‘Hey guys we don’t like underwater combat because it isn’t fun so please don’t try and make it better.’
Makes sense….
Why are people saying Mesmer’s can stack this might instantly? How are they coming in to talk about a class when they have no idea how it works?
You have to throw up 3 illusions which takes time to do, the illusions then have to charge at the enemy where they can be dodged, blocked or kited and at any point during this the preparation or actual shatter attempt they can be killed. Which part of this is throwing up huge stacks of might instantly? Not to mention you are probably using your big damaging cooldowns to get the stack in the first place.
The way people are talking we are running around with 25 stacks instantly doing 3 illusions + IP shatters in peoples faces.
When I take my Mesmer into PvE I rarely get the chance to do 3 illusion shatters because PvE mobs actually kill our illusions, it is saying a lot when the PvE AI is smarter then the average PvP player.
If a Mesmer is using Scepter/OH Sword then he isn’t running a shatter build.
Or he is running a very bad one.
Yeah, like the almighty useful Cry of frustration ( aka: 12 free stacks of might on a 24 secs CD with full Illusions investment).
Well I suppose if you want to argue something that is wrong you might as well use false information.
All I am getting from these desperate arguments is that if Mesmer wants to go full glass cannon 20/20/0/0/30 builds then it shouldn’t be able to do damage. All other classes glass cannon builds can do damage and get 20+ might stacks and that is alright but for some reason Mesmers aren’t allowed to.
The PvP players are going to be the death of this game, just like they were to GW1s PvP.
Any other classes might stacking build doesn’t require a different trait or playstyle. You choose the one that gives it to you and then you go use it.
I don’t know how many might-stacking builds exist in this game, but for the elementalist, you need specific weapon sets, 2-3 specific traits and 3 utility of a specific type to stack might to high numbers.
One of those traits is in the major grandmaster tier, and it’s about 2/3s as effective at might-stacking than Shattered Strength. SS gives you as much as 9 stacks per shatter, so overtime you easily get up to 18+ with two or three shatters. The ele’s grandmaster trait gives you 1 stack per skill while in fire attunement, which translates to about 4-6 stacks when and only when you’re in one of the four attunements, 8-12 when you come back to that attunement.
So in addition to giving less, you must restrict your playstyle if you want to benefit from it. And it’s a decent 30 points trait.
That is one class. The others?
You are also presuming that Mesmers can just get this massive stack from nowhere and then shatter you to death. They either have to use their F3 or F4 which are both on long cooldowns and are better served for their non might purposes, or use F1 and F2 which are their damage dealing shatters, one is power the other is condition and when they are on cooldown what are you going to use those might stacks for?
On top of this you also have to tailor the rest of your build to get enough clones out for the shatters and then hope they don’t get sneezed on while running to the target. So other classes might stacking being restrictive isn’t a valid complaint because so is Mesmer’s.
Although judging from the sPvP players posts about Rangers and Mesmers it seems the idea of attacking or avoiding pets is too complicated for them to understand.

@Blundby, I think mesmers are so unused to get buffs they just cant handle it. Like ppl win the lottery and cry tears while they have hard handle the situation.
/OsicatI concur – I was pondering about this earlier and realised it opens whole new playstyles. My Guardian doesn’t need to wear glass cannon gear because I get so many boons to help with damage.
Now mesmer have good access to boons, I can mix more condition damage into my shatter build since it gets buffed by might, that in turn led me to realise that if I went all-out boon duration buffs on my runes and took some ranks in chaos I can become a buff-bot for my team, and still do decent damage all round with shatters, staff and sword.
