Hunting AR in BB borders tonight has been fruitfull!! So far my kill count is as follows, level 62 Engie 3 – AR Level 80 PLayers 0. Some very nice fights including me killing a commander from the XYZ guild who I found roaming around, that was perhaps the sweetest kill of the evening!

I personally am getting tired of fighting AR all the time, although you do provide me with some happy times. Since my mains are boring as sin at the moment, I’ve been taking my level 61 Engi into WvW and killing mutlitple level 80 frenchies, particular highlights were the 2 × 2v1 and the 3v1 ALL level 80’s, honestly some of you are so bad it’s hardly worth the effort!! You either run or die to an uplevelled Engi.

If your red your dead, it’s PvP irrespective of whatever spin you try and put on it, if your doing PvE in the WvW area, I’m going to kill you. I won’t wave at you and let you carebear it up, I’ll kill you then sit on your head.

I see so many complaints against confusion, it’s mind boggling that so many of you seem to struggle with this condition. I have NO problems handling confusion on ANY of my characters. It’s simple:

Pay attention to the conditions being applied to you
Don’t waste whatever cleanses you have IF you are fighting an opponent with a lot of condition damage
DON’T MINDLESSLY SPAM ABILITIES.

If a Mesmer (for example) dumps 7 stacks of confusion on I either cleanse or just wait it out. Don’t spam, don’t dodge roll. Just let them stand there looking at you. Confusion is awesome for catching people unawares, it punishes lazy players who feel they don’t need to watch what conditions are being applied.

Rather than calling for nerfs, learn about the condition being applied and counter by…well how can I put it…not being bad :p

Please tell me it’s not true, are Red Guard (the ultimate elitist server hopping guild) heading back to Piken Square? I really, really, really hope not.

Yep, all the new patch will do is encourage more and even bigger groups for easy rank farming. Nothing to encourage or reward smaller groups and nothing to encourage defending an objective. You might as well let them take it and then just cap it back for points.

Since they rightly or wrongly changed it so cata’s no longer damage rams through gates, they have made it even harder to defend a keep / tower against superior numbers. What’s the point in upgrading keeps/towers to re-enforced gates when it’s so difficult to defend those gates. You can’t go near it to repair as you just get instantly killed by the insane amounts of AoE splash damage.

Basically there is nothing to help players defend something, so most don’t bother.

I still love my Mesmer in WvW, no other profession allows me to harass people as much as my Mesmer. I’ve been having particular fun with confusion bombing groups with my trusty old sceptre, it’s a bit tricky lining the beam up, but if you get it right…oh happy days!

And I still love watching spammers (especially thieves) blow themselves up Although I have many professions I can WvW with, my Mesmer still gives me the most fun, so until that changes, I’ll be ruining peoples day for a long time

AR…you blob up like no other, if I could get image-shack working I’d post screenshots of your bazillion player zergs, honestly gob-smacked!!! For me anyway with the latest patch , it shows up all players in front of me, no more phantom zergs, so that’s a good change from aNet.

But I can honestly say I have never seen more players grouped up in a mega-zerg like that before, so hat’s off for the good old “group up steam-roll mentality”, honestly…if you ever go up to the higher tiers, I think you will fit right in.

So I take it WvW is still down?? Since I can’t get in and there is just some random message about joining people in a group…

I have met some very good AR players and some very bad one’s, but the mentality of your server sucks, you basically either a) Blob up and zerg around the map or b) Only attack when you outnumber someone. I really wish we could get another match-up so I can have some interesting fights, against opposition that don’t start immediately running away. My particular favourite tonight was the 7v1 fight I got myself into, where 6 of you ran off after I downed that GC thief that just stood there like a tree, amazingly bad. AR players do this more than any other server I’ve played against, they all have the same weird mentality, maybe it’s a French thing.

I think it just boils down to the fact, that because you spend so much time blobbing up, that you don’t know how to do small scale or even 1v1, 2v1, 3,v1 fights and just run, straight away, then turn around when friendlies appear, which just makes for horrible, un-fun PvP.

