“Reduced the health of each Assault Knight by 25%.”
Looks like the casuals won.
Oh whatever, get over yourself.
This was not done as a ‘oh we need to appease the casuals’ move. This was done so lower pop servers, off peak players, and overflows could more readily gain access to the holo fight. You think people enjoy failing repeatedly, hour after hour due to no fault of their own? Not all instances can field 150 players, its just that simple.
There are kittens likes this in every game, not just here. Sadly, they do seem to be becoming more prevalent in general, again, not just here. It is unfortunate that you need to weed through so many ‘bad apples’ to find the good ones that you enjoy playing with, but it’s worth it. Those people do exist.
In regards to your points:
1) Even if AP are hidden (which I have no issue with) people will simply find some other way to discriminate. What armor you’re wearing, what class you run, what weapon you’re wielding, what traits you picked, your pvp (or lack of) rank, etc.
2) This is actually something I’ve brought up a few times. Downscaling needs some tweaking, especially with the introduction of ascended gear, to make it feel more accurate.
3) This is the harder one to do anything about. Too many people hold the view that ‘dis is the internez yo’ and thus can do/ say anything they please. Then when people get offended by the abusive behavior, the community tells you to ‘grow some thicker skin’ like the behavior is perfectly ok, when in truth it’s not. Sadly, nothing will change until more people realize that everything is not ‘peachy keen’ and become willing to help make a change. In the mean time, all we can do it keep making slogging thru it.
My suggestions:
1) Join a social guild if you haven’t already. Usually you’ll have at least a few members that are happy to help out or run dungeons. You could browse the recruiting forum, or if you want something specific advertise yourself under the looking for guild thread.
2) Make your own lfg party, rather than joining someone else’s who might not have put all their specifications in their description. In making yours, makes sure you clearly state what you are looking for. (fun run? casual? beginners? etc) It’s a headache, but I’ve been there too
3) Try putting a thread under ‘players helping players’ to find other like minded individuals.

