crying against bug fixes. love it.
Yeah? How about a bugfix that hinder rev?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/revenant/Revenant-bug-list/first
It is rather funny that the bug fixes lately have been effective nerfs. Wish they’d bug fixed the ones that would actually benefit us. Let’s think positive: they wanted to bug fix nerf before the bug fix buff so that it wouldn’t OP’er the Rev…….
Jalis nerf hype!
How about we reduce surge damage by 35% more and reduce it cd to 15 already?Considering how hard they nerfed the CC…
I mean.. why they just wont take a look at my document and start balancing for real? They dont know their game, they dont know hat to do with rev either and yet they dont care about any form of a feedback at all which recent changes proves that.
Don’t take this offensively, but some of us would rather your ideas not be implemented. Though, I do like some of your Ventari ideas.
IMO, I think Revenant is getting closer to a good spot in terms of balance. It just needs a lot number tweaks/QoL adjustments.
Fify.
I’m not sure I understand that. Sorry.
IMO, I think Revenant is getting closer to a good spot in terms of balance. It just needs a few number tweaks/QoL adjustments.
Revenant:
•Rite of the Great Dwarf: Fixed a bug that caused this skill to reduce damage additively rather than multiplicatively while under the effects of a trait.
•Surge of the Mists: Reduced the damage of this skill by 15%.
You guys have it allllllll wrong. BG is winning because [Pugmanders] moved there a few weeks ago and is kicking so much tail. Yes…. We are that good.
/em Flex
Yeah, I’m a bit worried they are going to overnerf Revenants too. Right now, it’s been my favorite class since pre-beta. I’d hate to see it go down the drain.
You’re “rant” about nerfing in other games reminds me of DAoC when the Vampiir class came out. It was new and many people didn’t know how to counter it, and yeah, it was a bit OP’d. It just needed a small numbers tweak, but they overnerfed it and people stopped playing it.
I personally feel that Revenant is pretty close to being in a good spot. It just needs some QoL adjustments.
One of the only things I like about Ventari Revenant over my druid is that if I see an ally about to go down I can basically throw the source of my projectile defense and healing across the field. It’s a very clutch move that can give your ally the breathing room he needs to recover and keep fighting. Usually it buys me enough time to then move myself over to peel enemies off my ally.
True, that’s a good point to having a stationary (moveable?) rock vs a following rock.
- Protective solace is in a good place IMO but perhaps giving it a pulsing vigor would be better.
Sounds like you meant replacement. My bad if you meant otherwise.
In this case I used “giving” as in "Giving X (Effect) to Y(Skill) .
Usually this isn’t misinterpreted.
Eh, that’s not how the sentence reads, but whatever. We’re arguing over pointless grammar. I understand what you mean now. You mean in addition, however, that’d make the skill OP imo. You’d have a projectile block, which is already pretty powerful, and a Vigor on top of it? I can already hear the tears falling from forum grievers.

lol, Revenant has the highest mainhand sword autoattack DPS in game
Hello, its 2016 here. How 2015 is doing?
Daredevil uses staff for DPS. What other class uses mainhand sword for DPS?
Mesmer is the lowest DPS ingame. Their sword autos did about 30% less damage than thief sword before thief sword was even biffed.
Ranger sword DPS is only slightly above mesmer.
I mean, how hard is it for you to understand that Herald DPS tests put him at 30k DPS while mesmer and ranger, the only two other sword users, are 24k DPS and below?
You are conveniently ignoring guardians, warriors and thieves. The last one is the actual holder of the strongest sword AA it’s just that other weapons have a even higher AA DPS.
To add to this, comparing same weapon types of each class is very pointless and a wrong way of thinking. You need to look at the function of what the weapons are supposed to be/designed to be doing. In this case if a comparison of Revenant Sword, a power DPS weapon, is to be made, you need to look at other classes’ power DPS weapon. Other profession’s swords aren’t necessarily performing the same function as the Revenant sword.
Example, comparing a Revenant Mace to a Guardian Mace. These two have completely different functions even though they are both the same weapon type. One is a condi weapon, the other is a bunker utility weapon.

No no, PS is what redeems this Legend in the first place. Removing the projectile blocks in place of vigor is a bad idea.
