You’re wasting your time unless you’re just interested in a theoretical game design discussion (which is fine). The devs have shown zero interest in improving the mechanics of this fractal.
Delete them. But you’ll regret it when they start with infusion slot stat grind. Only Ascended gear has infusion slots and you’ll be left behind in the stat grind treadmill.
This is just yet another ploy to squeeze out a few more weeks/months of lots of words but no action.
If winners get more tickets and you’re on a server that has 0% chance to win due to population/coverage, then the only way to get more tickets is to pay gems to transfer.
Pay-to-Win FTL.
Everyone seems to be glossing over the fact they said that your Server reward alignment is based on your WvW participation history? If you transfer to Blackgate now, you will have to work your kitten off doing WvW objectives to be considered a Blackgater when it comes to rewards.
also the most expensive rewards should be server specific, like a Blackgate finisher. Getting that if you dont truelly believe in blackgate is a waste of time.
No. They mean participation history during the tournament. So if you transfer on the last day of the tournament, you won’t get much rewards. If they do it the way you say, players new to WvW won’t be getting any rewards just because they’re new.
So again, if you need to transfer to get the full rewards, then it’s Pay-to-Win; especially considering the fact that winning or losing is independent of your actions and only depends on coverage.
Awful.
- The storytelling is grade school-level at its best.
- Technically, the updates are enormously bug-ridden; and they don’t bother to fix the bugs because the content is temporary anyway.

solo dungeons.
You should be able to because why not? …But considering its quality, who’d want to?
Good luck getting gold when you’re banned guys
I doubt Anet’s going to do anything.
Any tips for a first time player of Guild Wars?
- Learn to dodge.
- Do your dailies every day. And hoard your laurels — they are a time-gated currency that are very hard to replace.
- Hoard your karma. Should you decide to get a Legendary weapon, you’ll need about one million karma.
- If an item is labeled “unique,” it means you are not allowed to wield two copies of it simultaneously on the same toon.
- If you build siege and become stuck when it completes, swap weapons or type /sit in the chat box to free yourself.
- For dungeons: do not pug in a party with more than 2 players from the same guild (if you don’t know them).
- If you must do the above, be the first person to enter the dungeon.
- If a player in your party has to leave, be aware that if you use the LFG tool to get a replacement member that your progress may be reset if someone merges your party by accident.
- Slayer potions (you do +X% more damage to YYY mobs and receive -Z% less damage from them) actually give you +Z% more damage.
You solo SE regularly Kuru? Christ, I couldn’t imagine it. I had such an awful time trying to pull the 3 golems individually and LOSing Tezza near the top of the stairs, haha. Definitely a tough boss to solo. Might do it again someday to see if I can do it faster and with all DPS utils.
I actually find it fun trying to tweak builds and skills (necro). Plus, the fact that only one boss is legendary helps A LOT — having to fight two legendaries in one path is just too tedious.
You’re right in that the least fun part is pulling the golems or Tazza, but once you’ve done it a few times, you know exactly where to place yourself for the pulls — and you can focus on the fights. I think SEp1 is much more fun solo than even with 2 people, where you can ignore almost all mechanics and still faceroll it.
By the way, a fun exercise is to fight all three golems at once with a guardian (I’ll bet mesmer works too)!
And if you do do SEp1 again, don’t forget to post it!
It pays for all the free content that we get!
It’s not free content. We paid for it already upfront. The analogy of a buffet has been used in a previous thread.
In any case, dungeons for gold and fractals below your level for karma.
There is a corresponding skill Epidemic that works like a disease and is wicked powerful in the right circumstances.
In GW1, we had both Disease and Epidemic.
Anet’s MO is to retcon the bug into a feature and say it was always intended to be that way. Let’s see whether this will happen here.
4 months to change a “-” for a “+”
Four months so far, who knows when it’ll actually be fixed.
(edited by Lord Kuru.3685)
Anet loves Skyhammer. Look at the EoTM map, it’s basically the same idea.
Or people in the middle of the dungeon and someone quit.
That’s a lot of people.
Disease was a great condition: very flavorful and fun to play with. I think it would have been a much better condition than torment.
For Tazza, you can circle, but the instant you step/evade into or past her model by accident, she resets. In any case, you can’t avoid any of her attacks by moving so you may as well just stand right in front of her.
So just like, face-tank her without dodging? ^^
Would pulling her in a corner to dodge into, and lots of healing power with healing siggy (and other defensive utilities) be enough to stay alive?
