those that desire to do stuff in the game, other than farm gold to convert, to obtain unique looks. Hell, make 6 new JPs (not easy ones either), at the end of each is 1 piece (guaranteed) to a new set. Or something like that. They could really have some fun with acquisition if they wanted to.

Still voting no, personally, to open world dueling.
As others have stated, the game is not balanced around 1v1.
Additionally, PvE is not built with dueling in mind. It would likely require some significant coding changes to implement. I would much prefer if that time was spent on other things like…more maps, more personal story, more living world, more armor, more weapons, etc.
Beyond that, considering my own personal experience with the general attitudes of most duelers… shudder no thank you. I don’t want to foster those types of attitudes in GW2. I know that not all duelers are necessarily kittens, but not all rangers necessarily suck either. Same difference.
Now, if Anet opted to open an additional server, where the pve environment was adjusted to allow for open world pvp, I’d have no issue with that. I mean, true, I’d prefer if that time were spent on other things, but I understand that some people want dueling too. Then, the people that wanted dueling could simply transfer, or guest, there and those of us that didn’t want to have to deal with it wouldn’t have to. Not a perfect win-win, but I think a compromise most people could live with.
I am still quite pleased with the wardrobe feature honestly, and so is my husband. Yes, it has its potential flaws; however every system has it’s pros and cons.
Even if the new system were absolutely, totally free, someone would find an issue with it – ie: ‘I don’t want to have to soulbind, account bind, or salvage it to get the skin. I’m losing money doing that!" I actually quite like this, especially the salvage. It feels very similar to ‘discovering’ components from GW1. However, I’m quite willing to lose out on a few gold if it means I don’t have to hunt for or purchase that skin, or worse, horde it in my bank to take up space, ever again.
As it stands, this system is an improvement over the old one and, depending on availability and cost of transmute charges, potentially less of a gold sink. We need to keep in mind that Anet is a business. As such, they have opted to retain the transmutation costs for armor, thus keeping that revenue stream decently solid. However, they have also kept to the current standard of one stone/crystal (now ‘charge’) per piece, when they could have easily done one charge for a white, two for a blue, etc. Additionally, they are now reducing their revenue stream from the armors and weapons sold in the gem store. Want 2 of Jory’s daggers? You only have to buy it once now, not twice. Want Primeval on 2 heavies? You only have to buy the set once, instead of twice. For these 2 examples alone, it cuts their revenue from these in half. Now multiply that across hundreds of players and their various alts. That’s a pretty significant loss of sales, even factoring out those transactions made from gold to gem conversion (because someone had to buy those gems with cash to begin with).
Additionally, with the changes to the bank and to the hero display, you can now play with your look much easier – both the mixing and matching of armor and it’s coloration. For completionists, they can easily see what they have vs what they still ‘need’ to finish their collection. It means less time farming for a duplicate specific piece for its look. Less spent on the TP (thus more in your pocket) to get a piece you already have, but want on another character. Less destruction of armor due to transmutation (ie, the current system). As mentioned earlier in this post, less clogged bank space due to hording skins you can no longer obtain. Etc.
Are there still unanswered questions? Sure. Are some things vague? Of course. A blog can’t cover everything. Hell, no one person (even two) could possibly think of every question that could be posed. Politely compile a list of questions / concerns for the devs (which I think one of the various threads is doing) and we’ll see if they cover them in the live stream on Friday.
Considering dyes were something mentioned in the OBrian interview on reddit (I forget the link), and then ended up being part of this feature patch, I’m going to cross my fingers that server restrictions for guilds (which was also mentioned) gets taken care of. I won’t hold my breath, but I’ll cross my fingers…
Additionally ‘removing restrictions’ could apply to a lot of things:
More options for acquiring ascended gear
An adjustment to the time-gating on crafting
Removal or adjustment to the daily caps for things like dungeons
Opening up more (existing) weapon types to the classes
I had others, but they elude my tired mind at the moment. I must go find coffee…
Just another way for them to push the Gem Store. Dyes don’t drop any more. To me that means – Amazing New Dye Packs in the Gem Store! Unlock all your favorite colors, only $19.99, call now and you’ll receive this special offer, a free tennis bracelet. Don’t wait, supplies are limited.
