ok im totally with you i really like this ideas :-) but wouldn’t it be too much ele like?
Revenant will get underwater combat. Just haven’t talked about it yet. soon™.
Roy you made my day that even you use the TM sign after “soon”
Revenant doesn’t need weapon swap.
Exact – no weapon swap is needed
Give us sth like Conjured Weapons or Engi Kits
I’ll still vote vor Mist Weapons that cost upkeep to hold
Ele doesnt have weapon swap. Engi doesnt have weapon swap. Why people assume that revenant needs one? There may be other solutions than weapon swap ya know?
But it doesnt matter as revenant wont get weapon swap either way. And let it stay this way.
Ele has Conjures Engis have Kits – Revenants deserve something similar

im so happy – DPS Dual Swords
The problem I see with having the legend auto-swap your weapon is what’s the difference? You basically just gave Revenant default weapon swap in addition to utility swap. I would rather you stick with 1 weapon, but have it’s skills be determined by traits.
The weapon should come “blank” and it’s effects should be derived from traits which are already inexorably tied to the legends. If you take Mallyx, the traits should add conditions to specific 1-5 slots. If you take Shiro, the traits should add a damage modifier to specific 1-5 slots. These traits should remain in effect no matter which legend you currently channel. That way you can be in Mallyx, but retain the damage modifiers of Shiro. Or you could swap to Ventari but still apply conditions from Mallyx.
IMO legend swapping itself should only affect your 6-0 slots. This would open up the most build diversity because you could use any weapon you feel like for any build. The only difference would be attack speed, range, and animations.
I#m totally with you and the idea to apply special effects on all weapons and make the weapons itself more baselined
but:
the roles of the Rev SHOULD Change with the Legend Swap – so the additional stuff on the weapons should be bound directly to the active legend (not via Traits) – We need to >>swap << Roles in mid combat like every other class does so permanent trait buffs are not the way
Also every weapon skill should be “unique” – not every #1 skill should give the same effect on every weapon – instead every weapon skill should get its own legend benefit
e.g. Mace 2 + Mallyx = apply torment Mace 2 + Jalis = blind foe for 1 s Mace 2 + Ventari – apply regeneration mace2+shiro gain might
while mace 3 on mallyx = apply cripple mace 3 + ventari = AoE Heal Mace 3 + Jalis = Weakness Mace 3+ Shiro = vulnerability
Hammer for Example should profit very heavily on Cripple chill and stuff if on mallyx while it should rely on maybe reflection and movement speed on Jalis – the result is the same “keep away from me and don’t do me DMG” but the way its achieved is different
great ideas and i also second this post
but i would not change the weapon skills / names / icons – this should be a Ele attunement thing – but i would add the effects you told as tooltip to the weapon skills.
So no use for new animations / skill-icons or stuff like that
just simply every weapon gets its “touch” of the active legend – therefore all weapons will be baselined pretty much like Mace will still apply torment and burning stuff – but weaker – but has an increased base damage
if “attuned” to Shiro you do extra dmg or gain might or whatever – while on mallyx you do additional torment , ventari will provide some heal and Jalis could do a blind
(different stuff for every skill of course – Mace 2 on Jalis could apply a 1s blind and mace 3 could apply some weakness)
It’s also probably a lot less work to try and allow a second weapon and bind them to legends, than it is to create 5 new skills x 5 legends x 3+ weapons
we should not care about work – the class has to be fun to play thats the main point.
And we dont need complete new Skills – we just need new Effects on the existing ones (CDs dmg whatever could stay the same but the Effect of a skill should change – like it does millions of times with traits and stuff)
if an Mace 1 doesnt apply torment / Poison but give you 1s vigor istead if you are on Jalis thats not a big deal to change – nobody must create new skill icons or animations – just implement an legend-connected effect and every thing is fine
Also, it might sound silly, but having a Ventari legend with no swiftness options other than a traited staff and no built in 25% movement increase feels a bit off, “I can outrun a centaur” and all.
Doesn’t sound Silly :-)
Stuff like this would perfectly fit into some kind of passive buff that gives you +XYZ while channeled to a Legend.
