The Tutorial: Some Suggestions

The whole point of NPE was to limit diversity and freedom which scared away former Farmville gamers, and replace it with “streamlined” experience. Giving new skills, weapons, loot and dodges back will make the game “confusing and overwhelming”, so I don’t see it being done.

[Sugg.] Convert Dungeon XP Into Consumable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Since we now have consumables with experience which we can pass to alts, I would like to suggest converting the +70% experience from clearing a dungeon into a consumable.

Switching characters at dungeon ending is an efficient, yet annoying method for both the switcher and the party:

  • the switcher has to leave during/before the final fight,
  • parties have to either bear with the switching or be rude and ask others not to switch,
  • it’s preferable that someone watches the ending cutscene so that the switcher has enough time to load,
  • the switcher needs to have a fast PC to load in time,
  • it’s possible to miss the reward.

In before “switching character is an exploit”: no, according to forum defenders, such things should be treated as parts of “knowledge” about the game, and not “exploits”.

One more try on improving the daily tasks, PvE only:

  • Daily Nice View
    • View a vista in {map},
    • complete a jumping puzzle in {region},
    • or kill 50 monsters across the world.
  • Daily Resource Manager
    • Gather 4 {resource type} in {map},
    • gather 15 resources across the world,
    • or salvage 50 items.
  • Daily Heroic Deeds
    • Complete 4 events in {map},
    • complete 10 events across the world,
    • or complete a dungeon in explorable mode.
  • Daily Proficient Fighter
    • Apply 20 conditions to enemies,
    • cleanse 20 conditions from yourself,
    • or dodge 20 attacks.
  • Daily Mad Quaggan’s Pick
    • Kill a specific world boss / complete a specific tier of Fractals.

At the moment I think that something like that could please everyone: those who need a daily goal and play just a bit, those who play a lot but prefer specific content, those who hunt for APs, and those who level their 1st characters.

This is a double standard.

You’re mad at players who defend a change to the game that’s good for them , but you’re not mad at players who complain about a change which might well be good for the game, but isn’t good for them. You really can’t have it both ways.

I can have it both ways.

There are two types of disagreeing:

  • The new system fits my needs, and I’m happy. I can now get more rewards and faster, compared to the old system. I’m sorry that your playstyle didn’t fit in it, and you’re unhappy about the change, but my happiness is more important to me than your happiness, so I will defend this system.
  • The new system fits my needs, and I don’t care about anyone else’s experience. I had to grind while you were enjoying the game – and now I’m happy that you will be grinding and I will be enjoying the game instead! So shut up and stop whining, your whining means nothing because ANet said that my way is the correct one now, and if you don’t, I’ll keep coming and saying that you’re wrong, completely ignoring your problems and presenting my benefits as absolute.

I can respect the first type of disagreeing, and I loathe the second one.

Also, I’d like to point out there’s “no winning” anyway here. If they listen to one group of players, another group of players is thus “ignored”, if they hear what players want and don’t agree with it, they’re also “not listening” or “destroying the game”.

So really this sort of complaint is obvious to those who can step back from the matter. There’s nothing ANet’s developers can do which isn’t going to earn them the “they don’t listen to players” type of scorn. My advice thus is completely ignore them anyway since you’ll be nailed to a cross over whatever you do.

There is a lot of things that can make the definite majority happy, but

  • these things require more resources,
  • these things require compromising between business monopoly’s needs and client’s need.

Let’s take the wardrobe system:

  • Convert town clothes to dyeable outfits. Even that way, far more people would’ve been happy.
  • …or convert town clothes and costumes to mixable armor skins – requires quite a lot of resources, but everyone’s happy.
  • …or keep town clothes and costumes along with outfits and armour – requires some system tweaking.
  • Remove transmutation cost for sub-80 armour – compromise between money (feeding on clueless newbies and fashion rushers) and user-friendliness.
  • Introduce PvP tracks with transmutation charges straight away to please the PvP community.

