80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]
-should also point out that stability and aegis would prevent the would prevent the fear (on my guard i always try to time my aegis virtue to mess with any interrupts i might get when stomping)
its an issue with the skills not even activating properly.
i will press F2 and the wolf will start the animation and then stop within 1second of time, then the F2 gui button will go into a short cooldown state and i’ll have to press it again to try to activate it. by then it is usually too late
oh… i get that when i get impatient with a cooldown and spam f2 until its available (and a little bit afterwards) it seems the pets can interrupt their f2 with their f2 (it seems like old warr axe triple chop); its not limited to wolf
So… is there any possibility we get an on demand blast finisher? (i love pets, but they make their attacks when it pleases they and in the place they pleases, not when/where i need it)
Thanks.
i dont use drakes much; but afaik they use their blast as soon as they’re swapped in (if its off CD)
Fire fields might be the best field for dungeon running for the pure Might, but as a Utility Engineer (double Super Elixir that I wish was Water field) and Hammer Guardian (constant big Symbol of Protections), I’m constantly producing so many Light fields that any other field has little chance of surviving if it’s under my feet. Don’t get me wrong if you’re thinking I’m just throwing out the Light fields because I don’t care, I despise covering up much both valuable Fire, Water, and Dark combo fields with the Light field because Retaliation is very poor in PvE. If Light fields instead granted Protection with the Blast finisher I would be more appreciative but as they are now, the only Light field I can appreciate is the Wall of Reflection because people rarely use it for anything but cleansing conditions because of it being a vertical field.
super elixer i rarely see to comment enough on (though it heals… so its beneficial as long as the engi doesnt use it when no needs healing)
symbols are barely an issue though; even when traited they barely (fully) overlap a ‘useful’ field (the only one i can think of that they might overlap is geyser) and provide benefits to everyone (though yeh; retaliation sucks most of the time in PvE, wouldnt mind seeing a PvE/PvP split so it gave protection)
-dark field is my third most hated field in dungeons (after ethereal and smoke); just for well of darkness… why would anyone want to blind something that is already blind?
-snip-
no; it most certainly isnt nonsense; if a player is having trouble skipping its because they suck at skipping, and the only way i can understand that is if the player has no ingame spacial awareness of mobs, is blind to any windups and/or sucks so bad at dodging (ive actually seen people who try to run and seem completely oblivious to the dodge function)
ive ran effectively on 7/8 professions (though i dont see why engi would be hard)
2 of those (thief and guard) ive ran past the hounds, blossoms (which are alot more annoying on a level 20) and husks in ta 20+ levels underlevel; and on a particularily early swap i managed to get my guard to fiona (i think thats her name; icr) before the group finished killing the boss
I think it’s a 5000 heal per ally in range; hey, if you had that kind of success on Subject Alpha right away, I have to give you props. If played wrong S.A. wipes parties. In glass cannon, I do take damage on SA though and the drakes saved my hide more than once, particularly on the timing changes in path 2.

Blast Finisher, at level 80, heals for 1320 + 0.2 * (Healing power)
1. LoS or Stacking. Using walls/obstacle to group up enemies. This greatly benefit several melee weapon set which gives high cleaving damage.
this is massively useful
EVERY dungeon runner should be aware of the benefit of grouping mobs or pushing them up against a wall
take CoE for example;
grouping the golems (at both the lasers and security override) makes them soooo much easier
pushing alpha into a wall allows warrs to hit with full whirlwind attack, eles to hit with the greatsword whirl (which does ridiculous DPS if all whirls hit), izerkers to hit with… well… its random… but more, and allows players to dodge INTO the wall to get more dps in after the dodge
– the most painful runs ive done in dungeons are ones where everyone kites/ranges stuff that isnt dangerous to glass cannons
2. Reflect projectiles. Currently, some of the boss big damage is in the form of projectiles. While it can also be dodged, reflection is preferable as it gives gives extra, if not big, dps.
i prefer to think of reflection as defensive rather than offensive
and i dont think its the sole cause of class favouritsm in dungeons
I think the design failure here, if any, is that people are getting inside the bubble protecting the archers. I do it too though. I put a block up with my Guard then Flashing Blade and bam i’m in, its a free beat down. I laugh while the rest of my crew deals with being on the other side of the bubble. I suppose I could put a Wall of Reflection up right in front of the archer.
Dungeons need more little annoyances like this to make people try something different. There’s a reason why each profession has a variety of weapon and utility skills.
