I used them once, just to try them out. Haven’t used them since.
CD is waaaay too long on them.
so bursty as in spike someone down pretty quick.
i might try out the boon duration runes. but tbh the protection is a 30% dmg reduction for 10sec which can make and brake a fight imo (defending my runes to the last!! :p ALSO the extra toughness is nice
and my build is build around the hammer so not gonna be removing that.I have no idea to reply to this cause I personally have tested a lot and without blowing my own trumpet I am pretty darn good at PvP and your build in theory sounds good but bad things will happen to you in actual battle.
I’m not going to go into any further detail on this post because you keep repeatedly defending the Forge rune and it’s getting annoying so since you aren’t willing to take peoples input as such just roll whatever ya like and have a good day.
Forcing the way you play onto someone else who’s already stated they liked the runes yet you continue to say “change them because I say so” is equally annoying. You’ve given him no feed back in regards to the rune choice other than to say it makes no sense or bad things will happen. This isn’t constructive feedback. Perhaps you should explain why you have those opinions and suggest other runes.
The same goes for you other posters, with the exception of the one that actually suggested changing the sigil for fire.
I may have come off aggressive and for that I apologise but as you can see above I have stated it’s down to personal preference however what I can’t stand is when someone asks for build help but defends their build without thinking ‘why is that person saying to change this’. I am giving feedback which is of course based off of my personal opinion nothing more. Don’t like my opinion then don’t take note of it ^^
Welcome to the Internet.

Better yet, when are we getting another option for any other legendary weapon, I for one would like a different legendary staff, and also the ability to fuse 2 together for something similar like eternity.
I think they want to focus on improving the current legendaries first than introducing more.
No, they need to create some more. There’s one legendary per weapon type, except for Greatsword, which for some reason gets THREE, which is stupid. Half the professions in the game can’t even use greatswords.
Technically, it’s just two. As it stands now, Eternity doesn’t count.

Sinos, that link goes to a blank calculator.
So I’ve been trying this build for some time now and I really like the utility of it. The 80% duration is just awesome! I think I’ll be sticking with this build for awhile.
I’ve actually got two sets of gearing. One for solo play that has for dps and the other that focuses on tanking so more healing power.
Its ment to be blank. That ones just the start page. you click on the class you want to start with like any other calculator. it lets you then go threw and set your pve gear and traits.
My bad, I thought you were meaning to show your exact build that you were using.

If I’m not mistaken, it used to make items soulbound, but they changed it to account instead and had not corrected the description yet. I could be wrong though.
Skill 1: no change!? What? Skill 1 is the most useless out of the whole bunch. The speed of it needs a serious boost.
I’ll be trying this build out as soon as I get the Koda tokens for the Sanc runes.
I don’t see how its an exploit. If it is, then transmuting any equipment at all is an exploit.
@Kootz and others who like the bunker builds:
You’ll have to ignore most of the posters here in this Guardian forum. I’d say the majority here do not think survival builds are necessary due to their own ability to memorize game mechanics. They seem to dismiss that some people: play only a couple hours a week or less; are still learning when to dodge; forget certain areas where dodging and kiting is needed more than staying in melee range; do not have the same reaction time they have and think everyone can dodge just as easy as they do. I could go on, but it’s starting to get stale here in the reply box.
And that’s a shame because those are the types of situations where a bunker build would really shine. I’ve played the game long enough to have 3 different gear builds, playing around the minimum traits of x/x/30/20/x, where the extra points are plugged where ever. One gear setup is an all out DPS, concentrating on maximum power and crit; another setup is all cleric/healing power for bunkering; and the last set is a mix up of Soldiers, Knights, Berserkers, and Valkryie, trying to keep stats semi-balanced, but without extra healing power. I also have a partial Knights setup, which I mostly don’t use.
Anyways, what I’m rambling on about is, the best thing for you to do is to try out the various setups on your own. Find what you like best. Experiment until you’ve found what you’re looking for. If you’re still learning the dungeons and other content, the bunker gear that I use won’t fail you. And in my experience, it’s better for those infamous pugs that you get into on occassion.