Here’s my 2c on the Knights….
I do believe that each Knight should be doable with ~20 people per. Perhaps not so much so as to make the 6min achievement possible, but at least doable. This could potentially allow for off hour and low pop servers to more easily field players and take them down more reliably.
Beyond that, the Knights should simply scale (individually) if more people take the buff. I do not believe that more players = melt boss. More players should = harder boss. But again, not so hard that it’s not doable in a reasonable amount of time with average geared players (some people are playing on upscaled chars for example).
Taimi can be killed maybe when she is in adulthood? Asurans have only 5-10% longer lifespan than humans.
True.
Did no one else find her non appearance in the final scenes odd?
Not at all. Based on the information provided via the stream about her, they won’t be portraying her in active battle. To have her in the final scene would imply that she actively participated in the battle, which would go against even her golem’s basic programming… to get her the hell out of dodge in exactly that type of situation. We know that the other 4 actively participated, Rox and Marjory both show up as commanders. Braham is with Rox, Kasmeer is with Marjory.
As long as she’s inside her golem during battle it’s fine with the ESRB.
Don’t forget Taimi fought alongside us during Marionette too.
Isn’t it technically her golem fighting, and not her? I mean, from my understand it’s simply programmed to protect her, which sure, in some instances would mean fighting in defense, but it can’t actively seek or initiate battle. Its programming is also supposed to remove her from situations, which I’m assuming is based on variety of variables such as scale, statistical chance of harm, blah blah. Then again… they did say it could turn itself into a bunker of sorts too, sort of the ‘hunker down and take cover’ aspect.
Meh, maybe not.
I think you owe it to your team to not hold them back. Yes reflects are awesome and so we have a mesmer (or guardian). Yes, stability and tasty boons really help, so we can have a guardian as well. But otherwise, there’s little doubt that three warriors can mow down a boss really fast.
It’s not just about “what you want to play”. It’s just bad manners to play a build that is sub optimal knowing full well that you can play something else. After all, why do we run a dungeon? For the loot. Why do we want a certain setup? To get the maximum amount of loot in the minimum amount of time.
That’s the meaning of “fun” – efficiency is fun. Build that are not efficient in a given set up are disrespectful to everyone else don’t you think?
I will argue that efficiency != fun by default. Sometimes some of the best memories are made by just enjoying yourself and screwing up repeatedly with good natured people. I can think of many a FoW, UW, DoA, etc run where we didn’t even complete it, but still had a blast (even after hours of failing terribly. really, it was so terrible it was hilarious).
Okay, now think about the megaboss fights like Tequatl and 3H Wurm. If I were to organise a group of 40 players intent on failing the fight by bringing gear that cannot possibly deal the required amount of DPS, and then go to servers where they do these events with the only goal of disrupting their attempts. (If my server can’t do it, neither can yours, kind of thing. Yes, this happens.)
This really isn’t any different than those that intentionally disrupt the champ trains. Or people that intentionally scale up an event and then leave. Or who harass someone for finishing an event that other people wanted to keep from finishing so that they could farm.
Think about the players who boot dungeon sellers from their own instance for no other reason than because they think dungeon selling is ethically wrong.
Is this any different than people booting non-80s because they don’t think you can do a dungeon unless you’re 80? How about not allowed anyone that isn’t completely zerker geared? How about booting someone because they don’t have ‘x’ build or ‘x’ AP?
These players are still playing the game within the borders of the allowed, Anet cannot ban them because it is not a breach of contract. On top of that, they are playing the game the way they want it to.
To boil this argument down to its essence: Do you think it is right to “play as you want” when this takes away the fun from other players? Do you believe it is morally okay to prioritise your fun over theirs?
“Play as you want” does have some boundaries. Generally speaking it usually entails a basic understanding of ‘you don’t have to play with me if you don’t like how I play.’
Now, in instances such as world bosses or the LA knight fights, you really don’t have any control over who joins. At the same time, no one person has the right to dictate how or if you can join in open world content either. So you kind of need to take it with a grain of salt and simply have some tolerance. The majority of the people aren’t going to be there with the intent to make it fail, the majority of the time.
Is it morally right to prioritize my fun over theirs? I don’t know, how and why is their fun more important than mine? They like to speed clear and play the stack and smack dungeon style… ok, I don’t They find a group with their preference, I find a group with mine. Issue solved. We both play how we please, we both feed our desire for fun. His is no more or less important than mine. In many instances there are compromises, but not for all. That’s where tolerance comes into play.
“Why don’t we all play warrior?”
Because I don’t necessarily feel like playing one. Quite that simple.
I have one of each class (2 of some) and play what I feel like playing, how I feel like playing it. Honestly, to hell with the meta.
Don’t let others dictate your play. Play how you want, because that’s how you enjoy playing. If you’re a ranger with a bear, a warrior with a greatsword, or a mesmer with a scepter, it doesn’t matter what others have to say as long as you are enjoying yourself.
Would you extend that argument to players who like to gank, grief, scam, cheat, bot too?
Ultimately, aren’t they too playing the game how they want it and how they’re having fun?
Do I extend it to things against the user agreement or the rules set forth in general? Not at all. Bottting, scamming, abuse, and exploiting are all against the agreed terms. Such things should be reported, and the participants dealt with accordingly. Obviously there are degrees, and each is taken on a case by case basis, but that it neither here nor there for the topic of this conversation.
Griefing… depends on what you’re looking at here. As in verbally abusing someone in chat? Nope, ban em. It’s a breach of contract. Harassing someone repeatedly? Again, beach of contract, ban ‘em. On the other hand, grabbing a group of friends and repeatedly blocking people from completing…say… the EB jumping puzzle? There isn’t anything against that. Some would consider it a kitten move, but hey, to each their own…
Ganking.. again, some people would consider this a kitten move, but is this not pretty much typical for pvp play in pretty much any game? Others would simply call it a valid tactic. I mean, is this not exactly what the WvW zergs do to smaller groups of players they come across? Perhaps not all members of the zerg, but I’ve played enough wvw to have seen first hand a zerg roll over many a 3-4 man roam team that was trying to avoid them. The same can be seen in GW1 team arenas, in GW1 HoH, in the current pvp hot joins – organized teams will focus a single player and spike them down. Is that not exactly what ganking is – ie, the practice of a group to gang up on one or more opposing foes in such a manner as to negate any means of defending themself. WvW also illustates the typical higher level destroys lower level player type of ganking as well. Both are considered valid game play by the given rules.
Now, given the very specific example of higher level ganking lower level… intentionally hounding them. Ie, avoiding all other fights, hunting them across the map, etc etc. Then it could be considered bordering on harassment, which strays into the breach of contract and potential ban zone. It would be something a dev would have to determine whether is was harassment or not.
Edit: In short, if their ‘fun’ is considered acceptable by those that makes the rules (the devs) and is not a breach of the terms of agreement, then to each their own. Live and let live. I may not necessarily like it or agree, but I don’t have to play with them either.

