80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]
Ok guys, thanks again for all the infos.
I think I’ll skip that trait then (maybe I’ll get Stick and Move, or Adrenal Health…dunno).
Anyway, I’d really like to know if LC is working fine or not be4 closing the thread :p
i havent used it recently; but when i ran a sword build (dungeons not pvp) it was working fine (as in; activating when an enemy was hitting low health)… but that was a long time ago… after that i respecced into tanky mace+banner support; and finally into what i have now (zerk/knight hybrid with shouts)
which is the point in gaining quickness when hitting a mob who’s already almost dead?)
so you kill them quicker?
so they have less time to react?
so they have less time to heal?
… i do agree that the quickness nerf broke it; and the name is misleading
Well, it was uncalled. Anyway, can we at least put a range leash on those pets? Being chased for 2 mins straight, across all the map because their owner is clueless is not fun…
lol… alot of rangers tag a pet to a player as they go and cap a point; its definitely not ‘clueless’, and one of the advantages of having two half characters
ANet continues to not understand why spirits and pets are bad or is clearly unwilling to address the issues.
pets move behind enemies; thats certainly a start (… well the better hitting on moving targets was a start… but w/e)
… i agree with you about them not seeming to understand why spirits are bad (though clearly they are trying to adress the issue)
Reflection is your god against karkas. Seriously. It so happens that mesmers are gods of reflection.
warrs have pretty nice reflection for kharkas too… initiate with mace+shield (2 blocks; mace 2 wont activate its counter unless you’re in melee range), then you can switch to another weapons for damage (why not axe/sword for another block?)
Why would you need antoher block? it is only really the opening volley they make that really hurt a lot, once you survive that volley they are easy to take down, specially if you reflected it as it should take over 50% of their health if i remember right
CD so you can tackle another kharka faster
react faster.
block.
evade.
channeled attacks.
pre-empt where they’re coming from.
dead thief.
(oh; and pack a stunbreaker)
i dont see why you cant just create three alts for the other 6 disciplines, you have 5 (or is it 4?) character slots by default, once you get a discipline to 400 you’ll rarely end up using it though
this has been suggested several times and i see no reason not to implement it
make gold (and silver and copper) account wide (like laurels), i see no reason why we have to traipse to the bank; deposit then pick up on another character, its an unnecessary obstacle
… and if you do that; you may as well abolish the gold banking feature in the bank (atleast; until you come up with some sort of pin system for bank security)
i mostly play my ranger in WvW, and laugh when someone views me as a ‘free kill’
Then good on you – you’ve found the magic stats to do damage that the other 99%+ of rangers, including everyone posting on the forums, hasn’t yet.
The sad truth is that warrior ranged damage is far superior to rangers, as is warrior/thief/guardian melee. The only thing we have going for us is a regen build that provides insane healing, or the beastmaster build. Or, you’re hiding behind a zerg, raining death on people who don’t even know you’re there.
If you were to play a bow ranger, and cross paths with a halfway competent thief or warrior, you are, indeed, a free kill. They can close to melee range long before there’s a hope of you dishing out enough damage to down them. (at least, anyone who has the wit to slow up a pet then close and kill will down you – I KNOW there’s a lot of witless wonders in wvwvw.)
thats because half of ranger is in their pet; ranger isnt the king of ranged damage because part of them is often in melee
i play a GS/LB ranger mostly; GS auto evade tends to mess up thief tempo, counterattack when they’re in stealth, hilt bash to interrupt HiS, they’re panicking and about to try escaping? switch to LB>rapid fire, shadow refuge? barrage heavily punishes them for staying in it
half competent warr? melee warrs are screwed if they miss their CC (high endurance regen, LR, PBS, counter attack and hilt bash mean they hardly hit me), the only two skills a rifle warr has to be worried about is volley and killshot, both are easily avoidable (killshot is laughably obvious)… arcing arrow is easy to evade (even if pinned down counter attack or LR to mitigate it)
afaik rangers are a higher ‘pvp tier’ than both thieves and warrs (especially the latter)
Ranger should not die to a warrior in 1v1 (except maybe a glass build). It happens, but it’s only going to be if the ranger makes some serious kiting mistakes or poor pet choices.