I haven’t run this path with my Mes yet but when I do i’m not going to let a little thing like not being able to summon illusions in a bubble slow me down. Feedback would be the first thing I’d throw out, I’d try Chaos Storm, and if it took too long I’d portal my party into the bubble.
yeh… because anet obviously’accidentally’ put those portals in, so players can ‘exploit’ the archers and melee them
… its not a bug; most classes (if not all; but i havent tried) can get in through the bubble
the rest can just use the portals.
+1
solo’d on ranger and mesmer… not as great an achievement as id hoped; it got to eat a husk on my ranger (because i was using my pet to kill the husks aggroing me); but ele killed it before it could do anything
its spawned quite a few times whilst assembling a TA teams, twice i mentioned in party chat when it was about to spawn and they couldnt get from TA to it before it died
not so bothered about the gloss, but the stains sound great
+1
the bubbles annoy me much more on ranger than on mesmer… but the instant death does need to be fixed (the only way a ranger can get a living pet inside the bubbles is if they -and their pet die inside the bubble (or going through it) and they get ressed
So this is the question: Is the community getting less enjoyable?
yes, it was great at headstart (or maybe i just didnt notice the horrible people); then slowly spiralled downwards
“NO NO NO. We should go to the armory. That’s where Zadorojny is likely to be.”
thats the only part of SE i like
(except for getting the rewards… i like that too)
i dont have an issue with it not activating (im assuming you mean normal wolf and not alpine – which i dont use), the only times ive tried to use it and it hasnt worked is because its been on CD (which only occurs whilst downed and i cant see whether its on CD or not)
-should also point out that stability and aegis would prevent the would prevent the fear (on my guard i always try to time my aegis virtue to mess with any interrupts i might get when stomping)

heavies wearing cook outfits would confuse me
… dislike
i kind of like it how it is… very murky and necro~ish
what if the guard has condition removal and/or teleport (JI/blinding blade)? you dont have to wait/destroy entangle to get out of it…
unidentified dyes?
ive gotten tons of rare dyes from pvp
In PvP/WvW, you can drop iWarden on a downed player. Unless it’s a thief or ele, he won’t move away
you can do that with any phantasm… or clones… sometimes i spawn the sword leap clone just to have it prevent a downed player healing themselves
… except duelist/swordsman will follow eles/thieves/mesmers
+1
ive seen two eles since headstart reguarly using glyph of storms in dungeons (just for the aoe blind)
i rarely use it on environmental objects (burrows/eternal flame) if i have a utility spare
… but i dont think it needs to be applied to conjures
the problem i see with this is groups of thieves abusing it in wvw…
You have some good ideas here. Though I am saddened by the fact that mesmers have far more useful stealthing tools in WvW than thieves do. This seems like a crime to me.
lol… how so?
veil?/mass invisibility? each on 90 sec cd and not instant (mass invisibility is stupidly obvious and easily interruptable)
blinding powder/shadow refuge outclass them
- as well as thieves having access to smoke fields and cluster bomb
‘flying tanky pet type’… ‘shark of the sky’ sharks arent tanky…
and this has been suggested many times before
… but +1 for (nearly) anything suggesting new ranger pets
i like the underwater one (because underwater combat is a refreshing change) and cliffside
ty for all the replies; i think it just doesnt fit my playstyle (which… is probably horrible)… i tend to prefer keeping my phantasms alive, duelist seems much easier to do that with (im lazy)… ill practice some more with sword sometime… but dont see myself switching over quickly
Don’t forget you can turn your block into a ranged daze for those extra interrupts !
as i said; the projectile is so kitten slow
… but it just seems so inferior to pistol or focus
duelist is better at staying alive (and therefore; dealing damage) on a single target
warden does more damage and is… well… awesome (unless the enemy moves; then it stand there like a vegetable flailings its axes around)
pistol/focus interrupt seems better than swords block (maybe its because its triggers on any hit; melee or ranged… and i always have deceptive evasion so illusions arent really needed – and the second activation has a terribly slow projectile)
i guess im just terribad at using it; any tips?
i much prefer pistol to sword or focus offhand in pvp; the stun is stupidly handy and you can spawn the duelists a bit away from the fight so they wont get taken out by cleaves/random aoes
in pve (if i dont need the range) i like going sword+focus/none+pistol (switching to GS if i need the range), wardens get kitten anytime an enemy goes out of range whilst duelists will attack whenever; so they’re better when an enemy is being kited or moving about a lot
go guard… (or warr)
everyone loves heavies in dungeons
If anything they could be dropping special crafting materials for dungeon specific craftable armor/weapon sets.
