Working as intended:
“Gain toughness for each point of upkeep you are currently using.”
1 point = 1 energy point spent. EtD for example spends 8 energy per second, so that’s 8 points. Therefore 8 × 40.
Upkeep skills means any skill that has a continuous energy cost per second to use. Therefore, it isn’t limited to Glint skills only.
I’d rather the Energy not be removed since it’s what balances the skills to have a low Cooldown in the first place. With this in mind, I certainly would not want to see Cooldowns increased because of energy removal.
Not massive increases in the CDs…just some adjustments. I think Energy Costs hurt the flow of the weapons to be honest. Just my opinion here!
Also, I don’t agree with your changes to Invocation and Retribution. First, Invocation is not the Offensive line, Devastation is. Invocation has to do with Switching Legends, the class mechanic, and removing Shrouding Mists makes no sense. Not only that, the incoming damage reduction is extremely useful! Second, removing Unwavering Avoidance from the Retribution line would be removing a source of Stability, which is already hard to come by for a Revy. If anything, it should be buffed to longer duration Stability.
I think Invocation can be considered a “Utility” line. Has some offensive and some defensive stuff in there.
The reason I don’t like Shrouding Mists is because we already have lots of Traits that say “you take reduced damage” and “your outgoing healing is increased”. That space can be used for something much more interesting.Unwavering Avoidance giving longer (4 Sec?) Stability is totally fine in my book. Better that way even! The Protection on dodge i suggested combined with all that damage mitigation and heal traits could become very OP.
Well the weaponskill CDs don’t need to be increased at all. In fact, some of them are too high now.
Invocation is the class mechanic traitline. All classes have one. I’m not sure you can really argue against that. /shrug.
However, I do agree that the outgoing healing portion of Shrouding Mists could be changed, since a lot of that is in the Salvation line. That being said, the second portion, that being reduced damage, is extremely useful. I’m actually going to stack it with the other damage reduction traits for a tanky build I have in mind.
Its mechanic change is just a set of boons.
I disagree with this completely. Not only is there synergy with the boon auras and the traits, there’s also the actives. In fact, I’m more excited about the actives than the “set of boons” as you put it.
Hi Roy!
Would you consider removing the Energy cost from Weapon Skills while tweaking their cooldowns?
If anything needs to be removed, it’d be Cooldowns, not Energy, but that may also make them potentially overpowered.

Forgot to add my reason why I’m changing mains to Revy.
Absolutely love the look of a Heavy armored Charr, I have both a Warrior and a Guardian. I also liked the idea of an Elementalist, that is being able to switch “modes” with attunements. However, they were missing one of two of my favorite things in a fantasy game: Swords. Also, I hated that you had to constantly switch attuments on CD to be effective. So, when Revy came along, I just absolutely fell in love!
What’s really neat about the Revy is that you could very well never meet the same one twice due to being able to use different thematical utlities. Heck, I plan on actually changing my Legends, using all 5, quite frequently in one play session.

Do you have even the slightest evidence that GW2 is the single exception to this rule?
No?
Somehow, I didn’t think you did.
Saying that GW2 is not free to play, and that the reason it’s currently free to play is not because it has failed, is simply denial. That’s, well, a fact and the only truth. If you think otherwise, I dare you to prove it, because I know you can’t.
No, no. The burden of proof lies in your corner m8. You are the one stating GW2 is failing. You have to provide the proof for that. We are calling your statement false, now you have to prove it otherwise. So far, the only “evidence” you have is examples of other games. That’s not proof.
Now, I’m not commenting on the armor part, because I too would like to see more armors in the game, not just outfits. Mostly because the more armor choices there are, the less likely someone is to copy my style. So, I’m staying out of that argument. With one exception: in terms of 3d software/meshes/textures (ie the making of the armor) GW1 armor was a single piece armor. GW2 armor is 6 pieces. Just throwing that out there. Do with it what you want.

I play everything, but I’ll definitely be focusing on Revenant for HoT launch.
I’d certainly hope so! :p
I was about to scoff at the “everything” comment, but then I thought, that’s actually a good idea for balancing.
Like I said before, the stats are not tanky stats. Armor and Vit are very low.
how to say it more kindly I would not raid or do dungeons with you for anything in world …
Well no offense, but I wouldn’t dungeon with you either. The word tank and dungeons should never go together in current dungeons. Now, DPS and ‘Zerker on the other hand…. Raids we know nothing about so I’m not sure if you can really justify that at the moment.
Lastly, I’d suggest putting in what this build is for in your OP, since I thought you were talking other purposes than PvE, especially when you mention the word tank in it.
My misunderstanding.

