Poll: How much have you spent on GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I honestly haven’t a clue how much I’ve spent between my account and my husband’s account. Obviously there’s a quick $120 for 2 base accounts. I’ve bought several things from the gem store (10 character slots, 6 or 7 bank slots, a couple of bag slots, several sets of infinite tools, etc), the problem is I never remember which I paid cash for and which I used gold for. shrug Never opted to keep track considering I’m not a discontent player.

Before the nerf people were getting ~350,000 karma a month just from doing the daily and monthly. They hammered that so that people weren’t getting more karma than they ever needed just for showing up.

The rest was cleaning up around the edges, you just actually have to play the game to have tons of karma now.

I can agree with the removal of karma from failed events. That makes sense.
I can agree with the reduction of karma from completing the daily and monthly.
I can agree with removing karma containers from loot bags.

However, I think events need to reward just a tad bit more than they do to balance it out just a bit.

No, karma doesn’t need to flow as lucratively as it did before, but neither did it need to be nerfed into the ground either. Happy mediums can and do exist.

In some instances, yes the OP is correct. The spawn rates don’t seem to be standardized by any means. In some areas they spawn a bit slower, in others they spawn so quickly that it feels like you’re making no head way. I’m not talking about things labeled as an event either. Just ‘normal’ non-event spawns.

I am not advocating making the game easier. I am simply calling out that they may need to check their spawning algorithms to verify they are working as intended.

I do agree, OP, that if you have lots of characters or desire multiple sets, ascended is a severe pain in the kitten as it currently stands.

Hopefully they will give us additional ways of obtaining it.

I am also hoping that they take our suggestions and perhaps implement something like insignia slots from GW1. Where we can just craft, salvage, or buy the insignia and swap it out on the armor. crosses fingers Here’s to hoping.

-snip-

Why was Karma nerfed?

In short, because loud mouthed people complained:

1) It was too abundant

2) It was useless/pointless/worthless (Just look at Zudet’s post for example – “isn’t meaningful” No offense Zu, you just happened to give an example I could use)

Tada….karma nerf.

Dunno….

Maybe they couldn’t come up with a ‘plausible’ extra for it to drop.

For the sickle? Pristine Toxic Spores. Hell it would even be thematically consistent to have a golem harvesting it so there’s no danger of being affected by the toxicity.

Thematic consistency is a bit weak in this game though. There are a lot of changes that could be made to every profession for the sake of thematic consistency that would also benefit the balance of the class, and those things will never happen.

See, that’s not ‘plausible’ to me. How would you get a toxic spore from a healthy plant? I mean, sure it’s a game, but that logically doesn’t fit. Imo anyway. I’m sure others will differ.

To me blade shards would be more plausible. Ie, as the wear and tear on the blades builds from use, they break. The golem fixes the broken blades so the tool remains usable (obviously) but the shard still ‘drops’ for the player’s consumption.

I look at the sprocket pick similarly. It’s a self-repairing device. It’s not the node that’s giving you the sprockets, its the pick shedding them from getting damaged. Which is why you get sprockets of a consistent material. Otherwise I would expect to get different sprocket types for different nodes, much as you get different types of gems (shard vs orb) from different nodes.

Yes I know, I’m a little… weird

6. Maybe, but only if it were a pvp arena. Something like hero battles I suppose. Although, something similar to polymock might be ok too. Would love to see polymock come back.

7. Always game for more minis. Earned through a variety of options. Not locked to gemstore or TP only. Rarers ones = more difficult to obtain, but not so difficult that only the people that play 8+ hours a day can get them. I’m good with people having rare things, but skill > time please.

8. Oh hell no. Lets not make the gap between ‘the rich’ and ‘everyone else’ any bigger than it is thanks.

2) Yes please. I miss my guild hall.

3) No. Absolutely not.

4) Maybe. I can’t really see WvWers asking for this. I mean, they don’t really do the events that are there now, unless it’s happening while they are doing their normal thing. People rarely ever escort the dolyaks for example. The defend events….not when it’s more profitable to let the enemy take it and then recap it…

5) Again no. Just….no.

The biggest downside to a world boss token system would be that it’s one more currency. A lot of people don’t want more currencies, in fact a lot of people are calling for further reductions of currency types (goodbye glory, we knew you well).

Personally, I wouldn’t mind, I think.

