It’s been almost a year since I compiled the List of 150+ QoL Features, and since I like lists so much, I decided to go for a (personal) list of fixes/changes/features which I consider long overdue.

Feel free to compile your own lists in the comments (or support parts of mine). Seeing that some bits of changes actually do make it into the game after years of forum posts, I still hope it can make a difference.

Mesmer PvP Dailies Incredibly Rare

in PvP

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

My point is that your sample is no proof of bad randomness.

Because, indeed, it is not randomness, it is deliberately pre-picked to favour certain profession and punish others:

I assume that information on the wiki is based on data that was previously gathered – i.e. there is some pattern to it

Yes, we monitored the daily achievements since their introduction, and essentially, the dailies run on a fixed cycle where each day of the month maps to a fixed set of dailies, repeating every month. It’s actually how the dailies have been working for years.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2xnf7l/wiki_daily_achievements_preview_now_available/cp1zkks

But yeah, it’s still possible to get those results with randomness. But currently, RNG seems to dislike Mesmers and Necros, and really love Guardians, Thieves and Engineers with a passion. ^^

There’s like… an infinitely close to zero chance that over several months the exact dailies appeared on the exact days of the month. As if they were, you know… predefined.

Whoever was saying that profession dailies were pure RNG – come and say it again:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Daily/Table

  • The profession winner achievements are somewhat odd, introducing a real profession bias.
  • Most liked professions are Guardian, Thief, and Engineer (11 times a month)
  • Least liked are Mesmer and Necromancer (only 4 times each)

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2xnf7l/wiki_daily_achievements_preview_now_available/cp1o1d7

Professions – Frequency
Mesmer – 4
Necromancer – 4
Ranger – 6
Warrior – 7
Thief – 9
Elementalist – 9
Engineer – 10
Guardian – 11

Q: Was it an economy-based decision to not to reveal the locked dye UI update before the actual patch?

Not directly, but I have requested that we not prelease economy/market affecting data anymore and instead let it be discovered in patch and gameplay.

That’s really nice! The insider info talks and the early speculation from people who were lucky to be subscribed to certain youtubers (and not even official GW2 announcements) felt kind of disheartening. I was thinking of making a thread about it before the next patch – glad it already got addressed.

It is:

  • a cautious tribute to the original GW1 Raiment of the Lich outfit with black wings, which gives a solid ground vs. the anti-wing people
  • and checks whether they can proceed with other similar content and whether they can make more money from pro-wing players than irritate anti-wing players,

[Feedback] Lunar New Year

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

My feedback about Dragonball itself:

As a gamer who moved to GW2 after multiple Unreal Tournament incarnations, I find Dragon Ball highly frustrating to play.

  • Awful camera work – zooming in and out in cramped tunnels, randomly snapping to bridges.
  • No double jump.
  • No wall dodge.
  • Targeting.

I do understand why GW2 sticks to the usual concept of movement – developing more complicated movements for a single temporary PvP activity makes little sense, and teaching players to use those is no easy task.

Targeting is also a global game concept and yes, one can disable targeting at all, but the skills are designed with targeting in mind – however the recent changes to nearest enemy made targeting even worse than before, doubly so for such a dynamic fast-paced FPS-like game.

But my biggest gripe is camera. Okay, I’ll try using my asura, but… but that just shouldn’t work like it does. I cannot see what hits me or from where, I cannot properly aim because the camera goes back and forth.

So please, ANet: before you come up with something like this again, can we pleeease rework the camera and think of some kind of first person view or at least a no-character view and no-camera-snapping mechanics? Yes, I know it has problems of 1) people investing less in looks and 2) game looking not that good when zoomed in and 3) people performing poorly because they can’t see AoE markers designed for zoomed out camera and 4) those people demanding rework of the current combat tells, but many have asked for it for very valid reasons.

Add to that:

  • matchmaking
  • AFKers
  • no party with friends
  • buggy pickups (not picking for 2 seconds after spawned)
  • projectiles going through walls

Apart from that:

  • 2 DB games were frustrating enough, 1 could be okay. If the problems above were fixed, it could be fun, but not the way it was. I said “finally, no more!” in the last day of the festival.
  • There had to be another option apart from DB for the daily.
  • Fixed location firecrackers were a boring “come every day, press F” grind. If they were put around Tyria like pumpkins and magic snow, it would’ve felt more like fun – but a) it’s human stuff only, b) it requires more coding.
  • Launching a couple fireworks could be put into dailies. It’s cool looking, contributing to the atmosphere, fast and cheap (~50c).
  • Same with food. Cheap, fast, food sink and feels like a festival.