Sorry, what I meant was that being in motion doesn’t help you in the fight because her main attacks can’t be avoided via motion (unlike Sureshot Seamus, for example): her greatsword #1 is an instant attack and greatsword #2 is guiding. Maybe you can avoid greatsword #5 by constantly circling her since she pauses for a very quick moment before initiating the attack, but I’ve found that being in motion near Tazza in the big room always risks accidentally moving into/past her and thus resetting her. Nothing is worse than a reset!!
If you’re not in the big room, putting her into the corner and dodging into her is optimal, but I hate the camera behavior when fighting in her room.
I aways dodge her greatsword #2 (mirror blade) as the clone is annoying and getting hit often means Tazza gets tons of might.
As for her greatsword #1, you can try putting weakness on her for these attacks — they’re each composed of 4 mini-attacks so even though weakness has an RNG component, you’ll likely get mitigation. I think with good application of weakness, you might be able to absorb all three of her attacks (she uses this three times per attack cycle — usually). I think at worst, you need to dodge one of them.
You should be able to do this in full zerkers.
I solo this on my necro semi-regularly: I tank one attack with Death Shroud and generally eat the other two in melee (the closer you are the less damage GS #1 does).
There is an official post (I’m sure someone can dig it up) where it is explicitly stated that it’s ok.
I don’t think Anet really likes it though and there’s pretty much no chance of an official interface for doing it.
As for support ticket, you can try it, but I doubt anything will come of it.
Just curious, what dungeons you looking to buy?
Lord Kuru- Ah, that’s why she reset then. I was constantly running around her in circles and dodge rolling in a wide radius.
I’ll give Seamus a try and see if I can handle him. If not, at least he’s right in the beginning of the dungeon.
I’ve thought about AC P3 since I’ve already done Spider Queen and I know I can solo Rumblus, but how am I supposed to handle the essence collectors? I can’t imagine being able to take the burrows down quickly enough before they get out of control.
Purple Miku- Nice video, I like the technique. Watching this video also shows just how substantial the difference between a full Zerker build and a full Sentinel build really is. Overall your damage output is at least 500% more than mine, even after factoring in the fact that I can hit her more frequently because I heal through most of her attacks. My sword hits for a measly 200 damage per hit (plus bleeds, woohoo). The only saving grace is that it allows me to make mistakes (something I do frequently because I’m not really familiar with how bosses work differently when you’re the only available target). However, I can understand fully why people only ask for full zerker parties with speed runs in dungeons.
How necessary is Ascended gear for solo runs? My main warrior that attempted these runs is in full ascended weapons, trinkets, and armor, but when I get better (if I continue with this long enough) I have an Exotic geared zerker warrior that I use for party speed runs. If exotics is sufficient, I’ll probably eventually give her a try- but I don’t ever plan on getting a set of Ascendeds for her.
For Tazza, you can circle, but the instant you step/evade into or past her model by accident, she resets. In any case, you can’t avoid any of her attacks by moving so you may as well just stand right in front of her.
For the essence collectors, you can actually kite the whole time without killing anything. Run around the burrows as they spawn to draw aggro — if any gravelings attack the collectors, hit them a few times and you’ll take their aggro. Never stop moving and you should be ok.
As for gear, I’d say start with what you’re comfortable with — it seems your current gear gives you lots of margin for error so that’ll help you learn the encounters and boss tells without too much frustration. As you get more comfortable with the encounters, swap in more and more zerker gear. Exotics are fine, but Ascended will make the tedious encounters faster (especially weapons and trinkets).
Purple Miku- I hate Sure Shot Seamus even with a full party- i can’t imagine doing him alone X_x. I’ve been thinking about Arah, but I watched a video and saw just how much is required to solo some of the bosses, especially Lupicus, so I don’t think I’m ready for that yet.
If you do try AC p2, keep in mind that it’s buggy and you might not be able to complete it Dessa freezes, and you do need a party for the final boss.Lord Kuru- I had been thinking about that path, and I just completed it!
Here’s how my Sorrow’s Embrace Path 1 solo went:
Gates/Golem: Breaking the gates was pretty easy. I kitten ed a couple of times and died, but other than that it went smoothly. The champ golem was a pain in the kitten with all the pulls and knockdowns though! That took forever. During that fight, when he was at about 30% health the server crashed, and I had to run back in. Luckily he only regened about 25% health before I aggroed him again.
Nokk: This fight was the biggest pain in the kitten ever. Getting stunned for 10 seconds every single time you miss the dodge is painfully slow, and the only thing I could figure out to do was range him from by the door. His health took forever to drain down, the fight took at least 20 minutes because I couldn’t get the hang of dodging the gravity bind. Eventually I did dodge it repeatedly and won the fight. Only one death, happened right away when I accidentally dodge rolled into the lava.
