I think you messed up your quotes and reply Blaque, but I see what your posted.

I don’t remember there being a CD put on #3 sword during the betas, but I do remember it being one of the first skills to have a CD.

Regardless, I still stand by my point though. CDs ruined the profession and aren’t needed on utilities or weapons. There are other ways to balance and fix glaring problems with being able to spam skills.

As already mentioned, CD’s were already on the class, and taking them off of weapons would break things terribly.

Being able to use s3 multiple times in a row would be massively OP, or SotM. Weapons need CD’s, though I think some are a bit harsh, and there are some utilities that need their CD’s removed, especially some of the high energy ones.

They weren’t there with pre-beta and betas, if I remember correctly. There might’ve been a few put in at beta-3 though. No CDs is what made the class appealing.

Also, CDs aren’t the only way to balance, so I’d disagree that they’re needed.

Don’t worry about it, most say class and profession too. Heck, I do it all the time myself and I’ve been playing GW2 almost exclusively for the last four years.

I’m assuming you mean PvP mode? I don’t have as much PvP experience myself, so others would be better to answer, but look into the power build. With a skilled player, Rev can still do well. I know you said no to Meta, but look at it first then base your build on it. Unfortunately, rev doesn’t have a lot of flexibility when it comes to deviating from Meta currently.

Only 50% Energy

in Revenant

Posted by: Lonewolf Kai.3682

Lonewolf Kai.3682

Revenant needs more than 50% of it’s maximum for the other legends.

Not really. You get 50 energy when you switch legends. You can also build up past 50 to 100 while in combat if you don’t use any skills other than auto attack, but you always reset back to 50 upon legend switch.

Some examples, you’re on Shiro, and you use Jade Winds, now you’re down to zero energy, you switch to Glint, now you’re back to 50. Another example, you’re on Malyx and you haven’t used any skills and now have 90 energy, but you then use Embrace the Darkness for 2 seconds. Now, you have 76 energy left and you switch legends. You just lost 26 energy because you’re now reset to 50 energy.

Unless you’re using Invocation traits, you’ll want to avoid the later.

What Rev really needs is a removal of Cooldowns on all skills, especially considering the constant nerfs happening.

I was told on TeamSpeak that BlackGate all transferred to Maguuma. But when I try to transfer to BlackGate, it’s still full. Does the server take a while before the free slots open to the public?

Actually, no, the Tarnished Coast’s master race guild, TORK, and their leader, Zog, have transferred over to Mag.

Now you get to watch Mag crumble to T2 frequently.

Zog has been carrying us to victory all night, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Since when did Maguuma need help? Did you guys lose a bunch of players or something?

Who will the next legend be?

in Revenant

I do strongly believe that Longbow Pyre would be the best choice as both an additional ranged and we could easily put conditions on it for burning and poison/bleed, plus he actually done something major by starting the charr revelution against the flame legion oppresion which is actually more of a legend than most, traps would likely be the utility line but hopefully bring back the ranger “throwing traps” by letting us place them like wells.

Revenants are not tied to Utility types. Pyre might get 1 trap with everything else being something different. Even if he is not of the Flame Legion, Pyre is strongly themed towards fire, his initial Hero skills in GW1 reflecting that.

Ummm. Look at the Legends again and tell us they’re not themed…..

I kinda feel that it should be Pyre, many of the legends can be assumed by a race and charr do not have one yet, for that matter neither does norn. I get that people think he was a “normal ranger” but most of the legends are actually normal, the only true big deals are shiro due to all the stuff going on with him in factions and glint due to her being a dragon lieutenant that betrayed her master. Jalis was just a dwarf king, Ventari a centaur that accidently found the pale tree seed and mallyx was nothing more than a margonite.

The “charr legend” should be a Flame Legion spellcaster. They have some really cool and unique magic, that can’t be inherited by other professions in any way, and they have a lot of background lore of their own.

The obvious choice would be Bonfaaz Burntfur, the Flame Legion shaman who summoned the Searing of Ascalon. Alternatively, the Khan-Ur or the first Flame Legion imperator could work too, as new characters.

Pyre is a nobody, and that’s fine, that’s the point of his figure. If you make him some kind of legendary hero with superpowers, you’re ruining his character and what made him cool to begin with. Same for other characters that are usually suggested as legends.