Lishtenbird.2814

Finally the stuff that people want from a fantasy game, and not some medieval hobosack from Queensdale!

Yes, they will be overused, but for the same reason as t3 human cultural light, t3 human cultural medium and flower hair are overused: there are not enough options which are equally cool. Want them gone? Give more equally cool options!

I’m a bit disappointed though that it’s not a legendary/ascended backpack which requires certain substantial achievements in a thematic zone to get it… But on the other hand, no boring SW scale of grind, yay!

My god, I do not want to play the month after these things hit gem store shelves… >.<

Don’t worry, you’ll be replaced by those who like wings, get back in and buy it to complete the look of their favourite character.

I hope “hide backpacks” option will come soon. Those wings are not belong to this game. Looks plain kittened.

I will be sure to come rage about capes when those get released. ’Cause, you know, both black wings and capes existed in GW1.

Changing Phantasms: -mancer/Stances/Traps

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I must say I love the way you envision the Mind Trapper mechanic wise. I wish I had something to add to it but if this replaced Phantasms but kept the visual effect or something or rather, ah, I would be very happy.

I’m now thinking about those as “domains” though, not “traps”

I restricted myself to the fact that these specializations would be tied to a weapon (if the weapon is unequiped or switched Specialization effects disapear) and that they would keep the current traits and utility. While maintaining these rules I still allowed me to slightly modify current mechanisms.

I would say it is too strict to be interesting enough; with dual weapon sets, that will also lead to a lot of confusion and programming issues.

While using warhorn, the singer can’t use any phantasm (this is a phantasmless weapon) but each time the singer charge a mantra, it’s clones will resonate dealing [small to medium value] aoe damage. And each time the singer consume one mantra charge, the clones will inflict around then a condition (cripple, bleed or vulnerability).

The “resonating at clone location” sounds fresh and interesting. That pushes us from the canon fodder clones to valuable half-independent AoE source.

The options were all there and no one needed a clone that stood still using an AA to do it, just a sharp mind, quick reflexes and practice.

I guess they want to make the class cooler, but it turned out that AI makes it both overpowered and subpar at the same time.

Considering that the gem store was already updated with new items, i doubt that we will get a patch today.

Everything in the gemstore is old. And we ran out of datamined items. And people report that toy golems appear out of thin air and no one’s spawning them.

Correction. You may not know who is spawning them, but the general source is known, and is player-based.

“People report that toy golems appear out of thin air” and “people report that no one’s spawning them”. The source might indeed be players, or it might be devs who’ve seen that bug earlier and left it to use as a tease later, or it might be a dev’s in mufti disinformation (since I haven’t seen anyone use that scepter anyway and assume it’s true). Anyway, we’ll know tonight.

Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

After reading many threads on trinity, I’m inclined to think that those advocating for it simply cannot cope with having to adapt and choose any role on the fly depending on the group and the encounter. They perceive freedom as shallowness, and they are dead set that “gear” equals “build”. They want to be handheld, spoonfed and pigeonholed so that they do not have to make their own thought-out decisions, and only then will they be happy… until the moment they realise that they’re back to waiting for healers and raging at dumb tanks and every fight looks like the other one, and even then it will be someone else’s fault and not the system’s.

So yes, I have no problems with “zerker meta” and yes, I do not complain about it on forums or in map chat.

Changing Phantasms: -mancer/Stances/Traps

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

It is common knowledge that because of PvP potential of mesmers (overrated – judging by their presence in high tier), PvE mesmers suffer a lot. The utility which is said to be their selling point is more or less useless in smaller groups where, say, an extra ele’s damage burst does way, way more for a smoother run than some extra reflections and CCs.

Here are several ideas on specialisations and GM traits which could help mesmers become something more than portal bots:

1) Illusion Mancer (sounds like a specialisation)

  • Illusions follow you around similar to necro minions (and engineer drones from the trailer).
  • Pre-casting can remove the damage backloading which doesn’t really let mesmer contribute in high-DPS groups where mobs die faster than phantasms do their job.
  • Like always, this will get PvP hate and a stamp of “cheesy braindead AI build”.

2) Lingering Phantasma (sounds like a GM trait)

  • Phantasms stick around for N seconds and target nearby mobs when the original target is dead. This is a lighter version of Illusion Mancer.
  • This helps dealing with large groups of (trash)mobs: once that single target dies, you’re ripped off the offence which caused the removal of your personal DPS during class “balancing” in the first place.

