No one likes to be spammed from range especially when they are having a good duel on point.
People are misinterpreting or disregarding the concept that people want gradual progression rewards. A title like Champion Brawler is fine as a long-term goal, but there’s a serious lack of short-term PvP goals between achieving rank 80—which many people have done since the glory patch—and that title. Why?
If players are expected to play the game for the enjoyment of the mechanics alone, then I wonder why there are any medals, chests, or rewards in the game as a whole.
I think PvP-exclusive dyes, minis, gizmos, consumables, or armor/weapon skins would be a nice way to reward players for dedicating their time and energy to that particular game mode.

These are my problems with mesmer and the lack of counter play to it:
1, They can spike out of stealth all the time = no counter play
2, They apply a ton of conditions, do massive damage and strip boons
3, They do too much spam damage from long ranged with the greatsword
4, Blurred frenzy cd is too short meaning they have too much invulnerability
5, They can port around like clowns and get you down when you cant hit the fools
6, They get so many procs like fire and air sigil
7, Portal is a game chaning utility
8, Moa morph is not fun in any way whatsoever
9, Cancel cast on greatsword is a cheat and an exploit and those exploting it should be banned
10, The damage it too high and too repeatable. They shouldn’t be able to spike for so much so often. I would increase the cd of shatter by 50%Then we have some balance. Mesmer is game warping and OP as anything else. Just because thieves kill them, like they kill everything, does not make such high damage with ZERO COUNTERPLAY ok.
Please make the change and improve the game.
1) our stealths are like 3 or 5 seconds, you telling me you cannot count to 3 and counter play by counter stealth/blocks/positioning? its not like we have thief lik access to 10+ sec stealths
2)TONS of conditions? Shatter mesmr(the most common) applies vun and confusion, thats 2, maybe 3
3)Its not GS dmg, its fire/air procs, which are not just a mesmer issue
4)………. you know what i cant even be bothered. This stinks of L2P. Mesmers are only strong under skilled players. And if you play at any decent level you would know they are NOT favourable due to the huge amount of coordination, team support needed and skill to counter play all the med guards/thieves around.

You must have mistaken it for “keyboard turning” which is basically an insult in PVP terms.
You say that, but its hilarious how many supposed ‘good pvpers’ keyboard turn in this game. Not even that, MOST necros/rangers especially in 1v1 servers keyboard turn/walk backwards/ strafe.
Coming from a WoW background where this kind of stuff is seriously frowned upon in pvp, i questioned why most self proclaimed good players do this, and the response was, the game is designed for this type of play. Especially rangers. 90% of them walk backwards on their way to winning.
End of the day, dont be a keyboard turner. Learn to use your mouse for turning (its a million times quicker and easier to have map awareness) and save your keyboard buttons for actually useful key-binds. This carries across ANY game in my opinion.
It really annoys me when you get idiots saying ‘omg why do you care, rank means nothing’ crap.
So why even post that? It’s hypocritical. If you don’t think people should be caring, don’t post said opinion. It’s pointless and a pretty brain-dead thing to do.

No matter what people say, most of us play an MMO because its social, competitive (lol), and for the self fulfilment and bragging rights. No matter what game it is (CS, LoL, FiFa, DOTA, WoW, SC), people play online pvp to compete and have bragging rights over their fellow gamers. If you didnt care, you’d probably be playing a solo RPG like Witcher etc. Thats why nearly every MMO has titles, ranks, achievements, gear to aspire towards. To play an MMO and get good, a certain time investment is needed. Now most don’t mind investing that time because you get rewarded for it through said titles/ranks etc to show a) you are a veteran of the game and/or b) you have skill in a certain class/area/mode of the game.
If people were not competitive or concerned about their online egos, there would be no ESL or esports.
Which brings me on to the question(s);
Why has ANET made ranks USELESS?
After the April patch where now every man and his dog can get rank 80, there is nothing to show that you have been a real pvp grinder/competitor.
Ranks, while were not everything in pvp, they were the carrot on the stick for true pvpers (new ranks,finishers, GEAR SKINS, every 10 ranks) and people like me really enjoyed the grind, because i got better at the game/my class at the same time.
You took away the differentiation ANET.
This is before i get onto champion titles too. They are also useless. SO many bad class champions out there. 1-2 years ago, a champion was seen as an expert on their class, now its meaningless. I have champ paragon with 151 ranked games won, and champion illusionist with over 1200 ranked games won…..yet i’m rewarded with the same quality title?