Let’s take dailies:

  • Add more generic but laaarge achievements for players playing PvE for a considerable time each day (view vista in map or kill 50 mobs anywhere; do 4 events in map, 10 events anywhere or do a dungeon; gather 4 plants in map, 10 anything anywhere or salvage 40 items) – compromise between goals and user-friendliness.
  • Fix event scaling – lots of resources.
  • Make PvP “Profession Wins” random per player.

As you can see, all this things can be done, and most players will be happy. Of course there always will be a very specific minority (hi, AP hunters and WvW solo roamers), and there always will be entitled kids, but there’s also the happy majority which will help you defend any friendly system.

Also I can see complains about dailies. They are hard? Rly?

Please read the feedback more carefully. Again and again: they’re not hard. They’re boring, tedious, pointless, detrimental in some cases (PvP, event zones) and the worst: now they’re gating APs which you got naturally behind content players know they do not like (be it crafting, fractals or PvP/WvW). They are not achievements of which you talk (see: Liadri), they’re pet tricks which make you feel like an idiot and understand you just wasted time for the sake of someone’s metrics.

And no, “it’s optional” and “but now 10!” are not valid arguments.

this system is superior for people who wanted to get the maximum amount of AP but didn’t want to leave PVE.

I am glad that this 1% will now be a lot happier than the other 90% of casual PvEers who were getting 5-8 AP daily in the old system just for playing the game and without wasting any time on pet tricks. That’s a great way to retain players, I agree.

/sarcasm

Proof of numbers, please.

  • Rank 1-100: 26500AP – 25100AP
  • Rank 100-1000: 25100AP – 21750AP
  • Rank 90%: 21750AP – 4130AP
  • Rank 50%: 850AP

https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/achievements/

Even if dead-set AP hunters are more than 1% of population, they’re a clear minority.

people who wanted to get the maximum amount of AP but didn’t want to leave PVE.

How do those numbers represent that? Those numbers don’t appear to include anything about where or how any given person plays, or what their desire is as far as daily APs.

What does, if not these numbers?

As of 2013, around 860,000 were active players. Top 1000 (1/9th of a percent) has AP from 25100AP to 21750AP – quite a gap. Only 10% of all registered players have more than 4100AP. 50% have less than 850AP. Let’s use common sense: how many dead-set AP hunters at all can there be? A handful, that’s it. Several percent. Now subtract the AP hunters who didn’t want to ever go to PvE – a subset within a subset. So why do global changes which affect all players should be focused on the comfort of a definite minority?

You don’t like the dailies, so you’ll attempt to discredit anyone defending them.

On a more serious note: yes, I hate the new dailies, but what I’ve grown to hate even more is the attitude with which dissent is answered again and again:

“Oh stop whining, you get your laurels for just logging in now.”

I don’t attempt to discredit anyone in particular, I just try to destroy that insulting counterargument, tooth and nail if I have to.

Exactly. I can understand why such changes are made; I can see what can be improved and I ain’t really mad at ANet; who I’m mad at are players willing to defend the changes which suit only them with sadistic pleasure.

My thoughts: "Play How You Want"

I think that players who negatively react to this daily for that reason can’t tell the difference between “given incentives” and “forced”.

I think that players who negatively react to other people’s discontent can’t tell the difference between “whining” and “constructive criticism”.

Especially when the “incentive” in question was being given to them yesterday but hidden behind new, exciting restrictions today. Aaand here we go again, repeating the same arguments all over again and getting only the point-missing “but it’s optional!” and “but you get more!” replies.

We’ve seen it before with Fractal reset and Megaserver. I imagine it’ll be similar.

From the amount of defenders of this change, I can say that the game has attracted and kept the players it wanted, and is steadily shooing away the ones who were but are not happy anymore.

It’s 100% optional, and only rewards 10 AP.

When people massively start using “it’s optional” as an argument in game discussions, you know something is going really wrong.

Crafting an exotic is free if you have an artificer at 100 or higher. Lack of knowledge is more of a problem here than the dailies.