Ventari: 25% Speed + X Healing Power / Regeneration / whatever
Jalis: +X toughness + chance to gain protection if hitted by an enemy (internal cd)
Mallyx: +Condi-DMG / duration + chance to rip off boon of foe on hit/crit/dodge whatever
Shiro: +Power / Ferocity / precision +chance to rein energy on hit/crit
(all traitable in the according line to maybe be a group buff – or maybe kind of necro heal signet style that you mark the enemy for a period of time after Legend Swap and all allys gain sth if they hit them )
edit: Numbers can be adjusted easily – but thats the only way i can see to compensate the fact that the legnds are tied to different stats (Ventari Heal / Mallyx Condi-dmg …) – a Guardian can equip at least a +healingpower staff and a warrior a +CondiDMG Sword or a +vitality +tougness shield to be a little more effective with it (also the additional signets inside the weapons count) – legend passives should compensate this a little bit
(edited by Loex.5104)
On a personal note, I didn’t finish season two either. I got to one point (in a cavern with some dragon-y looking thing and stuff being hurled over a wall that you picked up – forget the stage now) and couldn’t work out the mechanic. Oh, I know there is one and I could look it up but after having my armour stripped a dozen times, I gave up.
jeez it took me hours to notice that little kitten that was turning off the flamens T.T
to help you:
the torch is thrown over the wall – you need to blaze ALL roots – but there is some little guy spawning that turns them off if you dont kill him —- i didnt saw him because i was concentrated on the Dragon ^^’ for very very long
If an elementalist wants to be effective at range and in melee, they can pack a staff and switch to lightning hammer for high melee DPS and a cleaving blind / blast-finisher auto attack. D/D might not have effective ranged options, but neither does a warrior running GS/Axe-Mace. Just because they can spec to only melee/only ranged, doesn’t mean they have to.
Revenant doesn’t have that choice. They can either be ranged or melee, not both. For that matter, they can’t switch for more support, more AoE, or more condis either. They get to pick one focus with their weapon, with no way to switch in combat—better hope it’s a good one…
Thats the reason the Revenant needs some kind of conjured Mist Weapons IMO
Not like the ele-weapons but more like an upkeep skill that gives you a mist weapon for the cost of energy – this would also fit perfectly in the whole mist topic
isn’t invocation the base spec?
kitten i forgot that – ty you’re definitively right.
The base spec is still missing (like arcane for ele)
Scrap energy on the weapons and use cooldowns and keep energy associated with utilities.
This would result in an increase of the cooldowns which won’t be a good idea on a no-weapon-swap-class.
The energy costs on the weapons are OK IMO – the idea is that the utilities are pretty strong on a low CD but you have to decide what you want to do – keeping up mallyx elite or bursting out all your weapon skills … (just an example)
I rather have utilities with cd at this point. Apply that system to thief and will be dead.
Energy cost on weapon needs to go, that or weapons cd. Theres no reason nor point to be limited by cd and energy at once.
if the weapon CD goes away the energy-cost would increase which would make utilities less usable.
i dont get where the problem is atm
the energy regenerates fast enough to spam your weapon skills on CD without problems. you just get energy problems when you use an upkeep-skill as it does an energy decrease over time – and thats exactly the point the energy system is used for. All other stuff worked pretty well (of course we can discuss some energycosts like 50 for a 1second taunt)
if the energy cost on weapons go away the cd must be increased which will lead to an endless 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 Period AND you will always run on max energy OR with a permanent upkeep skill (like the dwarf hammers for dps)
Weapons
Some will criticize the current weapons because they are closely tied to a legend. I agree with this a for the most part. If I was playing Staff I felt like I needed to go Ventari and HealingPower. It’s a little sad that this is the case, but I think A-Net is trying to make roles like Tank and Healer seem as important as DPS.
The Revenant needs its roles as well as all other classes BUT this can not be handled as other classes … Revenant has no Weapon Swap so it is not possible to define its role through its weapon like other classes do. The role has to come through the utilities and nothing but that.
Weapons have to be totally independend from the choosed legend – instead every legend should “buff” the equipped weapon in some kind of way
e.g.
