Thats game balance wise.
Weapon swap was needed yes, but a game balance decision.
All the “I want a fluffy dodge” “Work on this animation please” is what makes you spoiled.

I wasn’t going to make a comment on this nonsensical thead because the same attention was given to the other classes at their beta entries. Complaints like this and Halan are just ridiculous. However, as one who ASKED, not demanded as you indicated, for dodge fluff, I take a bit offense to this. How is asking for something on a class that’s being developed considered spoiled? That makes no sense.

You and Halan need to stop being green eyed monsters. Your class had beta treatment 3 years ago. It’s time for Revenants to have a turn now. Run along and play nice with the other children.

I’m kinda curious if this is still in development ‘cause it’d be a cool feature to have. If it isn’t, I won’t mind ’cause I know you guys have lots of balancing work for the revenant to do, especially after BWE2, and you are doing a great job at that.

roy stated somewhere else that next BWE there are coming many tweaks to the skills, a missing hand glow on ventari and the dodge animation ;-)

When I look at the revenant forum I get really jealous. Roy Cronacher is constantly talking to the players, listening to their suggestions, and keeping them up to date on what to expect. At one point a player suggested adding a mist effect on dodging and, within a short time frame, Roy took the suggestion and ran with it and now it’s a neat class feature. It is incredibly refreshing to see that kind of transparency.

On the other hand I don’t even know who’s working on the druid. Or who’s suppose to be responsible for the ranger for that matter. It bums me out.

I take credit for that suggestion. Needless to say but will anyways, I’m estatic about it.

I noticed this as well for the BWE2.

On a somewhat related note. Is it possible to not have our legend auras present when out of combat? The way it is now it seems the auras are always present (Which is why Ventari stood out XD).

Ugh, I’d rather seem them on all the time. Let’s you quickly know ahead of time what Legend the Revy is in if facing him before combat. Also, the Legend is supposed to be manifested with you at all times, not just out of combat. The arm glows sort of shows that. Plus, it’s a really cool effect.

I Voting for not seeing it out of Combat too! Or at all in PvE Content and make the Glow only for WvW/PvP were it matters?

I’d never expect this from a roleplayer…only reasonable complaint is about the screenshots since the effect is “in the way”.
No other reasons for me.

Well Roleplayers are annoyed by any unwanted Glow Effects (namly Elementalist Hand Glow, Guardian perma Aegis shield and now the Revenant Hand Glow) and not only for screenshots

I don’t understand why though. Don’t those effects define the class that your roleplaying with? Or, are you roleplaying as something besides what’s in the GW universe class? IE, you’re roleplaying as Wolverine from the Marvel Universe.

I’d guess that the 4th bonus will be on Heal and the 6th bonus on Legend swap.

Boring but versatile regardless of which Legend you’re using.

The # 4 is a good suggestion. #6 is too specific to the Revenant. My guess is it’ll be an elite skill use effect since we have two of them. Maybe Fury upon use of an elite skill; +5% damage when under the effect of Fury.

I like the idea of a weapon similar to what Spear does, range/melee and power/condi all in one weapon. Now obviously we wouldn’t necessarily need a power range combo since we have that already with Hammer, and we also have plenty of power melee, so I’d suggest it be a range/melee condi option, mostly ranged though. Greatsword would be a great addition to the Revy’s weaponry list here and could take it’s place. Why GS? Well we already have a main hand condi weapon, why not make a 2hander now? Plus, it’ll give me an excuse to take Eternity down off the shelf and actually use it.

I wonder if anyone used Protective Solace and Blinding Truths with Ventari in PvP? There’s no ICD to either trait so it’s pretty much AoE Protection and Blind every second if you keep moving the tablet.

I was constantly spreading out AoE Protection. Made a difference quite a few times.

There was a bug fix here and the redesign of a trait. Increased attack speed bonuses felt lackluster when you have access to Impossible Odds, which grants quickness. The increased attack speed values did not stack so I felt as if it was a good place to add in a damage multiplier that would also help out sword’s damage.

  • Rapid Laceration: This trait has been changed to Vicious Lacerations. This trait will now increase damage by 2% per stack while attacking with a sword equipped. This stacks up to a maximum of five times.

Oh no, not my forum cred! How will I ever grow to be a big respected forum thug if the little thugs don’t think I be keepin’ it real? Look, this is the Revenant forum. Its about to be the new Most Played Class in the Game, and a lot of people want it to be as strong as possible. No one coming here and saying “i think this revenant skill should have more counters in PvP”, no matter how polite they are, is going to expect any kind of nice treatment or respect. I’m not worried about it.

Deathshroud functions much like a healthbar. Necros typically dont die until they have exhausted both life force and health. You don’t stop DPS’ing a necro when he shrouds, because damage taken in DS is still real damage and reduces his life force total.
Deathshroud is not a counter to taking damage, its a mitigation.