New legends need to be powerful and/or use unique magic. Just taking GW1 characters and pushing them as legends won’t work, imo. Nostalgia alone isn’t enough. Leaving room for brand new characters would be positive too.

For sure Anet will steal the paragon from Guardian and give paragon to Rev trough Kormir.
Kormir fits well the class as well, she leeched all the way like hammer revs do >:|

Kormir fits the revenant a lot, because of the blindfold, but I’m not sure I would like channeling the power of a god like that. Even if they made an excuse like “you’re channeling her when she was human”, it’s kinda meh.

Also, we don’t channel Abaddon directly, but one of his servants, Mallyx, so it would be kinda unfair.

I wouldn’t count on it anyway, paragon themes belong in the guardian. Blindfolds should be usable by other professions than revenants as well.

Poobadoo will be the Next legend!

No quaggan/skritt/etc legends, please. Jokes shouldn’t be the driving force for any elite specialization.

If people is already kinda annoyed by Glint’s sounds, having some quaggan legend say “boo” every time you cast something would drive hatred against quaggan to the stars, specially when there’s so many ancient characters and race to choose from.

So please, don’t even think about it, even in jokes.

Pyre might’ve been just ordinary in your view, but he has become a Charr legend in GW2. They made a glorifying gigantic statue of him that even has its own Vista!

Not only that, he makes the most sense. He’s going to fill in the glaring lack of a condi ranged weapon.

Weapons/skills too limited

Lonewolf Kai.3682

I’ve been playing Rev since the beta before the beta. The skill sets are fine with their functions as it is. There needs to be some QoL or number tweaks (I’m looking at you Jalis), and maybe a few additional addins, such as another stun breaker or two, but that’s it.

There does need to be an additional mid range condi or hybrid weapon however, and I think GS, Short Bow, or Long Bow would be fitting here. Rifles or pistols don’t seem to fit the professions theme so I don’t think that fits here.

Lonewolf Kai.3682

Some of the posters here are either tunnel visioned or short sighted to look past the narrow minded Glint/Shiro only mindset. I’m not specifically saying this to you Buran, but to this forum in general. No offense.

To the OP, if you’re having survival problems, try using Jalis/Malyx combo, and use the staff for one of your weapons. Jalis and Malys both have heals that do not depend on further action from you or your target. Also, using Jalis’s hammers in combination with Devastation Assassins Annhiliation and Focused Siphoning trait gives you some nice healing and damage reduction. Malyx you’ll want to just use the Heal and Embrace the Darkness. The staff gives you healing from auto, if you pick up the orbs, a block, and a condi cleanse/heal.

Just watch your energy management with Jalis. He’s very energy hungry.

For traits, look at Devastation, Retribution, and Invocation. Stats, you can’t go wrong with Marauders or Zerks, or a combo of them.

But one thing you’ll notice is that Revs can’t juggle roles, while Eles as a design concept are essentially made for it. So expect to be disappointed with Ventari, unless you’re in a niche situation, and the rest of the team are built around you.

I’m not so sure I agree with you on juggling roles, depending on the situation of course. As an example, I play a hybrid build, using Glint and Mallyx. When I’m with my group, I have glint on in boonbot role and using the elite for CC. When I need to go damage, I switch to Mallyx. Similarly, if need to tank, I might switch out Glint with Jalis. On rare occasion, I’ll use Ventari for area control or (laughably) heal, condi cleanse, and projectile block.

I will agree that Ventari healing is disappointing. However, I’ve never maxed out my HP stats either.

Pyre Fierceshot and he’ll be bringing either Longbow or Shortbow. Weapon and Utilities will bring condi’s and traits will compliment them.

This will fill in the gap of the missing condi range, and secondary condi-legend.

Honestly though, I wish they’d just go ahead and make one of those bow options core already. It’ll be hard to let go of the dragon.

Why does Lege armor have to be tied to Raids?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lonewolf Kai.3682

Lonewolf Kai.3682

So basically people are salty that a prestige item is actually prestigious, rather than dirt common like the open world legendries.

This game’s entire progression system is cosmetics based. (since the devs don’t want vertical progression creep) At the end of the day some cosmetics have to be exclusive for the devs to maintain any kind of meaningful reward system.