Axe + Mallyx -> chance to apply torment
Axe + Ventari -> Chance to drop healing orb
Axe + Jalis -> chance to apply weakness
Axe+Shiro -> chance to apply vulnerability
staff+ventari – chance to heal
staff+mallyx – chance to rip off boon and apply condition
staff + jalis – chance to gain protection
staff+Shiro – chance to gain quickness
I finally completed it with the help of a friend, which kind of defeats the purpose of the living stories being solo-able.
the whole thing is soloable – it is your fault if you cant succeed alone (and there is no problem in failing – the problem is yeling around that its not doable because you just didnt get the mechanic right atm)
The Boss isn’t hard at all but it has a lot of cool mechanics though – thats the way bosses have to be designed IMO and you don’t need to be 1337 to defeat it you just need to see the mechanics (you’ve learned before) and use them to kill it.
Please don’t be that kind of person who fails in something and starts posting kitten like its not doable. I Don’t know how often you’ve tried it or how late it was or how drunk you may were but the Boss is easy and mechanics like that are something i wish for every boss in the Game – it is not undoable .. its also not really hard .. its just not simple 0815 DPS-BrainAfk loot
Revenant needs conjured mist weapons that are not bound to a legend but that are effected by it. So a conjured mist bow with Mallyx Stance would have other abilities than in Ventari stance.
In Addition each Legend definitively needs more utilities (at least 2 or 3) to choose from.
The Reason is pretty simple : all Classes can’t configure their 1-5 but they can configure their 6 – 0. The Revenant can’t do both atm.
Rev staff isnt lower DPS because its tied to the “support” legend . . its lower dps cus it can heal while u fight
Except we have evidence to the contrary directly from Roy himself regarding how the staff was once meant to be DPS but then designed to be more in tune with Ventari.
Thats the worst possible design to use for the Revenant – Revenants gain their Roles through their utilities not their weapons
If i want to heal during fight i use Ventari legend if i want to handle conditions i use mallyx – thats the idea behind the revenant.
Revenants can’t swap weapons in combat so its useless to design the weapons for a role
I agree, it should auto summon and follow you.
im with you in the auto-summoning topic but i dont want to see a auto-follow all the time.
The Problem is the cast time to make it move – remove the cast time so you can use it like shouts – not interrupting other skills and also usable while knocked down – and it will be fine IMO.
Activated a handful of new endpoints — mostly authenticated and require the “inventories” permission — that provide access to an account’s various inventories:
- /v2/materials - unauthenticated endpoint which provides localized names and contents for each of the material storage tabs. (CDI)
- /v2/account/bank - the contents of the account’s bank. (CDI)
- /v2/account/materials - the contents of the account’s material storage. (CDI)
- /v2/characters - will now contain equipment and inventory fields when the token has the “inventories” scope. (CDI)
- /v2/characters/:id/inventory - just the inventory data. (CDI)
- /v2/characters/:id/equipment - just the equipment. (CDI)
)
pretty neat ;D
now we just need some endpoints for the current Gold and the current Gems on an Account plz
also an Flag on the character/inventory+bank that shows if the item is actually soul / account bound or not would be awesome

It doesn’t matter what ANet meant. The players are speaking, and they have time to change it.
They WON’T remove the core game free with expansion. As bad as you think this backlash may be, that would even be worse. It would be removal of a feature, which is probably the one of the worst things you can do in a game. And it’s up for prepurchase, so there’s already money involved.
They’ve made their decision with this. The best they can do is to compensate existing players, no moving backwards.
its totally ok to deliver the CoreGame+Exp boundle for 50 Bucks
but its not ok to force veterans to buy that version by not selling an special upgrade version

its not about the price
ppl complaining about the arrogance of ArenaNet for selling a Boundle (classic + HOT) while they already bought the classic game
Nobody would have problems with the price if the veterans would be threatened equal to the potential new players but atm potential new players are more worthful than the veterans who have financed the game.
This Decision was made by some guys from the finance or advertising department in nice suits with expensive cars who never ever walked 1 step in Tyria
The veterans don’t want to be threatened better … they want to be threaten equal.

Dear ArenaNet THIS is highly bad business…
This is also false advertising for everyone who bought the game between the FAQ-Post and today. This is not the ArenaNet we knew.
