Even ignoring the pay-to-win issue, this discourages players from buying because we now have confirmation of power creep so surely the next item will do even more.

I believe temporarily binding mouse wheel to click works. Also, for actions that require confirmation, drag your window so that the buy/sell (etc.) box and the confirmation box lie in the same position.

Levels - why do we have them?

The scaling down of levels in low level zones has been a complete farce, essentially dooming those zones to being empty of players.

Had there been a very low level cap (just enough to introduce players to the game), we’d have more top level zones and thus more gameplay variety.

awesome! I won’t be able to stand to play in EotM very much because falling off the map is so kitten fun that I’ll be doing it on purpose all the time but I love the idea of having more choices about what game mode you want to hit at any given time.

I don’t understand the PvE hate with EotM tho. If this means less PvE on the regular WvW maps and less queues when they introduce the next big AP thing that can be earned with WuvWuv (be it Season 2 or whatever) then how can this be bad thing? If you don’t care for some PvE in your PvP then don’t go to EotM, simple as that and be happy that you wont be seeing queues on the maps you do enjoy.

I think there will be period of population re-balancing again with the introduction of EotM as players figure out what they find most fun and hardcore WvWers return to the regular maps. This will also give ANET the chance to offer some WvW incentives without causing massive queues to kitten off the regular players and a place to put WvW oriented PvE that wont get in the way of people looking to avoid that sort of thing.

Sounds like a win win to me.

It’s a bad thing because of the opportunity cost. All that dev time spent on EoTM could have been spent on WvW improvements that are far more important and urgent and a big sPvP-looking map.

What a lot of people do not understand is that no one is happy with balance. In PvP, there are OP classes and specs. In WvW, there are OP classes and specs. Usually these are different.

That’s not the point. The point is that Anet balances solely for sPvP and PvE. WvW is not in the equation.

The Living Story was a good idea but the implementation has been rushed and lazy.

And it’s getting worse and worse. For next week, they’re simply taking a WvW map that’s been in development, dumping Scarlet in there, and pasting a big Living Story label on it.

That’s why people hate it so much.

Lord Kuru.3685

Anet is on a two week Living Story schedule. Here is the easiest way to create content:

  • Take what’s already being developed (EoTM).
  • Dump some Scarlet into it.
  • Make up some Achievements.
  • Call it a Living Story chapter.

This is not about introducing PvE players to WvW. It’s about “creating” content in the quickest, easiest way possible. Whether this is good or bad for WvW probably didn’t even enter Anet’s minds.

Would be nice to know what suggestions people made in the last CDI actually got paid attention to and are being looked at for implementation.

Chris himself actually specifically promised me directly in a forum post that we would get such a summary for the WvW Population Imbalance CDI from ANet’s point of view. It never happened. I keep trying to remind him of his promise every once in a while and we still get nothing.

After many, many pages of discussion and lots of very good ideas in the WvW Commander CDI all we got a couple of lines of dev summary that basically said that implementing different colored tags might be something to consider in the future.

If we can’t even get a reasonable summary of the key takeaways from these CDI’s I don’t think we should expect to ever see something concrete emerge from them. Lots of players, me included, were delusional enough to think that ANet was finally serious about responding to their player base, but these CDI’s are looking more and more like just a cynical attempt at defer/defect PR to calm the unrest in the forums.

A rat hole is a rat hole no matter what you call it.

Didn’t you read Josh Davis’ post in the WvW forum? They’re essentially starting over (again) with “Give me lists of your concerns.” There’s no intention of doing anything. We’re just getting stonewalled.

Low DPS (from condition build in PvE) leads to longer fights, which leads to players having to face the mechanics of the fights more than otherwise, which causes more chance for failure.

I think what the OP was getting at is that a high DPS Condi build made him realize the advantages of Condi Necro in a situation like the platforms. As in when power builds DPS drops significantly due to kiting, getting downed, dodging etc., condi ticks keep on ticking until their duration is up. In his case it saved his team from champ wipe.

Although condi has no spike power, it can easily hit 4-5K condi ticks per second indefinitely. This can be very useful in pressure heavy fights like Marionette Platforms where a majority of time many players are kiting rather than focusing on damage, auto attacking most of the time. Also many on Marionette are not taking Zerker, but are using Knights/Solders gear too which is comparable to Condi Rabid gear damage and thoughness.

That said I wouldn’t use a Condi Necro on Chain 2 which is very spike dependent, while I think they would be great for Chains 4 and especially 5 (AoE condis ticking for 4-5K would keep adds always under control on Chain 5). Plus Signet of Spite allows us to stack a minute long bleeds, which can be a 4 stacks of bleed insurance policy on plaforms.