They just removed the last drop that I got slightly, if only briefly, excited about when I saw it drop. You want loot?, your just gonna have to buy it from us.
Dyes may still ‘drop’ from node harvests, that wasn’t clarified one way or the other.
We’ll still be able to craft dye.
They didn’t mention removing the purchase of dye for laurels.
The stated it would still be tradeable and mystic forgeable
And of course still available via the gem shop, just like it is now.
I don’t agree with completely removing dye as a drop, but that’s the option they went with. However, they also didn’t lock it completely behind the gem shop either.
I really don’t understand the people who are annoyed that this will cost money.
Do you honestly think Anet would be willing to sacrifice a huge chunk of sales? Transmutation crystals are more than likely their #1 selling item, and probably their highest grossing one. It’s an item that is constantly in demand.
Which, I don’t mind….. considering they are sacrificing some of their armor sales in this venture. People won’t need to buy multiples of any of the sets anymore now.
Correct, the skin become unlocked for the account. To apply the skin appearance to an actual armor piece, it costs a transmute ‘charge’ not any different than using a stone or a crystal currently. Just now, you don’t have to go out and hunt up the skin again if you want it on someone else.
Key farming is making a character, running it up high enough to complete the personal story to level 10 because that’s the instance that awards a BLC key. Rinse and repeat.
Thank you for clarifying.
I have Celestial on both my ele and my mes at this time. When I log onto my ele, Celestial now becomes account bound and available to all of my characters. When I log onto my mes, Celestial is already known and cannot be added again to my account bound colors. To compensate, I will get a free unidentified dye. If I had Celestial on say my necro, I would get another unidentified dye, since I already have that color in my palette.
Yeah, I totally get how you’re reading this in the blog.
I also understand how people are reading that when you log on your Ele and your Mes will still have access to Celestial, but to unlock it for the entire account you will need to buy Celestial one more time, post-patch and use it. Then, when you next log on to your Ele you will get a free unid dye, and when you next log on to your Mes you will get another.
The wording allows both interpretations, and I don’t trust the video enough to confidently take it as confirmation of your position.
So I’ll wait for a confirmation from the Devs, or, more likely given their communication history, patch day to say I know for sure.
I got it from this:
If you already have the same dyes unlocked on multiple characters, when you log in on additional characters, you will receive one unidentified dye for each duplicate dye already unlocked on your account.
Seemed straight forward to me, but to each their own. Launch a question on the board, then see if they field it during the livestream on Friday, if someone doesn’t clarify on it prior.
Key farm, you’ll get crystals aplenty.
What is this key farming? Not the first time I’ve seen it mentioned… but still no idea what it entails…
I think they need to give us a solid way to earn charges through game play (ie, 2 guaranteed for clearing lvl 70+ maps or something). Rather than having to purchase more from the gemstore, specially considering nothing was mentioned about cost for those.
They will probably still have a chance to drop from the dailies, though to be honest I only ever get a Mystic Coin, some luck, and a Karma bottle so I’m still not convinced that other things actually drop from the daily meta.
lol that’s all i ever get too
Did anybody catch anything on whether back pieces are included in this as well?
Assuming they will be. The spinal blades back piece is mentioned, although that also highlights the ‘upgrades in line’ unlock as well.
I think they need to give us a solid way to earn charges through game play (ie, 2 guaranteed for clearing lvl 70+ maps or something). Rather than having to purchase more from the gemstore, specially considering nothing was mentioned about cost for those.
It doesn’t seem like it solves what I was hoping it would solved, to avoid having to carry around 3 sets of chest, leg and feet armors – and wanting to carry around more.
Well, that’s not entirely true. Yes, I would not have to do that any more if I wanted to change my look whenever I wanted to, on the fly.
However, they key phrase in all my requests was – ‘like a dye’. In that, I was happy if they made me use stones and crystals (which you have to buy) to ‘unlock’ skins. I wanted to be able to use them freely, like a dye, without charge, whenever I wanted to, after I had unlocked the skin.
Those screenshots elude to not being able to change your look on the fly without restriction once you know a skin.
So I’ll have to carry around those 3 sets still, it would seem. And be limited to how many other looks I want based on bag space.