You really have a good hand on screwing your player-base and causing a rage-wave haven’t you? – the forums and reddit are exploding like hell and the people complaining are right.
it is totally ok to price the XPac with 50 bucks
it is totally ok to give the base game for free to new players*
it is totally ok to deliver different packs with different inclusions
*BUT it is absolutely not OK to forget the loyal playerbase who financed the game over the past years. Where is the benefit for the Veterans?
I get more for my money if i create a new account than i get if i upgrade my existing one.
If you include the Basegame to the HOT Pack it is totally obvious that its unfair for the existing veterans if they get nothing if they upgrade for the same price the new players have to pay.
This is typical 0815 business – praise potential new customers like they are gods on earth and screw everyone who is already one. – point 1 is totally ok … point 2 is not.
If you’re really interested in the existing players just upgrade every HOT standard edition to the Deluxe edition if the key is used on an existing account or give us at least the free choice between two or three of the In-Game-Items of the Deluxe-pack (like you did with the GW2 Heroic Edition) or do whatever you want but giving NOTHING in return is just wrong.
or let’s do some simple math … if you buy HOT you get a fresh account … so give the upgraders all the corresponding character-slots and a new bank-tab in addition to their chosen HOT-Pack (sounds stupid? it is, but it’s fair) :-P

this Thread is so funny =D OP NEVER postet in the forums but instantly rage-flamed ArenaNet because he was not able to read the Stress-Test-invitation =D
trolls will never extinct i think
Because it’s not consistent with the rest of the environments in GW2. If the whole GW2 world ran with a surreal theme, it wouldn’t seem so out of place. Right now, though, you’ll be stepping out of the Silverwastes, which looks like a fairly reasonable network of arid canyons, into a place that looks like it has no ground. It doesn’t seem to fit.
it was told that the void area is for the demo … there is something beneath so dont Panic … and obviously you never did the SW jumping puzzle?? it is VERY deep below the surface of SW so the Demo-Map perfectly fits into that theme – SW is not just the canyons
here the latest Image of the Map btw

If that’s compared to dry top, doesn’t that mean the zone is pretty small? And didn’t they say the expansion only has 3 zones?
They said it will have 3 biomes, top, mid and bottom, not 3 zones. Each biome can have more than 1 zone.
actually its the other way round – each zone can/will have 3 biomes top, mid and bottom
and they clearly talked about zoneS – plural so i really doubt that it will be just that one zone.
just for a comparison let’s have a look at the 3.0 expansion in Rift
http://forums.riftgame.com/general-discussions/patch-notes/442490-rift-3-0-nightmare-tide-7-00am-pdt-10-22-14-na-2-00pm-gmt-10-22-14-eu.htmland it was totally for FREE
and now look at the amount of content of HoT with the knowledge that it will be NOT for FREE
so…seriously…why do ppl even have to pay for this HoT when other companies can do bigger expansions for free?
maybe we should wait till release and talk about quality instead of quantity later on … when i read “level cap increase to 65” i just want to puke ^^ but we cant judge anything of HoT atm so a comparison is not useful till we know everything about it.
as far as i know there is a trait that makes Legend-Swap instant
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empty_VesselI had this trait.
than you maybe should send a bug-ticket? in the PAX Demo the YouTubers played the Legend-Swap was instant with this trait equipped (i didnt liked it because the cool swap animation was nearly invisible though)
It is nothing more than the Living Story episodes and Feature packs we have already been getting… being saved up and given to us as a whole instead of in bite-sized pieces…. and there is a price tag associated with it.
and whats the difference here to any other MMORPG (or any other DLC at all?) you are just used to get regular content for free and now start flaming around that the XPac is nothing more than LS 3
EVERY Expansion ist just a collection of new Content ..
EVERY GAME is just an Collection of content at all .. dude the’ve been working on it since start of LS 1 and its not just that what you’ve seen in Stress-Test
Keeping a hungry person alive with small bites of food then giving him a meal once in a while is what players have been asking for…. and it is clearly not what we are going to get.
But we already got small pieces of food … but were hungry for a big dinner
im totally by your side that the time now till the XPac releases suxx and that the lack of new Story is Disgusting … but blaming the XPac for the little piece of bread you’ve seen so far is absolutely useless and just trolling
(edited by Loex.5104)
Well, you guys got to play with a ranged power weapon (in celestial??) with a condition manipulation legend (in pve) and a tank one, with most of the weapons disabled, 3 missing legends, of which, one being the dps legend, as well as the power trait line missing.
