This thread will be ignored by serious sPvP community since OP lacks gaming experience and global understanding of how GW2 works, and doesn’t understand how many things these “improvements” will break all over the game.

If extrapolated, that’s essentially a “flying mounts/wings” thread.

I am really happy for all these people playing PvP only and having stacks of tomes, but I’m even more happy for all those people who were forever asking for instant 80 consumables, XP collectors and more accessible tomes for alts, especially after the NPE update. At 8 lvl 80s, I’m still creating alts and I find these tomes extremely useful.

Everyone and their mom is a Warrior

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

  • Warriors have been nerfed multiple times already, but who among the pugs reads the patch notes?
  • Having more than 1 warrior in a party is actually suboptimal – but hey, go tell it to the pugs! I remember doing paths with 4 warriors and doing the same stuff with war-guard-ele-engi-ranger or something like that – the latter being far better when organised: engi for vulnerability and blasts, ele for might, ranger for frost spirit and spotter, guard for active defence, war for banners – everyone contributes, skills synergise and traits do not get overwritten.
  • It is hard to be a bad warrior. It is very easy to be a bad ragner or an engi. For pugs who follow the path of least resistance, it means war/guard/ele is the way to go.

So yes, while there is a certain imbalance in PvE (because the game is balanced around PvP, because E-SPORTS!), the problem is mostly in the ignorance and not balance.

I've redesigned the UI & the official website

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

- I like the change to the Hero/Equipment tab.

  • I dislike the unnecessary tab switching of the current system, it’s a waste of time. The popular excuse of people being “confused” and “overwhelmed” by UI led to UI being plagued by more and more clicks and presses which eat the time of people who are not 5 year old and know how to read and look; instead, I’m regularly misclicking tabs which look very alike. So yes, in the hero stat/looks panel, everything should be in one and only place.

- I dislike the LFG change.

  • Information improvements are good (paths run/not run today, on this character, on another characters, guildies in LFG etc.).
  • Extra large slide images are bad. This is also a plague of the modern UI focused on being “cool looking (on tablet)” instead of “easily accessible (on PC)”. Lists are perfect when there’s a lot of stuff to list; in this case, in the LFG panel. I want to have access to all LFGs straight away, because if I open LFG panel, it doesn’t mean that one single dungeon is the only thing I ever need. Instead, I often go through different LFGs to find a party which I might want to join. However, “extended” view is fine as long as it’s an option.

- I dislike the website redesign.

  • Quoting myself from above: This is also a plague of the modern UI focused on being “cool looking (on tablet)” instead of “easily accessible (on PC)”. Lists are perfect when there’s a lot of stuff to list; in this case, on the website. MOVE THE FRIGGING SLIDESHOWS TO YOUR PERSONAL “COOL” WEB PAGES AND KEEP THEM OUT OF STUFF I NEED TO USE DAILY! Thank you

[Sugg] How to fix the Zerker Zerger problem

I can see that alot of people are still asleep when it comes to what’s best for the game here considering the number of “don’t do it” posts that have exactly 0 to say as an alternative or that are posting nonsense about it.

~ It is broken.
~ This meta shouldn’t exist as the sole means to play the game.
~ Balance doesn’t exist.

Until these things are fixed the game will remain as bad as it is for the rest of the community it’s affecting the game in the same terrible ways that Gearscore and DPS Meters have on other titles. If you don’t care about that then you don’t care about the game and you don’t care about your community so some of you are showing your true colors in your replies here today.

I am glad I’m playing the game developed by ANet according to their philosophy and not yours.

Zerker problem?

I love that moment when “Scrubs” pwn “Elitists”.

The “scrubs” obliviously believe that they pwned “elitists” when they enter the “elitist” groups and make them fail because their ignorance ruins the synergies and strategies which are required by “elitists” to be so efficient.

That’s a rather condescending view-point. It’s not unheard of for a scrub to end up out-performing elitist that were not as skilled and finely tuned as they thought they were. Hardly means the scrub made them fail or ruined there synergies.

It’s a condescending view-point directed at an another condescending view-point. (That’s actually why most “zerker” threads are degrading into flaming eventually and get closed.)