All things being equal, I agree with that statement. Both from a Ranger, and Warrior point of view.
Playing both classes myself, I take the opposite side – cripple the pet, close on the ranger. (specifically bow wielding rangers.)
I’d guess about 60% of what I face for rangers in wvwvw right now are the shadowcat build, and once you can get ahead of the pet, it’s already over – they can’t evade enough to avoid being toast.
That regen bunker build is somewhat different – I try to spec balanced, and don’t have enough dps to keep them down before the zerg comes by and wipes me. (or him.)
you cripple their pet and close in?… they swap pets gaining quickness (both the pet and the ranger), hilt bash and maul your face.

So I know Omnomberry Pie used to be OP before the internal cooldown was added and now it is no where near as useful as it was.
What if the Warrior had a trait that gave lets say 33% chance to steal life on critical with no internal cooldown? This would give the Warrior some sustainability but still keep Anet’s theme for the warrior.
Why not “Heal when you gain a strike of adrenaline?” grandmaster trait. Would actually give us a reason to use burst.
very very much like this.
i see more thieves and mesmers in wvw than any other class… its funny because they’re normally such bad players
… ive also seen an increase in the number of rangers… though cant say why
Betcha the rangers are playing the kittenin build (all BM, all the time) or the massive regen bunker build. If they’re slinging bows, view ’em as a free kill.

i would guess certain programmable mice (mouses?) would allow you to rebind the scroll up and scroll down to something else; which you can then bind ingame… but my cyborg rat doesnt seem to allow it
- and im not sure how it would interact with the ToS
lower CD on our signets and id be happy.
… no thats wrong… i want a viable spirit build too.
Hilariously, the only attraction I have to the bows is for the skill that’s an homage to the only skill I would use with my bow in my A/R build (yay splintered weapon spam).
At least it was. More recently I’ve felt like experimenting with the longbow and being able to start a fight with 20 vulnerability stacks on my victim to follow up with a quick crippling barrage, swoop, hilt-bash and maul is pretty devastating, even without me building for burst damage. Hunter’s shot has made me feel much more useful when I’m in a group now.
i love doing that in wvw; the amount of heals my hilt bash has interrupted…
first off: theres a lot of scorn for 5 sig warrs (although thats 4 sigs… its not much better), signet of fury and dolyak signet… arent good (although supposedly getting buffed… "/)
second: full berserker warrs can excel in pve (well… dungeons) but only if played well; and may not work well in some pugs
third: that link is outdated ‘Game Version: BWE #1’
fourth: you lack a cleanse
fifth: you lack a stun breaker
It seems people can’t tell the difference between other players and mobs.
uplevelled players in wvw (or glass cannons) often take more damage than mobs
Healing Signet’s HPS is still less than Adrenaline Surge with a 16 second CD.
However, Signet of Rage and Stamin are both awesome, I use Healing Surge, FGJ, Signet of Stamina, Banner of Discipline, and Signet of Rage. 20/25/0/0/25 works great
i know; but has the advantage of a passive trickle that doesnt have a cast time (to replace shout heals to a degree)
… but id be unlikely to switch to it… i do love the evis and endurance (and damage and crit chance) of healing surge
mine
… the GS is knights; so it gains a bit of toughness and loses a bit of crit damage on swap
(im also working towards azureflame…)
nope, in fact I don’t think healing shouts are that necessary in the first place. I think a full zerker or a mixed armor damage build is probably the best contribution a warrior can bring to a dungeon.
my warr is mixed knight/zerker anyway (tried to optimise crit damage)
Is going full Beserker’s the most efficient for PvE? Or is something else more viable because the ranger doesn’t scale off all of the stats as well (because of pets)?
Edit: Mainly doing dungeons.
i do think zerker is the best prefix for dungeons
… (i tend to add bit of knights in (except my mesmer)… because im not totally confident in my ability to mitigate on other classes)… and its not really viable until your familar with the dungeon… and loses alot of effectiveness if partying with low damage teams (the fight lasts longer>more chance of making a mistake>mistakes are alot more costly on zerker characters)
imo: most pugs will be happy as long as you dont use any MF prefix or soldiers
my dungeon warr dropped healing shouts? without replacing them with regen banners?