3) Phatasmal Stances (sounds like a specialisation)

  • Instead of casting a phantasm, you’re activating a stance that performs 2 phantasm’s attacks at your location: one immediately, and one more after the usual phantasm skill CD.
  • Think of ranger’s Maul to get the idea of how it looks.
  • You receive a stance buff icon when activating a stance.
  • These attacks are more powerful and scale with your % damage modifiers since you become their source.
  • This is a specialisation for illusion/pet unfriendly encounters.
  • Stances can be
    • traited for extra attacks
    • traited to allow for manual execution of extra attacks (similar to mantras)
  • This can be made more interesting by applying effects to all attacks while the stance is active; however, the whole concept can be ruined and rendered useless once it becomes another “just apply another stack of bleeding ‘cause that’s what Duelists do!” awesome idea.

4) Mind Trapper (sounds like a specialisation)

  • Instead of casting a phantasm, you’re putting an AoE targeted trap which performs the phantasm’s attack (with minor changes to allow for AoE effect) when triggered.
  • Think of necro’s Marks to get the idea of how it works and looks.
  • This deals with lack of AoE attacks.
  • Mind Traps can be
    • traited to be larger
    • traited to become invisible to foes (like ranger traps)

[Concept] Hammer Mesmer

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

We’ve given new and interesting purposes to current weapons. One of these weapons is the hammer, which you may think of as slow and physical. That’s not how the revenant uses it! Revenants use their powers to enhance the hammer in order to use it as a ranged weapon. That’s right—you’ll use these unique powers from the Mists to throw a magical hammer at foes, create massive zones of destruction, and preemptively control your foe.

“Slam the ground with your hammer, creating a cascading eruption of energy.”

This skill uses new tech that you’ll start seeing in many areas of our new specializations as well. It creates a cascading attack that starts at your character and extends forward over time. This specific skill’s damage increases with distance. This allows us to create very impactful attacks that have a lot more play to them for both yourself and the foes you use it against.

Field of the Mists

“Create a field from the Mists that blocks incoming projectiles in front of you.”

Again, this is brand-new, shiny tech. This skill creates a directional wall in front of your character, blocking incoming projectiles. Even better, it follows your character! While it’s active, the wall will always be in front of your character, moving around with you to protect you from those pesky rangers (unless they flank you).

Vengeful Hammers

“Invoke hammers to circle around you, damaging foes.”

I said there’d be frightening battle presence, and what does that better than hammers flying around your character? This is another upkeep skill. While it’s active, you have dwarven hammers spinning around your character and following your movements. They’re great for when you need to impose that extra pressure on your enemies.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/revenant-the-master-of-the-mists/

HAMMER: Drop the Hammer – This one is a ground targeted AOE knockdown. You target a large area, swing your hammer, and then a giant Mist hammer comes swirling out of the nether knocks everyone in that area down. It’s only got a 15 second cooldown for now, but a higher Energy cost… still, imagine this in WvW?

AXE: Frigid Blitz – This allows the player to hurl an ice axe through the air, chilling everyone (slowing them), and when it reaches the actual highlighted target you teleport to him and do a melee spinning attack that ends up behind the enemy, chilling him too. A key thing Jon noted is that you can use one Axe skill mentioned in the blog to pull together a clump of enemies, and then use this to go through them all and wind up at the rear-most one.

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/9418/page/2

This is why mesmers can’t have cool things.

Stronghold Will Ruin PvE Balance

in PvP

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

You’re seriously asking for balance in PvE? Are you really playing guild wars 2? There isn’t even any kind of “endgame” content in Guild Wars 2-PvE. And if you think about it, it’s way more important to balance pvp than pve. You can successful do everything in PvE with every single profession. Why would you destroy the pvp part (minority) just for the sake of trying to get some balance in PvE (which is literally impossible).

There’s no balance in PvE at all (Berserker > Condition), so please stop beeing myopic and trying to destroy the last bit of pvp in this game because you think PvE needs some balance.

If you’re talking about WvW it’s no difference at all. There’s no point in trying to balance gamemodes without any competion in them. If you really insist on trying to balance those zergfests….

A truck is balanced around how good it can deliver goods from point A to point B. Not around how good it can be smashed in a Monster Truck show.

A race car is balanced around how fast it can go through X laps. Not around how cool its 1:43 scale model will look among others.

A game with 90% of PvE content, gem-unlocked Living Story and visual skins in Gemstore should be balanced around the most paying customers who keep the development running. Not around a group of players who turn “standardized models” on and never check the new content which is being regularly released.

That’s business logic and common sense.