I mean, on one hand, it does detract from the excitement of getting that really good drop. On the other hand, it gives you a solid goal to work towards with a clearly defined ‘end.’

But then you get into the whole, would this make people feel like its just ‘one more thing’ on their daily to do list? Shouldn’t they be doing the event because they desire to, not because it’s a chore? Would it make some of the items too common with such an easy, clearly defined mean of acquisition, thus detracting from their rarity and desirability?

Lot of pros and cons to such an implementation, many more than I’ll go into.

An ettin grabbign hte end of the cape and twirling you throug hthe air only to smash you on the ground or after jumping off a JP to get the cape snagged by a vicious and menacing pebble just waiting to kill you or harpies grabbing the cape and flying off with you to do gods know what kinds of horrible horrible things to your soft underbelly! as such, capes are no good. <nod>

Thank you, Edna*

*If you’ve not seen The Incredibles, that won’t make sense

Do you remember Thunderhead? Tall, storm powers? Nice man, good with kids. November 15th of ’58! All was well, another day saved, when… his cape snagged on a missile fin!
Stratogale! April 23rd, ’57! Cape caught in a jet turbine!
Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff! Splashdown, sucked into a vortex!

Hehe…. yup, I got the reference.

If the AI could be made smart enough to use such things as capes (and even long hair) as weapons against us, I could see them as a determent. However, since such will never actually be implemented in the game (woo can you just see the steam coming out of some people’s ears in their anger?), I say bring on the capes! Is GW2 Fun Yet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I bought GW2 on release, grinded to 80, and tried out the endgame. And while the levelling was fun, the game featured no endgame PvE, exotic gear that you have to grind for hours for tiny stat boosts, and a completely broken dungeon system. The PvP itself was so unbalanced as to not be any fun, along with no gear to be earned in structured PvP whatsoever. Have they added ANYTHING worth hitting level 80 in the year and a half?

So…. based on the bolded…. you played the game exactly like you’d play WoW. I’m sorry hun, but GW2 is not WoW, where the ‘fun stuff’ [supposedly] ’doesn’t start’ until you reach max level.

GW2 was marketed as a game where the ‘entire game is endgame.’ And for the most part, that’s pretty much true. There is nothing you can’t do at 80, conversely being 80 also isn’t anything special. It simply allows you to access everything. You aren’t locked out of experiences because you aren’t an 80, and you aren’t locked out of going back and re-experiencing something from a lower level just because you are. The game is as much about the journey, as it is about finally hitting the level cap.

For those people that ‘grind to 80’ and play the game like it’s another WoW, expecting some gear grind dungeon/raid running endgame; they are going to be highly disappointed. This is not the same type of animal. It’s not intended to be played that way.

From the sounds of your post, GW2 isn’t going to be your type of game, then or now. Nothing wrong with that, but based on what it was marketed as and what its supposed to be, it’s probably not what you’re looking for.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

How important is Lore for you

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Story and lore is why I play. Can’t play a single player rpg with my husband, thus why we’ve gravitated to MMOs. So we can partake of the story and adventure together.

If I wanted just a strait up hack and slash without a lot of story or adventure, I’d play mortal combat, tekken, or soul caliber. Sure those have some story, but they aren’t rpgs. It’s not the same thing.

Personally, I think we could use some more story in the pve setting. There really isn’t reason why an mmo can’t have as much story as a single player rpg. It just has to be adapted to a larger scale with co-op capability.

LanfearShadowflame.3189

HoH was located on the battle isles if I recall correctly. In GW2 we have lost access to that region. According to the Movement of the World this area sank due to the rise of Orr. I think we can still see this area on the overall world map, but those flood waters would need to recede in order for that area to be ‘usable’ again.

We have also lost the access to the gods, and their realms. We’d have to see the return of the human gods in order for them to write their realms back into existence. At least logically from the lore stand point.

this was just pure chaos.

It’s an invasion. War. If it feels like chaos in LA than the devs did their jobs.

/Agree

War/Invasions are not organized sterile events. The planning of it might be, but the actual reality of it…nope. Loud, chaotic, sometimes terrifying….oh yeah.

The problem is most of the events end so quickly you can’t get there in time to help. All of the escort/rescue events need to ‘wait’ until someone shows up to escort them. Getting around the dark torn up LA takes to long when the events only seem to last a minute or two. I got tired of the ‘save the children’ events which are very long so I tried through one whole invasion to do rescues and spent the entire time running around getting nothing done.