1) The achievement to stomp her before her shield goes up, as others have pointed out
2) The sheer enjoyment of stomping her for being annoying…

I do agree that the aetherblade cc’s are a bit insane. So much daze, immob, and kd. I can survive the first two, but if a I get more than one thug on me… sigh I may as well just lie there and let them pound me to death, cause I aint getting back on my feet. It doesn’t matter if I carry 3 utilities to counter that crap, they just chain the kds and by the time I’m getting off the ground, it’s recharged.

Anvil Rock was only getting 1, maybe 2 of the Knights down during any given event over the weekend. I found if I wanted to get to the hologram fight, I needed to guest, which is disconcerting. Sadly, a good chunk of the people on AR just aren’t interested in pve in general, which tends to make large scale events like this a tad troublesome.

You have to dodge all his pull/throw attacks for the achievement. If you get bounced even once, you may as well throw in the hat.
That said…I saw the admiral spawn 2-3 times on Tuesday and hadn’t seen her/him again until today…. Only saw one spawn today. I’ve been trying to keep an eye on which bosses are open as that’s one of the last cople achievements I don’t have… on either account. Been trying to get it, but s/he rarely seems to spawn.
So to encourage players to split up, they’re only giving you loot if the Specific knight you are on dies? That’s going to do the opposite! There’s no way I would waste my time trying to down a knight with less people when there’s a much greater risk that I’ll get nothing. The loot should be given to anybody that did a fair amount of damage to ANY knight…
I tend to agree. I am more inclined to jump on a well manned knight than trying to take down one with less people. Better likeliness of actually getting something for my effort. Of course, I don’t agree with the massive reduction of rewards either. Perhaps zerging all 3 and getting 18 bags had not been their original intent, fine, but completely chopping it to 6 bags period is a bit drastic. If you help take down 2 or even all 3, you should get at least a little something for the effort put forth there. As it stands, once you have your knight down there really isn’t any encouragement to help on the others… unless you want to fight the holo, which it seems no one gives a kitten about this morning…(at least in the overflows Ive been in)
With the most recent update, you’ll get a single chest (pops up like a world boss bonus chest on the side of your screen) after the event is over – ie all 3 knights complete either thru being killed or their timer runs out. They don’t all have to be killed, but I’ve found you will not get the loot if the one you opt to beat on doesn’t die, but the others do.
NOTE: You currently only get loot if the knight your on dies. If others die & yours is still up by the time event fails – you get nothing.
I’ve noted this myself. I’m not sure if this is a bug or intended. The patch notes make it seem like you should get a reward if any of the knights go down, not specifically the one you are beating on. However, that could be an error in their verbiage and its actually working as intended. Don’t really know.

