  • Option 1: don’t join LFG and do it yourself. Stop complaining about other people playing how they want.
  • Option 2: roll a mesmer and get money from lazy people for your own time investment in the class. Supply only exists if there is demand, so blame lazy people, not mesmers.

"Nearest Enemy" Is Literally Nearest (+more)

After further testing I can say that “next enemy” does not provide the necessary targeting functionality for me. Attached are two images of “next enemies” being somewhere far away and definitely not what I want to target and attack. In PvP “next enemy” is even more wonky and unreliable than in PvE.

I need the previous behaviour of “nearest enemy on the screen/in front of character” – preferably as an option to make everyone happy.

List of Common Controversial Forum Topics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

  • Further revised topics 1-3:
    • added reference threads,
    • added quotes from CC/Dev’s comments,
    • removed and incorporated “I personally think that…” parts into pros and cons. I won’t be fully removing the “Current state of affairs” as I am inclined to think that it has significant value.
  • This will be done with other topics when I have time.
  • New topics (zerk meta, AP and so on…) will be added when I have time. If you’re interested, you can start providing bullet points for pro/con arguments, as well as threads for reference.

I still have to commend Listenbird for the amount of time that has gone into this though.

While he does have his personal opinion on the matters, based on the matters, and the arguments both for and against, one can see that such an opinion IS generally what the community holds as well. While you may or may not agree with them, I feel he did a great job at summing up the various topics that repeatedly pop up, and what is generally said in them, drawing a logical conclusion from there.

Thank you.

For example (expanding one of the pros):::

  • More Variety is always good. Different people like different things. New classes can bring back people who tried everything but didn’t find anything they really liked. It can also attract new people to the game that didn’t have a reason to play before. More players equals more revenue. More revenue means more support. More support means a smoother game experience in the future, even with the balancing nightmare more content would inevitably create.

…That wasn’t that hard, and its obvious that you are putting way more effort in the cons than the pros.

  • People need water to live. Water is vital for all known forms of life. People are a life form. Without water, people die. Robots do not need water. Robots are made of metal. People are not robots. People are made of 60% water, so they need water to stay alive…

You’re moving from a catch-all argument to artificially bloating up information with self-evident statements – which is what politicians in their speeches and students in their papers do. The NPE has done a great job in treating players like 5-year-olds, but I’m not going to do it; if a person can’t make an obvious connection that “more variety” = “more interested players” = “more money to make new stuff”, then I’m afraid s/he won’t be able to provide anything valuable anyway.

The OP is very likely nothing more than a quest for the forum specialist title anyhow (especially in its current – altered and adjusted – manifestation), and we all know Anet dig such ‘highly objective’ threads~

Fun facts:

  • the thread was created before the announcement of the program;
  • OP is not from USA and cannot participate;
  • OP has infractions and cannot participate;
  • OP is not interested in participating in the program.

Every single time I see threads/posts as long as this, I have to sit back and wonder where the motivation for them came from.

“If I spend ten hours myself, I will save hundreds of hours for other people from the community I care about.”

Their beloved game had to go through a server merge four months after launch, the world became a ghost town, employees were fired left and right, important figureheads left, development halted down to a snail’s pace and now the whole project is shaping up to be a bigger failure than SWTORtanic.

Because obviously, the game died because of absence of local equivalents of mounts, dueling and GvG, and not because of global issues with poor management, buggy coding, stale boring grindy gameplay, outdated graphics and so on…

But as you can see, according to financial reports, GW2 is going quite well for a 2 year old B2P game.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

  • Merging BLTC with General: yes. Having duplicate threads on the same subject is bad, and many BLTC topics aren’t that economics-only after all.
  • Merging MAC bugs with PC: no. This may hurt consistency, but having Mac bugs in a separate was always great – you don’t misinform them, they don’t misinform you. If people see a MAC section, they can use it; if they don’t, they’ll just assume it doesn’t matter instead of noting it, and it will indeed cause a lot of confusion and extra clicking and typing.
  • Search: if fixing Search is still difficult, can I suggest… removing the search field from its spot altogether? It should be fairly easy just cutting the <form class=“searchy” name=“searchy”… part from the code. People use it, don’t get anything and assume they’re the first ones to post about mounts, duels, expansions and so on. If you don’t have a search function, it can’t at least misinform them!

I can do some new stuff every now and then and return to my favourite things, I don’t have to exhaust myself by completing large chunks of content and then going back to the old stuff for months. I don’t see any problems with multiple plot lines staying unresolved for a long time. On the contrary, the “monster of the week” concept with no connection between episodes is what actually describes the state of today’s audience preferences… which actually looks like what you want – “everything here and now or I tend to forget what happened last time and feel frustrated”.

Questions on Forum Reorganization

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

It really does feel like its just another way to mute select players to be honest, I don’t see the problem with the current setup.

So I get removing Dungeons, and Crafting forums since those features have been officially abandoned by the devs, but why remove the BLTC forum? That is one of the most active forums with one of the most active devs.

I disagree. I am very used to seeing how threads with potential do not receive enough attention because they’re put into appropriate subforums, but only the most dedicated members (with set opinions) visit those subforums. Also, cases of having duplicate threads existing in several subforums (e.g. Economy and General) are very common, which is rather confusing – and is also discouraging participation since it means either guessing on the “right” thread or cross-posting. So I would argue that “streamlining” the “forum experience” should have a positive effect on all discussions, and I believe this is the idea behind the changes.