Really? Because which MMORPG has changed its business model to free to play because its previous business model was a big success?
The Old Republic? Even its parent company admitted it was a failure.
ESO? They are still suffering layofs.
Wildstar? LOOOOOOOOOOOL!
But hey, you can continue to ignore everything related to facts and evidence and assume that everything is fine. It will make it much funnier when reality comes crashing down around you.
Are you seriously claiming GW2 is a failure and that going f2p is your evidence? Really? I mean, I understand the desire for more armor, but gw2 is a failure?
I’ll gladly pay for armors in the gem store, as long asthey are mix’n match…
^ this. I was quite disappointed when they said they wouldn’t sell anymore armor skins through the GStore anymore.
(edited by Lonewolf Kai.3682)
Those stats for either build are no where near Tanky status.
I’m not saying there bad, but I wouldn’t call them Tanky.
@Kidel, nice power stat!

LEEEEEEEROY JENKINS!
He blinded charged into combat….
Too far of a stretch? ….Ok.
If by ‘maining’ a toon you mean which will I be logged on for the majority of my LA idle time. Definitely Rev
That’s all you do when playing the game? Eh, whatever floats your boat I guess.
My signature says it all.
I will also be playing my Thief and Necro, but Revy will be the main.
Legendary Assassin Stance
This stance had a lot of positive response, but based on feedback I felt as if we could really improve the feel and flow of this stance. A big one was allowing Phase Traversal to work like other teleports so it still would go up to the 1200 distance if used on a target further away then that.
- Phase Traversal: This skill can now be used on a target out of range to close the distance similar to how Infiltrator’s Signet on thief works.
This feels too mobile because it is a repeatable skill: if you have 50 energy and you use it 3 times in a row travels you 3600 distance straight away(some energy regens during the time). I feel like it was in a good place before the change.
I’ve got a better idea. The skill should teleport you towards your target even it its out of range but that also puts the skill on like a CD like 5 or so. However, if you use it from within range it doesn’t have CD.
That’s a terrible idea, and not necessary. If you were to use that skill 3 times in a row, you’d be left with no energy.
All of the weapon skills already have cooldowns, so what is the point of them consuming energy too? Thief utilities don’t consume initiative. Will it really be that op if the weapon skills don’t consume energy?
To keep the CDs low. In return, the CDs are there to keep the energy costs low and prevent weaponskill spam. If one or the other were gone, the cost would go up to balance it.
Rifle might make a cool condition weapon.
I seriously hope not. They need to do something unusal, like a dagger as a condi range weapon.
How is that more unusual than a weapon only used by 2 professions?
Except that it’s already a ranged weapon. Dagger is not a ranged weapon.
For vacation planning purposes, are prepurchasers going to get any type of headstart similar to core game release date?

Overpowered Once Again
And I currently main a thief….
Real question is: Will there be a early access? I must know so I can put in my Vacation days!
Yeah, same here. I’d like to know if prepurchasers will be getting early access. I gotta put the days down too!
So we know about raids f2p and release date, not sure what they’re gonna talk about tmrw. Super excited now though
Pardon my ignorance, but what is f2p? Free to play?
I used to main a DPS Ranger, and the only condi cleanse I had was Healing Spring, and a lot of times, I would use Troll Unguent instead.
Condi’s where my weakness, but I did fine without it. This is of course before the Trait redo.
No, I’ve got no problem with it. It’s fine as it is.
Tanky point holders need to be able to be countered by something. UA is perfect for it.
Tanky pointholder’s are countered by high mobilety and rotations. But with this skill you can engage any point and immediately neutralize the point. You don’t even need damage in a teamcomp to win games with this. You could basicly stack up on 5 bunker’s, where two are revenants and just controll points with displacement.
Hmm, maybe, but most of the tanky pointholders I see do quite well despite mobility and rotations. If they aren’t, they are more than able to comfortably sustain enough to have a teammate come over to assist.
Also as stated, if you UA constantly, you’re gonna lose. That will drain you, and leave you with nothing else.
I would concede to larger point areas though. It needs to be done anyways, even without Revy’s.
It cancel itself if someone stand next to wall or goes invis.. I hope that stuff will get fixed.
I don’t think it’s ever going to chase someone down while they’re in stealth. Would be a little strong >.>
Is rapid fire too stronk as well? Is killshot too stronk as well? Or volley? Is every other channeled ability in this game too stronk just cause it track people in stealth? Yeah i thought so.
If someone is stupid enough to go invis while being attacked by channeled ability, thats his own mistake and should get punished for it. Decent players adapted long ago. Sword 3 is also nothing but channeled ability and should track like every other ability. Simple as that.
It does more damage than any of those attacks, is already less counter-able than all of those attacks, cannot be LoS’d like all of those attacks, does not leave you wide open like all of those attacks, makes you immune to incoming attacks unlike all of those examples, and already counters blinks/portals/LoS unlike any other high damage attack.
It’s already become an easy-mode button. I don’t know how much more you want.
You’re forgetting one very important key note: the attack is spread out to multiple targets in the area and is not single target, unlike all of those other channeled abilities. This targetting also includes, clones, pets, minions, etc, etc.
If you’re going to argue that 1v1 makes it OP, this game isn’t balanced for 1v1. Therefore, it’d be a nil point.
Geez, the thief sounds like it’s going to be overpowered. Personally, I think there’s something wrong with a single person being able to take on a whole group by themselves, as stated in the blog’s opening.
No, I’ve got no problem with it. It’s fine as it is.
Tanky point holders need to be able to be countered by something. UA is perfect for it.
I personally would rather have more stunbreaks then condi clears.
… the world ends.
LOL!