Such a small change opened up so many possibilities, there’s now multiple ways to spec shatter
BINGO.
combine with signet of inspiration, shatter up as high a stack of might as you can, use signet, pop time warp, MELT WORLD BOSS
But this is a huge problem; such easy access to might stacking makes investing anything more than a basic amount in domination totally obsolete. A simple 10 stack of might is 350 power, more than you can get by maxing out Domination, and easy to maintain with fast rotation of shatters. Changes like this remove any glass attribute from glass cannons; leaving you with people who do stupid damage with ridiculous survivability. They’re moving mesmers in the same direction eles are at right now, which is not good for the game. Any good ele will tell you that the class is OP right now because of this situation; we do good damage with hella survivability to back it up, making a glass cannon completely useless in a basic comparison, especially since Fire Magic is a useless traitline and Air Magic is only good when it’s complementing the healing rotation granted by Water/Arcana. The worst part is that before this, Domination and Dueling were not bad traitlines to begin with; most of the problems mesmers faced had to do with phantasm AI and other bugs, along with some problems with trait synergy. Activating a single skill you were going to use anyway to instantly gain 9 stacks of might is unhealthy for balanced game progression imo.
Then why are people only complaining about this once Mesmer can do it and not when any of the other classes can?
Well as it is a Charr not only did he probably survive but he probably got 5 girlfriends/boyfriends/Golems (whatever he likes) and the situation was all the human’s fault anyway.
He then probably invented a electric powered Ferrari, so good for him.
On another Note, the amount of Might a Shatter-Mesmer can stack is just too high
Besides: Few other classes/specs get Might-Stacks as easy as the Shatter-Mesmer now and certainly not ones that are as often played and as strong kittenter-Mesmer in sPvP.
If you honestly think that then quite frankly you just do not know anything about the game. Go explore what the other classes can do and their builds, it will make you a better player as well.
On another Note, the amount of Might a Shatter-Mesmer can stack is just too high and requires you no different traits or playstyle or anything – you just get them by doing what a shatter-mesmer does.
Those skills don’t create any tension while coming up with a build, nor while you are playing it, it’s just a needless buff – you might as well give Shatter-Mesmers double endurance reg and a buttload more Power/Condition-DMG, because the might-stacks and the vigor lasts forever anyways.
What does that even mean?
Any other classes might stacking build doesn’t require a different trait or playstyle. You choose the one that gives it to you and then you go use it.
Well it didn’t make me rage as much as the Halloween one but on the other hand it didn’t feel as special when I did it. Was fun though, will probably do it a few other times.
I think the most it has ever taken me to do a daily is 1 hour.
Mesmers OP? Warriors UP? Necros Fine? What?
This is incredibly funny. The whining killed Phantasms long ago and now Mesmers can actually stack might like every other class they are OP again?
This thread lost all credibility when somebody complained that they couldn’t auto attack the pet to death.
I’d rather take 5 Engineers through fractals then any other group composition + Ranger.
Seems people are a bit upset that grenades were finally toned down.
Everybody knows Warriors have this right?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forceful_Greatsword
I can easily keep 20+ stacks of might up using that.
Pets dying in WvW is definitely a control issue. I’m not even full rare geared let alone exotics and my pets almost never die in WvW. I highly recommend ranged pets if you have a problem with your melee pets running into AOEs.
Your Gear doesn’t effect your Pets stats at all.
Berserker is still broken but there were some nice improvements.
Yeah. It appears to be broken in a slightly different way – which is why I thought it was fixed at first
Whats the problem? I haven’t noticed anything so far.
- Ranger
- The ranger class combines its own innate abilities with the skills of their pets. We’ve balanced the class around the idea that you always have a pet with you to aid in any fight. The fact that the ranger can have multiple pets allows them to combine their pets in ways that most impact the current fight. We want the Ranger to have some of the evasion enjoyed by the Thief, as well as the mobility other classes employ. The class is able to deal physical or condition damage, and it can do this in melee or at range.
… and yet still no fix for the fact that ranger pets die instantly in dungeons, can’t attack from keep walls in WvW, and take 60s to respawn -AFTER- you’ve switched them out, regardless of how long they’ve been dead. Excellent.
I’m finding it funnier that they said the Warrior should do less damage then Ranger at range.
Honestly nothing really stands out to me (except projectile speed) but its better then the last lot and its all adding up.