… and then used signets?
… i dont mean 5 signets… but
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Signet_of_Stamina
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Signet_of_Rage (i know alot of people dont care… but i always feel selfish if i use it over warbanner)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Signet (maybe… probably not… but it doesnt seem terrible; 16s cd with trait)
are pretty kitten appetising…
1 hit?
12k evis
channel?
23k HB (i dont have GS traits… so… meh)
Staying at range seemed a safer bet until I can get better geared (and learn the dungeons more).
[s]thank you for adding that… i keep running into this horrible misconception that you have to build tanky for melee, my full zerk mesmer does fine with sword+focus 90% of the time, my mostly zerk warrior (tiny bit of knights) is almost always gs/axe+x (unless i need range)
the things that annoy me about rangers in dungeons
-building tanky (i hate any player who build pvt, clerics is minorly better, but only if you put out aoe heals)
-using a bear (drakes, cats, birds, moas and fern hound are so much better in dungeons)
-staying single target (theres places where cleave is ridiculously useful, and so many rangers dont carry an axe (not cleave… but still a bit of aoe), sword or gs with them for consistent aoe)
id suggest zerkers or rampagers, but you have to be able to find your dodge button and see wind ups
if you find youself needing some survivability add in some knights, rabid or clerics[/s]
wow… mb… i thought i was still on the ranger forum (multiple tabs ^^;)
(edited by Linguistically Inept.6583)
What’s somewhat amusing to me is the fact that Rapid Fire is a 5 second channel, so before the change quickness only affected 4 of those 5 seconds. Now quickness affects all 5 seconds.
logic fail?
5 second channel at +100% speed is a 2.5s channel
but i havent seen any mention of quickness on pet swap; which is why the quickness nerf hit ranger harder than any other class (you could argue frenzy… but id disagree)
I rather have my conditions removed in a more reliable way and use my sigil for other things
normally id agree… but im bored with only using fire, blood, force, earth, bloodlust or corruption on my PvE weapons… wanted something new; on something like SB ranger i can see it being very useful (high attack rate; bad condition removal)
There both good choices.
Rifle gives you some nice control.
Of course so does pistol in another way…. at low levels it might not seem so great… but Pistol 3 is an aoe blind on a pretty short cool down.
Even the poison is underrated… ya it misses a few hits… still a great way to put a pretty long poison up in pvp.
If your pvping I would say pistol shield myself… lots of control. A stun… a projectile reflect + knock back.
Still there are times the rifle can do the same stuff…
Mostly you will be swapping around kits blowing cool downs… but I always like having that insta blind ready to go if I need it on pistol… it has no cast time which is awsome. If I have no block and need a second of breathing room its an insta fire.
sorry; i shouldve included that this is for a pve build, i love poison in pvp just because half the players dont seem to understand that it cuts into their heal
but; if a player were to stick in kits all the time (i doubt i would… the utility would draw me out occasionally)… wouldnt one handed weapons be better because you can slot two sigils (and according to the wiki the rifles higher base damage isnt taken into account because kits have their own stats)
I have noticed something similar when applying Basilisk Venom to certain Mesmers. There seems to be absolutely no effect.
You’re TOO SLOW, you should backstab them with basilisk venom and be sure to get the REAL mesmer, sudden action almost kill the mesmer
stunbreakers break basilisk venom… i havent tested it but since phase retreat acts like a stunbreaker its reasonable to assume that its usable whilst petrified
my engi is still pathetically low level… im planning a build that involves bombs, nades or toolkit (or all three… if i can go without a stunbreaker/easy cleanse), but im having trouble deciding which weapons i want to go with… i kind of want rifle for the KB and immob… but shield has some pretty nice utility as well (not so into pistols though)
since im planning on staying in kits 99% of the time… is p/s simply better because of the two sigils (on crit+stacking or force; as opposed with rifle, where id simply go for an oncrit)? or am i missing something?
having just asked this in map chat in LA and no one seemed to know (and its pretty hard to test -/im lazy)
can the effect of http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_Generosity trigger whilst you have no conditions at all; setting it on a 10s CD until it can trigger again?