Yes but does it treat it like a normal disconnect as in if you log back within a time period its fine, eg. switching classes before the timer runs out pre-game??
Or will you get you a disconnect regardless if you ever log back in and play the matchup therefore acting as a loss, yet you came back and won.

From a pvp perspctive…….IMO you should ALWAYS take portal.
In tpvp premade pvp its vital and one of the only reasons you would bring a mesmer. Good co-ordinated portal play will help massively with out rotating enemy teams…(pushing far with thief and portal playing it) effectively meaning you can play 3 bases really fast.
In unranked/ hotjoin….i would still take it….learn it…you will be unkillable with it. It might not help your team as you are playing with randoms..but use it selfishly…resetting a 1v1….pulling out of an unfair fight (2v1/3v1 etc) and free roam capping/decapping by yourself. I use it and when it is on CD…i pretty much cannot die.
There really is not much option tbh. If you want to be a valued mesmer…learn how to portal play
PS. its almost ALWAYS better to pull out of a fight via portal and reset/ loose the base…than die and wait for respawn…..a dead mesmer is no help to anyone
I’v always wondered why they did this….i assume its to do with their server loading infrastructure but its hellannoying.
If you dc, why do you have to load into HOTM, to THEN get back into the pvp server?

I spent more time copy and pasting instructions and timers for “temple of the silent storm” and asking one of 2 thieves in party to change characters than organizing my own skills before the game.
In games that I’ve won 75% of the time it was with another bunker class. I spend more time managing Random teams then most, with the constant “don’t tell me how to play” in return. which is fine i anticipated that but in the case where we have 4 roamers 2 of which on average are without tittles they don’t coordinate attacks or plays sides , and end up feeding deaths to the other team in single file.
Now I’d like to request that there be some sort of restriction to bar at the very least entry ranked players from ranked, They can still play unranked for their dailes or reward track. High Ranking plays should not have to constantly carry teams or new players as frequently we currently do. its not fair and not fun.
The other Option is to go back to the solo que/ team que as before and have separate ladder that way. It was the best method and everyone was happy. because if I have to carry someone, than my opponent better be able to as well.

This ‘off season’ has left competitive pvp in a state of staleness. Even when it was the first test season the ladder was a joke.
NO carrot on a stick for r80s. The only thing worth playing for is Leader board ranking but even that is a joke now which rewards quantity not quality.

I often ask myself why do i play this game? I love the game mechanics, and dare i say it, ‘balance’ but its in the most boring stale state of pvp right now.
I’ve posted this many times before. It’s SO SAD these Devs have put such a beautiful, mechanically stunning game in a state of limbo, slowly killing off its pvp population.
You think people REALLY care about the same 3-4 teams winning/appearing in these ‘esports’ finals??? That is not healthy competition.

Yes but that hasnt happened has it. I lost with a 300 point gap, and won with a +300 point gap…now the fact they were premades is bad in itself but the fact the gap was 300 points shows the Matchmaking was even more kittened as if it was working as intended, those kinda of point differences should not happen really, regardless of pug v premade.

Yes. Regardless of win, solo queuers should NOT face premades and i faced 2 in a row.
The first was 55HP, understandably we lost hard, 2nd was a different premade but my point still stands….
Would like a DEV to just find out why i faced 2x premades in a row(full 5/5) when solo queuing at PRIME TIME…
lol thats not really how it works though is it. If i was in a premade facing them, i could learn from them, im a good players, would give them a game(better than the one i just did anyway), but you learn nothing when pugging v these kind of players who just stomp my team because they have the co-ordination and synergy of playing together.

I’;ve faced the top teams multiple times before in premades, but i dont expect that to happen while soloqueing.
Just queued again, and yet again (thanks to their confirmation) it was a full 5/5 premade v me with pugs….we won this time (because our setup countered theirs) but once again..why are these FULL 5/5 premades happening v pugs….
I’m not blaming anyone for queuing, its obviously not their fault, i jsut want to know why their system is failing and why this is happening.
About 19:20 GMT i queued up for some rated because i was bored…anyway we faced 55HP guild full of tryhards v our soloers.
Can a dev explain to me HOW or WHY this happened. BEcause i cant see how a player base issue ( as one of their members seemed to say it was) is the reason. Regardless of player base, you telling me there are not enough players playing at 20:30 server time to NOT put me against tryhards when im soloing?