I just had a wonderful conversation with a thief that was attacking me in WvW, he thinks he’s a pro thief because he’s only visible for brief periods of time, I explained, that as of next week, Mr Pro Thief is going to get a very, very rude awakening

I’m about done with this game, my guild has left and honestly I don’t care if they add a PVE levelling system to WvW. No one who PvP’s cares about that kind of rubbish, the things we do care about go ignored. Zergs are still favoured over any organised smaller groups and it’s just not fun anymore, for me anyway. Not to mention the 30+ people I used to regularly WvW who would now rather play other games or just do other stuff than log into GW2, I think I’m with them on this one.

I would love to know how the outmanned buff is calculated, because we just lost Greenbriar in Gan BL to 50+ AR and there were maybe 8-12 of us defending.

New Elite ability: Mantra of Swiftness

When charged, the Mantra passively adds 25% movespeed. Readies 2 charges of 4s Quickness with a 4s cooldown. Mantra has a 90s cooldown.

This actually is a really good suggestion, would be good if it wasn’t an elite, since most classes get this from normal utilities and don’t have to give up an elite.

I use Air Runes, Blink and even swapped to the mirror heal to try and get that little bit of extra speed….If my blink iLeap combo fails, which it does regularly anyone can get away from me bar another Mesmer.

I don’t even bother trying to chase players anymore unless they run into water, if they go in water I can catch them with spear skills, which is nice. However on the ground….not a chance, very frustrating.

It hit home how horrifically slow my Mesmer is, when I tried chasing down an up levelled guardian, I managed to get a few CC’s on him when he got into the water, but when he managed to get onto land, I did blink, iLeap which failed, he popped retreat and just tore off into the distance lol

AR your zerging and gank squad abilities never cease to amaze me!! Highlights so far tonight was single-handily re-routing that 20+ Zergball that decided it was more important to chase my level 21 Warrior 1/2 way across the map instead of pushing onto that tower you were supposed to be capping!!!! Awesome, I just wished I frapsed it lol

Oh and a special mention to those 5 man plus gank squads that just sit at the sentries of borderlands ganking random uplevelled players, really shows your skill set off!!!

It’s not all bad though, I had the pleasure of duelling am AR Mesmer / Thief and Ele late last night who amazingly didn’t like to zerg and had some serious skill, hat’s off to those guys!!

Gandara have certainly improved a lot from our first match up, well done on the win this week

Honestly I am confused. They are nerfing shatter builds based off…what? Shatters can be avoided, I run at least one CC breaker on any of my WvW toons precisely for situations where a player lines me up to telegraph burst i.e. 100b warriors, Shatter Mesmers etc…In the past week, I think I’ve only been hit once by a shatter Mesmer, other times I CC break, dodge roll, block etc… There are multiple counters.

They should not be nerfing abilities that take at least some degree of timing and skill to line up and execute, they just seem to further toning down the game for people (likely casuals) who don’t use cantrips or counters of any kind or don’t bother to dodge and then get walloped by a Mesmer Shatter / Blurred Frenzy bomb that you can avoid.

As for the GS1 changes I hope GS still retains viability as a ranged weapon, it’s the only real one we have. Is this just an indirect way of nerfing Power builds that use GS??

Couple this with the proposed changes to stealth, honestly I am disappointed. I play a stealth heavy Mesmer build for WvW which I absolutely love, I happen to use GS and Sceptre with Torch Off-hand.

I don’t really know what to think about the stealth changes, but it just seems to me that aNet don’t really know what to do with thieves and Mesmer’s are getting caught up in their attempts to fix thieves by changing the way stealth works

Probably.. but one cool thing I was playing around with is deceptive evasion while cloaked.. you form clones while cloaked so that could be pretty deceiving.

I use this all the time, works very well couple with stealth. Seeing as stealth drops their target, they often target the clone leaving me to either escape or re-position for attack.

No you will see him CLEANSING, any good ele will be running enough cantrips and cleansing to completely negate condition damage, I know this because I used to run it on my Ele. And that is the problem, water as it is gives an Ele too many ways of clearing conditions, with the 3 cantrip cookie cutter build, you have:

Cleanse when you switch to water
An on demand cleanse when you use a cantrip
Cleanse on dodge roll with Cleansing water
Cleanse from the Glyph heal OR Ether Renewal.