Well, to be truthful that does not look like it was intended. Just as i’m sure doing vistas in racial cities were not intended for zone vista viever dailies (esp. since those cities are not mentioned in daily info).
When presented with a daily, an average player’s reaction is not to look for an exploit or loophole to “easymode” it. If the dailies are there indeed to interest people in diverse activities, and if indeed the system was changed because Anet was dissatisfied by people going at previous ones by the path of least resistance, then the very fact they not only can be easymoded now, but that you think it should be the default approach shows, that the new system failed spectacularly.

^ this. The last thing a normal (“casual”) player with 1 character with 2 started disciplines is thinking of is checking all exotic items in all disciplines in Wiki, rolling a new character today, buying enough stuff from TP, salvaging it and starting Artificer to get the daily.

  • “Events?” spam in map chat and zergs killing mobs in seconds,
  • same easiest vistas (sometimes with portals),
  • linked WPs with most wood/ore/plants nodes,
  • “Craft exotic essence of luck for free” PSAs,
  • same profession matches in PvP,
  • AFKers in hot-join,
  • mob taggers in WvW

are all the symptoms of this new daily system: players feel forced, do it because they do not want to miss the reward and not because they enjoy doing it, and as a result seek for easiest ways to “exploit” the system. I don’t want to exploit the game; I want to do meaningful stuff and get rewarded for meaningful stuff, and not for doing pet tricks or finding the fastest way to not play the game but get the reward. While you’re saying that knowing how to exploit the system is the most important part of the new system… and if it’s true, what does it say about the system then?

Telling people to “get over it”, “don’t do it”, “it’s optional” is not an answer. It’s not a solution. It’s simply an excuse… and when these excuses are weaved into screwed logic just for the sake of defending (especially with a “Ha-ha, eat it!” grin on the face), it obviously leads to aggressive reactions.

Let me ask you a simple question. Has the scaling prevented you from completing the 4-event daily?

  • Gendarran Rock Dog event: yes, my zone-level character couldn’t kill anything because mobs melted in seconds.
  • Gendarran Nebo Terrace event: elite upscaled tramplers kill low-level characters by looking at them.
  • Gendarran Cave event: by the time I was there everything was killed.
  • Gendarran Escort event: mobs melt.

Working as intended?

Mayko, unfortunately, the amount of people blindly defending this new system, who are not willing to admit that the system changed to a worse way for other people with other playstyles, and agreeing that pointless grind which makes players hate each other (<Map> Events and <Profession> Wins, looking at you) is good, is surprisingly high, as you can see from the recently renamed ‘I dislike the new dailies’ thread. The game overall is changing, and unsurprisingly, the amount of players who are content with being spoonfed and given pet tricks to perform for tasty treats, is rising.

Lack of knowledge is more of a problem here than the dailies.

Oh… so now players are required to have divine knowledge of the best “exploits” to efficiently fight the pigeonholing dailies?

I ran into Gendarran Fields today with a level 28 character to do the events, and it took me my best knowledge of the profession to be able to tag kills and earn event participation – which a couple times I didn’t, and other times died because the events got upscaled for hordes of lvl 80s. Is it also the “knowledge” we’re speaking of?

Quote from the “I dislike the new dailies” thread for those who want to focus on the daily system:

Okay, my review of the new system after “testing”.

Likes:

  • More tomes of knowledge, both in login rewards and achievement chests.
  • Passable XP containers – can do on level 80 and pass to alts.
  • Less RNG in when you get BLTC items.
  • Has specific things to focus on if I simply want “something” to do.
  • Choice of the form of the final reward – choose laurels, tomes, ascended – whatever you need at the moment!