The only conclusion would be to totally seperate PvE, PvP and WvW. But you can’t do this, because some people might get “confused” about minor differences between the gamemodes. Kappa.

And that is the problem of the minority. One can’t make all mice in the world left-handed just because seeing two different type of mice is “confusing”.

And some others are just too strong when having to stay in the node is not required.

…and this is where not-on-node fighters get nerfed into oblivion, and the whole PvE with next to no CC requirements gets its damage cut again.

Stronghold Will Ruin PvE Balance

in PvP

Lishtenbird.2814

…as well as build diversity across all game modes.

  • The new Stronghold game mode, while put into the Conquest queue, is highly advertised by ANet and is getting a lot of attention from players.
  • Meta builds for Stronghold will be different from Conquest builds.

Assaulter —This player clears the way of enemy players, trebuchets, and NPC guards, giving doorbreakers a clear shot at the gate. A high-damage build for bursting down NPCs being healed by defending players and the ability to go one-on-one are a must. Smuggler —Smugglers gather supply and spend it at the barracks. They keep an eye on which unit best suits the current situation and then send that unit down the offense lane. Swiftness, stability, and evasion are a big help when gathering and running supply, but be prepared for a team fight at the supply depot when being quick and sneaky isn’t enough. Smugglers will also be well positioned to compete against enemy players to channel mist essence and call forth a hero, thus possibly turning the tide of a battle. Shepherd —The shepherd meets up with units spawned by the smuggler and shepherds them up the lane to where the assaulters are keeping the lane clear. This is a role perfectly suited for players who love to play support. They keep their doorbreakers moving, buffed, and—most importantly—alive as they protect them in face-to-face confrontations against enemy defenses. Defender —The defender’s job is to stop the enemy and their doorbreakers from breaking down their gate and advancing. You can play a high-damage dueling build to kill the enemy assaulters and shepherds in order to pick off doorbreakers as they come through, or you can take a more defensive approach and focus on keeping your guards alive so they can stop doorbreakers in their tracks. Trebuchet Master —The trebuchet master operates their team’s trebuchet in order to rain fiery death on assaulters, shepherds, troops, and anyone else who dares approach their stronghold. They also exert control on distant parts of the map, such as the strategically important supply depot. An effective trebuchet master must be prepared to fight duels to maintain area control and prevent opposing players from summoning a hero to gain the upper hand. Roamer —The roamer is a jack-of-all-trades. This role is for the generalist who fills in wherever needed, in any number of situations, by bouncing constantly between lanes, the supply depot, and hero channels to fight enemy players all over the map. Slayer —This player tries to break apart and destroy other player roles. They hunt down players who are smuggling, shepherding, defending, or manning trebuchets to wipe them out while mostly ignoring NPCs.

  • ANet insists on balancing PvE, WvW and PvP together.
  • Builds which are too good get continuous attention from the PvP community, resulting in balance changes across the whole game.
    • Example problem: a certain amulet is “too good” on two certain classes in Conquest. Example solution: nerf Might across the whole game and all 3 game modes, along with runes and sigils, affecting all players and discouraging highly organised synergetic play.
    • Example problem: mesmers are “too good” in confusing low-skill players in skirmish scenarios. Example solution: nerf all potential damage output on mesmers and render them next to useless or easily replaceable in all 3 game modes.
  • Users are already discussing nerfs to stealth because of Stronghold, and the same will happen with stability/immunity and heavy CC builds.
  • This will result in all game modes getting a very limited set of efficient builds, with all previously marginally efficient builds getting nerfed because of their over-efficiency in a certain niche situation which was destined to have more public attention at the moment, with PvE – the major part of the game – obviously drawing the short straw.

Flameseeker prophecies to be subpar in HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For one, mesmers will be able to use shields (off-hand only, I guess, main-hand sounds unlikely), so that’s a new point to make it better (provided that shield mesmers aren’t nerfed to the ground because ESPORTS and PORTAL AND CLONES OP PLS NERF).

But IIRC off-hand only legendaries have always been subpar, and I’m not sure if they ever gonna add new effects. More so, the new legendaries might be themed to the new specializations (like the druid Raven staff teaser), so mesmers will get a mesmery shield and no one would care about the old shield.

On the other hand, for me as a forum user, it also means I don’t have prejudices about specific personalities. That’s good.

This is great! Thanks for sharing it. Here’s another recording, just vocals, through a webcam mic ‘cause it’s all I have set up here, with a few of the lyrics altered a bit. Thanks again! It was fun.

Edit: Whoops! I said “the graveling burrow” instead of “a.” I didn’t mean to change that part of that lyric!