The first time… yes, I didn’t realize there was a chest, although I spam shift+f (my loot command) after almost all fights, so I may have gotten my shinies.
The second time, I saw it and got it before heading in to stomp Scarlet (hubby’s account)
Haven’t made it back to the hologram battle since….
Hard capping is not the way to do it either. 50 people is still a zerg. It does nothing to stop 11111 spamming. It does nothing to improve the fight in and of itself. All it does is push people back out into the same ol’ stuff they were doing before. Leaving the new content emptier. That’s all that was achieved here. Pushing the ‘zerg blobs’ back out into QD, FS, and Cal. Where people continue to be bored, kitten that there is nothing ‘new’ in the line of content, and then simply opt to stop playing. Good job.

they didn’t want people to get loot from multiple Knights because they didn’t intend for people to play that way!.
They intended/expected people to split. So yes, I think its pretty understandable the change they made, no one was meant to get THAT much loot.
They intended people to split during the last living story too. And they did nothing.
So, is the matter just about the loot? Some people farming champ boxes while the others do the event are fine, but getting anyone who contributed to get those isn’t?
Then, i repeat, all those “spread out” banter is just a convenient excuse for nerfing the loot. Nothing else.
It also tests whether or not they can get away with ‘limiting’ the number of people per champ/boss. It doesn’t leave me with a good feeling….
Congratulations…. you won. They nerfed the loot that wasn’t working correctly to begin with. So now, even more people are going to simple not do the event. Why? Because its ‘not rewarding enough.’ The same song and dance we have heard since launch. (Re: Vet and Champ overhauls, Dungeon loot overhauls, world boss overhauls, etc etc etc etc)
So now, there are going to be even fewer people trying to do these, further hampering success and killing the enjoyment of many. Instead, people will simply go back to their champ hamster wheels or dungeon grinds, letting this content, like so much other ‘not rewarding enough’, rot.
I agree that this:
“To encourage players to split up, the boon from the associated Attunement Pool will now be required in order to damage each Assault Knight, and only 50 players can have the attunement for each color simultaneously.”
is absolutely the wrong way to go about fixing the issue. I wouldn’t even call it an ok work around. This leads to issues in and of itself. Not only that, but it sets a precedent for hard limiting other bosses in the game in order to ‘encourage players to split up.’ I find this concerning.
I also envy the Molten Flamethrowers. Those things are lethal!!
Extremely…
…and all the cries of ‘burning burning’ made me need to turn off my sound…
Yo, your hair’s on fire!
Considering the blade shards are now a permanent drop, and Miyani has them as an item to sell… I’d think they should be around for a while.
I still purchased all 3 of mine with the belongings though. Saving 6 gold was worth it to me.
The next problem with the PS is the absence of level gates like we had with Zaithan. I can’t imagine Arenanet will introduce another 30-50 character levels to slow down the consumption of the PS. I see the danger you play through the PS within several hours or the devs introduce some kind of artificial time barriers. The LW would provide a much more plausible time frame.
Factions, Nightfall, and EotN were designed not only as stand alone games (ie having their own starter zones), but where the ‘meat’ of the game was intended for already max level characters. I can see them doing something similar here, with the additional PS content. They just have to set up some type of quest or event progression between the various ‘mission’ installments.
In truth, after the initial launch of any game, the only real way to slow a player down is to enforce some type of gate to the content. Which is something many of us absolutely don’t want.
Edit: Well eotn wasnt, it was ‘actually’ an expansion, but same general principle.

This made me chuckle. I had to actually go look… and then I found all the others (Scarlet, Jory, etc) so I had to follow them all. It was worth the 5 minutes of amusement that I got.