Neutral:

  • Login rewards – sounds cheap to me (and a step towards “precursors for AFKing in LA”), but as long as it pulls the metrics in the required way…

Dislikes:

  • “3 or nothing” AP.
    • You can no more get some AP by simply playing, and full 10 AP is not the point.
    • Fix – Daily Completionist – introduce tiers of rewards, like with many other achievements – the system is already in place! These can be 1 AP for one daily, 5 AP for 2 dailies, 10 AP for 3 dailies (or other reverse combos, like 5-8-10). You don’t feel (that) forced to do the 3rd daily even if it’s PvP/WvW only.
  • Far too specific dailies. This punishes players who play relatively long (and contribute to metrics!) but don’t want to do specific things.
    • Fix 1 – give an excluding choice of doing a specific short achievement or a generic long achievement. Example: 1 achievement “Gather 4 plants in Ascalon, or gather 20 of anything anywhere.”
    • Fix 2 – add generic achievements which have no chests but count towards Daily Completionist. Example: 2 achievements, “Gather 4 plants in Ascalon” with a chest and “Gather 10 of anything anywhere” without a chest.
  • “Idiotic” dailies – dailies which make me feel like an idiot, or like a child who has to go buy a bottle of milk for his insane old grandma while there’s a full fridge of milk already.
    • Fix – Daily Vista – no ideas… it’s just… eeewh. How about renaming to Daily Nice View and adding “or kill 20 monsters for a picturesque landscape of corpses”? Or… ambients?
    • Fix – Daily Forager/Miner/Logger – see above, adding optional larger but generic achievement at least makes more sense.
  • Detrimental dailies – dailies which cause distress because of too many players focusing on them.
    • Fix 1 – Daily Map Events – remove from starter zones entirely to let new players complete events instead of competing for tags with zergs.
    • Fix 2 – Daily Map Events – change to Daily Zone Events to counter zergs which faceroll poorly scaling content. Most likely won’t help because of the megaserver system.
    • Fix 3 – Daily Map Events – rotate between players. Undesirable since completing PvE with friends is good.
    • Fix 4 – Daily Map Events – change to Daily Zone Level N-M (or higher) Events. Having to do Queensdale events instead of Dry Top makes me feel like an idiot (sorry). Undesirable because of low-level characters, but it’s like that now anyway.
    • Fix – Daily PvP Profession Win – rotate professions randomly for each player. Unlike PvE dailies which are good to be completed together, PvP dailies should encourage players to have different goals for balanced team composition. And “profession win” type of daily is by itself more of a cause of frustration rather than a goal.
    • Fix – Daily WvW Veteran Creature Slayer – remove not to disrupt productive play.
    • Fix – Daily Fractal Tier N – replace to “Tier N or higher”, similar to “Exotic Crafter” which works for ascended crafting too. Missing a reward because you did fractal 49/50 instead of 1 feels… silly.
    • Fix – Daily World Boss ABC – replace with “Daily World Boss (any)”, or at least large subsets of world bosses. Time restrictions are bad, time restrictions with no in-game schedule – twice as bad.
  • Not enough PvE choices. We all know that it’s a mainly PvE game, okay?
    • If I don’t want to play PvP now, I won’t. If I don’t want to play WvW now, I won’t. “Encouraging” me to play other modes leads to frustration and feeling of being forced to jump through someone’s hoops.

I hope that’s useful and I’m not too late for the Monthly Feedback Gatherer.

You can proved 90% of the casuals were getting 5-8 ap daily in the old system? I’d be interested to see that.

It’s very easy to say people were getting achievement points by doing nothing, because that’s what was happening. Anet decided to actually make people do something to get achievement points, while giving them the other rewards for free.

We were doing “something” before. You couldn’t get AP simply by logging in, you couldn’t do “nothing”. You had to… surprise! – PLAY the game daily to get daily APs. That’s why they’re called “dailies”. If you were running around the world, killing stuff (naturally applying condies and dodging), gathering mats, for a considerable time, you were boosting ANet’s daily time metrics and getting your APs for playing the game. Would you really argue that people who were actively playing PvE (and not chatting in LA) for 30-60 minutes an evening were not getting AP?

The problem is that now, to get any daily AP, you have to perform pet tricks do specific things instead of doing something. Is it hard to see what people do not like?