I’ll probably be nice and take my Ranger out to see Wintersday now.
I’m really liking the sounds of them. Especially the buff to Shattered Strength as I wasn’t expecting it at all because I already thought it was pretty good.
I’m a bit weary of the phantasm damage changes though as I don’t exactly know what they mean but I am presuming they are good changes based on what has been said by Jon.
I agree, we are an under powered. But not by so much. The ranger jokes are just there from tradition I expect them to stay for a while unless some op build comes out. I am looking forward to the patch, the pet fix seems most promising, but don’t get your hopes up. I doubt it will be a change-all patch. I enjoy my ranger now I feel like I have gotten better at it and know the class, we aren’t on the level of thieves but we aren’t on the bottom either. Engineer definitely needs some love as well, and Necro too. The mindset has become that we are at the bottom of the ladder, but I think its not terribly bad and we are not alone. Honestly though, I love the jokes lol. If people want to hate, show them your stuff.
Whoever Engineers have as their PR person is doing a wonderful job. Bottom of the barrel? That is pretty funny. I’d gladly swap my Ranger over to an Engineer, Grenades and Bombs are so OP it is ridiculous and yet they are still going to get sigils and weapon stats added to those kits.
with all the available lore i don’t understand why these events all need to be slightly altered versions of christian holidays. this is a world wide game. can’t we have holidays celebrating each race/god/battle instead of having halloween and christmas and (probably) easter?
i get enough christmas bombardment during the holidays. i don’t need anymore of it in a game that should have its own holidays and avoid real ones. i usually really love ingame events, but i probably won’t log in for this.
Haloween isn’t a christian holiday.
No new build till tomorrow?
Wintersday is ruined for me.
• For PvE leveling rangers complaining that these changes won’t help you, that’s because the ranger is already very balanced for PvE, if not overpowered.
Oh god, my sides! Lord have mercy upon them! I cannot stop laughing!
Lol, I cried a bit laughing, I thought he was telling the truth about everything till that, haha. xD
Guys….. Ranger is VERY strong in PvE, what are you talking about? Do you actually play other professions? My main is a ranger, but I have a thief, warrior, ele, and guardian, and I assure you leveling a ranger is far, far, easier. Why do you think bots are all rangers? Easiest profession to keep alive. It’s not about the damage output, it’s that pets hold aggro marvelously well against trash mobs and are tough to kill in basic PvE (unlike in dungeons). The pet + range mechanic works extremely well, any other profession is getting constantly aggro’d and attacked by anything around them while a ranger can turn on LB or SB autoattack and go take a nap.
Dungeons are another matter entirely, other professions are more effective depending on the specific dungeon. Essentially, the Ranger is the undisputed king of solo PvE but is less effective in group play than other classes.
Most of the problems that Rangers have in dungeons also apply to Orr and I’d say Southsun Cove as well.
Bots used Rangers because of Search and Rescue but even then I started seeing a lot more Warriors and Guardian bots (and even one Mesmer which confused me) before the mass bot bans started happening.
On the side of making it more like GW1 Wintersday.
you can talk to an Avatar of both Dwayna and Grenth in the game already and it was the Avatars who you dealt with in GW1 Wintersday
You could spend 10 seconds trying to kill a two or thee enemies with aoe at risk of a healer negating it, or you could spend ten seconds killing two or three enemies one at a time with enough damage to largely negate healers in most situations. Personally, I preferred not to risk it.
Besides, pets didn’t get DP, and had an energy version of Final Thrust with a 5 second recharge to boot. And could be unblockable for 26 seconds (with a 30 second recharge shout)
Enemy Groups in GW usually came in a lot larger groups then 2 or 3 and MoP could easily deal with any size group.
In fact the Splinter Weapon/Hundred Blades + MoP combo generally did more damage the more enemies there were.