Are you guys impatient or what? You really want a patch that tells the whole story and makes the next few years of GW2 irrelevant?
It’s like asking a patch for Season 2 to reveal all the spoilers.
Have patience, geez.
Wait for the epilogue, then complain.
So much that ^

7.5… maybe 8. The past several chapters have been better, but I still think it has some work that could be done to make it better yet in the coming seasons.
It did start out slow, and there weren’t enough lasting effects in the beginning. I’m aware that this has been a learning period for Anet, as they hadn’t really done anything like this previously. New technologies, new techniques. A lot of trial and error for what worked, what people liked etc. This is all normal. Like I said, as the season progressed it started to get better, the story got a bit more coherent, they started trying to move the back story information in, etc. So, we’re getting there.
I’d still like to see LS on a grander scale… and yet more story in it, but overall I’m not dissatisfied. i look forward to what ‘comes next.’
Clearly those people getting high number of boxes from the Knights are getting the loot that those who didn’t get a drop should of had .. Bug!
The knights drop 5 boxes a piece, as stated in the patch notes (Legendary Assault Knights will drop 5 Deluxe Gear Boxes and a chance at an Assault Knight Power Core). Additionally if you can down all 3 in 6 minutes or less, you get additional shinies (several masterwork items, a luck bonus, 1 Obsidian Shard, and 5 Blade Shards). So no, not a bug (unless people are getting like a dozen from each)
@OP
Too much loot? No, not at all. Those things are annoying as heck…. and so are a lot of the people kittening in map chat. I feel its adequate compensation for having to put up with it.

Musta been a patch that hit after I logged for the night. Time to go download again…
The funny thing is that I’ve heard this line (completely broke after patch) after each of the last like… 3 patches, but it still seems to works for at least some. Kind of amusing…or maybe I’m just tired.

OP, I found some of the questions you posed to be answered. However, like any tv series, there are far more questions than answers. Generally speaking, the first ‘season’ never gives you all the answers, but do tend to set up lots and lots of questions. It leaves them room for things to do in future seasons. A lot of shows tend to make their season finales into 2 part cliff hangers (part 1 the season finale, part two the first episode of the next season) to make you ‘eager’ to find out what happens. I find the LS does much the same thing – opens up a lot of questions, gives you a few answers to the initial season, throws a cliffhanger at you, and then leaves the rest floating in a ‘to be continued’ fashion.
Will we find all of the answers out eventually? Maybe, maybe not. Sometimes even at the very end of a long running series (Stargate for example) they don’t or can’t necessary close out all the open questions. The best we can do is compile the knowledge we have and use our imaginations…

Ran all 3 knghts grouped with my husband last night (both ele’s). Both of us did get loot on all 3 knights. Definitely thinking it’s a hit or miss thing.
Last night…
I was getting loot off them last night as well (15 champ boxes and 2 cores off the 3 knights in one hour). Tonight I got nothing from 3 hours of kills.

It’s a relationship between 2 people. Should it matter whatever the sexes of the 2 are? Claiming to not be homophobic when making a homophobic point does not absolve the OP from being homophobic.
Race used to matter to people when it comes to relationships. Do you think it’s acceptable to question the race of 2 people in a relationship today?
I think this is completely hilarious, you sound like the old president, with his line ‘’Either you are with us or against us’’. The OP simply expressed his dislikes about the UNEQUALITY of the situation, he points out that the two stated couples are in the spotlight while traditional couples are under the radar.
But what is even more hilarious is the amount of hypocrites (I’m not claiming that you are, but I know there are plenty.) that will gladly support these homosexual couples for the sole reason that they are both female only. However if a male only couple would be introduced… these hypocrites would FLIP THEIR kitten in rage at Anet.
I demand a cute little old gay male couple that razzes each other about home decor.
Are we channeling an episode of two and a half men here?
I have never watched that show… is it about two cute old gay men? Mustknowwillwatchifso
Lol… no. Just a couple of humorous episodes involving Charlie’s fiance’s father finally getting together with the love of his life… an old navy buddy. It was cute, and semi-disturbing.
i do believe the answer to that was yes…
Can anybody explain to me why some people have 2 exact same classes and why both at lvl 80? What the heck is the point of having two classes that are the same…?
To me… different feel. As well as different builds… one for pve, one for wvw for example.
Additionally I did 8 humans to learn which I liked best. Then planned for duplicates in the other 4 races (1 per) to experience their stories.
4 – Ele, Ranger, Mes, Thief
I have 2 @ 65 waiting for the last push to 80 (Personal story rush can get these last 15 levels in an hour or two depending on how much of the necessary maps you opened previously)
My other 4 are all between level 30 and 50. I have 2 more planned, but have not bought character slots for them yet.
I believe WvW and some world bosses can drop Ascended armor. Someone back me up here.
wvw can, rarely, with the rank up (maybe only the winning chests) chests. I’ve gotten an armor one so far.
Yes, world bosses and wvw lords can drop both ascended weapon and armor chests.
I got an Adelbern’s Royal Signet Ring from a rank up bag in wvw, which I thought was nifty. Havent played wvw since on that char haha