I’m happy to discuss other falsehoods you believe i made, or parallels that aren’t clear, but quoting someone and saying “theres misinformation here” without pointing it out isnt constructive. constructive would be discussing ways the skill could be adjusted to be more effectively countered, or debating why those ways arent good, or putting forth a comparison to other skills which function similar and also dont have a counter.

Honestly, if you think Deathshroud is used as just another healthbar, then there’s no point in further discussion with you and pointing out your other mistakes. That’s an indication that you don’t know the other classes well enough to actually comment on PvP balancing.

The OP’s suggestion was to load more of the damage to the tail end, so a single dodge or block would have a bit more value. I suggested shortening the evade a bit, not removing it, so that an interrupt would be a more realistic counterplay. Another player suggested speeding up the whole skill, so that a single dodge would have more value. Another player suggested limiting the distance the skill can track to a certain AoE radius. Those are not cumulative, they are each singular ideas that might alone introduce much more counterplay.

Try focusing on that. Do any of those suggestions seem totally awful? If so, why?

Some of these suggestions are still nerfs when it comes down to it, especially OP’s.

Since you keep bringing up being able to interrupt, I’d propose another “nerf.” Leave the skill as is, but increase the windup time to 1 second so that it can be interrupted. I’ll be honest with you though, I never had a problem interrupting a Revenant when I saw what was coming. But I think an increase to 1 second is reasonable, and it would cause the Rev to have to use something ahead of time to get it to work, such as a knockdown, or immobilze.

Uh… that’s the point.

Wrong, Precision Strike is supposed to be a gap preventer not a gap closer. If anything needs changing, it’s range on the chill bolt.

Let me ask you will you just stand there and take any of the following low cd multi hit dmg skills for free?

thief pistol whip
guardian whirling wrath

You can easily interrupt the ability within its 3/4 cat with its super obvious eviscerate animation, at the start of the ability. You can also troll the Revenant by taking it to your team while he is in UA to kitten him with no remorse.

Also lets not forget the after cast time where you can get damaged very badly unless you spend energy to cast a skill to save you or use a dodge.

It was already discussed at length earlier in the thread that very long cooldown utility skills are not the primary counters to weapon skills, weaponskills counter weaponskills. In other words, immunities obviously can stop direct damage just like double dodge, but no skill in the game other than UA actually requires an immunity or double dodge to counter it for most classes. If you remove double-dodging and utility skills from your list, you will have the list I just posted.

DeathShroud is mitigation, not a counter. Deathshroud is a healthbar, the necro is not dead (generally) until he runs out of both healthbars.

Of all the comparable skills that you listed, every single one can be 100% countered with either 1 dodge OR 1 interrupt. That is a huge difference. Why does UA get a pass?

The 3/4sec tooltip cast time is not the same as “the period in which UA can be interrupted.” The backflip animation is much faster than that, and activation times (as you can see from looking at most skills on the wiki) are drastically different than listed tooltip times.

As far as constructive feedback, there was a great suggestion in either this thread or the other one that maybe UA could be countered by stopping when the target left the radius of the spell. This would introduce ride-the-lightning and weapon leap or movement skills as a counter. Not sure its the best idea, but it was good and constructive.

Yeah, I think having a higher CD on UA isn’t a good direction. I’d rather see no change to it now considering how that once it is learned is easy to counter/avoid/take advantage of, even with the evade on it.

If there had to be a change, than a damage redistribution to the last hit would be a better fix. Got to remember that Revenant is already weak on a couple things, such as conditions, and the evade on UA is very much needed.

Never did I say that all skills should have counters. I just pointed out that confusion isn’t really a counter for UA.

Do I think UA needs (more) counters? Probably. High damage, teleporting, might-stacking, 2-3 second evade on a 10 second cooldown (without adding benefits from traits or other skill synergy) is quite strong in my opinion. Though, I haven’t had the chance to test it personally yet, so I’m withholding my final judgment until then.

Then I regress. Still, once a person learns the skill, it’s very easy to avoid/counter with what is available now.

recommending that a bug stay in the game to “appease” the whiners is a terrible strategy.

The animation on Sword #2 looks like it messes up while using it and moving at the same time on a Charr toon. Instead of a nicely executed spinning slash, it’s a side to side slash, but looks a bit odd, like it’s bugging out. I’m not sure if that’s intentional or not. It works fine when stationary.

I’d personally rather have the use of a greatsword myself. I was looking forward to playing a Shadowknight(EQ2)/Dark Knight(FFXI) archetype and am sort of bummed i can’t use a greatsword.

GS would be sweet. Especially if they made it like the spear. Optional condi or power.

I find it funny that people complain about this easy-to-see-it-coming skill when mesmers and thieves still blast people to bits in a matter of a split second while doing it unseen!

As many people have stated, there are many counters to the skill, including simply interrupting it during the very obvious windup window.

Heck, I’ll even give you another counter to it. Slap a ton of condis on him. He won’t be able to cleanse many.

I actually like Ventari, epecially if I’m going to backline it. Also, if I know the group is about to move, I preemptively explode the tablet or just hit the auto run key and move the tablet with me.