I’m saying he possibly caused his team to go down in the first place because he wasn’t contributing enough damage and thus making the fight longer than everyone else could handle. 4-5K per tick is not much compared to zerker damage. Moreover, the way conditions are spammed by some weapons (warrior sword, for example), it’s likely many of his stacks were negated by the 25 stack limit.

In the end, this is Anet’s game design fail.

Except they are commonplace. And they are meaningless, being simply pretty objects to display. This is the issue with how anet have implemented the legendary system. It should be a trophy reflective of skill, of overcoming a hard challenge, but it aint. As it stands the liadri mini is a far better trophy than a legendary.

I would have to disagree that obtaining a legendary isn’t a challenge, as well as the notion that they are commonplace. There are certainly more than there used to be, but also keep in mind that many with legendaries like to strut around in main cities around each other, inadvertently giving the impression that everyone and their dogs has crafted a legendary in their sleep because “I can see 5 right there.”

Walking around max-level areas and taking samples of players with legendaries as a percentage of total players encountered, and you’ll find that the ratio is much lower than the concentrated show-offs in Lion’s Arch might have you believe.

I think what he means is that Legendaries can be bought and sold on the TP, so having one is not as prestigious as it ought to be.

Does anyone eat 25 pieces of food in normal play?

I’m not sure you can say what I do is normal, but…

When this comes up, I usually grab one of my charr and go to the fish vendor in Queensdale (right outside of DR). Crayfish, 16c each, and I can easily see a charr downing 25 of them in one go. I do this because it amuses me to do so, I rather like the mental image it gives me.

It’s not normal play if you only do it when you see that daily is on the list.

Then I guess it’s not normal.

Except for when I’ve run around buying carnival junk food for a character, just so they can eat until they’re ready to hurl.

It would be fantastic.
I would buy it for sure and then I would buy the permanent gathering tools and the salvage-o-matic if that bag existed.

They’d lose some money from people buying multiple copies of items (salvage-o-matic, for example) for alts. Would people buying this bag make up for that? Only Anet knows.

I think the money they would gain from the item itself and the other permanent items people would buy because of that bag would be higher than the gold from the “rich alt freaks”

Yeah… I think that’s very likely as well. Also, since this is a shared bag, you’d effectively be losing one bag slot for each alt that uses it — that probably induces you to buy more bag slots for those alts. Again, win for Anet.

In any case, this is probably one of the best QoL suggestions I’ve seen. Moving items between characters right now is hugely annoying.

It isn’t the only one. I don’t go around killing ambient creatures when exploring, but that one is on there too. Same with the laurel vendor achievement, can’t see that being a daily habit. How many Costume Brawl’s do typical PvEers get into daily (though admittedly this does stretch a bit as you mentioned “if you play that aspect of the game”)?

Actually, I think 30 ambients is a bit high as well. But I’ve noticed killing 15 sometimes without trying, at least when PvEing.

Laurel vendor: At least a lot of people visit the laurel vendor each day.
Costume Brawl: same. There are, each day, a lot of people who costume brawl.

But is there any playstyle where people even get close to eating 25 pieces of food a day?

On another note, it’d be hilarious (in an evil sort of way) to see a daily where you have to kill less than, say, 10 ambients that day.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Are you saying that if I were able to add to the stack inside guild bank it would somehow be manipulated into creating extra items? I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just asking for clarification.

He’s saying you have to be a bit careful programming something where two users might modify a single piece of data “simultaneously.” If precautions are not taken you can have items disappear, duping, etc.

But this is a very standard and well-known programming issue that IMO should not be a barrier to doing what is proposed in the OP.

Generally, each individual daily is reasonably doable if you’re playing that aspect of the game: If you’re exploring the Shiverpeaks, then getting 40 kills there isn’t unreasonable. If you’re playing WvW, getting 10 invader kills comes pretty naturally.

But daily feast seems to be a huge exception. Is eating 25 pieces of food something that anyone gets close to during normal play?

Edit: Yes. It’s easy to go to the TP and buy 25 pieces of food. That’s not the point. The point is that this one daily seems to go against the spirit of a daily as something you achieve via normal play.

Let's look at mechanics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lord Kuru.3685

Then people would farm 1350 tokens for a set and never come back to dungeons or
come to it less often.. since most people use exotic things yet.

Having less people doing dungeons every day, the amount of ectos available on the trading post would be less, also less exotic insignias and inscriptions available (making it harder for those that wanna level up jobs).

Less ectos on TP would make them more expensive, meaning you would have to pay a lot more for something that requires ectos, such as crafted armors/weapons, or legendaries that uses a lot of them..