Yes, non-skilled players aiming for skilled tactics can fail, and skilled players using common sense can outperform the less sharp wannabes. But skilled experienced players in a coordinated group can fail because of an unexperienced player “playing how s/he wants” – which I do see from my daily lvl 49 fractal runs with guildies on TS when we’re short of people, and even from CoE/AC runs. No Deep Freeze because of an unneeded CC on zero defiance stacks, area retaliation instead of might and so on, and so on.

Look at the summary:

In favor arguments have 1 line
Against arguments have 1 paragraph detailing and explaining his point of view.

Make your conclusions.

I am not the one claiming that the forum represents the community. The other guys is.

Firstly, already answered:

— Too little pros, too many cons. It’s biased.

  • Firstly, it’s usually like that IRL. When you say “Let’s get a cat, cats are cool!”, that’s really enough; even dog-type people know what cat-type people like about cats, there’s little point voicing evident things. On the contrary, saying “why not get a cat” requires going into specific details concerning cats and your present and future circumstances: time cost, money cost, hair and dirt, allergy, illnesses, going on trips…
  • Secondly, many of the mentioned things did not exist in the game at launch, which means there were specific reasons why the game didn’t have them from head start. These reasons are usually quite extensive and still valid, so they take up a considerable amount of space.
  • People need water to live. Water is vital for all known forms of life. People are a life form. Without water, people die. Robots do not need water. Robots are made of metal. People are not robots. People are made of 60% water, so they need water to stay alive…

You’re moving from a catch-all argument to artificially bloating up information with self-evident statements – which is what politicians in their speeches and students in their papers do. The NPE has done a great job in treating players like 5-year-olds, but I’m not going to do it; if a person can’t make an obvious connection that “more variety” = “more interested players” = “more money to make new stuff”, then I’m afraid s/he won’t be able to provide anything valuable anyway.

Secondly; got constructive stuff to add apart from “I’m used to it so put it here”? Add it. Most arguments “in favour” I’ve seen boil down to the stuff I mention.

the trinity system in gw2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Here’s a summary of the hundreds of previous threads on the subject:

4. HOLY TRINITY

[~] Threads for reference:

[+] Arguments in favour:

  • That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and enjoyed it.
  • No Holy Trinity means no dedicated roles. No roles means no distinct place for you in the world and no way to master your role, which in turns means boring gameplay.
  • Absence of dedicated roles leads to issues with gear diversity, such as “zerk meta”.
  • Trinity provides easier ways to create new encounters, including challenging ones.

[-] Arguments against:

  • That other game also has the frustration of waiting for a certain type of player, gear treadmill, open-world PvP and other things which spice up the life for some players while annoying other players. GW2 is a different game which caters to less competitive players: you can play what you want and how you want (and complete it at your own pace) – which is what makes GW2 loved by many people who bought the original “revolutionary” MMO.
  • As easy as it seems, combat in GW2 is rather deep and has a lot of room for self-improvement and “fun”. Further reading: GW2: official Blogpost about the Holy Trinity – the philosophy behind no holy trinity explained by developers. Dungeon speedclear videos can tell you about tactics, guides – about builds and rotations which provide best class synergy; sPvP has variety of builds, team compositions and map tactics and tricks are very important there; WvW roaming is unique – all this requires different sets of skills, traits, weapons and tactics which become better if you’re in the right party, even if there’s no trinity.
  • Constraints are fun for some; freedom is fun for others. You can be a healing WvW thief, a buffing DPS ele, an unkillable Nomad troll warrior – your role is up to you to decide, but you will still be able to complete content because the game doesn’t pigeonhole you into a single role.
  • Instead of one gear meta for all players, there will be one meta for each trinity class – and nothing will really change.
  • Absence of holy trinity is refreshing. It also allows to bring new types of encounters which benefit from non-trinity mechanics.

[=] Current state of affairs:

  • “Holy Trinity” threads are often met with negativity because players are already enjoying the game the way it is and do not see a reason to scrap the old established system which is fairly unique in favour of a generic one. Minor changes to things like condition caps or mob AI sound like better ways of gameplay improvements.

You may also try searching the forum for the previous threads, for this see this sticky.