Try coming in from a different door?

I can understand making some of the events a little longer; however, I don’t think they should ‘wait’ until someone is there. Fleeing npcs trying to make it out whether someone is there to help them or not adds to the immersion, at least to me. It makes sense that people are going to try to get the heck out of dodge before they end up killed.

Well if there was a chance the marines where going to show up and escort you would you wait a minute before running for it? Maybe the event could spawn a bit earlier so people have a chance to respond to it rather than waiting around for it, doing nothing?

Depends on the chances of survival during that waiting period. If they aren’t any better than making a break for it, yeah I’d make a break for it, but that’s just me. There is also the factor of possibly making it to the rescue sooner. Lot of variables depending on the situation. Then again….considering some of the issues with friendly fire….those marines might be just as likely to shoot me as save me. =/

However, some of the events feature animals – dolyaks, moas. Their base instinct is going to simply be ‘run.’ Even the most intelligent of animals fall back to primal instinct when in a panic and terrified. Making those types of events ‘wait’ for rescue doesn’t fit, where rescuing the children it might fit. But even in that case, I can still see the adults trying to save as many as possible of their own accord, as it would simply be an instinctual response, especially with the toxicity of the miasma to take into consideration.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I could definitely live with a little dialogue before the events, like what happens with the Lighthouse.

“Alright kids, get together, we’re going to get you out of here.”
“Yes sir!”

“Meep, Mott, Mokk, everyone here?”
“Squak!” “Squak!” … “Squak!”

“Keep up you stupid Dolyaks, we’re getting out of here. I’m not leaving any of my wares for looters. If I’m lucky we’ll run over Kiel’s corpse on the way out.”

Then there would be warning that something is going on rather than mobs just appearing and making a break for it.

Nothing has been definitively stated that Vigil Keep will be the new hub though. It was stated that ‘essential’ services would be moved there temporarily. Following the basic logic of a surprise attack and ensuing siege, obviously not everything can be migrated. It makes sense that an actual hub may not be re-established in a permanent location until after things settle down.

So why are they selling permanent passes to this airship? I do agree that Vigil Keep (in its current state) being the hub won’t be permanent, but whatever area is made into a permanent hub (rebuilt LA, overhauled VK, etc) will have this airship present, and have its layout/services setup to encourage use of passes.

The only other option is that they are selling a permanent pass to an airship that is only a temporary addition, which would infuriate anyone that buys those passes.

Because they can. Keep in mind that they sold permanent Terrace passes that people willingly bought long before LA went boom. People thought the terrace was temporary too, but it remained and LA was still here. The airship, I suspect, will be much the same. Convenience, nothing more. It does not mean that a new hub will not be built. Although, it doesn’t say that it will either. Anet could go either way. They may opt not to create a new centralized hub in order to [bluntly] encourage players to spread out and utilize other cities. We really don’t know. We can speculate, but that’s about it.

Personally, I don’t mind not having a centralized hub. It doesn’t really effect me, although I know it does bother others. shrug

Following the basic logic of a surprise attack and ensuing siege, obviously not everything can be migrated. It makes sense that an actual hub may not be re-established in a permanent location until after things settle down. Whether that ends up being reclaiming and rebuilding lions arch, building the current location into a hub, or looking at setting up a permanent base somewhere else entirely. How things are currently set up does help with immersion as it does follow a logical “omg we got hit by an attack we weren’t prepared for” event.

Please note that I am leaving the air ship completely out of the equation here, since it is a purchased convenience item.

Zodiac Armors Feeback

My overall thoughts on these armors: they aren’t bad. I was a little off put by all the blue, but then I noticed the swirling white mist and stars when I set my graphics to high. Then the ‘celestial’ type feel was there and it made me like the sets a bit more. Still, on lower settings though, it’s just sort of a blue blob and not so enjoyable.

For all those up in arms that these armors are too revealing, or are portraying females as sex objects, I might agree if anything were actually showing. However, nothing actually is. The blue is a second skin, with the decorative armor over lay. There is no actual character skin shown. This is absolutely no different than what a lot of women wear for yoga or ballet or any number of other activities. Skin tight leotards, body suits, etc. Do you take issue with those as well?