Totally agree. Coming from WoW and being fairly successful in Arena, i’ve been calling for a deathmatch/arena mode for 2 years. A TEAM/GVG based rooster would be best, not this stupid kittening 5v5 yet you only ever show solo rating on LB bullkitten.
Not only that, having a 2v2/3v3 system would totally reenergise the stale pvp format of conquest. 2v2/3v3= easier to get a team up and running= more players playing.
It would be more fun, easier on the eye and easier for shout casters to do their kitten, promoting more esports stream events imo.
The problems are, is that there is no ‘trinity’ setup in this game of tank/dps/healer…so im pretty sure this is the reason arena has never been implemented. It would take out half the pvp builds considered viable as they are not needed/as successful when it comes to deathmatch( i however think the community would still make a good job of representation of builds).
Finally, it’s impossible to add more game modes like this or even think about boosting pvp when we have a broken ladderboard.
Before anything else, ANET, please for the love of God, fix the ladderboard.

•Deception: This downed-state skill no longer requires a target in order to cast. ? Dev note: This will allow for mesmers to better use their survival skill when facing an opponent using stealth.
They are buffing one of the best downed states in the game already, while leaving the professions with much weaker downed states in the cold. And the reason!? “Mesmers had trouble dealing with stealth stomping while downed”. Yeah, just like the Warrior, Engineer, Necro and Ranger, who all have an objectively worst Avoidance as it is.
Downed state has been unbalanced since forever, but hey lets buff one of the best right? And these are the people responsible for balance changes. Embarrassing.
No wonder the balance patch’s in this game suck and they can’t handle separating balance changes for different game modes. Unless of course it might harm and inconvenience pvp, then suddenly we can isolate changes to specific gamemodes.

If you cant win a 1v1 anyway as mesmer and they stealth stomp (thief is a bit more tryhard) then its your fault and you deserve to die anyway.
Most of the time when im in down state and the enemy stealths, there is usually SOMEONE or SOMETHING (AI eg, a treb, enemy on another node, a pet, a turret, ANYTHING red) in sight to just target and then use downstate 2.
It’s like they buffed something without buffing it, or needing any changes and im not sure why.
In terms of v thief, you have to out play them.
Know they will steal pretty much as soon as they appear from stealth so when they gank me from stealth ( i play gs/staff shatter) distortion/decoy ASAP. usually they will waste a steal.
If they restealth, wait a few seconds then stealth yourself and place portal (usually they will run out of stealth time and you should still be in stealth, meanig you can get some dmg off)
If they are in stealth and you know they are near you, place Chaos Storm down on you. The Aegis(block) it gives you(hopfully) is OP when it comes to preventing backstabs as well as potentially giving them conditions in stealth.
Finally…positioning positioning positioning.
Learn thieves cd’s, and when they are likely to use them and adjust accordingly. Learn all the blink/teleport/phase retreat spots on the maps for mesmer (will buy you precious nuke/heal up time v thieves or any class) and dont be afraid to use portal cd to kite between a small space.
BAIT OUT DODGES.
Either- Stealth and then walk on to of them to diversion daze chain them (they freak out when they see they have 50-60% hp in like 1 second, they will dodge spam and waste their dodges
Or- spam phantasms from range and wait for the dodge spamming to then shatter.
It’s all about element of surprise. LINE UP SHATTERS when in stealth. Dont spam shatters when you and your clones are 1000 yards away as thats way to predictable. (clones have to walk like zombies to your target before shattering (easy to see and hence block/dodge.
I land shatters very effectively by decoy/mass invis>phantasm summoning skills>dodge towards target>shatter (this can all be done before you re appear) and the enemy have no reaction time to dodge ( they jsut waste their dodges after because they panic)….by then you can just line up another shatter knowing they have no dodges.