If you want to experiment with different gear options, try buying the rare stuff and not exotics until you find what you like best. It’ll save you a lot money.
Check out this build then:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Boon-Duration-build-long-time-user/first#post1469960
I’m going to try it out soon myself as soon as I get the koda tokens for sanctuary runes. Again, use Cleric gear for the extra healing.
hmm not much has changed. My guard only has one ascend piece right now, working on getting more. Most of them went to my warrior lol.
But this is what I typical run as of now.
I see you’ve brought up your armor to 3k again, while still keeping 3k attack, +40% crit rate, +80 crit damage, and nearly 18k hp! I don’t see how you did it! No matter what I do, I can’t get the same numbers.
RESPECT!
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
That’s true.
I fancy my toon as one of the only Theistic Charr as a Guardian in the Legion. I’m often frowned upon by my superiors, but when they see the results in battle, they leave me alone.
Did you miss the part where I said “That said – I wouldn’t be opposed to some sets that show more fur if it was done in a fierce tribal way, rather than a ‘sexy’ way.”?
I am all for more choices, even if it doesn’t exactly fit lore. And I never said the current sets do, either – in fact I hate how they just stretched and transported armors onto the Charr with no thought on how it looks or the horrid clipping issues. I love Charr but my biggest problem with them is how horrible most armor looks on them.
Saying you’re ok with something doesn’t mean an argument you use against it can’t be illogical. If current armor has nothing to do with lore or pragmatism, why should any new or redesigned armor?
Clipping and stretching is a limitation of the game engine, not lore. Get a better argument.
You missed my argument, so I don’t think you’re qualified to comment on its quality. Also, clipping is an issue with how much work and resources Anet wanted to devote to charr armor. They have shown to be capable of making charr armor without clipping and terrible footwear. I don’t know anything about game design, but I am capable of recognizing when results can be replicated consistently. If they dealt with the limitations for cultural armor and a few other sets, they could have done the same thing for other armor.
Actually no, I didn’t miss the point. You were using clipping and stretching as a means to refute Caledore’s claim to lore and how practical Charr armor is in its current state, ie armor covering the body. In actuality, your point didn’t really refute what he was stating at all. It simply complained that clipping and stretching is bad. And you further fortify this point with your reply to me above.
I’ll repeat, lore has nothing to do with how badly an armor is made in a 3d modeling program if the original intention was to match lore. The design is there and match what Caledore stated. The results came out looking bad. What it has to do with is that the modeler got lazy or hasty, or there are game engine limitations, both of whichI should have stated in my first reply to you. Engine limitation is not the only problem, modeler laziness or time limits are also an issue. Some of the armor you see in the game is just this. The problematic ones have a rushed feel to them.
Again, this has nothing to do with lore.
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
Making sure to stay on the same page, why do you think a Guardian isn’t fitting to Charr?
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
I don’t see it as an issue of modesty but practicality. Charr as a race are extremely pragmatic now (and very far from the bestial Charr from GW1). Leaving a lot of fur showing leaves it open to attack, and Charr would never sacrifice that combat advantage for aesthetic reasons. So from a lore perspective, I don’t think showing a lot of fur really fits the Charr in GW2.
It isn’t pragmatic to wear clothes don’t fit either. Anet doesn’t care about lore in regard to armor. Please show me the lore that states how charr have an affinity for tail clipping and giant, stretched shoes that don’t fit. The lore and pragmatism arguments didn’t result in quality armor, but those same arguments should be used as a reason against aesthetic diversity? The very principle and logic behind that idea is almost infuriating.
Clipping and stretching is a limitation of the game engine, not lore. Get a better argument.
As Mrauls suggested, you could always try the Paragon build, but use all out cleric gear with saph orbs and jewels. While it won’t negate the bursting you see in some of the fract events, especially high levels, or so I’m told, it will help to carry the group by a lot. You’ll pour out lots of healing and be able to “tank” at the same time.
1. Don’t mess with my heavy armor. I mean it. Remove that editting finger or I’ll bite it off!
2. There are several sets in the game that expose the fur, I would suggest you look them up.
3. What Caledore said….. x10.
It sounds awesome, will def try it out once I hit 80. And Lalangamena, obviously I don’t have much experience at guard since I’m a lower level, but correct me if Im wrong hitting for 3k per mighty blast sounds like pretty good dps.