Your essentially immune to CC (You have 3 very good stun breakers/mobility tools), you negate burst with the nature of this build, you can put out some pretty decent self healing, not too shabby DPS and you have mobility, it’s too much in one package and needs balance. This is coming from the perspective of someone who has played D/D Ele from beta and stopped playing my Ele about a month ago, it just feels to imbalanced.

Hopefully aNet will review and tone down the amount of cleansing Eles can do and that way condition damage could be a viable counter.

Well I am tired of GETTING HIT FROM THIEVES THAT I CANNOT SEE, I think it kind of balances things out As long as you thieves can still hit me when I cannot see you, anything that ruins your day will make me smile. This post will probably get blocked/deleted +1 it while you can!!

This game caters for those players who just want to play whatever is OP/FOTM at the time, anyone can roll a new character, scour the forums for whatever cookie-cutter build is popular at the time and head into sPvP.

You will always see multiples of whatever is FOTM, aNet allows this and THAT is the problem. It also highlights that certain professions even after numerous nerfs are still THE best at sPvP and aNet does not know how to balance it’s game.

What next? Remove Sigils? Runes? Legs?

Guess what, other people can use nourishments to, if someone else is too lazy to bother crafting/buying food to buff themselves, then it is their own fault. Don’t suggest removing something which allows some kind of diversity/flexibility with builds just because other players are too lazy to use them themselves or you think it makes things OP when it doesn’t.

It will bring the final nail in the coffin for a lot of people who will realise, they cannot fix culling, cannot fix the skill lag and that adding a few achievements to WvW will not paper over the cracks enough to make people stay.

The combination of skill-lag (which is getting worse) and culling has finally pushed me away from the game, I was the last surviving member of my WvW guild, hanging on lol. Maybe it will be fixed in the WvW march update, personally I am not holding my breath!!

‘Great fights’ is a bit of an exaggeration in my opinion. There has been some fun to be had but the good fights between similar numbers on either side have been very few and far between.

Sorry Loco to disappoint you.. We will make it more interesting next time and put up 8 catapults so you dont have to wait so long to “picking off our members + pugs”.
And dont blame us when you dont have the numbers to fight back and have to hide in the tower. We just taking back what´s belong to us. And you where just 4 jumping on the walls so why should we even try to engage you…?? Now we gave you a chanse to run instead of giving us some badges.

I had a really nice fight with one of your members earlier, a ranger who actually knew how to play, felt bad though cos an AR zerg turned up and ruined the fight

I’m finding more bugs, for example Arcane Thievery sometimes does not work at all and someone else has explained that channel abilities will continue to hit you when your stealthed, I certainly take full damage from the ability that’s hitting me.

I run a stealth heavy build and sometimes my stealth abilities don’t work at all, I am definitely not under the revealed buff either, I think this has started happening more frequently since the recent patch. It seems to have caused numerous bugs with the profession, anyone else feel like they are still playing a beta at times? :P

It’s defo not out of range, I use the range indicator on the skills on all of my abilities to make sure I don’t waste anything, I also traited into Far Reaching manipulations to increase it’s range to 1200.

It’s useful for me to help chase down runners, as I’m incredibly slow, so if someone tries to run, I can arcane thievery, steal there swiftness or transfer cripple etc… It’s just incredibly buggy on use.

I had not considered null field, it seems to me that you need to make a decision with it whether to cleanse yourself OR strip boons from a target, Arcane Thievery just seems a better options as I get the best of both, if and when it works.

In a bid to get some sort of condition removal in my build, I’ve started using Arcane Thievery. Now, I am not sure if I misunderstand the skill, but assuming I have NO conditions on me, can I use it to steal 3 of my target’s boons? Or will it fail with no conditions on myself?

I get the general feeling it’s buggy, sometimes I use it with conditions on myself and nothing happens, I still have conditions and the target still has boons, so either it is an iffy utility or as I’ve stated above, I’m using it wrong.

I happens regularly against this server or servers with this zerg mentality, with their sheer number advantage, I’m often getting chased across maps by 10+ AR :p I was on late last night (last day of holiday) and AR used 15 golems to take Piken BL un-contested :p That’s right, 15….