(edited by Levetty.1279)
Maybe there’s precedent for change in other games, but I’ve stuck around for ~7 years with this series… game-changers (profession-based) came, but few and not for the better. Some become OP while others were left to rot. To the last day I kept a line dropped on the official wiki, years after the last expansion and after many free content updates, the ranger update never came.
There were two big reasons for this. First, the difference in GW was that the ranger was actually good in PvP, though terribly antiquated in PvE. Secondly, what truly masked PvE skill-balancing were a secondary profession and PvE-only skills (if you’re not familiar, imagine if the Orders taught skills, and any class could slot them). The bar itself was so open it allowed for all kinds of nutty builds; now the profession needs to pull its full weight, it cannot outsource for its lack of viability. Improving one profession does not create opportunities for others.
Actually, rangers did get an update that made them horribly broken.
http://www.guildwars.com/gameplay/developer_updates/august_2009_skill_balances.php
Pets became stupidly broken in that update; one skill got +53 damage, a 21 second deep wound (reducing total health and recieved healnig by 20%) with a five second recharge and 5 energy cost. Then there was Scavenger’s Strike, a 5 energy attack that gave you up to 16 energy. You effectively had unlimited energy.
Those two skills alone made the pet (and by extension, the ranger) horrifically overpowered. You could often bruteforce through healers on hard mode.Of course, since everyone and their dog (and going off the ragethreads in this forum, still do) want to be “teh snipar” and/or was too busy doing splinter+barrage to see lots of pretty numbers, it went unnoticed.
Well that could output a lot of single target damage, single target damage didn’t fit into the Meta. The melee classes, which the pet build basically was, were bringing massive aoe through some combining of MoP/Splinter weapon with hundred blades, daggers or Sycthes. The pet couldn’t keep up with that kind of aoe damage.
That won’t really make a difference when they release Exotics.
I have no clue what you are talking about.
Neither do I apparently. :p
I meant to write That won’t really make a difference when they release ascended armour pieces. I must have drifted off at the end.
That won’t really make a difference when they release Exotics.
As well as the other problems listed I personally find it hollow. A lot of people seem to think it is mandatory for an MMO but none have yet to give a reason why adding + 1 equipment to fight the + 1 monsters is considered content. Why couldn’t we just go straight to fighting the new monsters? How is the new equipment worth it when the monsters are still just as hard to fight in comparison?
Too many people saying that Scepter is fine now and it more or less has found its niche in Mesmer builds so I don’t really expect many changes if any to it even with the problems it still has.
Just more reason to give us a power based main Hand Pistol.
I dislike the Charr areas the most, as a person who joined the series with prophecies I felt it was insulting and disgusting, doesn’t help that Charrs are mary sues.
Just go back to the Trahearne office instance. They added the merchant there a few patches ago.
The VGA is the videogame award show that I take the least seriously, not that I take any seriously to begin with.
- Increase damage of Ranger Spear Auto Attack.
- Make Ranger Spear 2 a whirl finisher and leave the reflect effect on them longer.
- Increase vitality of Jellyfish Pet.
- Ink Jet now leaves a smoke field.
- Quick Draw now causes Harpoon gun skills to recharge 20% Faster
- Ranger traps are now usable underwater. If Trappers Expertise are taken then the traps are thrown at the current target.
- New Crafting profession added only usable by Rangers, can craft underwater buildings and walls.
- Quaggans have announced they think all non Ranger classes are foo
Try to take our underwater kingdom now other classes. Just try it.
Keystone Signet Build
Wastrel’s Demise
Bugs in the zone that Ebonhawke is in so I can’t whats left of Ascalon or in other words enjoy the small bit of Guild Wars that actually found its way into this game.
Really the best thing to do would be to roll servers back to before the patch went live. Yes, deleting about a months worth of progress for everybody would be better then anything that came out of that update, it was the biggest mess I have ever seen.
As that isn’t going to happen then they should just do what the thread says and give the rest of the people the reward and move on and hopefully learn in the future that giving out anywhere up to 100s of gold of rewards while simultaneously denying that content to a large portion of your playerbase isn’t a good idea.