Right now in WvW I hit for like 300
a) 3K for mighty blast on crit is not that high, if he could reach these numbers on hammer swing, that’s a different story.
also the build he linked has 9% crit, (29 with save yourselves) so you will crit once or twice in ten hits…
b) my suggestion takes his AH over-healing and makes it party wide healing, his attack/crit stays the same, so if he could crit 3K on the original build it will be the same for my suggestion.for solo running or www the “standard” AH/meditations 0/15/30/20/5 is a better build, in DPS and versatility and it has almost the same minimal group support.
for group content 0/0/20/30/20 or ‘healway’ 0/0/10/30/30 provides better group support, while conserving the same DPS.
that’s it.
Hmm, you can always throw in a Superior Sharpening Stone and bring that dps up.
Personally I like the way it sits on my back/shoulder. The spikes of my armor’s back don’t get obscured this way and I like seeing them.
You’re missing your third utility slot
This is why I use a safe equipment box at the bottom slots so I dont in a mistake salvage or sell to vender.
.
How does that prevent you from salvaging it though? The only thing a safe bag does is keep it from showing up in the vendor list.
Harb, you and I run very similar stats and gear, although a different trait build. Lately, I’ve been debating which sigil is best. I currently use Strength to take advantage of the crit chance I have. At first I was begining to wonder about Blood, since leech is always useful, but not for that. It was for the use of the straight, unresisted damage is procs. Roughly figuring it up, I had decided that 1v1, whether its PvP or PvE, Blood would probably win out in damage proc’ing. However, what won me over using Strength instead of Blood was that, Strength provides a damage advantage over several opponents.
Anyways, sorry for getting off on a tangent there. What I’m looking now is Rage vs Strength. That quickness buff is soooo nice when it hits, but the sigil only provides a 10% chance with a 45 second CD. What I’m getting at is, how often do you see the Rage proc actually working? Do you think it’s worth it over Strength’s 30% chance? Have you tried using Strength before on the GS?
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
Purplefrog, you got your quotation marks mixed up. You’re supposed to quote what the characters say, not their actions.
Just something off the top of my head:
“Wanna bite?”
Here’s my opinion on it.
Take food / oils into account, but don’t “build around them”.
Reason being, if they are nerf’d or changed, and you’ve geared out with those stats specifically in mind, you will end up changing your gear.
This isn’t a problem if you have the coin. But if you don’t have the coin, you will be upset.
Personally, I always have the food and I can definatly tell when I don’t: I usually die! lol… and looking back at the fight tell myself “wtf?! Oh… DUH, no food”. /sigh
I doubt they will nerf food with stat bonuses. If they do food nerfs, it’ll be ones that offer effects, such as the on-crit, ie. omnomberry.
IMO, nothing wrong with keeping food in mind for gear planning. However, don’t fall for the on-kill stacking sigils and think about keeping those in mind for your build.
Interesting build. The damage comes from retaliation. My biggest concern with this would be the low health though.
Looks like you concentrate mostly on the WvW or PvP aspect. How does this fair in PvE, say with dungeons and fractals.
Also, what about using GS and Scepter or Sword/Focus. I mainly use those weapons myself.
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
True but you said you got 3 legendaries already and want to make 1 more for a total of 4. That means you would need to do map completion 2 times for a total of 4 explorer tokens for 4 legendaries. Don’t need to do the 3rd map completion unless you plan on making 5-6 legendaries. Or maybe i misread that as in you only will do 4 since you don’t want to do map completion a 3rd time…regardless the grind for precursors atm is just a big turnoff which is kinda why i’ll make 1 more prolly since i got 1 already unless i get bored and something new comes out
That’s why he said he’s only doing 4 and not 5. He’s already done 2 map completions and doesn’t want to make a 3rd…. thus 4 only.
Yep, trying putting in 10 in zeal and put in the 10% damage on burn trait. That # will jump to 10%.