Braham is a huge male norn.
Well, “huge” relatively speaking. He’s probably like 7’0, 300 pounds, he’s not much bigger than Logan.
Lol I was thinking in comparison to Majory. ‘huge’ ‘small’ etc are always sort of relative to whatever they are being compared to/against.
lol i read dulfy, and i still couldnt get it in one try. apparently i lag just a tad much…

Oh come on! So what if they are both female. It was a touching moment! Something to help you connect with the characters in the sense that they have depth and emotion. Instead we get “omg yuck cooties!” type responses.
“I don’t like to see any romance in the main plot” I hope you don’t watch television outside of very young children’s cartoons then. Or read anything except very simple children’s books. Or play any game that has any even remote story. Even simple hack and slash console games have romance in their character plots, more often than not.
Play the new Lara Croft, there’s a lot of story without any romance at all. That should fit the bill.

I didn’t do a whole lot last night but I didn’t get loot 3 out of 4 times, which is extremely odd for me. I generally don’t have an issue (even solo) doing more than enough damage to get my ‘kill credit.’ Considering the sheer number of people that did not get loot from the Knights (grouped and ungrouped alike), I believe that there may be a bug in their calculations. Hopefully they will double check.

Marjory was also closer than Braham was. Generally speaking those closer to a blast tend to take more damage.
Then you have to take their race and general size into account as well. Majory is small, human, and female. Braham is a huge male norn. Those factors are also going to influence how much damage one can sustain. Don’t get me wrong, I am by no means calling Marjory ‘delicate’ but her smaller stature, and less dense frame (both muscular and skeletal) are going to suffer more in an impact than Braham’s would.
That’s fair.
I’m just wondering why Scarlet’s blast was so … I don’t know, wimpy, that it only reached 2 of the folks. And why it didn’t affect my poor toon who was right up there
I’ll just chalk it up to she was hurt and couldn’t muster more strength. After all, she is technically ‘downed’ in that scene. She would have limited strength and resources available to her.

I am having this issue as well. None of the legendaries gave me loot last night, which was very much a bummer.
Perhaps it will be better this evening.
Its rude to not respect peoples time. Their content should stand on its own without hype. I believe there are plenty of kids (even some adults who are new to video games) out there who have enjoyed this content, because they have never seen or expirenced anything like this. But for those of us who have been around games for a long time this is old hat, and it would have been nice to know that ahead of time. As opposed to telling us that one of the living world patches would bring the things I listed above in my orginal post.
You point out that it is rude not to respect other’s time. Yet you show no respect for their time and effort.

Good to know that we might get something new. Too bad we had to kill scarlet, she kinda grew on me
No pun intended?
I liked her to…. kind of the same way I liked Rurik… with eager anticipation of offering up the killing stroke at the very end.
I knew it!
Ahahahahahaha I knew it!
Yes, I’m totally stoked and I haven’t even been into the game yet. Can’t wait. Work day is over in about 90 minutes, and then into the game I go!