Now you will get Astralpoling saying then it should have been a skin and not a legendary that they get as their reward…..

Well actually if it is just a skin and it’s supposed to be prestigious, then take it off Raids and slap it into the Gem Store with an extreme Gem value. Not many would be willing to shell out the cost if it’s super high on Gem cost.

Now in seriousness, I can’t speak for others, but I’m not asking for a freebie, or an easier way than Raids. Just an alternative way of getting the armor from content I’d rather play, like WvW.

Legendary Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lonewolf Kai.3682

So I spent most of my game time this weekend looking for a Raid group without success. I tried both the LFG and /w several known PvE guilds. No one would take me because of my lack in Raid experience. The only groups posting in LFG were Raid spot sellers, and a very rare occasional group that was looking for only experienced Raiders. I even politely asked if I could join one, only to be laughed at.

Next, I tried to organize a Raid beginners squad, which sadly didn’t even get to set foot in the Raid due to a lack of willing participants.

Finally out of frustration on Sunday night, I asked a couple of the Raid sellers how much they charged for help. The response I got was 150-300g, for a single boss, depending on the difficulty.

I’ll keep trying, but this definitely isn’t as easy as people think it is.

Sounds like maybe it’s just me having difficulties with it then.

I don’t run meta or use d/p.

Just train with it in the pvp lobby with bots, first npcs then beasts, then go for the lord, he has a breakbar. That should put you in the same situation as a guy with 4-5 stab stacks

My biggest issue is just sticking to a target that’s moving around. The stab/blocks helps them basically just walk away, resulting in just hitting, maybe, with the first strike and missing the second.

Because of the build I use, I only have steal for a shadow step. I’ll sometimes use scorpion wire, and SB 5 too.

heals for less than the ED charges overall

Might want to check your math there m8, oh wait I already did it for you. The overall heal from SV is much higher than ED, and your comment about interrupting the heal is not relevant since if either skill is interrupted then you get 0 heals. Go back to the Thief forums.

Might want to check your reading comprehension m8, I said the charges themselves heal for more not the overall heal from the initial heal, also the cast time is huge .5 sec is a much larger window to be interrupted Than the ED cast time which is why the initial heal is larger you can discount one facet of the overall skills balance.

I did see that and… really? Thieves have the best disengage ability, the only time you should be getting interrupted is when you step on a DH trap, which is pretty avoidable in the first place. And since you can disengage with SB 5, Shadowstep, simply Dashing multiple times via Signet of Agility, I’m not really sure how a 1s activation time on your heal is a big issue for you. I main thief, when I need to heal I move behind an object . 1s is not a big deal unless you’re consuming all of your initiative and dodges early, in which case, L2P.

I don’t disagree that 1/2s and 1s aren’t hugely different, but you should NOT be letting your heal get interrupted as a thief, you have every trick in the book to avoid those rupts. Revs along with every other class don’t have the luxury of disappearing at a moment’s notice, and yet many widely-used heals like Consume Conditions have a longer activation time. If you want to downplay SV’s superiority vs. ED then this should not be your main line of complaint.

But regardless, the guaranteed healing from SV is 2.5x larger than ED. I’d take that any day without complaint.

If Skelk Venom is so good why is it not used in any gamemode? And again the skills activation time is still what balances the initial Heal amount if you can’t grab that concept nothing can help you. it is not a guaranteed heal only in a perfect bubble like you are envisioning is it, especially with the amount of instant cast Ccs in game and Aoe CCs.

Ummm, because the other thief heals are tremendously better in utility? Guess what? Rev. Shiro doesn’t have that choice!

I’m familiar with some of the techniques to land it, but in practical use, most of the gimmicks you have to use for it are already needed just to get to the point of lowering the health enough for the skill to be of actual use. The problem in my experience though is that the skill inherently fails on its delivery, 8 out of 10 times, even with these gimmicks.

My experience is totally opposite but mine is a PvP perspective. I don’t play thief outside PvP. And it lands 9/10 times. This skill already incredibly useful. Any changes to it must be for non-PvP.

in Thief

Impacting Disruption (ID) has two “issues” currently. If an attack is performed between any sequence, it puts ID on cool down. Players can dodge but any attack including an AA, resets ID. Bandits Defense’s sequence does not work this way.