Still, human T3 heavy looks very similar to it. There’s a few obvious differences, but if I was a betting Guardian, I’d say that’s your match.
I’m a Charr Guardian and I’ve used the Charrzooka once.
You’re going to end up using Renewed Focus more than not, so really, you ought to go with what looks asethetically more pleasing to you because you’re the one that’s going to be staring at him.
Yeah, I’m in the same boat too. They are supposed to be adding more choices in for the ascended stuff though. I’m guessing it’ll be in Feb’s update.
Typo…. giving him the benefit of the doubt. =]
FYI, your +CritDmg is 103% ~not 150% + 103%~
I.
I think he’s refering to the quote from the wiki about C.Damage:
“Critical hits have a base damage multiplier of 150% to the base damage of the attack. Critical Damage is added to the damage multiplier as a percentage. For example, 50 (+50%) Critical Damage results in 200% damage multiplier on critical hits.”
That would be the Legendary greatswords, not a karma one, and ^ what he said.
Attack 3024
Condition Dmg 0
Crit. Chance 31
Crit. Dmg 57
Armor 3013
Health 19655
Healing Power 300
Virtue Recharge 0.5
Boon Duration 0.5
Condition Duration 0.5This is what I theory crafted because am to poor to buy the gear for it.
Mind explaining this theory and how you got to these stats?
One of the nice things I like about 30 Valor is not necessarily the AH, but the Monk’s Focus for spike healing. I find it is extremely useful in boss facing especially when hit with a spike damage hit.
How does this build do with tanking bosses?
Yeah, I’m not too sure on that overall. I just remember the notes from a while back about it in regards to ranger pets.
I’m not so sure the last part is quite accurate. Didn’t the game get patched so that Players get priority over NPC types when it comes to heals and buffs? If the weapon does get healed/buffed over a player that means the player wouldn’t have gotten the benefit anyways since he wasn’t close enough to begin with.
Too much focus on DPS. You would get 2 shot by any glass cannon thief and 1 shot by any glass cannon warrior. You shouldn’t be playing guardian as a warrior. I also see a huge lack of condition removal.
Actually you are wrong, love getting jumped by thieves since I can 2 shot them, also I have never been one shot by a warrior even when eating a full 100b. And how about we let people play the class how they want to. Instead of telling people what they should or should not do with the class.
Annnnnyways. I should update that guide some. I switched some sigils and went to omnomberry pies to complement the monks focus on the build. I run accuracy/generosity on sword/focus and run generosity on my GS as well. I dropped contemplation of purity for bane signet, and switched my valor traits to condition removal, toughness to perc and kept monk’s focus.
Also i dropped the sword damage trait for signet cooldown, but could also replace it with signet removes condition if you still feel you suffer conditions too much. Also i switched to straight beryl orbs in my armor, since i wanted the added vit/crit damage. And finally I moved to sharpening stones because it was an overall damage increase over the oil.
So now the build has 3 forms of condition removal (2 every 10 seconds and a 20 second on demand, 2 healing sources (food/ meditations) and added passive power with an on use CC that does decent damage (crits for about 1.5k for me) I sit around 70% crit with 1hand sword and about 45 ish with the GS. 3k attack with 1h, 3.1 with gs, 2800ish armor and 13.5k health with 1h and around 15k with GS (gs is valk, cant rember if i mentioned that in the build)
By all means play the class the way you want. Just note that it isn’t going to be effective. No matter how good a “dps” guardian seems, a balance will always outshine it. My Stats just to brag: 3050 Attack, 3100 Armor, 70% Crit Damage, 31% Crit Chance, 17k Life. No Food either. Not only am I more “tanky” but I dish out practically dish out the same dps. But again, its impossible to impose the way you play on others. So go ahead and play a guardian like a warrior.
Screenshots or it didn’t happen on those stats.
@Kiba, Really, the only one being defensive here is you. I just quoted what you said, context or not.
when you call me out for something that is blatantly not true then provide circumstantial and contextual evidence for what you inferred to be true, it behooves me to defend myself with facts.
btw, good luck trying to convince anyone but yourself
Again, who’s being defensive here? You just proved it yet again. Mr. Pot, over there is Mr. Kettle. As you said in your previous post, this is “(pointless)”.