Need to answer a few questions first:
What role do you want to play in WvW? Roaming, Small group (Havoc/+), Frontline Zerger, Backline Zerger?
Do you want support, DPS, combo?
What type of damage do you want? Power, Condi, Hybrid?
I will add that Hammer is a given in WvW. You’ll need it always.
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
From my understanding :
- Jalis is designed as the bunker.
- Mallyx is designed as the condi creep.
- Shiro is designed as the power creep.
- Ventarii is designed as a rear line support.
- Glint is designed as the front line support. And the main issue of ventarii is simply the stone that is more a deadweight than anything. For me what it need is a default follow mode and make the utilities skills, that are not the healing skill, ground targeted. From my point of view it would solve 80% of the issues of this legend.
Agreed. There are others in the forum however who think that a follow mode would make the Legend OP. I disagree. There are ways to balance it.
Hey all,
The bug has been smote and we’ll be re-enabling this trait later today/tonight.
Thanks for the news Gaile!
I’ve actually found a new love of Swift Termination however! I forgotten how fun that trait can be too. It’s gonna be a hard decision for me now. I dunno though… Jalis Hammers + Assassin’s Anni is a nice combo when facing the zergs……
You’re not forced into something you don’t like, though. If you don’t like complexity or more micromanagement, you can always run Tempest for example.
Maybe I worded my “4 reasons” not clear enough – what I meant was to list main reasons why people who would like to play the Legend don’t do it. There’s no point in including “I don’t like the gameplay” among those reasons, imo.
Not everything has to appeal to everyone. If it was to be like that, there would be nothing unique.
And again, I’m just stating the reason I always hear why people don’t like Ventari. I can name only 2 people who use Ventari in WvW of a T1 server, and I’m one of those. Like me, the other guy only runs it once in a blue moon.
In this case, I think the Legend has a problem, especially if there’s only like 1 or 2 out of 100 using it.
Just heard in WvW that stealth skills on thieves got reduced by one second. I didn’t see this in the patch notes. Is this true?
Still, most people don’t use Ventari because of the micromanagement, like it or not. It has nothing to do with small changes. It’s the entire mechanic people don’t like.
In all honesty, I’d rather see an increase in energy cost rather than having any type of CD.
Wasnt you the one who defended cd on PT? Hmmm..
Heck no! That wasn’t me. I have always advocated against having any sort of cool down on weapon or utility skills at all ever since pre-beta.
Being a realist =/= naysayer.
That being said, I’ll be a naysayer: getting new weapons isn’t going to happen.
In all honesty, I’d rather see an increase in energy cost rather than having any type of CD.
As posted in the Bugs Sub-Forum, we have disabled Assassin’s Annihilation while it is undergoing a bug fix. Click the link for a bit more info.
That makes me sad. Not the unintended 2k+ bug, but the loss of the extra life leech from the trait…. and having to wait a week to get it back.
In general, I could give four bullet points explaining four main reasons why you don’t see any Ventari Revenants:
- 1. Druid exists. And it’s not burst healer – it’s burst and sustain healer. It not only brings heals, but also unique damage buffs, most importantly Grace of the Land. If Celestial Avatar went to 15-20s CD, problem would be fixed, but that would require lowering powercreep.
- 2. Ventari has no real defensive ability to prevent focus or lower damage it takes for some period of time. Now you can at least knockback foes with #0, but it doesn’t help much.
To improve Ventari here, Protective Solace should do something more than just block projectiles – it should be something Ventari Revenant could use to lower the pressure.
- 3. Ventari has no stunbreak. Stunbreak on Purifying Essence or Elite would fix the problem.
- 4. Salvation specialization is outdated, but most importantly, doesn’t synergize enough with concepts behind Ventari. Legend has been tuned to have it’s healing output based on very high +% outgoing healing bonuses, but Salvation doesn’t give enough +% baseline. Almost all bonuses like these require specific gear, traits that restrict more valuable utility choices in same tiers (condition cleanse for example).
- How to combat this?: Salvation Grandmaster minor increasing outgoing healing % by 15% (same as Tempest and less than Druid which weren’t balanced as much around this and have stronger base heals) should probably be bumped to 30-50%, so any Ventari Revenant picking up Salvation can play Legend as it was meant to be played.