Well I wasn’t happy about ascended Items but this Karka ordeal finally broke the camels back.
I could just about live with vertical progression if it was done right, I wasn’t hopeful that Anet could do it but i was willing to give them a chance. But now it turns out that if you live in certain parts of the world you will just get free 20 slot boxes and exotics thrown at you. There is a word for that but I am probably not allowed to say it. The whole thing has left me disgusted with the company and I have been playing Guild Wars since 2006.
The whole event is a mess.
First you have to babysit some low level npcs who give up the first time a Risen looks at them. Not only are they weak so you have to have lots of people babysitting them but because of event scaling if you have too many people it becomes impossible to stop them from running off too. And tot top it all off you have to hope the event doesn’t bug out.
Second the fight against the priest is unbalanced. He could be on the other side of the temple with a zerg around him then all of a sudden he teleports to you killing you and healing him self. Then those aoes he puts on the floor that can kill you in seconds but most of the time don’t bother to render and the waypoint doesn’t become uncontested so to run back you have to run through the risen army that you fought through to get there in the first place with all their CC.
If that wasn’t enough to put you off in the first place then the only reason to unlock the temple was to get that material for legendaries but that can be got from fractals now.
for all i know this could be PHOTOSHOPED.
anyway, to all kids crying “i didnt get my toys”.
im quite certain 99% of people that deserved it got it.for the other 1%, it scks, i agree.
but its ONLY A CHEST.please rethink your priorities
This is a forum dedicated to GW2 so its not as though we can talk about Egypt, natural disasters or famine. So what should we talk about? The ascended/fractals mess? Anet doesn’t care about that either.
They should have just sent every account the box with an apology for the whole horrible event.
This is the biggest mess I have ever seen.
Anybody else notice that when Americans couldn’t get access to the Witch hat which was handed out several times over a day they added a NPC in game to just hand them out but when Oceanic people couldn’t wake up at 2 in the morning to do a one time event which gave out a 20 slot box, exotics and precursors (basically anywhere up to 100s of gold) its tough luck.
hmmmmmmmm
What about Oceanic people who pulled an all-nighter and then got disconnected and could not log back in for 2 hours due to login server issues?
Anet still doesn’t care about you.
On the second day of Christmas GW2 gave to me, A karka chest… oh wait no it didn’t only certain people are valued enough to get them.
Anybody else notice that when Americans couldn’t get access to the Witch hat which was handed out several times over a day they added a NPC in game to just hand them out but when Oceanic people couldn’t wake up at 2 in the morning to do a one time event which gave out a 20 slot box, exotics and precursors (basically anywhere up to 100s of gold) its tough luck.
hmmmmmmmm
Good job on their part
No it isn’t.
The exploiters get richer and a large portion of the player base get denied access to content and rewards.
And people wonder why the TP is in the state it is in.
You completely ignored what I said. Anet does not consider this an exploit.
And you completely ignored what I said.
This is why the market is in the state it is in.
Good job on their part
No it isn’t.
The exploiters get richer and a large portion of the player base get denied access to content and rewards.
And people wonder why the TP is in the state it is in.
So people in my guild who overflow hopped to get the chest more than once are getting the extra chest. I, who only did the event once, don’t get another chest. How is that fair?
If you’re going to give the chest out to people who already got it, give it to all of us.
It should be clear by now that Areananet only cares about the people who obsessively play this game and grind out 20 hours a day. The people who play it for fun or try to get in the spirits of things and not abuse overflows aren’t important to them.
I should have figured this out after the portable mystic forge mess, but now fractals and this have made it perfectly clear.
Whats unfair is that after the community told them they didn’t want one time events during Halloween, they made another that gives out free exotics/precursors/20 slot inventory boxes.
Sucks to have a family, job or live in the wrong timezone I guess.
I got nothing.
Apparently I am not a valued enough customer to be able to partake in every activity of the product I bought.