The downside: Will it impact load times? I find myself twiddling my fingers waiting for the forums to load at the present time (another argument for new software, perhaps) and I’d hate to wait even longer for loading.

Personally, I rarely have issues with thread lists loading (unlike post editing). They’re loading fairly fast even though I’m accessing them from Russia, not even Europe – usually in under 2 seconds for full page render after I click the link.

Where are we supposed to post regarding dungeons, fractals and other non living story related PvE? General discussion already fills with threads at an alarming rate.

General Discussion is correct. With many developers involved in multiple projects, it’s helpful for them to have a main forum to check for input, suggestions, and questions.

Since many more threads will now coexist with others, especially in the General Discussion section, I suggest increasing the amount of threads per page from 30 (to 40? 50?). The threads which go onto the 2nd page are very likely to sink away into the abyss, and the 1st page already has 5 stickies which decreases the amount of visible threads to 25.

Lishtenbird.2814

As for artifically imposed complexity, lol, this whole game world is artificially complex, I don’t see why we would keep holding on to our shiny fork when we are met a memory of a knife wielder. It’s like saying “Oh hey I worked so hard for my fork, so I should use a fork at all times. It’s just artificially complex to use a knife.”

For me, it felt like “Hey, you grinded for your gear, weapons, traits? Nice, now take it all off, get this stick and go poke some enemies for achievements with it!” I agree that a single episode is okay and totally doable, I just didn’t really enjoy. Probably I’m just too conservative and sometimes obsessed with efficiency; so I enjoyed experimenting with my character’s builds and tactics to conquer all Queen’s Gauntlet bosses including Liadri, but I considered Caithe’s transformation to be annoying.

Yes, having Caithe’s skills for playing as Caithe makes sense. Yes, the instances are easy enough to spam buttons and still complete everything without dying. But I just didn’t think it was appropriate to become Caithe in the first place! I agree with Tachenon here:

That’s all Caithe’s past misadventures should have been: cutscenes.

In my opinion, of course.

There was plenty of opportunity for ‘interaction with the game’ using our own characters. We could have fought our way into tremendously dangerous places, fought horrific bosses, maybe even fought the ghosts of the centaurs, in order to plant the memory seeds in the right spots. Imagine if we’d had the option to find some way to put those centaur ghosts to rest, which, for a sylvari character especially, might have been a very cool thing to do. Restoring the family honor, so to speak.

That would have worked much better for me.

Helping Caithe as a subordinate who is inclined to follow the leader’s orders would’ve made more sense story-wise and gameplay-wise. Why are we Caithe, and not some kind of ghost-warden? It’s a memory, but we should only be able to see it. Why can we make decisions? It’s past, it already happened, the amount of killed asura supervisors is set. Why should we be handed an idiot ball and act as we don’t like, instead of observing and doing as we’re told as a subordinate?

The answer to everything is “because the game designers thought it would be fun”. Okay, it was indeed fun for some people, and I’m even fine with it as long as it’s just one episode. I just personally didn’t really enjoy it.

As for CC – why not? Hey, warriors got CC and heavy armour and large HP pool, thieves have spammable everything and stealth, heck, even rangers got several CCs on one weapon. Plus, mesmers are about counterplay, and 2/3 CCs here have conditions: don’t trigger it and it won’t happen.

But well, constant daze on the phantasm might be too much. I can agree on a 33% chance, or like, daze if 3 or more targets were hit, or daze if the target is crippled or chilled.

“You are wrong because I say so” is not an argument. Disagreed? Knowledgeable in the topic? Provide links, give reasons, contribute to “pros” in a concise manner.

— Too little pros, too many cons. It’s biased.

  • Firstly, it’s usually like that IRL. When you say “Let’s get a cat, cats are cool!”, that’s really enough; even dog-type people know what cat-type people like about cats, there’s little point voicing evident things. On the contrary, saying “why not get a cat” requires going into specific details concerning cats and your present and future circumstances: time cost, money cost, hair and dirt, allergy, illnesses, going on trips…
  • Secondly, many of the mentioned things did not exist in the game at launch, which means there were specific reasons why the game didn’t have them from head start. These reasons are usually quite extensive and still valid, so they take up a considerable amount of space.

— I do not agree with your overview.

  • If you’re knowledgeable in the topic, the best way to prove me wrong would be to provide links to representative threads which contain valuable information. That way, I can not only recheck them, but also include the list of links to respective topics for other players to both have a reference and make their own conclusions.

I’ve actually seen only a couple of people providing valuable feedback here (thanks for that, and I’ll take a look at precursor crafting as soon as I have time), others just post “You are wrong because I don’t agree” and proceed to create yet another thread with the same “because I want” reasons.

Welcome to the thread where all the people gather that leaves all the conjured weapons on the floor because “It’s not my skills”

Exaggerate much?

Conjured weapons and banners (and even turrets) are a persistent part of the game. They contribute to class synergy and are very useful in specific situations since they provide extra utility which you don’t have. You can get swiftness from Banner 3 in both Queensdale and Arah p4, you can cast Ice Bow 5 in both AC and Fractals 50.

Saladborg and Caithe’s transformation are nothing more than gimmicks made for lulz providing new short-term experiences to players who crave it. That’s the difference.

Tyria is doomed with such worthless “Pact Commanders” that can’t even adapt to a situation. =P

“Pact Commanders” do not like artificially imposed complexity, that’s it.

EDIT: attached a chart for conjured weapons. Just FYI, it’s not always “pick it up and press buttons to win”.