You are seriously crying too much, daily takes at most 15mins in the new system – if you want the 10 AP suck it up and do it, if you don’t then you’re getting the Laurels etc automaticly anyway so no real loss.

All I want is my 5-8AP for 0 minutes of dedicated AP farming a day. “15 minutes” is a clear loss for me, since it’s almost 2% of my real-life day and a far larger percent of my available evening gameplay.

Today’s PvE of Fractals or Fractals is kinda bs. There’s no other word for it. Instances play like that shouldn’t even be considered PvE. Make Dungeons and FotM another category all together because they are certainly different game modes.

While I still dislike the restrictions placed upon PvE players, and like that I can get 3 Pristine Relics and 9 +1 infusions and 1 Tome of Knowledge for doing Fractals lvl 1, and still think that fractals/dungeons should be extra to the 3 easy achievements, just like Wurm, I can tell you that Fractals level 1 is faceroll. Especially after level 50/49. Especially since “Daily Fractal” requires only 1 fractal from the subset of 4, and can be done faster than CoF p1.

While I am aware that katakana English can be sort of misleading, this case looks more like a wannabe meme made by someone who wanted to show off his “Japanese knowledge”.

Here’s the original screenshot from the show – no latin at all, “te” and “he” in katakana. I used the version with “tee hee” from stylized subtitles since I doubt many people know katakana here.

The show is Japanese, based on Japanese novels (20+ tomes) and manga (30+ tomes excluding spin-offs), and has 4 seasons and a movie. So I’m pretty sure it’s not an amateur’s work

Hmm, why is it [katakana for TeHe] in Japanese?
Shouldn’t it be more like [katakana for TiHi]?

Why not? If it’s “long e” with “e” pronounced as in ant, and not “i” pronounced as in tea?

I double checked google before I wrote my comment and it told me, that the pronunciation is like in “tea”, if not shorter, therefore no lengthening. If it was a “long e”, we would still miss the lengthening “-” (like Te-He-)…

You checked exactly Google what? If Translator speaker for “tee-hee”, then it’s not a reliable source. For katakana “te”, Google distinctly says “e”, not “i”: link

I can’t give you any audio proof since the “tee-hee” image is usually used with punching sounds in the source (just checked).

The katakana indeed says “te he” without lengthening, but since there’s a universal “tee hee” expression written with dual “e”, the translators thought it would make sense to use the form accepted in English.

Anyway, most likely that was a Japanese adaptation of an English sound based on the written form; as in many other cases (I hear those in Russian every day), the sounds/letters get converted to something “more intuitive”.

Hmm, why is it [katakana for TeHe] in Japanese?
Shouldn’t it be more like [katakana for TiHi]?

Why not? If it’s “long e” with “e” pronounced as in ant, and not “i” pronounced as in tea?

I don’t think anyone other than devs will be able to answer you; currently, the ornaments drop from correct racial chests with (almost?) 100% chance, but no one knows if:

  1. it remains that way after Wintersday,
  2. the drop rate gets reduced but items are still obtainable,
  3. drops get removed until the next Wintersday.

I believe the 2nd option is most likely, but that’s only a guesstimate.

To be on the safe side, you can get a lvl 80 guildie/friend, preferably thief, to carry you to the JP without fighting mobs, when time comes closer to Jan 13 and if there are no news from the devs.

+1 OP! Great Work, this is such a good thread. It should be stickied immediately, and maybe the objective opinions written here will help inform both players an Anet about good and bad ideas!

I’m waiting until I can polish it, make it look more objective and add reference threads before suggesting to sticky it. Unfortunately, it’s Christmas season and I’m a bit too busy/tired to revise it at the moment.

Her face does look weird and non-elegant, though I don’t really care about blinking.

Her idle “arm swinging” animation looks too fast.

She also has “Miniature…” instead of “Mini…” in the name and has problems being linked (the code is empty in chat code, but the names appears when sent); I’m not sure but that might be the result of her not appearing in the wardrobe.