That makes no sense. There are plenty of skills that continue to track a stealther today. One perfect example is Ranger’s Rapidfire.
EDIT: Didn’t see skowcia’s post, but he has it. To me, this is a way to counter stealthers to begin with. Sword3 should be no different.
what happens when 2 revs pop their now evading sword skill as the same time?
Let’s have a little talk about revenant evades. What do you know about revenant evades? Well…
When revenants evade,
it’s called a revenant evasionAnd when they evade in the mists,
it’s a revenant evasion evade.AND when revenants evade each other with swords in the mists,
they call it a revenant evasion evade, sword swinging misty swish.AND…
When revenants try to evade the evasion of the evade made by the revenant that evaded their evade of a previous evasion…
That’s a revenant evasive evade of a revenant evasion evade for an evading evasive revenant.
AND…
When a developer is in the mists where the revenants evade their evasions, with swords that they swing, from their main hands…
…that’s called ANet HQ.
(with apologies to Dr Seuss)
I think you’ve been reading Fox in Socks too much. I’m about to pull a Mr. Knox on you. O.O
You could always pick up a frog from the Bloodtide Coast. Give your target warts!
screw getting the revenant early, who really cares about that, I want Stronghold early so that i don’t have to choose between pvp and pve with guildies on launch day! (look we can all make selfish requests because we don’t want to make choices!)
I care. I’ve been looking forward to a class like this for quite a while now.
I think you should replace Salvation with something else. Probably Retribution. I think Salvation is best to use with Ventari since the Tablet is all about healing your group. Though I do see the allure of Daze. I thought about taking Salv just for the Daze, but the rest of the traits don’t justify it unless I plan on using Ventari, which I will but only situationally, such as with partnering up with a DPS’er.
Thing is, we already get these sort of traits in the traitlines themselves. If you look, there’s a couple traits that state “something happens when you use this specific Legend stance or Legend’s abilities.”
That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing a trait that adds something to all Legend’s akin to what the OP stated. Maybe as a Grandmaster.
Warriors Overpowered Again
Yep, I went there.
I’d love to see a week head start on Revenant for prepurchasers. It’d give me enough time to finish prep work for when the actual launch date hits, including picking up core wps.
I’m in agreement with Draxynnic for once. I think removing the way Shiro heal works now is a terrible idea. I’d hate to lose the extra damage from the daggers. Although similar to other heals, it is definately much more unique compared to them considering it is adding extra damage to your attacks. I do think it might could use a slight bump to the initial heal or to the dagger’s heal, but not enough to have to reduce the damage to balance. I also think it could use a longer duration, but looks like Roy might already be looking into it.
I completely disagree with doing the OP’s request. Let me also point out that more than likely the ones that have a pile of tomes enough to make a fully leveled 80 Revy will be vets to the game to begin with. They will already know what the basic mechanics of game play are and will know how to adjust their freshly made level 80 Revy to it. To take away tomes would be completely pointless.
Death Blossom is a Thief skill, this is Revenant subforum.
Added a cool Mist-y animation to Revenant dodges.
I corrected you m8
Tried it out and looks awesome. It won’t be out in time for the next beta weekend, but know that it’ll be coming.
That’s great!! Thanks for checking it out and putting it in!