Well, yes, that’s one of the points. The synergy between legends and weapons is pretty much non-existing. Especially since they seem to be based around different stat sets. And going celestial is not going to fix it, because Celestial in PvE is a really, really bad choice.
where is the Problem with that?
Legends are made to switch for certain situations just as normal utility skills
(eg even the pure Power Hammer Revenant would use mallyx for AC Spider Boss for condition cleaning) you dont need Sinister-Stats just because you use mallyx as he’s more the “here take back your kitten conditions bro i dont want them”-type
Unfortunately it looks like burning, chill, and poison might still be stuck at 1 stack.
chill and poison are needed to stack in duration not in intensity – why burning doesnt stack in intensity isn’t obvious to me :/
The synergy of the system wasn’t my issue with it, just the play style in general. There’s a lot to polish up. My main concern is the speed of swapping heroes, it’s just slow and clunky to me.
Agreed, in comparison to swapping attunements it’s night and day.
as far as i know there is a trait that makes Legend-Swap instant

What I “beta tested” was the next episode of the Living World, and I would be insulted if HoT ends up being content we were going to see in future episodes of Living world hiding behind a pay wall.
What you’ve “Beta” tested was the official PAX DEMO nothing more nothing less !!
You’ve seen ONE Story instance and the smallest possible area of a huge Map.
you came here and flame around about the weak “Beta” while it was nothing more than a STRESS TEST
I know many ppl who would be happy to be part of this stress test as they were not able to visit PAX or EGX
Jeez you could play the Demo-Setup without the time limitation of 40 Minutes and without queuing for multiple hours!!
We didn’t know much about the volume of the XPac (number of maps / replayability / size of the maps / map mechanics / length of the story / etc etc etc) if you know the content please share your knowledge with us … otherwise you’re not able to judge the content of the XPac by a DEMO that was created for random strangers of PAX / EGX who just can play 40 minutes.
Judging the whole xpac by a small demo flaming around with “just LS behind paywall” is just wrong (and again if you know way more then we do give us your information)
You were just there because ANet wanted to test the Beta-Client-in-Live-Client-implementation – server loads – pings – whatever so that they can start the normal closed/public beta without the mistakes they made in the Beta before launch —> it was a STRESS TEST but some people obviously like to take the candy they got and throw it back into the face of the ones who gave it to them.
Look at Dry Top
Look at Silverwastes
Look at Southsun Cove
and look at this.It is literally no different… save they are adding a new profession.
So why is Anet putting it behind a pay wall?
And new large Maps (it won’t be just one i think)
And Guild Halls
And Masteries
And a whole new Story – fully voiced (even your character speaks again)
And specializations
And new WvW Borderlands
And Stronghold
And new stuff we didn’t know yet in total (eg. dungeons? new Armor Sets / new legendarys / Precursor-hunt / MiniGames (challenges) / world bosses? / Legendary-Bosses like Wyvern / …
its really just an LS-Episode !
(edited by Loex.5104)
i need help about recording the beta today,
im using OverWolf as a record program and i want to REC everything on HD but 15 min is 4 GB!
how is that possible
its easy – its as uncompressed as Fraps-Files (saves you CPU due not compressing footage)
Do you have an “actual” NVidia Card ? the’ve a build in recording functionality called “shadow play”
My current guess is off-hand pistol or off-hand dagger. Though I think off-hand pistol is somewhat more likely.
and what shall you do with a range offhand but no possible range mainhand? oO
Anet is a bussiness company with clear goal to sell their product. They work with bussiness plan not with unicorns and pink thoughts about spreading love to ppl.
yes they’re a business company and the primary goal is making profit but they love their product and you can see it in the eyes of collin & co. they want to do it right and good (we all know that that resulted in failure sometimes e.g. NPE … but hay .. thats life … and they got screwed enough for every failure (even if sth isn’t released at all they got blamed for it)
Look at the Product they called GW2 before release and before they started to remake the whole thing. They could easily choose the way of … i could call 99% of the MMO market (espacially asian games) here…. just to milk the players and than kill the game afterwards but they choosed to aim for GW2 kitten named frenchise with good reputation which is more difficult i think . -> and yes thats even a marketing strategy to gain money blabla … but it’s definitively the harder one.