But I still like the mini and this is my (as a sylvari person) favourite one at the moment Been waiting for it since datamined and wasn’t hoping to see it during Wintersday.

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

Lishtenbird.2814

Incorrect analogy. There were not an equal amount of choices before. You’re misrepresenting the previous system by suggesting that.

Here’s a better analogy.
The shop had 8 toy bears, 2 toy cats, and 2 toy dogs.

No, there were no 8 pve-specific dailies. Most of the dailies were generic, and could have been as easily done in any of the three game modes – which you already know. So, now it’s you that are knowingly misrepresenting your case.

Gathering could have been easily done in PVP? Daily Fractals? Daily Story Dungeon? Personal Story? (Region) Killer? Costume Brawl? Kill Variety? Puzzle Jumper? Aquatic Slayer? Event Mentor?

Don’t be oblivious, please. You know how dailies were mixed and how limited in quantity PvE-only achievements were. Here’s a list of dailies we would’ve had with the old system today:

  • Daily Events [PvE] [WvW]
  • Daily Kills [PvE] [WvW]
  • Daily Gatherer [PvE] [WvW]
  • Recycler [PvE] [PvP] [WvW]
  • Leveler [PvE] [PvP] [WvW]
  • Condition Remover [PvE] [PvP] [WvW]
  • Daily Dodger [PvE] [PvP] [WvW]
  • Daily Group Event Completer [PvE] [WvW]
  • Daily WvW Invasion Defender [WvW]
  • Daily WvW Tower Capturer [WvW]
  • PvP Daily Matches Played [PvP]
  • PvP Daily Player Kills [PvP]

Choices for game modes for old system:

  • 8 dailies completable in [PvE]
  • 10 dailies completable in [WvW] (ironically, more than PvE)
  • 6 dailies completable in [PvP]

Choices for game modes for new system:

  • 4 dailies completable in [PvE]
  • 4 dailies completable in [WvW]
  • 4 dailies completable in [PvP]

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaah, it’s the “same”, simply “different” choice.

So if anything, we now have “4 bear only”, “4 cat only” and “4 dog only”, instead of a lot of extra “bear-which-looks-like-cat-and-dog-and-everyone-loves-it!” animals.

  • Fix 2 – Daily Map Events – change to Daily Zone Events to counter zergs which faceroll poorly scaling content. Most likely won’t help because of the megaserver system.

Not sure what this is, but could also suggest the fix previous would slap that down a bit. Besides, if you try too hard to break the zerg, you hinder legitimate events in high level zones getting open participation. Which goes much more against the spirit of the game than this problem of facerolling things easily due to zergs.

Oh, by “zones” I meant “regions” – Kryta, Ascalon etc.

We had these in the old system too, such as “Dodger”, “Ambient Killer”, “Skill Points”, “Leveler”. I’m somewhat happy with them reduced in scope. So long as there’s never more than one of these “gimme” tasks? I’m kind of okay with it.

Oh, right, could also throw “WvW Dolyak Killer” and “WvW Land Claimer” / “WvW Ruin Master” on the “gimme” achievements. Those are often painfully easy to get done.

“Dodger”, “Skill Points”, “Leveler”, “Condition Applier/Remover” are a part of the general game process; it’s not like some idiotic task to do which you were never planning to, rather, “since you’re in the shop anyway, get me some cheese and I’ll give you a candy”. “Ambient Killer” – yes, that’s more like vista viewer.

[Sugg.] Remove Icy Sound from Frosty Breather

They killed the “jet” sound F/X from the Witches Broom. (Nowadays it gradually fades away to nothingness.) Maybe they could do that with your rebreather and restore my broom to it’s always on state. Let me tell you, it’s eerie to move around and make no sound whatsoever.

(Immersion breaking! My immersion is being damaged over here!)