There are many situations where i am nearly next to someone running away from me on guard and i has nothing to catch them.
Hello?!
Phase Traversal (20 energy + 1200 range!!!!!!!!!!) – shadowstep
Forced Engagement (1200 range) – taunt
Axe 4 (900 range) – chill + shadowstep
Sword 5 (600 range) – pull + shadowstep
Jade Winds (600 range) – stun
Unyielding Anguish (600 range) – leapAm I or the others crazy?
I think you are misunderstanding my post. I’m not saying there are no gap closers, I am saying that Sword 2 was designed as one yet its current range fails to give it such effect. It doesn’t matter that Axe 4 is a gap closer, or that Shiro has access to one, I’m talking specifically about this sword skill which was designed as one.
As it is, I don’t think the skill offers enough damage to be worth cancelling your auto-attack rotation, and the chill effect, although nice, doesn’t seem to synergize well with the other tools a Sword Revenant has. Earlier datamines suggested this skill would inflict burn, but I believe Roy changed it to Chill in order to give this gap closer feel. Sadly, its range feels a bit lackluster, and although I understand the idea of using it to prevent someone from escaping, like mentioned above, the range itself leaves little room to cast it as the enemy runs.
Gaaroth nailed. I believe you’re misunderstanding what the skill is supposed to do, which is not be a gap closer but a preventer. You see the target start backing away, hit Sword2.
Yeah, I’m with Demented here. I don’t see the issue. If your target is out of range, there are plenty of options available to catch up to them and enable you to land Sword 2.
I’m betting on one of two things:
1. You earn it through each trait track progression.
2. You start out with it.
I prefer legendary X. Makes him a bit more unique from other classes.
And instead of making more skills to each legend i rather get completely new base legend.
+1. No need for other skills.
I’m not complaining about them not being there, but I would like to know why the decision was made not to have them on the Revenant. I’m guessing something to do with energy.
^ This is why.
Cool idea!
I’ll think about it a bit and maybe try out some things.
Thank you very much Roy and thank you for looking into it. It just makes thematic sense for the Revy to have something similar considering how he/she is in and out of the mist frequently.
I just addressed the problem that swapping legend/utility is not enough to make up for the lack of weaponswap. Then when people started suggesting crazy or limiting solutions (like conjured weapons lol) I said “isn’t it better to just add weaponswap?”
No, you are not. You’re making the same mistake that 50% of this subforum makes. You’re thinking as we have 5 utility skills and we have to avoid spending all our energy, or we are supposed to camp one legend. Same reason why people ask for energy regen skills (when we already have a huge one).
Nothing bad happens if you consume all your energy, just legendswap. Bad management is when you consume all of it before swap cd is ready or if you end up being unable to use a skill you wanted to use. And actually a worse management is not swapping legend at all.
We even have Facet of Nature regardless of legend so we can boon support after swap. You could activate all your facets and keep them active for more then 10 seconds, then legendswap being able to use 5 new skills with no cd and 50 energy to use, then activate Nature 2nd effect and give even more boons for free. Your other legend can be Mallyx to heal conditions on allies, Jalis to support with stability or Dwarf Rite (50% damage reduction, stacking with Protection for 80% reduction), Ventari to heal and support even more, or Shiro to do more damage and CC.
That’s just an example and a BAD way to use Glint, but it should be enough to prove that you’re not limited in any way.
You need damage? Activate Might and Fury facets, maybe also Nature. You need to survive? Activate Regen and Protection facets. At -1 pip it takes 100 seconds to run out of energy. That is a huge amount of time.
And of course, you’re free to spam weaponskills as any other class. If your energy is over just legendswap. If you have almost 0 energy and you still want to use Glint for healing, then deactivate a facet and doubletap the healing one, it only requires 1 energy lol.And if you only use the upkeep passive effect, then you legendswap, you don’t eve have CD on the facet when you swap back.
People say “we need energy regen skills” basically because they want to camp 1 single legend instead of managing 10 skills, but that’s the whole point of being a Revenant. Legendswap IS the class mechanic. I’ll kick from my group any Revenant that doesn’t legendswap at least 2 times every minute, lol.
If you don’t legendswap, then your energy and skill throughput is objectively way lower then how it should be.
I think you have a bit of a distorted view on how Legends work, and Legendswap as a mechanic, but honestly I don’t feel like arguing with you on this. Ultimately, we’ll just end up agreeing to disagree.
So….. I disagree with you.