Let me also pose another question to all posters that continually state that lodestone drop rates are fine and then use the TP to buy them: If drop rates for lodestones are fine the way they are, then why bother buying them from the TP? If you truly feel that way, then there is no reason to. It makes no logical sense.
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
Found a server with all temples open. Dragonbrand. Yeah!
Title, looking for an open one. Thanks.
@Kiba, Really, the only one being defensive here is you. I just quoted what you said, context or not.
I disagree with your drop rate opinion. Charged and Corrupted Lodestones are ridiculous for the rate. The other lodestones I think are fine. But this is also my opinion, so take the grain of salt.
@Vol, Actually, I’ve stopped farming for lodes myself personal after discovering, quickly I might add, how much of a waste of time it was.
In my experience, I had been farming Corrupted Lodestones, thinking they wouldn’t be as bad as Charged, but they’re just as bad if not worse. I spent one week with about 10 hours in and got 1 stone. That’s probalby just the RNG crappin on me, but still.
i was able to get 200 charged cores in about 12 days. so 100 charged lodestones will take me 1-2 more days to buy up the elonian wines i’ll need.
by day, i mean 3-4 hours of play time, as i didn’t play every day. about 5/7 days a week
it all depends on how you want to go about it. streamline your progress(and lose out on some fun/random elements of tyria) and you’ll see good results in shorter time span.
in case anyone was wondering, no i’m no master of the tp. i only use it to sell stuff that drops that i have no use for. i don’t know how to flip/manipulate items/people. was never in my nature to do that kind of stuff anyway.
I call BS then if you didn’t buy some from the TP. Drop rate is way too low to get 200 in 3-5 hours of game play per day for 12 days only.
never said i didn’t buy them from the tp. i said i don’t flip items on the tp to make gold. anyway, got my wines a day earlier than i expected
Ahhhh but you did say that you didn’t buy them from the tp:
“i only use it to sell stuff that drops that i have no use for.” That implies that you don’t buy from the TP at all.
People who seemingly only farm specific mobs for lodestones are the ones who are complaining . I’m not sure if they realize what they are doing is inefficient or not.
Well by all means, please enlighten them. Or are you just blowing smoke too?
he means if you spend your time farming sparks for your lodestones, you’ll not be as efficient as say…someone who farms t6 mats that drop more frequently and sell them to buy your lodestones
that is all. no need to get hostile =]
Acutally, I didn’t mean for that to sound hostile. It was supposed to be a bemused tone, but I can see why it was taken hostile.
In regards to what you said and what others keep mentioning about the TP, let me ask you one thing. What happens when everyone stops farming the Lodestones and jsut buys off the TP? Buying from the TP is only a bandaide to the existing problem (does not apply to grind-supporters), which is the drop rate of lodestones.
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
LOL @ ^
Yeah Kidbs, Archer is the guy who doesn’t believe in running with food at all.
It is pretty easy to get 8k with WW as long as you land most of your hits and crit with them. It’ll be harder on the more skilled pro players obviously, but still possible.

It’s too bad the temples are rarely open for the merchants. Well, at least on my server anyways.

Still pointless since you only benefit from it for a few seconds with a long CD. The trait along with SWs are a waste of trait and skill slots.
Did you really miss my obvious sarcasm? That trait is not even worth to be master trait.
Apparently so, but tone is a hard thing to understand in forums.
Grandmaster trait Wrathful Spirits just got a whole lot better!
Not really considering they die within seconds of summoning.
Where are you using these things that that happens? Because mine basically last until the run out naturally in most of the Orr dynamic events. Full blown-AoE boss hits nuke them, but against hordes of normal stuff they seem to perform fairly well. Testing back in the low (teens) and Mid (40s) zones, I had the sword successfully tanking for me. More than once its even pulled everything off me and held it while I self-healed after being downed.
Erm, since the game is full of AoE, any situation that involves AoE. Figured that would be obvious. This is the same problem with Necros and Rangers, though they still have more usefulness out of their pets.