Now, if this armor was a tube top and a pair of pajama pants with something like ‘toy’ on the kitten , then yeah, I could take issue with it. But it’s not.

Ha. I, on the other hand, love the mystic toilet and its’ awesome ability to spit precursors at me like beads at mardi gras to a big set of DDDs hanging out for all the world to gaze upon for the cost of plastic pellets on a string.

Instead of AFK’ing and doing my thing in LA I’ll just use up a spot on my BL since it’s mostly empty most of the time anyway.

I like to check their twitch channel (twitch.tv/guildwars2) for info as well. They have semi-regular streams, though I don’t always have time while working to catch them. Thankfully, I can watch them after the fact.

They did have a ready up stream a few weeks? ago that discussed the upcoming balance changes, also changes to runes and sigils, etc etc. It was stated that they were looking at those things as being part of the features patch after the finale of the LS.

Yes, op the fan boy thing might have been a bit overboard. Do remember that though you may not like an update, or agree with a course of action taken, there are many others that do. Just difference in opinions is all.

Well to be fair they never actually claimed that EVERYTHING would move to Vigil Keep.
They said essential things, which would mean things unique to Lion’s Arch, and all those things are fully available at the Vigil Keep for no charge whatsoever.

And lets be honest: How many of you actually used Lion’s Arch for crafting in the first place? It was after all one of the worst areas for it.

Good point, they did say ‘essential’ services. Crafting and someone else mentioned retraiting, aren’t really ‘essential’ since they can be done in so many places. The gate hub and the dungeon merchants on the other hand, were an LA only thing. I didn’t think about that fact.

And me, me I did. I used LA to craft… and DR….and BC….and Ebonhawk…and even Claypool. I think I may even have done some in Rata Sum once. chuckle

Wow, so many people up in arms. You know, it could have just been an oversight. Do keep in mind the numerous things the did need to move. It was bound to happen that something got overlooked. Maybe they will be nice a hot patch them in., maybe not. It’s not the end of the world either way.

Honestly, they could have simply destroyed the city and not moved anything out. Sure, we could save the NPCs, but they had to leave all their wares behind, for example. In a surprise attack and evacuation, that is actually more realistic, but no. They moved the forge, and the gates, and the dungeon merchants will all their wares, etc etc.

Sheesh, kittening over the simplest of things.

Too bad? Someone is going to shafted in the end, whether they release on time or not.

I bet if they released on EU time, you wouldn’t care at all if NA get shafted.

Same feeling with NA and EU.

You ask for advance warning – they gave enough advance warning. Something came up and they had to make a fix.

But I assume you would rather have them release the patch and have everything screwed up the moment you log in?

Calm your pants. The usual release time (2hr ago) is not so bad for both regions. Again, in case you failed to read my post, I don’t mind that they have to delay the patch – just do expectation management well in advance (well = 1 day at worst). You might have missed that. Experience in business software development (yuck, soul draining stuff) indicates that you usually know when stuff is going south, it may very well be different in game development, but I would venture to say that a day’s worth of warning isn’t asking much. Imagine, for one second, as much transparency as “GW2_Official_Twitter_Account: Guys we might slip on this patch.” Boom! Expectations set; anyone who complains is definitely an idiot.

I am not asking for fudged patches (funny how you counter a point I made, and then counter a point I explicitly avoided, hmmm….), I am asking for transparency. Big difference. Massive. Transparency = trust. Complaints about slipped patches (where the slip was indicated before-hand) from players = idiot players.

Yes you’re asking a lot. Anet can’t turn back time and say on Monday that the patch is delayed.

The fact that Anet’s official twitter account stated that the patch was going to come in an hour, and then had to delete it shortly after shows that something bad came up.

The fact that we still had no patch 5 hours later shows that something bad & big actually came up.

So criticising Anet for not being transparent when it was impossible to be transparent is foolish. I think you are the one that needs to calm your pants because you assume Anet is perfectly capable of time travel and predicting the future.

Thus why the phrase ‘kitten happens’ exists. For instances just like this.

Vol, you seem crankier than normal of late. Everything ok?

That’s my rant style when I come across unreasonable & unrealistic people, who seem to grow larger and larger each day on these forums.

I’m all for complaining about Anet, but if you have a bad reason to do so with little ground to stand on, I’ll jump on you and call you out on it.