The second is that players that go into a downed state become invuln for a second. This makes timing ID’s final blow difficult. This was fixed in sPvP but not in WvW.

Beyond that, I really like the skill just wish it worked a little smoother.

I really like the skill chain, even with its glaring flaws. I still think sticking to the target with the first two strikes is a big issue.

What is this Ghost Thief I keep hearing about?

If this is sarcasm, ignore the reply.

A Ghost Thief build centers around stealth stacking to stay permanently stealthed and uses attacks that have no damage component so they are never directly revealed. This is mainly done with Needle Trap, Krait/Plex runes, Caltrops, Bewildering Ambush, Serpent’s Touch, etc.

Basically the only way to fight it is to run away after the first condi application, use a Disrupter trap or be on one of the few classes that has a non-targeted reveal such as Scrapper.

Oh yeah, the condi stealth trapper. Didn’t think that build was very dangerous unless a couple thieves run together with it.

On my mark is a skill which is already under used so couldn’t care at all lol. They kitten themselves by using it over other utils.

Stop caring about irrelevant stuff

I mostly run in WvW, so I can only speak for that. When I’m running a prof that has reveal available and I see a thief in the area, I switch a skill to it just for that.

A Little Healing Love?

Lonewolf Kai.3682

While I sort of understand the changes to Enchanted Dagger/Raising the Upkeep of Facet of Light, they came in the most nerftacular, hurtful way possible…

Okay, Enchanted Dagger was a huge damage boost, and sources of burst damage SHOULD be blockable/evadable, we get that… But why not raise the initial heal to compensate on the overall loss of healing here? Nobody would have cried foul if this was done—it would have been a way to nerf the damage of ED (the only part people QQ about), while not forcing the rev to have to play 100% defensive while in their most offensively minded stance. (Not to mention the fact that Shiro is now more of a must-have-legend due to the stability changes.)

As for Facet of Light and the raised upkeep, I guess this was intended for Raid Tanks or people playing hybrid builds, like Hybrid Sage or Power Mender. That’s all I can think of because 99% of revenants don’t have the healing power in their build to make the regeneration even noticeable. The big problem here though, is that most rev’s run passive Fact of Light in combat just to be able to pop Infuse Light while stunned. So now, effectively, we have to sacrifice a much more noticeable amount of energy regeneration to be able to have our invulnerability skill as an insta-cast. I don’t THINK that’s what they were intending to nerf here, but who knows? That’d be like if they added a cast time to Endure Pain, Elixir S, Signet of Stone, etc—or made those abilities drain adrenaline or whatever just for slotting them on your utility bar.

Confused Rev Rant Over.

Facet of Light upkeep was only for PvP.

Balance Changes Upcoming

A message from the Skills Team:

Similarly, there will be changes in boon duration and boon application for a few professions. For the Revenant, we’ll be looking at reducing Naturalistic Resonance’s base boon duration. For Mesmer, we’re looking at making Signet of Inspiration’s boon sharing functionality a bit more controlled, giving each shared boon a fixed duration. To help compensate for these general reductions, we’ll be increasing both damage and a few different baseline boon durations.

-The Skills Team

Gaile, can we get some clarification of this please? The way the paragraph reads, both Revenant and Mesmer were supposed to get a damage increase due to the nerfings listed. I didn’t see anywhere in the notes about Revenants getting the increased damage compensation stated here.

Should Impact Strike Chain be buffed?

in Thief

Posted by: Lonewolf Kai.3682

Lonewolf Kai.3682

Nope. It’s not meant to be a CC; BV is. Its true power is the finisher, and there are plenty of guides out there on how to make Impact Strike work almost perfectly every time.

Like Dagger Storm and TG, it has a niche, and it can be an absolute monster of a skill when played into it. BV is more or less the all-purpose thief elite, but it doesn’t really excel at anything except providing CC.

…Except the IP chain has two hard CC in it. Isn’t what you said a bit of an oxymoron? But, I get what you mean and agree with what you say here to an extent. The skill is about finishing off, the CC attached with it is only supposed to help you do that.

And the biggest problem is that short little distance does squat to get you to the target. Uppercut also misses half the time because of simply walking away; a dodge isn’t even needed to negate it.