These would be my top 4 reasons.
While those are your top 4, I’d add in that one of the biggest probable reasons is the tablet micromanagement needed to play Ventari. I hear this, and I include myself in it, as one of the most common reasons.
Oh geez, those animations are even more horrid!!!! I’d rather keep the anims on the sword as is if that’s the alternative!
Ok. All projectile skills causes anni to proc 2k damage. Hammer bolt, sword 2, Jalis hammers, projectile from staff 3, axe 4.
Thansk to it Jalis is somewhat viable now for dps. UA+hammers hurts a lot hehehe
LOL! Jalis is going to get some serious use now!
Just a thought here, but:
For each second of cool down added to the skills, a part of the idea/mechanic/etc. of the Revenant goes away.
Dear Anet, please stop adding cool down increases to a class already limited by its energy supply. You’re double limiting us enough.
The tablet requires too much micromanaging,
This is my biggest problem with the Legend.
If 6 could be made to move the tablet to the Revenant without having to ground targeting, that would be a tremendous QoL!
Can someone explain this to me?
“•The following skills and traits have had their Life Steal functionality standardized, fixing several exploits and bugs across the game:
Revenant:
•Enchanted Daggers
•Assassin’s Annihilation
•Focused Siphoning”
And also:
“Sigils:
•Sigil of Blood
•Sigil of Leeching”
What does it mean “standardized”?
Thanks for the help!
You guys are doing Shiro completely wrong. He’s one of the betters.
For the heal, don’t think of it as a traditional heal. If you are, you’re using the heal wrong.
Think of it this way: a Ranger doesn’t use Troll Unguent when he’s sitting at 10% health does he?
A ranger uses troll unguent and kites around while he regen up hp. A Shiro rev has to be in your face, trade hits and on top of that deal with interval between daggers cus reasons. On top of that he has to be careful for enemy deflect/reflect and anything else related to projectiles like terrain.
See the difference? A mesmer can just put confusion on you and call it a day. If you try to heal up, youll die. If you wont do anything, youll die. Shiro heal is also TERRIBLE when you using hammer. Its one of the worst heals ingame that lack synergy with everything that inst hurr durr unre assault for save 3 proc.
And while we are at confusion.. what ranger with troll doing? Stealth, run in circles, creates a gap and he regen up. Your comprasion is so wrong on so many levels that i dont know really.
I’m not meaning a direct comparison of Rev Shiro heal and Ranger Troll heal. What I mean is that the Shiro heal is a preparation heal, not a heal when you’re life is low, just like Troll Unguent.
Thought it was easy to figure out the context there…. guess I was wrong.
In all honesty, I’m not sure why you’re facing so much trouble with Shiro Heal. When I use it the way it was meant, I hardly ever have an issue. But then again, I’m still playing my Revenant as a main.

I’m on quite the opposite spectrum. I’ve switched to Revenant as a main, and haven’t switched back since.
And Dante…. seriously? Thief is far superior? Ask that in the Thief forums. :p
I’m fine with it. Love the class still, and I was a tester before the betas started.
I think Ventari needs fixing well before Jalis. At least Jalis can be used in most content. Ventari is only useful in maybe 5% of the game….. and that’s pushing it imo.
I’d actually argue Jalis’ usefulness with what most of you are saying. I use Jalis a lot. My issues with him is that the skill costs seem to be a bit high across the board, and the Road needs to apply instant stability and then pulse on the road.
No thanks on the Pistols or Rifles. I already hate the fact that they’re in the game now.
Personally, I’d love to see the GS added.
Just make the #6 skill be instant and then go from there.
This and make the tablet automatically summon for free when you swap to Ventari. It’s the only legend with a time and energy tax before you can even use its skills.
Just make the #6 skill be instant and then go from there.
Exactly.
I’d be okay with that I think. I still think 6 would need a bit more healing to the Rev however.
It wouldn’t take much to balance it. Energy cost increase for example.
Rym’s thread still doesn’t address the horrid micromanagement that the Tablet requires. And once again, like Burtik’s suggestions, I don’t agree with most of his changes.