would love to see that
They’re at absolute best, just as effective as the other CC’s
i disagree; knocking a foe against a wall or into another group of enemies are better than a stun imo
i love partying with good GS+x/focus mesmers because they can group stuff up brilliantly; its a shame most of them arent; and dont
Running with a Necro, using Warhorn #4 for speed through mobs which can knock you down and interrupt isn’t especially easy. Nor is it made any easier when you assume that everyone might not know where they are running to in the dungeon.
spectral walk, death shroud, well of darkness, plague (if things get super hairy), reapers mark/chillblains behind you if youre already in combat, in some dungeons (well… TA) necro has an advantage over some other classes
- it may not be as easy as ele or thief; but its still easyAll those things don’t matter when you get knocked on your kitten or interrupted during the casting, additionally the idea is not to pull more mobs on you because that would increase the likelihood you will get knocked down and swarmed. We are not talking about running across a large room here, it’s the catacombs maze tunnel portion of the dungeon
No one is saying it’s impossible, just saying it’s stupid unfun and not a reason I’d want to group with people for such an experience.
If players go to such lengths arms to avoid content, I’d start questioning that “content”.
everything that tries to knock you down at range is visible though… TA knight have visible leap (if someone jumped at you like that IRL wouldnt you try to dodge out the way?) scavengers have a very visible animation, icebrood wolves… well… just dont get close to them (simples)
my necro skillbar for running is
-staff skills- consume conditions, well of darkness, spectral walk, spectral armour and plague (though i rarely use anything other than spectral walk/consume conditions)
well of darkness doesnt cause damage; so wont put you in combat
spectral walk is for swiftness, though if you’re less confident about your ability to dodge then maybe its better saving it to break a stun
spectral armour is a stun break and protection as an ‘OH kitten’ skill
plague is your ‘OH kitten’ skill if spectral armour failed at saving you
consume conditions to cure any form of snare
deathshroud is another ‘OH kitten’ button (which if youve used spectral armour and taken a few hits youll have atleast a tiny bit of life force)
reapers mark/chillblains are only if youve already entered combat (by something htting you) to put some distance between you and whatever is chasing you
It’s like a supply drop,
i tuned out after that… a number of skills could have small tweaks; conjure fiery greatsword could have a ‘conjure watery greatsword’ with healing skills, this isnt a new skill you’re suggesting; i just think its pointless
I’d prefer some kit elite, say, Gatling kit or something. Mortar doesn’t really count, as it’s an emplacement rather than a bundle.
^ id much prefer to see an elite kit for engi over slightly different versions of its best elite (really want a mortar revamp; auto targetting/ai, or turned into a kit -cannon backpack <3-… would convince me to finally finish levelling my engi)
1. eles arent super weak up close
2. mesmers arent super weak up close (if thats what the third poster was implying)
3. guardian has a spirit weapon greatsword
4. it doesnt really fit with ele imo (conjures are wielded; they dont attack of their own accord)
- though i wouldnt mind seeing more visually impressive passive effects for ele

im always baffled when i encounter someone who cant run past mobs, its just dodge the things that try to hit you, cleanse if you get hit by cripple/chill immob and circle around groups
- running through great numbers of trash mobs in order to get to remote portions of the dungeon (not always easy to do on every profession)
running is easy on EVERY profession. and barely anyone clears trash because… thats exactly what it is; trash, its not worth the time it takes to clear it (- and in most cases players have already cleared it before and cba doing it again – because its not worth it); if something is to be done about it; it has to be Anet; rebalancing it so clearing is actually worth it
though i do wish some of the actual exploits were fixed much much faster (i stopped running CM because EVERY party wanted to exploit over the terrain); and invuln spots suck majorly; its just so boring… like before HK was fixed; standing on the stairs; i remember asking if we could fight it normally because stairs are boring, the reply was ‘you can go down on your own if you want’ – by which time he’d spawned a ton of adds (and doubtful that i could aoe/cleave them down as they spawned on my own anyway) and the breeders hadnt been cleared
- just a warning; this is part rant-
two things that are unbelievably annoying (atleast to me) in dungeons and id like people to ‘STAHP’ (yes… im aware of how lame that sounded)
- unwanted control effects (primarily PBS/mesmergs5… slightly less; updraft, into the void and overcharged shot); ‘oh that warr is HBing… but my longbow isnt at max range; i know; ill PBS the enemy hurrdurr’, if you’re knocking an enemy into a wall; or grouping it with another one (herding mobs into a group) then fine; thats good, dont randomly spam them (into the void is particularily dangerous in newbie hands… ive seen close packed mobs seperated because a mesmer decided they wanted to play with their pretty curtain)