Better optimization Is Needed

Lishtenbird.2814

Game requires too much from the CPU in WvW mostly, in PVE the usual bottleneck is the GPU (and VRAM)

In PvE, zergs also happen. But yes, out-of-memory crashes do happen (IIRC since the game is 32 bit). I’m currently used to lowering graphics during Tequatl or WvW zerging not to crash.

This game is bottlenecked by the amount of other players and or their (wireless) LAN latency and corresponding lag…

So that long post with lengthy calculations is saying that I’m having bad FPS because of my Internet connection? …wow.

I wonder why my offline games ever had bad FPS. Probably because they had no online connection

Skill recharge transfering to other utilities

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Our QA Team is investigating this. Thank you for the details you’ve provided.

Quoting a post from ten months ago, with a video showing why it is happening and suggestions on how to fix it:

This bug has been reported multiple times, but thanks to many clues on the forum, here’s a reproducible scenario and a video.

This bug consists of 2 parts. Part 1:

  • If you have a specific skill A in slot 7 underwater and slot it into slot 8 on terrain, that skill A will jump from slot 7 to slot 8 underwater as well, swapping places with skill B which was slotted in slot 8 before it. Works both ways, for terrain-water and water-terrain.

Part 2:

  • When you have skill A in underwater slot 7, and then cast skill B which is in terrain slot 7, and then slot skill A into terrain slot 8, the slot 8 will go onto the same cooldown as terrain slot 7. When you go underwater, you will see that it happened due to the part 1 of the bug, as skill A which was on cooldown underwater jumped from underwater slot 7 to underwater slot 8, and then triggered back a cooldown on the respective terrain slot.

That sounds confusing, but if you take a look at the video, it gets pretty simple. More on this bug: listed as #22 here, video, separate topic, video, mentioned here as #1. This has been reported by a developer to be a traited skill cooldown issue, but apparently it is not.

Solution:

  • All skills should stay in their respective places both underwater and on terrain, even if they’re the same skill.
  • If skill A is on cooldown in slot 7 on terrain, but is slotted underwater as 8, then slot 8 should be on cooldown underwater. Or it shouldn’t and slot 7 should, based on developers view of skill-slot concept, but under no circumstances should 2 slots go on cooldown.

I really hope this gets fixed in the feature patch. I like having my skills where they belong and not jumping around or going on dual cooldowns.

Currently it leads to an absurd situation: on new characters, I do not slot in any underwater utilities just to be safe when switching utilities on terrain.

Those people want everything nerfed to the lowest common denominator – them, because scrubs. Unfortunately, when it gets nerfed, they complain about it being “too long”, “too unrewarding” and so on, since they live in a vanilla world and can’t grasp the fact that those two things – rewards and efficiency – are what all games are based on.

While we’re at it, can we make it ground-targeted instead of random? I’m so tired of porting into an even worse AoE because of RNG gods. And dieing because I used a “survival” skill.

And revert the useless Mimic to counter “balanced” rangers?

I would like to suggest adding more armour dyes which perfectly match hair colours for all materials. While there most likely are close dyes for most colours, I’m sure there are also hair colours which have no armour equivalents – especially among the new ones. Those colours could be named, say, something along “Precise [Hair Colour] Dye” and put into a Gemstore package.

My personal gripe is red for the new Flame hair colour; I’ve tried all (?) red and some orange dyes and still couldn’t find anything that matched the Flame hair and Dark Asuran Weapons type of red, which is saturated, bright and orangeish instead of magenta.

If you also know a hair color which doesn’t have a perfect match – add it here along with the race and armour material.

I do not care which form the “expansion” takes: traditional boxed, DLC, paid, free – I think ANet did a great job with choosing relatively fair monetization policies in the past.

I simply expect a large bunch of new content – preferably open-world PvE zones, dungeons/fractals and skins. Maybe it’s just the result of the content being new and everyone doing it, but since there’s nothing else to do in the map when it’s up and the megaservers keep people together, I assume we will always have more than enough people to zerg stuff down without really needing to look at what specific bosses do at all.