The OP is definitively right … ANet gets blamed for every kitten the whole time but its pretty seldom that someone makes a post just to thank them for several (thousands) hours of playtime.
I join in and say : Thank you ArenaNet
As I said, I dont deny you your right to say thank you to ppl who take money from you. I just dont understand it.
than you may just think about the fact that nobody gets hurt by a “thank you” and the Devs maybe deserve some honor – its nothing wrong to thank someone for doing its job well.
It’s your right to feel grateful, however in bussiness world at the end it’s only money that matters.
And that is EXACTLY the thing the capitalistic world will teach us …. nothing is worth anything, it just has a price … thats so sad
(edited by Loex.5104)
actually raids are nothing but dungeons with bosses where you have to use a special tactic to beat them (mostly with different phases where your group has to do different things -> organisation) – that concept is 100% usable in normal 5 man group content (i think its harder for open world content but its possible).
I Think thats why ANet hired Raid and AI designers – not to implement raids as we know (10 – 25 or 40 man) but to implement interesting mechanics in all content-types
You quoted the wrong person.
Raids are called raids because you need more people which usually implies required coordination. And I agree that hiring a raid designer doesn’t mean there are going to be typical raids in gw2.
oh, im sorry for that.
Sure they are called raids because of the larger number of players but technically they are nothing but large dungeons with more mechanics which require more coordination. And coordination and mechanics are not bound to a lot of people you can implement nearly every mechanic into 5man content.
Raids aren’t even close to dungeons. There’s no organization needed to complete almost any dungeon in this game (except aetherpath, this in conjunction with rng rewards and its length is most likely the reason of its failure) and you only need 4 more people.

wow you really bought their hype hook line and sinker…
You go on and on about how GW2 does not have grind then proceed to list:
luminescent armor (have to grind the same content 40-50 times to finish collection)
masteries (must grind to get ALL of them to complete the content, they are not optional)
precursors (must grind 1000g by running 500+ dungeons)
Vinewrath (currently farmed continuously in full grind mode)Those are all far worse grinds than anything offered in WoW… in WoW you need to do a dungeon 3-5 times to get the gear you need, then you can do another dungeon… in GW2 you need to do a dungeon 30+ times to get a full gear set. GW2 is significantly more grindy than other MMO’s, I want it to be LESS grindy by offering dungeons like in other MMOs.
Its nice what you have listed there sadly i talked about forced grind that is required … now tell me WHO forces you to “grind” it?
Do you need it to participate in content that is locked before?
what content is locked at all? what can’t you do in the game without that grind you’re talking about?
are you unable to Beat Vinewrath without a legendary?
Do you need luminiscent armor to beat Tequatl or whatever?
Do you need that Arah-Gloves because you cant port to Drytop without?
i think the answer is obvious.
Now to your WoW Example (you started it)- the most content is locked behind some ugly stat-walls … you HAVE to farm dungeons in a specific order over and over just to gain access to the next tier of dungeons to farm over and over
… then start farming reputation to be able to buy access to Hardmode-Dungeons to farm new Gear to be able to enter the first raid to farm that again over weeks just because RNG and DKP wont give you new gear within >>!! 6 !!<< this number is totally impossible – runs just to gain access to the next Raid tier ….. blahblahblah and so on
I’ve Played WoW Vanilla → Cata and WoW is the holy mother of Grind
in GW2 you can do Every Dungeon you want to get Exo Gear .. you can craft it / get it as random loot or get it via PvP and even via WvW or just simply buy it. If you want THAT specific dungeon Skin than it is up to you if it’s worth doing it – Fractal random drops aside .. i hate random dropping stuff <.<
and now … While the Stuff you’ve done in GW2 is unlocked for your whole account forever and you dont have to do anything again … in WoW you have to start the same procedure again if you want to play an Alt
and than the next addon kicks in – raises the level cap – and makes all your stuff useless… AMAZING =D
And the Masteries? i don’t know where there should be a grind … you have to train it via XP so you can see it as level cap increase but without making your stuff you’ve worked before useless. so you just level further… but even that is account bound so that all your chars get the benefit of doing it >>1<< time.