and if so… does http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Sigil_of_Purity do the same? (as -if it didnt but generosity did- it would be more…. well… not just a worse version of it… then id understand why generosity was added)
edit wow im blind
‘This sigil can trigger and enter cooldown even when the wearer is free of conditions.’ on superior sigil of purity – so it really is just a worse generosity "/
… id still be interested in the generosity info though
For spvp/wvw id be a bit annoyed (but id deal with it)
For pve… wouldnt care;ive been considering removing it from my build just because it destroys one of my phantasms if i have three out(which is often in dungeons)
i cant say ive noticed this; does seem unfair if we hit less enemies than other classes though
The evade on greatsword 1 gives you roughly the same amount of damage reduction over time as protection. And guardians conveniently get a weapon which applies near permanent protection with its auto attack. Said weapon also has an AoE blast finisher which puts maul to shame.
It also has a tendency of spamming an annoying light field that actively thwart better fields like fire or chaos fields making it tougher for melees to make use of their combos. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to get a chaos armor or a might blast only to get retaliation.
NO
chaos armor? buffs… conds… sure… nice… WHEN YOU GET HIT; that is horrible; except in pvp/wvw against certain enemies (unload spamming thieves/SB rangers in particular), but if a hammer symbol keeps covering fields up im guessing you mean pve; where eneies attack stupidly slow (also making the confusion from projectiles – and the only class that im aware of being able to spam confusion through it reliably is LB warr- laughable) and often only one player at a time
- i have run into this assumption that chaos armor is a good combo several times in dungeons; i dont understand it; because as i see it; its horrible – the only redeeming feature being the very obvious graphic
symbols are small (even when traited – though can still cover lava font; bonfire and flame trap; if placed directly on top of them… which is highly unlikely) so theres little reason miss-blast into them (my D/D ele is one of my dungeon characters, and i have no trouble blasting my 4 blasts into my ring of fire when im with a symbol/hammer guard – much much different with most mesmers; who like to use feedback off cooldown for no reason at all) and also helps cleanse conditions on melee characters
im; in terms of pve usefullness id rank:
water – heals heals heals everywhere (one of my favourites)
fire – damage damage damage everywhere (my other favourite)
light – cleanses from whirls and projectiles (though most are a 20% chance)
dark – blind (useful on everything but well of darkness; which already blinds… and it stacks duration… removes on attack… which doesnt make sense to me) life steal
ethereal – confusion (in pve? AHAHAHA), chaos armor (which ive already talked about)
smoke(the combos kind of suck – if you arent running past stuff- but most blind anything in the periodically anyway; which is pretty kitten good)
i think we need better dummies before this…
jorlag seems to lag worse than laggerer or tequatl the framerateless for me, even if im at the other side of frostgorge; its ridiculous
considering i need 1350~+ ecto to craft some of the things i want… i have no issue with them dropping further "/
- especially as that means i may end up actually selling the rares i get instead of salvaging (most of the exos i get have a buy price lower than the buy price of its rune/sigil+1 ecto)
i prefer having a guardian in the party more than a mesmer
… but i also find mesmer much more fun to play than guardian
Three arrows in LB1? No thanks. That just turns it into a crappy shortbow and gives me even less of a reason to pick it over SB.
Give me chance cripple on LB1 and faster flight speed instead please.

I play ranger and i have 2 sets of magic find gear that i use.
1) Explorer’s gear (Power , Precision , Magic Find) with runes of the pirate and a weapon with sigil of luck and omnomberry bar. With that you have 18% armor, +50% runes (5 runes), +3% opal orb on helmet , and 15% on 25 stacks on weapon, +30% food = 116% (assuming that’s how it gets added, not sure)
^ That’s for solo farming and running around in pvE maps
2) Ascalonian set from AC (power, toughness, vitality) with superior runes of the noble , weapon with sigil of luck and omnomberry bar. 50% runes (5 runes), 3% helmet (opal orb), 15% from 25 stacks on weapon and 30% from food = 98%. Plus with superior runes of the noble you get +30 power bonus.
^ That for dungeons that require a little more bulky build to survive. As you see you can reach 100%+ magic find without sacrifising any major stats.