This would have a huge impact really if things were account bound. Not to mention you’d be bored soon because you’d run out of goals in game faster..

People don’t run dungeons primarily to gear up their alts anyway. They run dungeons for the gold, loot, and tokens to convert to weapons to either convert to ectos or mystic toilet.

And even if they did and people stopped running dungeons and the price of ecto went up, there’d be some point where the price is high enough where people would run dungeons again in order to get tokens to make ectos to sell.

Dragging out a game so that the player doesn’t run out of goals is a huge cop out for devs. What about making fun content that players want to play multiple times?

Why is it that people feel they have to sit around. Go do a few events, gather some stuff, kill a few things….you know that is playing the game

^^ Exactly.

Personally, I try to make as few assumptions as possible as to how others should be managing their lives.

I do that too…until someone comes on a public forum and complains about how things are so tough, because they can’t have things the way they want it at the exact moment they want it.

At that point, I make suggestions, get this, to be helpful. There are things you can do. If you insist on saying you can do nothing, that’s okay too, but if you’re going to come to a public place to vent about it, people will suggest things.

This isn’t about not being able to do what you want in the game. It’s about people who have no patience, or maybe no time. Either way, MMOs all require time and patience. It’s where and when you have to wait that’s different between them.

No matter what endeavor you have, if you have a lot of people all having to get together to do something, there’ll be a waiting period. The mov ie starts at 8 so if you get there at 7, you get a good seat. If you get there late, it could be sold out. That’s sorta like life.

In other games I’ve waited for healers, waiting for party members, waiting to log into the game altogether because of a queue. Here’s a person complaining about having to wait to do a single new event that everyone wants to do.

Having it instanced might well solve HIS problem but it might also create a problem for half the player base. In which case that’s putting one person’s needs in front of another.

This game wasn’t advertising in instances. They advertised it on the open world and they’re trying to keep it in the open world. Some people would be happy with instances and not one of those people would then come out and say Anet lied to us if it happened.

Seems like a double standard to me.

The game is instanced. It doesn’t matter if it is advertised as such or not. The issue becomes is it well instanced or not. A well instanced zone is one where you don’t know you are in an instanced zone. Therein lies the issue that is discussed over and over on the forums.

The game isn’t instanced. The game is open world….it’s simply not seamless. Every game as a cap for how many people can play and if it exceeds that cap you have to wait. Technically that would still be an instance. The only difference is, Guild Wars 2 gives you an option to not wait.

Regardless of whether you call it seamless or not, the OP is essentially complaining he wants to do what he wants WHEN he wants. I’ve yet to find any MMO where that’s possible. Not in WoW, Rift, Lotro, DDO, Guild Wars 2. It may very well be that that’s inconvenient but it’s still a fact.

Sometimes you can do what you want, when you want and sometimes you can’t.

Haha, every single zone is instanced, obviously. You don’t know what happens when you enter a zone do you? Do you have an inkling as to what is going on in terms of the underlying software? Nothing has to do with what you want or don’t want. It’s simply what is and what isn’t. What isn’t is instanced zones that work.

Having nothing at all to do with the OP’s problem of not being able to do what he wants when he wants. It’s another conversation. If you want to talk about instances or not start another thread.

So bottom line you don’t know how this game works or any game works. Is this what you are attempting to say?

You’ll never get him to admit there’s anything ever wrong with GW2.

Theories about WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Lord Kuru.3685

Lord Kuru.3685

As you state:

WvW makes the Least money out of the big 3, (pve, spvp, wvw) or at the very least, Pve, no gemstore items for WvW have appeard and many (costumes, toys) do not work in wvw at all, anet being a business places with priority and resources into that which makes them the money.

I believe this to be the answer.

That would only be an answer if the gem store was full of WvW targeted items that no one was buying. The fact that the gem store is empty of those types of things makes it just another symptom of neglect, not a cause for neglect.

I am not sure it is even true either. A lot of the folks I game with buy every finisher, skins, etc and because WvW makes so much less gold than you do playing PvE they are often using RL money with the gem store, not gold.

This. Look how long it took before Anet even thought to create finishers for the gemstore.

Anet just doesn’t like the game mode much — witness the dev griefing GvG incident.. I personally think that wasn’t just one rogue dev, but rather was a reflection of how Anet talks about WvW in the office every day.

The funny thing is that WvW is the preferred PvP mode of GW2. It really fits the “play how you want” mantra of GW2 very well. Anet really needs to admit they failed with sPvP and shift their attention towards WvW. (Of course PvE will always be top priority.)