Three Golems: I was worried by this fight initially, but it turned out to be okay once I successfully pulled them individually. I died once on a bad pull, but then I fought the shield golem first, then the fire golem, then the poison one. I only died once on the poison golem, then I figured out how to dodge the attacks. I used a lot of vigor from my warhorn #5 plus the conversion of poison into more vigor. Went very smoothly.
Tazza: This is where things got hairy, but not from a difficulty standpoint. After four attempts I managed to pull her into the big room. God kitten does she have a lot of HP. I was whittling it down, after about 7-8 minutes I had her at 75%. Then I apparently moved her a little too far away because she decided to reset. Then I couldn’t get her out of the small room no matter what I did, she kept resetting. So i fought her in the room with the Troop Commander, and got them both to about 75% when I messed up and died. At this point I asked the friends/guild members I invited for the free rewards to help me finish her off and 2 helped me (a third died pretty quickly) so we trio-ed her down. I’m satisfied by this and consider this second solo a great success!
Nice!
Once you’ve got Nokk’s tells down, you can burn him down relatively quick in melee (stand where his vapor blade falls off the edge so there’s no return hit).
To get Tazza where you want her:
- it’s easiest with a ranged weapon. fight her at range and stand where you want her to be.
- when she teleports, it will be your position.
To get her into the big room:
- first aggro her and get her to the top of the steps where she has line of sight into the big room (using the above method).
- do the above method again to get her down the stairs and into the big room.
- at this point you can melee her.
The key is to always have line of sight with her otherwise she may reset. Never dodge, evade, or walk through (or behind) her in the big room — that counts as losing line of sight, she will reset.
OR: you can fight her in the corner of her room: if you’re facing the room from the big room, this would be the far right corner. The camera can be awful because of the small space, but she never resets there. Just don’t let her greatsword 5 knock you into Kaeyi’s aggro range.
As for Sureshot Seamus: circle him the whole time in melee and he’ll never even hit you.
And for AC: perhaps try path 3.
The only thing Anet listens to is their metrics — and more than half the time, the interpret those metrics incorrectly.
In any case, the only way to get action is to quit every time you get the dredge fractal. It’ll leave a tangible mark in their metrics if enough people do this — and it’s the only way to get them to act.
- Farm as much gold per day as you can stomach.
- Buy off the TP.
Or:
- play the TP as much per day as you can stomach.
- Buy off the TP.
The second method is a lot faster if you know what you’re doing.
If you don’t want to buy it outright, at the very least
- Do either number 1s from above.
- Buy the precursor off the TP.
Unless you enjoy gambling, do not play the mystic forge for the precursor. Yes, you may get it on the first try, but the usual result is weeping plus angry forum posts.
Try SEp1.. it’s easier to solo.
If only weapons that you can use are ever dropped then I’d imagine a lot of necros would have serious trouble getting daggers.
The amount of new stuff people keep asking for and demanding is mind boggling considering the fact all you did was pay 60 bucks and got basically all the content for free. yet ppl still want MORE AND MORE.
Have spent over 1k hours in this game without spending one extra dollar in gem store…most games for 60 bucks you’ll be lucky to get 100 hours out of.
Stop bugging anet.. they have gone beyond the call of duty to supply us with a playable MMO…let them add content at w/e pace they want, it’s their game. You literally don’t have to pay them anything for this stuff…
Kids these days
You’re silly, if you pay for an all you can eat meal and yet they’ve not brought out most of the stuff they advertised than people will complain. It would be laughable to think that these people should have to pay more for something that they purchased already. Anet isn’t hurting for money off the game, people buy gems and stuff all the time. Look how much deco armor, perm mining stuff and other stuff they sold this year.
You are delusional if you think anet has not been bringing out new entree’s every so often for your meal analogy…Eat or get off the table, there’s plenty of other restuarants… anet already got the money from you… doubt they care THAT much that some people hate their “new dishes”
They should. The buffet can let you down after you’ve paid, but you’d better believe word will get out and that’ll affect business.
As for Anet bringing out entrees: they’re severely undercooked and more like appetizers.
Perhaps there should be a sticky of things we want to see so that every time a new community coordinator comes it, he/she has to look no further than the first page.
Though honestly, considering how well our previous CDIs turned out, is anyone even going to bother to participate?
Torment is fine and does a healthy amount of damage. The only thing that’s needed is for certain cleansing skills to be updated to include a torment cleanse. Many of the cleanse skills are outdated/under-powered because they were “balanced” around having less conditions in the game.
The condition is supposed to force you to make a choice: move and take more damage, or stand still and take less. But if one choice is clearly better than the other and everyone always chooses the same way, then the mechanic is perhaps not well designed.