you just have to do everything grindy ONE time … you have to forge ONE Leggy and can give it to every char … same with ascended Weapons/Gear and obviously skins / tonics / Masteries whatever and nothing of it is forced because nothing gives you more content
It has nothing to do with hype its about the freedom you have to do what you want … and to me it looks like you want everything in the game without repeating anything … so you’ll need 500 Dungeons and 12k different events and 100 different armor sets just to stay tuned for some weeks / months … you know thats not possible MMOs always worked the way that you have to repeat things to gain something but GW2 is different in the important point that you just have to do int once for your whole account
GW2 has grind … but you don’t have to do anything of it if the result is not worth enough to you and the WoW typical WoW Dungeon System won’t ever be in GW2 and thats the way it has to be.
We can talk about more and cooler Boss mechanics of course – thats sth GW2 really needs – but not about a gear-grind-treadmill where you’re forced to clear and farm dungeons just to gain access to ne next one.
GW2 delivers fun .. not grinding
Not sure if being sarcastic or not..
Nope i’m not sarcastic.
The OP made the point -> the WHOLE content of nearly any other MMO is nothing but grind to gain access to new content which is grind again
These dungeons are generally what keep people playing the content as they search for new gear and master the encounters…
- i would like to add that you have to do the same things again with every alt you create
GW2 offers you optional stuff to hold you in the game that you don’t have to do if you don’t want it.
It is confirmed that there will be challanging content and we know nothing about it atm but we can be sure that it won’t be like the other MMOs. So the comparison the OP did is not useful and the OP shouldn’t expect something like he mentioned .
Is there an equivalent in HoT? What will keep us playing after we finish the story 2-3 weeks in?
I just haven’t seen any info on this, i’m sure it is somewhere, but I can’t find it.
There won’t be any Dungeon-gergrind-treadmill. Im Sure we’ll get dungeons but they won’t do the main part of holding us in the game – gw2 never worked that way.
in PVE it will be mostly focused on Masteries (jeez there can be so many possibilities) / Collections (like the Silverwastes one for the Carapace gear) / Precursor-Hunting and of course dynamic events with new chains and bosses (like Vinewrath or the wyvern). Also the challenges could play a bigger role.
So it will definitively not be like other MMOs – the biggest comparison we could do should be the Silverwastes as the Devs mentioned that Orr once was planned like SW in much bigger scale with bigger impact for the map and the map-mechanics.
They may have reconsidered even having costs tied to weapon skills. Might have felt weird having these small trickle costs affecting management for utilities. I don’t know for sure, but I could see why they’d do it. The weapon costs were insignificant enough to not matter for the resource (very much) but significant enough to sort of throw off timing for utilities. We’ll just have to see.
sure but we know that a 30s cd is unaccaptable for a non weapon-swap class
and the longest CD on weapons from the POI / Demo was 15s (skill 5)
let’s wait … and i even hope that the sword is viable with power-spec … the kitten hybrid thing is the reason why my warrior doesn’t wield swords >.<
In a typical boxed expansion, the majority of the repeatable content is in the form of dungeons/raids. Generally for a $40 expansion you will get 8-10 dungeons with 8-10 additional hard modes, and 2-3 raids. These dungeons are generally what keep people playing the content as they search for new gear and master the encounters…
GW2 delivers fun .. not grinding
naahh … no chance to stand Kralkatorrik with him in the future
ouu that was dark humor …
Wow, staff cooldowns are huge when not able to swap weapons (as mentioned above). Looks like they want us to either use our legend skills almost entirely (thus depleting energy so we don’t have it even when the skills are off cooldown) or they just want us smacking our enemies with AA most of the time
just think about the fact that there are no energy costs mentioned … be sure that this are just placeholders to replace later as the energy-system is patched in.
- very complicated mechanic
- forcing you to get gear / traits to reach a specific cap of some attribute
- no benefit for gameplay
sorry but definitively no
things like your slime barrier or reflection aura are good mechanics for bosses if you can remove them by doing something specific like using some lasers at the same time or whatever but not if you remove them just by having some attribute of a certain level.