1) MINOR SHAVING only works with frequent updates, not 6 months apart.
2) You nerf might as a boon which EVERY class utilises, not just celestial rather than nerf the celestial classes that ABUSE it (eg. should have nerfed d/d eles access to might stacking/ regen survivability rather than nerf actual might which mesmers, warrs, thieves, dps guards need to be considered viable)
3)No news on any new maps/modes!? I’ve just accepted this game is going to be a 1 mode bore-fest for ever or until a better, more exciting MMO pvp game comes out. This is extremely disappointing as i love this games mechanics and classes.
4) Nerfing the ticks/duration of skills like drakes breath does kitten all. You said it yourself, it wont harm the intensity, you will just have to TRY a tiny weeny bit hard to keep burn up. Doesnt seem logical.
5) the only positive changes in my opinion are the fear proc duration on nightmare runes, and the cd duration on time warp.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET A BALANCE TEAM/ TESTING SERVER FOR THE TOP PLAYERS RATHER THAN BLINDLY DOING MINOR CHANGES ONLY TO FIX 6 MONTHS LATER

Some of the time it is to shut people up. How would you like it if you worked your kitten off on a new matchmaking system only to have people crying they aren’t winning any games on the forums. He does what I think anyone would do, he goes and checks to see if the matchmaking is actually that bad, it usually isn’t so he comes on here and calls the people out on their bullkitten. It’s like one of my favourite thing about the forums lately.
Yeh 100% agree. The fact he takes time to address individual issues, and often calls out bullkitten is great, i’m a huge admirer of that.
My issue is with the continual posts about very blatant, big issues need addressing, and have needed addressing for 1-2 years now, and all i ever see is a dev response of ‘we are aware/looking into’ yet we have had NO progression in terms of more modes/maps, rewards for r80’s/ people on the ladder boards.
It’s a joke. I love the pvp in this game. It’s unique and by far the best class mechanics of any MMO pvp right now.
But that doesnt change the fact MANY people are only still playing this game because we are simply waiting for a better one to be released. Most mesmers you fight are shatter (you know what shatter means yeh? their clones are up for literally 1 second…… good)
Most mesmers have to dodge/kite/portal about so you dont need xray vision to see the real one.
If mesmers are ruining pvp for YOU, it’s a simple L2P issue you need to find the solution deep within your heart to over come it.
Posting this kind of dribble on the forums is counter productive for you. It’s doesn’t give you super powers to beat mesmers.

PLEASE sort out, when you queue, then leave for IRL reasons before the queue pop, only to find 2 mins later when you are in wvw or on the toilet, the queue pops.
Really annoying and happens EVERYTIME without fail. I’m not the only one getting really annoyed with this.
People are surprisingly stupid if they think Mesmer is a hard mode class. They are either really scared to be proven wrong or just too simple minded and can’t comprehend simple analogies.
Once again, go play DPS Warrior or Fresh Air ele. You’ll come crawling back to your braindead class which spam blinds, invuln, and evades while I bait out your evades with phantasms and then Mirror Image shatter you when you run out of dodges.
Mesmer is THE most braindead glass cannon in the game, potentially more braindead than Ranger glass cannon which is another braindead spec because Ranger is easy mode too. I’ve already stated why, I don’t know why people refuse to understand why Mesmer isn’t hard at it’s current state. Like if you’re bad at Mesmer you are bad no matter what you do.
Seriously even Hambow or shoutbow isn’t that cancerous once you understand that hambow gets destroyed once Berserk Stance is down or shoutbow gets destroyed by chain CC once shake it off is down.
P.S Better pray that they don’t gut celestial Ele or Engi. Tone it down properly, but without care then the glass cannon meta will come back and prove how braindead Mesmer is.

This, mesmers have not all of a sudden become ‘OP’, the people QQing cant hack that a mesmer with skill will out perform a tryhard cele engi or warrior. 100% l2p issue
However i do agree warr is easy more for mesmer but do you honestly think you have a leg to stand on considering how OP warr was for like a year, practically killing a mesmer in 2 stuns?
Yeh mes/thief is op which is why EVERY team runs those 2 classes without exception, and we rarely see even ONE set of ele and engi.
I just get the impression his got roflstomped by good mes/thief coordination and needs to QQ somewhere. You loose all credibility.

This isn’t about how Thief Mesmer is easy or whatever, it’s about how it would be healthy for the game to have fights go faster and have higher risk higher reward comps instead of having incredibly long fights on all points. In a power meta, it would be possible to make quick plays and wipe people fast to make comebacks, whereas in this cele meta you see teams like The Abjured hold 3-caps forever because they have a bunker on every point while thief and necro +1. Not only that but EVERY class would be viable. As zerkers we would see a lot of mesmers and rangers coming back. We would see the return of bunker guard as a viable on point class. We would still see celestial 3-point comps, but if they get nerfed well enough, they will be equal to the power comps, but with less potential to make clutch plays due to less mobility/no portal, and slightly better at 2v2 and 3v3s than the Thief Mes comp, which is how it should be.