Currently, UA counts as 7 separate skill uses, not 1. Whether it’s a bug or not remains up to Roy. Personally, it should remain so that it can be considered a counter, to keep all the “poor me, I can’t l2p” whiners that think it’s OP.

Hey,

First, I will say that so far I haven’t been able to dedicate time to try any of the other elite specs properly (maybe Reaper a little) besides Herald and Revenant in general. Magnificient work!

Now, the stuff. I think that Revenant is in a very good position with many builds right now, some stuff obviously needs couple changes like Ventari, Sword OH #5 and couple things in traitlines, but I believe Dev team will deal with those.

The only thing I believe that might be a little bit over the top is Unrelenting Assault. Now don’t understand me wrong, this skill is awesome and absolutely needed that evade frame. But I can see many complaints at Rev in the future specifically because of that skill and would like to prevent bad nerfs.

If you think it’s a problem – then I have simple solution.

Unrelenting Assault strikes 7 times, with last blow landing at primary target. Currently, the base damage of each attack is equal, so to it doesn’t matter which part you block or evade.

My suggestion would be: Lower the damage of first 6 strikes by ~10-15%, BUT move the lost damage to last, 7th hit and maybe increase it’s damage further to compensate

This way, we achieve couple things:

1. There is good counterplay for this skill. You will still take a lot of damage from UA Revenant, but if you time your dodge to mitigate 7th attack, you will negate the major spike. So timing your dodge is more rewarding, instead of randomly trying to block everything, you focus at the last hit.

2. It doesn’t hurt overall Revenant’s damage. As I said, last hit even with moved damage could still get some bonus damage boost so if someone is stupid enough to take whole chain, he gets hurt more. And more damage for PvE.

3. The skill would do more damage to your primary target when against many foes. Last hit does most damage, so the “negative” effect of multiple foes is negated a bit.

I know that this skill isn’t supposed to be balanced in 1v1 perspective as it’s only okay in teamfights. But we know that players complain mostly from 1v1 perspective and there will be QQ and crying.

I’ve been discussing this change with Phanta on his stream and couple other good players and friends of mine playing Rev and we think this change would’ve been legit.

Biggest issue I have with this is that it’ll just become another 100 Blades. It has the same mechanic, big hit on the last hit, and people will know that the 7th hit must absolutely be avoided.

At OP, the Ventair missing glow is a known issue and Roy has noted it.

On the hand glow functionality, I feel quite the opposite: I think the effect should be increased a bit more. Some gauntlets hide it too much. Also, it needs to stay on the hands all the time, not just in combat only.

Chaotic Release damage for being an elite needs a slight damage increase considering the sacrifice of burning the aura and the CD. Either that or reduce the cooldown.

skill 3 – Probably too powerful now, IMO. It does good damage (against a single target) and provides a long duration evade on a short cooldown. Compiling a list of potential changes I have heard from others and come up with myself to resolve this: (1) increase cooldown to 15 seconds; this makes the Rev think a little more about when to use Sword#3, rather than just getting great damage and evasion every 10 seconds; (2) increase energy cost to 20, with the same rationale as option 1; (3) back load the damage by reducing the first 6 hits and increasing the damage to the primary target on the last hit. This gives opponents more opportunity to mitigate damage by focusing on avoiding the last hit (adds counterplay), and increases the Rev’s damage to the primary target when there are lots of targets around. I don’t think all of these should be implemented, but one or two of them would put Sword #3 in a good place, IMO.

Any of these suggestions are bad and would pretty much cause the skill to be useless.

It doesn’t need a CD increase. It’s already hampered by a cd, which is currently in a good place atm, AND has an energy cost to it. If the CD is going to be increased, then it just needs to lose the energy cost altogether to balance it.

Having an increase in energy cost is no good because you also have to take into account all the other energy burn you are already putting out from other skills. In most fights, I usually was only able to pull off 1 UA. There wasn’t much time for more than that. If there’s going to be a 20 energy cost to it, then the CD needs to go to balance it.

Backloading the brunt of the damage to the 7th hit isn’t any good either because then people will simply wait until the 7th hit. 100 Blades already suffers from this problem, UA doesn’t need this issue too. Everyone knows that the last hit on 100 Blade will almost never hit.

IF anything needed changing on this skill, it may be the damage coefficient, but in all honesty, Sword 3 is supposed to be the burst skill. It’s already fairly easy to mitigate. It’s just a learn to play issue really. People said the same thing about Rapid Fire too, and it’s even ranged!

Invocation is the class mechanic traitline. All classes have one. I’m not sure you can really argue against that. /shrug.

Hi again Kai. I know it is the “Class Mechanic Traitline” not arguing against that. I was just saying it’s much more pushed towards offense (Fury, Might, Crit, Damage Modifier, Unblockable Strikes) and utility (Stun Break, Condition Removal) than tanking & healing.

Oh okay. I guess I can see that. Personally, I miss the old healing orbs trait that summoned up to 3 orbs that orbited you until you switched Legends, which then healed you.