The skill is very underwhelming in use. I’m actually okay with the amount of stab and blocks, it’s not being able to land the chain from simple walking away that I’m not okay with. The stabs and blocks basically negate the CC on the chain, and with the amount of it available, the skill chain might as well not even have it. Sticking to the target is the biggest violater here. Making IP and Uppercut shadowstep and giving them a range increase would do a world of wonders for the skill.

The boon steal with Steal + Impact Strike chain are one of the most deadly combos to a player who isn’t expecting to get CCed (a druid with his elite shout for example).

now you just need to get lucky to steal stability as druid pours dozens of other boons into himself every second

Steal will always strip stab (traited obviously)

this all assuming you don’t use steal at all in the fight, saving it for just this skill.

Let me ask everyone another question, what skill is on your Elite slot now? Yep, Basi.

If there’s a buff it deeply needs it’d be for PvE since the last hit is 100% useless there.

As for PvP it’s underwhelming on it’s own unless you support it with other skills, as mentioned~ it’d be nice it the timer between combos wasn’t so short.

Agree with the PvE thing.

I also have a problem with having to support an Elite skill with others. That says the skill isn’t good enough to stand on its own, and as an Elite, it should.

Second most common I see are the gremlins…aka asura.

We prefer shark-rat. And how are humans mice? Silly bookah.

I dunno. It’s just a common slur used for humans.

Should Impact Strike Chain be buffed?

As the title states, Should Impact Strike Chain be buffed?

Strictly speaking from a WvW view, I’m so tired of my elite skill being negated by the ungodly amount of stability and blocks in this game.

And not only that, but the fact that all a person has to do is walk away from the very short distance made by the first strike! What? Use Steal to get to the target? Two things answer that: 1 you’ve probably already used Steal during the fight and it’s on CD, 2 ungodly stability access.

So I ask again, should the Impact Strike chain be buffed?

Wow, some interesting convo. Didn’t expect this to turn into a 4 pager.

Just to add 2 more coppers to it, I don’t think we’re going to see this Sniper aspect. Thief is already thought of as a bursting class. You need to look at what other roles that are either missing or slacking from thieves. I think we’re going to see a support role personally, which would mean no high damage weapon.

That being said, I’d like to see an elite that concentrates on stealth.

they said slow range weapon
thief and slow dont work so well…:D

Oh great. SB is already slow!

I’d rather see main hand Sword or GS.

Maybe with rifle we’ll get a new stealth mechanic, i.e. Standing in place stealths you permanent until you move.

They’re not seriously considering another expansion now, are they? It’s only been a year since the last one, and it’s taken this long to fins some semblance of balance.

On topic: the positive part of getting rifle as an elite spec is that they can’t nerf something we already have in order to force us to buy it back. Yes, I am still bitter about that.

You do know they’ve been working on a new expansion for awhile now, right?

in other word u just want to buy it without putting any work into it. Nice try but NO.

Lol, who said I want to buy one? Perhaps I’ve nearly finished crafting one and now regret it and want a return of investment?

Don’t make assumptions please.

HoT Legendaries: FutureTP options?

Personally I would say no….Let us not go back to the biggest flaw of the first legendaries. Obviously the first legendaries need to stay in their state so that people can choose to buy if they want it but not want to craft it or if people want to craft it and then gain some money

Therein lies the problem though. If the HoT legs aren’t TP-able, doesn’t that restrict the way people choose to get them? Honestly, I think it’s a mistake on Anet’s part not to allow it. Think about it. People would be more inclined to purchase gems to convert to gold to buy them.

I doubt it. Making them account-bound was done for a number of reasons, and was likely a very involved discussion on the part of the development team. I don’t see them waffling on that decision.

Didn’t they say the same thing about the original set?

Love my rev. One of two of my mains.

Despite the negativity in this forum, I think it’s very well designed, even base rev. I think all that needs adjusting is some number tweaking.

Little bit of a mind tickler this morning.

Was running around WvW like usual, but something struck me last night. Almost every thief I ever see is a male/female human, or a male sylvari. What do yall thing are the rarest seen race/class combo’s?

Nearly every thief I see out in the field is either a mouse or salad….aka human or silvari.

Second most common I see are the gremlins…aka asura.

Next is the best race, Charr, of which I’m proud to be one, but also very rare out there. After all, it’s hard being sneaky as one of the biggest of the races.

And the rarest I see are the clumsy looking Norns.