Concerning topic title, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/List-of-Common-Controversial-Forum-Topics/first#openpvp

3. OPEN WORLD PvP / FACTIONS

[~] Threads for reference:

[+] Arguments in favour:

  • That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and enjoyed it.
  • We want competition. We can’t live without competition in games, a game without competition is boring and is not worth staying in.
  • We invested time/money in our gear, so we want our gear to matter. We do not like equalized stats in sPvP and we do not like zergs in WvW.
  • Separate PvP servers with PvE maps can be added to give PvP/PvE-focused people a choice.
  • Factions add a lot to both lore and gameplay.

[-] Arguments against:

  • GW2 is not that other game. GW2 is a cooperative game, not a competitive game: you don’t compete over loot, nodes and such. For competition, we have two options: sPvP and WvW. If current PvP/WvW game modes are not enough, you can always suggest new ones, but in the boundaries of competitive areas.
  • Open world PvP is detrimental. Different kinds of players exist: those who prefer fair and healthy competition, and those who prefer fierce and unhealthy competition. The first are usually peaceful non-hardcore teenagers and casual grown-up players (which turn out to be the target audience for which GW2 was actually designed in the first place, with all the timidness of content, failproofness and cooperativeness in mind), and the latter are usually aggressive teenagers who are using online games as a sublimation for unsatisfied offline desires of being “better” than others, while not being constrained by offline moral and law limits. This usually leads to offensive behaviour, which can already be seen in both PvP and WvW (with as far as death threat whispers); such things are not tolerated in GW2. Open world PvP attracts the second type of players, and since many mature players already live a moderately risky life, they see their games as a comfort zone to rest in, and not a war zone similar to life, and want GW2 to stay as is.
  • In GW2, not gear, but skill is what matters – even if it is the skill of finding the best team composition or the skill of using Skyhammer’s features in the cheesiest possible way. You cannot really buy ultimate superiority for money in this game. The most you can do is buy gems, convert to gold, get full ascended with infusions, eat the most expensive food, buy all gemstore buffs and go roaming in WvW, hoping that the slight boost in stats will outweigh the skill of your opponent.
  • Even on a separate server, you cannot simply turn a PvE map into a PvP map: it was not designed with it in mind. Furthermore, it will thin down and fracture the community, which contradicts with the Megaservers idea.
  • Factions are too hard to implement at this point of the game’s life when the basics have already been put in place. Factions are too hard to add with the current lore in mind.

[=] Current state of affairs:

  • A lot of people feel that GW2 is a casual friendly cooperative game which was not designed to have open world PvP, and they want it to remain that way. For competition, sPvP and WvW modes were included in the game. New PvP/WvW game modes, including GvG, with separate large maps, are discussed as valid options.
  • Comment from October 2012:

Anything is possible in the future, but I would be sure to not hold my breath waiting.

I checked the forums and wiki and didn’t see this posted anywhere yet and I thought others might be curious like I was.

Stuff like this is usually posted by Dulfy within several hours of the patch: http://dulfy.net/2015/01/13/gw2-jan-13-new-hair-and-eyes-colors-in-makeover-kit/

Still, thanks for the rat screenshots!

The Wynne scene… without giving spoilers, had a greater effect on me than any game has before.

With all due respect to story/audio, during that scene I was mainly staring at how polygonal the arms were and how poor close-up emotions looked. It reminded me of that Marjory-Kasmeer scene. Maybe they should start using hi-poly models for close-ups, or use some artistic interpretation?

Mesmer PvP Dailies Incredibly Rare

I suggest the OP looks into statistics at some point.

I studied statistics and I found 1 occurrence in a month with 2/8 success probability every day to be worth checking.

I do not think they’re RNG. I think they’re on a fixed rotation or semi-RNG, just like dailies used to be before the update.

Dye To Match The New "Flame" Hair?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Tried a lot of dyes yesterday on metal surface, but couldn’t find any that matches the new Flame hair colour. They’re either too magenta, too pale or too yellow; while this red has to be bright and with orange tint.

Anyone managed to find anything close already?

If not, can we get such a dye, please?

Waypoints: lessen their influence on travel?

an ungodly amount of teleports at my disposal

a mount

I knew it was a “mount” thread!

;)

On topic: against. I like that the game lets me play the game instead of wasting time on traveling. I’m even often not going to SW because of the “dedication” it requires.