Ventari is useless for PvE now…..
It’s still an awful legend.
Please not the follow idea again it would make Ventari even harder to balance than it currently is while giving very little benefit. It also takes a lot of flavor making Ventari a inferior tempest.
A better approach is can be seen in either Ryms, Burtniks or my thread.
Eh, not sure that’s a better approach. The least problematic and possibly easier change would be to have the tablet follow you. Also, I don’t necessarily agree with Burtnik’s changes at all anyways.
I can’t seem to find Rym’s change thread and am unable to remember what he was proposing, so I can’t reply to that.
In this case you might as well remove the tablet ad make these “regular” skills. But tbh nothing will be done about Jalis, Ventari or Mallyx. Its gw2 after all
That’s a good point, and I’d actually be okay with that honestly. I really just can’t get behind Ventari anymore. It is so situational at best, and even then, it’s still not a good choice to make compared to the other legends.
It’d be nice for the next Elite Spec to be able to switch out a core Legend. I’d dump Ventari in the trash as soon as it became available!
I tried revenant leveled it to 80 in few days but got bored of it i am not a fan of hammer models and the playstyle of revenant for me was boring as hell and it did not help when there is so few utility stuff compared to older characters but mostly its the playstyle that i didn’t like or really understood it just felt boring.
It’s quite the opposite for me. I tried playing some of my other classes again but seem to find them boring compared to Rev’s. However, I don’t stick to just only 2 Legends and never change them. With the exception of Ventari, I actually switch them out frequently. Perhaps that was your problem? You stuck to only 2?
Also, there are other weapons available to Rev’s than hammer.
Anet should’ve just added the Ritualist instead of this buggy, broken, boring, lackluster class. Don’t get me wrong I played the rev a lot at first. I even got map completion with my rev along with completing both HOT and the GW2 core story. I also played a lot of pvp and wvw with my rev, but this class does’t have much utility variations to work with and it’s mechanics quickly became boring to me.
It’s soooo boring and broken yet you took the time to do total map completion and even finished the core story…… <sarcasm on> Yeah, sounds like you got real bored of it quickly…… <sarcasm off>.
The way the tablet works is what just kills Ventari. Since mobility is such a high factor in this game, the tablet is a mechanic that needs a serious overhaul. Changing the tablet to follow the Rev would solve this problem. In this case, the position would be handled by the Revenant’s own position and they could actually contribute to DPS rather than micro manage the tablet.
Why is the ventari heal the way it is? that is probably the biggest reason why it is not being used, there is no heal. Secondly, by default the tablet should follow the user around. You can make Ventari’s will a utility skill..
I won’t comment on the rest of the post, but will comment on this particular part because it is a sorely needed change.
Ventari is held back tremendously because of having to micro manage the tablet. The way it works makes it not worth taking because you end up managing only the tablet and not being able to do anything else. This game’s high mobility also makes it a problem. The tablet NEEDS to follow the Rev.
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
This!!! +1!!!
I rarely ever use Ventari because of this, not to mention the self healing is nonexistent. The tablet should follow the Revenant around all the time. 6 can be converted to a self heal or a self-regen.
Just had a wild idea for the next elite spec…. yes, I know, another one of those, but here it goes: Blademaster, which gives the Engie of course the Blade Kit.
This kit gives the all the bladed weaponry types in the game. A sword, a dagger, greatsword, and an axe, each corresponding to the 1-4 keys. What about 5 you say? That could be an ground area of attack skill in which the Engie throws all 4 weapons at the circle.
All four weapons could just be autoattacks that do different things. Like 1 could be the sword which results in a vulnerability debuff, 2 could be the daggers that adds slowness, 3 the greatsword could be a weakness debuff, 4 could be a throwing axe that Cripples.
There are several mechanical type blades in the game already, so the animations could simply borrow them. And each school would give the Engie a default weapon in hand, like how the other weapon kits do.
The backpack of course would be a massive, multi-scabbard, that holds them.
The F function key of the kit could a similar skill to 5, except that instead of just damage, actually throws all the debuffs available from the Engie to the target, akin to Revenant Herald’s Facet of Nature active, except in the opposite manner.
The elite weapon would be one of the bladed weapons of course.