From what I have read/heard, Anet is working really really hard to improve WvW. Things just take time, apparently they are updating the engine to get rid of the culling. That takes tons of time.

The March update will contain tons of new things for WvW. So I don’t know where you get this idea.

I don’t think it will be enough. I looked at what is meant to be coming and I don’t think it will be enough to keep people playing. We will have to wait and see about culling being fixed, it is a massive problem in a game like this. As for WvW titles and progression, again not enough to keep people interested. They need to add things like methods to get Ascended gear via WvW, unique WvW skins armours apart from Invaders, etc… etc… Adding a title that most people either don’t turn on (i.e. Mesmer, I won’t / can’t turn on achievements on my Mesmer as it makes it easier for players to spot me) or just don’t care about won’t get aNet very far.

So has your data been compromised?? How are people in China getting my log on details? I can assure you I do not goto dodgy sites and give them my logon details for GW2, so the obvious answer is you have had a breach.

Torch is inferior to our other choices. Maybe off hand sword is closer to how bad torch is.

But pistol and focus are much better then torch and the really crappy damage. I have solid stealth already with two other abilities.

It depends on your build playstyle, I use torch in WvW and have done for a while now. My current build is: 20 Dom, 20 Duelling and 30 chaos, I use hidden veil, decoy, blink and mass invis. I use cleansing conflagration, so my torch skills remove conditions and they are on a shorter cooldown. So this gives me, 4 seconds of stealth that clears conditions, AoE blind and AoE burns if I use it offensively. I also get a defensive boon with Prismatic Understanding.

Yes the iMage sucks, but he give’s me retaliation, confusion on my target which is useful and I also get a condition cleanse. It would be nice if the iMage was swapped form something that does direct damage, like the iRogue when your downed, that would be more in line with the torch as a “stealthy” type weapon.

I think off-hand torch is far, far from useless. Torch has saved me or given me the advantage more times than I can count, I personally think it’s a pretty good off-hand, just let down by the iMage.

All my toons are bunkers of some sort for WvW and they are built this way purely to counter thieves. Thieves by far do the most damage to any of my toons when I’m checking my combat log, even my “tankier” builds still have high damage numbers from thief abilities. As much as I would like to there is no way I would be able to run out full zerker, i’d be downed in 1-2 seconds by thief’s…

And surely it’s a problem in itself if the majority if players are running bunkers just so they don’t get killed by one profession….

Can we at least find out if this is just a bug or it’s an intended change?? And has a dev even responded yet to what is a pretty big bug? I noticed they jumped on prestige being glitched but no word on this? I really, really hope it’s not intended because bad players can’t spot the real Mesmer…

I have played D/D ele since early beta, I have never, never, never EVER lost a 1v1 (or 2v1) against a Staff Ele in either WvW or sPvP, never. I regard them as free kills, probably yourself included. This is not an insult to your abilities, I am sure you do very well as a staff Ele, I just know you would never be able to beat a competent D/D Ele in a 1v1, from experience.

Big 20+ vs 20+ fights factor in less skill than smaller scale engagements. All it involves is discipline and running certain builds that benefit large zergy blobs. I’ve watched RG and other guilds in action, they look like a group of bots. No individuality, it’s just timings of portals, mass invis / hidden veils (to get an advantage from culling) and then spamming AoE. Sure some reactive play may come into it if people want to try and use reflection heavy techniques or confusion bombing. But mostly it boils down to0…who can AoE the most, or who can gain the advantage from the quite frankly broken rendering engine.

But, whatever floats your boat. I personally don’t get the whole follow the blue dot like a robot thing, but some people obviously do get enjoyment from it. But then again, I’ve moved off Piken with some other guilds and am now enjoying less zergy smaller scale engagements.

But best of luck to those still on Pikey, it’s just a shame it’s become so zergy.

This is what I do when I gate confusion stacks on me…STOP SPAMMING ABILITIES. Jesus, how bad must some people be, to start a thread like this. Confusion is easily countered by being even vaguely aware of what conditions you have on you.

Elementalist still lacks the most important component for the accomplishment of its individuality: “punch”. It’s versatile, but it lacks punch.
Also, mobility is useless when you have the damage output of a fly.