- pointless combo fields (mesmer… mesmer all over), almost every time im on my ele and party with a mesmer (i often open with ring of fire>earth attunement>evasive arcana dodge>earthquake>churning earth>arcane blast for 12 stacks of aoe might and repeat this whenever fire+earth comes up -omiting anything that is on cooldown) they end up plunking down glamours (ethereal fields) where they simply serve no purpose (feedback on enemies w/o projectiles or null field when no enemies inflict conditions or allies arent afflicted with any) which then eats up combo finishers (chaos armour is a horrible combo effect in most situations; im fairly sure it doesnt even trigger zephyrs boon), dont get me wrong… when a time warp/well of darkness/symbol steals my finishers i dont get (too) annoyed, because they’re actually of benefit
(just for comparison:
3 seconds of chaos armour; random boon WHEN HIT, random condition to foe WHEN HIT
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chaos_Armor and the durations of them arent very long anyway
20 seconds of (3*) might (32 with the 60% boon duration i run on my ele)
1300+ heal from water fields
5 second weakness (damage reduction for everyone)
frost armour (damage reduction for everyone – and ;if triggered by an ele with zephyrs boon; area fury/might)
and chaos armour doesnt stack… it just refreshes the duration)
anyone else get horribly annoyed at these? everytime i see someone do one of them it takes an extroadinary amount of willpower on my end to prevent myself from screaming obsceneties at them and rage quitting (and im normally a very polite gamer)
(edited by Linguistically Inept.6583)
While the post is here
How often can a mesmer teleport if he traits for it and uses the right weapon setup?
And what specific skills are those?
phase retreat (on staff) has a 5 sec cooldown with the staff cooldown trait and illusionists celerity last i knew
@op
hit them/us, they/we tend to die if they/we get hit enough
i would really really really hate for alpha to be changed in any way "/
Lag spike, mis-dodge, and a misclick they die. In other dungeons this just isn’t the case. I’m finding the Subject Alpha in path 2 and 3 to be too punishing for what you get as rewards and what you need to do.
some other bosses are the same; lag spike in rumblus (well.. pre-change… havent done AC since its revamp) and you get murdered by its scream when you unspike
misdodge at kholer and you get whirlwinded to death (granted you can pop a stunbreaker and dodge away)
- bear in mind thats the first dungeon… coe is… second to last?; it SHOULD punish players if they play badly, and by the time they get to CoE they should have the basics down enough to be able to complete it with ease (but ofcourse we have the ‘no dungeons till 80’ troupe that goes against it)
He either uses his abilities too quickly, or he is hitting too hard. I do agree some of his animations/attacks could be changed to be more telling. I’d be willing to see that happen first and see if things get better.
aoe burn does negligible damage and can be cleansed
earth spike appears quickly but can be ‘evaded’ by not standing in front of his face
dragon teeth can be walked out of
ice spike aoe gives the player two seconds to notice it before going off (maybe not two seconds… but its the advice i always give newbies in CoE, ‘when you see the ice aoe; count to two then dodge’)
endurance shouldnt be an issue; i cant think of any class that doesnt have some form of invlun/mitigation
war has shield stance, whirlwind attack, endure pain and a number of 1 hit melee blocks (if used far enough away from alpha)
guard has renewed focus, shelter and focus5
engi has gear shield (does static shield actually block?)… and im sure other things; but too lazy to check and i barely play engi
ranger has evades on demand and gsblock (if used far enough away from alpha)
thief has evades on demand and shadowsteps,
elementalist has arcane shield, lightning flash, mist form, burning retreat, updraft and earth focus5,
mesmer has distortion, blur(red frenzy), blink and random aoe aegis,
necro has death shroud and… well… i cant think of anything else to directly evade damage… but death shroud works pretty well as a spike damage sponge)…
i think thats all 8 profs… (theres also racials… but the only one i can think of is the sylvari elite… and the ranged one hit blocks… though the only ones i can think of are the mesmer scepter/sword ones – which are unlikely to work as the aoes often overlap; meaning you might block one; but the second would still hit)
the only two professions that are constantly kitten at alpha are ranger (because theres no pet evade or mitigation; which sucks big time) and mesmer (because phantasms wont last long – but the other tricks it has for alpha make up for it -blink-)
(if a player doesnt have a weapon for every occasion that might arise at 80 then -imo- they’re playing wrong; looking at you guardians without scepters, warriors without rifle/LB and eles without foci(?))