Thanks, I really like it! No music, but I feel several lines are better than in the other version. The ending made me burst in laughter, well done

I particularly like the burrow line, can go for plural as I intended actually in this variant:

When the graveling burrows pop,
Use skill 4 and watch them drop

I also like the

And don’t CC the boss now, please

change – it feels smoother. Thanks!

Nomad’s, though, has accent on “o”, so I guess the original line is better.

Dragon Ball Could Be OK With 1st Person View

As a gamer who moved to GW2 after multiple Unreal Tournament incarnations, I find Dragon Ball highly frustrating to play.

  • Awful camera work – zooming in and out in cramped tunnels, randomly snapping to bridges.
  • No double jump.
  • No wall dodge.
  • Targeting.

Hey, guys, look what I just found:
There’s an Ice Bow on the ground!
It is so cool and shiny,
It is saying ‘Try me, try me!’

When engaging in a fight,
Let the ele prestack might,
And do not CC boss, please:
Let the ele use [Deep Freeze]!

When the mobs are tightly packed
And your group is corner stacked,
Use skill 4 and then skill 3
For an awesome killing spree!

When the boss just knocks and smacks,
Remove all five [Defiant] stacks,
Get Ice Bow, use skill 5 -
Save a fellow zerker’s life!

When you see a graveling burrow,
Use skill 4, unleash the horror!
When Tequatl’s stunned and dazed,
Stick Ice Bow in his face!

Blast light fields and camp the bear,
Wear Nomad’s, flower hair…
But for sake of all Six Gods:
5, 4, 3 and then discard!

P.S.

Hey, guys, look what I just found:
There’s a Hammer on the ground!
It is so lightnin’ shiny,
DON’T YOU EVER TOUCH THAT THING!

[Suggestion] Dye our commander tags!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I see your point- if there’s more choice, there will be a smaller chance of having the exact same colour, right?

My theory though, is that given a choice, players will stick to their favourite colour that they’ve found and not want to change it, even when it makes the most sense to. I imagine this problem mostly with pink tags for some reason.

Right now, as far as I’m aware, there isn’t much content that requires more than 4 tags. Coincidentally, there are 4 different tag colours. As commanders tag up at Teq, for example, the last people to tag customarily chose the tags that haven’t already been taken.

Allow people to have a “favourite” tag colour that they get attached to and people will start bickering. Right now the tag colours are neutral in the sense that they have been chosen for you already.

I see your point too, but the current system doesn’t stop me in any way from sticking to other colors. If I’m the only tag (or it’s not organised), I still use the “character theme color”, like purple on mesmer and so on. If it is organised and we need different colors, I will still change it anyway.

Custom colors have another benefit: if the “character theme color” of the commander matches the tag, it’s easier to distinguish and follow that commander.

Trade Box-trading alternative suggestion

Lishtenbird.2814

My summary of the 1000 other P2P threads:

[+] Arguments in favour:

  • That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and used it.
  • Adding it won’t hurt anyone, only help people who do not want to waste money on TP tax.
  • Direct trading will make people happier because the RNG factor of rare items will be a bit offset by easier acquisition.
  • Spamming should not be a problem: ANet can create a “trading” channel in chat to deal with spam.

[-] Arguments against:

  • That other game also has massive trading spam and out-of-whack economy.
  • It will hurt everyone. Gold sink is what keeps inflation low in game economies where gold is generated out of thin air; the Trading Post tax is that major gold sink. Remove the gold sink, and you’ll be the one crying about how everything is getting more and more expensive.
  • Any system which can be ignored, will be ignored. People will turn off the trading channel because of the WTB/WTS spam, and people will keep spamming in map/say/whisper chat. No matter what you do, real players will be hurt more than spammers (message suppression is already bad enough at organised world events).
  • The TP tax encourages you to play for your items yourself instead of buying them. It is good for the game community.
  • You are not disallowed to trade via mail – you’re just doing it at your own risk; mail trade frauds will be reviewed by Support and scammers will be suspended/banned, but the items/gold won’t be returned.

[=] Current state of affairs:

  • There is a considerable amount of people who think that player to player trading will hurt more than help.

A recent thread on the topic: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Personal-Trading

The problem with adding multiple shades of one colour is that it then becomes difficult to distinguish commanders apart at a glance, if there are multiple on a map.

I imagine it going something along the lines of this:
“Champ at green”
“Which green? There are 4?”
“Dark green!”

The alternative is those 4 green being identical:

“Champ at green”
“Which green? There are 4?”
“Ehm… Wait a moment, I’ll check his name…”