Well, I think that a sound from a device which moves and makes noise is a logical expected behaviour, while the frosty sound of a cosmetic aura – not so much.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

I’m honestly getting tired of your intricate excuses and word-twisting, Filaha. You’re succeeding in it, I admit, as other posters have already noted it. For now, I’ll just stop at an analogy for this thingie:

12 choices is 12 choices. Personally, I can finally get 10 AP per day without having to leave WvW, whereas before I couldn’t. I now have more choice of how to get 10 AP. You PVEers keep forgetting this.

Different choice =/= less choice.

Previously, the shop had 10 different toy bears, 10 different toy cats, 10 different toy dogs, and 10 different toy foxes.

Now, the shop has 1 toy bear, 1 toy panda, 1 toy cow, 1 toy horse, and even an extra animal type – 1 toy kangaroo! And you’re saying “hooray!” at “different” choices. GJ.

What happened to underwater content?

I do enjoy underwater content, but just as much as we have it: a bit.

It has issues with skill balance, z-axis movement, perception of depth and others which make underwater content enjoyable only to an extent.

I’m pretty sure that when we come to fighting Steve Bubbles (provided we do in GW2 and not in GW3), they’ll make improvements and focus on this type of content to make more people enjoy playing it

The actual objective facts of the current system is that for some effort, you get more rewards.

The actual results is that with same effort, you get zero APs.

Except that’s been how it’s worked for how long, now? I mean, I didn’t get Dry Top rewards without going to Dry Top, I didn’t get dungeon rewards without going to a dungeon. Even the old dailies required me to go out of my way if I wanted 10 AP most days.

You got 1 AP for doing 1 daily. You get a drop after killing a mob. You get 2-12 geodes for doing one DT event. You get a daily chest for doing a dungeon.

You don’t have to grind DT to T6 to start getting the rewards. You don’t have to do all dungeon paths to get a daily chest. But you have to do 3 dailies to start getting AP.

Nice try though.

Even the old dailies required me to go out of my way if I wanted 10 AP most days.

If. A small problem of a handful of AP hunters.

So the real problem here is the rewards, not choice. So why do people keep misrepresenting the problem as having choice removed?

Nice play on words, omitting the “choice of ways to get the reward” part.

If you have no interest in resurrecting people, harvesting, etc. then the old system was still forcing you to go out of your norm to do something for achievement points.

Correction: for laurels, coins and BLTC items. You got AP straight away. But you were correct in saying that freedom was relative; but for those who are assumed to be the majority (PvE whatever-I-want-today players), that relativity was pretty much absolute.

As has been suggested, having best of the both worlds would be desirable:

  • letting AP hunters grind less,
  • letting longer-playing but specific-content people get larger but generic achievements naturally,
  • and letting everyone, especially ultra casual players, to get daily currencies for logging in.

However my assumption is that if they make more fractals out of living story it will be after the season or during a more natural break (I.e. not holidays).

Since Rytlock is still in the Mists, it would make a lot of sense to put his adventures into fractals, while also adding them as a story mode temporarily (just like Thaumanova back then).

Marionette and Breachmaker battles, if they return, will be raid-style content.

I actually really hope they do return. I loved those fights so much, but they are unsuitable for a 5-man fractal team.

I actually agree. I remember a discussion about converting Marionette to a fractal back then, and I think most people agreed that scaling it to 5 people would kill the epicness.

I still have hopes for some form of guild raids since a “spawn guild map instance” item has been datamined some time ago.

It seems to me that you people complaining have simply become set in your ways, and are opposed to the change because “We had it before.” “We had it before” is not the same as “It was better for everyone before.”

I consider “we had it before” to be a valid concern. If you had it before and now you don’t, that is to be perceived as removal of freedom. In this particular case, it was removing the freedom of getting 5-8 AP given for playing almost any thing in the game and replacing it by a requirement of doing 3 specific tasks for 10 AP.

I agree with you, and I actually think that if we had the system that we do now in the past and it was updated to the old system that we just got away from, there would be just as long of a thread about how hard it is to get dailies.

Do you remember this 8-page thread and this thread? It proves you wrong. We already had less choice and specific tasks, and people complained that they didn’t like it, and were happy when we moved to more choice and generic tasks.