-edited for clarity-

It would help if you post more information about what you (want to) use. For example how many traits in which tree and what playstyle you (want to) use (shatter, phantasm, mantra, …).
Asuming you want to use phantasms AND have Sharper Images (even if you don’t have any condition damage) I would say phantasmal fury (especially if you use pistol or focus as offhand)
i mostly use sword/focus… switch to sword/pistol if i need ranged phantasms and sword/sword for fun/wvw
it seems like id be best switching them around; blade training with s/s, phantasmal fury with s/f/p then
Do any of the other classes have so huge spike-dmg (iRogue) in their downed state?
ranger. ranger also has great stalling through pet control (canine leaps/wolf fear/stun)
ive hit 7k+ with ele 3 (im sure it can go higher)
- also i kind of like mesmers downed state
currently stuck between choosing one of these for the dueling adept major trait… i (currently) use GS/sword+x and have 30 in inspiration (phantasmal strength)
any opinions?
magi; already in game
(as ocaritna mentioned;its available in AC,TA and HotW)
Or have the damage numbers pop.
^this and culling fixes are all that i accept needs changing about stealth
It’s the only mechanic thieves have
Never mind them having Initiative.
and steal and dual weapon skills
no karma consumables are usable in WvW according to what i (seem to recall) read(ing) in the patch notes
hate them so much now… so so much… want my old floaty wisps back
It appears that Subject Alpha in Crucible of Eternity has a brand new issue! When he casts the Teeth of Primordus (earth skill), the rocks emerge from the ground before the red rings even appear. So, if he looks at you, there’s virtually no avoiding it. This occurs only on Path-1, which used to be the simplest of the lot. Now I find the supposedly harder path 2 as significantly easier than the first.
is that the row of earth spikes (that looks like eles impale)? if so; i always found it hard/impossible to actually see it coming… the best way i found to avoid it is not be in front of him
save yourself all the heartache of getting to 80 THEN realizing its not for you.
how do you get class to 80 before realising you dont like it? >.>
I’ve never seen it happen. I’ve hit them with knockback during it, does nothing. Hit them with immobilize, does nothing. Tried to slow them down with chill and cripple, does nothing. If it’s supposed to stop them in their tracks, I’m not seeing it.
immobilised RTL is like being stunned
… except you look like an angry ball of electricity instead of a drunk
Hey thanks guys for responding, so i think ill go try him out again and what weapon should i use? I was really stumped on that when i played. I kept switching before every battle or enemy. And do you guys have a preferred race for an ele?
D/D or staff is most common in PvE (i prefer D/D… but always keep a staff in your inven)
focus is a horrible mess of a weapon (except for projectile defense in earth/air)
scepter is… odd… i recall someone stating that the playstyle will make your brain melt… and i have to agree… its just… not fun
asura have some really nice D/D animations… but the dagger models are so small i went human
Same here. And yeah, a really important change. I am sure they could not have used the time needed to create this new model, rig the skeleton with animations, texture it etc. to actually work on something important.
just pointing out… the redesign was probably done by art department (or something)… the only other ‘important’ thing they’d be doing is creating/redesigning/concepting other stuff (as ‘something important’ seems to be synonymous with bugs/balance)
Regarding the air elemental. It does not really effectively hit much with its attack..
it does against large targets
i really like the new design; but i also liked the aesthetic of having a wisp by your shoulder… guess it depends on the new animations as to which i prefer… just logged off for the night… guess im going back on
I have a fear of spiders so I will make sure I’m never in air when I summon an elemental. When I summoned it I was so freaked out. Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. I was so glad when it finally died.
it has four legs and a tail… the lesser one in the image that was posted kind of looks like a dog to me (the legs look insectoid… but arent present in the quantity i would associate with insects/arachnids)
edit
didnt see the two… arm… claws…
reminds me of a cavern scutter
not a fan of the animations… preferred the old one