I do agree with the cleansing issue and balance. I’ll be Anet didn’t consider it when deciding to add a new condition.
What if two people put torment on you and they run in opposite directions? You can only stay close to one of them. You’re kind of being drawn and quartered, in a way.
Exactly =) though, the application spots would be close together if indeed you were trying to minimize the damage. The damage would increase at range intervals 0-500 lowest, 500-1000 medium, 1000+ highest or something along those lines. I think that would be a cool condition, punishes you for escaping a fight, would really be a pain for thieves and warriors =p a necro’s paradise.
the application spot is where you were at the time of application, no the one applying torment.
oh you’re right… reading comprehension fail on my part (I guess I was picturing DS #5). And this way is better for computing resources as the point of application doesn’t change locations.
if anything pvp needs more game modes, new maps and better rewards….i still think pvp is way more balanced than wvw atm
It’s better be, the devs balance with primarily sPvP in mind plus a bit of PvE.
Pretty much agree, no one seems to not move with torment, death sentence if you do.
What if torment did more damage to you the further away from the application spot you moved? That would give the chance to avoid other attacks but still have a more sensible means of punishment. Have it appear as a chain to the spot from the character, necros give a green chain, thieves a black chain, mesmers a pink chain, etc.
just a thought.
What if two people put torment on you and they run in opposite directions? You can only stay close to one of them. You’re kind of being drawn and quartered, in a way.
What I don’t like is that it doesnt proc for moving damage when, say, a warrior speeds away with a mobility skill (let it do 4x damage on mobility skills
)
Isnt torment particularly nasty for thieves?
I’m guessing that’s because mobility skills usually have very short duration and so you’re not moving at the instant the torment damage calculation is made.
The amount of new stuff people keep asking for and demanding is mind boggling considering the fact all you did was pay 60 bucks and got basically all the content for free. yet ppl still want MORE AND MORE.

The usual ridiculous argument of “you paid 60 bucks for the game and everything else is stuff they’re giving us out of the kindness of their hearts, and now you complain.”
No. The 60 dollars we paid was for the game plus future updates/improvements. That’s how the game was advertised and that’s precisely the reason so many people bought the game, giving it an amazing launch.
You cannot stack torment in a fast way. Six stacks are already very high. As long as you can’t reach 15-20 stacks in a reliable way torment will remain quite harmless.
lol harmless… good joke
take a guess what build it wasWhen this happened, did you move less when you saw you had torment on you?
gl standing still while warrior is spamming his attacks on you lol
can’t cleanse that torment too because skillful impale
That’s why I think the mechanics have failed — if practically everyone reacts the same way to the choice of “move or not move,” then that mechanic may as well not exist.
More of that complaining about PvE that WvWers never do!
Can you cite where a WvW player said that no one in the WvW community ever complains about PvE? I’m not sure why you’re so negative on this thread, when in the end WvW people are just asking for the exact same thing PvE people are.
WvW people complain for a year about how getting a legendary is IMPOSSIBLE to do with only WvW and having to do lots of PvE to get it, and we get nothing to help us. PvE people complain for 1 week about having actually do a TINY bit of ACTUAL WvW (not just running around waiting for completion asking people to take stuff for them), and it gets temporarily removed to “re-evaluate”.
If PvE’ers can get great shinies without having to really do WvW, can WvW people FINALLY get some real shinies that they can get only doing WvW? I mean, give a rest on the “new” masteries. Give us some WvW shinies (note: those “new” skins they gave us earlier this year weren’t even new…weren’t great…not really worth it for level 80 WvW players). Maybe if anet actually listened to their WvW people, instead of constantly pandering to the PvE masses, they’d get more money from us
(heck, Im sure that quaggan finisher got them quite a bit!)
Maybe if WvWers didn’t circle around every possibility of PvEers being forced into world v world like sharks around a pile of chum, they might be more willing to do it. As it is, you guys look at PvEers as a cheap source of bags, and grief the hell out of them for the giggles. Why would they want to be forced into it, simply so they can be tormented?
Just saying, as someone who doesn’t wear full zerker gear, or do speed run stuff, I’ve been kicked from fractal and PvE dungeon groups plenty of times with people calling me a noob because I didn’t know the short cuts for speed runs, or went in as a condi mesmer instead of buying zerker gear. It goes both ways. The only difference is when WvW people “grief” (mostly just kill or camp a JP in a PvP area) the forums become ablaze with how horrible we WvW people are
Oh, I totally see your point. I see TONS of people in the dungeon forums saying “I can’t wait to kick some WvWer for not having zerker gear from my dungeon party. Gonna be so much fun! And then, and then, I’m going to call him a noob! BURN!” Meanwhile, I read a post on the forums about a WvWer that knocked a pveer off the last part for obisidian sanctum, jumped down, and started eating zaftaffy simply so they could vomit on the corpse. There’s a bit of a difference here, isn’t there?