You think that joke was bad?

“How many Asuras does it take to screw in a power core?”
“None, they force a human to do it for them!”

“How are a Paragon and a drunkard alike?”
“Both like to shout at strangers and run around without any pants.”

“How do you know if a Charr likes you?”
“He asks for seconds! Ha ha ha ha!”

“What do you get when you cross a Norn and an Asura?”
“A Norn with something stuck to his boots!”

The OPs point was that even though the other jokes are bad, they are aimed at a whole race. The joke he takes personal issue with is npc specific, which is why he takes issue with it.

Although, doesn’t Thorn have other npc specific jokes? I can’t find his dialogs on the wiki atm.

I really don’t think the Mad King cares at all if he offends anyone trying to be PC..one reason why I like him. He does what he wants

I do agree that Thorn has never ever been PC, nor do I want him to be.

OP, I am sorry this joke bothers you. While I’m glad you connect with the characters of the game/books, it’s still just that…fantasy. Things such as this are intended to make you react. I’d say it’s doing it job, and in no way should be removed.

This joke is pretty much on par with any ‘how do you outrun/survive a bear/mountain lion/insert wild animal here’ joke. To anyone that has been attacked by one of those wild animals and survived, I’m sure they don’t necessarily find it funny (although some may). Doesn’t stop people from telling them though.

If you join a party that is tailored for speed runs and you refuse to take part in that, then you deserve a kick for wasting everyone’s time and being selfish.

The issue here is that not all such parties are advertised as such. While it is true that there is nothing wrong with desiring to run with like minded individuals, such things should be clearly labeled. I don’t know how many times I have joined a story run where they desired 80s only, but didn’t say so in the listing. Where I joined an all zerker sc, that wasn’t labeled as such. All their descriptions said were ‘Story’ or ‘P2’ or whatever. It is not my fault they they did not specify, and they have no right to be kittens about it. Honestly, a simple ‘sorry, we’re actually looking to speed clear, blah blah’ goes soooo much further than ‘omfg uninstall you kitten . you arent zerk, ur such a kittening noob.’ A person is going to react much more positively to the former. The people that spout off the latter…well, I have some very vivd ‘should be’ options that would probably terrify a lot of people.

To the OP:
You are right, you should never ever have to apologize for not being here at launch. No one should treat you poorly because you haven’t been here every minute of every day, and unfortunately there are a lot intolerant rotten apples in this game. I don’t necessarily think any more so than any other game, but in certain instances (like dungeons) they do seem more prevalent.

On Ascended Gear

If you desire a “level playing field” you should not be playing in WvW. By it’s very design it is not a level playing field. There are too many variables that affect the nature of that beast….

A “level playing field” is spvp.

Now, if WvW were capped to a few things:

-Only 80s allowed
-No masteries
-Exact same number of players per server per match up
-Locked to pvp armor and considered a pvp mode
-No superior siege

then it would be a level playing field.

Essentially it’d be GW1 AB on a larger scale, with 3 teams rather than 2.

Not entirely true. We wanted difficult to get gear, but we wanted it to be cosmetic only. Difficulty is part of the appeal for hunting super rare skins. However, because it’s cosmetic is totally optional.

Agreed. I should have been clearer. We didn’t need difficult to get stats. Unfortunately, even in this game, I tend to only see armor as stats and not cosmetics because, frankly…there aren’t a lot of cosmetics =/

Also, not entirely true, but again goes back to the cosmetic thing. Its an optional thing, that a person chooses to do because they want that particular skin, and that by no means should be removed or downplayed. .

My bad again. Once again, referring to stats.

Ascended sort of kicks this in the teeth, since many will feel it is a necessity for any number of reasons.

Indeedilydoo

Yeah, we really didn’t need higher stats. Bigger numbers <> more intelligent game sadly, but too many just don’t ‘get it.’

Still, I look at pretty much everything (sans ascended) from a cosmetic perspective, since the majority of it is relatively simple to come by. I think originally the dungeon sets were the closest thing to ‘cosmetic’ as we got, but considering armor has default stats its hard to approach it that way. Yeah yeah, someone’s going to point out transmog capabilities, but sometimes that really feels like a waste. Honestly, they should have done armor similar to GW1, where you could apply your insignia of choice, and swap at will. We had a lot more flexibility with the GW1 system.