I dunno, just a wild idea I had. Thoughts?
EDIT: It’s been awhile since I played my Engie last. I didn’t even realize they took the kit backpacks away….
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
Just play something else, man. Sad to say it, I really am. I’ve loved Thief since beta, but as of now, when I played my Thief, I lost just about every ranked game. Swapped to a support Ele and started winning.
I wish this game were more about skill than about the class you’re playing.
maybe you started winning with support ele because it actually requires less skill than thief.
Oooooh! I heard the sizzle from that way over here! <Sniff Sniff> Yeah, I smell that burn now. Crispy!
What is the d/p rotation?
5-2
That’s hilarious!
Revenants have better shadowleaps than we do.
I think you might be stretching that one a bit too far honestly.
It’s meant to be a utility weapon, people.
It’s like complaining staff on guardian is a bad weapon. It isn’t. The purpose is AOE tagging and support/utility. Shortbow is literally the same thing.
Single-target DPS/burst for ranged is P/P.
Thief absolutely DOES NOT want or need a huge nuke on a ranged weapon, particularly a single-hit one. Gun Flame wars and TS DH’s are bad enough. We don’t need to be doing the same thing from stealth.
And before people say the coefficients are too high on those skills, and that the thief’s could be lower; they’re not even close to what would be allowable. We have so many ways to stack damage modifiers. Unload can do more damage than most ranger’s RF’s, even when they build for nuking with RF, yet it has less than 2/3 of the damage coefficient. Any kind of single-hit ranged burst without an obvious tell is a huge problem, and since we have stealth access, the tell would need to force the revealed debuff during casts, which hurts the gameplay of the set more and makes the set more gimmicky rather than fluid and functional across all skills.
We’re in power-creep wars 2 right now. There’s no reason to request for silly changes/buffs to cohesive weapons just because the new FoTM elites are broken beyond all comparison. I can understand requesting the next elite spec to feature a longbow/rifle due to our lack of 1200 range options. We don’t need more potency at 900, though, and shortbow doesn’t need a re-design just because it’s not 100-0’ing people in one skill at range.
Any kind of long-ranged damage or burst coming from the thief is going to have to be playing heavily with the Revealed mechanic as to enable counterplay if balance is going to be even remotely considered. It’s ranged damage or stealth. Pick one.
Let’s not compare class weapon sets with class weapon sets. I think that makes a poor argument, and besides that, I also personally hate being stuck with the Guardian staff when switching to it too. It’s one of the reasons 9 times out of 10 I don’t run with it.
No, the shortbow doesn’t need a huge overhaul at all. I’d just like to see something else on it besides utility.
As far as the power creep goes, I don’t see that going away anytime soon. If some skillsets are going to compete with power creep wars2, then there needs to be something done. Yeah, that’s a slipper slope, but I think GW2 has already been sliding down it.
You also have a very good point about being stealthed and using the skill, but we also have several skills that have high damage already from stealth. However, I can see the point. What about changing the stealth attack that’s on Shortbow in this case?
The shortbow is mostly garbage except for its one awesome teleport skill. What it is lacking is the True Shot skill from the guardian. How the thief missed out on a big shot on one of their weapon sets is sort of astounding to me.
It is the best weapon a thief has for the current pirate ship meta in WvW and remains a solid way to “build stacks”. I would not remove its “bounce” for this reason.
Well I wouldn’t say it’s mostly garbage, but I think this post has a good point. I didn’t think about the tagging aspect and how much it’d be missed, so yeah, I agree scrapping the bounce hit wouldn’t be good. Perhaps having a True Shot of sorts would be good in this case. What would it replace though? 2 is good for blasting fields. 3 is an okay evade, sort of. 5 is a good teleport. Only one I can think of that could be replaced is 4, the poison shot.
Judging from the other posts, maybe it’s just me, but I hate when I need to switch to short bow and then I’m stuck with it for 10 seconds when still in a fight.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but one of the common complaints I see about Shortbow is it’s damage. Oh, but then the utility is just out of sight and makes up for it’s lack of damage, and I can agree with that. However, how would you feel about the idea of taking away the multiple hits from the autoattack and increasing it’s damage as a one target hit instead?
