If you want to role play a dungeon, transfer to TC and join an RP guild and run dungeons with people who pretend to be surprised by the Spider Queen when it pops out the first time they run AC on a new character.

Haha, it always amuses me what people think goes on in TC.

Not that. I’ve never even heard of RP in a dungeon, the RPers generally stick to out of the way places and if you didn’t think to look for them you’d barely even know they were there.

Plus, as dungeons are cross-server and TC is a highly populated world, you’ve probably been in dungeons with TC players many, many times. Some of them might even role-play.

I think it’s fair to use “zerker” as a catchall for any mix of Assassin and Berserker gear though.

Somehow I think Romo is just as opposed to this as well however, because these remain purely offensive stats.

I thought Romo’s only point was that new players who don’t really know their class in berserkers can be a bad thing… Which, sure, can be debated. But I think it depends on the pug. If you have AH guards and “support” specs around you, and a single pug who doesn’t know how to dodge is in berserkers, it can spell trouble for the group. Granted, these things wouldn’t happen in gear checked pugs, but I guess it’s possible that it could happen?

I use Assassins on my new ranger because I’m too much of a scrub to afford Berserker.

I’ll be honest, I’m bad. I have my berserker set and use it the majority of the time, but there are times I have to slip into my Soldiers gear so I don’t… Fall on my face and embarrass myself.

I don’t know, if you have good luck, use the forge. I have good luck with staves. I throw in staves, and twice I’ve gotten the Legend. That’s good luck from what I hear.

I think I would give yourself a gold limit. And once you’ve spent, say 100g, and not gotten anything, start saving and not do the forge. See if you have luck. It’s worth a shot

I never really got what people hate so much about Karka. Those small standard ones have low health pools but high burst projectiles which can be used to make them kill themself rather quickly, so those wouldn’t be that much of a problem in a dungeon.

And those big ones? Well, you don’t have to put millions of them into it … just 1 – 2. And they’ll probably be skippable so who cares about them.

This game just needs several new, good kitten dungeons (while all existing ones shall get revamped, hohohoho) and Southsun Cove would really profit from one (if it is any good ) as it is, in my opinion, a nice zone. It’s been a year now. Steal some boss ideas from other MMOs, Souls-Games, Metroid Prime or whatever, but just doing it right once in a while would be great. /rant

Really excellent post. I’m not at this point yet, because I was forced to give up most of my time due to graduating from college and getting a job, but I think you point out a lot of really interesting flaws (?) in the game design. The grind for ascended gear I think is a huge one. I have decided to be a hipster and just not do it. But in 4 months if people don’t play with me because I lack the proper gear, I guess I’ll either quit or have to spend more time and gold than I want to making the crap.

I loved the Secret of Southsun too. And Zephyr Sanctum. I haven’t participated in much else in terms of Living Story…. I felt like too much of it was so out of place and so focused on grinding out achievements that it felt forced and unfun. Like Tequatl. That could have been an amazing event, but what it turned into was a stressful festival of trying to join overflows so you could join a server that was actually organized enough to kill him. There could have been some intense lore, or a whole new dragon, but instead the old Tequatl was deleted and now I never see anyone in a once heavily populated area. Splintered Coast is always contested, and the shores are permanently poisoned. I guess it’s true, it is a living changing world, but so much was taken, I feel like, to make room for unfun releases (tafu too).

I don’t know. I hope once this LS is wrapped up, we get to move on to things more like the original bits of the LS where we got new areas, new enemies, new fun without taking away old fun, and getting fun cosmetic items and not vertical stat progression.

Quite straightfoward. You build for damage. So all damage modifiers, crtidmg and might for your pet (you should aim for at least perma 15-25 stacks of might on it ), and the 70% change of triggering on frost spirit.
Frost spirit has no icd, so it’s broken coupled with a fgs. The 70% chance guarantees a remarkable damage boost. Fortifying bond is a must.
Other traits, eh… You could go 20 marksmanship and 25 nature magic but I can’t think of any other decent trait combination. I tried but I think that for now his combo is the best one. kitten theorycrafters.
Unfortunately, there’s not much trait flexibility, unlike guardian. I never swap my traits but the last one in marksmanship.
Sword skills do share the cooldown, even if you swap. If they’re on cd, they stay on cd. Same for every profession.
You should aim for this mini “rotation”: 4 5 warhorn or 5 first if you’re using it to blast a field (yes it’s a blast), swap to axe, check if you need the 5 or the vulnerability, if not, autoattack. Oh, 4 does quite a nice damage and is a decent pull skill.
Anything else?

So it doesn’t change the name of the ring, just the stats.

I’m not sure if you can have 2 circles with different stats, but you can definitely have the circle and the ring of red death.

Hey guys. I finally finished leveling my ranger. She was the first character I made, but I hated the class.
I’m looking to bring her into dungeons, so I need a build. I have berserkers and assassins gear so far, but trait wise and skill wise I’m at a loss. I was hoping for some advice, both gameplay wise and theory wise.

I plan on using sword / war horn but I don’t have a clue what the second weapon set should be. Halp?!

And, yes, you may not notice since no one does a healing power char, but on my elementalist the auto-attack is the best heal I have (1000+ AoE, fast as hell!)

Yes but the OP is using an Assassin inscription which is just a regular crafted inscription.

You should always let your party know that you’re new to a dungeon. This means that the experienced players can guide you. You might be able to just follow along, but sometimes knowing the tactic can prevent party wipes and lengthening the run, which isn’t too fun.

In dungeons, the meta is DPS. The way the game is structured, support builds take away from the party in dungeons. They do not scale right. For instance, specing for healing will not benefit the party as much as one might think it should, as it will do minimal healing and as it stands every class has it’s own heal. This being said, boons for party members are handy, so always have that idea in your head.

Typical times will depend on the dungeon. Some are quick, like citadel of flame path 1 and 2, around 10-15 minutes, while others, like, Arah can be more like an hour in a casual group. It really depends on the group set up, path, and experience.

My advice is to go in with an open mind and a good attitude. Good teams can be hard to find in pugs, but I know when I first started, a cheerful group can make the difference between having fun and being sad you wasted your time. Overall, apart from the dungeon path gold at the end, dungeons won’t be as rewarding as champion train farming, but it is fun and challenging content, and a great way to meet cool people.

Anyone else discover the reason for how Tixx is able to wear human male cultural armor when he is an asura? Tixx should have his clothes removed against his will and human males should be in an uproar over their cultural armor being used on a non-human even if it is an NPC.