If you don’t feel godlike, then you simply cannot play this profession.

Just from your statements, it show’s you have NO clue about what an Elementalist actually is. You say “Boons and healing power are what the class is about”. I don’t know where to start on how wrong that statement is. Elementalists mechanic is ATTUNEMENT SWITCHING. The healing power + boons are a result of the D/D spec, accessories and the popular boon stacking from runes

Of course mobility matters, if I have permanent vigor, almost permanant swiftness (perma regen). And I can dodge roll out at will or use one of 3 cantrips to negate damage, that means that your not hitting me and you can’t telegraph your burst on me. It also means that I can engage/disengage at will with very, very little fear of actually being caught or killed.

I’ve played D/D Ele since early beta, I have never bothered with staff I have played basically the same build since beta and before it became FOTM I was able to fight against many, many players and win. I’ve said ages ago that the build needs toning down, not the profession.

Leave the skills as they are, downgrade the scaling on healing power and change boons so they cannot be stacked as a permanent buff and should be used as they are intended, which is a short term buff.

Oh and tone down some of the food buffs too for all professions.

it nerfs 30 water cantrip builds of the following:

- no more access to regen outside of water attunement
- 3 fewer condition removals.

it’s a small tweak that will make a world of difference where it matters without gutting elementalist group utility.

Thanks for sharing this build!!! I’ve done some WvW tonight on this and had an awesome time. I run with 6 x Air Runes (the lighting strike proc is really quite nice), Sw/P + Sceptre/Torch, I just really like having the CC from the off-hand pistol (since most people run from me) and I’m not convinced an off-hand sword is just for me yet :P

I use Decoy/Mirror Image/Blink and Mass Invis for my utils/elite. I had a blast with this tonight, I really did. Even though the stealth is only a short duration, it does enough to break lock on me and confuse the people chasing me. Or give me breathing space to get a clutch heal off, I love it!

Highlights have been winning a 3v1 Solo capping a supply camp with a necro trying to defend it and managing to escape from 2 x Thieves who were harassing our poor dolys :P

Vapour Form is our downed Skill (#2)
Mist Form is a can trip (Skill utility)

Vapor Form* That thing shouldn’t be restoring downed HP after each use and im surprised that it does after almost 6 months.

I spell it vapour due to my country.

Furthermore, each use of vapour form puts another downed penalty on us, so in case of rally we will have very low HP and easy kills.
Secondly, vapour form has no cool down before use meaning if you press 2 just before being downed you will have wasted our only viable downed skill (shocking spell sucks….bbbbaaadddllyy, i don’t even press it, that bad of a skill……warrior rocks do more damage than it…rocks!?)

Okay lets say we’re both downed at same time and no1 is around to pick you or me up. Im spamming my autos (any class) and wait for skill 3 to recharge while losing health spamming skill 1 hoping to win while downed. You can Vapor form a corner (where my attacks can’t reach you) and fully regen then finish me off. That would make an ele win against any classes but warrior. But even a warrior has a penalty, he dies after his skill 3, nothing much happens after vapor form

And a Mesmer can have 3 phantasms/clones up and pew pewing the Ele, a Thief can also teleport (and stealth) to block line of sight and Engi can pull the Ele towards them with that horrible grapple skill.

Back to D/D ele i don’t have a problem against a d/d ele (at least on mesmer) BUT i do have problem with eles removing condi as much as they do. From all the things a d/d ele can do the condi removal is what should be looked at first, then regen/protection spam and another thing that is ridiculous is mist form fully restoring your downed state HP after each use and it can be used quite often.

So completely nerfing water is where it’s at now is it?? Honestly the nerf ele bandwagon has certainly gained momentum!! I have NO PROBLEM killing D/D Ele’s, maybe learning how to counter that predictable spec is too much for you??

It’s hacking. I frapsed a warrior moving in the exact same manner. You would get close to him, he would suddenly port away several times and reappear miles away. He did this repeatedly over the course of about 1hr, multiple people saw the warrior doing this.

The thief in that video was moving in the same way as the warrior I and others saw, definitely not lag. Funnily enough, the warrior was also on a French server.