I’m also concerned about the line regarding town clothes about “items no longer available being converted to an endless tonic”. Like the halo? Every time I want to wear my old gathering shorts, I have to click a tonic item in my inventory? How will that work?
Gotta agree with this fine gentleman. I’m happy for the system, it makes a HUGE difference, but having to spend Transmutation Stones EVERYTIME you want to change appareance? Wow, not cool.
Right, this system doesn’t solve the issue of lugging around a variety of armor sets (zerker for pve, pvt for wvw, etc). This just solves the desirability for easy outfitting, and the collecting/reusing of skins – ex: the 1-off skins from events or skins purchased from the gem store.
It would be nice if they implemented some type of closet for additional sets, but that would be a different system entirely. Then again, they never solved that issue in GW1 either, so we might just end up having a bag devoted to additional armors.
All I want to know is this: If I have Celestial unlocked on one character will it now be available on all my other characters after the patch?
Yes, it’ll be nice to get dev confirmation on this.
I can see how both sides are getting their understanding from the blog-post, and don’t trust that the video isn’t misstated.
Too much history with ArenaNet announcements for me to be confident about this until they come out and clarify.
From my post in another thread, based on how the blog reads:
I have Celestial on both my ele and my mes at this time. When I log onto my ele, Celestial now becomes account bound and available to all of my characters. When I log onto my mes, Celestial is already known and cannot be added again to my account bound colors. To compensate, I will get a free unidentified dye. If I had Celestial on say my necro, I would get another unidentified dye, since I already have that color in my palette.
Maybe I missed something obvious, so I’m going to ask a dumb question just for clarity.
Once I unlock a skin in the wardrobe, am I free to delete the actual item while still using the appearance from the wardrobe in the future? If so, that’s a lot of saved bank space! I’m assuming this is how it works, but I want to check!
Thanks!
Yes. Once the skin is unlocked…. its just like the zenith weapons or the hom skins in that it will be available forever across your account. You just have to use a transmute charge to use its appearance, which isnt really any different than having to use a stone or crystal currently.
I’d like to see them do something similar to insignia slots from gw1 – ie, just let us change on the fly. We can purchase insignia already from the tp, or we can craft it ourselves, now just let us change them out on the armor like we could in gw1. Rather than having to craft a whole new piece of armor.
Lets give them some time though. It took them years to implement that into gw1, so I don’t expect it so just happen at the drop of a hat here.
Still, very pleased with the wardrobe and dye changes. Very, very pleased.
After that, how about a better way of lugging around multiple sets of armor? We never really solved that one in gw1 either. And no, equipment bags really weren’t the answer..
I am saving every spare penny I have to unleash in the gem store come patch day, lol! I can finally buy those darling quaggan hats!
Here’s also hoping I can cash in on all the extra weapon skins I’ve been hoarding, like the aetherized daggers etc … imagine people may be wanting to buy those from the TP for a permanent unlock …
I hadn’t even thought about that. I wonder if the skins for the BLTs become unlocked as well….
Imagine only needing to fight with rng the one time to get that torment skin unlocked for account use. Or zodiac. Or whatever the valentine’s day one was… There isn’t anything saying that these are to be excluded.
Ow, my head hurts.
I see no reason for them not to be – cruel blow if they didn’t make them unlocked as well!
Since they’re unlocking legendaries … I imagine all the BL ticket skins will be unlocked too (crosses fingers and toes).
I agree, I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t be either. After all, it sounds like the gemstore armor becomes an unlocked skin, they specifically call out Scarlet’s Spaulders in the blog as an example.
Still, just takes a minute to absorb. Ya know?

I see a few problems with this.
People have spent a lot of gold and real money getting expensive dyes for multiple characters. Specifically the unique limited time dyes.
And in return…we’ll be getting regular old unidentified dyes for repeates? That seems completely fair. Heavy sarcasm intended.
They may treat the duplicate specialty dyes differently – ie you get an unidentified dye from that specialty set. That’s not directly called out. However, maybe we can pop that question out there for the devs, or see if they field it during the livestream on Friday.
I’m so happy, I can’t stop crying….
=D
I’m tired and may have jumped the gun. i’ll review it again with a more awake set of eyes and brain.