From personal experience the difference i see with magic find is not really that much. I noticed a small increase on white loot but the rare/exotic drops for me it look the same without using MF gear. If the possibility of a a rare/exotic to drop is 1% even with 100% MF you will get 2% which is still insignificant in my eyes.
both of those sets are pathetically selfish (i can understand the first one -as it isnt for teamplay-, but PVT is just as bad as explorer gear in dungeons unless you plan on being the aggro anchor -which; as a ranger – i find doubtful; even guardian anchors have a tendency towards knights gear for the on crit procs) you’d probably do more damage (ironically; contributing more) in your first set than your second
’^ That for dungeons that require a little more bulky build to survive. As you see you can reach 100%+ magic find without sacrifising any major stats. ’
you are wrong.
- i also severely hope that youd atleast have the decency to use a dps pet in dungeons so you arent a deadweight
i used to use sword+axe/horn…. stopped because of the annoying root; you cant melee kite mobs, you can position yourself to strategically hit the most targets possible and dodging becomes stupidly annoying (despite having two evades), so i switched to GS for PvE, its just much much better at cleaving mobs
(though leaping about without a target is insanely fun… if not very effective)
Designers have no imagination it seems to fit Ranged attacks to a dagger.0
(to keep the mage a Ranged spell caster class).
that seems a bit… contradictory to me
surely a dagger mage (0-600, melee to mid range; and enough mobility to dance around enemies) is much more imaginitive than the stereotypical ‘Ranged spell caster class’
they do; the ranger forum has quite a few red posts
i prefer zerker (or rampager in some cases) on my ranged weapons, if you’re full zerker then (imo) it would be odd switching to a ranged weapon and gaining a durability boost
Does nobody know about the ascended quiver backpieces? Seriously. It seems like we’re beating a dead horse at this point. They’re already in game, people.
a commander without reading comprehension; bodes well for blacktide
ive only seen him do it once out of dozens of runs (a few days ago); the whole team was like ; is that new?
it wiped the whole team (knocked us all into the lava, it definitely wasnt a dragons tooth as he jumped up and blew us all back) and im almost certain it wasnt the shield coming back on (because im always careful to keep an eye on it- though im normally facing away from him when it knocks everyone out; so i couldnt tell if he does the jump up then)
(also mesmer has a hell of a lot of boonstrip -null field, gs3, sword auto attack chain- they couldve been stripping the might off themselves)
+1
-filler letters-
if you’re planning on longbow;
with a GS you can use swoop to bridge the icky damage distance (a bit tougher to do with hornets sting)
with a sword you can hornets sting>about face>monarchs leap to get back some range
i used to run sword+warhorn/axe in dungeons and the root gets horribly annoying
imo GS pairs well with longbow and sword/x pairs well with shortbow
its a pain; but if you rush through you can easily get past the arena (where most normally camp) whilst still invis (my invis normally runs out just before that tricky dome to cube jump
if you arent confident enough to rush (the darkroom is a pain to rush without mad memories) then practice during off-peak hours
- i love camping at the top invisible; normally by another servers mesmer; if they act antagonistically i pop out of stealth and shove them over the edge; i find theres a surprising number of benevolent campers; who wont attack you unless you attack them; several times ive scaled the arena with 4-5 players of an opposing circle at the top
id love it if we were able to ‘corrupt’ the weapons; turning them orange/red instead of blue
I played an elementalist to 30 and I think they are possibly the worst class ever made. They are horribad. They do crap damage and die so fast it’s pathetic in any spec other than earth. It’s just not worth the time to play them. Maybe when I get a programable mouse to teach to play the musical of key presses needed to make them not suck, I’ll play her again.
you wont have an accurate opinion on any class till 80; i hated mesmer till 80; now it (ele and ranger) are my favourites
-also gw2 has a 1 button press= 1 action policy; afaik macros go against thatTrue but a lot of people use macros though. In WvW, I have seen too many people dodge jumping with perfect timing that makes you wonder if they are using a macro or are just great with the skill.
dodge jumping is ridiculously easy if you dodge with v (which is much more responsive than double tapping); i dont see your point (if thats all you’re basing it on)