It’s because PvEers consistently and constantly whine about the WvW requirements whenever they are actually required to set foot in WvW (before badges were given out in achieve chests and after this rank 30 change, EB JP during the LS, EoTM).
That whining is the direct cause of the negative reaction in the WvW community.
On the other hand, you never hear WvW players whining about PvE requirements for the Legendaries — they only even mention it as counters to PvE whining about WvW.
(btw, vomiting on corpses sounds awesome — I gotta try it!)
I’m sure you’ll say that’s just one person, and that he qualified in in the second part, but there you are. Done and done.
Not even close to done as even you noticed the qualification. Nice try though.
You cannot stack torment in a fast way. Six stacks are already very high. As long as you can’t reach 15-20 stacks in a reliable way torment will remain quite harmless.
lol harmless… good joke
take a guess what build it was
When this happened, did you move less when you saw you had torment on you?
Why do that when they can spend that time to add one more wave of dredge in the dredge fractal? Opportunity costs FTW (or L?)
Not 100% sure how it works, but I believe it goes down to 2 tokens as a minimum.
I don’t think anyone runs dungeons more than once a day anymore except to sell them.
So the mechanics of the torment condition is that it deals more damage to moving opponents.
But do people really stop moving because they have torment on them? In my observations, no.
People cleanse, people just take the damage, but I’ve practically never seen someone stop moving just because they have torment on them — especially since it’s pretty much a death sentence to stop moving in combat.
Theoretically, having choosing to more or not move may make an interesting mechanic, but since everyone responds the same way to it, torment may as well just be an ordinary damage dealing condition.
Perhaps other people have a different experience with torment?
the intent of this thread is to only make this issue well known and hopefully we can have a fix in the near future.
Then your job is already done because they certainly know about these issues and have known about them since the LFG tool was released.
The meter is still somewhat arbitrary because the time measure used to define it is arbitrary, one second is officially:
“the duration of 9192631770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the cesium 133 atom.”
Why? to make it so that there are more or less 60*60*24 seconds in a day.
I don’t like the lack of an update. It’s not hard to change something increasing damage to decreasing. I am familiar with mathematics.
You would think. But those minus signs sure can be tricky.
So that’s what’s causing the reset!!!
Mapping from one WvW map to a WP on another map dumps you at spawn instead of the target WP.
Charr. With the enormous amount of armor issues (clipping, for example), they aren’t currently playable.
Unless you want to craft specifically to level up, don’t bother until you get to level 80.
But at 80, you’ll want/need to craft for the Ascended gear:
Ascended weapons can be significantly more powerful than exotic if you use certain stat combos that synergize well with each other.
Ascended armor — not so much. However….
Only Ascended gear has infusion slots. They were presumably created just for fractals, but you can also put stats into them — currently the maximum an infusion can give is +5 stats. But Anet loves its grind and you can almost bet that once they feel the need to add more grind, they’ll introduce a higher max. Eventually, the max will be high enough that they will be significant.
Anet likes it the way it is because they can slowly release new stat combos over a great period of time — giving the illusion that they’re improving the game.
IMO tying stats to gear and trait lines was a huge mistake.
If you increase toughness so that a zerker party takes an hour to finish a dungeon, how long do you think it’ll take a non-zerker party? Is this a not-so-subtle attempt to push people towards condition damage builds? That’s not going to work because of the 25 stack limit.
Plus, at this point, due to Ascended gear, people are loathe to change gear — no one wants to go through the grind a second time. This is probably one of the biggest roadblock to encouraging people to play diverse builds.
I can see punishment now being a huge disaster.
“Hey noob, can you help us protect our tower. We need you to build siege here.”
Noob just trying to help out. GM comes. . . .Then there would be all the judgment calls. Yikes.
I would just prefer they allow you to dismantle siege weapons for a percentage of supply back. Would be interesting if both sides could dismantle.
It’s easy to tell griefers from noobs. There should be no issue here unless we’re talking about GMs on power trips (which is a legit problem).
As for dismantling siege — terrible idea. The griefer is going to follow you around and dismantle your siege right after you’re built it. The basically do then now when they stand right next to golems when they’re being built, enter them immediately when you finish, and then jump them off a cliff. Or, they’ll let you think everything’s ok but dismantle your siege right before their native server attacks your tower.
)
(heck, Im sure that quaggan finisher got them quite a bit!)
